LD42 — Running out of space

Deadly Delivery by Rogue Studios 2018-08-16T03:50:07Z

First of all this is an amazing entry. One of the most addicting games I've played honestly.

I loveee the concept. The execution is also fantastic, the graphics are simple and fit the style, the sound effects match the graphics, and the unlockable things always gives me something to play for.

The only few minor gripes i have with the game is:

- The sprites of the immovable blocks can't look the exact same as the box you are trying to transport - There is no way to move when you have gotten far enough to where the boxes trap all of your movement paths. The game doesn't detect this either, so there you have to kill yourself when this happens. - There isn't any music

The biggest thing for me is this: - There isn't a bonus for moving fast. I found it great at the beginning to move slowly, but once i got the hang of it, moving fast was a bunch of fun. However, it seems imperative to me that moving faster should yield a reward of some sort, because you are thinking faster and acting faster when you theoretically have all the time in the world to make a move.

Overall this is hands down one of the best games I've played the whole compo! Great work.

Stack Overflow by Erasmus Crowley 2018-08-13T18:53:24Z

This is awesome! I love the overall theme and look. It almost looks Tron-esque with the neon grid!

Reply All by Dilem 2018-08-13T00:19:42Z

Nice! I like it, reminds me of Papers Please as other people are saying. Sound fx would have been nice but i know its hard to get everything in on time!

Escape 2600 by cenullum 2018-08-13T20:46:15Z

LOL I love this. The heart that went into this game is gleaming!

Health and Mana Warehouse - Among other things by superhiro20 2018-08-13T00:10:30Z

I really like the materials you got going on. Lots of reflectivity and cool lighting!

MASTER OF POWER (vs jealous villagers) by randdir 2018-08-14T01:02:13Z

Really cool concept! I think like others have said the difficulty curve needs to get straightened out, because it gets easier instead of harder. I like it though great job!

Running out of Squares by Maksim Chugunov 2018-08-16T04:06:57Z

Awesome concept, good execution! The 7x7 & up boards are a litttleee too tough to get exactly perfect, if there was a mechanic (such as tetris) that gave the user some kind of power like storing a piece for later use and can swap it out, that would make the gameplay a lot better (and its already good!)

Music and SFX is my only other gripe. Great job!

Dying Planet by JK studio 2018-08-13T20:55:49Z

The game looks beautiful, I love the art style!

The gameplay would be a little more fun if you tightened up the mechanic of gathering ore. Also, I believe the UI for how much of each material you have isnt working - that might just be me though!

Overall good job :)

Void Eater by Dongle 2018-08-14T06:54:16Z

The art is really really good. The game itself is also really good. The only thing that needs work really is the mechanics, and the difficulty ramp. The dash is too hard to control imo, and the boss needs some work / something leading up to it.

The theme wasn't super present, the void of course makes you run out of space but it seemed more like it was thrown in there just because, and that the game itself is more of just a challenging boss fight.

Good stuff though!

Mike's Movers by William Corrin 2018-08-13T01:09:16Z

Lol thanks a lot everyone! Ill probably post a video later about the whole process, I made sure to include some funny videos of me making noises into the microphone.

@squirmonkey yeah I know! I was debating on weather I wanted it to be a relatively relaxing game or a more rushed feeling. I went with the latter but I guess I made it too hard :( lol

Mike's Movers by William Corrin 2018-08-13T20:04:10Z

@chocolat-endive definitely! I agree, I really wanted to get more types of furniture in the game but unfortunately I ran out of time and didnt get to make as many different kinds as I had hoped :(

Mike's Movers by William Corrin 2018-08-13T23:29:23Z

@phillserrazina thank you! yeah, I wanted to make it a challenging experience and to have it feel rushed but in a good way. I didnt get enough time to playtest, I think it came out a little too hard! lol.

Mike's Movers by William Corrin 2018-08-13T23:41:00Z

@brunomik thanks so much dude!! I really appreciate it! The time actually does reset at every level, its just that i made each level's time way too low :/ if I ever come back to the game I will playtest more and make the time limits better!

Mike's Movers by William Corrin 2018-08-14T16:32:56Z

@moxinilian thanks for the feedback man! Yeah the laptop might not be a fun experience lol i was definitely making the game for use with a mouse.

The HTML5 doesn't render the left side of the screen unless its fullscreen mode, you are correct! Ill have to look into that after work. Thank you!

Edit: Even fullscreen mode is messed up. Ill make a new build when I get home from work.

Petra by cassowary 2018-08-13T01:34:01Z

My favorite game of the compo so far. So simple but so fun and addicting!

Secret Knight by shinysteel 2018-08-13T02:06:14Z

One of the best games I've played so far today!

Overpopulation by SimonAura 2018-08-13T00:46:43Z

This is quite awesome! I really like the whole theme and everything. I can't get the rocket to actually land anywhere but I'm trying! Overall this is awesome might be my favorite one so far :)

Rustronaut! by jojolepro 2018-08-14T06:45:00Z

I really liked the audio track. I wish there was more though! It seemed like all 3 levels are exactly the same. Some variation would be nice!

Personal Bubble by 4thwallstudios 2018-08-13T00:34:38Z

The idea is awesome, its like Agar.io but in 3D! It is very hard to tell if you are bigger than another bubble though, just because 3d perspective is so skewed. Maybe there could be some kind of indicator to let you know from farther away if you can absorb? Good work though!

Running Out Of Space by DivotionTheBest 2018-08-14T19:09:31Z

Simple, fun, aesthetic graphics that match the sound too. I really like it!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep Descent by Predominant 2021-04-26T05:20:26Z

I dig it! Its addicting. Could maybe use a background track or something for more ambience.

The Limbo Runner by jk5000 2021-04-26T08:53:35Z

Very goofy, very awesome idea. Well executed, one of my favorites for sure.

Deepz Explorez by khaotom 2021-04-26T03:43:45Z

Wow, as simple as the gameplay was, you built a very nice atmosphere...I love what you did with the audio!

Fish Slapping Simulator 2021 by chriiis88 2021-04-26T04:36:13Z

Very funny entry

Truck or Pupper by xlambein 2021-04-26T08:35:57Z

Hahahaha, I genuinely love this entry. Trucks and PUPPERS!! The concept of multitasking with the neural network and (basically Tetris/Captcha) is very funny. Well done

Through Dimensions by potatolain 2021-04-26T20:45:58Z

Very impressed by this, I can't believe you made an NES game in 48 hours...this is super cool! I think the music could use a little work. But thats just imo. Great game!

The Quantum Menace by freamdev 2021-04-26T08:05:26Z

I got 26! This was fun, although it wasn't suuuper clear what was going on / what you're supposed to do. Some more clarity to the player would be nice. I appreciated the 3 different guns, that was cool!

X Feet Under by morphine 2021-04-30T21:33:41Z

Gameplay: Very impressed with how much you have going here. Quite a lot of interesting stuff. Minecraft vibes, but also the Urn and shrines and stuff, rotating blocks, oxygen, and so forth. Impressive, however i think its tough to enjoy these mechanics right away because they are introduced at an alarmingly close rate to one another. More on this in UI section:

UI: To be honest, too much text. The font is tough to read, and the disclaimers/tutorials pop up too much. I know there is a lot of mechanics you have (which is very impressive, again), but it makes for a very reading-heavy tutorial which is not ever a thing I like having to do. Aesthetically, the font you have chosen matches the blockiness of the graphics, but I actually would have preferred a more pleasing font to the eye since you have so much text.

Audio: The song is actually really addicting. The sound effects are solid. Turning off the radio is such a small touch but I really like it lol.

Overall very impressive, i think most of the issues i have are because you didn't have enough time to create a proper tutorial or pace your mechanic introductions. This stuff can all be fixed easy post-jam. Great job, and sorry if i was too harsh!

Lowestop by Popolon 2021-04-26T08:14:51Z

The graphics are really cute! But to be honest, I have no idea how this is supposed to work. I didn't see any instructions, so im going to assume its just a feel-good game where you move the little guy around the cute environment.

Meltdown, Down, Down by Cruise Elroy 2021-04-27T00:22:28Z

I really like this! This a great entry. You should rate some more games so people will see this and play it more! It has a good chance to do really well if enough people play it :)

The Forgotten Halls by vfqd 2021-04-26T09:03:31Z

This is a fantastic game. I can't believe this was done in only 48 hours - you have great graphics, gameplay depth, lore...its awesome! Well done, well done!

Submergence by TomekS 2021-04-26T07:22:52Z

Atmosphere is fantastic. Graphics are very solid, especially given the time limit - the only thing this game needs is better steering / control, more obvious death boundaries, and a checkpoint system.

Bunny Bunny Dig Dig by ZakAmana 2021-04-28T00:15:11Z

Really fantastic work here. Such amazing, cute graphics made in such a short amount of time. And I really like how you combined the mining mechanic with a little RPG-esque fighting minigame as well. Definitely my favorite twist of the game :)

Super impressive.

