LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Cell 09 by 01010111 2014-12-13T06:40:00

That automatic mini gun style weapon was quite satisfying to shoot... holy crap.

Snowman's Revenge by ketura 2014-12-09T03:36:00

One of the funnest games I've played so far. This game just made me... happy. The was incredibly well executed in all categories. I love when the really fast one charge at you. I spent most of my time with the lights off because I constantly needed to make snowballs. The only thing I would critique is that I want some sort of a kill counter.

Flamethrowers vs. Snowmen by jotson 2014-12-08T07:07:00

So fun! It looks like an insane amount of work went into the graphics, even the loader looks good. Nice work., Also, I'd definitely love to give this a try in real life sometime ;)

Bubblemellow by cinnamonmelonpig 2014-12-08T07:21:00

Solid game, I love the transition between levels, where you start on the last place you ended.

Pocket Contra Force by nodoxi 2014-12-11T05:45:00

This is in top 3 so far, such an amazing attention to detail. Super fun to play! You conveyed so much with such small screen space.

Super Death Grid Of Death (with deadly beats) by Stending 2014-12-14T21:01:00

Hey, just saw your comment on my game, Avoid Rage. I agree that they employ a similar concept, but yours take things many levels further, that blew me away! There so many different variations of difficulty as your game continues.

The matching with the music really brings it all together too. Is that a difficult thing to do in Unity? I only know web tech (html, css, js, canvas), and I have no idea how I'd go about keeping the game loop in sync with the music.

Excellent work on this!

Avoid Rage by jackrugile 2014-12-11T06:23:00

@indigofiz I agree, if I had more time to work on it, I definitely would have added in some sort of secondary goal. Perhaps having to collect an item to advance the difficulty.

@rjhunter Ha yeah, it all just ramps up pretty fast at one pace. I would love to learn more about the web audio API so that I can sync gameplay to music reliably. One day!

@stephenhaney That's a really good point about the speed of the light animation. Right now, they are basically just aesthetic. I didn't even consider that they could be used for gameplay help.

@Jupiter_Hadley Thanks for the include, much appreciated!

@Christina Antoinette Neofotistou Badges, so good, so addicting... Maybe one day ;)

@mrexcessive When I first started coding, I had the intention of doing some sort of check for the player being in impossible situations, and avoiding that. But, I didn't have enough time to code it and honestly, I still don't know how I'd go about it with my limited logic ;)

BBQ DAD by Luke Molnar 2014-12-10T05:59:00

Loved this game, the voice acting made it for me. Hilarious! Well done!

Snowball juggling Olympio by Benjamin 2014-12-11T08:47:00

I'm blown away by this game. The life you put into that snowman is incredible, I love him! Such a fun mechanic that is difficult to master and spiced up with the challenge modes. This should definitely win in many categories. Thanks for the experience.

Voxey Adventure by Pepelumen 2014-12-09T03:09:00

Hmmm, didn't rate, because I couldn't get the control to work. It would only rotate with arrows, but nothing else would trigger anything.

Neighboring by psychonull 2014-12-09T03:14:00

Haha, I died laughing when I saw Mind: Insane, Body: Wrecked. Can't believe you made this in a weekend, very well done.

Squishi by uncade 2014-12-13T08:05:00

The level transitions were beautiful and the controls worked perfectly! I love that you overloaded the space bar with three types of functionality. It felt intuitive. Nice work!

The Screen Space by KickBack 2014-12-09T03:01:00

I love the humor the dialogue. Such a beautiful game, excellent work.

Velcro by camlang 2014-12-24T02:27:00

Damn, this game has some of the best styles both visually and aurally this LD. Excellent work!

ARENA++ by undefinist 2014-12-13T06:36:00

You nailed it with the concept, amazing work there. Also the graphic style is awesome.

However, I do wish that the controls were a little more responsive for the movement of the hero. That, or let me run through enemies and remove the drag on the wall. As it currently is, I just felt doomed to be swarmed with bullets immediately.

As others have said, it would be nice to avoid the pauses in between level shrinkage some how. Maybe if the level was constantly always shrinking for that round, but then you could also always be shooting enemies.

Overall, amazing game. Great work and lots of polish.

You are Green by Downtown 2014-12-08T08:03:00

Very well done. I was skeptical when I saw the screenshot, but I was wrong. I love the humor in this and the concept is solid. Very cool art style. And thank you so much for being slightly forgiving with your collision detection :)

Kevin's uncommon story by Zimennik 2014-12-09T03:21:00

I immediately fell in love with the character, solely based on look. This was a super fun concept and the puzzles were put together well. The only problem I had, even though I liked the music, in my opinion it didn't fit the game, story, or graphics. Just opinion there though. Nice work!

Jumping n' Jumping by Eduardo 2014-12-08T06:03:00

This turned out sick! The jump mechanic is so fun to play with. I love that you are showcasing your art skills in the back too with the parallax effect. Keep it up, man!

Get the Snowflakes by joelthebergman 2014-12-10T05:31:00

I agree with the previous comments regarding collision detection. Felt like I was getting caught on all the walls and getting killed from fire when I was far away. I like this type of timed collection concept though and had fun.

DisChord by Grindstorm 2014-12-09T02:45:00

Such a killer concept with a great feel. This aced it for audio and mood for me, it really set a nice feeling. The levels were skillfully crafted as well. The only nit pick is that the white background on the game page was so harsh compared to the dark game.

Johnny Snow VS Hot Stuff by theomg 2014-12-09T02:49:00

Nice game, I sucked at it, but not bad! I think there was one glitch, maybe it's a feature, but at some point I would start moving multiple tiles at a time and couldn't land on snow to recharge.

Abelian by merrak 2014-12-10T06:06:00

I love the concept and the level regeneration, looks awesome. It was a bit difficult for me, but I think that's my problem, not the game. Nice work!

