LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Dematerializer Ultra by Freel4tte 2015-04-20T05:05:00

790 credits! 100 years of prosperity! Nice!
Excellent sound design and well thought-out mechanics. It felt a little like Seas of Scred and a little like Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, both of which are great, so nice job! And you're right, it is unforgiving. A practice in patience, really. :) I felt that it lacked a sense of progress - once I saw the inventory was scrolling I wasn't sure if I was progressing or just filling up until I died.

RELIC by CptDustmite 2015-04-24T02:08:00

Love the atmosphere and the story!

Beats High Mountains Down by Galan 2015-04-20T18:29:00

Hmm, it kept crashing right after the Godot splash screen when I tried to move the mouse or click.

In for a pound by JonathanG 2015-04-24T01:10:00

Very nice. It's got solid gameplay and great atmosphere. The name is what gets me, though. In for a Pound. Gosh. :)

Randomsmith by Catman 2015-04-20T16:53:00

Very silly. Basically my day job.

Ring Retorter by zatyka 2015-04-24T00:19:00

Very well done. Nothing wrong with borrowing from the greats. Didn't love the use of the word bitch - seemed unnecessary and needlessly vulgar. Obviously what words you use is up to you, but I was sorta in Monkey Island mode, so I was expecting that pg rating :)

Stop the Goblin Army by rhill 2015-04-20T18:27:00

139! Very fun. Car controls exactly the way I expect it to. Strangely satisfying to knock over the gobpins.

DAGDROM by Ditto 2015-04-20T22:12:00

Had a really nice Floor is Jelly vibe to it!

Sss by Esenti 2015-04-20T18:30:00

Clever idea, and well-executed. It's simple, but it does everything it needs to.

AAAVVV by Tavrox 2015-04-20T04:46:00

Very nice. I just finished replaying VVVVVV on my phone post-humble-bundle, so I'm digging it. Music works well, too.

LUV GUN by Andrew Adams 2015-04-20T18:35:00

4950! Took me forever to figure out that I can move as well as aim :) Love those tank controls. Surprisingly bloody - hasn't anyone heard of crosswalks?

Head Sword Ninja by junt74 2015-04-20T21:43:00

Those quivering legs ... :D

Ghost 39 by nurabsal 2015-04-23T01:31:00

I like the cheery music and the bodies scattered over the floor. The color palette is excellent, as is the art in general (though I could do with more contrast between foreground and background). Quite fun to play, though very difficult, in true bullet hell style :)

Throw them out! by shatty 2015-04-20T19:14:00

Phew, that's stressful! Quite difficult as well. I spent a whole round banging on the door trying to figure out what to do, and then I read the title. :)

Gravity Redux by Elforama 2015-04-23T00:14:00

Short and sweet. An excellent mechanic - took me a moment to figure it out (I kept trying to click and drag), but once I got the hang of it, I was very engaged. I could see it working really well as a mobile game as well (tap or double tap, or something?). Nicely done!

Mystical Youth Amy by NIGIC 2015-04-20T05:55:00

The weapon has a really solid feel to it - the sound effects and explosions make it really fun to use. Nicely done! Kept me engaged longer than most shmups.

The Warlock by Rothens 2015-04-23T00:18:00

I walked around for a while, but couldn't seem to find anything or do anything else ... that said, I like the walk animation and was excited to play more.

Mirror Mirror by Kevlanche 2015-04-20T19:35:00

Nicely done! Excellent graphics and intuitive and complex gameplay!

Mystic Stickup by Beardo Games 2015-04-23T01:17:00

Haha, very clever. Makes me wish my

Butterfly Effect by bluberry 2015-04-23T00:21:00

Okay, that was awesome. Literally laughed out loud multiple times. Excellent timing.

SSZB - Save the soul of Zlaya babka(evil old lady) by CAT_IN_THE_DARK_WOOD 2015-04-20T20:16:00

Where does she get all those TVs? :)

Holy Sheeit by SuperSquareBoy 2015-04-23T00:23:00

Controls were a little wonky (I kept trying to move sideways), but otherwise the gameplay was solid. I liked the enemy death animations. The multiplier had a very geometry wars feel to it, which is a good thing as well. :)

Lazy Hack & Slash by jackolondon 2015-04-23T00:32:00

Yeah, don't be sad! You've got a solid base here and a really good idea. If you've got the will, you could totally expand this (I could see it working super well on mobile!) Also, set filter mode to "point" in your texture import settings to get clean pixel sprites :)

Bottle Bash by isaaccarpenter 2015-04-23T00:28:00

Very nice level art!

