LD26 — Minimalism

Scout Droid Bravo 325 Jr by Mark Hildreth 2013-05-01T00:02:00

Funniest entry I have played so far! The combination of the lighthearted tone and interesting, quirky characters mixed together well with the simple puzzles to give the whole thing a very "adventure game" feel.

One suggestion: Only advance the text upon initial detection of key down, rather than continuing to do so while the player is holding the button down. I accidentally skipped past some of the dialog at first, which was a shame given the quality of your writing. :)

MINUS by rubna 2013-05-02T19:20:00

I think this prototype is much more promising than you give yourself credit for. I haven't played anything quite like it before, and yet I was able to figure out what needed to be done with no instructions at all (I accidentally skipped over the "get the balls in the hole" bit of your text and only saw it after I was done playing). You're on to something here. Don't give up!

Distradiction by shines 2013-05-01T01:31:00

Short but sweet, and I think the brevity is appropriate given the minimalism theme. I always like the idea of trying to represent a concept or point of view via dynamic behavior and interactive rules, and this serves as a concise example of such techniques.

I do wonder if the explanation sentences are maybe just a bit too explicit about what's going on? This is just personal preference, but I think I would prefer text that left a little more space for my own interpretations while still hinting at the theme. Overall, nice work!

Sociales Santillana by Ithildin 2013-04-30T23:26:00

Once I got the hang of it, this was great fun! Fantastic work incorporating the theme and using it as inspiration to create something fresh and engaging.

IN MALI SOMMI by Capro 2013-05-01T01:55:00

I really enjoyed the audio for your entry. Good work!

Tactical Spreadsheet by atrodo 2013-05-01T12:18:00

Amusing use of theme. Actually playing it felt a bit too close to my day job to really be "fun", but I think that's probably a sign that the concept was successfully executed. ;)

hekeri by kunzbe 2013-04-30T23:42:00

Apologies for simply echoing the sentiments of so many others, but I also found this game pleasantly confusing. There is definitely potential here for a fascinating mechanic, I think it just needs a bit more polish to be made at least slightly more comprehensible. Then again, the confusion almost feels like it improves the experience somehow, so maybe perfect clarity wouldn't be suitable for what you're trying to accomplish?

Integrate by Bloated Hippo 2013-05-01T20:17:00

This is strangely hypnotic. Nice job keeping things simple while still providing a fun experience!

Dodge by Copix 2013-05-01T12:25:00

The game had a really cute vibe. I liked the music and (as others have said) the walking animation, which was silly in the best way possible. It kind of looked like he was doing that Russian sitting dance ("Prisyadki", I think it's called?)

Colors by oyster_crusher 2013-04-30T21:20:00

A great, simple concept that fits the theme well. Nicely done!

Mini Space Adventure by jacintosan 2013-05-01T17:12:00

Controlling the ship itself felt smooth, but for some reason pressing spacebar seemed to only sporadically produce a response. :(

Pixel Arena by Curlystraw 2013-05-01T00:34:00

I can definitely see this developing into something even more interesting in the future, after the concept has spent just a little more time in the oven. You have a strong basis for expansion here with the control mechanism and the swarm behavior, I think the actual implementation just needs a little more refinement to really find the fun.

Up To You by PapaGrimbles 2013-05-02T21:17:00

Great job with the theme. You managed to make something extremely fun out of the most basic elements. Impressive! :)

MiniQix by Wiering 2013-04-30T21:30:00

I've always liked Qix and this is decent implementation, but I would have preferred if you had tried to put some kind of unique spin on the formula.

Improbable by mokesmoe 2013-04-30T23:08:00

At first I was put off by aspects of the structure, particularly having to keep clicking through a bunch of links just to reveal the next short text portion in sequences that seemed completely linear.

But as I went on, I actually felt that this worked well with the fast pace of the narrative you were telling. The idea of hiding additional thoughts and details behind hyperlinks was an interesting choice, and fit well with the minimalist theme.

Gardener in Minimalism Spring by tcstyle 2013-04-30T22:06:00

Enjoyable! The ambient sound really contributes to the relaxing vibe. I had the same problem as others with not fully comprehending the mechanics, but it was soothing just to play around.

As a game (rather than just a zen "experience") I do think it would work better if it was clear what plant was coming next. Did I miss something, or is there really no way to tell?

