A Walk To The Finish Line by jk5000 2017-12-04T16:04:27Z
Very fun idea. The gameplay and sound effects were very satisfying, and the graphics were cool. Very interesting level design, impressive how much detail you managed to get into the levels :)

Very fun idea. The gameplay and sound effects were very satisfying, and the graphics were cool. Very interesting level design, impressive how much detail you managed to get into the levels :)
Quite fun - the graphics look really well polished, and I quite like the theme of the game. The controls do feel a bit extreme - it feels a bit uncontrollable at times - but overall well done :)
Very interesting idea, fits the theme perfectly. The audio and graphics are great. The controls were a bit messy with a keyboard, but it was fun :)
@Raed Unfortunately not, but I can imagine it working quite well with a controller ;)
Awesome game. Really liked the music, though the car collision sounds could do with a bit of work. The graphics were really nice, and the controls were very easy to understand.
The music was a bit repetitive, didn't like how mass would spawn on top of you and trap you and I'm not really sure how this fits into the idea of 'the more *you* have'. But I liked the idea and had some fun.
Interesting idea. Antidote felt a bit slow when you had multiple dead zombies, and the background art felt like it didn't quite match the characters. But it was quite fun, and I liked the idea of building up your team, but they have a chance to mutate and kill you. Good job:)
Interesting idea. I liked the graphics and the music, though the sound effects and the music were a bit too loud for my liking, with seemingly no way to change the volume. Struggled to get the platforms right though, and when I died during a boss battle I couldn't get back in and had to restart the game :|
The music and graphics create a strong atmosphere/mood. Very interesting interpretation of the theme, I quite like the sickness mechanic. Though I agree with some of the above posts that there do need to be a few more visual cues, such as it being more clear whether the spikes are up or not and how much sickness you have
Nice idea, quite enjoyed it. Wasn't quite clear to me why we couldn't load two boxes at once, despite there being space. And also on my 2nd attempt at level 2 the lift just disappeared. Nonetheless, was fun.
I like the art, though it definitely feels like it needs to be animated. The theme of the music is nice but it gets quite repetitive. Nice idea - was quite fun, but it does feel like it's a bit of a stretch on the theme since you don't technically own more things that makes it worse...
Loved it - graphics look good, the sound effects are good, and I liked the looting system. Most of all I loved how it makes fun of loot box games ;)
@the-bm Thanks - I know what you mean about the music, will probably re-do it at some point. Never made music before, just wanted to get *something* ;)
And yes there's definitely some balancing needed with the parts and the levels
Very nice. Very funny, lovely graphics and very cheerful background music. Very well done! :)
Absolutely incredible. Music was awesome - loved how it increased or decreased speed based on how many rooms you had open. Took me 499 seconds to complete the game - little bit slower than your record :P Unfortunately a lot of times I lost rooms due to my keyboard only registering 3 keys at a time :( Very fun though
Nice graphics, sound was OK but a bit loud... the controls were a bit awkward though
Very fun, great idea. Controls are easy to understand and the physics are quite fun. Also quite liked that launch sound effect ;) Some music would be cool, but overall very nice!
Interesting idea. Movement is a bit odd though, and it could do with some audio
Good concept, but it feels like it needs a sense of danger. Some music would be great, and the text is a bit blurry.
Absolutely incredible. Eventually just imagined the routes as roads, the kids being cars trying to drive on them; I had a side of the road for a direction. Took a couple of tries for the last level, and even then it was pretty close.
Loved the music and sound effects, loved the graphics and loved the underlying concept. My only criticism I think would be, as someone mentioned above, that it you don't really know where your seat is. It felt like a lot of the time was wasted just figuring out where the seat was, and many deaths resulted in one of the previous kids running in random directions seeing where the seat was. Very fun though :)
Very fun. The owl sound effects really work well with the background, and the music is nice to listen to. It did feel a bit easy to prevent my opponent from feeding my dragon though, and somewhat difficult to launch food to the other side.
Interesting idea. The graphics are simple but work. I think it progresses a bit slowly if you aren't using some sort of clicking macro, but definitely an interesting take on the theme :)
Interesting idea. Though it was a little weird playing against myself :P It would be nice if there was a short pause after the dialog box saying what happened, just so you can take a second to check your stats. Good graphics though, and a very unique idea with the board game.
Very nice game. Definitely got it right that the stupid cats get in your way and you can't walk around them, LOL. It was nice how the different foods (and the water) were slowly introduced, and it got a bit crazy trying to manage them and feed all the cats. The graphics were very nice, and the sound was also good (though the music was a little repetitive). Have to agree with one of the comments above that the distance you can actually interact with things is a little too low, but it was great fun anyway.