Escape Character by Zi 2014-12-13T07:57:00

This game gets a perfect score from me. That game just brought me so much happiness, thank you. I'd love to play an extended version of this. Gosh, incredibly well done!

A Carrot Game by the-arrival 2014-12-09T02:33:00

This one is super fun, and gets more challenging at a good pace. I like the mechanic of having to kill enemies while managing crops, it is super tricky.

Cosmic Escape by neil.devan 2014-12-10T06:03:00

This one looked great, but my ship kept disappearing and my score would always stay at zero. Didn't vote for that reason.

CUBE Clicker by Polyganz 2014-12-11T06:47:00

This is in my top games for this LD for sure. I've spent the most time on this one out of all of them. The graphics blew me away. This could be huge if it got developed a little further with some music and sound effects. Keep it up!

Orion by feiss 2014-12-08T08:28:00

The art in this just blew my mind. I kept on wanting to drop pitch, one to feel the shake, and two to see the beautiful planet ;) Stellar work!

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Grow My Thing by ChronoDK 2015-04-23T03:14:00

46 inches! Nice game ;)

Duck Attack by ehtd 2015-04-20T06:36:00

Loved your concept, Ernesto! The golem art is so sick.

A.R.B.F. by Zanzlanz 2015-05-02T19:48:00

Holy crap, that was awesome! Such a fun, solid, complete game. You used your 48h wisely ;) It took me three tries to beat it, and I did it in 1:43.

I could definitely see this being successful if you continued development on it. Having multiple levels that are all boss fights would rule. I know that Titan Souls follows a similar concept. I haven't played it, but I think they stick with smaller battle zones. I feel like with your game and style, you could put a lot of emphasis on the level as well as the boss, just like you did here. You could ramp up new features with the boss and with level hazards, could be rad.

Anyway, I'm super impressed. The controls are so tight and easy to use. Well done.

Home by Sakuyan 2015-04-26T03:37:00

Such a sweet game. Made me happy, thank you!

Throw Junk at Aliens by jwin 2015-04-26T02:18:00

Haha, I love so much that I can throw the houses and the alien corpses ;) Nice job.

Hugline Miami by Figglewatts 2015-04-20T06:52:00

This is one of the best I've played. The graphics and music are incredibly well done. Such a fun game ;)

My only gripe was the lack of control when it came to selecting levels and not being able to end a round once I selected a character. My browser crashed at one point during them middle and it didn't save my level completions. Not a huge deal, it's 48h, but just some honest feedback. Well done!

God's Going to Cut Em Down by emmelineprufrock 2015-04-23T06:36:00

I loved this art style.

Jammie Dodger by dreamlogician 2015-04-23T06:00:00

I loved the concept, I have played anything quite like that before. I got 86 seconds. With some more levels, sfx, music, and little bit of graphic tune up, this game could go far. Nice job!

Space Boy by Hyoga-3D 2015-04-23T06:59:00

This concept is so cool ;) I had a blast. The blur on the far away objects looks awesome.

Puppet Guardian by sebasRez 2015-04-25T02:24:00

I wasn't able to jump on the OS X version.

TUGBOAT by lucentbeam 2015-04-24T07:27:00

Getting something that says "main Error" when I go to open the OS X version.

Zero Point by Nega Drive 2015-04-26T02:14:00

I see so much potential in this game. I love the concept and the graphics. Keep on developing this!

Badass Inc by deepnight 2015-04-20T04:04:00

Amazing work. I'm blown away by the visuals and can't believe you pulled this off in 48 hours!

DoubleNegative by Dickie 2015-04-25T02:47:00

Getting 'The application "doublenegative.app" can't be opened' on Yosemite 10.10.2 for the Mac build.

Fatal Attraction by erbridge 2015-05-09T05:15:00

Fuck me, I love and hate this game so much. Such a cool mechanic, which takes time to get used to (in a good way). However, the fact the screen wraps the enemies makes it way too chaotic too control. You are so zoomed into the action that it's insanely hard. If things didn't wrap, and if we could see a little more of the world, this game would be spot on, in my opinion. Anyway, I had a blast and it was so fun ;) The music set such a dark space mood too, very nice.

keyTD by foolmoron 2015-04-23T06:44:00

One of the most innovative concepts I've seen so far. I love it! And I need to work on my typing skills.

Tinka The Turtle by ruerob 2015-04-25T03:22:00

Shoot, I really want to play this because the graphics look lovely and the concept sounds delightful. I am getting errors in Chrome 42 for Mac though after the WebGL player fully loads. If you'd like a more detailed report of the console just let me know. (Twitter @jackrugile)

Tinka The Turtle by ruerob 2015-04-25T06:53:00

Nice work! It was nice to play a calming collection game that was peaceful compared with all the other games I've been playing. I love the graphics, especially the water movement and ripples from Tinka's path.

A few things I would consider tweaking:

1. The size of game feels very small. I'd like to see more at once.
2. It would be cool to see more of a variety of upgrades. I didn't get enough money for the final upgrade, so maybe that one is different than the rest. I was thinking of maybe a way to incorporate the mouse by being able to create a magnetic field in an area that pulls an item toward you slightly. Or, upgrade and have little baby turtles pop out and they swim around and try to nudge items toward you. You get the idea ;)
3. The controls were a little tricky to work with. Due to the nature of how it handled, I would continuously miss hitting a specific item I was going after. Since I couldn't slow down or turn with enough force to reclaim an item, it could get frustrating. I'd have to wait until I was far enough away, the item was off screen, then try to guess where it was as I fully turned around. Maybe mess around with a way to slow down or alter your course better. Those could be upgrades too.

Other than that, it was a delightful game and I enjoyed it.