Stop! In The Name Of The Law! by Slashee the Cow 2015-04-23T00:26:00

Nice. Very clever execution of theme, solid gameplay. A lost the case :) And is that music generated with otomata that I hear?

Social Sass by abcdef65g 2015-04-23T00:40:00

I love the battle mechanic. It's really clever, and all the added hash tags on the battle chirps ... so funny. :)

Tungsten Orbital Destroyer by runvs 2015-04-20T17:45:00

This is why we can't have giant laser satellites. Thanks, James Bond.
I liked it a lot. Movement on the sphere was very intuitive, which I could see it not being. Graphics were awesome. I think the problem you were running into with the webplayer is Unity's default quality settings for webplayer, which is set to fastest. You can change those in Edit > Project Settings > Quality.

It Came From The Sea by adamwfindlay 2015-04-23T00:37:00

That's great. Quite fun. I love the monster building screen - some excellent and funny choices. Visuals are crisp. It was a little hard to tell what was hurting me, but it was very fun to destroy buildings and fire trucks.

Revenge of the Clones by BraindeadGeo 2015-04-24T02:13:00

I love the way it scans through the level you've just beaten. And the fountains of blood, of course.

Udom Nebdon by pLaw 2015-04-20T20:38:00

Wow, that is spooky! Also, amazing graphics and a true recreation of the feel of Alone in the Dark. Nicely done.

You're a Sorting Hat, Harry! by NoTrueSpaceman 2015-04-23T00:46:00

I also love the house name generator. I'd really like to play this as a full game :)

Misspelled Zombies by ivan.moay 2015-04-23T00:49:00

Wow, that's actually a pretty great way to teach spelling. It was very tough to switch back and forth between mouse and keyboard, but otherwise, this was very solid. Excellently done.

Clarinetto by strawfield 2015-04-20T17:01:00

Wait, so who did I find in the woods?!

Ludicrous Battleaxes by muumeroinen 2015-04-20T17:48:00

Gold medal! Awesome idea - it really makes you think as you're moving around. I bet multiplayer would be fun :) Also, I like how you're not just a watermelon, but a watermelon with flailing axe arms.

I'm sorry, I'm jealous by igoramendola 2015-04-23T01:26:00

Clever gameplay, though the petty jealousy plot left a lot to be desired :)

Zolf by Chris Mondok 2015-04-23T00:55:00

This is fun. Couldn't figure out how to kill zombies (I kept expecting the golf ball to do it, but it didn't seem to), but I really like the concept. Quite hard, especially when the ball gets caught on a wall or in a corner.

Street Of Disrespect by schizokoa 2015-04-23T00:57:00

Very cool concept, though it made me a little uncomfortable to play. Maybe that's the point?

Backfire by Jean Phenix 2015-04-23T00:59:00

I agree that it was tricky to figure out how to play at first, but it's a cool mechanic that I've not seen anywhere else.

Super Recoil Gun by cleitoneldorn 2015-04-20T05:46:00

Wow, that's hard. Or maybe I'm tired post-compo ... either way, nicely done!

No Light Without Dark by Volvary 2015-04-20T18:40:00

At first, I killed three, and I was like "oh, this is easy". And then like 40 of them started coming at me. It got my heart going!

Loquacious Lepus by Lacaranian 2015-04-20T20:50:00

That music. That's awesome!
Nice job. I like the bears especially!

Ion cannon by umb16 2015-04-20T20:23:00

Wow, excellent design. It really takes a lot of thought, and the difficulty curve was well constructed as well!

Mortpuno by Celt 2015-04-23T02:26:00

Wow, THAT made me uncomfortable ...

France is Bacon by KirbiKaka 2015-04-23T01:07:00

This is really great. Excellent execution of them, wonderful art, and (as a frequent user of incompetech), very familiar music :)

Beep Boop by CJ K 2015-04-20T19:42:00

Wow, brilliantly designed. The way that you make each area impassible until you figure out a new way to use the bubbles, and then you have to use that technique from then on! EXCELLENT level construction and difficulty curve.