Loved this. Very nice concept, with some cute graphics and some nice music. Was really addictive, and I liked how the simple mechanics were hard to get right with the levels. Definitely felt like the difficulty ramped up smoothly, and the player's goals were shown very clearly - you probably wouldn't have to read the instructions to play. Very good game.
Very interesting. The music was a bit repetitive, but I loved all the sound effects - especially the electric tower's buzzing - and the music definitely set the mood well. Graphics were amazing, and I loved how everything was interactive. Just by the way - despite the right-most tower saying it costs 7500, it actually costs 10000 - though that's a pretty small thing. Very good entry overall :)
Ha ha ha, "Rainforest". Awesome graphics, I liked the mii-style character and the overall comical style. It was pretty simple what to do (though it could maybe have been made a little more clear which racks are which), and the controls were easy to use. Loved the random quotes and the gibberish the guy was speaking. The leaderboard was also a nice addition - it was interesting to see how well you performed compared to others. Poor Joe though, he definitely got fired after those parcels fell off :S Had a good laugh about the difficulties aswell ;) Great entry overall.
Very nice. Felt very lively, and the simplistic graphics worked quite nicely. Took some time to get the hang of collecting the escape drives, and the hyperdrive map did feel a bit basic - it would be nice to at least be able to choose the jump distance. Good job overall, nice arcade feel.
Nice idea. The graphics were clean and the music, despite being a bit repetitive, was fitting for the game style. The jumping did feel a little weird, but overall a good submission.
Very nice game. Loved the graphics and the audio, though the SFX were a bit loud at times. Not sure how it's running out of space, though I couldn't get really far. The controls were OK, though it was incredibly difficult to aim the wand and actually hit the moving targets. Nice levels though, and nice variety of enemies.
Really liked this. The music and sound effects, while a little loud, gave the game a nice relaxed mood, like you're doing this while falling asleep. Very unique idea, and a nice implementation.
Nice game. Good pixel art, and nice sound effects and music. The idea behind it was also pretty good, it made it difficult that you had to not shoot too recklessly or you run out of space. Bosses didn't feel particularly special though - just higher health enemies. Perhaps add some special boss mechanics.
Interesting game. I like the graphics and the audio, and it's fun trying to stack the cats on the bed. Though I'm not entirely sure why my cats kept trying to roll to the left, it was much more difficult because of it.
Nice little platformer. I like how the textures start to disappear because the floppies are running out of space. Graphics are also good, though the character seems a bit less detailed than the terrain. The game screen being in the top left of the browser didn't feel quite right, but it was tolerable. Good job.
Very nice game. The graphics and audio were great, and the user interface was clean and easy to use. I liked the mix-up of Tetris and tower defence, and the way the parts' shapes were procedurally generated was also really cool.
Very interesting way to implement the theme. Graphics were awesome and the sound effects were great, but it could've used some music. Would have been nice if each building tooltip showed what it makes, and the ability to skip turns or get a final score once you've built on every square would be very helpful. Overall though, a very nice submission. Managed to score 5600.
Very nice. Graphics were good despite being black and white, and the music and sound were great, though a little loud. Pretty difficult, but the controls made sense and were easy to use.
Awesome game. Good graphics and audio, a nice UI and simple controls which are easy to use. The ships crashing was a bit annoying, since I'd send a ship away from the station and it'd immediately fly into a solar panel :| It wasn't too bad, but it was unfortunate that the tutorial immediately stopped when a ship crashed, despite not explaining it. Might be a nice addition to zoom in and pan around, but overall a very good, polished game.
Very nice. Great graphics, great music and sound effects, and intuitive controls which made it easy to understand. My only gripe would be that the game window is a little small - I kept clicking out of the window when trying to squash some slugs.
Very nice - I like driving cars. The graphics were great and worked together well, and the controls were easy to use. The timer is maybe a bit too short, or it takes too long for new cars to show up - I can't seem to get more than 3 or 4 cars parked. Also, one other thing - the scoreboard doesn't seem to be working, it just shows a 2 all the time :| Great entry though
I like the mix of 2D and 3D graphics here, though with the perspective sprites looked a bit odd when close to the player. The fact that your own attacks would damage buildings if you weren't careful made it a lot more fun and challenging.