Chimes by Pohko 2021-04-26T05:03:56Z

Wow. The graphics are absolutely phenomenal given the amount of time for this competition...I am thoroughly impressed.

The gameplay leaves something to be desired, however i understand thats not really what you were going for! Really beautiful game.

Minball by Pizzasgood 2021-04-26T05:14:25Z

Wait...this is actually genius. I love it. I did find a bug where i got my pinball stuck into an area that wasn't unlocked yet

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T03:26:30Z

@terrareef thank you! Yeah, there are definitely a few bugs in there. If i had more time i coulda squashed them all - thank you so much though!

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T03:46:03Z

@choppers yeah I noticed that bug from what TerraReef said - I would fix it, but I'm not allowed to since the compo is over :( Thanks for playing!!

(EDIT): Read the rules, bug fixes like this are allowed. I fixed it.

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T07:06:18Z

@lomna This should be fixed now with the bug fix patch from a few minutes ago. Thank you for the feedback! :)

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T07:25:37Z

@peace-of-cake-games thank you so much! Yeah, i really went hard this time around. Not a lot of sleep, but it paid off :D

Controller support was something i was looking into at the end, but sadly didnt have time...and yeah, shift is only for left-shift. I didn't think to add it to the right haha...whoops!

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T07:26:40Z

@valid thanks a bunch :D i tried to level out the sounds, but i don't doubt there is some inconsistencies lol

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T08:02:22Z

@ommadawn hehe, thank you! Much appreciated :)

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T08:04:04Z

@mausimus I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, lol, the "drift mode" lets you turn faster but it does also make you accelerate slower too haha...you do need it to have the game flow smoothly though, like you said.

I agree, there are actually a ton of quality of life improvements i want to give to this game ASAP. I just have to wait until judging is over to be fair :D

Much appreciate the feedback!!

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T08:26:27Z

@j0ye thank you! yeah, I'm mainly a programmer, so when i model and texture you will always get the DIY kind of feeling, lol!

Yeah, I wanted to do something about the controls a little bit, but i didn't have a ton of time and needed to finish some other stuff. I agree though.

Thank you for playing, and for the feedback! :)

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T19:53:43Z

@smeljey I am much better at music than SFX - I can't wait for the rating period to end so i can use some good ones! Lol - thanks for playing and for the feedback :)

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T19:54:39Z

@lakshyaisagod thank you! do you have a specific improvement? Im currently constructing a list of QOL tasks for post-rating period and would love anythinig specific! thanks for playing.

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T19:56:30Z

@lb01 that is fantastic advice about SFX. I agree too, I just didn't have enough time, i barely was able to submit this game as it is - its unfortunate that the engine sound is a little annoying, but i actually agree, its my least favorite noise lol.

You can hold left shift to drift though! Not sure if you already knew that or not.

Thanks for playing, and for giving good feedback!

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-26T19:58:09Z

@guimm12 @adamwatters @pseudohausen thank you to all 3 of you - the decelerating feedback has made it to the top of the list on QOL post-rating tasks :) much appreciate the plays and comments from all of you!

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2021-04-28T17:59:30Z

@lectvs thanks so much man! I had a lot of fun watching you play mine and other's games on your stream :D

The Deep Web by William Corrin 2023-08-10T15:53:46Z

Hey everyone! Thought I would update the thread from 3 years ago, in case anyone wants to check it out - this game jam has just released, as of today, as a full game on Steam!

It's called Synthwave Racers now. If you want to see how much its changed, check it out here! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1916710/Synthwave_Racers/

Soaring Under by jitspoe 2021-04-26T08:12:29Z

Its super pretty. I enjoy how taking flight kicks off a nice calming piano piece, and then dying makes dissonant notes appear...lol! I will say, pickups are basically impossible to get. I almost feel like a third person mode would be better, as i find myself colliding into things when i think im safe.

Overall a really good entry though!

Greedseeker by Esosek 2021-04-30T21:46:26Z

Very cute game. The concept is actually really clever, albeit simple. I think the execution needed a little work. The physics, mainly, seem to be wonky - there are times the rocks will fall on my character, but don't become kinematic, and I can jump into them from below and they move around and stuff. The character's walking animations sometimes are weird, and overall the game is a little buggy.

HOWEVER - despite the lack of polish in the mechanics department, the graphics are really cute, and I love thinking about how my guy is a little greedy miner who needs every last ounce of gold, lol! The levels are well designed too.

Its a solid entry. Needed probably a couple more hours of tuning gameplay and working out some physics issues.

Quick Scrap by Vimlark 2021-04-30T22:00:13Z

Very solid entry. It reminds me of something I would have played on AddictingGames back in the good ol' days!

I would say stunning the enemy doesn't really do much (unless the enemy shoots projectiles). I think it would be nice to have them spit out scraps, or do something other than just be stunned and get un-stunned.

I also think there could be one or two more gameplay elements - something off the top of my head would be a "no-death" run, because I currently think levels could use checkpoints (opening up a new button is perfect, and makes sense to have). That way you could maybe incorporate deaths as a gameplay stat.

Gameplay controls really nice. I actually don't have anything to say about this, its just done very well!

Music is solid, gets just a little repetitive after a while, but i suppose most songs do :)

Through The Crust by sweer 2021-04-26T03:55:27Z

Simple, yet addicting. Executed pretty well - nice :)

Fight Bytes by DrGrognak 2021-04-26T23:31:02Z

Awesome concept! Custom engine too. Very impressive.

The game was a little too easy, since the AI always comes after you, you just count out the steps they have and keep a distance.

Really cool idea!

DEEPER by eboatwright 2021-04-26T03:52:15Z

Very nice! Great overall entry. The only thing critical i would have to say is just that it seems copied from Downwell a little too much - but very well done nonetheless :)

Duskwood by Voidsay 2021-04-26T08:23:28Z

It was actually pretty scary at times. I think the amount of walking could be toned back, like a lot. But you got me a few times with a scare! Lol! Nice entry.

DeepTech Industries by Acdia 2021-04-26T07:52:18Z

Wow the wall destruction is VERY satisfying. I love it! There could be maybe more direction on what to look out for or something. The steering is a bit awkward, but it almost works well with the destruction mechanic...if you miss, you get to see stuff go flying :D Good job!

Lies & Descent by LazyAlarm 2021-04-26T05:17:04Z

Neat idea. I really like the little tune that plays while climbing!

Deep Purple by BridgeOnAStick 2021-04-30T21:39:50Z

This was very clever, fun, and pleasing to the ear/eye. I think transparency with the main mechanic is my biggest gripe though. Only being able to move one direction is slightly confusing for a while, and the fact you can change directions only after picking up an up arrow doesn't exactly make the most sense.

It works very well once you get used to it, but I do think the mechanic could have been introduced much better.

Great entry overall!

Ziggurat by nethead 2021-04-26T09:22:23Z

Holy cow...this game is so impressive. You might have just taken the cake...congratulations on an awesome project.

Falling Through Love by CinderBlock 2021-04-26T03:59:03Z

I love the concept! The art is just wonderful too. The gameplay could have used a little something extra though.

lumpy jumps by FahimDelta 2021-04-26T23:41:54Z

A Deep Stare by Rushhourz 2021-04-26T02:25:35Z

Very unique concept. :)

Solar Winds by bkelly 2021-04-26T03:48:31Z

Very unique concept.

DeepTris by hilkojj 2021-04-27T00:36:28Z

This is an awesome twist on Tetris! And i got to say, the graphics are very pleasant. I think the music could use a little more upbeat tempo, and some more variety. Nice entry!

Depth of Memory by feralpoodles 2021-04-26T04:14:24Z

Very amazing what you were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time - i really like the aesthetic style. Its a little tough to know what to do, i got some stuff done (like reading the laptop) but it was tricky to know what to do.

To The Core by Pe7e 2021-04-30T21:24:48Z

I liked the mechanic, it was different from a lot of the other submissions i have played. I will say a little "history" UI would be beneficial to keep track of your last combination.

Also, the song gets to be a little irritating after only a few minutes. But I know you didn't have a lot of time to make it :D

Good stuff overall!

Gold Digger by ThatmanRobin 2021-04-28T00:07:53Z

"Dammit, the drills overheatin'" lmao, i love that voice line.

Drilling is very satisfying when it works well. I have noticed its fairly annoying sometimes when the car flips over though. Happens a decent amount (to me at least). I think with tighter movement controls this could be really really good!

Lord Of The Flies by PixelPortalz 2021-04-26T02:31:16Z

Haha I actually really like this, the theming is spot on. The name of your upgrades gave me a couple laughs, nice work!

