This is the most cursed game I've ever played. thanks for showing me just how awful while loops can be. 10/10 would play again.

An almost perfect 2045 :) Just a few more points and I would have had a nice round 2048!!!
Nice game, very creative and I loved the BSOD sound right before the PC died, Awesome game.
Screen Shot 2020-10-04 at 5.28.09 pm.png
This game feels like the closest I've ever come to actually programming something. Terrifying.
Genius!
Very, very cool entry! Nice and simple mechanic, super-fitting on the theme, and almost as frustrating as programming itself :D
This is why I avoid while loops. Amazing game!
Your game is really fun! Enjoyed the idea and the gameplay. Missclicked here and there but managed to get at least a positve score. :D
screenshot2.png
thanks I hate it
This is like what I made, but way better! Nice work!
Fun! score.PNG
nice game, good job. I like the polished feel to it.
Really like the audio for PlayRandomSound(). Those frustrating windows popping up right over where I was going to click, then the one I wanted disappearing! Still fun through the frustration. The commands between loops were fun too. I didn't realize I should have gotten a screenshot of my 4000+ score before I closed the page, so I could brag.
Nothing to say more than well play,i followed the dev, and i'm happy with the final product. Congrats !
very nice old style dialog mess game, i like it a lot and played for too long (have to play other games too :)). in the default size, the font is a bit hard to read (maybe intentional) and it is quite strange, how much you can get stressed about these dialogs poping up and disapearing :-)
I'm completely loving it, holy, this is way too accurate to be true. You adapted to the topic and made something that is really yours! I didn't manage finding the easter egg but had great fun!
@dominium11 actually the easter egg is a bug that I declared a feature :D
Haha, brilliant take on the theme, and fun game as well!
This might be one of the few games which is less stressful if played with muted sounds. But on the other hand, that would mean missing out on the nice RandomSounds :D
Very stressful (and fun) game - these Windows error sounds haunt us in our own personal stuck loop ;)
Overall one of the funniest games I played this Ludum Dare. Good job there pal.
This is a brilliant game. Love the way you spun this and the graphical style is top notch for the theme that you pushed. While playing I had an actual windows popup and was a bit confused when nothing showed up on screen.
Amazing game, you even learn some coding and simple math. Thanks for that one!
@vanea @tolmera @123seven3 @peace-of-cake-games
Thank you for the feedback. Don't forget to rate the game, now that rating is enabled!
@tommy @quak @rhewid @crazi456 @untitled-studios @xenon27 @testuser @vollfeiw @merkisoft @somnium @manspider @ryan-hallmann @danielcmcg
Thank you for the kind words. I did not expect the feedback to be this positive. I am glad you all enjoyed playing
For the Highscore hunters in you here are the dev scores for the current version to beat:

I loved this. It was pretty funny trying to frantically get out of the loop. Really good job! I only got a score of 35 but it was really interesting trying to manage different variables. I found it difficult to concentrate on the many pop-up windows so if that's the intent, A++. I do have to say, the colour changing background was difficult for me as well, it left me with a bit of a headache, although maybe playing fullscreen may have contributed to that too. Overall, great game!
Amazing! Great take on the theme, and evethough it was a complete chaos when I got to B variable... well that´s what you get when you play with While loops. Great stuff! Thank you for such entry!
Holly molly, you actually need to read warning/error messages? NO WAY! :smirk:
Simple, but slightly addictive game. It reminded me of the times when I had Windows 98 which was terribly infected with viruses.
And that's it, it's hard to add some suggestions, as the game seems to be a complete product. Very nice entry!
This is great. Not much of a programmer myself but still enjoyed it!!
Great windows simulator. But seriously funny take on the theme
Fantastic game! Would have liked to see smaller quantities to reach, like (x < 100) for the first one? Seems like the best part of this game is the writing and humor, and waiting for random boxes to appear just delays that. Would really like to see this expanded on so that the player has more agency and there is more 'doing' vs waiting. Well done!
reallyFinalyVersion7 is the best joke of the jam. Really hits home.
This is a very neat idea! It took me a while to get to grips with it, but once I figured out what was going on, I thought the concept was very clever. :) Having your score also be a manipulatable variable was a very nice touch, and made for some very interesting choices!
The random background level was a liiiiiiiiiiittle hard on the eyes, but all-in-all I really enjoyed the personality as a whole. I appreciate the fact that the game actively tries to prevent you from processing information. It's pretty antithetical to typical game design, but in this case it works to great comedic effect. xD
Polish was also top-notch as well, awesome job!
Cool game liked the while loops idea.
