LD38 — A Small World

Little Wild Invasion by Titangea 2017-05-07T06:13:15Z

Extremely difficult. It took me a lot of tries to even get enough power-ups to use my power. Before I did, I wasn't sure if the game was bugged or not because nothing happened when I pressed space.

The game could be improved if the player had more feedback and control over the power-up mechanic. For instance, if you start the player with a small amount of energy, and instead of requiring the bar to be full, let the player dash when they're holding space, and have the energy decrease when the player is running.

Beautiful graphics! Best I've seen so far!

Colonial Kart World by adamalexander 2017-05-06T03:28:42Z

This is the most fun game I've found of the jam so far! Very good audio and graphics. I like your decision to put one person in each boat, it fit the low-poly style well and gives the player's ship more personality.

I keep coming back to this. My girlfriend just said to me, "You're playing that game again? That's the only one you play!" Good job! :)

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mr. Cheeks Sweet Dreams by MrTroy 2020-10-21T12:25:21Z

So cute! :hamster: Going with a Halloween theme was really clever and seems obvious in hindsight, but this was the first entry I've seen to do that. The graphics, audio, and mood were all perfect and I especially enjoyed the chiptunes. Having a victory song was also a nice touch. Great job!

Looper Cooper by Imphenzia 2020-10-26T01:23:27Z

First of all, I really appreciate you and your youTube channel! I found you a week before the jam. This was my first game that actually had graphics and animation instead of capsules and cubes, thanks to you! Your videos are all over the end of my timelapse. Thanks to you, I know to press E to extrude, S to scale.

As to the game, it's really fun! Very addictive gameplay, even though it's hard to control. It's very polished, especially for a compo game! I really like the graphics and the explosions are epic. Awesome job!!

Shadow Loop by Mekuri 2020-10-07T03:16:39Z

Nice game. The interface looks really good, but I guess that's to be expected. :stuck_out_tongue: The audio is good too and the music and graphics make for a nice mood. I like your idea of limiting yourself to just using the Unity UI system. Using Unity's UI has always been a weak point for me; I bet you're an expert on it now!

The Backseat Gamer by Daniel C 2020-10-18T18:29:13Z

Funny! I like the meta-narrative that I'm playing an amateur game-developer's game. You've cleverly created a story reason to justify any limitations due to this being a jam game. But sometimes the voice-over audio would repeat or play overlapping clips which was harder to overlook.

It was nice to see an FPS in Ludum Dare; this is the first one I've played out of 40-some entries. I would've liked if you gave me enough ammo to actually play it like an FPS though; I kind of just had to run through and dodge everything while also "appreciating" as many things as I could. I guess that was the point but it was a little disappointing that you made all those weapons and enemies and I couldn't really interact with them too much. It's a short little experience but that's good for a jam game, and it made me laugh. Good job!

Pre Call by zimennik 2020-10-12T22:50:39Z

Nice little game. The graphics are quite good. It felt very complete with its menu and tutorial. The theme connection is... funny. :stuck_out_tongue: It's one of those hectic-but-fun games. Good job!

Repeater by notime4games 2020-10-27T04:03:28Z

Woah that was hard! I made it through in the end though! Luckily the comments clued me in that there was an actual game here and not just an endless loop.

Great pixel-art with good music and really satisfying combat. Great job!

C - O - I - I - L by Ace17 2020-10-07T02:51:10Z

I liked that you can pause the game with the pause key, but I'm so used to being able to bring up a menu with esc I accidentally exited the game twice.

I gave up before I could complete it; I never could find the blue X cube and I never really figured out how the maze is laid out. I might come back to this though because I really want to finish it.

You did a great job with the atmosphere and mood! I can't believe those perfect underwater sounds were just you blowing bubbles into a glass! This game seemed really simple but I felt like it was somehow more engaging than it had any right to be. I guess that's because of the mood. Great job!

A.C.E. by awerar 2020-10-07T02:22:28Z

I encountered a bug on level 7 (I think it was 7, the first level with three robots). I recorded a sequence for the guy who was at the top in a little room on his own, but when I tried the solution he didn't do what I had recorded at all. I had him pick up a box and run against the door until his buddy could let him out, then he was supposed to let the other guy into the room and drop off his box before going to the charging pad. I spent a lot of time recording the actions of the two others before I tried the solution, so when it didn't work I gave up.

The guy by himself was recorded running into the door with his box in his hand so when the door was opened he'd run through it. It worked when I was setting up everything but when I played the solution, he glitched through the door early, which may have messed up the rest of his playback. He then went over to the charging pad still holding his box. I hope you're able to replicate and fix this game-breaking bug because I really wanted to finish the game, but I'm not going to count this against you in terms of rating.

This is more or less a perfect jam game! The graphics are gorgeous, I liked the audio, the mood is good, and the gameplay matches the theme. The controls are a little bit overwhelming at first, and I don't think using the RMB to switch characters is mentioned anywhere.

Your game idea is really innovative and well-executed, and I'm super-jealous of your puzzle-design skills. Awesome job!!

Solar Edge by mar3k 2020-10-09T04:10:27Z

Wow it's sooooo hard! But you managed to make a lot of game in 48 hours! I do wish it was easier, but after 2 hours of playing it I finally managed to beat it! Luckily I didn't try too hard to get uranium because not having 80 doesn't stop you from leaving the system (frankly I couldn't really risk losing anyone until I got to the last planet). I was about to give up when I saw the last planet reaching 400 degrees and only had about 12 uranium, but I'm glad I decided to see what happened anyway.

I'm really, really impressed with what you managed to make in 48 hours. Great job!!

