LD42 — Running out of space

Words Dancer by Ango 2018-08-15T03:08:23Z

Really cool concept and I enjoyed playing it! The mechanics of the game is quite unique and I like the time moving only when you move system, it gives players another way to strategise :)

Flesh Packer by nervous-composers 2018-08-15T05:21:09Z

A great entry with amazing humour, love the texts and clues that unfold as the game progresses! Music was spot on too!

Save the Tomatoes! by fractalsunrise 2018-08-25T10:34:48Z

This was super fun and my friend and I loved it! The graphics are adorable and music is enjoyable as well - and the levels were all so unique! One of my favourites this LD :) Capture.PNG

Polar Panic! At the Disco by PeachTreeOath 2018-08-21T04:51:24Z

A really nice game - loved the graphics and audio! I think the concept of controlling with the water is unique, although I took a few runs to realise that we can combine ice sheets! Reached Disco Inferno after a few runs. Perhaps more specific physics could be added to the game, such as moving slowly when clicking and moving quicker when it's a click and drag on the water - so that we can control our ice sheets better :)

Heirs Kingdom by Valter 2018-08-29T17:54:43Z

This was hilarious and fun, really enjoyed it! Loved the interactions between the characters - made me think about how to build the kingdom better the next round! Sound effects were great. The king and queen didn't react to the baby falling off which surprised me but still, LOL.

Where's my kingdom?! by Nufflee 2018-08-17T10:32:55Z

I love how it feels like a board game in a video game, especially due to the 3D perspective :) The gameover page made me laugh, nice twist there XD Perhaps adding more troopers/units when new enemy units spawn or healing the troop after defeating a wave would make progression more rewarding! That said I really love the concept, smooth controls, and the unique experience the game gives!

HAMMERSPACE by kaiclavier 2018-08-25T11:30:42Z

Super fun multiplayer game! Rare to find multiplayer in LD but this turned out great, the concept is really good! :D

Cube Disposer by sh1rogane 2018-08-27T07:39:47Z

This was pretty fun! The animations and sound effects made it really satisfying :) Got to wave 13 from the first, never thought I'd be afraid of cubes haha. The variety of the enemies made it really interesting too! I realised I never actually used Q/E, though I'm not sure if that would've changed anything xD

Disk Allocation: Typing Spectacular by electr1ca 2018-09-01T08:40:19Z

Yay, I made it :D win type.PNG

Lost the first time but got it the second time! The difficulty was just right in my opinion, with the upgrades and all. It gets really intense but really fun at the same time and I loved how each stage had its own theme (coding, music, school etc.). I absolutely loved the graphics and animations, both the player and enemies are really charming :) It feels like if this was the fighting mechanic of a full game with story and all it will do well! :)

I didn't get any scripts at the very last stage+boss run after the upgrade though, I was worried though I managed to beat it. Perhaps one more script would be satisfying :D Oh and the script's effects work nicely too. I wasn't sure if I can keep all of them at once, though! I tried to limit myself to having 3 maximum at one point :)

Dear Leader's Diet Plan by Historymaker118 2018-08-14T07:58:07Z

Really love the audio! It was fun learning the mechanics and bouncing him around :D

The Red pixel by RainbowKappaGames 2018-08-17T10:55:40Z

Nice game! The animations are really nice and the overall design of the levels are well thought out. The controls were smooth and I really enjoyed playing this!

Pop it! by LJay 2018-08-15T12:53:17Z

Fun little game! The different popcorn and sound effects are really cute, and I liked how the smallest corn popped into the biggest popcorn with wiggly brows xD

How to Bee a MailBee by Hugimugi7 2018-08-15T07:53:52Z

This is a really fun game! The physics of the bee and package are pretty cool - I could push the boxes to recipients and attempt to throw the package at them if the dark space covered them, and that created different ways of completing a level. The music is upbeat and the pixel art is so beautiful! Thumbs up!

