LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Red Planet Reclaimers by Tudvari 2024-10-10T16:36:01Z

Good stuff! Very fun and satisfying to become overpowered as hell. It starts a bit slow, but once you get the yellow upgrades it immediatelly starts feeling a lot smoother.

A few points to look into: - I personally think the enemies are too hard to see. A lot of times I lose health and have no idea from where. - I actually played it twice because my first time was spent mostly trying to find out where the blue ores were. I was unfortunate enough to look everywhere but the one corner that has it. Second run was way smoother and a lot more fun once I knew where it was, but it felt like the first run is a dice roll based on the direction you decide to explore first. - Also, there's this bug with the camera it seems? Over time, the camera becomes offset and the player gets closer and closer to the corner of the screen.

David vs Goliath: What the government doesn't want you to know by CaptainDreamcast 2024-10-08T01:45:00Z

Played this and my girlfriend was watching, and we were losing our minds over the intro, ESPECIALLY at the "slingshot". Really incredible, we both loved it a lot! I love shmups overall, so the fight being "basic" didn't really bother me much and controlled fine. Loved the Goliath explosions lol

On a sidenote.. We both were surprised to see a *dreamcast* game of all things, so I ended up booting retroarch, downloading a dreamcast core, and playing it on that too. Kind blows my mind that apparently all of your games have a dreamcast build (i mean.. it's in your name i guess). The controls were a bit awkward on it, tho. I'm not sure if that's how it was mapped to the actual dreamcast controller, but the face buttons is actually what moves the character, and using my right hand to move a character just does not compute in my brain. I'd suggest experimenting with the opposite: the analog moving the character and the facebuttons adjusting the cursor. Or maybe do what some twinstick shooters (Xenocrisis comes to mind) do, where the face buttons controls the direction of the shooting instead of a cursor (Y would shoot up, B would shoot right, both would shot diagonally, and so on). Not sure how it would feel especifically on a dreamcast controller since i don't own one, but nonetheless, still super cool that there's even a build for that.

Great job!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-08T22:16:49Z

Extremely nice game! Very nice visuals, sound design, and gameplay overall. The jumping can feel a bit awkward to use (the whole holding and then jumping), especially to jump over platforms, but I got used to it somewhat quickly still. Had lots of fun.

W.A.S.P. - Warrior And Scout Protocol by Paroxysmal 2024-10-09T22:33:43Z

I like me some shmups, and I like me some vampire survivors. It starts somewhat slow, but it was pretty fun once i got some firerate. I also really liked most of the graphics.

A couple of points: - The sound gets overwhelming when there's a lot going on, especially when there are many explosions at the same time. One thing some shmups do to remedy this is to have limit of how many sounds can be played at a time of a specific type (for example, there can't be more than 1 or 2 explosion sounds at the same time). - The XP magnet upgrade feels like a trap. Most of the time, the xp you'll attract won't be enough for another level, so it feels like a wasted level upgrade (especially considering the difficulty seems to ramp up based on the level too).

But overall, good entry. Nice job!

Really nice game, very pretty and polished, and very fun. I actually lost track of time because i keep trying to beat level 8 all the time (idk if it's supposed to be easy or hard, but it was hard for me lol). Sounds (both SFX and music) were also very pleasing to listen to. Very strong and nice entry!

Critter Catchers by ItsAina 2024-10-10T12:40:10Z

@sdcorpse You can't, I'm sorry :c I actually had a whole weighted scoring system that would take the amount killed, caught, and escaped into consideration, but I ended more focused on trying to make the game "f'd up" and had no time at the end. In fact, the post-game stuff (the end dialogue and credits) were made in what... the last 15 minutes before submissions were over? lol

@frogman Thank you! I was actually going to make a different ending for the "pacifist" (where you wouldn't get in the company and other stuff), but I really underestimated how quickly I can get things done. Hopefully I'll eventually get to actually expanding this game into a slightly longer experience with more than this 3 minute gameplay and make all the endings I wanted.

@silkworm-sweatshop Thank you! Honestly, I didn't think people would find humor in the dialogue, that's why i opted out lol.

@deadroach Thank you! Was the crash on windows or linux? I wonder if it's the same issue @henk had.

Congratulations on your first LD game! It's a cute little game, I liked the idea of swimming inside a painting, it's pretty creative!

I think the only negative I have to say is that sometimes it feels like i'm getting hurt from nothing. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I keep losing health when nothing is even close to me (sometimes not even on screen).