Friday Night Funkin by Cameron Taylor 2020-10-24T23:43:15Z

Woah it's really cool to see a rhythm game implemented for Ludum Dare.

It was a good decision to have the dad play the song first, because that makes it easier for the player to get the beat without having to replay, which is good for a jam game. Although I will say that I found this entry via itch.io and that mechanic wasn't obvious to me at first, but it would have been if I saw this page first. I got it after failing the level once anyway.

I wasn't sure if it was me or not but sometimes it seemed like my inputs weren't registering, and it was weird seeing "bad combo" come up when there were still notes I needed to play on the screen.

I really liked the graphics and animation, and I liked the vocaloid-ish singing and music. Overall I'm just really impressed that you pulled-off this game for Ludum Dare. Great job!

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-10T18:13:40Z

Dude, this would have been a perfectly fun game if you made it in Unity over a week. The fact that you made it in 6502 assembly for the NES in 72 hours just blows my mind. Awesome job!!

Lone Racer by gwheel 2020-10-08T04:59:15Z

I've never raced a bumper car before, lol. At first I didn't understand why the background was shifting around but when I realized it was perspective changing I thought it was cool. I get experimental-art vibes from this. The controls are hard to get used to but once you do controlling the little car around is pretty fun, and bumping off the walls doesn't feel punishing even though it slows you down. Nice job!

Faithless Land by Swynfel 2020-10-21T19:58:54Z

I really enjoyed that. I'm sure I played for over an hour but I didn't keep track of time. I managed to earn 1100 money units. If there was more content, I'm sure I would have kept playing. At first it took me a while to understand everything, but there was just enough information in the game that I MOSTLY got it after a while. I never did figure out how attacking metal "staggers" my opponent though. The music and graphics were both really good. This is a well-polished entry and a lot of fun. Great job!

A Shopkeepers Predicament by Kirthos 2020-10-08T17:38:50Z

Really good entry! I was amazed at how much content you were able to put into it. I especially like the artwork, music, and mood. I think I'll have more appreciation for the next NPC's I encounter, lol. Great job!

Gravitron - 2047 by RAC-Games 2020-10-25T21:08:43Z

Really liked the aesthetic and mood. The music was good too, but I wish the loop was longer. Sometimes the mechanic just didn't seem to work (or I didn't understand it) but the mechanic was really innovative and cool. It might have worked better if you made left-click set one endpoint and right-click set the other. I completed a few loops, I guess there's no end screen? I really appreciate that you erred on the side of making the game too easy instead of too hard (which is the mistake that so many other game jam entries make).

Obviously the graphics are great and I loved the neon. It's really satisfying sending the enemies flying into the environment! Great job!

La boucle du Dongeon by CryVeck 2020-10-27T03:37:48Z

Cool game! I didn't understand anything that was going on at first until I read the comments but once I figured it out, I really feel like this is an innovative and cool puzzle game. Good job!

Flip a Talk by gamescodedogs 2020-10-20T19:30:43Z

Really innovative idea. I like the idea of a talking-battle game. The card-game aspect was a nice touch, too. However, as others have mentioned, I don't think the way you've implemented this meets your intended goal of helping children to learn to communicate; the mechanics don't reinforce proper communication at all.

At first I didn't understand how to play my cards, only how to flip them. So this could benefit from an interactive tutorial (of course I won't hold that against you for a jam game, it's just feedback if you want to keep working on this).

Some music and sound would have helped this entry a lot but I understand you can only do so much in 72 hours. The graphics are perfect, and really impressive! It was pretty funny too. Overall, good job!

Endless Assault by Mau Zer 2020-10-27T04:51:40Z

Well-done! I did find a bug where if you speed up the game the turrets don't aim as well. Otherwise, it's a solid entry. I would have liked some sfx and I'm not sure the music really fit a war game. I wish I was as good at it as Snowdrama; I always ran out of money and died. I made it to 11 rounds and only barely. Overall, good job!

Dude Ranch by ColeSlaughter 2020-10-25T23:51:22Z

Such an awesome game! Really funny premise, great use of the theme, and very-well executed! My only tiny complaint is you didn't capture the mouse and I end up frantically clicking on my other window.

There are a lot of subtle game-design decisions that you did a really good job with. I like how the player has to decide if it's better to chase down the more-valuable dudes or go for the easy kills, and also if it's better to get closer to the dudes to catch more of them or rope them from a distance for more money per dude. I wasn't that great at it, I could only manage a highscore of $1792, but it was really fun! It's addictive and there's a lot of replay value in trying to beat your score.

I enjoy watching you guys on stream and I'm going to check-out your back-catalog of LD games after seeing this one. Keep it up!

Mind the Gap by coderTrevor 2020-10-07T00:48:01Z

Sorry about the audio issue! I hope I didn't blow out anyone's speakers / ears. At some point I lowered the volume of the Unity editor in my sound mixer, so I made the whole game with the lowered volume. I just changed the master volume in the game's settings and re-uploaded it. It's just a tweaked setting and it might save some ears, so I don't think this is cheating, but I thought it was only fair to mention the post-jam change.

I took a look at the Linux version in VirtualBox and can confirm it's broken, but I really have no idea what the issue is. I messed with it a little but didn't get anywhere. Hopefully I can figure it out soon!

Mind the Gap by coderTrevor 2020-10-09T04:14:38Z

@johnsensei thanks for the feedback and thanks for letting me know it works on a Mac!

The Turning Point by zaibakk 2020-10-17T19:19:26Z

Cool little game. This feels very artsy. The juxtaposition of the mellow music and constant clock ticking made an interesting statement. Sadly, I think it was bugged for me (on the web) - the first time I played the cat-finding minigame it worked, but after I lost and retried, the cat never showed up again. I tried like six or seven more times. I might try the Windows build later and see if it's better.