LD48 - Just Breathe by Geniye 2021-04-26T04:48:18Z

The game looks really good, the concept is actually super funny. Im convinced the mirror task is impossible, but its okay because i love this game

Dig Deep by GiantWaffle 2021-04-26T07:41:09Z

Wait...why is this so good?! I love it, lol. The noises the battery makes, the panicking of releasing exhaust before you die. This was really fun!

Paragon by LakshyaIsAGod 2021-04-26T07:11:32Z

@voidsay pretty sure thats "Ratings Given" Which would be the games this creator has scored, not the score he is receiving. Could be wrong though tbh lol

Nestence by guimm12 2021-04-26T05:29:45Z

Might be my favorite one I've played so far...going into the TV was very cool! And then the file system. Very awesome idea!

Kikker Kerker by kleingeld 2021-04-26T04:59:16Z

The death noises are probably the best things ive heard all year lol. I like the art style, the game itself is a cool idea but you don't really ever die...you can just run into everything

Surface by lb01 2021-04-26T09:20:57Z

Beautifully done - polished, nice graphics, solid gameplay. Stunning accomplishment for 48 hours.

Deeper & Deeper by Ironicnet 2021-04-26T04:07:01Z

Lol, i love the idea of being attached to another person. Hard to control but entertaining.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Kitastrophe by Jezzamon 2022-04-05T05:33:29Z

@lb01 total side note here, but holy crap, I wish I had known that earlier. I have been sweating bullets trying to find the right hosting platform for my current personal project (started from LD48).

You are a lifesaver for bringing that up! So glad I read this comment!

Numerus Maximus by SimplePotential 2022-04-04T07:30:06Z

This is a good time killer! I played around 6 times or so. I got 254 as a high score, almost perfect!

I know part of the point is that its random, but i think some kind of player influence in terms of gameplay would add a huge bonus to the overall fun of the game. Its made very well, but due to no control, i think it loses its replay-ability after a bit.

Its a nice entry :)

chronis by torcado 2022-04-08T06:48:10Z

I just gave out my first 5-star in innovation for the whole jam! This was a really, REALLY clever idea. I love it.

I think personally for me the gameplay was just a little slow, it could use maybe faster paced.

Graphics were solid and pleasing. This was great overall, nice job!

Adelie - Chasing Pavements by Meep 2022-04-04T07:47:07Z

The NES-era aesthetic on this kicks serious ass! Man, the whole thing really comes together. The bootup screen is so awesome.

One of my favorites so far. I don't have a ton of critique, other than the lack of background music, and the snowball sprite doesn't rotate!

This was really awesome. Great work!!

Life's the Wurst by jimmothysanchez 2022-04-06T02:47:09Z

Lmao, the concept for this game is flat out awesome :laughing:

Art style is very pleasing and striking - the wiggle the hot dogs do are awesome, and i love their little screams!

A few things I think need some tweaking: - Camera is a little too close to the wiener, i think it needs to be zoomed out more - Gameplay is a little barren, there are only two enemies and i think its pretty easy to survive since the forks/knives are so slow - The music is just a little too loud/bombastic. At least imo!

I also noticed the jump sound wasn't bound to the jumping mechanic, rather just the press of a spacebar.

This was a great submission overall though. Nice work!

Worm Food by Genpaku 2022-04-05T05:15:28Z

Okay, this is pretty funny, not gonna lie. Definitely made me laugh :laughing:

The animations on the snake after eating you are really funny too.

I mean, I think its on purpose, but the gameplay isn't very fun. Its literally just mashing a button...maybe like, having a set of 4 buttons pop up on the screen in random order and having to respond to that instead of just spamming one button over and over again would be a little better. Or maybe playing microgames of some kind. Idk, I just think spamming spacebar for 1 minute isn't really that fun.

However, I still think this is a good entry. It gave me a good laugh and it looks pretty decent. Good job!

Graveyard Path by JOrbits 2022-04-08T07:41:22Z

There were a lot of things I liked about this!

Standouts: - Levels were designed really well - Age/time mechanic was awesome - Graphics were nice and cohesive

A few things that I would maybe improve: - Lots have said already, but the "blind jumps" were pretty rough at times, even with the respawn mechanic. Just doesn't feel good! - Platforming in general feels like, off...I think it could use some tweaking with the physics/movement - Music wasn't really my favorite (could just be me)

This was a great entry overall, nice work :)

Delay The Inevitable - Card Game by jessefreeman 2022-04-05T00:18:49Z

I don't have a printer, but I just want to say that the fact you made an actual card game for LD is actually so awesome.

Return to the Glade in the Sky by AdroitConceptions 2022-04-04T23:37:47Z

I like this a lot overall. It feels very complete, and the art style is honestly really nice. Its simple but effective.

I think in terms of polish, its almost there, buts its missing a couple of features to really take it to the next level: - Better communication to the player about which platforms are how far away (can be hard to tell if you're going to make a jump or not, or which islands are jumpable and their heights and stuff). I think some better lighting / shadows / camera angles could help with this! - Sound effects for the player - More variety in terms of soundtrack (its pretty repetitive) - Theme is pretty much irrelevant here (I see you remade your first game, which is cool, but it doesn't really fit the theme at all :)

This is a really solid game though dude! Congrats on making a very finished product with multiple levels :) the block animations are by far my favorite part.

Return to the Glade in the Sky by AdroitConceptions 2022-04-04T23:52:25Z

@adroitconceptions you're welcome!

Yeah, I totally get it. I (and many others) struggled a lot with this theme. I think it was the most difficult one I have participated in so far.

I hope one day there is an actual theme for redoing an old project, because it sounds like a bunch of fun to do!

Cheers dude :smile:

steve&steve by stoogebag 2022-04-05T01:42:58Z

Not going to lie, I was a bit skeptical at first. I really didn't think I was going to have a good time playing this.

Then, I started laughing at your dialogue. And then, I started being like "oh wow, these levels are actually designed with a lot of care". And then Steve revealed his plan to take the chickens. And I decided I shouldn't judge a book by its cover (btw, you should add a cover photo!!)

I think the graphics are the only thing that deterred me initially, and I do think there is a lot of room for improvement in the visual department. But the game was fun, and the puzzles were well done, and you wrote a great unique story!

Nice work.

Neverending Neck by flyingbear 2022-04-04T05:00:09Z

Just finished a few rounds of playing this!

First off, I really enjoyed the little animation detail with the shoulder shrugging when you move right/left.

The concept is really basic - in terms of gameplay, that is. I think something I would improve about it is maybe add some kind of powerup, or some other kind of mechanic, other than just left/right. Its just not a lot in terms of what you can do.

The music isn't bad at all, but it gets repetitive really fast.

That being said, the cover photo really grabbed my attention. Your concept is extremely funny, ngl. Made me laugh out loud.

Red Riding Hood by Jiri Hysek 2022-04-04T23:47:55Z

I very much enjoyed the art style. You got the nice Limbo-ish aesthetic going on here, and it works well with the animation of the wolves as well. I can tell you are a very good artist!

The gameplay I think could use some tweaking. The jumping didn't feel super smooth, the attack animation stops the character from moving (and the collision between the wolves felt inconsistent), and sometimes its impossible to tell between what is background and non-collidable and what is in the foreground and part of the map that is interactable. The hide mechanic is a nice idea, but I didn't really find it too useful considering you can just stab the wolves instead.

The physics overall just felt not very tuned, and kind of elementary - but it is a game jam, so its understandable!

I also wasn't the biggest fan of the music - i see what you were going for, but it just kind of felt dissonant and not very cohesive.

Its tough to focus on making everything solid in a game jam, but you definitely made art that is above and beyond solid. I would just say next time try and also add the same level of polish to the gameplay, and it will provide a more unified experience.

Nice work overall though! :)

Red Riding Hood by Jiri Hysek 2022-04-05T20:36:04Z

@jiri-hysek no problem! Sorry, I just noticed the note you left above talking about avoiding the more critical feedback. I wish I had seen that before I left my comment!

Hope I didn't come across as rude. There were plenty of things I enjoyed about your game!

Three Body by Avi 2022-04-04T05:14:09Z

You have a really interesting take on the theme here, using a 3 body system knowing that collisions will inevitably occur. I also think that the execution was really well done!

A few things I noticed when playing: 1. There is no indicator at the beginning telling you which planet you are in control of (not a huge deal, play once and you learn) 2. The execution was done really well, but there isn't really a ton to do. I see that you were experimenting with ML Agents, which probably explains the lack of other types of content in the game. If I were you I would have added maybe an easy and a hard mode, where there are 2 and 4 bodies respectively. 3. Going off point above, I don't really love the scoring system. I almost think that if you had changed it from points-based to instead "survive for x seconds", you could have added the leveling system from easy-medium-hard-xhard, and so on, so that there is more of a reason to continue playing the game after a minute or two. 4. Lastly - no sound!! I was sad because I think a soundtrack and some sci-fi synthy SFX could have brought up the polish on this project by a lot.