The controls for aiming felt awkward at first and took a while to get used to. Overall though, a very good submission
Very good job. I like the simple art style and relaxing music. The simple puzzle system very quickly gets a lot more complicated and interesting, and it does so at a good pace
Thanks. Just thought I'd point out as it's not communicated very well - you can disconnect servers temporarily to reduce their load, and then reconnect them to continue reducing the stress on the main server. Managed to get to 151 seconds during play testing - see if you can beat that ;)
Very good game. I loved the music that played when there were errors, it gave a sense of urgency and danger. The different panels were cool, and I liked how you could interact with them. It was quite difficult, but the lack of instructions made it fun to try and figure it out. The only thing that doesn't seem to be working is the number pads - they flash the lights, but pressing the buttons doesn't seem to fix it. I liked the mood of the game, with the slightly depressing humour like 'Remember: you will be here forever'. The main menu was also a very nice touch, using the game controls for the menu
This was a fun game to play. The graphics are cute, and the music fit the mood quite well. The different abilities added some interesting game play. My only suggestions would be to make the hand slightly slower - you didn't have much time to react - and make it so you keep playing until all your fruit are gone.
This was a very fun game to play. Very cool and unique idea, and an interesting take on the theme. I like how your meme was actually visible on the posters - it was funny seeing my poorly drawn memes. At first it felt a bit too easy, but it definitely became more difficult as posters became in short supply - I only managed 19/33 posters and 5/7 people. The music was a bit loud and got a bit repetitive after a while, but it fit the mood of the game very well
Very nice game. I like how the creature grows and the scale of things it can eat grows with it. One small problem is that it feels a bit strange when it looks like you've eaten all the things, but there are one or two small objects that haven't been eaten. Some music would be nice, but the concept was quite unique and fun to play
An excellent game. Cute graphics, and a well-executed game mechanic. The graphics and audio felt very well polished, and the music does not feel too repetitive compared to a lot of other games. Well done - 5/5
Very interesting idea - simple, but well executed. Some sound or music would add a lot, but this is already very impressive.
This is a lot of fun. The controls and the general concept are very intuitive, and you very quickly learn how to play. I also like how you can adjust the timer yourself so you can keep improving on your own score, and see how quickly you can complete each map. Managed to get a score of 5800 with a timer of 2.5s so far.
This is brilliant - the concept is fairly simple, yet it becomes more and more stressful very quickly, and you have to pay very close attention to what you are clicking on. One thing I would suggest though is to make the distinction between * and + a bit more clear; there were cases where they looked very similar and I wasn't sure which it was.
Wow - disappointed I didn't see this sooner. Solid gameplay, great music, beautiful art. Only got to level 45 with 1777 souls farmed, but it was great fun.
As a fan of Kerbal Space Program, and space in general, I quite liked this. Did feel a bit odd that you couldn't move the camera to see where enemies are - a few times I didn't know where to go. Though I liked leveling up my ship and trying to setup orbits and shooting enemies. Cool game! :)
Interesting idea. I like the sound effects and music, they fit the space theme well. As always I enjoy it a little bit more because it's sci-fi and set in space ;)
Interesting idea, certainly two themes/genres you'd be unlikely to find anywhere else. The music and sound effects are fun and set the mood pretty well. However I felt like the rooms were all kind of ... same-y. You go in, check for enemies, open crates/take stuff, then leave. Not entirely sure if looking around is related to anything, it didn't feel like it at least. Maybe some more actions and some kind of level map you have to navigate through by knowing what each room looks like?
Very fun, interesting how being turn-based changes it. Bit easier than usual flappy games in my opinion, but it's still fun
LOL! This is fun. But incredibly difficult; I struggled to even get past the spikes on the second platform, couldn't type fast enough :( Great idea though
Awesome aesthetics. I love how the use of text characters to represent images, especially those smoke effects. It's also pretty cool how all the levels can be seen and how you can see that they're linked. The sound effects are very fitting for the graphics style. And I like the little details of how the tiles tiles go red when you die near them ;) As a few others have mentioned above, the respawn timer does seem a little long, and sometimes when you die the falling platforms didn't get reset.
Very fun game. The idea was well executed, and has some very nice art and catchy music to go with it.
I quite like this. The mechanics are fun, the art is incredible, and the music and sound effects fit well together. Personally I couldn't get past the level with the invisible blocks, but I may just need to try a few more times ;)
Very fun, interesting game. I like how the controls are simple, and how you need to think about where you want to place your pieces. Overall very enjoyable - looks like a game that'd do well on mobile ;)
Well that was certainly... unique. Funny quotes, great art, and some great audio.
