LD38 — A Small World

Crumpets and Cannons by Temmy 2017-04-28T13:15:04Z

@adventurjourney Thanks for your comment! You are totally right about the flow, sound and music. Unfortunately I just didn't have the time (or energy) to do so. Would have loved to. Perhaps I'll put up a 'post-jam' version with some improvements in.

Glad you liked the intro and you felt there was some depth to the universe. That's was definitely a part of what I was hoping to achieve.

Crumpets and Cannons by Temmy 2017-05-02T07:58:43Z

@cerno-b Thanks for the comment! I too wish there was some music and sound effects. That was always my plan but it took a surprising amount of time just to get what you see up and running. Unfortunately I just ran out of time and energy!

Totally agree about the flow, and yeah, that bug is annoying. By the end I had something of an idea as to how to fix it (or at least, better understood what the problem was) but again my energy tanks were running on empty by then. Perhaps I'll put up a post-jam version with a few fixes sometime. :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

In Charge of Power by bradur 2017-08-05T15:03:13Z

I've always been a fan of Sim City like games so you get bonus points from me! Love the music as well, and gave the game multiple attempts. It seems to get really hard when you have 20 or so citizens.

Junk Drawer by Hammers 2017-08-05T21:35:56Z

I love how you interpreted the theme for this and I don't feel at all guilty that I've just opened this exact drawer in the kitchen in an attempt to replace the batteries in the TV remote...

Cryo Caper by frozenshadowdragon 2017-08-05T14:01:45Z

Love the premise, and very much in that FTL line of atmosphere. I found it impossible to really know what the best course of action was to mitigate threats. I ended up disabling the weapons and sensors altogether but leaving the shields up which suggested I would have enough power to get to the destination.

No Sign Of Life by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-08-06T12:08:36Z

Loving the sci-fi mystery story a lot! It came across as very atmospheric with excellent mood throughout. The ambient soundtrack really helps add to the experience. Well done!

Spirits of Light by citsua 2017-08-05T21:13:16Z

W doesn't work for me at all which makes movement impossible. :(

Don't Let the Light Go Out by BeamKirby 2017-08-01T20:57:57Z

Really nice work. Great screen effects and with the text (wish I knew how to do that!). I felt the difficulty spiked at a point. It seemed I became overrun all of a sudden.

Engines & Earl Grey by Temmy 2017-08-05T15:43:39Z

@gonutz I've added a HTML 5 version now over at https://temmy.itch.io/engines-earl-grey .

Hopefully that suits you!

The Last Frontier by Drag0mir 2017-08-06T11:57:18Z

Shame you only got 15 hours during the jam! My main sticking points were:

- I couldn't see the bullets I was firing at all. Took me a while to realise shooting was actually helping. - I got a message saying 'go to the turret on the left' but nothing seemed to happen. The level opened up going right though so I went there instead. - I got caught jumping quite a bit where my character would stick against the side of something.

Good job getting the start of an idea down though! Would be awesome to see you continue developing it.

UberPower by m19pickles 2017-08-06T11:25:48Z

I like the fact you were going for a Crazy Taxi approach to the idea, that's a really good interpretation. The acceleration of the vehicle feels really slow, and also when I hit something I spin a lot more than I expected. Also I'm pretty sure I delivered some pizza but didn't get any money for it. Harsh!

Bathroom by Greyfull 2017-08-05T13:51:25Z

Congratulations on completing your first LD game! An awesome achievement in it's own right. I enjoyed how you interpreted the theme. Wouldn't have been something I'd have thought of!

Ether Storm by VoidShard 2017-08-05T20:01:05Z

I'm not sure what's going on in the game I'm afraid. My ship seems to move in strange directions then the whole game will stutter quite badly on my PC. Also, it seems to restart but I'm not sure why. Is there a 'ship health' or some other value that determines the game restarting?

Ducky Descent by btg99 2017-08-05T14:19:51Z

I went so far down that I lost the sun and it turned green. I didn't see any parachutes or collectables along the way. ;(

MagneCube by Justintime4u2bu 2017-08-05T19:29:09Z

This game is very difficult, but it was that which had me replaying levels again and again trying to complete them. I like how you've taken the theme and merged it into a platformer although jumping really doesn't feel like a jump, more of a jetpack like mechanic?

You should change the colour of the 'low power' state as it becomes impossible to see the playable avatar against the background.

Electron Busters by Imreness 2017-08-05T19:37:30Z

Congratulations on completing your first Ludum Dare! I'm having similar problems playing as mentioned above though. I worked out that pressing 1,2,3 seems to change something in the bottom right corner but I have no idea how I'm supposed to interact with the electrons as they move. Also, how am I supposed to know if they are good or bad?