All in all, I think you have a really great concept here, and its also a really innovative take on the theme (which I know I, and a lot of other people, struggled with a lot). The foundation is 100% there, but I think it needs a fairly hefty boost in content and maybe a slight adjustment to the win conditions to bring it up to that next level.

Cheers mate!

Fruitloose by caeonosphere 2022-04-05T00:39:11Z

I really loved this game. It might be my favorite so far! The game felt very complete.

Things I loved about the game: - Very pretty aesthetic. Cute character - Music was good - Intricate gameplay. Lots of variety for solving the puzzles. - The name is very cute (Fruitloose)

A few tweaks I would maybe make to it: - Although the music is good, it doesn't quite fit the atmosphere the game has going for it - Instructions/controls aren't clear at the beginning. It took me a few levels to figure out how the door sliding works with the auto-movement of the character, and at first it was jarring when the character started to move a bunch more spaces (until I figured out that the # of spaces increases after each move) - I don't really see how it fits the theme - How dare you not include more levels for me to play :laughing:

Really great job!

Fruitloose by caeonosphere 2022-04-05T06:57:07Z

@caeonosphere Lol! Its still great music, you did a good job with it. I just felt like it didn't fit the vibe, could just be me though :)

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice that it was randomly generated...I'll have to go back again and play it some more now that I know that!

No Time To Leave by Attala 2022-04-05T01:31:43Z

Very impressive for the time given! I liked quite a lot of things about this submission.

Things I particularly liked: - Countdown timer being increased by various things (charging batteries, killing bots) - Picking up only one thing at a time is a neat idea - Female intercom voice is a sweet polish element - Robot guys look very interesting with their square red screens - FPS in 48 hours is dope - Corridor design is awesome

Things could maybe use some tweaking: - Charging batteries imo took a little too long, i would decrease the time it takes to charge - Shooting felt not great. Not sure how to pinpoint it: could be the robots had too much health, the rate of fire is too slow, or maybe the aiming is a bit off. I noticed the shots would only go towards the cursor if they traveled a certain distance first, meaning close-range aiming would end up with me aiming at a robot and it would actually hit a dead robot on the ground instead - Map was confusing. I know its a game jam and you got a ton in already, but a minimap of some kind would have added that extreme level of polish! - Some kind of background soundtrack would have also bumped up the polish level to an extreme

Really cool game overall. Nice work!

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-04T06:35:03Z

@billnotic Thank you for the feedback!

Yeah, I struggled a lot with the camera. It was coming down to the wire and I was trying to fix the jank, but there is a few issues with it still.

Hahaha yeah, that was just the end of the game...I wanted to do something more but it was pretty much 6pm at the time so thats just the end :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I tried to have it be "you're just one robot trying to save the ship, but there's too much trash and its inevitable that you will fail", for the theme. I could have conveyed that more through the dialogue though :)

Thanks for playing!

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-04T06:37:08Z

@attala hey thank you! Yeah, I spent a good 2 hours on the music. I make electronic music as a hobbyist, and its one of my favorite parts of game dev. Thank you for the praise! :bow:

Nah, its okay to critique other people's projects even if you didn't do it yourself. I do that as well - we all know what SHOULD be good, we just don't all have the time to do it ourselves, hah!

I appreciate the feedback. I wanted to light the room a little more, but I had to choose between taking another lighting pass and getting the rudimentary AI/combat room in...I chose the latter. I agree though!

Thank you!

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-04T06:48:24Z

@avi thank you for playing the game!

I appreciate the praise, I spent a little bit too long on writing the shader for the line pulsing, but I'm glad you think it came out cool!

Ugh, yeah, thats actually just the end of the game...its not even a bug :grimacing: I spent a lot of time doing other things (like music/sfx, shader stuff, etc) so when it came to the end of the game it was like 5:50pm and I chose to kill the application at the end of the game. So thats actually intentional :laughing: not the best decision on my end...

Yeah, I tried lots of different things for the projectile direction determination. Its absolutely not perfect, you are right.

Thank you for all the feedback!

[EDIT]: I actually decided to make a quick fix for the ending since multiple people are thinking the game is crashing. Thanks again for the feedback :)

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-05T03:55:13Z

@lb01 thank you very much! I spent too long on the music, hence the abrupt ending :laughing:

Yes, I am unfortunately aware of that problem. I'm assuming you played the WebGL version - I used Unity 2019, and even though I'm looping properly (and its a .wav file) it appears its just flat out broken in < 2021 versions.

(see: https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/webgl-audio-stutters-slash-distorts-when-played-for-a-while)

FWIW, it loops fine on Windows version. And the lighting is better too. WebGL caused me all sorts of problems this time around, but I know its important to get a version online since ppl play it more. Ohhh Unity sometimes :upside_down: hahaha

Hey, thanks a bunch for playing and critiquing! :)

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-05T10:03:11Z

@auxiliarymoose thank you so much! Your praise means a lot. I’m really glad you enjoyed it :) I was hoping people would feel exactly like you described when playing, that makes me very happy.

You make some really solid feedback here. The decision to do an autocam versus free floating was maybe not the best, because you’re totally right, it obscures objects sometimes and can cause difficulty for completing the button puzzles.

I know exactly what you mean about the Mario cannon lol. Yeah, I was struggling a lot trying to create the tread sounds. I definitely agree they could use some work!

Thank you again for playing and taking the time to leave such meaningful feedback!

@studio-vykanic thank you! much appreciated :)

@wuppos haha! yeah, i won't tell you where, but one of them is hidden in a pretty hard place to find. I wish I had made the camera a little better but i ran out of time. Yeah, lighting is another thing I didn't work on a ton - thank you for the feedback!

@caeonosphere so close! haha, thank you! I have been working on shader programming for the last year so I wanted to test out my skills :)

@stuntcomposer I'm unworthy of your praise :bow: thank you so much!

@agyrzstar thank you sir o7

@jackaljk thank you! ah, it is definitely there - i just always push to master instead of main (old habits die hard). If you click on branches you can see the code. Or just use this link to the shader (there are two variants, one for one color and one for 2 colors with distortion: https://github.com/williamdewaynecorrin/LudumDare50/blob/master/Assets/src/shader/EmissionFlow.shader )

[EDIT]: @jackaljk to be honest, I'm pretty sure the way I created the emission flow maps isn't the best practice. It results in a lot of jaggies (aliased pixels). Just a note, that if you try it yourself, make sure your flow/emi maps have mipmaps disabled. its impossible to see the emission flowing from far away if they are enabled!

Also, the way the flow map works is a grayscale image from black->white, with black->white being the flow direction. Using gradients usually makes easy best results. For some of the tiles in-game, you can sort of visualize what I'm talking about with these two texture examples:

**Regular emission texture** ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tex_test_grid_emi.png

**Emission flow texture** ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tex_test_grid_flow.png

Run Little Zombie by Tellyhead 2022-04-05T03:02:09Z

Things I loved: - Art style is fantastic. Zombie is cute as hell, and the grim reaper is really cool looking. Environment is great, textures are nice for the feel of the game - Game is simple to understand and easy to grasp - Background music fits the aesthetic very well

Things that I would personally tweak: - Camera angle is too close to where you have a hard time seeing the place you're going to jump. - Jumping felt awkward sometimes. Maybe have a few frames of lenience when falling, so that even if you jump when you had just left the ground, it still lets you jump - The grim reaper sound effect was a little too loud and kinda broke my ear drums after a while :laughing:

Really great entry overall, nice work!

Crisis Chef: 28 Plates Later by simba 2022-04-05T20:15:34Z

This was a fantastic entry. The gameplay loop of balancing serving vs. defending was surprisingly fun!

Not only that, but you created an _extremely_ cohesive atmosphere: the music, the sfx, the art, the animations, the little polish with things lighting up to indicate selection...just a fantastic job all around!

For purely the sake of adding feedback, which I do for every game I play, I will say two things: - It felt weird to me that the gun was attached to the player sprite only via flipping the x axis. Meaning, when you aim in a different direction than youre facing, it looks really awkward when the bullets come flying out of the tip of the gun on the right and go through the player to the left. Maybe a 360deg rotation for the gun would have been a better design? - I wanted a little more variety in terms of things you could buy/cook. I mean, this is obviously something you guys would have done if you weren't limited on time, but I really would have loved to experiment with different guns, food options, rebuilding barricades, etc.

Honestly, with the time you guys had, this is just a phenomenal game. Truly, I had the most fun playing this game so far out of any other.

[EDIT]: forgot to mention...your tutorial is top-notch. Best tutorial I've seen so far.

C.O.R.E by KaisenTheGreatOne 2022-04-05T00:19:58Z

@games-by-tom same thing here. Still hasn't been updated yet - @kaisenthegreatone you should update it so people can play!

Icebreak by tylerstraub 2022-04-06T23:32:58Z

This was an awesome entry all around. It felt very cohesive and complete.