Cool game. Though it feels like the point at which you can press the key is a bit too unforgiving at times
It's an interesting idea, but it feels like it needs a bit more work. While I agree with the people above that waiting for letters is annoying, I think the real problem is that the user doesn't have enough control. I would suggest making the movement closer to the likes of Super Mario Bros where you can move left/right but can't go back. And the platforms should probably be less high up ;). Also, not sure if it's intentional, but you often can't jump when on a platform and you move faster. Though for your first game with a new engine it's not bad
As a fan of planes in general, I quite enjoyed it. The controls felt like they worked well (though not sure about X being brakes... hmm), and I liked the mechanic of shooting down the blocks in chains. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to shoot down the turrets (can you even?). That's a small issue though. The flying felt realistic and I loved the plane model :)
I quite liked this. The graphics were great, as was the audio. The mechanics were quite interesting, and there is a surprising number of levels. I struggled on one of the levels where you could be detected while still in ghost strike, because you'd slowly float up into an enemy's view. It certainly made you think a bit when you didn't have enough moves for what you wanted to do - good job :)
The lack of audio is a bit of a shame, but that pixel art is beautiful :)
I like this. The were well put together, despite being "placeholder". I liked the mechanics, but it took me a while to understand them... sorta. I don't think I really get it, but it was cool making my horse go 2nd place:)
Interesting game. Ended with a score of 318, with 50 farms... though the bots don't really provide a challenge. Don't know if anyone was hosting a server, but I'd recommend making some tougher bots for people who just want to play singleplayer :)
@L14 Game Studio Thanks, I agree - I had underestimated how much work it'd be getting the wiring system working and setting up circuits ;) Definitely planning on expanding it and adding more. I also agree about the UI and options to exit - I realised like 2/3 hours before the end that I needed a UI so I assembled one as fast as possible :S
Also I have just built a web version and created a page on itch.io for it: https://noxbuds.itch.io/red-shirt-engineer
@good-enough Thanks for the feedback - to be honest I thought it wouldn't be much of a puzzle if you just directly connected the inputs to the outputs ;) Also I suspect what you're talking about with not moving forwards is that the background is misleading... it really needs some kind of scrolling. What's probably happening is the enemy is moving at the same time and direction, and since the ships move at the same speed it looks like you're not moving. I'll definitely look into making a scrolling background which seems appropriate :)
@andwhatnotetc You turn by only activating one of the thruster groups at a time ;)
@radical-dog Thanks for the suggestion, definitely needs some UI work :)
@mrspeaker LOL - that quote is relatively speaking I guess ;) Thanks for the feedback
@ben-pearson Thanks! Definitely agree that there needs to be a tutorial system, and a way to tell where your enemy is if they're off-screen.
@tsjost Thanks for the feedback! I definitely plan to expand the game a bit and improve the UI a lot more :)
Very nice combination. The sound is pretty good, though a little loud. I like how you've linked Space Invaders (space shooter) to Scrabble. However it feels like you should be able to pickup letters while they're still blue - I accidentally placed an 'L' in the wrong place and couldn't pick it up :(. Overall very good job:)
Got a score of 38,460. Pretty cool game, I like it - but the pieces feel a bit loose sometimes. And the capsule mechanic is a bit confusing at times :S
I quite like this. Wonderful art, great background music and sound effects, the voice acting was pretty amusing. Only criticism would be the finnicky mouse controls, but I guess it's designed for controllers so that's fine :Pscreenshot.png
Pretty fun game. I like the sound effects and the graphics. Though the health of the balls wasn't really clear, and when I pressed next level at the end of level 1 it took me to level 1 again.
Hah. While the controls felt a bit odd and it felt a bit wrong to use arrow keys+mouse, it was quite good. The idea of the game is funny and I liked the animation of the player frantically cycling. Though it felt like you couldn't really throw properly... water bottles just exploded right next to the player?
I loved this. Great idea which was well-executed. I liked the graphics style, and the music gave it a nice medieval feel while also being relaxing. As an improvement I would suggest making some sound effects for playing cards, but even without sound effects it's a great game. Unlike quite a few games I actively want to keep playing this ;)
"This is really remarkably difficult" - Backwards L. . Been looking forward to playing this. From the screenshots in your blog posts I thought "How hard could this possibly be? I mean, it's only Tetris"... what an incorrect assumption. Despite being incredibly difficult, especially once you reach level 4, it is an incredibly fun game, with a very unique and well-executed twist. And the story mode was like the icing on the cake - it kept me playing, for I had to be strong for the Tetronominoes! Well done.
flappy blocks 16 lines.png
Can't stop playing this :| By the way, it seems that despite the blue zig-zag being introduced in the story mode, it's not actually in the pool of available pieces until you get to endless mode...
Overall interesting game, though it feels like it needs some sound. I like how you have to think about which tiles next to you will have a bullet in them next turn, certainly an interesting variation of a puzzle game.
I like it. As the first comment said, it took a while for me to realise that you had to click the button when it said 'Go', and it did feel like the time you were allowed to start clicking felt a bit too short - I often missed attacks. However, the mechanics are really cool - I like how you can charge up your attacks or just do a small attack. And I loved the sound effects, they were great ;D
Interesting idea. Though the controls are a bit difficult to get right, especially having to hold in space first before releasing it and hitting the ball. As above, a lack of sound is a bit of a shame, but it looks pretty cool.
