LD42 — Running out of space

Super Responsible Parent by dietzribi 2018-08-17T03:44:42Z

I loved this game when I played it on stream! It got the viewers really engaged because of how difficult it was too.

I managed to beat all 11 levels on stream though

Super awesome game, I loved the art and sounds especially! The intro and victory screens were a very nice touch. Super good job on this game

A Hundred Dogs by gentoogames 2018-08-17T03:59:09Z

This game was great, but super hard and sad! No one want's dead dogs q.q I couldn't seem to keep my dogs alive, and always ended with lots of negative score (around -7 million, those poor dead dogs...)

I loved the sounds and the artwork, this game was super well made. The only thing I found frustrating was picking up multiple dog bowls when I was trying to set one down.

Thanks for sharing this game with me and letting me stream it, really great job on this

Lootsalot by Sn4pi 2018-08-15T00:06:57Z

I really love the art style! The game is pretty hard though, I couldn't seem to get much further than the first shop.

Monarch-eat by drtizzle 2018-08-17T03:54:35Z

This was a really neat little experience. I liked the music and the art style. Minimalist but still good. It could be made into a neat little VR experience too if added onto. Maybe add a nice little animation, and it would be an awesome VR experience

Shopper by catchthefloaty 2018-08-17T04:05:50Z

This was a neat little experience! I had a blast mashing my keyboard to make money for more boxes!

I liked the message at the end when you fill your house up with boxes too, and the emails you get from your friends are a humorous touch! Thanks for submitting this to the stream! The VOD is published if you want to watch me playing through your game

GRANDMA KNIGHT by manusaiz 2018-08-15T00:34:15Z

This game made me tear up at the end for real... It's clearly made from the heart and was a very heartfelt experience. Thank you for sharing this with everyone! Really great job on this game, and a great take on the theme.

Freezing Sky by Zeriver 2018-08-16T22:21:11Z

Thanks so much for sharing this game with me! I loved the gameplay and artwork, and think if this was expanded it could be a super popular mobile game!

Djabo by thomas-olsson 2018-08-17T04:03:47Z

This game was really well done! I loved the art, the sounds, the gameplay, it was all really well done. Thank you for submitting it to the stream! The VOD is published on Twitch if you want to check out my review of your game. It was kinda hard to get the portal, but I managed to beat it

Sim Tabloid by netguy204 2018-08-15T03:05:35Z

A really neat little management sim! This could be a really neat Tycoon game if developed further!

Great job with this one, I had fun playing through until I got $100k

Overclocked by LuckyFeathers 2018-08-17T04:01:54Z

I really loved this puzzle game. It's super well made and extremely polished. The art, gameplay, everything was super well done! I had a blast playing through and getting all the upgrades to my computer

Thanks for submitting this to my stream, and being such an active viewer! Great job on this entry!!

Building On The Edge by theslate 2018-08-15T04:09:19Z

I really like the graphics and the idea of the game. But I downloaded the windows build and no matter where I placed the building or what building I placed I didn't get any money for them, so the game would very quickly end with me only getting around 18 points or so. (I don't think that's intended that's why I thought I'd mention it).

I really do like the artstyle and the graphics though!

Bay Area Traffic: Disaster Simulator by dxk2294 2018-08-13T23:55:07Z

The traffic seemed to disappear and then not reappear in the morning. They also all seemed to be going in the same route. I'd suggest randomly placing the cars around the city to start. Overall it's a good start and I really like your overall idea for the game (though maybe pick a smaller idea next time  )

Beat the Glitches by grey 2018-08-14T22:33:01Z

No offense to you @grey but Compo games were required to be submitted on Sunday, today was the submission day for the Jam (since the website was acting up yesterday they extended submission hour to a full day).

In order for this to be a Compo entry you would've needed to submit this by Sunday 4pm...