I think the idea of having a few simple minigames works very well for a jam game and it was fun. I really liked the music and mood of this, too. Good job!

Escape From London by Daniel Alhadeff 2020-10-26T17:00:15Z

Cool idea but it was very difficult to control and braking was just not happening. At night all I could see in my mirrors was bloom on top of bloom. The graphics are decent (visibility issues aside) and I like that there was even rain some time. Don't be afraid to sacrifice realism in favor of playability - the mirrors could have been more effective if they were cartoonishly large and if the brightness and size of the headlights died down quickly. Overall, it feels like a complete entry but it could have been better if you prioritized responsive controls instead of details like rain and driving at night.

I hope my feedback doesn't discourage you, hardly any jam game is perfect (God knows mine never are). This was an excellent use of the theme and I liked the music which seems to fit the mood of the game well. Congrats on finishing!

The Facility by Invixel 2020-10-21T01:05:34Z

I can certainly relate to not being able to include everything you wanted. This was a cool experience. Sure it's short, but that's fine for a jam game! The mood was spot-on, and the graphics and sound were good too. Overall, good job!

Ticket to Loop by Rost 2020-10-07T03:02:11Z

I just wish there was a score so I could know how many skeletons I killed. I also got so many skeletons chasing me and bullets on the screen that the game started to lag and the sound started glitching out, but I won't hold that against you.

Easily the best game with round house kicking skeletons I've ever played! Fun and addictive. I liked the risk/reward management involved in picking up passengers versus getting near skeletons, and the fact that the passengers give you more guns and health really makes picking them up fun.

Good job!

Stuck in a Hoop by Tunahead 2020-10-20T20:50:56Z

Good game! My biggest complaint is that if you hold jump, the player will jump again as soon as she lands, but it's not a big deal. The level design was good (but hard!). I especially liked the cute graphics of when you catch a rabbit in your hoop. This gave me very old-skool (pre-Mario) platformer vibes. Good job!

Pip's Journey by JemSmith 2020-10-22T02:07:12Z

Very cool idea! It's somehow very satisfying to move the pieces without waiting for the enemy. I love the way the enemies and neutral pieces were talking to my pieces. I wish there was audio but I understand how it goes during the jam. The graphics are good but I'm especially impressed with the overall idea. Great job!

Ping in the Loop by alejandrodlsp 2020-10-20T18:56:05Z

Cool little game! As others have mentioned, it would really benefit from being able to see more of the screen and/or speeding up time. That would make it feel more like a puzzle game, but as it is it requires a lot of trial and error. I wasn't able to beat levels 2 or 4. Still, it seems like a very nice and complete jam game. I especially like the music and the graphics of the main character. The interface is nice and clean, too. Good job!

Caterpillar Cowboy by eldogg 2020-10-18T15:00:37Z

Not much feedback I can give; this was a perfect jam game! I especially loved the music which referenced what happens in the game in a funny way. Awesome job!!

Beyond Death by Trypants 2020-10-13T07:15:57Z

There was a lot to like and I liked it a lot! Great job!

In road way by Rs11s21n 2020-10-26T23:45:59Z

I have no idea what that old man was going on about. I tried every permutation of "First from left, second from right" I could think of and none of them worked. It's a shame because I would have liked to see the ending. However, the pixel art is good and the music and mood is nice and relaxing. Good job!

MonkeyVM by abvadabra 2020-10-13T06:22:14Z

Ha, you're really wearing the Zachtronics influence on you sleeves. As far as I'm concerned, this game doesn't lose any points from any of the categories you opted into. It's just freakin' awesome! You could definitely expand this and put it on Steam. I probably wouldn't be upset if I dropped a couple of bucks on it in its current state. I really hope you keep working on it so I can play more. Awesome job!!

Broodmother by SludgeKey 2020-10-17T17:24:46Z

Wow it's super addictive! It's very innovative, too. It's like a strategy game crossed with one of H.R. Geiger's nightmares. I sometimes feel it's too hard to find blood and especially DNA and I wish the eyeballs dropped DNA. But overall It's absolutely bizarre and I love it. My high score is 1158. The music, art, and gameplay all go together for a zany mood. Great job!

Kaiju Kountdown by Johnsensei 2020-10-09T17:46:45Z

I encountered three bugs: the level not resetting, sometimes my health didn't reset, and on my last playthrough on level 4, my health meter wasn't going down, although I was still taking damage. But don't let that discourage you, it wouldn't be a jam game without some bugs! :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a really fun game! I love being the monster destroying a city. You made some very good decisions, like letting the player destroy the squad cars by walking on them (that's so much fun!) and having them shoot at regular intervals so you can dodge the bullets. I would've liked to see a counter for which round I was on, but I see now after dying on my last playthrough that you do keep track of buildings and cars destroyed (I got 142 buildings and 92 cars).

Even with the bugs, this feels like a very complete jam game. It's fun, and it has good graphics and audio. I especially liked the day/night cycle. Great job!

Chipperton by PopDaddyGames 2020-10-21T13:50:38Z

Super impressive. I realize you didn't make the models but even still, I'm amazed at how much game two people were able to churn out in 72 hours. It even has little details like the fireflies flying around which helps the mood. I was already blown away when I experienced the "base" game but then when you start finding some of the hidden interactions and such, it's really a mindblow! I really appreciate the bighead mode, too. Fantastic job!!

The Forest Maze by Dongle 2020-10-17T14:55:52Z

The artwork and animation was really good. The story was a little bit anticlimactic but that's often how it goes in a game jam. I just wish it had sound, and a fullscreen mode. Overall, good job!