L.O.V.E by sputnik 2015-04-27T03:33:00

Wow, I was not ready for this one. I'm blown away, that was incredibly well done. I went to go vote just now and assumed this would have been a jam entry, can't believe it's compo. The viewport resizing for different areas was SO cool! You've got quite the talent, keep it up. I know this game will do well, hope you win at least a category!

Frazzle Dazzle by hexdie 2015-04-26T20:22:00

This game pretty much has all of the things I'm looking for when playing an LD game:

- Solid and consistent graphic style
- Cohesive sound effects and music that fits the world
- An inviting title screen with a game logo/title
- Clear instructions without spelling everything out for you
- Progressively more difficult challenges and
- Interesting level design
- Not too short and not too long (1 min games and 30+ min games don't really do it for me with LD)
- Tight control response
- Not too many controls to remember that it becomes a headache
- Fits the theme
- Clear level goals and life indicator in the UI
- Playable in browser

I actually played through the game twice. The game is just fun, and solid in all areas. Excellent job!

Flail Rider by jushii 2015-04-23T02:28:00

Holy crap, I wish I had more stars for the fun category. Well done! Such a joy to play this one. I just wish I didn't die when tapping an object at 1 MPH ;) Not a problem, I just need more practice. So good!

Follow Me by Eduardo 2015-04-21T06:23:00

Woo, I beat it! I love the concept and could definitely see you taking this further. Nice work, Eduardo ;)

HEAT by Frenchie 2015-04-25T03:37:00

Holy crap... the heat missiles are by far my favorite weapon used this LD so far. They are so much fun to launch and let them do their thing. The boss fight was a really nice twist and brought a whole new dynamic to the game.

Bomb bringer by SMASH BASH 2015-04-25T02:40:00

I absolutely love the graphic style and the generated terrain. That combined with the low key music worked really well. The bomb of life at the end was a very cool touch. After seeing the muted colors the entire time, the color had a massive effect at the end.

I think the gameplay was good, but could be improved in a couple of areas. I'd love to have a little more sensitive controls, and little more control over the rotation of the ship. I found a few rock gaps I wanted to squeeze through by turning a full 90 degrees. And, the length of the level felt a little too long. If you were to continue this, I think breaking it all up into multiple levels, with different terrain and obstacles would be cool.

Overall, an excellent game, great job!

Dr. U and the bottomless PIT by farwyler 2015-05-12T00:57:00

Man, this is SO good! I got 157m, I need some practice, heh. It's super satisfying when you get in the groove and get the timing right when kill bats. The whole mood of the game is super polished as well.

My only complaint is the dead/invulnerable duration. I wish it lasted a little longer. I kept on getting hit by spike, then regaining mortality, then dying on the same spike again.

This is exactly the kind of thing I love to see out of an LD game. Keep it up!

Snow Cones by Mechamew 2015-04-26T03:32:00

Wow, them feels. Such an endearing little game, amazing work. I wish the mood meter went to 11.

Exhaust by FiendFodder 2015-05-11T00:54:00

Damn, this was so much fun to play. You nailed the classic arcade style and the controls were calibrated perfectly. Keep it up!

Terminal Velocity by morrilet 2015-04-23T07:24:00

OS X package seems to have the Windows files in it.

Intersection by okacat 2015-04-20T07:22:00

This was great, such a cool concept! I personally disagree with previous comments regarding it not being difficult or fast paced enough. There must be a part of my brain missing, because I was struggling really hard even with the current speed ;) So fun though, excellent job.

SleepOver by Dege 2015-04-24T02:28:00

Hey, getting the spinny wheel of death on the Mac version when I click "Begin:.

Future Gun by bace1000 2015-04-23T07:22:00

Very interesting concept. I liked it and appreciate that you didn't make the movements of the other self an exact copy. That being said, I found myself in situations where the main difficulty of the level was trying to get my past self to meet up with my current self ;)

Latvian Milk by Dreyan 2015-04-27T03:44:00

Such a great arsenal. The guns, bullets and hero have such a great feel to them. Nice work! Nothing like lining up a huge row and blasting through all of them with the laser style gun.

SPOON by JDAivaliotis 2015-04-25T03:18:00

Man, this is awesome! I love getting combos and time slow down when attacking. Some things I think could improve it if you continue to develop this:

1. Sound effects (might just be an issue in Chrome, I saw them loading in the network tab, but didn't hear them. I only heard the music).
2. More detailed levels with terrain that can be used strategically.
3. A little quicker response time on the thrust of the spoon. It felt a little unwieldy at times. I love that you can influence the direction and action of the attack, but adding a quicker response time would bring it all together in my opinion.

Overall, an awesome game! I used Playground.js for my game as well. It looks like you really put it to good use, so many cool animations in your game.

And now I want a donut...

Curiosity by poohshoes 2015-04-23T06:18:00

This is an awesome start. I love the art style of the ship! I'm sure you didn't have much time for the environment, but if you continued with the ship style that could look awesome. One other suggestion (no fault to you as I don't know what things weren't implement by your own choice, or by time constraints) is that it would be nice if the camera was position based on your velocity. For example, if your launching up, the camera would move up slightly so you could see where you were going and navigate better. Then, when your falling down, it would be the opposite.

LD33 — You are the Monster

Eat Sheep by ehtd 2015-09-03T06:41:00

This was great! I love the unique puzzle mechanic. I've always wanted to make a puzzle game, but I struggle coming up with ideas. One, there is the mechanic/rules themselves, then there is the handcrafted level creation that needs to be not too easy or hard, and ramp up in difficulty. I have a lot of respect for your puzzle talent. Nice job!

SLIME TIME by Incredible Ape 2015-08-26T05:50:00

Such an awesome game! The concept and graphics were top notch. Also, I loved that the controls weren't super easy at first. I like being able to practice and get better with interesting control schemes. Nice work!