Intergalactic Inhabitance Mission by NNNIKKI 2018-08-15T14:07:16Z

Love the interface for menu screen, pause, and new highscore, with the alien symbols. Catchy tune and smooth controls that is quite intuitive! Neat game :)

CATSITTER by PureGarlic 2018-08-14T18:40:03Z

This game is adorable, I had some laughs when I accidentally moved my mouse too fast into a bunch of cats and they all flew off at an amazing speed. Smooth gameplay with cute graphics and sounds, it was enjoyable playing your game!

Running Out Of S.P.A.C.E by Ely Shaffir 2018-08-27T07:16:27Z

Gotta _love_ those references, there're so many of them. It kept me playing for quite a while, and at some points I feel like, this must be the last level, right? But nope there are more challenges ahead! (I stopped at the fire level) It was fun though, would have continued if i had more time!

Perhaps a steam gauge showing when our jetpack recharges would be good ^_^ Lovely graphics and music! Leeeroy Jenkins! :)

Space Runner 2048 by RAFFE 2018-08-15T14:25:33Z

Nice game, I loved the physics of all the objects! Also like the theme of rubber ducks throughout the game. At first I thought, wow, a soothing little game, and then I met the black hole. The transition for the music at the start could be smoother. Finally won the game after about 5 tries, and I love the soundtrack on Earth the most :) Cute that you can still move the astronaut around there. Overall a nice entry!

Spacebars by The Triumvirate 2018-08-15T05:32:37Z

Very creative interpretation of the theme, and I love how the room reacts to the input of any key it has! Really lovely touch to it. Great entry!

Vertex by MiracL 2018-08-17T10:45:18Z

Nice game, well polished and easy to pick up! Love the rate of advancement in the game and also the end where it scrolls to the bottom, neat animation there! The UI overall is really nice. Small thing though - if I spammed my arrow keys I can actually progress forever without penalty :p so perhaps you can add a penalty for a wrong key pressed if you decide to expand on the game! :)

Follow The Light by DraperDanMan 2018-08-15T08:19:39Z

Ooh, gameplay was really smooth and audio was great! The sounds of the footsteps and jumps added a lot to the experience as well. The falling and double jump moments were fun when you hit space at just the right time and it takes you really far. The game made me want to continue playing for a long time, the challenge and reward feels just right :) I only stopped when I met the (likely) above mentioned bug!

Follow The Light by DraperDanMan 2018-08-15T10:30:17Z

@draperdanman I just replayed the game and realised that the floor is lava did not render for some of the levels previously (only 1 had a red floor the entire game, even the last level which i was stuck at was white)! So previously on the last level I could run quite a bit on the floor before the level restarts itself, which was strange. When I played this time many of the lava levels rendered right (I was like, wait, there were these levels?) and i made it to the end, yay! :D

Follow The Light by DraperDanMan 2018-08-15T10:49:38Z

@draperdanman I'm playing on Windows, graphics quality medium! Thinking back on it, I thought I was taking fall damage at some point, those were probably the lava levels that didn't show haha. Perhaps it's a graphic card issue on my side, but if not, I hope you can find the bug! ^_^

The Subway: horror within by Bibilega 2018-08-15T12:42:53Z

Incredible art with gorgeous character designs and a really cool skill set for the player! The varied responses of the passengers made it really fun. Love the small details in the artwork such as 666 on the train and the background of the train when you use the burst of rage skill! Amazing work!!

Inventory Apocalypse by Naruvan 2018-08-25T10:02:37Z

Really fun, I enjoyed the game :) The interactions between the objects, such as purifying the water/adding water into the bottle was pretty cool :D The game doesn't fully fit my screen though!

Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus 2018-08-15T13:24:30Z

A really good game, really fun and addictive, and love the way the progression works! One of the best games I've played. Great pixel art and stunning soundtrack - I really love them. It has a lot of potential! :)

Taint - A LD42 Game by Pyja and BKAT by Pyjamaboy 2018-08-15T03:22:51Z

Lovely graphics and music for your game, one of my favourites so far! The levels have a smooth transition as well. There might be a bug where I cant jump at some point after dismounting the broom! I think this game has a lot of potential. Great job! :)

Falling Town by Centauri 2018-08-14T08:53:03Z

Something felt good about hoarding a lot of future skyscrapers, LOL

hoards.PNG hehe.PNG

Thank you for making this game! Love the art and catchy music :)

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-23T13:44:55Z

Really cool concept and nice puzzle game! The red and green colours are very intuitive, and there are many possible ways the levels could be made, so it's engaging too. Maybe a speed power up in some levels that will make you move faster (but grow at a slower rate across the same distance) would be fun? :D Just a thought c:

You Wanna Pizza Me? by Elowan 2018-08-27T07:25:27Z

Nice game, would've liked to see my score at the end! I like how the theme was subtly incorporated into the mechanics :)

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-27T07:50:55Z

Amazing aesthetic, absolutely loved the graphics and audio. The gameplay was fun as well, I liked how the more you eat the more skulls there are. The huge skele was like _wow boss battle_ but ended sooner than I expected! I think all the small skulls helped, though if I get more control over the fight (more swords/other power ups maybe) it'll be even more fun. Super great overall :D

R.O.O.M. (Really Obvious Objects Moving) by NorthernDevGuy 2018-08-16T09:47:04Z

The concept fits nicely with the theme and I think the overall gameplay is engaging. I like the story the game tried to tell and the music was great! The maps were nicely designed - from the starting room to the hallway and puzzle rooms. I think that focusing on making the jump feel smooth and intuitive is important since it is the core mechanic of the game, and some changes (such as adding more visual cues, or making it happen at a slightly slower speed from normal movements) may help! Cool entry for first LD!

OPEN-ME.ZIP by Adam Harms 2018-08-15T06:51:53Z

I love this so much. The opening of the game and realising that I am functioning as a bot set a really interesting mood/feeling for me. The interactions are simple yet interesting and direct ways of presenting how a bot functions. I like how programmes are needed to be used for multiple actions at different times, with the theme incorporated well into that. Got a hunch when I reached the photographs, and teared up at the end. Amazing music, smooth gameplay transitions, and a storyline that is so well written and directed! Thank you so much for this game, it was really an experience! :')

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-14T18:00:36Z

@thibaultar Thanks for playing! Yes you can destroy the cracks in the floor, by clicking the mending tool and then clicking where the crack is!

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-14T18:03:46Z

@historymaker118 Thank you for your kind words, I am glad you love the overall art and gameplay! In the post-jam version, I've tried to balance the game better after receiving feedback from you and others who tried, and hopefully it is more beatable while still posing a challenge! :)

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-15T14:49:20Z

@raffe I'm very glad you enjoyed it! <3 Thank you for playing!

That is true! I didn't manage to put any visuals in, but you can move between the tutorial pages with left and right key! I'll definitely keep UI/UX in mind for the future! :D

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-16T02:14:38Z

@hugmugi7 Thank you for playing! Happiness increases when there's enough housing (1 settler needs 1 house) and food (keep food more than number of settlers)! Really appreciate your feedback :)

@nnnikk Thank you so much for playing and for your feedback! I'll consider balancing it and adding more features for sure, thank you for your kind words <3

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-16T02:20:43Z

@dylan-shumway Ahh thank you so much for your comment, I am so happy you found it relaxing yet engaging. That was what I was going for! :D As the creator I'm also very touched that you got a little attached to your colony <3 Glad that you might come back to it, and hope that if I expand the game in the future you'd get to try it as well! ^_^

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-16T13:46:01Z

@rk3omega Thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it! It was very useful in making me think about how I have gotten so used to play testing that it became easy for me, while new players need some time to get used to how the game works.

Your suggestions were very valid and helpful! I hope that the post-jam updated game would have a better balance for new players! :)

The additional feature sounds like a fun idea :D Would love to try implementing it when I build on the game in the future.