The graphics were simple but very effective, the entire game had this retro arcade/NES vibe going for it.

The mechanics were surprisingly deep for how simple the concept is! Rebuilding, dropping bombs, pushing, outwitting the opponents - very nice! I'm super impressed.

I only have two things I would personally change: - I would love to get some points when an enemy falls into a hole! My favorite thing to do was just walk around and create treacherous paths with the hopes they would fall in :laughing: - Sometimes the AI seems unpredictable, like I'm not always sure where they are going to move and what square i am going to end up on if i get hit.

Two very small things. Grain of salt, they are just my opinions.

This was a kickass game!

Estrella by Xiris 2022-04-05T03:12:19Z

lightyear.png

This was a super fun game! Man, the music, the art style, the gameplay, all connected to each other very well.

I really don't have much critique to give you. I liked almost all of it.

The one thing I will say that bugged me is that, when you finish one word, if the last letter is the same as the first letter of another word, it will count that letter already typed on new words. This is counterproductive imo and distracting because normally, you see a word (lets say Exoplanetary) and you type the whole thing, then you are looking at another word as you finish (lets say, Yellow) and so you immediately go to type "Y" to begin Yellow. But since "Y" has already counted, you type "Y" and it gives you the error and makes you restart the word.

I like to think I type fairly fast, so I type the whole word really fast, and it totally messed me up a few times because I knew i typed "Yellow" (example) correctly, but the word didn't go away because it started with the "Y" filled out from a totally different word.

Anyways. Overall this is a really great game. Fantastic work!

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-04T05:27:21Z

I played this for at least 10 minutes or so. I really enjoyed it!

Things I really liked that you did: - Movement + steering feels tuned well - Color palette is very appealing - 3D stylized aesthetic is very nice - Incorporated humor in a charming way - Little animation of the character rolling on jump and on finish

Things that I think could use a little work: - Unclear how/when music notes are spawned. They seem to just appear only after a certain amount of time, but maybe have a timer or something on the UI explaining that - The text is part of the aesthetic, and I like how big it is in the menu and after you win, but having the text take up 50% of the viewport and overlap your character mid-game is very jarring and distracting - The hand seems like it just comes out of NOWHERE. And I know you are aware of this and made a really funny joke about it (I very much enjoyed your description lol). But in terms of the gameplay, I felt cheesed sometimes like there was just nothing I could do about it as a player. I guess that fits the theme for this year though ;) - No music or SFX! In a game about an alarm clock! Sad :(

Overall, this is a really solid game!! So far its the most fun one I've played :) good job!

Tower of cards by Vhalenn 2022-04-04T05:51:00Z

This game has a lot going for it! Here are all the things I really enjoyed about your project:

- Graphics: these are phenomenal graphics! The bloom on the top of the building, the subtle swaying of the tower when you build more floors, and the background with the other towers create a really nice atmosphere. - Sound Effects: The little noises when the text boxes pop up, and the drum-ish sound when building another floor add great polish. - Theme: I never thought I would be in a situation where "the inevitable" that is being delayed is...me getting fired. Lol. I think the concept of an unkeepable balance between employee satisfaction and shareholder satisfaction is a very unique take on the theme.

I have a few minor tweaks/suggestions that I will share as well: - Tutorial is very confusing. Its kind of all over the place and the explanations for some of the UI don't really make any sense - The communication to the player on what is happening in the game isn't always clear. I understand some of it, but since 100% of your game is UI-focused, I think that leads to inevitable confusion due to the complexity of trying to relay all that information in a pleasing and informative manner to the player. I don't really have a solution for this, but I do think that it is an issue when playing the game. - I like the ambience of the people, but I'm not a huge fan of the little song you have playing in the background. Maybe thats just me though :)

Overall, this was a really killer submission! My favorite graphics I've seen so far, and a very very interesting concept that was well executed. Great job!

Ice-olation by badoomtch 2022-04-05T03:49:06Z

Very well done on your game here. I have a lot of great things to say about it, with only some minor critical feedback.

The good: - Graphics are great; you have nailed the low-poly/minecraft aesthetic here - Polish on your artistic elements are present: the subtle flow of the ocean up and down that is visible through the watering hole, and the objects in the water are bouyant and move up and down with the ocean level - Snow particles, water particles, etc. are great - Nailed down the timing on surviving for hunger + warmth - Unique mechanics for fishing/cutting - The ship model coming to get you is pretty awesome, i love that you can actually see it approaching with your own eyes

The "I would add": - more SFX is needed in some places, like for when fish fly out of the watering hole, when you're done cooking fish, and a few other alerts (like for low hunger or low warmth) - I think the movement is frustratingly slow. I would love to see a trade-off of player choice: maybe you can sprint, but it kills your hunger meter faster - I love the two mechanics you added, but i want something else. Even if its just a different watering hole with different fish, or smaller trees with only 2 X's that only hand out 1 piece of wood: i think there is a little more variety needed in the things you can do - Similar to above, but the iceberg you are on is overall barren. Theres a lot of empty space - Nbd, I figured it out fast, but the instructions for fishing are incorrect - You can crouch but there is no reason to. I would love a smaller igloo that you need to crouch into and find something, even an easter egg with no effect on gameplay - The background music feels like its only 8 bars long and gets repetitive pretty quickly

Overall this was a really fun entry to play! I died the first time but "survived" the second time :wink: nice job!

My Girlfriend Wants a PUPPY!! by James_7777 2022-04-05T00:25:43Z

This is an extremely cute game. I love the art quite a lot, and the little animations and different character poses are a nice touch.

The little story you incorporated is also very cute.

Maybe its just me, but I didn't find the gameplay to be that intriguing. It didn't matter a ton, because as far as I can tell, the point of the game is more about the story!

I did find that the single song got pretty repetitive after only a few minutes, so I think another track, or a longer one, would go a long way.

The dog sprite is ADORABLE

Nice job!

Herbert vs Homework by Str8griz 2022-04-05T20:31:43Z

Haha, this had me laughing for a good bit multiple times. You incorporated humor into this entry in one of the best ways I've seen so far. The note at the end with the poop and misspelling and the teacher's corrections are awesome.

The little asscheek monsters were hilarious...and the voicelines were pretty funny too :laughing:

I think the tutorial could use a little bit of work, its kind of all over the place and really hard to read. Even just splitting it up onto multiple pages and having a (1/5) (2/5) at the bottom with arrows to scroll to the next page would make it drastically easier to read!

I also think the game itself is lacking in some UI/player feedback - I would have loved a kill counter of some kind, so that I could compare runs to each other to see how many people I killed!

One last thing too, is that I think the diving was a bit too far - you dive like, 1/3 of the screen! It made it a little too easy to escape enemies.

This was a really solid game though! I had fun and you made me laugh multiple times. Love the concept, the art was cute. Good job!

PlantBad CO. by KewDev 2022-04-05T05:11:03Z

I can tell you worked hard on this! It feels very complete.

I enjoyed the newspaper ending, and finding all three of the different endings was fun :)

I will say, I know part of the point is that you're doing mundane tasks, but once I was the only robot left and I had to just keep running to the coal pile and placing one in every single reactor over and over again, it got pretty boring...I think in terms of the gameplay, something different should have been done (maybe there is a second or third kind of task for each different reactor).

The story was great though, and I loved the humor you put into the game.

Great work!

Escaper by Krg 2022-04-05T03:26:29Z

I really enjoy your concept here. Its a cool idea. I think it needs a lot of work in places though.

Things I liked about your entry: - Very solid idea for gameplay - The soul thing is a cool mechanic - Cute bouncy character with gelatinous feel/sound to him - Movement feels pretty good

Things I think need some work: - Picking up the wrong key is a death sentence, with no way to drop it - Collision is busted on the edges of platforms. You will just get stuck sometimes with no way to get out - The tutorial is really confusing and the rocket is alive in the tutorial with sounds and particles still, with only the sprite disabled - There is no visual indication on walls that you can pass through as the Soul and walls that you cannot. Having a different sprite or color would go a long way in indicating to the player that it is passable - Some of the jumps are borderline impossible to make - There is no music, and no art other than the rocket and the character. The exit is just a red box, platforms are just gray rectangles. Just a little something more to match the character and the rocket would be great - Visual artifacts on all of the key sprites

Overall, I think its the foundation for something really good and interesting, but I believe there are quite a few kinks that need to be ironed out.

Btw...I don't think its very nice to just leave a comment on someone else's game saying "not good". I saw you did that on another person's page (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/ice-olation).

At least be constructive and try not to be rude.

Keep It Up! by iDunnyX 2022-04-04T07:44:43Z

Although a very simple concept, you have executed it very well.

I almost did something similar when I was thinking of the theme - it fits very well with it!

It does lose replayability after a few goes. Maybe some kind of powerups or a different level (maybe with a sharp object that pops the balloon or something) would go a long way!

