LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Infernoculus by icxon 2018-04-24T03:54:31Z

Wow, I had a great time playing this! I would buy this for sure. The music was repetitive, but honestly, I didn't mind, it really enhanced the "strategy" atmosphere. I genuinely chuckled seeing a few of the name gags. Overall, great job! I loved it!

Commodore Combat by Syrapt0r 2018-04-26T00:26:37Z

This was amazing! I had a great time. You mixed the two genres flawlessly, they felt like they belonged together. Plenty of variation as well, never felt stale or got boring. Great job!

Quest for Gold by Mordokay 2018-04-26T00:08:41Z

Wow that was a fun little game! At first it was a little frustrating, but once I figured it out, I had a blast. Great execution! The level design was really nice, it added plenty of variety and plenty of freedom to explore the solutions.

Eldritch Cuisine by LoHii 2018-04-24T02:11:44Z

You did a fantastic job! I was legitimately scared walking in to the lower pantry area the first time, the ambiance is unsettling. I loved the environment art such as the paintings and the recipe board, and the characters are beautiful! The only thing I was confused about was when I pressed the Spacebar my view would lock forward. Not sure if this is intentional, but once I figured that out, it was an absolute blast!

Puttsy by morrilet 2018-04-25T23:51:25Z

That was a lot of fun actually! I cheated my way through the wall colliders a few times, but it was such a fun simple concept. Would make a great mobile game! Overall, I liked it a lot.

Click Race by JustinM 2018-04-29T22:12:43Z

This was an interesting experience. I like your genre combination, and I had fun playing. As others have said, SFX is always nice, even if it sounds lackluster, like in our entry. Other than that, I can't think of anything wrong with your game, in fact I see a lot of good in it. Look forward to seeing you next time!

LD #41 Entry - RED V S BLUE by ViridianGames 2018-04-24T02:34:12Z

I had a ton of fun with this! At first it felt a little time-consuming, but having that constant instant gratification that clicker games have made the game get more fun as it progressed. You did a great job!

Cardcade by Simon Rahnasto 2018-04-25T22:28:49Z

This is one of the first Jam games I've played that I would buy for $20! It gives off Isaac/Yugioh/Pokemon-like vibes. The procedural rooms always felt connected, and the occasional break room is a great for giving the player a moment to breathe. This was fantastic, I really cant't wait to play whatever you make next!

ShootEm? by Merrol 2018-04-25T02:53:37Z

This was honestly the best game I've played so far. What a brilliant concept! If anyone is unsure of trying this, banish that thought and just play it. Game feel is so important and so understated in most of these submissions, but you hit the nail on the head! I really admire your dedication! I really hope you get that #1 spot somewhere. "Go get em Tiger" ;)

Survival Soccer by guilhermesouza 2018-04-24T02:24:32Z

I also had a hard time kicking honestly. I like the idea a lot though!

Dancing Club Bloodlust by SpaceMonkey 2018-04-24T03:04:43Z

I loved it! Your art style is adorable and minimalistic and it totally fits the theme. The dialog got a couple chuckles out of me, reminded me of Undertale for a moment. You're "note" system is great and feels even better than great! I absolutely look forward to seeing your next submission!

Dancing Club Bloodlust by SpaceMonkey 2018-04-24T03:25:54Z

@SpaceMonkey Of course! We also had a great time, this was our first and it's so awesome to be able to connect with such an amazing community! Keep making games!!

Don't look at Greg by hankworx 2018-04-27T22:19:58Z

I am so confused but I had so much fun. I was scared and I didn't know why, it really shows how the atmosphere can effect a game. Your sprites are gorgeous, reminds me of a Double Fine game almost. Thank you for that confusing, fun, unnerving experience!

Teeny Tailors by Bobo Games 2018-04-25T02:19:50Z

This was a fantastic original idea! I had a ton of fun playing this, and I'm not really a fan of either genre. The dialogue was concise and well-written, I could feel character personality oozing out of each sprite. Overall, fantastic job!

Skate'n'Snipe by Jonathan Lorenz 2018-04-25T20:54:00Z

This was a really clever idea! I had way more fun than I thought I was gonna have honestly. Realizing you had to swap ideas near the end, you definitely pulled through! Great job!