A write up of 'how to play' on your submissions page would help a lot!

Scared in the dark by CowGamesStudio 2017-08-05T14:15:17Z

The game worked for me! I like your colour palette on the switches. I wasn't sure what the number on the screen represented. It kept going up and down but didn't seem to be connected to anything. Also some of the switches seemed to be non-responsive at times.

Back home by gumou 2017-08-05T14:29:03Z

I love this idea. You've made a puzzle game where you have to work out the best route to home and I think that's a really neat use of the theme. I couldn't work out the solution to the 5th level however. I thought I had jumped straight to the 'home' planet but the level didn't seem to end.

I really like this. It's a very simple to play game and I can see how you could expand this further to make the levels more challenging. Well done!

Rune Space by Victo Principe Pessoa Borges 2017-08-05T19:51:43Z

There was shooting?!

Please please please always write a 'how to play' part on the submission page otherwise no-one will know how to play your game properly. I really like the visual simplicity of the ship and asteroids. I know how much time it can take to get audio assets and then plug them all in but it would help lift the game a lot.

Hope you enjoyed making it!

Tree Trouble by Jamian Vieira 2017-08-05T10:17:47Z

Good job. I found it a bit strange how my character didn't rotate while moving around. Also having some-sort of score at the end would be good for re-playability.

Action Power Robot by dshock51 2017-08-01T21:17:19Z

Nice job. I found the fact I couldn't move in a diagonal really limiting. I get that that creates the main difficulty of completing the levels, but at the same time not being able to do it felt at odds with the robot.

Running Out of Power by Klaus Mana 2017-08-05T10:41:35Z

Nice idea of the idle clicker. Usually though with these sort of games you have an automatic income ticking over which you then can speed up by clicks. That way you always have that feeling of gaining. Took me a while to understand what the controls were; adding a 'how to play' to your submission page would definitely help!

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-08-05T21:44:09Z

I'm getting a 403 error on the HTML5 version. Downloaded and played but couldn't get past the first level!

Love the premise though. Very nicely executed.

Cat Herder - THE CATPOCALYPSE by Meanderthal 2017-08-01T12:24:50Z

Great effort, especially if that's the first thing you've made after tutorials. Things it would be great to have:

• A shorter timer. The game overall felt quite long. Does it ramp difficulty based on time? In the last 10 seconds pretty much all my cats left the house!

• A 'game over here is your score' screen. At the moment the music just stops but the game carries on.

• Collision with the house. At the moment I can just walk through.

Great to see you using GameMaker. Good choice!

POWER PLAYER by gummyfrog 2017-08-05T10:25:19Z

Took me a while to understand how to control things, but I really like the premise of a 'game within a game'. A nice simple idea.

Bad King Simulator by Isaac Ethington 2017-08-05T14:07:21Z

You interpretation of the theme is solid, but I didn't really know what I was doing in the game. Explaining what the different options are even just on the submission page would help a lot!

Head of State by TomDavies 2017-08-05T13:43:17Z

I like the idea of a world leader simulator (not at all inspired by current events I'd wager) but I'd agree with @edmond00 about not knowing what to do. I signed the healthcare bill but after that I had no clue as to what I should do. Apparently Martin Gavell just stood there not talking. Classic Gavell.

The Screen by bilgekaan 2017-08-06T11:27:18Z

I don't get a 403 error, but I just get a black screen.

The safe zone by pmilian 2017-08-05T21:31:35Z

It was quite satisfying rounding up a horde of zombies to then pull against the electric fence. Would have loved to have a bit of audio in there!

Low power mode by ville2304 2017-08-05T10:52:19Z

Really nice idea of messing around with the power levels of the robot. I really like the impact it has on the visuals and audio of the game.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

D.U.S.T by Hammers 2017-12-04T08:57:55Z

Damn, is that some sexy chromatic aberration I see there?

Great stuff mister :)

LD42 — Running out of space

Another Summer Run by Tragon 2018-08-13T14:00:37Z

830 points! Would have loved a bit of audio in it, but I know how little time there is to anything in a game jam. Good job. :)

GRANDMA KNIGHT by manusaiz 2018-08-13T14:20:03Z

404 on the link. Hope you can fix it, would love to give it a play!

Kingdom Brunel in the Temple of Teacakes by Temmy 2018-07-22T17:26:40Z

Heeeey!

Looking forward to getting stuck into LD42. Although, I'm still having fun cracking on with my LD41 game haha.

temp.gif

Come follow its development over at @Hi_ImTemmy on Twitter and let's talk gamedev awesomeness.