B(L)OB by Nikteddy92 2015-09-03T05:25:00

I absolutely love the art style in this one, excellent work! Also, if so facto... JABBERWOCKY

Earth Was a Bad Choice by zatyka 2015-08-28T06:15:00

Incredibly well done! This is one of the funnest games I've played so far in LD33. Thank you thank you thank you for taking the time to put the off screen indicator for where you are ;)

Burden by TimBeaudet 2015-09-03T05:14:00

The mood and art style in this are incredible, well done! I also love that there are situation where you have to jump, then hit down fast, then jump again to clear the obstacles. Such a beautiful game, nice work you guys.

A Bad Wolf King is Hard to Feed by McFunkypants 2015-08-25T07:01:00

Great job, you guys! I had fun exploring the world you crafted. It has a very calming effect on me for some reason.

I always wondered what it would be like if contestants simply got to pick from the top three themes for their game. It might solve a lot of issues people have. Glad you went with your theme of choice, it turned out excellent.

My only criticism was the view controls. It very well might just be me not used to controlling a game view with the mouse in that fashion, but I struggled with it. I of course have made games with controls that feel perfect to me, and then everyone says it's hard as hell to control. So yeah, it very well could be me, but maybe it needs some tweaking too. Not sure what the solution would be.

Keep it up, looking forward to your entry in December!

Delicious Cortex by deepnight 2015-09-03T04:02:00

Blown away, great game!

I love the character, well done!

Corruption-5 by hexagore 2015-08-25T06:53:00

Such an awesome game! Amazing entry as usual.

No idea how you pulled this off in 48 hours, I'm impressed. Your engine looks great. Is that something you ever plan on releasing, or is that just your in house tool set?

I loved the progression of the monster, such a great concept. The art, audio, and story all came together for a cohesive experience. 5 stars, would play again ;)

Only one issue for me: damn you slow elevator!

Soup by JoshDBB 2015-09-03T04:16:00

I love that blob effect. I could see this type of mechanic making a super fun game if you were to expand on it and develop some more. Nice work!

Consume by Rocketship 2015-08-26T06:24:00

Holy crap, I love the aesthetic and the creepy glitches!

Player Rush by Hot Box Games 2015-08-27T04:17:00

Well done you guys! I love the art and the concept. This would be such a cool project to expand on, where you control different bosses and attack in different ways. I see you have a big list of possible developments, hope you guys continue with it.

Oh yeah, nice Leeroy reference ;)

Grave by uheartbeast 2015-09-01T06:15:00

Amazing graphics! Such a beautiful art style.

I'm not a monster by Eduardo 2015-08-25T06:40:00

Your pixel art looks great, as usual! Sorry you didn't get to flesh this one out fully. I know you've been busy with other game projects too though, so no worries. I need to dive into pixel art some time... it scares me though.

DRUMSTER by SoulGame 2015-08-27T07:06:00

The music rules! Thanks for keeping it varied. I love the look of the whoosh of the drumstick also. Well done, you guys.

Monster Garten by omaha 2015-08-28T06:41:00

Monster and Hero by MSiddeek 2015-08-26T06:30:00

Funny concept ;) Great job with the level design as well.

I HATE HALLOWEEN by Vaida 2015-08-26T06:58:00

The amount of effort you put into the art is insane, is looks SO good!

Sunset Monster by dregamr 2015-09-03T05:21:00

I'm a sucker for space shooters, great game!

Melody Muncher by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2015-08-28T06:31:00

UFO by Polyganz 2015-09-01T07:00:00

A very satisfying world to explore and destroy stuff in, nice job!

bloody tentacles by zuurr 2015-08-26T06:49:00

Great fun, nice concept ;) It's really satisfying killing the enemies. Even your own death is satisfying with all the blood, haha.

It would be nice to have a tighter camera on the monster though. I went blind into a sections a lot of the time.

Also, there are times when it was difficult to see my character. I always knew where it was, but it still was hard to distinguish from the background because there are a lot of times when the bright light of your eye is covered by your tentacles. Maybe have the eye always in the foreground?

Nice work!

Monster Academy by feiss 2015-08-27T05:09:00

I can't handle how good this is. It brought me so much joy. I died laughing at the first dancing cutscene ;) Each minigame is super fun. You put together such a cohesive package in all areas of the game. Perfect score from me.

On another note, it was great looking at how you used Playground.js. I learned a lot from your code and some new tricks (both from you and from how to utilize Playground.js). Can't believe how little code was written for this. Nice work!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Double Kick Heroes by blackmagic 2015-12-22T05:18:00

Last Chance To Green by Four Quarters 2016-01-02T21:55:00

This game was so beautifully done, visually and aurally. I would give 10 stars for mood if I could. I'd love to see this game expanded after the compo to something with more choice scenarios. Amazing work!

Life: The Game by ohmaigawd 2016-01-02T22:58:00

I loved this the game! The humor score is off the charts for me. I died laughing when I made the coffee wrong and my boss was puking, haha. You guys packed a lot of content into the 72 hours, well done!

UPSQUID by 01010111 2015-12-16T06:29:00

Well done, I love the graphic style and mood from the music!

Hyperspace by dekart 2015-12-15T06:58:00

I loved your concept and how it ties in both of the themes. I haven't seen one quite like this yet. You created a nice mood with the graphics and music as well. Nice work!

Pete and the Beanstalk by SeriousCreeper 2015-12-25T04:09:00

Such a well executed and innovative concept! You made use of the theme incredibly well. I hope this one reaches the top, it deserves it. Well done! No idea how your programmed this one.