Fault Outcome by VPhyre 2020-10-13T06:52:28Z

Short but cool! Would've like to see more but I know how it goes with only having 72 hours. Great job on your first jam game. Keep it up!

Light footsteps after the rain by Chocolat-Endive 2020-10-11T17:36:26Z

This game is artsy af. It was a breath of fresh air to see something so different. It was cool how you hinted at the backstory but left the player to guess what was going on. There's not much "gameplay" but the mood is terrific. Having the player type something at the very end was thought-provoking. Good job!

Rock 'N Load by KeyurRana 2020-10-16T03:25:12Z

This was a nice entry overall. It felt very complete. However, I feel like either I'm missing something about the rhythm mechanic, or the rhythm mechanic itself is missing something. It felt a little bit superficial, like paying attention to the beat didn't really help me to beat the game (no pun intended). It was innovative though, and I did really like how all the guns came together to make a little song, that was cool.

I only played it twice and the water was always in the first place I looked. Is that on purpose or just a coincidence? If it was on purpose, that was a good design decision. I also liked how instead of showing a dot for the player on the map, you made an ACTUAL map, with landmarks that matched the landmarks in the level. That was really cool (though I can imagine it might frustrate some players).

Overall, I liked it. Good job!

Rabirinsu magical Rätsel by Rhiannon 2020-10-18T18:00:23Z

I got a dragon and not a pig so, I guess that's good? I liked the voxel art style. Congrats on finishing!

Tales of Frustration by Versith 2020-10-27T02:26:29Z

I made it through all obstacles twice and I found a really big typo. At the end of a cycle it starts you back at the beginning and says something about it all being in vain. I'm pretty sure you meant to say "Wow, you made it through despite impossible odds, you're AWESOME! Congratulations!"

The slightly melancholy music was really good and seemed to fit well with the all-grey world. Overall, good job!

Before It Loops by SeezoGames 2020-10-16T02:41:46Z

Short and sweet. I liked this one. The only bad thing is the controls seemed a little bit weird somehow, like they didn't respond right away when I respawned. The mood is really good; I liked the music and minimal art style. The color changing on the trails was cool too. Good job!

Choo Choo Loop by thunderkerrigan 2020-10-08T04:08:15Z

I wanted so, so badly to make a loop! I don't think it's possible outside of the bugfixed version that spawns trains from both boxes. After spilling some blood, sweat, and tears on the bugfixed version... I made a motherf\*ck\*ng loop! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: MadeALoop.jpg It was kind of a hollow victory however, as nothing happened and I died about 5 seconds later, lol.

This game has some serious potential. The music is good, the graphics are cute, and the gameplay is novel. I think it's only downfall was the same fate met by many jam games: the creators underestimated the difficulty for people who haven't been playing it for three days straight! But I see what you were going for, and I like it.

Goop Loop by jitspoe 2020-10-21T01:59:06Z

The level design was a bit sadistic (way too easy to go backwards) but overall it's a fun game. It's a novel idea and good use of the theme. Well done!

WhileLoops by Ausstein 2020-10-06T03:38:14Z

Very cool! I like how you started throwing extra things to manage into the mix later on like more variables and managing brightness. It's one of those games that's annoying, but in a good way. This idea lends itself very well to forcing the player to make snap-decisions; "Do I get extra score at the cost of fan speed?" In practice, for me at least, the popups happen too fast to do this kind of management, and I just closed anything that seemed remotely bad. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not; the game seems well-balanced so maybe you already realized it's more fun to have everything happen faster.

The audio fit really well and the humor was super-relatable to anyone that's ever participated in a game jam! Good job!

RENT by Jam373 2020-10-21T18:40:03Z

Awesome job! I feel like I gotta rate you 1-stars just to be fair to people who finished on time, so don't be discouraged by your ratings. No hard feelings, I hope. Everyone has their own opinion on whether or not to submit if you don't finish by the deadline but I personally feel that you made the game for the jam, so you might as well submit it to the jam (of course with the caveat that you make it clear you didn't finish, which is what you've done).

I loved the art style and the mood. The music was good too. The quirky gameplay and dream-sequence minigames really lent themselves well to the overall surreal nature of the game.

You remind me a lot of myself as I also struggle to finish on time and have done exactly the same thing in the past: finished my game late and just have a disclaimer saying I want feedback and I'm not worried about ratings. I'm not sure if I should give you advice or not, since finishing by the deadline is not something I'm good at, but I will tell you what worked for me this time around and you can take it or leave it.

This LD was the first time I felt like I really "Finished" by the deadline. By finished, I mean I submitted a "complete" game, with artwork, player interaction, and audio. There were only two ways I was able to do this: working on code, graphics, sound, and gameplay in a round-robin style. I'd spend two or three hours on each of those categories then force myself to move on to the next. That guaranteed that I had some of each element done by the deadline. Also, I had to be brutal when it came to narrowing my scope and cutting content. The scope kept getting smaller and smaller, which is sad in a way but it really felt good to "finish" something by the deadline.

Like I said, I'm not sure if I'm the best one to take advice from because my game still wasn't "finished" by the standards of what I wanted to get done, but using that process I was able to submit in time for the jam deadline. Maybe this will help you.

Overall, you did finish your game and share it with the community and I appreciate that. It was a very quirky and cool experience to play your game. I hope to see more games like this in the future. Good job!