The song is nice, but its a little too short - it started to get on my nerves after a few minutes :laughing:

This is a really solid entry! Nice work! :)

ZEZ by tengusheath 2022-04-05T05:22:49Z

I think I agree with @austin-sierra. This game is obviously well made, the graphics are nice, there is sound effects and music, and it feels very complete.

I just couldn't really find myself getting into it - I think for me it was maybe the gameplay. It was very much rinse and repeat, and I don't think my health bar even dropped below 80. I let a bunch of guys swarm me to see what happened, and then I just slashed all of them at once and got back up to 100.

I think for me, its missing the challenge element. It _looks_ like a game that should be a tough action game that rewards sleek movement and precise combat. But it _plays_ more like a really easy point+click game with no consequences for not performing well.

Anyways. Sorry if thats too much critique. I do think its a really solid game that is built very well. I just wanted to give my honest feedback :)

Great work!

Ludum Dare by She Wrote 2022-04-04T05:37:48Z

I think you have personified what it feels like to remember your 9th birthday very well. The colors, drawings, etc. are combined in a way that definitely makes me feel like I'm playing a birthday party for a young child.

With that being said, I didn't really....get it. The game isn't much of a game really, and it was extremely difficult for me to even understand what was going on if I'm being honest.

The gameplay department definitely leaves a lot to be desired, in the nicest way possible. I think something that would help out a lot with this is to have some kind of direction, some sort of que, just something to guide the player on what is happening.

On the flipside, you have built an interesting story!

I do also think the take on the theme and the overall style is well executed considering what you were going for! Its a very unique art style, I cant say I have seen someone use this type of hand-drawn aesthetic like this.

Slime Rise by haztro 2022-04-05T06:55:05Z

Has potential to be one of the best games of the whole jam.

The art is simple yet really aesthetically pleasing. The atmosphere is completed with the very nice synthy pads, and 8-bit SFX. The gameplay has good replayability due to the random spawns of other slimes.

The only complaint I really have is that the AI for the people you save is kind of bad...there should be some way to actually direct them, or they should be smarter and actually follow you instead of literally climbing down a 4-unit ladder into the slime after building a house. :laughing:

Really awesome game dude!

AGAIN! AGAIN! by CrocodileTuesday 2022-04-04T21:33:15Z

againagain_score.png

I'm pretty proud of my score. I felt kinda sick towards the end though lol!

I really like the concept, and the roller coaster track is really cool. Assuming you built splines for it? Nice work on that!

Someone else above said it, and I agree - limiting the player's rotation I think also limits the gameplay capabilities. It would be nice to be able to have more directional freedom.

Also, the graphics are a bit of a mix - the coaster looks awesome, and you have some really vivid text, but then the character's arm is like clipping through the near plane of the camera. And some of the other stuff isn't super visually appealing.

Overall I really like this though! Fun concept and solid execution. What was your high score?

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-06T23:23:31Z

This was awesome! Your cover image caught my eye, very appealing graphics with the civ-style hexagons.

Gameplay was really innovative, I enjoyed the random card mechanics along with the freezing for discarding.

Being able to zoom in and rotate the camera was a great touch. I did really want to be able to pan the camera at times too, so unless i missed how to do that, that would be a nice addition.

Also, I did feel like there was some communication problems in terms of when you can/can't buy a card - I was thinking red text = not enough, but in reality it was just red text = negative resources for a particular card. Maybe having the card be grayed out when you can't buy it would be helpful!

Overall this was a really awesome game. Great job!

Heat by Wuppos 2022-04-04T06:52:21Z

Solid submission!

I very much enjoyed the art style. Nice pixel graphics are always a win in my book :thumbsup:

The theme is middle-ground to me. I think it fits the theme well, but I also think its a little bit obvious (people are going to die, don't let them die kind of thing).

I had a lot of fun playing for the first few minutes! The only thing is that after your first couple playthroughs, the gameplay starts to feel a little simplistic at times, I think there needs to be a few things added to make it feel more rich. Putting out fires and dragging humans is only so entertaining for a short while :D

But overall I really like what you got accomplished in the short time we had!

Global Eggstermination by owca 2022-04-08T07:55:21Z

I loveeee this game! This is one of my favorites so far.

- Graphics were absolutely perfect. The eggs with the spider robot legs and the egg beaters...awesome. The environment had a nice low poly style to it, the gun was nice and sci-fi looking, and the particle FX were great! - Sounds (for things that had them) were also really well done. - Gameplay loop was really solid. Two different enemies (one to chase you, one for reactor) was a very good decision. I think just having one or the other would have gotten stale quickly

A few notes of feedback (i see you have made post-jam changes already, but i will pretend like i didnt see the patch list :P ) - Mostly i just wish there was more feedback to the player: - Black egg robots should probably have some kind of sound they make when they fire so you know they're attacking. The red ui bar is tough to see go down and you're not always looking at the gen - When something is in danger of dying, there should be a warning symbol on the screen or maybe a sound effect of some kind - Hard to tell which generator is which. When reactor X is dying, I would like to see something big in the environment near the reactor that says X, so i know which one to go to

Honestly other than that it was a damn near perfect game jam entry...great job!

win.png

I finally did it!

It took me lots of different attempts and strategies, and at one point I almost gave up...but the long block precision placement is definitely the meta ;)

Dang, can't tell you how much fun I had with this! The concept for this game is awesome. I think it could use some adjustments: - Green and white blocks are kinda meh, I didn't really use them for any strategies - Maybe some variance in the design of the pit (like the hole in the middle instead of the sides, only one side has a pit, etc. - Some kind of powerup would be useful maybe. Its a really hard game! But very rewarding to beat - I really like the little robot guy, and i see you said above you didn't have much time, but other stuff needs some more amp in the graphics department

Dude I seriously loved this game. Played for like 30 min until I won lol. Nice work!

Over the Rainbow Bridge by Iguanana 2022-04-05T01:37:48Z

Your game made me feel a certain type of way :cry:

The story was so cute. The blurb about the cheese tasting bad was exactly how a dog would think.

I have to say, I didn't really enjoy the gameplay particularly. But I don't really care, because you created a story about something I was very invested in. I played all the way until the end and maybe a little tear rolled down my cheek when he ran across the rainbow out of screen at the end :cry:

Great job invoking emotions from your players in only 48 hours!

Venting Machine by EmberUshi 2022-04-05T05:28:57Z

So I just got finished playing another spacebar mashing game before playing this one, and the feedback I had left on the other game is something along the lines of "I wish there was some other element other than just mashing spacebar".

I think as simple as it is, holding up and down arrow to actually _choose_ the direction you mash in is a perfect way to add just a tad more to the gameplay. I played this for a solid 10 minutes or so until I hit about 500m. I had a lot of fun with it!

You have this really unique art style going with the cyberpunk-esque designs and the mortal kombat style animations of the character beating up the machine.

I also really enjoyed the "bonus" punches that you can do after it goes flying - the only thing is, there isn't really much of an indication that even exists to do. I didn't even realize until I accidentally hit the spacebar when reaching for my coffee (lol).

So yeah, really solid game. The only things I would change are: - convey to the player that they can hit spacebar after shooting the machine initially for the extra bonus shots - I would like a short description of what each character along the track does when you run into them. I figured it out that the one person with the cig stops the machine, one of them kicks it, one of them punches it, etc., but I think a little menu where you can scroll through the profiles and see their "attributes" with a blurb about what kind of a person they are, would really tie the whole theme together as well as give the player insight on what to avoid.

Great work!

SferePhall by auxiliarymoose 2022-04-04T07:56:26Z

This felt like a very complete entry. I love the concept of a marble destined to fall to its ground, with the gameplay mechanics of various abilities to try and stop it.

I will say though, at first the controls were a little awkward - I was thinking the UI buttons were "click to select, click to place" but they acted more of a drag-and-drop.

Not a huge deal, as you play and you learn as you go.

Really love the concept, fits the theme well, has some nice simplistic graphics. Really solid entry overall!

Reactor Guy by GummiBot 2022-04-05T20:23:15Z

@gummibot if its a bug like that, you are allowed to fix it and update it :) you're just not supposed to add anything new, but as far as bugs go, its pretty widely accepted to be okay to fix it during rating!

Anywho, I really liked the setup and the concept here. The little ring you walk around and play small minigames to fix/balance the reactor was a good gameplay loop! The art was also not bad at all, and i think you lit the environment really well, and the reactor had some cool effects going.

The music was a little distracting imo, but I very much enjoyed that you added in a sensitivity/volume slider! Thats some solid polish right there.

Some of the minigames were confusing at first. It took me 2-3 playthroughs to understand what to do - i think some more visual indication on the slider minigame would go a long way, since it only turns green once you release it.

Overally this was a really solid entry! Great work :)

Reactor Guy by GummiBot 2022-04-05T20:38:17Z

@gummibot Yes!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules (see: _Additional Notes for both the Jam and Compo_)

No problem. Its your first LD, so I wanted to let you know that its allowed :) and thank you for making a cool game!