Fun with magnets! by Ithildin 2016-01-02T22:07:00

I loved the concept for this one. The controls took a second to get used to, but you packed a lot into the two buttons. Nice work!

Growing Xmas Tree by Webravenz 2016-01-02T22:46:00

This submission was super refreshing to me. I know you guys don't actually consider it a game, but I think it definitely falls in that category. I love the permanence of the drawings, whether people put positive or negative things on their cards. It fits the growing theme perfectly! Nice job.

PS - I created an online HTML5 Etch A Sketch a while back that lets you save and share your creations. And yes, give anyone the power to draw on the web, and there will be dicks. Many dicks :)

OVERGROWN . UNDERFED by Almax27 2016-01-03T19:07:00

I love the visuals and music for this entry. As you said, you didn't get to complete it to your original ideas, but I think it still came out as a solid base that you could expand upon. Nice work!

Disassemble by Tommislav 2015-12-22T05:28:00

Such a cool concept! I'ld love to hear it with sound. Nice job!

Impulse by Nega Drive 2016-01-03T21:20:00

Very fun game! I love endless runners like this and I think you nailed it with visual and audio style.

My best was 7.24km in 0:56.

Longbeard by Joe Williamson 2015-12-15T07:07:00

Such a solid game all around. Amazing work! My favorite part is the coin graphic... so majestic.

Auto Racer by ethankennerly 2015-12-28T22:59:00

I love the concept with this one. The blinkers added a ton of fun to the game for me. Well done!

The Groth by tharealjohn 2016-01-02T22:22:00

I love the mood and concept of this game. I think the viewport based on speed would be nice. For example, zooming out as you're moving faster. Also, one run, there was a set of 4 green arrows that I accelerated toward the entire game, full thrust, and never got to them. Not sure if it was a glitch or they just spawned REALLY far away. Either way, this game had a great mood and I loved the concept.

Szczypce by Ret44 2015-12-25T03:34:00

I had a blast playing this game. The concept and the graphics were so awesome. It was so cool to have such an insane ship with so many weapons blasting at once, all at smooth frame rate!

After I gathered enough weapons, I was pretty much plowing through everything the game through at me, without even aiming though. Not sure how I'd fix this, whether it be bigger and stronger enemies more quickly, or if it should be harder to get the guns in the first place. Not sure. Not many people seem to have my opinion in the comments though, so it might be just me.

Either way, I was blown away by this entry. Nice job!

Parse The Sky by dustyroom 2015-12-25T03:41:00

What an amazing game. It was a beautiful piece of art, all around. Well done!

Super Lefty Garden Fighty by hexagore 2015-12-15T06:51:00

Damn you gore, of the hexa persuasion. You've done it again. I LOVE the graphics on this one and am super jelly of your custom JS/WebGL engine. You win the internet. Your games always bring me joy, that is all.

Radical Revolver Recoil Rampage by AndreasL 2015-12-19T22:06:00

Such an awesome concept, well done!

SEED by sputnik 2015-12-19T22:35:00

Excellent game concept and level design. This is one of the best entries I've played so far. The difficulty ramps up nicely and it was a lot of fun. You managed to pack a lot of emotion into the character as well. Nice work!

Star Warrior by spolsh 2016-01-03T21:30:00

I agree with the most the other comments regarding this game. The graphics and music are amazing, but the controls and objective of the game miss for me. I think what you did with the controls, since they are limited for the theme, are nice. However, the difficulty of aiming to hit the enemy paired with the difficult controls don't feel like a good mix.

I think if you can take this style, adjust how the enemy behaves and make it easier to hit, along with an indication of how much life it has left, it could be really fun.

I'm still absolutely blown away by the visuals though, so nice work!

Ourobos by SinclairStrange 2015-12-16T06:41:00

Perfect score. I can't believe how much polish and content you packed into 72 hours of dev. Amazing work!

2ButtonsAdventure by Zyow 2016-01-02T22:14:00

I loved the art in this game. I had a little difficulty telling when I was doing which action, and what the benefit of clicking critical vs. just staying attacking was. I'm sure I could see the difference over time, but maybe an explanation of the difference somewhere would help. Nice job!

The Lost Wanderer by The Vall 2015-12-15T06:39:00

Great concept, you guys! I got lost incredibly easy, but it was fun. For noobs like me, I'd love to have something like three breadcrumbs to leave per level. You have to use them wisely and it could be an additional feature to the torch. Nice work!

Star Control by Tortoise 2015-12-30T20:04:00

Hey, I had fun playing your game. I love the art and audio style. The homing missiles were super satisfying.

The difficulty does ramp up pretty fast since your starting weapon is so weak, you can't move fast, and the enemies can dash across the screen. That could just be my opinion, but the difficulty pacing felt weird.

Other than that, I'd love to see an indicator that an enemy is getting hit. Even just a flash of white or something like that. As I am dodging enemy bullets, it's hard to tell if I am hitting anything or not without an indicator in my peripheral vision.

Anyway, it's a solid space shooter and I had fun. Nice work!

SpaceSnake by rplnt 2015-12-31T19:17:00

Nice take on the classic! I had fun playing it. I love the forgiving bounds collision. It was an unexpected and welcome surprise when I was able to save myself.

Some of my concerns have been voiced by others, but I'll repeat them here anyway, in case you're keeping count :)

1. A larger hit box for the food would be nice. Sometimes I could clearly see it overlapping the snake's body, but it wouldn't collect.

2. Even though the tail fade looks nice, it is hard to tell where it ends. Maybe you could keep the fade, but have a particle emitter at the very end of the collision area of the snake's body, so you know exactly where you can cross over. It might look cool too, rainbow particles or something.

3. As a possible addition to the difficulty increase over time, maybe you could start with larger food bits, and have them get smaller and smaller the more you collect. To a point of a course. Then your reaction time and precision need to improve over time as well.