Kingdom Brunel in the Temple of Teacakes by Temmy 2018-08-13T14:33:24Z

@laytanl Thanks for playing! Re the theme; I was thinking of the classic Indiana Jones traps; i.e. running out of space as the ceiling comes down or the walls come closer in....etc

Kingdom Brunel in the Temple of Teacakes by Temmy 2018-08-13T14:34:37Z

@adonisdevs Yeah...that jump is a bug, not a mechanic! Only found out from a friend it was possible after posting it up. Haha! Unintended features. ;)

Human Powered Rocket by EggshellDog 2018-08-13T14:19:04Z

Quirky!

SAVE YOUR BROTHER by Jisam 2018-08-13T14:08:59Z

Visually very nice. I thought the music was a bit of an odd choice, didn't really seem to fit what seemed quite sombre on the starting screen. The actual game bit was a lot lighter than I thought it was going to be.

Lest mynyt vacation by Akaneiro 2018-08-13T14:14:09Z

Cool! I think I had a bug where the music from the menu and the level played at the same time.

Hoarder by Dr_Monkfish 2018-08-13T13:46:59Z

Nice. At the start I thought I was going to be there a long time before health was in any way a problem. That soon became a different story.

9200 pts! Try and beat me!

Rumble Trouble by alexkarate 2018-08-13T14:25:50Z

Hey cool! There were definitely a few thinking moments in there trying to workout the correct route. Great stuff.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Follow The Light by BloodJohn 2018-04-23T19:31:49Z

What a cute game!

The Fast Dating by jk5000 2018-04-23T12:16:51Z

I really want a 'lovvvve pillow' now.

Commodore Combat by Syrapt0r 2018-04-23T15:24:52Z

Commodore Combat by Syrapt0r 2018-04-23T16:05:51Z

@Syrapt0r For the best.

OUTLAW 🚗 MAYOR 🚓🚓 PANIC! by 01010111 2018-04-24T18:45:00Z

For me I can't seem to get past the title screen. I hear "Outlaw Mayor" then I'm just stuck with the looping animation on the title.

Captain Bauldy's Fun House by jharler 2018-04-23T16:05:01Z

Oh man, that's moody. Good job nailing the tension.

Tales from Avanor by theviraldragon 2018-04-23T11:56:58Z

Oh man, those barbarians got the best of me quite fast. I love kingdom simulators. I think it would help to have a easier overview of inventories and stuff.

Leave Me by Eroder 2018-04-23T09:15:33Z

Oooooh, a sort of tower defence meets space invaders mash-up. Interesting!

What did you enjoy doing most while making it?

Bunny Derps by mintarcade 2018-04-23T15:08:17Z

I seemed to drop into a warzone, but didn't really know what I should do or how to do things. If you could flesh out a explanation or tutorial that would really help you I think.

Bully-Logy by malobil 2018-04-23T15:29:39Z

Now that's one stylish game. Loving the graphics budget on game over as well.

Defender of the Road by Val 2018-04-23T08:09:54Z

Good stuff! My high score was 1729! Woooo! Beat that folks!

Dear Clicker by blubberquark 2018-04-23T10:11:29Z

I made it as far as the gate before my finger gave up. Love this mash up, you definitely found two very different genres!

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-23T10:40:15Z

Think of it more of a proof of concept than a game. Would have loved to have made it longer and still might if folks think it would be a interesting enough spin on adventure games!

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-23T10:40:50Z

@frostdragonliz Maureen won't let you use the elevator. Distract her with something!

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-23T19:02:40Z

@mintarcade Yeah, I didn't have time to actually make any proper art or models so had to just use Unity primitives. Thanks for giving it a go!

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-23T19:03:24Z

@WesClaudino Nah. By which I mean, hell yeah! Firing it up now.

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-23T19:34:27Z

@theviraldragon Talk to Maureen (to the right of the button). You need to give her something.

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-23T19:40:51Z

@theviraldragon Well, in your defence she is a duplicate of one with just a different material haha! Next time; proper character art. I promise.

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-24T13:33:57Z

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I'm going to turn this into a bigger game because WHY NOT.

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-26T07:35:32Z

@acto87 Thank you for the feedback, that's certainly the plan now!

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-26T11:00:44Z

@jharler Oh man, you and me both! If only I had struggled with Unity so much on the Saturday night I think there might have been an almighty three rooms, maybe four! Ooooo.

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-04-27T10:00:29Z

@JustinM Thanks! I was equally disheartened playing it and was thinking

"Man, couldn't the person making it have made it bigger? That's too short!"

...to which point I then said...

"Very true! I'd love this to be a much bigger game. I miss adventure games. They were wonderful and made me laugh."

...then I said...

