It is a very fun, I am impressed you were able to make it in 2 days.

2017-04-24 03:41

fun game, seemed like the spanish spawn point was messed up, they kept dropping their ships on top of an island. if the map was randomly generated that would explain it. I only played once so i didn't see if it occurred on each playthrough.

adamalexander 2017-04-24 22:00

Thanks for your feedback, I just submitted a version that fixes the spawn points.

2017-04-25 13:33

great fun :)with high waves it's a bit crasy but that craysnes is even more fun. I like that you made aming a bit difficult so not every shoot hits.

burgee 2017-05-01 12:08

I had a lot of fun playing this - it's so satisfying to sink the other ships. The shots have a real feeling of power behind them and seeing them skip off of the water or ricochet off of the island is awesome!

I had a funny bug where the spanish ships were flying for a bit, which was cool, I shot at them anyhow =)

If this was made into a 2 player game - split screen or online - it would be really fun!

adamalexander 2017-05-02 02:48

@Burgee thanks for your feedback, and the flying ships is by design, increase the wave strength to fly even more 😉

gao-ming 2017-05-02 03:37

Interesting idea!

ladybenko 2017-05-02 09:52

The waves are fun to ride and shoot while you are in air. It's fun although I believe a bit of background music would have been great. I always admire those who can pull out a 3D game for the compo, congrats!

flukeshot 2017-05-02 10:12

I found this really engaging. Nice job on the game-play.

gurkenlabs 2017-05-02 10:27

This game concept is a neat idea and I'd love to see it expanded in the future. What I didn't enjoy that much was the bouncyness of the ships, I was flying through mid-air the whole time which is not exactly a thing I'd expect from a ship ;) Congratulations on this fun little arena game!

japes 2017-05-02 13:31

This is great! You should develop this further, with online multiplayer you'll have a proper game on your hands. I for one would pay to play it.

Would love to know how you did the waves, the wave mechanic made things way more interesting for me. Also the feeling of hitting an enemy ship with a well placed shot is very satisfying.

Could see pro players making use of the ricochet mechanic off cliffs to hit enemies :)

Well done!

spaceman 2017-05-02 17:31

This was really cool! I think it's great how well the game and the title mesh, considering the random title generation.I enjoyed the game but found aiming to be a bit difficult (I never really felt like I knew where exactly my shot would land).

cdp-games 2017-05-02 18:29

A lot of fun! You could make the time per round changeable, i felt like six minutes per match was a bit long

puttzy 2017-05-02 22:09

Gave it ago, I like it, however I did very low wave strength and it was like fighting in valleys and mountains, not sure what happened there. I did get stranded on land for awhile and the AI rounds seem to go through the water very accurately while mine drift off or despawn (some hit) unless it is water [impact + distance = fade] sort of situation.

novodantis 2017-05-03 13:22

A lot of fun! Definitely potential in this.

I thought they were human players at first (I took the other meaning of "play online"). But then I started doing well, so clearly they weren't =P

askania-m 2017-05-03 16:03

Such a nice game! I liked it and could play for hours. The concept is easy, but sensful, the graphics are perfect for so little time and the physics are crazy, so I liked them. Great job!

franklins-ghost 2017-05-04 11:24

Fun concept. Liked the ships and the gameplay of moving through the waves trying to shoot the other ships. Favourite thing for me was definitely the sky, really loved the painterly look and colours.

banana-man 2017-05-04 15:05

Cool little game! Reminds me of a few other sailing games. How were you able to make the waves? Asset store or something?

mordokay 2017-05-04 18:28

Loved the game and loved the controls. The jumps you make when you increase the waves are awesome and when you get killed by another ship you know you deserved it :P

One thing I particularly liked was when got stuck on top of an island and all I could do was wait for another wave to come by ... very realistic :P

Would love to know how you managed to make those waves though ... it looks super hard to implement.

The mod is great and the skybox goes very well with the ocean and the ships. Great Job!

rother-games 2017-05-04 18:57

I liked to destroy all the ships, but sometimes I had problem with the controls, because sometimes the mouse was more sensitive than other times. And all ship glitched up sometimes.

huminaboz 2017-05-04 21:03

Took me awhile to realize that I couldn't shoot from the front but I think you made it to where you start looking from the side to hint at that.

oxlander 2017-05-04 22:06

Nice game! It was fun and would likely work well with multiplayer. Even though it took a while to understand the game and realize exactly what was going on (like shooting from the front, and I also would try to attack my teammates because I thought it was free-for-all), it was really great to play. I lost after nearly winning the first round as the english vs the spanish.... But in my second try I switched teams and...still got (ship) wrecked (:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) even worse.

Also, you definitely weren't just joking about the crazy physics! Sometimes I'd get on this high wave (especially when I turned up waves on the second playthrough) and fly past 3-4 enemy ships in the hopes of hitting them from the air or behind....sadly I usually was unable to aim low enough while they would manage to shoot me in the air (damned AI) haha! I also found it pretty funny that almost everything was voxel-based or low-res while the water (and that sky) looked pretty realistic. Anyways, great job! :grinning:

adamalexander 2017-05-04 23:20

@banana-man @mordokay Thanks for your feedback. I'm using the Unity community Ocean which is an open source project hosted here: https://github.com/eliasts/Ocean_Community_Next_Gen. It does waves out of the box and lets you sample the water height at any point so its easy to add bouyancy. It's a pretty amazing project considering its free.

codertrevor 2017-05-06 03:28

This is the most fun game I've found of the jam so far! Very good audio and graphics. I like your decision to put one person in each boat, it fit the low-poly style well and gives the player's ship more personality.

I keep coming back to this. My girlfriend just said to me, "You're playing that game again? That's the only one you play!" Good job! :)

adamalexander 2017-05-06 11:57

@coderTrevor I'm glad you're enjoying it so much, thanks for your great feedback :)

aurel300 2017-05-08 23:13

It is a nice game at its core. I can't but wonder how much better it would be if it were multiplayer somehow :) Also lacks a lot of polish, like prettier menus, HP bars, visual cooldown, tutorial, music, etc etc.

But, once again, the gameplay is very fun. Well done!

ryte2byte 2017-05-10 18:39

Wow, really impressed you got that water system done, let alone a game on top of it! I love the design on the ships. Great job crossing kart racer aesthetics with wooden ships! I really would have loved a HP bar on the ships. Also, maybe the crosshair for the cannons should always be there and just change in color when an enemy is under it. Perhaps a little radial cooldown bar on the crosshair for cannon reloading as well. I guess while I'm suggesting stuff I should mention that kart racers traditionally have power-up

morbidcamel101 2017-05-12 03:07

Wow awesome game - good job with the procedural waves and effect composition. It's a great simulation of ocean conditions! A side effect of lowering the gravity is you occasionally see ships flying! Unintentional humor is always great!

cerno-b 2017-05-13 13:09

One of the few games that actually might work better without music because the ambient sounds worked so well. Graphics are outstanding, but since you opted out of that category I would assume that you used a fixed asset pack?

Generally there is a lot in this game: The graphics, wave physics, AI. It's quite impressive.

One minor issue would be that it took a little too long to get back into the action after dying which takes the wind out of the game's sails (hur hur) a bit. Another thing was that if felt the waves caught my shots too often, but maybe I just suck at this kind of game.

All in all a pretty impressive display of skill from a single person. Great job!

ping78 2017-05-14 19:32

Nice game. The gameplay is very fun. Good job with the buoyancy.