I got up to 39 on classic. Nice job, overall!

Garbage Run by Dege 2015-12-22T05:09:00

Oh Omar, I've failed you. I love the look of this game, nice job :)

Button Betting by torcado 2015-12-28T18:08:00

Brutal difficulty and a matching brutal punishment for messing up. I loved it!

Susception by WolfkingW 2016-01-04T03:17:00

I loved the look of this game and the way the characters move. They are very cute too ;)

Like other's have said though, since there was no map or indication of where my cells were, I kept on losing them. The world was very big and took a while to hit the edge.

Also, the camera following seemed smooth, except for when you are making tight turns. When I do that, it starts to stutter and shake a little bit, like it's locked onto the character too tight.

S - Court by DrFallos 2015-12-21T06:40:00

I love the look of the UI, well done!

Plutonium FREE by gokottastudio 2016-01-02T22:38:00

Nice job! I can tell you put a lot of effort into the shell and supporting art for the game. I especially loved the Springol character.

I think the concept was sound, but there was one thing I'd change: I think the tubes should be positioned at the very end of their respective ramps. This would give more time to react to the recognition of the package. Then, the difficulty could ramp up as usual from there. I just feel like setting it toward the middle how you have it artificially boosts the difficulty initially and there's not as much room to move up from there. It sucks when you see a plutonium package out of your peripheral vision, press the button, only to realize it is already past your tube. If it disappeared out of view right as it passed the tube, then this frustration wouldn't occur. You'd just miss it fair and square.

All in all, I had a great time playing, I think just tweaking some ideas could go far to improve the game. Nice work!

My best score was 16,950.

Grow From Earth by JamesMowery 2015-12-15T06:53:00

Very nicely done! I'm so glad you're getting into game development and can't wait to see what you make in the compos to come.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

A Tale of Two Kings by Ango 2018-04-25T04:35:05Z

I love the artwork, aesthetic, and sound in this game. I think you create a really cool mood with the style. The theme combination is great!

However, I only got to play a little bit, because for some reason there seems to a bug that causes the game to stop running after 4-5 moves or so. No buttons pop up and I am stuck.

The rock paper scissor sequence is really satisfying (albeit frustrating, heh).

Ballermann III: The Expendabuilds by xoidberg 2018-05-01T05:11:12Z

This is a genius concept with a solid execution. The sound design is great and the placing of the pieces is super satisfying.

Just a few critiques here:

- I'd love to be able to right click on a piece to rotate it, and left click on it to shoot it. - This might make it too easy, but I think it might be neat to see a beam of light that shoots straight down to the bottom of the level when you hover over a piece so that you get a better idea of how it lines up. - Along the same lines, it would be cool if the piece you are currently hovering over turned white or had some indicator that you were on it. - Would be nice to have all the text on the bottom fade away after the game starts. It was a little distracting. - I think the piece coming in from both sides is totally fine, and an awesome mechanic, but I think they should each have their own dedicated row so that they don't overlap.

This submission is so cool. I'm jealous of your idea of this hybrid style. Well done!

Xenoperil: You Must Survive by tyranosaw 2018-04-26T05:03:35Z

Well done, team! I love the pairing of the gorgeous pixel art with the music that changes to the mood of each scene. I feel like the game has so much potential to grow from here, if you add more features and iron out some flow issues. I had a hard time figuring out how much my upgrades were helping me, and wanted to see different upgrades for the other resources.

Overall, this game is beautiful and moody and I loved it. Once again, well done!

CityDefense by JOrbits 2018-04-27T05:26:09Z

Gosh, this game is absolutely gorgeous and runs so smooth. Excellent job on the aesthetic and feel! Those explosions are so satisfying to watch.

Just a few minor points of a critique:

- The laser turrets seem to shoot past small enemies slightly. This doesn't affect the logic of the collision at all, but it visually looks like the laser is hitting past the enemy, rather than directly on it. If this is intentional, to show that the laser is going through the enemy, then ignore this. But if not, maybe the laser is firing to where the enemy *was*, rather than the enemy *will be*, which is causing that. - It would be nice if there was a visual indicator that showed what things I can afford to purchase at any given moment. My eyes had to dart left and right a lot to tell what I could or couldn't build. Maybe the buttons are red until you can afford them, and then they turn teal/blue.

Overall, amazingly well done, congrats!

Super Turbo Fishing by funisfun8 2018-05-01T03:20:24Z

This is idea is so clever and well executed! The fishing aspect adds a nice breather to the intense racing. I of course would love to have some sound for this, but I know time is a HUGE constraint, heh. The graphics matched the feel of the game perfectly. Well done!

Just a few critiques/bugs, some were already mentioned that you said you aware of, but I'll just add them all here to give you a complete review. Also, I was on the web version for all of these: - Sometimes I would get stuck at full progress and had to just restart the browser at that point. - The time seems to jump from 00:30:00 to 01:30:00 when it's counting up. - The text alignment for the time caused the text to be pretty shaky and hard to read. Maybe try using a monospace font with the same amount of characters representing the times at all times so that it doesn't jitter.

And for kicks, when I got stuck once, I just let it run for a bit and got this interesting bit of fish art: https://imgur.com/a/es2PzaB

Overall great job. I hope you continue to develop this!

Vinyl Boy by flix 2018-04-26T06:23:51Z

The game looks amazing and has such a cool environment. However, I seem to be having an issue where I can't go up, sprint, and jump at the same time. I can do any other combination (sprint left and jump, sprint right and jump, sprint down and jump, but not up), so I got stuck pretty early. This was on the HTML5 build, so maybe the bug is isolated there?