Re-Race by Stefan0198 2020-10-06T03:23:39Z

Gorgeous! The music and graphics come together for a really nice 80's aesthetic and mood, which is ironic because the nicest supercomputer from the eighties couldn't render this in a hundred years. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Oops Loops by michaelaranda 2020-10-10T19:36:15Z

Wow! So much fun and super innovative! It's very hard and punishing, but fair. I kept thinking I was going to ragequit but it kept me going. I finally beat it! The audio was perfect and I really like the polish - moving around feels great. It's hilarious and oddly satisfying when your dude's head flies off. It's really cool how the cards add variance to each run and give the player something to manage, and you can make shortcuts for yourself if you plan ahead. Great job! Jeepers.png

Under Your Spell by limbo 2020-10-26T04:09:11Z

Funny game; I've certainly made worse jam games. I think you were a little too hard on yourself. Good job!

Hamsters in a Mech by Jake Crabtree 2020-10-27T16:33:52Z

OMG this is so innovative! But hard! I really enjoyed this. My only complaint is the score goes away as soon as I die so I don't know how well I did. Overall, great job!

Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-25T22:32:59Z

Oh that narrator is so mean! I think this could have been improved by letting the player respawn closer to the death point. It was usually easy to figure out what I was supposed to do, but took a long time to execute it. I managed to get through it after dying 88 times. It would have been great if the mean narrator would get their comeuppance after all that abuse and tricking me into pressing escape.

I liked the gameplay and the minimal graphics. The audio and mood are good too. Overall it's a very complete game. Good job!

Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-25T23:54:25Z

@outfrost Hmmm I don't know exactly. Like on the last level there could be a guy holding a microphone and the player could push him onto spikes. I really don't know exactly but I just wish there was some way beating the game would result in him being unhappy since he was so mean to me.

And yes, you got me, lol.

SpaceC by ZevsEHG 2020-10-27T19:42:00Z

I liked it! My main feedback is you should have focused on the in-game graphics (which are pretty bland right now) before you made that awesome ship which I only get to see for a couple of seconds. Overall though it's a good game!

Lucky Lefty Loves Loops by TheBookSnail 2020-10-18T19:11:59Z

I was feeling pretty great about my 30.56 but I see now it was beaten many times over. Great game! The ending is brilliant!

Line of Attack by dans17 2020-10-20T20:25:03Z

By the third level, I was more interested in completing the game than getting a high score, and I found myself trying to sneak past all the enemies instead of taking the time to kill them. It's nice that you can sneak past them but I felt a little bit guilty for ignoring the core mechanic. If you keep working on this, maybe you can find some way to add some kind of variety or introduce a new twist to the mechanics. As it is though, it's really good for a jam game and feels very complete.

You were clearly inspired by the theme and took it in a totally innovative direction which is nice! I like the way you gave the player an incentive to bust through doors and kill enemies in the same loop; that feels really satisfying when you can pull it off. I like the motion of the doors and the blocky textures make the pixelated characters feel right at home in their 3D world. I like the smoke graphics on the loading screen, too. The audio and mood are quite good also. Great job!

The Nightmare by SaltFactory Studio 2020-10-08T15:11:51Z

I would've liked to see more feedback on what (if anything) the clues actually do. Like when I see one it could say "clue 1/4" or, if you don't want to break immersion, my character could say "You ..." then "You have...." or something like that. It wasn't clear to me if I needed to get them all in the same run, if they activated any in-game sequence, or just giving me, the player, information.

A problem with this theme (and this isn't your fault at all) is I never know if there's an end condition or if I'm just supposed to get some kind of meta-message that I'm stuck in a loop and quit. I think some feedback on the clues would have clarified this for me. So, if there was an end-condition, I'm sorry but I missed it.

Man oh man did you nail the scary theme! I literally jumped a few times, even after I had seen the monster before and knew full-well what that music meant. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The music played perfectly into the mood, as did the foggy atmosphere. Great job!

Undead Carnival Carnage by dummydojo 2020-10-18T18:51:42Z

Wow this is so good! Your team clearly knows how to work well together. I think I'm going to check out the development log on Twitch and see if there's any part of your process I can steal, because you guys know what you're doing (do you have days 1 and 2 up? I only see day 3). Awesome job, keep it up!

Life Of Crime by HKSpadez 2020-10-08T18:11:04Z

You sonuvabitch, I'm in! Impressive game. There was a lot of content. It was a lot of fun and totally hilarious. I really appreciate the little details like the picture of a cop thinking about a doughnut, lol. Good job!

The Loop by TheVideoGamester 2020-10-06T17:57:43Z

You said you can finish the game in only 1 loop? Well I just beat your score! :stuck_out_tongue: LD47_Low_Score.png

Really cool game! I liked the music. I like that you actually added some puzzles and they even have different mechanics. There's a good use of humor (Killer is his mouse's name, lol).

There were some things that weren't clear to me, like why the key-code would change between loops, and at first I didn't understand the purpose of the green paper. If you end up expanding it post-jam, try to make it so the player doesn't have to repeat puzzles with each loop, and having a key code carry into the next loop would be one example of that. But that feedback is only if you want to expand it post-jam; it's a totally-complete game made in 48 hours, so I'm not knocking it!

This really felt like I was playing an old-school point-and-click adventure, minus the "try-everything-until-something-works" aspect. Great job!!

Tip of My Tongue by KeithSwanger 2020-10-16T12:06:32Z

I love this game! There's like three riddles that I still can't solve despite many attempts. I'll look at the source if they don't come to me eventually. :stuck_out_tongue: However, after like 7 playthroughs, with some luck, I was able to get a perfect score!

a_plus.png

It's a really innovative concept, well executed, and funny. This is a perfect jam-game; you can see the idea and almost all of the content in a few minutes but it's also fun to replay and try to get a perfect score. I really like the ending text. I was impressed that even on my seventh playthrough I was still encountering new riddles. I loved the music. Awesome job!