Meat Meets Potatoes by Jacic 2013-04-30T22:29:00

The addition of a projectile makes for an interesting (if slight) variation to the endless runner format. I wasn't a huge fan of the tiny "ridges" in the platforms, found myself getting caught on them a lot. Then again, it's worth noting that I am a big baby who is generally terrible at endless runners.

Trapped by Hopps 2013-04-30T20:16:00

The riddle was cute, and the interaction with the other character was also amusing. I could have done without the maze part, personally - didn't think it added much to the experience.

Flee: The Daily Adventures of a Springtail by Goodlookinguy 2013-04-30T22:44:00

I had fun with this, despite getting squished many times! Nice job.

Some of the obstacles, like the bug that crawls along the ground, appear a little abruptly and were quite tough to react quickly enough to avoid.

Also, the color of the springtail and the background could use a little more contrast - it's tough to see the springtail when jumping.

Minimalist Moe by davidwparker 2013-05-01T12:11:00

I enjoyed this - nice job providing a quick burst of frantic fun. ^_^

I actually started to write a comment saying "nice touch on making Moe's eyes move along with the mouse", then I played again and realized that this didn't happen at all and was just a weird optical illusion caused by only looking at Moe's face from the corner of my eye while focusing on the incoming shapes. Creepy!

Chehc by mipi 2013-05-01T17:30:00

Great concept. I like the idea of swapping the instruction order as a mechanic. I could definitely picture this concept being extensible, with the possibility of introducing more complex sets of prerequisites and state logic as the game progresses (kind of like taking the Gambit system from FFXII and using it in a puzzle game context instead of RPG combat). Excellent work!

Everyone Together by aeveis 2013-05-02T22:30:00

Wonderful work! It reminded me a bit of Denki Blocks on a purely mechanical level, but with quite a few unique additions. I really like the thematic layer you wrapped everything up in, and the way the accompanying text worked as both hints and as metaphorical "seasoning".

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Waffle Warrior by Super Hamster 2015-05-05T01:10:00

Tough but fair - like Dark Souls, but superior because it had waffles.

Star Power by NickMakesGames 2015-05-12T00:53:00

I really like the central idea, and I think you have a strong foundation here that you could expand in lots of interesting directions. The cumulative factor of low ratings providing motivation for enemies to improve themselves and come back stronger is especially intriguing. I could see it lending itself well to an accompanying story, with ongoing rivalries and enemies that would remember and comment on how you underrated them in the past and now they've returned to settle the score. Nice work! ^_^

Rage the Stage by puppetmaster 2015-04-28T01:35:00

Cool idea, but I encountered a lot of framerate issues that reduced my enjoyment and filled me with RAGE!

Frazzle Dazzle by hexdie 2015-05-06T03:32:00

Cool cool cool game! Trying to perform precise double jumps and hovering maneuvers using just the arrow keys was difficult at times, but overall I had a lot of fun. ^_^

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-05-01T01:18:00

Nice simulation of tabletop roleplaying with a passive-aggressive GM. ;)

Death By A What!? by Murchurl 2015-04-24T01:30:00

Not really my sense of humor, but the audio and visuals were well done.

Corrugated Fidelity by Os_Reboot 2015-04-24T00:27:00

Super fun! Really nice job with the interface - you managed to convey the concepts in a really intuitive way.

EXECUTION by stray 2015-04-24T03:26:00

Great mood and graphics, but the central concept feels like really well worn territory and I found it to be too heavy-handed in how it presented the "message" of the game.

Super SALT Helmet by DarkwindMedia 2015-04-24T01:08:00

This game was an absolute blast to play! Loved the presentation - it felt really polished and super cute.

Adaptation by Grahhhhh 2015-05-07T02:28:00

Fun and frantic! I really like the idea of becoming more powerful as you get closer to death, and it creates a nice risk/reward element where I was required to act strategically instead of relying purely on my reflexes to carry me through.

I wish coins spawned a bit more frequently, but that might unbalance things since the superpowers are so powerful. Nice work overall! Feedback concluded. ^_^

My Voice is My Weapon by Forlorn79 2015-05-07T02:04:00

I love the voice synthesis and customization options, the idea of getting lost in the crowd, and the way that your followers start to wander away if you don't actively keep their attention and keep reminding them of the cause. Nice entry!

