LD39 — Running out of Power

Fart Squirrel by Pandakipu 2017-08-07T23:08:31Z

Simple game, with a ton of character! I loved the art, animation and music

Is Your Refrigerator Running? by urbanhelsing 2017-08-07T20:52:28Z

Oh man the music, THAT MUSIC. I wanted to keep struggling through the gameplay just to hear more of it. Is there a download of it somewhere? It's gold!

Sadly the gameplay was just not fun. For me it was a combination of level design, clunky controls and the static camera (which made it difficult to judge distance). But I do hate platformers, so I might just be me.

The concept and humour were almost as good as the music. I happily read and grinned through the intro, quotes and was eager to hear the narrator  . The level art was lacking but it was top notch for the chilled mechanical brother.

> Hello peeps, this is the music used for the game!

Whoop! Thanks mate!

Such an awesome song and a game with some great ideas. Good luck in the voting :)

The Hunt for Red October Box by hadesfury 2017-08-07T20:06:45Z

The music, lighting along with (most) of the SFX made the atmosphere absolutely spot on. It really felt lonely, dark, but tranquil. Unfortunately the sharp buzzing SFX really spoiled this. Maybe some more natural sounds like a gong with lots of echo would do the trick (hull damage). I could also see a low volume ship horn for the alert.

Incredible polish, graphics and controls though, I could see this being a full game very easily!

PowerMan by C0nst4ntin 2017-08-07T23:26:54Z

Great work for your first game at 14. I won't repeat the excellent feedback on gameplay above, especially as platformers aren't my thing. I'll just add that I loved the wiggling arms as you fall!

Music is *almost* spot on. The low beat is **really** catchy, but the top notes need a little work. Try searching 'Best SNES Soundtracks' on youtube and listening to them for inspiration.

Can't wait to see what you make next year!

Loved the Artwork and Music. Animation could definitely use some work. Sadly the movement or collision seems bugged.

Hamster Habits by Rongo Matane 2017-08-07T21:42:21Z

The best game I've played so far, hands down. There was so much to love about this.

Perhaps like in life you start off naive and enthusiastic, (here I was lured in by the cute, funny art). Then half way through your life, you're left wondering the meaning of it all. But carry on out of habit, and the glimmer of hope to see something new.

I hated the drudging music at first, but I started to understand why. I thought it didn't fit the tone of the game at first, but then I realised it was my expectations which were wrong. It fit perfectly.

The artwork and animations added so much humour and character to the game, if anything they're the star here.

Criticisms? The only major one would be the restricted movement. You have to fight against it at first to find out where to go. Perhaps some kind of angle sliding would make it smoother?

I did love that as you age, you can't work as hard on the wheel as you did at first. But you're a lot more skilled at the minigame, so can end up earning more. Not sure if this was intentional, but it's a really nice parallel to real life.

After year 10 the futility of fighting against nature set in, so I decided to go out with a bang - literally

Incredible work. Never thought a short game could leave me feeling so strongly.

Photon Phury by PanC4k3 2017-08-01T11:48:07Z

I liked the idea, even if it's a bit dark, literally and figuratively!

Unfortunately the gameplay seemed bugged and a bit unclear.

Maybe some voice acting or music would give more character and mood.

The graphics though? Oh man, I loved both the style and detail. Great work on that.

Hold My Coffee by sunnray 2017-08-07T19:46:03Z

As others have said, the art and sound create an awesome atmosphere. I'm not quite sure the gameplay matches up with it, perhaps that could be where you target changes.

The gameplay had me going into 'Wipeout' mode, wanting the music to go faster as I sped up. But with the music I felt like I wanted to explore alien worlds, and panic over the meaning of my existence. However, with a bit of physics tweaking it could be very addictive and fun.

Good job

QTechnologic Quest by BottledMajesticness 2017-08-07T19:52:00Z

Loved the music! Might need to have some random tone variation on the robot SFX though. It was triggering me, like a phone vibrating on a table, that someone won't answer cause they're talking.... but the person keeps on ringing... DAMNIT ANSWER YOUR PHONE!