TIME TO DANCE! by Savvy Community 2020-10-21T21:09:16Z

I loved this! It's simple but super innovative. The graphics, music, and mood are all perfect. It's one of those "I wish I thought of that" games. Awesome job!

Dreamer by mlkvr 2020-10-22T01:49:49Z

The camera controls need a total overhaul, it's very unintuitive the way it's always following the mouse. I like the way you incorporated the theme - when you fail, it turns out you were dreaming. The post-jam version is much-improved over the jam version, so I'm curious to see how much more you can improve it in the future. The graphics are good and this definitely has potential, keep working on it!

A tale of Loopism by Pomo 2020-10-16T08:24:13Z

OMG it's sooo difficult! The controls are hard to get used to and the gravity just seems off. My first impression is to give it one \* for fun because it's too damn hard and very frustrating. Buuut... After you play it for a few hours it kind of grows on you... a lot. Then when you finally beat it, you think you're done but you want to see how well you can speed run it so it sucks you back in. And there is an impressive amount of variety in the gameplay, so... OK I guess it's more like 5 \*'s for fun. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I've sunk about five hours into it. I'm posting a screenshot from my first completion and my most recent one, I don't think I'll be beating that time.

coderTrevor-MLG.jpg

Overall it's a really nice game. Very complete with good graphics, audio, humor, and mood. Awesome job!

A tale of Loopism by Pomo 2020-10-17T15:28:50Z

@arthurds Thanks for adding me to the list! For some reason I felt the call of your game yet again and did in fact manage to beat my previous time. My new speedrun record is 166.44, and I REALLY don't think I can beat that one, lol (I've tried).

I made a [video of this speedrun you can see here](https://myldgames.s3.amazonaws.com/ld47/Loopism_Speedrun.mp4).

I do have one more piece of feedback. I have the most difficulty with the controls on the legless level, and I think I figured out why. I'm guessing you're using the default input settings with Unity? It feels like I'm adding acceleration to a rigidbody based on my input, but Unity's default settings also apply an "acceleration" curve to the horizontal and vertical axies, and I end up feeling like I'm fighting the input and it's not intuitive, because there's two separate acceleration curves happening on top of each other. So if I'm right, and you happen to want the player to have more control, you would give "gravity" and "sensitivity" very high values in the input settings. I think you could change this by script just for that level.

Well, that's my feedback for why I THINK it's difficult to control that level, and what you might try if you WANTED the player to have an easier time. If I'm wrong or if it was your intention to make the controls hard then never mind.

I know I've already given you feedback but this is my favorite game of the jam so far. Hope you win.

Life is Loop by frances 2020-10-08T06:00:48Z

"I got so good at it, I died almost immediately." Seriously, a very fun entry. I had to rip myself away after four loops. I thought the abstract background was a nice touch. Good job!

(Nu) Da Drum by Trexxak 2020-10-25T21:29:52Z

I had to watch the playthrough to really grasp the gameplay, but even when doing that it seemed like the game had trouble transitioning to the next screen when it should have (My resolution is 1920 * 1080 so I'm not sure what the problem would be). I wasn't crazy about the controls, and it really seemed like the bar was going down slower on your video when it would just drop instantly on my computer (but maybe that's just my perception).

This definitely feels like an "art game." I appreciated the mood and aesthetic, even though I'm pretty sure I didn't understand everything that was going on. It was really innovative the way I could see into a little window in the game world, which moved around my screen. Overall, it was nice to see a game that was totally different from anything else I've played. Good job!

Super Lucrative Opportunity Of Pouring Coffee by Pepperpwni 2020-10-08T04:49:36Z

This is a cool game. I felt like the mechanic of collecting the right amount of power-ups and avoiding the rest was really innovative. I wanted a way to throw out the coffee I screwed up but I accepted that not having that just meant I had more incentive to not screw up. I also liked the music and graphics. Honestly, I felt like it was over too soon; you could have spread out that speed increase that was between the two levels over a few more levels and I would have had fun playing them. Good job!

Loopsky by Matootsy 2020-10-17T16:17:39Z

Very cool game! Super innovative; at least if there's another game like this I'm not aware of it. I was also confused like JoeShanahan on how to play the second level, and I really didn't understand what "break the loop" was supposed to mean. Eventually (after checking these comments) I realized you can use a loop to move stars closer to the final loop you will draw.

This is a really well-polished, and very cool game. I know you didn't make the sfx and music for this game, but they seemed to fit the mood perfectly. Good job!

Pasco Sur by Gabriel Corbani 2020-10-18T14:09:23Z

I hope to play the post-jam version; this definitely has potential. I know how frustrating it is when you can't finish everything you want to by the deadline. You mentioned running out of time so I wasn't sure if there were parts of the game that were missing or if it was just me that was missing something. I managed to find two notes and read them, and I jumped onto the tracks and found a different room but couldn't figure out any way to climb back up. For your post-jam version, make sure to capture the mouse cursor, I kept clicking on windows on my other screen.

Great job on the graphics and mood! I really want to play an updated version because what's here so far is intriguing.

Hyper Hamster by Nazorus 2020-10-21T00:55:19Z

I loved it. At one point I was like, "How does this relate to the theme? Ohhhhhh." I was able to launch my hamster into space after about two minutes. An endless runner in a hamster wheel was a clever take on the theme. I really enjoyed the graphics (especially the speed lines) and audio too. Great job!

We need to talk by bereg 2020-10-08T15:25:07Z

Woah that was surprisingly intense and scary, lol. I liked your use of multiple camera angles. I think I'll steal that for my next game. :stuck_out_tongue: Good job!