On a brighter note, I'll give this a play and review for you

HITMAN: The Floor Is Lava by Niker107 2018-08-17T03:48:08Z

I loved this game! I just wish there were a couple more levels. The final couple levels were very challenging and well done. Overall the game is super great, and I had a blast playing this on stream

Quibble Quarrel by TJ101010 2018-09-02T02:52:10Z

Played your game on my stream, you can see my thoughts and gameplay on my [Twitch channel](https://www.twitch.tv/sokuaisushi). Thanks for submitting this game to the queue!

Quibble Quarrel by TJ101010 2018-09-02T03:53:47Z

@tj101010 I was actually just about to play the game, and was streaming when I wrote that comment. I figured you wouldn't see the message for a while though. The VOD should be up now!

Thanks for the submission, and great job on this entry

Castle Defenders by Bela Bohlender 2018-08-14T23:43:14Z

I really like this game, but holy crap it's hard!! Graphics and sounds are especially good.

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-13T04:09:25Z

@johan-vischer The very first build I uploaded had a game breaking bug due to me rushing it out and not setting up the scene properly. I promptly uploaded a patch (before the submission hour ended at 3:49 even), but you must've downloaded the initial build. Sorry for the issue you had, if you want to try it again and let me know what you think I'd love that! I'll be sure to rate and review your game as well

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-13T23:04:14Z

Thank you both so much for your kind words @ossi and @dxk2294 !! It really means a lot to me  I'm also really glad you both liked my take on the theme, I'll be sure to play your games in return!

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-15T00:40:54Z

@grey Thank you very much for the kind words! As for the memory out of bounds, it's possible that your browser or my game is not allocating enough memory to the game (it is fairly shader heavy, and instantiates quite a few objects). It runs fine for me though, what browser are you using?

@anstabo Thank you very much! The shaders were made easy by using Unity's new Shader Graph tool. It's super awesome, and simplifies making shaders a lot.

@duandi Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-15T04:26:03Z

@penguinpotential Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the game  I do plan on working on the game more, and potentially porting it to Android, so more power ups are definitely in the realm of possibilities!

@netguy204 Thanks very much, it really means a lot to me! The last level (and all other levels) were made in a hurry in the last hour leading up to the Compo submission time, so I apologize for the unbalanced level... (I actually didn't have enough time to test the last level until after I uploaded the game, and didn't even know if it was beatable until I beat it the first time  )

@naver Thank you very much! I apologize for the unbalanced final level!!

@rexpeppers Thank you, I'm really glad you liked the game!!

@theslate Thank you, I'm glad you liked the first puzzle game I've made  I plan to use those puzzle mechanics more in other levels in the future too!

And thanks to everyone else who played and rated grOw!! It means so much to me to get this kind of reception for my second Ludum Dare entry and first Compo entry! I plan on working on the game more and adding way more levels, and just adding overall polish to the game. I'll add a link to the extended version once I make the first version of it for anyone who wants to play it (but of course I'll make sure to make note that this isn't the version the game should be judged on, and make the extended version downloadable only).

I've also played and rated everyone's game who commented here, and think you all did amazing jobs  thanks again for playing my game and I'm so glad so many of you enjoyed it!!

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-17T03:20:55Z

Sorry to everyone who's commented here! I'll be streaming and reviewing everyone's game who posted a comment here tomorrow (minus the games I've already rated).

Thanks so much for all the kind words from everyone! I'm super glad so many of you have enjoyed my little puzzle game!!

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-17T04:59:14Z

@rubixnoob13 Yeah you beat it, good job! Lots of people struggled to beat that last level because it was so unfair. I really appreciate your kind words too, I'm glad you liked the glow effect!

@luis-giron Thanks so much! I'm super glad you liked the graphics so much  and I'm glad you liked the concept too! Thanks for the review!

@prv Thank you for the kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed the game

@plusminus If you're talking about the room with the moving blocks then you're right. I didn't have time to balance that level (all the levels were made in the final hour before submission hour). Sorry that level frustrated you! It's been scrapped for the extended version I'm releasing tomorrow.

@himadri-sekhar-mahanta Thank you, it means so much to me!! I'm really glad you enjoyed my little compo game, it took about 32 hours of the 48 hour time-frame to pull off :cold_sweat: Thanks again!!