Avenging My Gran, the Famed Botanist by Chris M 2015-04-20T19:48:00

Gran! Those darn shrubs. Excellent use of puzzlescript. and, of course, I loved the story. "Killed, just like my gran!"

NEG [controller req] by JoshDBB 2015-04-24T01:02:00

Feels like N+ in multiplayer mode, which is awesome :)

Driven Insane by AAGH Games 2015-04-20T19:06:00

I wouldn't say that he made it to work SAFELY, per se. :) Interesting idea, and solid execution. Good audio as well.

Absorption Demo by smagee 2015-04-20T17:07:00

I got the same missing dll error as well (Windows 7)

The Messenger by Mossy Frog 2015-04-20T05:35:00

I see what you did there. Very clever.
I'd opt for a higher contrast between background and foreground elements, as it was a little difficult to tell what I was jumping on at a few points. Nicely done!

Rage the Stage by puppetmaster 2015-04-20T19:49:00

same here, the link is broken :)

Frazzle Dazzle by hexdie 2015-04-24T00:11:00

Awesome. Loved the gameplay - solid and fluid. Tutorials were excellently embedded - I barely noticed I was learning from them. Music and sound effects all used excellently.

Flail Rider by jushii 2015-04-20T20:35:00

Phew, that is hard! Realistic, too! Well, in the sense that your car will be wrecked if you run into just one pesky building. The giant flail was slightly less realistic. My car's flail is nowhere near that big. :)

Bonfires by Ivan Sukhanov 2015-04-24T00:33:00

I wow, I'm really enjoying this. Yes, I'd love to play the full version. Most game get by on atmosphere HALF this good.

Eternal Forklift by ragtagradical 2015-04-20T19:07:00

Hmm, couldn't get past the title screen either. I only had two controllers plugged in, though, which may be why?

SHiFT by Fanttum 2015-04-21T02:14:00

Clever - I like how you use the gravity switching mechanic as a weapon. Wouldn't have thought of that, certainly. And I agree that it borrows from vvvvvv, but I really like that you can switch in mid-air, something I always tried to do in vvvvvv but couldn't. Nicely dev'd!

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-04-22T20:12:00

Haha, yep, jumping off the parapet early is a problem I've run into before. I ran into it a couple times during testing, but I guess crazy people who jump off of balconies at sneaky times can manage to kill the invisible queen. :) I'll have to make that a secret ending for the post-jam version. "Uh, the bombmaker managed to survive a hundred foot fall, scrambled onto the empty balcony, and further subverted the gamemaker's expectations by killing the invisible queen - who was the REAL villian, pulling the strings all along! Uh, good job, bombmaker. Very, erm, clever, I guess." Achievement Name: Invisi-Queen, the Puppetmaster

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-04-23T02:09:00

Yep, the voice acting was me as well. Besides game development, that's another dream of mine :)

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-04-23T03:20:00

Aw geez, I figured no one would see that palm tree! I mostly left it because I thought it was funny!

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-04-23T18:49:00

I anticipated that it would start to feel a little tedious walking everywhere, but I tried my best to time the audio trigger zones so that there wouldn't be huge silence times. If the player is able to sprint, then we'd have a lot of clips cutting each other off. I guess that wouldn't be the worst thing, but I couldn't think of a more elegant solution.

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-05-10T18:59:00

Yep, I didn't make the trigger zones big enough, so that was something I fixed in the post-compo version (I think, at least).

Bomb bringer by SMASH BASH 2015-04-24T02:19:00

I love the altitude mutliplier. Made it way harder because I was going for 5.0!

Robot Restores Nature by shrapx 2015-04-20T17:13:00

Wow, that was surprisingly beautiful. Love the way the plants grow and change. Sound fits really well, too.

Armory of W.A.T. by dallonf 2015-04-24T01:21:00

Oh, a gun that fires guns! Oh, I can fire it a lot all at once! Haha, I'll just do that and win easily!
...
Oh, right. Guns fire bullets.
[dies]

Squid Gun by immefrank 2015-04-20T17:16:00

Cleverly done. Steep difficulty curve. I like the graphics - the bright colors are very nice.

