Hi !

I love the idea of having an intro for that kind of game! It adds more depth to the universe!

However that would have been better with sound & music (I didn't have any sound on my computer, is this a bug or maybe a lack of time ?)^^ also when we loose we have to go over the intro again, in my opinion It's better to loose & restart over right away!

Ps : I like the minimalist game boy aesthetic of your game :)

@adventurjourney Thanks for your comment! You are totally right about the flow, sound and music. Unfortunately I just didn't have the time (or energy) to do so. Would have loved to. Perhaps I'll put up a 'post-jam' version with some improvements in.

Glad you liked the intro and you felt there was some depth to the universe. That's was definitely a part of what I was hoping to achieve.

Awesome graphics and atmosphere. You pulled off the English Aristocracy theme so well and it's really fun to read (I tried a similar theme in my game but it doesn't show too much). The graphics are amazing (although I'm not a big fan of stretching pixel art), I just wish there was some music and sound effects.

In my opinion it would help the game a lot if you just skipped the intro (and especially the pre-game explanations) after death, it sort of takes away the motivation to try again.

Gameplay wise, I found the action to be a little too short and at the same time not quite tight enough. Since you apparently can't shoot down the enemy shots, your success depends largely on how well you hit the aliens and I found that to be a bit twiddly. Still managed to barely finish the game on the second try.

One minor bug: If you rotate the cannon to the far left, it will shoot to the right (while still pointing left).

@cerno-b Thanks for the comment! I too wish there was some music and sound effects. That was always my plan but it took a surprising amount of time just to get what you see up and running. Unfortunately I just ran out of time and energy!

Totally agree about the flow, and yeah, that bug is annoying. By the end I had something of an idea as to how to fix it (or at least, better understood what the problem was) but again my energy tanks were running on empty by then. Perhaps I'll put up a post-jam version with a few fixes sometime. :)

A subtle critique of british imperialism (I'm kidding ) You should go for a post-compo version (probably mobile version), it's a nice concept and that pixel art is really good. Nice job!

I love the art style this game has to offer! It's got a nice concept, which could easily be expanded upon. I would love to play it if you ever make an updated version.

Love that you went for the gameboy aesthetic. I like the flags animation. Would love to see a post jam version. Great entry. If you get a chance check out our entry (which also has a gameboy aesthetic) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/down-the-rabbit-hole

I like the colour palette, feels retro! The lines return while the text is displaying is a bit annoying as you chase the moving words with your eyes while reading. I had trouble aiming with the cannon as I tried to click where I wanted the bullet to go. Still got the planet without landing hardly any shots on the aliens. I liked how developed and interesting the characters where for such a short game. Good job!

great graphics, fun game while it lasts, really miss some sound though for a game which is going so much for atmosphere

Really enjoyed the mood and humor of the short story. Good job. :)

High fives for entertaining cutscenes (with screenshake)!

A little meter to show the charge value of the cannon would be a great addition.

Altogether I think this delivered a solid Ludum Dare experience. ( ̄ω ̄)

The graphics were nice and perfectly complements the simple gameplay.

The cutscenes were funny, but i couldn't skip them after i died.

Good and solid game, nice.

Nice game. So bad there is no sound :( I enjoyed it, but the game is really too short :(

Aniway, nice entry!

Charming; there aren't many other words for this kind of thing :) Took me a little while to figure out how to play, and I take serious issue with gameplay having you click exactly in the area that gets the "proceeed" button when the game sequence is over. Great work though - it's got a very nice aesthetic to it, though the game length is maybe a bit on the short side.

I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/143780402 - time 0:55:00

I enjoyed the game once I got the hang of the rotation of the cannon. I missed that and couldn't pause and had to click through the intro to try again. That was kind of annoying, so skippable intro or just a replay current world would have been nice. The dragging bit, to me it seemed like you only needed to drag once in the beginning to make it aim the rest of the game and I think that was good, but there really was no need for the dragging to start with. I also got one shot to go the opposite direction of what I was aiming when I aimed to the far left so some math error there, or simply clamp the angle a bit. Nice game though, I liked the style and the tone and it would have been great with some music and audio on the robot, ship, aliens.
