Took some medkits, took some ammo, killed a sentry, killed a soldier, got VAC banned. Are you sure this isn't TF2?

Fun though, weirdly addictive.

Interesting idea, certainly two themes/genres you'd be unlikely to find anywhere else. The music and sound effects are fun and set the mood pretty well. However I felt like the rooms were all kind of ... same-y. You go in, check for enemies, open crates/take stuff, then leave. Not entirely sure if looking around is related to anything, it didn't feel like it at least. Maybe some more actions and some kind of level map you have to navigate through by knowing what each room looks like?

I don't know what happened but I got up to 150 ammo without running into a single enemy. Amazing rendering for the C64 effect and an awesome idea regardless.

temmy 2018-04-23 15:24

Just needed a psychedelic loading screen for that genuine Commodore 64 experience!

syrapt0r 2018-04-23 15:59

@Temmy I decided to drop the psychedelic boot screen in favor of not giving seizures to anyone ^^

temmy 2018-04-23 16:05

@Syrapt0r For the best.

notpresident35 2018-04-23 19:46

It looks great! However, I don't think I would call it fun. For one, the only way you can be attacked by anything is by typing check, and then defeating enemies requires no challenge. I suppose this is why these two genres are incompatible. I feel like you could have done more with this, but the interface is really cool and looks amazing!

Good luck

mainghia95 2018-04-24 13:31

It is a kinda fun game..... for nerds like me Mind to check our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/daxua

matt-pattabhi 2018-04-24 21:58

64k ram LOL. Well done I like the visuals and relate-ability

syrapt0r 2018-04-24 22:46

@Noxbuds @JezPez Thanks for your feedback and your criticism. After reading it, I realized you are absolutely right, I simply forgot to add random encounters ^^ I added those and the room types in version 1.2, so if you want to check it out, go ahead :)

@notpresident35 Thanks, the interface was prettified very late in development and I'm happy with the result as well ^^ as stated above, version 1.2 should fix your complaints. Hope you like it :D

@mainghia95 @Matt-Pattabhi Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it ^^

Wooh! 52200 points. It was exhausting, man!

I love this console's look, it's amazing! You really put much very effort into graphics. Of this console simulator! =D And this active background tune fits the game. Incredible old-school fun!

quarter-up-studios 2018-04-25 22:52

Awesome work, the emulated C64 is a great visual effect. Good use of theme.

jaredmercer 2018-04-26 00:26

This was amazing! I had a great time. You mixed the two genres flawlessly, they felt like they belonged together. Plenty of variation as well, never felt stale or got boring. Great job!

spthiel 2018-04-27 12:59

I really like textbased games. And the concept of making an fps textbase is quite interesting. Also, I love the music <3

22800 Score btw

karln 2018-04-29 19:18

I may have been missing something, I couldn't figure out how to shoot the sniper ("SHOOT SNIPER" didn't seem to do anything) or how to use medkits or what to do with crates :(

syrapt0r 2018-04-29 22:47

@karln The SHOOT command works without a target. You can TAKE medkits and you can OPEN or CHECK crates. Hope that helps :)

justmars 2018-05-02 14:43

Fits the theme well, I have nothing to complain about, great job! But I wonder, does the number of crates per room affect the amount of items you get at all?

syrapt0r 2018-05-02 15:49

@JustMars it was intended, yes. It completely threw off balance though (you would find way too much ammo in one room, you could die instantly without a chance to recover etc) so I decided to leave it completely random.

zeu31 2018-05-04 20:01

Interesting idea! It is very fun to play and the music and SFX are very nice. It took me some time to get that the right command is "take ammunition" instead of just "take". I think that would be nice if the "help" explained it in some way, or maybe a error message. But aside from that, good game! =)

2018-05-05 11:58

Interesting game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=157gFcDgY28

crimson 2018-05-05 13:23

Interesting combination of themes! Took quite some time trying to understand how to use the commands, but there's fun in that. Nice work!

erikkire 2018-05-05 20:02

Fun start but I mostly got stuck in leave the room repeats, did I miss something?

syrapt0r 2018-05-05 20:20

@erikkire Which version did you play? I fixed the no random encounters bug in 1.2, so you shouldn't be able to get stuck in leaving cycles.

erikkire 2018-05-05 21:05

@syrapt0r Ahh! Yes I played the first version, thanks!

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-07 01:22

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.