Tumblenaut by kelbg 2018-05-04T04:58:27Z

I had a great time playing this game! I especially liked the astronaut art and particle system for the thruster. I would have loved to be zoomed out a big more and have the stars parallax slightly to give you a sense of direction. Also, it would be cool if every once in a while you run into asteroids that have a slight magnetic pull that suck you in :) Nice work!

Idle Shooter by NicMagnier 2018-05-01T04:44:42Z

This game is really well done and I had a blast playing it. The juice in this game is so satisfying... the sounds, the screen shake, the cash collection, well done!

I have a few critiques and possible bugs:

- The font for your cash and the upgrades font seems to be pixelated. Not sure if it matters, but I was playing the mac version. - One small gripe, at the beginning, I kept on thinking the "bullets left" indicator was a pause button. This obviously went away, but just a tiny problem at the beginning. - If you wander out of bounds, the game seems to freeze up and you can't get back in. Maybe lock the character to the screen edges. - I love the screen shake in general, but it is difficult to read the upgrade menu when that's happening toward the end. Perhaps play around with keeping the upgrade buttons stationary. - The skull enemies can be hard to see over the diamond loot. Maybe change the color of one of them?

My favorite touch you added though was the black overlay with the time slow down as you hover over the menu. I can think of SO many games that would benefit from this feature. Especially intense fast paced tower defense games.

Overall an incredible submission, great work.

Lost Without You by jackrugile 2018-04-25T04:58:50Z

@CJGladback Thank you for playing and for your feedback! I'm glad you got through the whole game. Yeah, it was tough to find the right balance of difficulty and timing on the characters. Ultimately we ended up making it pretty hard since we only had time to make four levels. I personally find WASD/arrow keys to be less strenuous than a mouse or other control methods, but I guess that just comes down to personal taste. We have plans to add mouse, touch, and gamepad controls in the coming weeks though. Thanks again!

Lost Without You by jackrugile 2018-05-01T05:21:47Z

@joe-zabriskie Thanks for playing! We absolutely agree with you on the more items remark. We ran out of time, but would like to add different light collections types, like campfires and torches, and even add in some enemies to avoid.

@yetman Thanks for the kind words, we're so glad you liked it! We are still getting the tuning of the difficulty right, and we hope that more dynamic level designs with new items to collect will help with the frustration of pure memorization.

@funisfun8 Oh boy, Steam, here we come :) We'd love to get this on there some day. Thank you for your inspiring words.

@ayushman Thanks for playing! Yep, no game engine, but Three.js did all the heavy lifting for rendering. Couldn't have come close to this look without that library, it's so nice.

@honey So glad you enjoyed it! We 100% agree with the firefly snapping. After playing it more, we miss WAY too many fireflies and it is frustrating. The first day, we were playing with no snapping at all and it was complete hell, haha. The levels are not randomly generated, so there is some replaying encouraged to get familiar with the mazes and see if you can find faster routes. We are working on getting some new items in so that it is less frustrating to play and navigate though. Thanks for your feedback!

@hopeen That's an excellent idea! We have so many new ideas for elements to add to the game that we want to explore. We plan on continuing to work on this soon. Thanks for your support!

Lost Without You by jackrugile 2018-05-07T03:09:27Z

@nicmagnier Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed it and got into the maze concept.

@richard-n-silva Thank you! It's an honor to be compared to such respected games. So glad you enjoyed it.

@m-1 We absolutely agree about some sort of indicator that a switch is about to happen. We'd like to find an abstract visual and audio way of doing that. Will look into it. We initially had the lights lower in the world, closer to the characters (how it should be in a real physical space), but we didn't like how much it reduced the visual reach of the lights. We'll have to play with this to get it more physically accurate, but still expanding outward for what we want the player to see. We just played lit and loved it! I can definitely see the similarities. I think it's so cool that your maze is procedurally generated and that the walls go up past the camera. Nice work!

@pennycook Thank you for the compliments, glad you liked it! You're right about the control confusion. The colors we added there are really misleading, now that we look back on it. Apologies for that! We'll need to rethink how we describe those. Ya know, another thing is that we actually never considered that two people might be sharing the keyboard! We always assumed it would be single player, but there is no reason it can't be two player local coop like you said. Will consider this. Thank you!

Celauss - An Epic Realtime CCG Space Battle Game by theslate 2018-04-25T04:25:43Z

This is an awesome concept and feel like the game has a lot of potential. I could totally see you developing a bunch of new planes and attacks. Maybe, even add another resource (other than fuel) that purchases other types of items.

I had fun, but I think the thing that brought this game down a little bit is the level and formation layout. The open sky, head to head battle, symmetry, and lack of dynamic movement and obstacles made it feel a little stale. Since I was always getting attacked head on, that's roughly where I would always place my ships. I didn't really get to use the sides of the level much. If you keep the current landscape orientation, maybe we could fight from left to right to better use the space?

If you decide to take this further, I'm excited to see what you make. Oh yeah, and I LOVE the art for the planes, they look incredible!

Think Before Escape by acoto87 2018-04-26T05:30:15Z

I love the concept and the art! It's really clever and way more difficult than I expected. Well done!

I would love to see the audio explored a little more, since the current set can get a bit repetitive.

CCC: Cyber City CAB by Yetman 2018-04-26T05:16:26Z

The concept and mood of this game are killer, incredibly well done. I'm hoping it's Bruce Willis driving the cab, can you confirm this? :)

My favorite details in the game were the gorgeous parallax layers of the environment and the trails behind the vehicles. Especially the trails on the cop cars, so pretty.

The only thing I would change is to make the red arrows a bit brighter to contrast a bit more with the background, and have their size be relative to their distance. For example, the closest pick ups would be big red arrows, and the ones further away would be smaller.

I do get a little dizzy with the control mechanism where it feels like the map is turning rather than your car, but that is not the fault of the game, or a problem at all. That's just my personal preference and my lousy sensitive brain ;) I'm sure with more practice I'd get used to it.