Hella Cropper by lawnjovi 2018-04-24T02:03:37Z

I had some good laughs honestly, I actually really liked the idea as well. I did have an issue where the enemies would stop attacking me. Other than that, I enjoyed it!

Change of Pace by DoctorMozart 2018-04-24T02:43:10Z

This is by far my favorite game I've played so far! Not only did you execute the theme flawlessly, you tied it in to a great game that could stand on it's own. Special shout out to that music, it's amazing!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T01:57:31Z

The moves are completely random, and thank you for the compliments! Music definitely wasn't our strongest suit

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T02:36:07Z

Wow thank you guys so much, I'm so glad you're enjoying the game! I would've liked to match the notes with the music, but hey 72 hours right? Maybe next time, or if we continue supporting this!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T02:50:48Z

@Ripter Hey, sorry to hear that, we'd really like you to try our game. I'm gonna see if I can port it to WebGL for you!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T02:51:58Z

@SpaceMonkey We'll see ya there for sure! I'm gonna go check yours out right now.

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T03:11:15Z

@Ripter I went ahead and put a WebGL port up for you! Feel free to check it out now if you'd like, please excuse any platform-related bugs, first time building to WebGL!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T03:24:12Z

@Ripter So glad you came back to try it! It might be an issue with the port honestly. Thank you for the feedback, it's very appreciated!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T16:50:10Z

@Brendan Toy Thanks for the feedback! It definitely needs to be balanced a bit, and the music was the most difficult part for us. This was not only our first jam, but first completed game as well, we barely have skills in programming and art, let alone music haha. Thank you for playing though, I hope you had a good jam!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T22:48:04Z

@Thygrrr Thank you for the extensive feedback, it is super valuable to us as developers. Thanks for the tip about just sending a compressed file, for some reason I thought people might want to install it, which doesn't make a ton of sense in hindsight haha. I realized somewhat late in to development that I didn't consider aspect ratios, so I ended up disabling all except 16:9. This, once again, was not the hottest idea in hindsight. I hadn't realized you can set Player Settings for WebGL, I'll be sure to check that out! As for the cursor... I'm not sure what I did special. I simply added the cursor to our Windows build and it showed up on our WebGL as well. Once again, thank you so much for your detailed feedback, you are the best!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T22:49:02Z

@SecondDimension Thank you for the kind words! Yeah, we're gonna do some work to improve our music for further games for sure, as it's no easy skill. Thanks for playing!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T22:50:52Z

@Altron Thank you! I agree the rounds were quite a bit longer than I would have liked, I'll be thinking more about flow for our next game. I'm glad you had a good time, hopefully you enjoy our next game even more!

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-05-03T23:14:47Z

@Paul Avallone Thank you for the compliments! Yeah, I definitely shouldve add UI to let you leave the training screen, it was our last feature and I forgot to implement it.

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-05-03T23:16:23Z

@Relsqui If you’d like a post-jam version we would be happy to continue supporting this! We appreciate your feedback!

The Colossal Carrot Caper by rush 2018-04-24T03:35:00Z

Hey I had a great time playing this! I also suck at these games, but I still had a good time. I loved your art, and the level design was very good! Never felt too easy, or too hard. One suggestion though, you can add a link to this page on your itch.io page to link back here!

For The Dog by theomaniacal 2018-04-25T01:50:18Z

Hey, I didn't get a chance to play very much, I was having performance issues. I liked the idea, and I really love your art though. Let me know if it is something you can fix or something and ill come back and play it again!

For The Dog by theomaniacal 2018-04-25T01:59:14Z

@theomaniacal Yeah, I'm on Windows 10. I downloaded the Post Jam version, and the game started fine. Once I got to the first cutscene, the alarm was ringing for several minutes before the character woke up. I stuck through until the character awoke and my movement was very slow. If it helps, I'm on an Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop with an Intel i7 7700HQ, Nvidia 1060m, and 16gb RAM. I'm gonna download the Pre Jam version and try that out!

For The Dog by theomaniacal 2018-04-25T02:06:54Z

@theomaniacal No problem at all! I appreciate the effort either way! Once again, I love your art style, and from little parts of the game I saw, I loved. You did a great job, keep making games and I'll see ya next LD!
