Hey there, I can't get your game link to work! I just get a 404 on itch.io.
Itch.io page is fixed! Link should be working
Didn't realise I had to change it from Draft (Cause I'm an idiot)
Enjoy :)
Very good for your first game, but i would have really liked a Game End Screen or something even after the time runs out the game just continues and even if you get 0 Cats you can still keep on going. I really liked the art.
Great effort, especially if that's the first thing you've made after tutorials. Things it would be great to have:
• A shorter timer. The game overall felt quite long. Does it ramp difficulty based on time? In the last 10 seconds pretty much all my cats left the house!
• A 'game over here is your score' screen. At the moment the music just stops but the game carries on.
• Collision with the house. At the moment I can just walk through.
Great to see you using GameMaker. Good choice!
Very nice for your first game ! The art is very solid for a compo entry and movement is great, even though the screen wrap on the edges was a bit disorienting.
The only problem I have with the game right now is the lack of an ending screen, that be when all the cats are out of the house or when the timer reaches 0.
Other than that it's a very well polished game, hope to see more of your stuff in the future !
What even is this game? I had fun nonetheless.
Thanks for the feedback so far!
The difficulty does ramp up as the timer goes down (and the cats go into catnip withdrawal!). The idea was for you to lose power and control over them without their catnip kryptonite.
I did code Game Over messages for winning and losing, but sadly they are bugged. I couldn't get them to work before the time limit.
Pressing R to restart does work though.
Man, this game was extremely scary ahah. I love the cats voices you recorded. Especially the one sound that sounds like an angry cat.

Ahah this is funny
Ha ha tell me that's not you meowing :D , pretty good keep it up
This game was pretty hilarious!I love the sounds and the faces, both on the cats and the nervous cat herder.
> Ha ha tell me that’s not you meowing :D , pretty good keep it up
What madman would spend 20 minutes loudly meowing to himself?
So loud that he got weird looks from the neighbours downstairs the next day and feels kinda embarrassed... Not me I tell you!
Great job on this! Especially the meowing, that was pretty funny. Plus your cats are super adorbs, so well done for that. The movement and cat control works very well and I have a feeling that you've forced a herd mentality that ensures they stick together when they're close enough (which is a great idea to ensure consistent experiences for players). Even if you haven't, kudos, because managing the cats feels pretty great.
When I went into the game, I had the expectation of it being level based, with slowly more and more disobedient cats to raise the difficulty, instead of it being one big level with 100 cats.
Another thing that I would have really appreciated would be a view of the cats in the house, instead of the house being opaque, since that would give me some great feedback on my progress and also help me better gauge the flow of cats into and out of the house.
Overall, had a good time!
That was a lovely little game! Gameplay was simple and intuitive, pretty fun. The warping around the level borders felt very disorienting to me, however, because of the camera jump delay - I'd be on a herd's tail and suddenly lose them due to the warp. I loved how you changed the pacing of the music according to the time remaining. The feedback sound for the cats going into the house was only slightly different from the usual cat sounds, I feel that it needs to be much more...different, for the feedback to register properly. Amazing job for a first game!
Its a nice game, but I think the art could be better if it was the same king of art style throughout the game. Right now, the character is a different art style, and something like the rocks look completely different. Maybe it's just me, but I guess a consistent art style looks better anytime. Really fun game nonetheless.
Really nice game! The dude looks so nicely scared. The sound is quite funny and the game works well, the controls feel good and not too slow. The music was calm and fitting. Overall, a nice and quite finished entry!
The thing i'd like most to be improved would be the progression. The mode where the cats escape and i get them back in feels a bit like sysiphus work. Maybe there could be a mode that is more engaging - i could imagine getting 100 cats back into the house as fast as possible be something fun.
btw i love the meanderthal play of words :D
A massive thanks for all the great feedback so far on the update! I'll take the criticism and suggestions to make a final update this week hopefully (if I get time!).
What I'm aiming for:-
* Overhaul Movement System - Collision and the need for Screen Warp are tied to this. So i REALLY want to change it
* Change Gameplay / Level Design - Based on feedback I'll look for timed levels with score system
* Art / Animation - New Art/Animation for the cats, plus a more consistent art style for all assets
* Additional New Features - Add a Combo System to the score, with an endless mode if I have time
* Polishing - So many small things to add or tidy up that I'll hurt my brain and fingers trying to list them
Keep the feedback coming, it's a major help!
Very funny, cats rule the internet ! :D
I like the art and the sound effect, good job !
meow
I liked the cats and their sound effect.
Overall good game, I don't really see it as following the theme but since you recently learned how to make games it'll slide. Decent art, it gets the job done and funny sounds definitely keep you amused.. The game mechanics were good and it was fun to play for a while. Definitely well done, in general!
For you first jam, is a very good work.
Meow that was a CATastrophe!
The cats running away from you actually felt pretty nice to control - similar minigames (Legend of Zelda) usually feel pretty wonky, but this didn't. The sound effect got annoying about halfway through but outside of that I had a good time.
It's a good design idea to herd cat instead of sheep, but it'd be better to make the kitties act more cute, like more authentic meow voices, and some more cat-like action ( wash-face/rolling/climbing/ etc)
Meow, meow, meow, yeah!
Funny stuff. For once I managed to win a game on my first time here!
Good game, what a coincidence I am playing the game on International cat day =p
The game is good, a good idea, the art is simple but looks good, the song is calm fits the idea, the only thing I would change would be make the html's screen smaller, besides that great job !