The Earl's Owl by Yazara 2015-04-20T17:28:00

I love the way the owl looks! Those eyes! Very clever concept. Haven't really seen anything like this before.

A Bug's Death by Coomzy 2015-04-20T19:04:00

I feel like a terrible person now. :) Nicely done.

Tic-Tac-Blow by Bardikus 2015-04-20T17:31:00

Cool. Took me a bit to figure it out, but it's a clever design, and well implemented. :)

Charged With a Mission by incobalt 2015-04-20T17:24:00

Had a very jazzpunk vibe to it. I was a little unclear as to what exactly it was that I did to the character at the end ... :)

Sunlight Puzzle by lxem 2015-04-20T17:37:00

What a clever puzzle game idea. It was really twisting my brain around. Nothing like it.

Ballsack Battle by jejevi 2015-04-20T17:40:00

What the heck. I love it. My, um, balls got all twisted up. :)

Cube Invaders 32 by cachila4408 2015-04-20T17:53:00

Haha, that last guy was MAD! Clever idea. It was made more difficult by the cursor resetting to center after every shot, instead of staying in the same place (A holdover from tetris as opposed to Space invaders, so I can see why you did it, though I ended up just using the space key as a fire button)

Tactical Module Circullation Device by Deal With It 2015-04-20T18:20:00

Phew, that is very tough! I like the idea - feels a tiny bit like Super Crate Box.

TraGun by Morten 2015-04-20T18:01:00

Clever concept. Excellent graphics. Very challenging. A little buggy as well - I moved the left panel in the tutorial room too far to the left and I thought I'd found a hidden room, but I fell out of the world. Also I couldn't aim up and down at first (with mouse or gamepad) and when I restarted, my player was upside down (but I could move and aim, just with controls reversed). Anyway, I really like it. Keep it up!

Wired In by hardband 2015-04-20T18:04:00

Neat. Geometry Wars meets ... uh, Spiderman, I guess. Thanks for the epileptic-friendly mode!

GearTech0 - Daquaris Chadwick by geartech0 2015-04-20T18:23:00

Love the music! That's awesome! It's a clever idea, but with a stiff learning curve. Never really seen anything like it, though. Kinda like tower defense, kinda not. :)

Granny Hates Cats by Newan 2015-04-20T19:59:00

Very funny, and fun once I got the hang of it. I was just freezing them at first, and then I right clicked. SO MUCH CAT BLOOD!

KittySwarm by Fitscat 2015-04-20T20:02:00

Quite fun. I really liked the environment art (love that parallax) and the scared wolf sprite. :) I also liked seeing the kitties roll around crazily after hitting something :)

Floats by Horsed 2015-04-23T02:59:00

holy heck that gets hard. I actually liked it a bit more than rymdkapsel.

Tongue Lash by benjamck 2015-04-21T02:19:00

Well, that is terrifying. Really nicely done - excellent animation, fitting audio, and very engaging level design. The slight cracks you're getting around the sides of your skybox - those I think can be fixed by tweaking your skybox import settings. Try changing mapping, fixup edge seams, and the filter mode. Nice job!

Snowball's Chance by MasterOfNaN 2015-04-23T01:13:00

Woohoo! Survived the night! A lot of really excellent design decisions. Enemies carrying fire and shrinking (and thus becoming harder to kill), the snowball/size relationship, and the snow and the ground getting rolled up - I especially like this last one. Besides the excellent shader work, it really challenges you to try different routes around the level and the feeling of anxiety increases.

Space Cowboy by JK5000 2015-04-20T06:02:00

I love the mouth-sounds! I had like that same wind one in mine! I had a little trouble figuring out what I was supposed to do, and kept failing for reasons I couldn't understand. What do they say when they slump over?

Bribe Them by DouglasOliveira 2015-04-24T01:53:00

Wow, that was a lot more fun that I thought it would be at first. I mean, my clicking finger is tired, but that was stressful and fun. Idea - each function could be mapped to a keyboard key, but the game would only allow you to press one at a time? Just to avoid clicker-finger fatigue!

