I had a ton of fun with this! At first it felt a little time-consuming, but having that constant instant gratification that clicker games have made the game get more fun as it progressed. You did a great job!

Lol was a lot of fun and liked how the battle went. You probably could have reduced the time spent building troops up though.

viridiangames 2018-04-24 04:45

Thank you for playing! I felt that keeping the timer at 5 minutes was short enough but also LONG enough that the player felt he was making tactical decisions. And of course, the next time you play I put the skip in so you can go straight to part two.

Thanks for stopping by my stream to watch me play your game. I believe the video archived at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames.

I like how it really was two games in one. Tower Defense and Dating Sim, but it would have been nice if I could have seen the battle rage out. If you keep working on it, maybe the red vs blue guys will battle it out. You'd always know how many the maximum could be built and ensure blue's win, but it would be a nice visual at the end when Love fails.

Otherwise I as a player feel cheated that my guys were not used after all the work I put into clicking the button.

Yes, the subversion is supposed to be part of the game, but if I'd had just a little more time I would have made them all run in from their respective sides and kill each other. I may make a post-compo version that does that (and slows down the text and uses buttons so people see the upgrades better and runs at a higher resolution and....)

Very Nice Game, Like the idea and it's amazing that you managed to get that using your own engine less than 48 Hours! Great Job!

Really liked the surprise twist in this one. The clicker part was pretty uninteresting for me, but I'm not sure that there is much more you can do with that genre. Great work overall.

I had fun trying to optimize production - took me a second to realize the little boxes were upgrades. I was expecting a big fight, but then I got a . . . dating simulator? I was not convincing in dating the other guy, but I won the war afterward (very quickly), so I guess all that clicking paid off. Played again after, with no dating sim, and won again. Cool visuals, interesting clicker-type game behind the scenes, and neat music and sounds. Nice work!

Yeah like most people I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a major battle at the end where the guys we created fought. However it was a twist I didn't see coming and I see you were looking to introduce but didn't have time (the story of game jams). Good concept and definitely a unique game.

So now I know where the armies that are destroying my farm come from. I, too, would like to see the battle after building all those units, but the twist made up for it. It was unexpected and made me smile. Nice work!

viridiangames 2018-05-10 18:52

Yay! All I wanted was for someone to hoot with laughter after the big build-up to the battle only to get a dating sim instead :)

acoto87 2018-05-11 04:34

This was a good entry. The clicker + strategy combination is good. I think you have a prototype here for a bigger game, just add more graphic stuff and ship it! :D Great work!

bernhard 2018-05-11 07:00

I had to play it again after reading the comments >_< Bonus points for rolling your own tech! :gem:

goffmog 2018-05-11 15:45

Oh no, I was so turned off of the blue commander by his opinion on Watership Down - by far the best war novel about an improvised mission behind enemy lines.

This is a gem among LD entries, one of my top picks from this event. Please please please post your source. I actually think I might be a requirement for the compo, and you'd be surprised how many of us would love to take a peek.

At first I thought clicker + RTS was a natural combination that missed the point of the theme, but the twist absolutely nails it :)

behenate 2018-05-11 19:53

Nice entry, it's a little time consuming, but really fun. I'm impressed, that you have used your own game engine!

viridiangames 2018-05-11 23:40

@goffmog If you do things perfectly in the dating sim you can get his real opinion about the book - which is hinted at by the fact that he knew it was about rabbits :) And Watership Down is absolutely one of my favorite books. I'm trying to get my daughter to read it right now.

A source post is possible...if I can overcome my fear that everyone will laugh at how poorly it's written :)

viridiangames 2018-05-11 23:41

@Behenate Thank you! I just wish I hadn't run up against one of its limitations during development. (I swear that render stretching worked the last time I tried it!)

bernhard 2018-05-12 04:31

@ViridianGames Go on, post the source! This reminds me of my first entry in LD26 when I was contemplating about just that. I ended up distributing the engine part as a binary .LIB file and just released the game source (the part that was written in 48 hours). Last year I released my game framework [ZillaLib](https://github.com/schellingb/ZillaLib) as open source and participating got much easier :-)

goffmog 2018-05-12 11:25

Hey @ViridianGames, nobody writes good code for game jams :) But part of the reason I asked about the source is that it actually is in the rules, since yours is a compo entry https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules "Source code must be included." and I really don't want to see your game disqualified.

viridiangames 2018-05-12 13:55

@goffmog @Bernhard Okay, you're right, it's a requirement and I shouldn't be so shy :) Source released! All the libraries it depends on are open-source so putting it all together shouldn't be that hard (he said, tempting fate). Also, I'll be posting a post-mortem of the game on the blog soon.

magicera 2018-05-13 04:57

Great! Just voted it! May you try and vote my game?(RTS+FPS) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/rts-shooting