Mobodo by Revetoon 2020-10-26T05:15:00Z

That was really cool! The only thing I took issue with is I didn't realize I had to drag down on the emergency stop; everything else I interacted with via clicking (I figured it out after watching @666savior's vod, which is were I first saw this game). It was pretty cool playing as a poltergeist with limited ability to influence the world. I don't think I've seen that before.

Fantastic little experience and a perfect game-jam game. Great job!

Sisyphus Beetle Takes His Daughter to Work by pee-thief 2020-10-21T00:41:57Z

Short but sweet; perfect for Ludum Dare! The graphics and audio were perfect and the mood was really good. Great job!

Groovy Loops by Simpathey 2020-10-26T23:15:45Z

I liked it! Simple concept but well-done. I just wish I could have known how many squares I had available since you can run out. I figured out you can remove them with a right-click but it seemed like it took a lot of clicks. The music was chill and suited the mood well. The difficulty progression seemed really good. Great job!

Clockwork by Zackary Bazzle 2020-10-17T18:21:14Z

I also found the game really difficult to control. I liked the low poly models and animations but I felt like the post-processing was overdone to the point where everything looked blurry. I liked picking up the gears. The mood is established well and is the best aspect of this game. It's good for your first game jam entry, keep it up! Oh I almost forgot to mention but whatever that swirl-effect was on the level transitions looked amazing!

Magic Rush by Verga 2020-10-21T22:28:07Z

Cute little platformer. I like the music and the gameplay is good too. The controls feel surprisingly solid. This is the first game I've seen where the spikes are animated; it gives the game some nice character. Good job!

I converted your game to a Windows exe using pyInstaller (apparently py2exe is deprecated). This worked without issue on my desktop. I tried it on my laptop which is running Windows 10 and Windows is SUPER suspicious of the exe that was generated because I guess it's never seen anything like what pyInstaller generates, but of course it should be safe to run if you allow it. Once I did tell Windows to run it it loaded very slowly, but seemed to work fine once it was running. Maybe this will allow more people to play and rate your game. [Here's the Windows version pyInstaller generated](https://myldgames.s3.amazonaws.com/ld47/Magic_Rush.zip).

A100P by ItsIsaac 2020-10-27T05:20:40Z

Phenomenal mood and graphics! My cat agrees with me, he got up on my desk and watched the stars swirling for about five minutes. Stanley is super cute and I wish I could give him what he wants and break him out of his loop, but unfortunately it seems in the end I only made things worse for him. He wound up stuck in a room trying to tell me something but I was too dumb to figure out what that was. I can tell this is a super innovative game I just wish I understood a little bit better what I'm supposed to be doing. I know I can move things around and can tell I'm changing Stanley's behavior but I have no clue to what end. Overall though, I can tell it's a good game even though it goes over my head. Good job!

Blazzy's Big Breakout by Dreamarch 2020-10-16T03:39:03Z

I really liked the respawn visuals, although the sound was a little grating. It took me a little while to understand what was going on, I didn't know the buttons on the floor were buttons until I read the other comments. It would be better if the game gave the player more feedback, like if the buttons lit up when pressed. The difficulty and length of the game is (IMHO) perfect for a game jam. This is good for a first entry; keep it up!

Third Time's the Charm by Jag 2020-10-08T15:49:56Z

Too punishing and way too difficult! One time would have been plenty! :stuck_out_tongue: It's a little bit hard to evaluate your game without knowing where your work ends and premade assets begin. But overall it came together for a very nice game. The first time I fell out of the level I laughed at loud when my character said "goodbye." If the bats moved and you didn't make the player survive three consecutive runs it would have been perfect. Good job!

Miner Malfunctions by xacer 2020-10-21T20:19:40Z

Gameplay-wise it isn't anything special, but I'm super impressed at how you managed to incorporate a ray-marched mandelbox into your game! My ship even collides with it in the way I'd expect. Impressive!

Welcome to Station Alpha by Theo Ratkin 2020-10-13T02:49:42Z

Short and sweet, good for a jam-game! I know how it goes to not be able to put in all the content you wanted, but you did a good job delivering something playable. I liked the graphics and the audio. The mood was spot-on for a subway station. Good job!

Loop Legacy by LuksusDyr 2020-10-27T04:15:38Z

Cool idea, it really forces you to strategize how and where you will kill the enemies in order to not trap yourself in the future. Like others have said, I encountered a bug on my first playthrough where I killed all the enemies I saw but the door never opened. In my final run what did me in was a skeleton spawning surrounded by corpses and I couldn't kill him. All this game is really lacking is some kind of score that makes the player want to keep challenging themselves with additional runs. Overall though, it's a good game!

LoopRunner by Zarki 2020-10-22T01:19:34Z

Not a bad little old-skool platformer. I think it's too hard for a jam-game but that's true of a lot of entries. I managed to grab the key and make it to the door but nothing happens. The first time I got there I fell through to the other side.

The graphics are simple but nice, and the music is good. Nice job overall.

Anything For You by Emily Pitcher 2020-10-21T14:26:18Z

Wow, what an emotional experience. I actually got chills when I saw the ending. I wasn't expecting a game with so much emotion when I opened it. I liked the art, audio, and narrative. This wouldn't normally be my cup of tea for a game I'd seek out on my own but it was nice to experience something different for a Ludum Dare game. Great job!

Let's Circle Back by Alex the Bear 2020-10-18T15:24:25Z

I like the way you had the player managing health vs. movement, but unfortunately, since it took so long to switch between the two modes there was really no choice for the player to make; you have to be healing all the time and shoot in place or you'll lose. I liked that there were multiple enemy types to give the player something to manage. I liked the intro music but thought it was weird there was no in-game music.