Last Man Driving by Rewzu 2018-05-04T04:31:57Z

Well done! This was a lot of fun and the world felt really immersive and large. I love the particle effects on the guns, ammo, and car explosions.

Just a few critiques: - The sound effects and lack of music didn't seem to match the pace of the game. I felt really pumped when playing, but the audio didn't reflect that. - The aiming was a little tough. I would love it if the crosshair was locked to your mouse position and you could control the car independently. - Each time I played, it seemed like about half of the cars would end up stuck to the side of the house, and wouldn't fire back at me. Not sure if this is a bug or not. If so, I was playing on the web version, if that matters.

Overall I had a blast playing, nice work!

Deck of the Dead by Balance686 2018-04-25T04:08:34Z

This is a really nice mashup of genres. The matches giving your credits is genius! I love the music and sound effects. They are very appropriate for the zombie theme and create nice suspense and feel.

I would consider making the zombies stand out from the rest of the scene more. Since they don't move very fast, it is hard to tell when they move, because they are green like the trees and blend in a bit out of my peripheral vision.

The jump is not very forgiving, but that just adds to the difficulty :)

At some point in wave 2, the zombies stopped spawning, so I was uncontested while flipping cards. This might be a bug you should look into.

If you develop this further, I think it would be rad to have super detailed and stylized concept art of gross zombies on all the cards :)

Well done!

BallRunner by Sode 2018-04-25T06:02:07Z

Congrats on your game submission! So happy for you and your choice get into game development. It's a long and challenging road, but well worth it!

I like the concept of your game and encourage to keep on working at it. I think sphere physics are super fun to play with and you can make some fun scenarios. I used to play with marbles a lot as a kid and I would build structures to drop them down and see where they landed and which routes they took. I could definitely see your game having similar concepts.

Like others have said, some instructions in the game would help and the ability to explore to the entire map would make things more exciting.

Nice work and keep it up!

Silence of the Chickens by Tayfun 2018-04-25T06:25:38Z

The concept and the art on this one is top notch, I love it! As others have said, some feedback on getting hit or hitting things would make it feel a little better. The controls felt a little awkward, since it was tough to tell when my turn would end (if I didn't shoot). I think this game has potential. Nice work!

A journey of the block by TomekS 2018-04-25T07:25:28Z

The visuals here are absolutely gorgeous. It took me a bit to figure out how to build a piece, but eventually got it. Well done!

GO AT IT by CJGladback 2018-04-25T05:12:34Z

I dig the title of this game, so clever, well done! The aesthetic is super appealing and I love the foggy look. I got a kick out of the dev comments below the main game area, heh.

The game runs great and seems to all be in working order, the only thing I would change is to have it be more clear how far the goat's light extends. The gradient fade out looks nice for a light, but then I don't have a good idea of how close I can get while facing the goat. Oh, and this goes without saying, but I want more levels! :)

And, this game has the best logo I've seen so far. Great color palette and design. Well done!

Click for Speed by Borodar 2018-05-01T05:01:01Z

I was absolutely blown away by the polish on this game, in all categories. You really know your game dev craft and you've created an amazing experience here.

This is an awesome concept! I wish I had some more players with me, but my girlfriend got on and helped me with some puzzles :)

I was so happy to find someone else using Three.js for their submission. You're the first other one I have found!

I need to do some more research on web sockets. Thanks for inspiring me.

Math Blast! by Joe Zabriskie 2018-04-25T04:49:57Z

Excellent job on the combination of genres! I would have liked a game like this in school. Or, an MMORPG that taught math would be best, World of Mathcraft or something, haha. I love the retro arcade graphics and the homemade sounds.

The bullets coming from the enemies were a little hard to see for me. Maybe darken the stars a bit and brighten up the bullets? I also kept on running into the issue where the next level would spawn while I still had my own bullet in the level and I would inadvertently hit a number right as it spawned. Maybe block shooting for a moment while the level fully resets and spawns.

I love the concept and found it very challenging and fun. Nice work!

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-04-27T04:38:07Z

Amazing job on this! The concept was extremely clever and executed perfectly. I saw a gif of this game and though, "oh god, this looks like absolute frustrating torture", but it wasn't at all! The game played smoothly and felt fluid. I felt like I got in the kind of flow that you get when you have really good game feel in a more traditional platform. The controls were super tight and responsive and I felt powerful with my keyboard. Absolutely incredible.

The only critique I have is that the music wasn't quite my taste and got repetitive very quickly. This of course could just be my taste though. Not a huge deal though because the rest of the game was absolutely amazing. Well done!

Incompatible Rally by Wassim 2018-04-27T04:22:20Z

Amazing job on the presentation and polish on this game, especially on the intro and menu. Definitely the most work I've seen put into a LD game in those sections! The concept was really clever and I had a lot of fun. Like most LD games, I wish there were more levels, but I know that was a just a byproduct of the time constraint, so keep up the dev on this one!

Some things I would change or look into personally, would be:

- Some others have said it, but the car feels a bit floaty, like it has no weight. Maybe play around with the physics a bit to strike a balance between a car feel and the responsiveness of a platformer character. - I accidentally jumped over the finish line and fell of the map and lost the race. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but I felt like that shouldn't happen.

Overall, well done!

Catchinko by Team Yarn 2018-05-03T05:40:47Z

Very cute and entertaining game! Only two critiques from me:

- Some times the yarn text in the top left is tough to read. Maybe put a light colored panel behind it, or give it a light colored stroke for readability. - The camera is pretty rigidly locked to the character. This can get jarring when going through the gauntlets. Maybe smooth out the camera a bit so it is not a 1:1 lock on the character.

Nice work!