All in all, thank you so much for your feedback, it was really helpful and encouraging! <3

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-17T10:04:06Z

@crafty-mine @miracl Thank you so much for playing! I understand the game is a little too hard with not enough directions - I learnt that letting new players playtest the game is very important. Hopefully the post-jam version is better, and thank you so much for your feedback! :)

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-17T10:06:59Z

@nufflee Sadly i /just/ missed the part where you streamed my game, but thank you so much for doing so! It really gave me a new perspective on how players play my game - thank you for the experience and feedback, very much appreciated! :) loved watching your stream!

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-23T13:48:04Z

@ddrkirbyisq Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad it kept you engaged :) Sometimes I forget that they don't spawn on the same square as well, maybe there's a better way to execute that mechanic! Thank you for your feedback :)

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-26T14:09:55Z

@dog-bone42 @ely-shaffir Thank you so much for your support! I'm definitely thinking of extending the game and making it more of a survival citybuilder-esque game, hopefully making it fun for players :) Just made a [twitter account](https://twitter.com/TinyColony) for it, if you're interested in updates! :D

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-08-26T14:11:20Z

@merpader Thank you for playing! The suggestion for a bigger hitbox is really valid, will definitely take it into account when improving! Thank you! :)

Steerbear by Skelpdar 2018-08-15T11:38:54Z

Lovely background, nice animations, cute bear - would have preferred it if mounting ladders were the arrow keys too, that'll be more intuitive :)

Mass Coalesce by Jumpander 2018-08-15T15:30:52Z

The game is well put together - audio and mood was really amazing, I loved it! <3 Graphics are really neat and the concept of the world and species is cool as well. Gameplay can be more dynamic, such as solving puzzles, and enemies can be more threatening (hit harder)! :) Overall a beautiful creation <3

She is helmet by Stegobubbles 2018-08-15T11:11:36Z

The idea is really innovative! The art style is quite endearing as well. I beat the bread king but I think he sat on me and I died? I was a little sad, haha. Perhaps a checkpoint before bigger battles would be rewarding for players! ^_^

Andromeda by oats 2018-08-14T10:03:08Z

Really enjoyed this game, it is deeper than it first seemed! Always pleasantly surprised when discovering a new resource/building. It gave me similar vibes to the text adventure game "A Dark Room". "The Journey has taken 2642 years" for me :) Cool that you used two interpretations of running out of space, and this game really has the sci-fi feel to it, it was great. The visuals for the ground and builds could be bigger!

Move_LD42 by Diablo 2018-08-15T07:30:32Z

Nice animation for map generation and indicating where the player is on the map! The jump mechanic is different from usual yet easy to pick up, and overall it was neat game. I think a level system with different starting maps will be a pretty fun addition to your game, if you intend to work on it more! :)

Slay The Slimes by rk3Omega 2018-08-16T14:28:11Z

Really nice game! I tried both the compo and post-jam versions. The art and animations are really good, and the additions in the post-jam game made it even better! I agree that the post jam song is lit ;)

I might've preferred the the classic controls of space being jump (like in your image for the post), instead of space as attack, though after some time I got used to it! I would've also liked the edges of the map to be clearer made so that there won't be any surprise deaths haha. I jumped too far in the post-jam version and only saw the "go back" sign when i reached that part of the map and inevitably died, though that was quite funny in its own way xD

Overall smooth controls and has potential to become a rogue-like as you've mentioned! ^_^

The Legend of Cactus by Astericon 2018-08-15T11:22:52Z

Neat game, and I like the movement and bomb placement mechanics! Flying cacti are awesome. Perhaps a dash action could be added so we can move faster at times :)

Feed cats by Noini 2018-08-15T10:43:54Z

Pixel cats were cute! I loved it when the cats grew bigger, it's a nice surprise. I think being able to do something other than upgrades (such as stroking the cat to increase happiness, for example) would make it more interesting!