"Absolutely. So we should make it a bigger game, right? I mean, everyone else seems to like it as well, even if they mistook Maureen for a filing cabinet."

...

"That's not their fault. She does use the exact same model just with a different colour."

"But she likes paperwork right?"

"So it's kinda fitting in a way..."

"Yeah. Just what I was thinking."

"Anyway how about we make this a proper game. Make a demo, Kickstarter it or use one of those backer-thingy-thingymajigs and then put it up on Steam."

"Now THAT sounds like a awesome plan."

....

I'm definitely going to make it. :)

Point & Shoot by Temmy 2018-05-14T08:42:02Z

@Invixel @Tom Panton Why, thank you for your comments. I've been perfecting my cupboard descriptions for many years now.

Deadication by bcvery1 2018-04-23T08:40:45Z

"You picked up revolting human food" Haha. Took me a while to work out when I could harvest the fields, but I do like the notion of somesort of zombie farming simulator.

What did you enjoy most while making this game?

Kinbaku by vkmicro 2018-04-23T08:33:36Z

I made it out! Wooooooooooo! I like the fact you didn't overly punish the player for getting hit. Some game designers would have flashed up a huge **GAME OVER** screen as soon as something touched you and that would have been that, but I prefered the drop down and the ability to rescue yourself. I genuinely enjoyed playing it and figuring out the routes.

Which bit of making it did you enjoy most?

Kinbaku by vkmicro 2018-04-23T16:07:09Z

@vkmicro Awesome stuff!

Survival Cannon by Ted Carter 2018-04-24T18:54:34Z

It took me a while to understand what the interface on the right was doing. Could you give us a little more instruction about what you need to do to play the game? It seemed like there was a relationship with certain crates and then the options on the right, but I couldn't figure out how to make more food.

Other than that, it's a fun little cannon game! Congrats!

Sketchbook Adventure by TangyBananas 2018-05-13T08:25:13Z

Great concept! Love the idea of finding items in one world and then using them in a completely different one. I found a bug where I jumped over the locked castle door and then fell off the platform world. Couldn't get back up!

FARMCADE by GeorgeBroussard 2018-04-23T09:23:11Z

Man, that rabbit is my new nemesis. Really enjoyed it! The art and objective blended really well with the platform controls and style. How did you do the music by the way? You mention it was procedurally generated. Would love to know more about that.

Quick Down by Hugimugi7 2018-04-23T14:58:59Z

Wow those enemies ramped up quite quickly. Would have loved to see more of the 'sport' theme in here mechanically.

What did you enjoy doing most when making this?

Mysterious Floating Gems by roflmoqkz 2018-04-23T09:47:49Z

Oh man, that was tough. I liked the attention split though of either worrying about the enemies or wanting to move things around the grid to improve myself. Good stuff.

Plenty of Fish by PaterJosch 2018-04-23T11:34:17Z

My mermaid girlfriend didn't like nuclear weapons. Nice and simple game, like you suggested, the music can get a bit jarring after a while.

A Virtual Friend by frostdragonliz 2018-04-23T09:33:43Z

Love it. I like the fact it was just a perfectly ordinary virtual pet.

Scarry by Memel06 2018-04-23T07:58:24Z

Nice touch with the microphone boost! Man, that monster car is tough to escape. Its one mean driver.

The controls were fine. Micro Machines: The Horror Years!

Real time Reversi by thesnide 2018-05-13T08:04:22Z

Gun Hero by soloinabox 2018-04-23T11:39:53Z

Interesting mash-up! I found it a bit hard to tell when I had succesfully hit something or not. I think some bigger, bolder feedback on success would help.

Ducks Hunter (Shooter + Racing) by StarzzDrak 2018-04-23T12:28:03Z

Yeah, I ran out of duck too, bit it was still fun to race around in my shopping cart haha. Great stuff.

@WesClaudino @EddyNeave Hope things are better now!

X-COME (platformer + strategy) by Tropos 2018-04-23T11:49:09Z

Cool concept. Took me a bit of time to work out how to play and move around, but afterward yeah, it feels like XCOM as a platformer.

Golf Of The Dead by Freeman01 2018-04-23T19:52:45Z

This is awesome. The art and visual style is fantastic.

Stealth Casual Farming Simulator by RadioactiveRambo 2018-04-23T08:16:06Z

What did you enjoy the most about making this?

404 here as well, 'couldn't find page'. Could you host it somewhere else?

Sneaky by The_Icy_One 2018-04-23T08:20:51Z

Same for me. Game doesn't load. The window for it briefly appears and then disappears straight away.

Hope you can fix it. It doesn't matter that you think your game is unfinished, it would still be awesome to play it and you deserve it for the effort you put in!