I appreciated the humor of the corporate-speak, and I thought having a broken tank tread that makes you literally only able to travel in a loop was a really clever take on the theme. Good job!

Stuck In A Loop - A visual novel that totally mentions the theme at least once. by Fiquem 2020-10-26T23:59:07Z

Funny game! I saw the misunderstood friendship ending, appease ending, and death ending. Not sure how I'd go about getting the other ones. I normally don't like visual novels but that was fun. Good job!

Bjorn to Dance by Tomh 2020-10-07T20:10:38Z

Really, really good game! I like how you took Simon and added some more mechanics to it that make it less punishing and more fun. The high score list is what really sells it. Art and audio are both great, as are humor and mood. Good job!

CONTRAST by Benedek Labancz 2020-10-17T18:38:27Z

Fun little game. I really liked the music, although as others have said the boss music was bugged. I think some sfx would have helped this a lot since there's a lot of action on the screen. I thought the puzzles were a nice touch. Overall, good job!

No Grave Too Shallow by Skiffage 2020-10-24T23:15:47Z

Funny game! I wish I could get to more of the punny villains, but I only encountered two of them, and Bindiana Bones was dead, lol. My high score is 452. I like the music and player sprite with his money bag, but my favorite part is when the coins come flying out. Good job!

Escape from the Ferris Wheel by Adam Jewell 2020-10-08T17:21:26Z

Haha, a minimal point and click adventure game; nice! I liked how you can travel between the seats of the ferris wheel. It's always hard to learn tools as you go during the jam, so congrats on finishing something!

Commuter by Aran Ink 2020-10-06T04:40:25Z

Really fun game! I played all the levels and got gold on most of them. It feels very polished overall, even though there were a few forgivable bugs (one I remember is a yellow car fell off the track but didn't die). The graphics are great and the mood is good. I just wish there was some element that added a little bit more challenge, or maybe a sense of level progression. The medals do provide some nice incentive but I wanted just a little bit more. This could be the start of a commercial game, I think.

The one feature I found myself really wanting over and over again was the ability to replay the level from the point after I placed the traps, because I usually didn't change their position if I was just fractions of a second from gold.

Great job!

Endless Night on Galaxy Railway by cuoshen 2020-10-07T00:02:53Z

I feel like the dice were either meant to serve a game-mechanics purpose that didn't make it into the game on time, or I just don't understand them. It seemed like they control how many spaces the train moves forward, but I was unclear as to why that mattered since the train seems to almost always stop at every station anyway. I feel like there's some innovation behind this design, even though I don't really understand it.

I wish it had some kind of audio.

It was a cool game, and the art and narrative set the mood for an experience that was very unique. I liked how at first it seemed like it was going to be a regular 2D visual novel but then turned into another kind of game altogether. If you expand this, it would be cool if it switched between the two styles, 3D for going to the stations and 2D for interacting with characters.

The theme connection is quite good, because you have a story connection (reincarnation) and a mechanic connection (looping game board). Good job!

BoreOut! by HOOLOP 2020-10-08T16:08:18Z

It was a little unclear to me how I interacted with the managers, and I would have liked to take them out when their backs when turned. I hate those guys the most! It seems like once they spot me the end of my day is inevitable. At first I didn't realize that I was playing out different days and not reloading the same level.

So much fun! Take THAT Robot Kyle, you crappy co-worker! Great humor and use of the theme; calling work being "stuck in a loop" seems cynical but apt. I don't even work in an office yet I found this game to be extremely cathartic. The audio fits the mood perfectly, and I loved that sound (trumpet?) when you hit a co-worker! Great job!

Oroboro by ugly_robot 2020-10-08T17:52:57Z

Fun game with excellent mood! Innovative idea and an excellent use of the theme. It was really hard so I wasn't able to beat it yet, but I think I'm going to come back to it later and give it another go. Good job!

Power Flow Loop by shipster 2020-10-13T02:39:48Z

It's a pretty confusing game. I don't really understand (both from a story and gameplay perspective) why the laser resets everytime I touched the path. I thought I'm supposed to make a path for the ball, so shouldn't I be touching the path? But having the laser resets seems like touching the path is a bad thing. I sort of understand mechanically and story-wise why the ball changes size, but I didn't really like that aspect either. It seems like you're giving the player a way to manage their jumping ability and time remaining (which is definitely good game design) but I just didn't understand it. Really I just don't quite get the relationship between the laser and the ball.

I made it to level 3 though. Even though the mechanics didn't work perfectly for me, you took a risk with them, and I respect that. You should score high on innovation. Graphically, it's gorgeous. Good job!

Project R.O.O.M by Arad HamidSamiee 2020-10-06T17:00:51Z

I played it for over half an hour and kept thinking I was missing something because I couldn't find any end condition. Then I remembered the theme, and now I feel dumb. I wonder if that will be happening to me a lot with this jam.

I was picking up a kind of SCP-meets-Portal vibe from this; you nailed the creepy mood! Good job!

Creepy af! I think that music broke me. Good job!

Too Many Phases by ItsAina 2020-10-27T16:02:47Z

iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-06T17:10:18Z

This game is simple but fun, which is perfect for a game-jam. I got 81 points. I really liked the animation on the little robot. Congrats on your first jam game!

Lorem ipsum... oops sorry muscle memory. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Cool little game, I'm guessing there's no end condition? Sorry but I didn't want to type that much to find out, lol.

Please Just Leave by Noam Blei 2020-10-08T04:37:30Z

I've been Rickrolled!! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I liked it! In my humble opinion, it's very important in game jams to throw out the ideas you can't implement on time and cobble together a complete experience out of what's left by the deadline. You did that perfectly, especially for your first jam. Good job!