Attractor by CireNeikual 2015-04-24T02:33:00

I loved this. Just curious - what are the different factors that are being evaluated as part of the fitness function for the enemies?

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

become a game developer in 60 seconds by unprompted 2016-01-02T18:10:00

Nice implementation of an amusing concept. ^_^

Enliven by Patacorow 2016-01-04T05:11:00

It's a good game, and it definitely has the potential to be a great game with just a little tuning to the mechanics and level design.

Certain aspects of it felt extremely unforgiving to me - the rapid movement of the growing vine combined with the extremely short jump height was especially aggravating. Something about the constant restarting led to a sense of frustration that didn't really fit with the mellow atmosphere of the game. Maybe a checkpoint system would help?

Still, it's a really solid entry and the balance issues are understandable given the time constraints.

MaskGarden by barcode 2016-01-02T19:38:00

This is great! I really like the environment. I wish I could at least rate this entry in the mood category, because it definitely excels at creating a memorable atmosphere.

Care by Marcos Rodrigues 2016-01-02T23:55:00

This is adorable and I think it's a really solid and unique design. Nice work!

PlantGrow by Muffinhat 2016-01-02T21:32:00

I found this really soothing to play. Nice job!

Let's Grow Mr. Bubbo by tigerrenko 2016-01-03T00:11:00

Educational! Where can I order my Bubbo Boy merch?

This Little Piggy by ruthiepee 2016-01-04T06:29:00

This little piggy had fun!

The Regrowth of Layeon by Ampera 2016-01-02T20:28:00

Nice work, Ampera! Seems like you have a really solid foundation here - I'm impressed at how much you were able to get done in such a short time. I like the description of the setting as well. Looking forward to seeing where you take this next.

My only suggestion is that it would be a bit easier to play if you standardize the verbs. For example, instead of requiring players to type "look around" in one area and "inspect" in another to perform a similar type of action, provide a fixed set of commands and keep them consistent.

Super Keegan by davidcmcdonald 2016-01-02T23:47:00

Everything about this is peppy and cheerful in the best way possible. I don't know if it's intentional, but I love that you can still try to play after the "Game Over" text appears. Nothing can stop Super Keegan!

Pikki by RockhopperGames 2016-01-03T00:26:00

I was pretty confused for the entire first section, but I was still thoroughly enjoying the experience. It was fun to just randomly click the buttons while trying to discern what the choices actually did. Once the game moved into a more recognizable context, it was actually slightly less intriguing. I liked the sense of mystery I felt before I figured out what was going on! But it was still fun to see the results: "You're a squid now!" ;)

Growing Up by gelisam 2016-01-03T04:15:00

The art is gorgeous. The game is decent, but the collision box locations are not intuitive and that made it a frustrating experience at times.

Continental Breakfast by Brightstar 2016-01-01T15:01:00

I really enjoyed the writing! It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me hungry.

Egggs by simon.parzer 2016-01-04T04:44:00

Strangely hypnotic!

SWOOP/POOP by Foofanoo42 2016-01-04T04:12:00

Super fun! I always enjoyed doing the bombing runs in games like U.N. Squadron and Sopwith, but this was even more amusing because of the funny theme and the well designed controls.

No Birds In This Game by Grahhhhh 2016-01-02T21:03:00

Good job! I like the concept, and I thought the presentation was solid as well.

I also really appreciate the lack of birds in this game. Many games will *claim* to be bird-free, but as soon as you get a few hours in and you're thoroughly invested, lo and behold: birds suddenly start to appear EVERYWHERE. It's really a shame, and I'm so thankful for small indie games like this one that can take a different and (dare I say) more personal approach. Kudos to you for having the courage to stand by your convictions rather than simply taking the easy route and pandering to the "all birds all the time" mainstream audience, as most AAA game studios would have done in this situation.

Decider in Chief by Forlorn79 2016-01-01T15:15:00

Nice work! I really liked the amount of variation in the different branches and endings.

Line/Dash by Eingya 2016-01-02T22:38:00

Really fantastic concept. My first thought after grasping the controls was "I wish I had thought of this," and when your game makes other designers feel jealous that's usually a good sign. ;)

Chicken Spin by RSquarStudios 2016-01-02T23:33:00

So much fun! I love the idea of using the trees as shields if you can't reach the raindrop with your chicken. It makes the game much more exciting, and introduces a nice element of risk.