...ahem. I'd love to see some more levels to judge it properly

Last Train Out by amarcu 2017-08-01T11:18:51Z

Very clever and engaging!

Could have been a bit clearer on some of the concepts like speeding up, and the power.

Other than that, most was well explained through design or text :)

ULTIMATE PROSELYTISM & MIRACLES SIMULATOR 2017: THE MOVIE THE GAME by Reuh 2017-08-01T11:41:08Z

I appreciate the style of the art, even if your skills haven't reached godly levels yet!

Unfortunately I'm not a fan of platformers or cookie clickers, so didn't really like the gameplay.

The best part was the concept with the humour and cutscenes, loved that.

Geocentric Survival by Bewelge 2017-08-01T11:56:55Z

Great fun! Simple but very well balanced gameplay.

Music reminded me of Star Control 2, so I loved it

Any improvements? Some better art and SFX perhaps :)

The Color of Days To Come. by TheOneThatNeverWas 2017-08-07T22:52:47Z

I loved this. Completely different, surreal and emotive. Add some more in-depth and compelling gameplay and you've got a great game!

With my own experience of depression, I'll admit the ending was shocking and sad. I'd expected 'Are You Ready Yet' to mean facing the world again.

I guess for a character living in a surreal world of his own making, perspective is hard to achieve. Especially when depression taints how you see perceive *everything*. Every time it's happens to me, things feel completely hopeless. There's 1000 'reasons' I can't achieve something, or do something ... and every time afterwards I realise how completely, utterly wrong I was

Waking up from the haze of depression is like a desaturated picture coming alive with incredible colours you've forgotten for so long. The world is beautiful and magical again. Not as shocking as the ending here, but there's plenty of surreal experiences in meditation and therapy. (Plus some opportunities to add gameplay with the exercise!).

I'll be looking out for your game next year see where you go

Cat Herder - THE CATPOCALYPSE by Meanderthal 2017-08-01T12:01:08Z

Itch.io page is fixed! Link should be working

Didn't realise I had to change it from Draft (Cause I'm an idiot)

Enjoy :)

Cat Herder - THE CATPOCALYPSE by Meanderthal 2017-08-01T12:47:43Z

Thanks for the feedback so far!

The difficulty does ramp up as the timer goes down (and the cats go into catnip withdrawal!). The idea was for you to lose power and control over them without their catnip kryptonite.

I did code Game Over messages for winning and losing, but sadly they are bugged. I couldn't get them to work before the time limit.

Pressing R to restart does work though.

Cat Herder - THE CATPOCALYPSE by Meanderthal 2017-08-07T03:44:27Z

> Ha ha tell me that’s not you meowing :D , pretty good keep it up

What madman would spend 20 minutes loudly meowing to himself?

So loud that he got weird looks from the neighbours downstairs the next day and feels kinda embarrassed... Not me I tell you!

Cat Herder - THE CATPOCALYPSE by Meanderthal 2017-08-07T15:18:06Z

A massive thanks for all the great feedback so far on the update! I'll take the criticism and suggestions to make a final update this week hopefully (if I get time!).

What I'm aiming for:-

* Overhaul Movement System - Collision and the need for Screen Warp are tied to this. So i REALLY want to change it

* Change Gameplay / Level Design - Based on feedback I'll look for timed levels with score system

* Art / Animation - New Art/Animation for the cats, plus a more consistent art style for all assets

* Additional New Features - Add a Combo System to the score, with an endless mode if I have time

* Polishing - So many small things to add or tidy up that I'll hurt my brain and fingers trying to list them

Keep the feedback coming, it's a major help!

Hoover Simulator by Rancoud 2017-08-07T20:23:13Z

The balance was perfect, nice work. Just close enough each time that you wanted to keep on playing to get it. Sadly it was bugged for me, so no sound.

You've got the core gameplay for a very fun game here. Add some good art and humour and I'd play the hell out of it!

May the power be with you by Kappalite 2017-08-01T13:15:12Z

Simple but fun. The trail that shows you where you've been is cool. I loved the humour in the text. If you apply the same kind of work once you've learned how to make complex games, you'll make some awesome titles. :)