Kitten Defense by Archonthewizard 2015-04-23T03:13:00

Noooo! Out of food! This was really fun, and an EXCELLENT use of the theme. We're not firing kittens out of rocket launchers or anything, we're using them in a way that is logically conceivable (if not all that probably). Really great.

Bad and Breakfast by Krisjet 2015-04-20T17:20:00

All the screen shake! Love it.

Ani-melee by RHY3756547 2015-04-20T05:41:00

Phoebe!!
I was playing alone, and still had a lot of fun.
Phoebe was my FAVORITE!

Grief by mantis 2015-04-23T01:51:00

Nice recreation of Meat Boy playability. Did NOT like the fridging at the beginning - I almost stopped playing before I got to the gameplay. But the gameplay was fun! So, I guess I'd suggest a different story if you continue developing it. :P

Amidst the Shadows by FacticiusVir 2015-04-20T04:51:00

Very spooky. I had trouble ... not dying. Loved the atmosphere, as well as the voice log.

Nuke Whaling by Homletmoo 2015-04-20T21:33:00

I get a real Ridiculous Fishing vibe from this. Excellent execution.

Quiet Riot by GeorgeBroussard 2015-04-20T05:30:00

Nicely done. Love the visuals, and the gameplay is pretty challenging. More complex than it seems at first. I also love all the stuff the king is saying. Plague is NOT a problem!

Guide 2 Where? by Pitʶik4 2015-04-23T02:04:00

Whoa. Just, whoa.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Azrellian Asteroid Field by KunoNoOni 2017-08-01T01:34:33Z

Final score: 1386. Quite fun! I loved your narration. It wasn't until I got a slow time powerup that you were saying "Power!" and "Big Power!" when I collected those powerups. Before that, I was hearing "Pow!" and "Bang! Pow!", which I thought was very funny as well. Nice music, too! Nice slow buildup to more challenging gameplay. I would've also liked to see some variation in the asteroid behavior (like moving back and forth or something like that), but the slow decrease of power led me to try more daring stunts to keep getting more power.

Energy Juice by TheSand 2017-08-01T00:40:40Z

Wow, that is tough! I found Pro mode to be slightly easier than hard mode? I still didn't WIN pro mode, but it FELT easier because the letters were slower.

It's very solidly constructed. Simple and tough. The letters are hard to read as they're falling, which makes it different from other "typing" games I've played, where the letters are moving more slowly and there are more of them (like Typing of the Dead or Epistory). This made me use a different part of my brain - I was relying more on immediate letter recognition, sometimes just out of peripheral vision, instead of good typing technique and spelling, which those other games reinforce.

Also, I think that's a great way to generate power!

Power Crisis by Gulyasarni66 2017-08-02T01:23:02Z

Very cool! Excellent graphics and solid gameplay - the worlds were well-built and the difficulty curve was fairly steep, but I felt myself getting better as I got a feel for the mechanics. Nice sound design and UI as well.

A Night at Grandpa's by Kingethaniel 2017-08-01T01:26:16Z

Wow, that was very spooky! Very nicely balanced mechanic - predicable player movement meant that you could just flash the light on briefly and play it by instinct, but that meant that the spooky stuff was even spookier because you just flashed it on. The ending(?) was pretty spooky as well! Very polished. Excellent audio.

Lucis by Kristian David 2017-08-01T00:48:02Z

Very well done! It's very hard, but in playing it 5 or 6 times, I found I was able to improve. My initial strategy of just sprinting constantly didn't work. Neither did just shooting a whole bunch. It's more of a measured, sprint-sometimes, shoot-sometimes, move-very-carefully strategy that got me the farthest. I still didn't get to the very end, but I felt like I got a good ways through. Nice lighting, nice effects, nice models. I could have used more feedback about when I was taking damage or when I was using power, as death snuck up on me some.

Gargoyle's Curse by Rombus 2017-08-01T01:55:45Z

Wow, that is tough! Nicely balanced frantic gameplay, with a good amount of randomness but still some strategy. Great audio and graphics!

Power or die by Aterlamia 2017-08-01T00:31:38Z

Good replay value. Plenty of mechanics to discover and the mood was well-set. I felt like some of the mechanics weren't quite finished (I also accidentally got perpetual energy?), but the framework was quite solid. I liked the dialogue at the beginning as well.