@webthingee No thank you! Thank you so much for the kind words, it means a lot to mean  I do like to think I have a good attention to detail, but I'm my own worst judge and found tons of things to scrutinize about my game haha. I've fixed a lot of the bugs and issues I've found and will be releasing the fixes in an extended version tomorrow.

@truc-e Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the game's aesthetics! I did try to set out the levels in a way that teaches you how to play without ever showing you or telling you. I find puzzle games that are intuitive like that are my favorites  As for the crash, there are several possibilities to why that might've happened. I've been looking into the issue as it's happened to me randomly as well, but have yet to find the root cause.

@holyblackcat Thank you for the kind words! I'm really glad you like the game, and I apologize for that last level! It was completely unfair and a result of me rushing to get 5 levels into the game (and putting moving blocks and green lasers into at least one level). It has been scrapped for the extended version being released tomorrow!

@grey That's an interesting issue, and explains why it hasn't happened to me. I'll download Chrome soon myself so I can test it out and see if I can't find the cause of that issue. Thank you for the report!

@rk3omega Yeah the gravity to the particles was a last minute touch I thought made them look much better! I'm glad to know someone else agrees  As for that level, it was unfair and I rushed out that level. I apologize if it frustrated you, and that level has been completely scrapped for the extended version I'm releasing tomorrow.

And for those of you reading this, you probably already read about the extended version I'm releasing tomorrow up above. It will be downloadable only and build for Windows. I'll be sure to make note that this is not the version people should be judging the game by, and that it was made after the jam to expand upon my compo entry!

Eventually (and especially if people show interest) I might port the game to Android, and/or make a level editor for people to make their own levels and share them with others.

Thanks to everyone who played my game and rated my game! I'll be streaming a bunch of Ludum Dare games (including the games of people who commented above) tomorrow, feel free to catch me on [Twitch.tv](https://www.twitch.tv/sokuaisushi)

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-18T06:44:03Z

@sobakaduka Thanks! I'm really glad you liked my visuals!!

@saoi-games I know you played my game on stream, I submitted it and then watched you play it while I was in chat trying to help you! Haha, I really appreciated all feedback and for you playing through the game. Again I apologize the last level was so unfair.

@zeriver Thanks so much! Thanks for hanging out in my stream as well, I agree that the lack of audio sucks. It was one of the last minute things that I ran out of minutes to do for the compo. Had I taken the extra time for the Jam I could've added sounds. The extended version has a couple sounds as a test for adding sound feedback to everything. Thanks again for playing through grOw! (And you did beat it, I ran out of time for a thank you victory screen, sorry about that).

@matt-tuttle Thanks so much! I'm glad you like the shader work I did, even if it was some quick simple Unity LWRP and Shader Graph magic. I'm sorry the game crashed on you, what browser are you using? Did you try to reload and run the game after the crash to see if the bug was recurring? Thanks again!

I meant to upload the extended version earlier today but got distracted with streaming Ludum Dare games. I've uploaded the extended version now and it has two times as many levels, infinite times more sounds (2 sounds), more balanced and thought out levels with a better difficulty curve (no more unfair fifth level), and it fixed tons and tons of bugs (most of them hopefully). I'll be building the extended version to Linux and MacOS within the next few days too, for those of you running on those machines.

Note you shouldn't rate the game based on the Extended version. For the Compo entry you should play and rate the browser version or the non-extended windows build.

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-19T20:39:44Z

@petitpadawan Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it

@matt-tuttle Awesome! I'm so glad you were able to play through it  Congratulations on beating that last level too, most people found it too difficult to squeeze through!

@ryanjavanshir Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm really glad you like the aesthetic and the concept, I've been working on extending the game lately! So check back if you want to see a longer version of the game

@johnny-turbo Thank you so much!! That was my original concept was shrinking and growing to get past levels, and I've been working on making the levels better suited towards that idea in the extended version. As for why the extended version links to the original, that has to due with the fact that Unity's Windows 64 bit build was crashing on startup (even though the game ran fine in play mode). I've changed the build to 32 bit Windows, and it seems to run fine now. So if you click the link now you can download and try the extended version!