Oh my, who even is this programmer?! Really great execution! The humour was also on point.
I thought the symbol between the conditions was an OR at first but otherwise no issues.
stuck in loading screen :(
Great game really good idea and great take on the theme!
This is a great game! Really good job applying the theme in the best way ive seen yet. Also, knowing your audience has a lot of developers and whatnot who get the humor. Just a great job all around. One thing though: Several times it said "while(x<500 || a<800)" but you had to get both numbers greater than. Either the operator should be "&&" or you should only need to get one number above the level!
@remzo it is supposed to be or. if X or A or B is below the treshold the while loop continues ;)
Only once all three are above the treshold the while loop breaks
@superunknown same as I said too remzo. it has to be "or" since the condition does not say when the loop breaks but when the loop continues.
if X or A or B is below the treshold the while loop continues ;)
Only once all three are above the treshold the while loop breaks
@convg hmm that is a first, no one else has had issues. maybe try to clear browser cache and cookies or try a different browser?
While (true) { Console.WriteLine("Fuck while loops"); }
@ausstein Ha, of course :P I must've flipped the conditions in my head as to what I had to accomplish to break the loop and got confused.
@remzo yeah while loops are confusing and you can easily mess them up, which is the whole point of the game :D
If it is of any consolation, I showed the game to my mother who has been coding for over 30 years now, and she said shouldn't it be "and"
Brilliant to make a programming game at a game jam
Great game, brings back terrible memories!
Hi there ! Thanks for submitting your game to my stream (twitch.tv/drjavasaurus). I really enjoyed this one ! I might actually forward this one to the colleagues at work as some of them are big fans of nested while loops ;) Anyway, the simple artstyle still feels great and totally fits the game you're going for. I had serious Win95 vibes ! It's a great concept where you have to think quickly on your feet. Well done !
Nice atmosphere, the old windows theme well executed, I like it. Sounds are awesome, those popups are a bit annoying, so i guess they work as intended :D On a 21:9 aspect ratio it seems like some popups are not completly visible.
I love the concept of the game. Very creative!
Amazing humor sprinkled in between otherwise frustrating programming. Just like the average day at a programming job. A perfect game to continue with work at home (feeling stuck in a loop). Jokes aside great game!
Wow, stressful and well written. Great sound and music. Got some weird flashbacks from all the pop-ups and window sounds haha. Really entertaining and well done. My favorite game so far.
played this while on a break, like you suggested :D
Really dig the humour. The game really shows how conditioned we are to just click away without really thinking about it :D (and with "we" I of course mean "me").
Super creative. Very different than anything I have seen today. Keep up the good work!
Tons of fun figuring out how to break the loop, very creative!
The only thing missing is [this](https://answers.unity.com/storage/temp/73063-555.jpg)
Creative game, super fun to play through! One of my favorites that I've seen so far. The atmosphere of the game really sells it as well, haha.
Absolutely fantastic game! Such a simple concept but really well executed, funny and fun! Well done!!
Wow that game was too smart for me
Awesome game :D
Wow, I'm blown away by the level of polish in something so simple. One little exploit I enjoyed finding early on was that if I simply pressed ok on all the popups as quickly as possible I could get through "stage" after stage with relative ease and increase my score very rapidly. My first playthrough ended with a score of over 50,000!
The humor, mood, sound effects and graphics were on point, it was a fun little experience <3 web.PNG
Wow. What a concept. Reminded me of papers please. 5/5
I didn't do very well, but I did enjoy it. Very hectic and requires fast reading. Might help from the font being 1-2 points larger, just so that it's ever so slightly easier.
Fantastic all around. Clever (and frustratingly familiar ;)) gameplay. The graphics and audio really help tie everything together. Lots of small, nice touches, like the BSOD. Sometimes it was a little annoying when the pop-ups covered up the relevant variables - but perhaps this was an intentional annoyance.
This was hilarious- I love the loading screen text. It perfectly coincides with how I felt during the game jam. Heh! What a fun little bit of core gameplay. The sounds were dead on too. It was simple, but really well done! NICE! A small suggestion, I think my boyfriend would love this game, but that color changing background would eff him up- maybe make a smol accessibility option that mutes the colors or does some other.. distracting thing?
Very cool! I like how you started throwing extra things to manage into the mix later on like more variables and managing brightness. It's one of those games that's annoying, but in a good way. This idea lends itself very well to forcing the player to make snap-decisions; "Do I get extra score at the cost of fan speed?" In practice, for me at least, the popups happen too fast to do this kind of management, and I just closed anything that seemed remotely bad. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not; the game seems well-balanced so maybe you already realized it's more fun to have everything happen faster.
