link does not work
I'm excited to play it though
The link doesn't work
hmm. the link seems broken :(
404 on the link. Hope you can fix it, would love to give it a play!
Hi, tried to fix it.
@tednesday , @missalpha , @sloyd , Link should work now, I invite you to retry and hunt some bearballs :yum:
The link works, The game is cute and intense. The only thing I ask for is better movement
The music is pretty good and energetic. But I don't know if it is a bug that I do pick up the meat but the number on top didn't have any change.
@jzjerry the meat meter displays the delivered meat. Want to add a "Knight Logic" sense that did the math for how many were being held if I have the time.
@pabricka ok, added a "Held meat" meter so we can know how many meat gramma is carrying on her.
@dimlyorchid Wow thanks for the extensive feedback!
· Added a mark on the floor indicating to deliver the meat there.
I want to clarify the meat UI a bit more, probably add a meat-box icon in the UI. We'll see.
@o2o , @cranestyle , @randdir , Improved the movement. Yessss! It should work flawlessly now.
I liked the narrative. Number of meats gathered didn't work, and character kept getting stuck in the trees. Otherwise nice game!
I see what you were going for here. (works for me on itch launcher)
Really nice type of game, guess as already said need a lil better improove about mouvement and graphics. Keep it up !
I've tested your game and I really like the bearball sprite.
Alos, the player animation is funny :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
I seem to run into some basic interaction bugs pretty frequently, I get the concept like the general feel, but think a more focus on ensuring the kinds of things I am doing a lot of feel and work tightly.
I thought it was really cute and I got what you were going with the memory thing! super nice
I love this story.and it make me enter my memories. But I don't like control.Trees always stuck me
I liked it a lot. Had a few bugs here and there, but overall was a solid narrative experience.
Bugs:
-Meat text display does not work correctly (I thought it might've been tied to the narrative, but it doesn't work when she is healthy either)
-Map doesn't accurately reflect terrain (Not sure if that's part of the narrative too, but it was on her 2nd or 3rd part).
-Got stuck on trees a lot, especially in tight spaces
Feedback:
-The artwork was cute. Especially the bears!
-I wasn't sure where to go after hunting all the bears, initially. Partly because the meat counter did not work. I went back to the house door initially, but turns out I needed to go to the shed.
-The level with all the bears at the end is a bit weird. Why are there so many bears near the house? Were you trying to avoid making it tedious (because the character is so slow?) Personally I think it would've felt more balanced if you reduced the meat requirement instead of increasing it.
-Memory map: would be a bit more useful if it showed your current location for the first 1-2 levels, but not a big deal.
-To be honest I almost wanted to stop playing because I didn't want to be hit with a sad story.
-The story, and overall concept was good and well executed. You could really feel the story through the progression of the levels.
I love the story, the graphic and soundtrack is really funny and cute. But the tree line is really small so it sometimes confuse me where can I go where cannot.
Quite touching, played to the end, gj on putting such big emotion into such small game.
@kr4ft3r Thank you very much for the kind words, it means a lot.
I LOVE the art. Realy nice Game!
I wanna play your game, but I have only Linux Mint on my machine. Couldn’t rate you. See our game (it’s multi-platform written on LibGDX)
Nice storytelling, I like jow you added a new fitting soundtrack for every 'level'! The meatcounter worked fine for me and I got stuck to trees only a few times, and 'stuck' is too extreme a word to describe that.
This game made me tear up at the end for real... It's clearly made from the heart and was a very heartfelt experience. Thank you for sharing this with everyone! Really great job on this game, and a great take on the theme.
Aw this was a really cute game. I have a soft spot and respect for old people. I felt like the game was foreshadowing into something bad and that would've been neat, but I'm also relieved it didn't. Great job! The sound track was really nice and the art was simple but nice.
What a wholesome game. I've never played an LD game that had a story I cared about before, so hats off there.
even though getting slowlier and slowlier is pretty annoying, it fits the narrative well. i hope your grandma will enjoy this story. thanks for your game!
The feels - simple mechanics in a good setting really brings the game to life. I thought when the story said about her memory the mini map ability was going to stop working. Its a nice tribute.
Hi my bear brother :DD I will start with fact you created really cute soundtrack that stops me turning off this game, but gameplay is very undemanding and this game is so repeatable. Otherwise I like your entry and this beautiful music ^^^
Art and music was great, I really liked how the aesthetic/mechanics of the game adjusted as your character grew older. The gameplay was kinda tedious, though I guess that was point. The story was a nice touch! The bearballs were cute, I kinda felt bad killing them -_-
I like the art style but I don't know how is these connected to the theme.
@sokuaisushi We are immensely happy to read your words on your experience with the game. We couldn't expect any more. Thanks!
@c0nst4ntin Thank you! this was mainly Lau's doing :)
@iokin Hey, dunno how to export from GMS to Linux, sorry.