@jamison Thank you so much for the kind words, rating and review, and joining my stream! I'm glad you enjoyed the aesthetics of grOw  The extended version should be up now if you want to try it out!! Sorry for the delay on that, Unity seems to have a bug with the UnityPlayer on 64 bit builds due to security permissions. (They said it was fixed on 2017.2 but lots of people on that thread all claim it was never fixed, so thanks for that Unity).

@luckyfeathers Thanks so much for the rating and review, and for the kind words! I'm really glad you like the graphics and the game concept, I apologize for the unfairly balanced levels. I made all the levels in a rush in the last hour before submission time, and as a result they were poorly thought out and hastily designed. I've rebalanced the speed of the rotation on that level you're talking about in the extended version, and I love the idea of a countdown timer at the start of the levels (or perhaps even a button that allows you to start the level on your own time). As for the character speed, with the way I hastily put together the player "squishing" between the blocks increasing the player's speed caused them to die on contact with the red blocks. This was obviously undesirable so I lowered the player speed to lower the chance of that happening (but it still happens sometimes). I've been working on ways to stop that from happening, mainly only having kill zones on moving blocks and having them further inside the red blocks. These seem to help and should be out on the next extended version. Again thank you so much for the kind words, rating and reviewing my game, as well as joining my stream and hanging out in chat!

The extended version has now been fixed, and the cause is a bug with Unity's Win 64 bit builds. As such the current extended version is only built for 32 bit (which you can still run on 64 bit machines of course). However the extended version is out now for anyone who wants to try it! Sorry for the delay on this fix, and sorry to anyone who tried to download it but couldn't find the link...

Thanks so much for all the kind words and feedback from everyone. It's more than I ever could have hoped for and means so much to me! Thanks again everyone, cheers!

Sodaboi by Tony Redmer 2018-08-17T03:49:52Z

I loved the art and the sounds, and the gameplay, and theme, and everything! But you already knew that since one of you watched me on stream

Thanks for sharing this game with me. I had a blast trying to beat my previous high scores! Boy is this game hard though haha!

Soggy Bunny by rexpeppers 2018-08-15T03:46:13Z

This is a very solid foundation for a puzzle game, and I had a blast playing it! My only complaint was that it was too short

Great entry, and I think it's awesome you're using games and programming as a learning tool! You rock!!

RAMbot by lekkel124 2018-08-30T03:12:38Z

I beat RAMbot on stream on my [Twitch channel](https://www.twitch.tv/sokuaisushi).

This game is super hard but I really enjoyed it and played all the way to the end!

Check out the VOD on my channel if you want to me playing and rating your game! Thanks for submitting this to my queue, it might've been hard (and pissed me off at times) but I really enjoyed it!!

RAMbot by lekkel124 2018-08-30T18:39:37Z

@storm-poison and thank you for submitting it! (Even if it took an hour to beat it because I was so bad at the game  )

Book Crook! by Ossi 2018-08-13T23:17:09Z

A very neat little experience! I liked some of the titles for the "Magic" books  My favorite after playing a few times was "Top 10: Anime Battles" Very well done

Gassy Dancer [LD42] by PenguinPotential 2018-08-15T02:52:44Z

A really neat and interesting game! I especially liked the artwork, and the sounds and music were really good for a Compo entry!

Really interesting take on the theme too, nice job

Beyond Space by Allan Kong 2018-08-13T05:30:10Z

Pretty fun, though I only beat three levels before I lost on the fourth. My only real complaint is the minimap is really hard to see with the stars floating over it.

Great job overall though

Crumble by anstabo 2018-08-15T02:36:06Z

This is a super polished entry! I loved the graphics and art style!! The game is incredibly difficult, but once I realized how to play I managed to get to -1:01 (though only once).

Really good job you two, you should be very proud of this entry

Cat Cat Attack! by naver 2018-08-15T03:36:08Z

I really loved the graphics! I couldn't get past the two large black cats on top of each other though, even after several tries.