The audio fit really well and the humor was super-relatable to anyone that's ever participated in a game jam! Good job!
While loops is a nice game :)
This is really well done, and a great take on the theme. It felt a little hectic trying to read the popups before they went away, but I think that was probably part of your goal! Overall great work, this is a really solid entry!
Really neat idea! The music is way too relaxing for the stress I'm experiencing! Haha. The aesthetics and humor were on point with this one though. Great job!
"reallyFinalVersion7" while loading in was too real :D Super well polished and really funny. Wasn't expecting to have to start dealing with additional variables and fan speed, really great overall submission :)
Really fun game with a solid concept well executed 10/10 on the theme
while (player.enjoyedGame()) { print("Nice game!"); } > Nice game! > Nice game! > Nice game! > Nice game! ... (Player died from overheating)
Spot on with the theme. Pretty funny and I enjoyed the spam pop up frustration.
Very cool idea, really took me back to the days of pop-ups though. Very cool was progression mechanic too. I liked that I couldn't just mindlessly close them because I had to pay attention to what they were doing. Great job!
Love your idea and the flawless execution!
It was really fun,But started getting a bit confusing because you have to check the temp , fan speed, variable and the small font did not help,It is a great balance of fun.
Even in games these popups are annoying
Very nice entry :thumbsup_tone1:
:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:
Relly fun for some reason. This might be a pretty good mobile game! It was really fun try to figure out what button to press. When I got past the first while loop I thought the game was over. But u bigbrained me and made another variable. 10/10 would blow up my PC again.
Definitely one of more unique implementations of theme! I do love that itch.io website fits the theme as well
Couldn't really figure out when the game properly started, but I guess that's a testament to how in-theme it is, so congrats on what must have been a headache to program, I commend you!! Also the background music is incredibly relaxing with the typing and clicking background.
what can i say, these cursed looops!!!!!!!!
Init() { GenerateRandomCommentary(); }
"Hah! that was nice! You rock!"; "Awesome!!"; "Cool"; "Must see!"; "Innovative!!";
But really, I've got a lot of fun playing this, good job!:)
Wow, was actually much harder than I expected! Still, overall really nice game
Good entry, very interesting and a simple mechanic ;)
Nice job! I really liked the art style.
This was hilarious! A fun little clicker game with the nice spin on it of having to think before clicking. Would love to see where the game could evolve further, but not sure that's the point haha! Well done!
Nice game and very original. The gameplay is simple but very fun !
I thought on doing a game on while loops but did not think it'd be cool. This was quite cool lol
Explain the theme directly, and perfectly. I give it high score in theme.
Very enjoyable! I have to admit though, the (basically) unskippable cutscenes between each playable section did slightly put me off replaying enough to finish. The jokes were funny, but there weren't really enough to avoid repetition on one run, let alone multiple.
Original and takes good the topic!
This was very creative! I also really like the art style. Nice job!!!
Really nice! We thought of doing something with while loops but didn't come up with anything interesting, I'm glad someone managed to make a good game out of that idea!
It is a bit hard but it's fun.
Really enjoyed it, the joke with the bluescreen was really funny.
This needs an epilepsy warning ^^ Nice entry.
@ausstein you bastard I'm more rested and I'm ready for another go at this xD. Also updated my game to have a speedrun timer. Love your game btw, super fun and creative, just wish the rgn was a bit more forgiving... -PomoTheDog
Should have called it WhileOops.
Hahah great game! Simple concept, gets challenging pretty quickly. Love the BSOD endscreen!
Press any key to detect your keybord, horror game, if not the creative loops you had! Nice submission! Great wat to summary the score.
Phenomenal! Font made some of the symbols hard to identify at speed, not sure if that was intended for difficulty, if so, makes total sense lol!
This is the best application of the theme I've seen so far!
Thanks, I hate it. Played it on my stream, here's the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/762084592
A very creative and challenging game. Great work!
Wow that was ... stressful. Certainly a unique game and the idea worked very well!
It took me a long time to find out how it works. But when I have done it I have been hooked a lot. Very good idea!
This is great but it reminded me that I suck at Loops so thanks for that! Seriously though good work this was a clever idea.
Love it. My team joked about doing a while loop, but we did´t believe you could actualy make a game out of it.
Awesome idea! I actually was thinking about making a game about a programming loop, but it wouldn't be half as good as yours!
Wow. Good idea and interesting game. I like it!!!
Guys, we are doing MATH!
This is fun! I made it to the second level, but then things went sideways :) . Great game!
So original and fun!