MotherBoard by nikrt 2017-08-01T12:06:36Z

Nice atmosphere, and good concept! The gameplay was solid as well. Regarding what other people were saying about the camera/controls, it would have helped me is if the camera continued rotating the way it was, but if the controls were relative to the world instead of the direction the character was facing. So, when I press left, it always brings me towards the left side of the map? And I could just adjust as the camera rotates? I don't know for sure if that would work, but the tank controls made it a little difficult to evade enemies. Also, nice design and good mood.

Unobtainium by BinarySpark 2017-08-01T00:56:39Z

Wow, my second time around was much easier than the first time! Nice solid mechanics - sort of a diggy take on Seas of Scred (at least that's the game I've played that's most similar to this). The balance of digging vs. returning to the surface seemed pretty good to me. I had trouble digging sideways a lot of the time, but I wasn't sure if that was intentional. Anyway, I spent a good amount of time on it, but I did not quite obtain the unobtanium.

Battery Escape !!! by EggshellDog 2017-08-02T01:33:38Z

I'm pretty sure this is exactly how batteries work, so nice job on scientific accuracy! Also, the game is quite fun! It has a nice quick feel, so you can play a bunch of rounds one after another with a "one more try" sort of vibe. I like the upgrade system and all the faces on everything. The SFX were nice as well.

Ready, HANDHELD! by emanvidmaker 2017-08-01T01:42:50Z

Very nice! I especially like the way that the screen fades and the music slows as you get closer and closer to no power - and it really reminds me of the feeling of not really knowing how much battery power you had left, but knowing that it was bad and that you were running out of time. In fact, the mechanics are nicely balanced - you've got the shamrocks(?) to collect and the copious checkpoints to find, and those both play nicely with the batteries. The checkpoints mean that you won't have to go back far if you die, but the batteries don't respawn (right?), so you've got to learn from your mistakes and get better. The jumping did take a while to get used to. I liked the music a lot, and the sfx were spot on. Is that bfxr I detect? :)

Exponential Maintenance Engineer by nintendoeats 2017-08-02T01:57:34Z

Quite fun! Not like anything I've played before. The music was quite fun, and the premise was simple and well-executed. Good feedback, and easy to start over again when you fail!

Inverteb by David Allen 2017-08-02T02:27:37Z

Wow, that is impressive! INCREDIBLY fluid graphics, controls, effects, animation, music/sound design, gameplay, even the UI! Loved the pixely filter and the color design as well. The gameplay was like a nice mix between Thumper, Canabalt, and Boson X, with a little more early 90s heavy metal thrown in. Incredibly impressive and very fun.

Depths of Oceania by cnoble 2017-08-02T01:47:30Z

Very cool! Nice gameplay concept and solid execution. Good variety of enemies and excellent mood.

Wow, this is really nice. A very polished gameplay experience. The movement feels appropriately slidey, and the shooting of the puck feels very satisfying, especially when you get if going very fast. I could see it being very fun to play with a lot of people. Nice work!

Wow, an impressive achievement! Nicely built world, solid battle system, good narration, and a nice, unexpected ending!

@winterslice Thanks for the feedback! I may try to fix that air duct section - you're not the only one to get stuck in there. Thanks for playing, despite the near motion sickness! And I should adjust the volume a bit as well. I didn't do really any audio leveling.

@goldranger Thanks for noticing that! I'm pretty sure I've fixed it - you should see version 1.0.2 on there now.

Skelly Zone by mattmirrorfish 2017-08-02T02:33:28Z

Excellent graphics and a solid gameplay concept that was well-executed. Controls were a little tough to get the hang of, and I could have used in-game tooltips for what the tools did, but the gameplay worked pretty well on its own. The skull collecting mechanic was nice (I didn't realize for a while that the skulls from the skeletons could ALSO be picked up!) and it sounded great when you picked a bunch up at once. The colors and lighting were all quite nice as well.

THE STORY ABOUT THE ROBOT THAT WAS ON LEVEL 1 WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENED by Mesuko 2017-08-01T01:19:54Z

Hmm, I'm having trouble getting over the second pit of water! I can't jump high enough to get over it! The narration at the beginning was great. :)

Hey there, I can't get your game link to work! I just get a 404 on itch.io.