@naemis Yeah, I think it would have been too rough to go down that path. Life does that. We hoped that implying the possibility before the ending made the job.
@the-triumvirate Thanks for standing for the innocent trees! Actually, the complains were legit, there was a small bug with the movement, we fixed it by the time you played. So glad you liked the game :)
@ghostgoatsgames)Wow. Thank you very much for your kind words, we are beyond happy we reached you guys.
@zozol Yep tediousness was the deal. Hope it wasn't too harsh. Well my gramma was the protagonist of the story. I always try to make games thare are better than life :v:
@s-knight Thanks for yur kind words! Yeah we first made it all look red, but it was too harsh, then I draw it black, and finally blurred the minimap as days went by. You probably played the version in the middle :yum: And thanks.
@borys Hey bear one! yeah the point was not to offer a skill-challenging game, but a moving story through the mechanics. I needed some tediousness to connect with the pain. Thanks for the praise!
@nick-shooter Thanks, Lau made the art. The gameplay was absolutely intendedly tedious, hope not too much. Some say it was at spot, some too tedious, not sure how less tedious we should have made it to yet transmit the feeling, hard topic :tea: I am sorry about the bearballs being cute, but serrano jam is delicious and pigs are beautiful and tender, think it's just fair.
@timbelion, @5spectra My gramma loved to travel, and we used anything as an excuse to take us on a trip. As my gramma grew older she was more confined to her neibourhood as her legs failed her and she started to fall to the ground and get hurt. It was painful to know that could happen anytime... and it started happening more often every time. It's sad because I remember how she went to the grocery store when I was a small kid, and she could carry literally dozens of bags, it was amazing, I recall I told her she looked like a graceful female american football player. Anyhow, as the time went by, she started fearing going out of her house, then she started staying on her favourite coach. You get the correlation by this point. Thanks for asking!
edit: oh I mentioned she used to wear shoulderpads on her outfits, which was hilariously unnecesary because she wasn't very tall.
Man, this is great, love it.
Really sweet story, actually choked me up a little by the end. Very memorable. Liked the music a lot too. Great work guys.
A very touching game. Intresting narration, nice art and music. The only thing I didn't understand was the behavior of the bearballs. Do they react to the player? It seems that they just move back and forth, regardless of the player's attack.
This is really good! I'm impressed that you got so emotion into a jam game like this. Making levels shorter was a good way of balancing the gameplay as it got more frustrating, but some of them still felt too boring to me. I also sort of wish that the bears. I didn't encounter any bugs or confusing playing it.
The only game I played that has a true story. The music fits very well in the mood of the game.
I liked how even the character getting slower and weaker the game did not slow down.
I don't know if the game fits well in the theme of this LD. The physical ability to see the world of the character is represented by the world getting smaller, but I didn't feel I'm "running out of space" but rather "running out of abilities".
You really love your grandma.
@el-metallico Thanks :v:
@quicklyer Thanks, glad we made a connection there. THANKS!
@enot487 Thank you, bearballs are pretty much cute meat balls animals. It wasn't first priority that they attacked, but I had it in mind, suposedly going to attack only while in 2vs1 a 50% of the time and 100% chance of ballbear attack when they're 3vs1 or more. Also we were including a shield and a life system. But as it wasn't a priority we had to cut somewhere. I'm happy I cut that and not the other aspects tho :yum:
I liked the story and some of your ideas of representing the aging. You did well by making the world smaller as the character became older and slower. I also liked the music.
Why did the forest have to be all maze-like? Maybe it fits the memory-thing and her ability to find her way back home, but still I do not like the pathfinding part.
Altogether it is a nice entry and I enjoyed playing it! Thank you.
The story is touching, sound and visuals are very enjoyable. The gameplay, on the other hand, was rather stiff and tedious. I liked your representation of dementia with the world getting smaller. The minimap was not really helpful without a position marker.
The music was great, and it's a very endearing story. Could grandma's animation be faster? She seems like her frames are too slow compared to her movement speed.
What a lovely tribute! Art and music worked together well, especially representing the character aging. The minimap should show player's position, otherwise it was quite hard to find your way.
Well played. I'm sad now. (still like it)
@bastian, @gurkenlabs Thanks for the nice words. About the pathfinding part, my original idea was to make a straight path marked by signs, and then mess with the directions and make the signs illegible, but didn't have enough time and went with the current option.
@randytayler Thanks! I will mess around with the speeds and see if I can get it right.
@GreenAndSubmarine Thanks, I agree with the minimap needing to show player's position.
@zoltancoccyx haha, I'm glad we managed to move another soul. Hope you did enjoy the experience.
the art, music and story are great, i liked it ( the story touched me ) nice game.
cool game!
Hey guys so my grandma passed away last month during covid, 100 years old. I managed to organize the funeral and all, and she can finally rest. Love you Gramma :)