Pretty intereting take on the theme. Very stressful at times, so the small breaks between levels are appreciated.
It took me a while to figure out what to do but once I got the hang of it I loved it. The game is totally original, it fits the theme perfectly, the music in the background is really chill, there is plenty of humour, and the mood is a great mix of calm and exciting. I will probably find myself playing this game often. I think this deserves a perfect 5 star rating! Excellent game!! (I was not bribed by the way)
Really was able to re-capture the stress of having to fix a build problem with an hour before the deadline. Great job.
Wow this game was super fun. It's almost like DOS version of Papers Please and this is the highest my heartrate has been in a while. Awesome job!
This game manages to build up tension quite nicely. It is simple yet engaging.
coool, I loved it a loooot, too bad popup messages can't be moved around and get closed by themselves, but it was fun, good job.
Anxiety boost when the game gets tense! Pretty nice idea and execution.
@dracominer @nerdytopic @coleslaughte
Do you guys think a version with changing font color would be better? Or should I do something entirely different?
@rhoff95
Thx for the Feedback!
I already decreased the first loop from 1000 to 500.
The problem with going even further is that I run out of jokes too fast :D Plus I wanted to give the player some time to really understand the concept before I start spamming him with pop ups. It is always hard to find the right balance for a game jam audience. You seem to have gotten the concept instantly, but that is not true for everyone. Introducing even more would have made the game too confusing for most I think. Although I also think that it would be more fun.
@rein
is the font a problem at the default size or at fullscreen. Maybe I should add that I recommend fullscreen
@all Thank you so much for playing and leaving these lovely comments. Reading through them makes my entire day everytime. You guys are awesome <3
This one hit right in my anxiety with the constant pop ups and quick clicking. It gets very hard to come back if you go too far in the wrong direction but it's normal. Very fun game and scaling difficulty.
This is pretty original, although I though it won't be when I saw the title. I really enjoyed the game!
Cool concept! Good luck
This game... is beyond amazing. That is all that needs to be said. Finished with a score of 2604.
I hated and loved every moment.
Really great game. Love how you have used the theme and built a code loop with references to Ludum Dare.
This game is the worst - in the best possible way!
I love the idea, and the random sounds make it very funny !
AMAZING GAME!!!! Loved everything, the humour is on point. Maybe it could use some balancing to make sure you can't lose to bad luck, although I'm pretty sure it was my fault lol
Very clever concept, and the gameplay was surprisingly fresh for a game about while loops
I loved all the little details, like the flavortext commands being executed -- "Hiding Easter Eggs" -- complete with typing sound effects, and all the random changes happening during each for loop.
Awesome job!
Too much fun! This game is brilliant. Simple but smart and effective mechanic. Very polished entry that I will want to keep playing. It's just absurd in an endearing way. Made me laugh (then cry). Well done. :D
Actually quite fun, although it get a bit repetitive. Nice job.
Nicely done! But... 42758? Sure there's no cheat code?
Simple but very exciting game, great on all aspects. Congrats!
@ghuyajil No cheat you need to get to loop number 6-7 and then have some luck with the multipliers. They can go over 2x in the later loops. If you have a score of maybe 4000 going into loop 6 you only need to find 3-4 good multipliers. In a dev version that was not much different to the current version I scored over 700 000 which is just 3 more good multipliers.
The growth starts mostly linear but it goes exponential rather quickly ;)
Cool game! It takes some time to figure out what is going on, but once you get it, it goes smoothly.
I love the artstyle, especially Win3.11 - styled dialog boxes and most certainly the blue screen of death :) Nice job!
Nice idea, although a bit random obv^^ The sound effects cracked me up XD
Nice job!! Really felt the anxiety build up with all the popups  :cold_sweat:
@ausstein Aha, alright, it seemed more linear, I hadn't noticed that the multipliers went up more and more. Well done!
Nice idea. Good game.
That's some 5's for the theme and innovation, rest isn't bad either. I have no constructive feedback to provide: this game is just complete.
They say 'nam flashbacks are bad? This is unimaginably worse XD
LOL
Interesting idea, but very frustrating to play.
Brilliant but also waaaay too hard waaaaay too fast. I barely won round 1 and round 2 made me hide behind my chair so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Nice sound design though!
Nice work
Nice little game, it only costs you 5 minutes and a few hundred photoreceptor cells.
Eventually I figured out how it really works (didn't read description), smart game.
I'm one of the few participants here who has 0 knowledge of coding and maybe that's why it isn't causing the SAN damage that my coder is apparently suffering at this very moment.
I immediately had to ask them what || even meant. Niche but funny.