Overall a really good entry, the cat taking up all the space looks especially good too! I really liked this one

Cat Cat Attack! by naver 2018-08-15T04:27:44Z

@naver I tried to do that a few times but I guess I just didn't time it right. But for your first time really doing pixel art its amazing!! Much better than any pixel art I've ever made, that's for sure!

Space Run by mitsu.artemius 2018-08-14T21:25:33Z

I liked the game a lot! I played all the levels until I unlocked them all. I was hoping for like a secret level or something though

Overall really good job, a couple things of note though: from Jupiter onward the names of the levels you unlock are offset by one (getting enough exp to unlock Saturn say's "Uranus unlocked"), then when you finally do unlock Neptune the game doesn't tell you. There is also some small tile displacement on some of the levels.

Again really great job on this project  it was a lot of fun to play through (but is really hard lol, I think Jupiter is the hardest level too).

Aperature XP by Johan Vischer 2018-08-14T23:56:25Z

This is a neat game, and a really good use of the theme! The game is pretty hard too lol, took me a couple tries to beat medium difficulty, (then I was sad because the 42.zip file came back again and again  )

Ball Out Of Space!!Finish them! by Joker_v 2018-08-14T22:05:01Z

I'm getting an error when trying to open or extract the RAR file. Saying it can't be opened as an archive. The graphics look good though and I like the idea of the game!

Rainbow Rave by Rainbow Rave 2018-08-17T03:55:53Z

This game was so cool, and so well done. Even on single player it was still fun and challenging. I loved the music and the art style, and just the general idea of the game and everything. It was a blast to play on stream and try to win with all the AI running around trying to knock me over.

We are running out of Space Janitors by DUandI 2018-08-15T02:47:07Z

I really like the artwork and the art style! The game is super hard too, I couldn't kill many more than 5 blue ones before I lost.

Overall a really great entry! Nice work

Beat Bug Defense by Noxalus 2018-04-28T19:52:42Z

The timing on the rhythm matcher seemed to be off. I couldn't hit them whether or not they were on, before or after the black bar. I also was confused what the purpose of the rhythm matcher was outside of losing my credits...

Just One More Flap by daneestar 2018-04-28T20:19:56Z

Took a while to figure out how to play, but once I did I beat the 7 levels rather quickly. Would be interesting to see this on mobile and with more levels (and unique graphics)!

BunkerDefense by UnlikelyNomad 2018-04-28T20:03:43Z

This is definitely a perfect game for the theme and it was pulled off perfectly :)

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-15T16:11:12Z

@Lost-Dutchman-Software That makes a lot of sense! The graphics you found fit the game great nonetheless. I can't wait to see your next Ludlum Dare entry :)

Also that's pretty funny, as we had floating towers pretty much right up until the due date when I realized the towers weren't on the ground!

Sorry for the double post.

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-04-24T04:50:25Z

Thank you all so much for playing our game

Now to play all of yours!

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-04-24T16:12:08Z

@svdvorak that should only be happening if you try to make it impossible to path between the spawn and goal.

If you make the path impossible it will refund the tower you just placed but minus 10 credits for each time you've tried to block the path (to stop people from abusing it).

So a wall that blocks the path refunds no money, and then the next time you try to block the path you lose 10 credits, so on and so forth.

Thank you so much for rating and reviewing our game though! I'll be sure to do the same for you game when I get home

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-04-24T16:15:02Z

I'll be sure to rate and review your game when I get home!

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-05-15T16:05:46Z

@Lost-Dutchman-Software thank you so much for the kind words!! :) I'm really glad you enjoyed our game!

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-05-15T19:31:42Z

@Langotriel Thank you so much for the kind words!! I'm glad you liked it :)

We had the idea to do things like that but ran short on time to implement such features.

And thank you so much to everyone who rated us and helped get the game above 20 aggregate ratings!!

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-05-15T19:49:58Z

@nilead Thank for the review!!

This is an awesome little "farming simulator" I love how you fertilize the soil with blood, definitely brings out the humor of this!

I got tossed off the edge really quick though.

This was an awesome little typer sports game  I loved the art and the sounds! Nice solid "thuds" of a mechanical keyboard.