Sentient Sewage by blakeohare 2016-01-03T02:27:00

Impressive implementation of a unique concept, with some hilarious writing thrown in as a bonus. One of my favorite entries so far!

Comfort Owl by Norbez 2016-01-02T21:58:00

Well, this is delightful. I stumbled onto it randomly, and while I was playing it I remembered that I also played and enjoyed your "HCF" game from Twiny Jam. Quite a contrast in tones between HCF and this, which really demonstrates your versatility as a writer. In both cases, I really like the way you end your stories with explicit questions that prompt the player to consider or imagine additional details on their own.

FRUITWOLF by Claw 2016-01-04T06:13:00

This is one of the best entries I have played when it comes to creating a memorable mood and atmosphere. Loved the ending as well.

LD36 — Ancient Technology

MOTHERSHIP by fabsy 2016-09-03T00:41:00

I like the look and feel of the UI. The gameplay seems like a solid foundation to build on, and I hope you keep developing it and adding some additional depth to the simulation.

Blocky Hill by SweatyChair 2016-09-14T03:02:00

Whoa, this is impressive! Nice progression of difficulty, beautiful animations and an overall fun and intense experience. The art style could perhaps be a little more cohesive, but I also find the variation really charming.

Cryptoglyphics by Bogden 2016-09-03T03:45:00

Fun fun fun! The one-word puzzles were a bit too difficult, but other than that I really enjoyed the challenge level.

The Operator by ForeignGuyMike 2016-09-03T00:18:00

Fun premise, and a great presentation!

CRTs are Ancient, right? by CliffracerX 2016-09-14T00:50:00

This game is THE BEST! Easily my favorite of all the entries I have played so far. Don't listen to anyone that tells you to change it - everything is perfect just the way it is. ^_^

Nomore by djfariel 2016-09-14T20:49:00

Stressful at times, but lots of fun overall! It reminded me of a Treasure game in all the best ways.

Kvetch-A-Sketch by mooncalf 2016-09-03T03:43:00

This is glorious. ^_^

Blunderbuss by Steven Miller 2016-09-03T04:16:00

A cool idea combined with some hilarious writing. Nice work!

Hero of Alexandria by Drury 2016-09-03T01:09:00

Nice work! I really like the art style. I want to jump on the phalanx.

Curious Dinos by RafaSKB 2016-09-14T01:50:00

Fun concept, and gorgeous art! ^_^

LD45 — Start with nothing

Uballto by Omiya Games 2019-10-15T01:06:19Z

I had a ball with this! :soccer: Another great entry - really impressive in terms of both concept and execution.

It seemed like there were multiple solutions for many of the levels, and finding my own approach felt rewarding. The design feels like it would lend itself well to having lots of optional hidden paths and Easter eggs. I would love to see the game expanded with additional types of environmental features.

Buried Things by Skyeward 2019-10-13T22:22:49Z

Had an absolute blast playing this on stream. This is my current favorite entry from this iteration of Ludum Dare. Loved everything about it. I rate it 62 out of 62. Great job!

The Greatest Game in the World by AhmenX 2019-10-13T21:32:21Z

Love the game description. I hope that Dave has a strong support system in place, and that he's able to work through some of his anger. Wish ya the best, Dave!

Primordial by Muse en Lystrala 2019-10-14T21:59:01Z

Nice writing and character designs! I appreciate that you chose a creation myth as the concept for your first solo game project. Feels appropriate. :milky_way:

If you decide to add more interactive elements, it feels like there's ample opportunity to allow players to take a more active role in the process of creation. The context of creating new life/planets/concepts could provide players with a variety of interesting and expressive choices to make. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how you develop this project in the future! :star:

Kawhatzithon by AllBetsAreOff 2019-10-15T00:33:55Z

A hoarder's dream come true! I liked the cluttered environment, and the presentation of the player's trinket tally at the end. I had at least as much fun playing this as I did wading through other compulsive collect-a-thons like Donkey Kong 64 and Star Fox Adventures. I award this game a score of 10 whatsits out of 10.

HONK by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2019-10-13T21:14:05Z

Nice art and audio. Impressive amount of feedback and polish. This duck is juicy!