This is my single favourite implementation of the theme in the whole jam so far, good job. Frustrating, anxiety-inducing, absolutely cursed, fantastic work.
Best game hands down. I love everything about it. SO CLEVER AND SO FUNNY, 5s all the way down. It is so chaotic in the best way, great job :)
I love a lot of things here: the humor, the metalanguage, the risk/reward thing where sometimes you have to lower a variable (or even the score!) in order to keep the system working...
PS: as someone said above, playing fullscreen on a 21:9 screen causes some popups to appear out out reach.
LMAO.. Such a fun game.. Sensory Overload for sure.. I had a blast, GOOD job
I love the balance of score and progression. Very funny game. The 3rd stage gets hard really fast for me. Love the idea of going for highest negative score.
Soooo fun. Damn! How do you think of a concept like this? High marks on innovation and fun for sure!
I liked how the graphics of the game was designed to give an authentic computer terminal theme as this was great for expressing the mood of the game. I also found the idea of having to deal with multiple popups in a limited amount of time to be pretty challenging as it forced me to make split-second decisions and sacrifices without much forethought. The gameplay was quite adrenaline inducing and fun. However, I did not like the fact that there was no evident way to decrease the CPU temperature. I disliked this because I felt like I did not have much agency to postpone defeat as my skills alone could not stop the CPU temperature increasing indefinitely.
P.S. The word "program" in the game is spelled incorrectly.
Hey, thanks for stopping by the stream today -- if you're interested the VOD is posted here:

Cool, challenging, innovative, funny game :)
Pretty simple, in terms of game play and graphics, but it does everything very well. Easy to grasp the concept, and super fun in all its hectic glory.
Didn't play for too long, but I enjoyed the whole time, and was satisfied when I lost :p
Perfect difficulty, and the difficulty curve is great.
Music is kinda calming for how hectic the game is, but still fits somehow.
Innovative? Definitely.
Good job!
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!

@elysiagriffin I forgot to ask on stream, what is your opinion o the classic Windows 2000 button feedback :D
@ausstein it was excellent, 10/10 would press again
I'm honestly kind of astounded at the mileage you managed to get from this game. I have no idea how just pressing OK or Cancel managed to be fun, but this game is legit. One of the simplest and straightforward concepts I've seen so far this LD, but it just goes to show that execution is key. Great entry!
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/764573572?t=00h46m23s
Chmm, that game is really fun, good for you :). Almost nailed that theme, but it still very thing what I imagine as this theme.. Inovative and good gameplay for me. Not too horiblle art but next time try invest time more into art. Overall game is very very good, it is very good work, I love it.
Nice take on the theme! Simple idea but making the cost/benefits analyses under time pressure leads to some interesting (and intense!) gameplay
This... was amazing! I could legitimately just sit and listen to the music loop for a couple of hours and just chill out. It reminds me vaguely of like, N64 Zelda Ocarina of Time running across Hyrule Field and just being young Link and smashing pots and stuff. The amount of "+=
This was fantastic! Each pop-up made me more and more anxious and it became overwhelming quickly, which is good! Definitely a unique idea for being stuck in a loop, I never even thought about while loops being a possibility. Absolutely nailed it with this game, I really love it!
This is brilliant - the concept is fairly simple, yet it becomes more and more stressful very quickly, and you have to pay very close attention to what you are clicking on. One thing I would suggest though is to make the distinction between * and + a bit more clear; there were cases where they looked very similar and I wasn't sure which it was.
Really cool, really innovative!
This is very fun and working experience. Great entry!
Hahahahah, thanks for good laugh and wide smile : D
Super creative interpretation of the theme, great job! I am curious about the backstory, what was your first idea before your game crashed due to infinite loop? : P
A bit hectic, but definitely a blast. Sound effects and presentation were very good, I enjoyed clicking away at the neverending onslaught of popups. Nice work!
Hilarious, original, fun and perfectly fitting the theme. We got ourselves a fantastic LD47 entry right here!
Super creative and funny concept. Loved the sound design, I could see the keyboard the player was typing on just through the sounds of the keys.
Very funny, wasn't expecting this game to be what it is at all xD Loved the backing track and audio for the game, it really solidified the light hearted experience. Gameplay was frantic and exciting, if intentionally stress inducing. A little hard to read some of the messages sometimes before they disappeared but otherwise perfect execution!
Interesting idea! I really was a bit afraid of burning my non-existential computer hahaha. Good job!
this was incredibly stressful, I'm not sure how to give critical feedback on such perfection, good job!
Is it even possible to win? Incredible concept, execution, sound, gameplay, graphics. 5/5.