Casually Comitting Tax Evasion by Frizuo 2022-04-04T20:50:02Z

Can't believe this is your first one tbh. Really well done, the game is complete and it has a direction, it sticks with its theme, and it has an art style and everything!

I will say that it was extremely confusing to figure out what to do at first - the tutorial being a fat wall of text on the background made for a not-so-fun experience at the beginning.

But once I figured everything out I had a great time playing!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Creature researcher by notime4games 2024-10-07T06:28:39Z

The little chiptune song is awesome. I would have loved to have an animation on the astronaut character. The graphics are cute too!

Adelie - When We Were Young by Meep 2024-10-07T08:51:23Z

Such a cute little entry! I had a great time playing this one! My only real complaint is that i would agree that it was tough to tell that when you drop a fish it stays and becomes a hazard. Not a ton of room to work with for pixels on the pico-8 from what I can tell so not sure what you could do to make it more obvious. Maybe a more ominous sound or something lol.

Awesome job!

ISOPODRICK by Dingbat 2024-10-07T01:07:25Z

Pixel graphics on the 3D models work well for this! I REALLY love the camera transition from TPS to rolling around, and the character controls well.

That being said, the shooting straight up doesn't work half the time - the combat doesn't seem to work well at all either. The enemies look really cool but with no options that work well its a bit too tough.

Very ambitious project. You got a lot done!

Tiny Beast Hunter by neowhoru 2024-10-15T02:23:21Z

Nice job on this! Overall its a really solid entry. I would like to echo some of the other sentiment about "leaps of faith", as I call them, where you have to just put trust in the level designer to not have spikes that kill you where you have no agency to avoid them. There were multiple instances of that, which made it pretty frustrating at times.

The concept is great though, and its a full game with multiple levels and mechanics. Nicely done!

Oddball Assembly by Daniel Alhadeff 2024-10-07T00:12:01Z

This was a really cool idea and the graphics and feel of the game were incredibly unique!

Tiny Trooper by Juutis 2024-10-07T07:47:48Z

This is an awesome entry! Honestly, the only complaint I have is the controls - moving with the WASD tank-style controls isn't super conducive to this kind of topdown-like game IMO.

I also feel like the player has a bit too much health.

This was really great! Congrats!

Sammy's Playground by ThatSommeS 2024-10-14T03:38:50Z

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-06T23:41:01Z

@nickhellquist thank you!! its funny you say that because before I published I was trying to make it not buggy and I felt like it wasn't working well for me lol :laughing: glad it worked well for you!

What I mean by "not buggy" was I found myself having to press each button more than once to get it to align properly, instead of just once.

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T01:39:00Z

@ariast thank you very much!

@xsil thank you, I'm glad you think so!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:12:23Z

@ejunegao Lol, that is an awesome comparison, thanks for sharing your anecdote! I'm glad I could help recover a core memory using the slimes haha.

This was a weird jam for me, I normally focus on graphics a bit later, but this time I wanted to make the slime shader and character almost immediately. My strongest point as a dev is my programming and gameplay skills, so I guess it makes sense to put more effort into the characters since its one of my weaker areas...

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:12:40Z

@svenerik @braulio-jg @arscene thank you all very much! I honestly felt like it was missing something when I submitted it lol but I guess thats how we all feel when game jamming, isn't it? :grin:

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:13:33Z

@dogesquad thank you! I put the cloud models in like, literally 15 minutes before the deadline ended lol. I'm glad the world felt cohesive.

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:15:00Z

@ariast That is far too kind of you :bow: I'm just glad you like it! I think most of our goals as devs is to make games people want to play, so you just made my day :)

If I wasn't working on a new project for my small indie studio, maybe I would consider it - the last thing I need is more distractions right now LOL

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:16:42Z

@olddog Thank you so much! Yeah, I tried to get everything mostly bug-free, but the blade splitting is a tad bit wonky for sure :sweat_smile: that and the camera when you have more than like, 4 or 5 slimes, it starts to get hard to control when you align the slimes in a line.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback :smile:

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:18:32Z

@sviborg Thank you so much! I'm glad you think it looks good, graphics have always been my weakest area of development, but ever since opening up my indie studio I've been working hard to get better at it!

I know of a few bugs too lol, I'm glad they didn't ruin the vibes though.

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:22:02Z

@kernon Thank you! Hahah, you have discovered the #1 design issue with this game (IMO) which is the camera system constantly in a battle with controlling multiple characters...you are very correct also that the camera attempts to focus on the midpoint of your squad.

Your idea of having 1 slime as the leader is interesting! And yeah, having a preview system of some kind before immediately aligning the slimes would absolutely be better than the way it works now, lol! I died myself many times that way, but I didn't really have time to address the issue properly. I barely made a functioning level in time :laughing:

Your feedback was awesome, thanks for taking the time to play, notice the issues, and relay them so well. :grin:

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:25:23Z

@custodi Thanks for the kind praise! I spent a decent amount of time making the splitting and merging feel good. At one point, my fiancée walked in while I was sitting making popping noises with my mouth into the microphone like a buffoon and we both laughed :laughing:

I know the bug you're talking about lol. I tried a bit to fix it, but I couldn't get the step heights to feel good for all sizes of slime in time. When I got it to work for the bigger mass slimes, the smaller ones started to behave weirdly...so I just left it in :bug: :bug: :bug:

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:27:56Z

@franklyn01 Thank you very much! Tutorials are overlooked, you're definitely right - I feel like its always tricky to tell when you need a full-blown tutorial, when you need a smaller one, or if you can skate by with just a fluid mechanics introduction.

I figured for something like this, with a limited time frame, that I would just sprinkle the tutorial throughout the whole first part of the level lol. I mean, the entire game is kind of a tutorial in a way :laughing: if I had more time, I probably would have spent a lot of it making more levels, or at least more sections to this level.

Thanks for playing!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T17:30:36Z

@dropmania Thank you very much! I didn't sleep very much, and barely left my office. That's how it goes with these things usually, I usually take a decent break in between Ludum Dares, and I always wonder why, and then I remember its because I starve myself of sleep, eat like crap, and am constantly stressed out and being a perfectionist the whole weekend lol

But then enough time passes and I'm like...yeah lets do it again!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T18:40:03Z

@rickylee thanks!! I’m glad you liked it! :grin:

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T23:14:19Z

@rynti Thank you! Yeah, not gonna lie, that part kind of just worked out lol, I hadn't necessarily planned on the difficulty scaling naturally like that!

Levels i agree, i ran out of time and barely even had the content in the only level that is there lol

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-07T23:15:00Z

@dooskington LOL yeah I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned that - the whistle mechanic is a bit borked and doesn't really check for walls whatsoever haha

Thanks for playing!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-08T02:54:09Z

@andrewkennedy dude, that is so awesome that you tried to out of bounds it and stuff, lol! I didn’t even know you could get up on the ledge 🤣 the fact you took my game to these heights makes me really happy, thanks for enjoying it and taking the time to leave the feedback and share!

Also, I’m surprised about the camera! I did my best, but I think it starts to break a bit if you have 5-6or more slimes and choose the line formations - glad to hear it didn’t bother you though!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-09T05:51:06Z

@quasilyte Hey thanks a bunch!! Yeah lol, tbh, I thought of the splitting idea before I thought of ways to make it work...I kind of just take an idea and beat it over the head with a hammer until I can't get anything else out of it lol!

Yeah totally I have some advice! You can friend me on Discord if you would like, DM me on Twitter first (https://x.com/corrtexgames) and I can chat more in depth and give you more in depth answers. But in short, I do have over 7 years of professional experience as a gameplay programmer (and I've been developing games since a teenager, just not very good ones lol) with lots of design work as well - some at a AAA studio - and I was nowhere near this good at making games always. Honestly my main advice is just to keep at it, make lots of different kinds of games, play lots of different kinds of games, don't give up, and really think for a bit before jumping straight into a game jam idea!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-09T05:52:15Z

@itsaina thank you! I totally agree, I was tweaking the jumping a bit up until the end and its definitely not in a place that I would want a platformer to have. I'm glad it got the job done enough though lol

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-09T05:52:37Z

@kirass @nicole-a thank you both! :grin:

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-14T03:24:52Z

@ramchops-games Yeah I totally agree, the camera is a bit wonk when it comes to having multiple slimes. Platformers need to have really responsive and solid cameras and this is definitely a downside to picking this kind of game to make for a 48 hour jam lol :grin:

Oh no! I did not encounter that bug...thanks for sharing, they look totally messed up there hahaha

Thank you for playing and leaving quality feedback!

Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-14T03:27:26Z

@haztro thank you! but don't expect anything clean :cry: I always write jank ass code for these jams LOL

The bulk of the code is in this file: https://github.com/williamdewaynecorrin/LudumDare56/blob/master/Assets/src/PlayerSlimeManager.cs

``` if (!isrecalling) { bool canrecall = slimes.Count > 1; foreach (PlayerSlimeRoot slimeroot in slimes) { if (!slimeroot.Slime.Grounded) { canrecall = false; break; } }
if (canrecall) { ERecallType recallresult = PlayerInput.Recall(); if (recallresult != ERecallType.eNone) { slimetarget = SlimeTargetRecallPosition(); isrecalling = true; uihappening.Activate(true, recallsprite);
SFXManager.PlayClip2D(sfxrecall.clip, sfxrecall.volume, sfxrecall.pitch.PickValue());
Vector3 forward = camera.transform.forward.NoY().normalized; Vector3 right = camera.transform.right.NoY().normalized;
if (recallresult == ERecallType.eCircle) { // -- set positions in a circle float angle = 0f; float angleinc = (Mathf.PI * 2.0f) / (float)slimes.Count; foreach (PlayerSlimeRoot slimeroot in slimes) { // -- reset local pos on root slimeroot.SetTargetLocalPosition(Vector3.zero);
// -- set angle to target instead Vector3 lpos = right * Mathf.Cos(angle) + forward * Mathf.Sin(angle); slimeroot.Slime.BeginRecall(slimetarget + lpos); angle += angleinc; } } else if(recallresult == ERecallType.eLineForward || recallresult == ERecallType.eLineSideways) { Vector3 linedir = recallresult == ERecallType.eLineForward ? forward : right;
// all in one line float estdistance = slimemasstotal * kOneMassToRadius * 2.0f; float curdistance = -estdistance / 2.0f; foreach (PlayerSlimeRoot slimeroot in slimes) { // -- reset local pos on root slimeroot.SetTargetLocalPosition(Vector3.zero);
// -- set angle to target instead Vector3 lpos = curdistance * linedir; slimeroot.Slime.BeginRecall(slimetarget + lpos);
curdistance += slimeroot.Slime.Mass * kOneMassToRadius * 2.0f; } } } } } ```
Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-14T03:29:15Z
@thatsommes I'm glad you liked it!! Yeah lol, you can split quite a few times, the game starts to behave a little bit weirdly once you have like 16+ and you try to formate them :sob:
Slime Party! by William Corrin 2024-10-18T04:48:48Z
@daniel-alhadeff Hell yeah, Badland is an awesome game! I wasn't specifically thinking about it when making this but I totally see how the feeling is similar :grin:
Thank you - and LOL - I should have made some kind of achievement for getting a crazy amount of slimes, like 50 or something, if I had known people would try to break it so much :laughing:
Cheers!
2048/Suika Tiny Creatures Version by Fernando Tonon de Rossi 2024-10-07T00:47:39Z
@fernando-tonon-de-rossi I think you should opt out of the categories that you used AI to generate(graphics, audio, etc.)
Honestly, I would just throw this into the jam section as opposed to having it be a compo entry. Seems kind of like, the opposite of what the compo is supposed to be about (making everything from scratch).
The game plays fine but its also kind of just unoriginal.
2048/Suika Tiny Creatures Version by Fernando Tonon de Rossi 2024-10-07T07:03:37Z
I definitely disagree; the spirit of Ludum Dare Compo is that all _assets_ (including code, yes) have been made starting from the 48 hour period that the competition begins.
> For me AI is a tool, and by the AI tools rules, the one who prompts owns the rights of what is generated.
Of course the AI tool rules say this, they want you to use the tools. The reality is, AI spits out amalgomations of existing content, and according to actual jurisdiction, you may _not_ be able to use what you generate legally, and you _definitely_ do not outright "own" the things that it spits out. If AI spits out an image of Mario, you don't suddenly own Mario. Thats just not how it works.
> To me it is like some participants who use game engines, while other do the entire engine themselves, is it fair or not? It is a broader discussion…
Of course using engines is fair. I would agree that having a different category for fully-from-scratch games could be a good idea to differentiate the level of achievement. But comparing using a game engine to using AI generated content is _not_ a good comparison to make. A game engine doesn't suddenly make you an amazing pixel artist, a refined sound composer, or a voice actor. It just gives you the ability to have a game loop, physics, collisions, rendering, etc. These two are not even remotely comparable.
You're right that there should be clear rules for this. But the last thing I personally want to see in the Compo where the spirit is literally "48 hours all assets from scratch" is a game completely made up of AI generated content. Seems like it goes against the competition entirely.
Also, sorry to hijack your game for this issue specifically; but I do think its important to talk about as it becomes used more and more.
Flea Patrol by Sviborg 2024-10-07T21:46:15Z
Its cute! My favorite part was definitely the dog shaking its leg when a flea reaches him, lol, that was a great touch.
The amount of levels was really good for only 48 hours!
The graphics were a bit rough around the edges. Good job overall :smile:
Beachfront by DecadeDecaf 2024-10-07T07:49:56Z
This is such a cute entry lol. Kevin is my favorite. Graphics and audio steal the show, the gameplay i feel could have something else, it gets a bit overdone, but the charm kept me going!
Creature Rehabilitation Lab by Anson Rutherford 2024-10-07T00:54:01Z
This is the best message I've ever seen in a LD game lol
Cute idea! Its rough around the edges but theres a lot of charm in here. :)
MicroMan by Johnathan Peres 2024-10-14T03:15:01Z
The concept itself is awesome - what a simple but great idea for a little platformer game!
I found the camera pretty frustrating - I think it needs to not follow the player fully, and needs to show the ground that you are going to land on.
Love and War on Your Face by Googoobachoo 2024-10-07T04:10:24Z
This is an awesome idea for a game!
Standouts: - The planetoid/phaux gravity physics - Rock/paper/scissors mechanics of species - Mating/population control
Work Needed: - Creature movement feels slow and bad, since there is no way for your creature to go any faster than any other creature - i found myself chasing a female Demodex around trying to mate and couldn't catch up at all - The planetoid physics really start to break on the ears and more protruded surfaces - There should be a way for a species to come back to life, once there is only 2 left, it makes it impossible for one to win
Demodex Gang!! Really nice work :)
Bug-Bash Buggy by andrewkennedy 2024-10-07T08:43:58Z
This is such a good entry. The graphics and overall atmosphere of the game is great. The tutorial is so good especially given the amount of time we had! The only complaint I have is that the car kind of starts to freak out as it catches up to the mouse and starts to try and move towards itself over and over again.
The walkie talkie is icing on the cake. Well done!
runner by haztro 2024-10-07T05:35:59Z
It looks really cute, the pixel graphics are nice! I have to admit, it was a bit confusing, and even though I looked at the controls I had a hard time figuring out exactly what to do. Gathering the resources by running into the wood was really satisfying though!
BOILERMEN by diabolical-sloth 2024-10-07T00:43:56Z
I would like to echo @ember44 's sentiment - this is really cool, polished art, great music and sfx, the camera shake is awesome! The gameplay is actually funnily enough similar to the idea I had for mine :laughing: but yeah moving around while some have boulders and others don't is pretty tricky.
Really awesome entry!
Tiny Creatures by kernon 2024-10-07T01:00:05Z
Idea = great. Execution needs some work. The signs are kind of bugged in multiple ways, and i think instead of the player's forward direction being the means to place signs, it should be the camera's forward direction with no y component.
Needs more time in the oven. Great entry for a jam though!
Keep It Up Kitty by richjbaron 2024-10-07T00:20:18Z
A very nice complete entry. Nice work!
The pixel art graphics were probably my favorite part of the game - the gameplay was a bit generic but its very impressive that you made a complete game!
Such a good entry for Compo!! I love the take on a Katamari kind of game. I was thinking about taking my game in a similar direction actually but went more platformery instead!
The frog was a bit annoying to control with the jumping, and the song got a bit annoying after a while. But honestly thats about the only criticism I have of it, you did such a great job overall!
tiny-ink by nicole_a 2024-10-07T00:34:21Z
This is the most unique looking game I have played so far, and it may be the most i play for the whole jam! Its really awesome looking, and the atmosphere of the game is great.
The gameplay is a bit lackluster and the character controls very oddly, gravity is way too light, and there isn't really collision on anything. But I can tell that wasn't the main focus of the entry. The custom lighting you have with the lines is so cool!
Really awesome work.
Bnuuy by Tetrergeru 2024-10-07T00:24:25Z
The game looks really good! I'm very impressed by the graphics, characters, particles, etc!
The game was a bit difficult and frustrating to control though. I love the humor of the misspelling and the mission briefing though :laughing:
Nice job!
Gnome Cargo by ArcherOfFaith 2024-10-07T00:16:05Z
Congrats on making your first game in Godot!
Tiny Trails by Custodi 2024-10-07T21:54:10Z
This was a really cute entry, I actually love the simple but effective ideas of having the different creatures react slightly differently to the mouse!
I dunno if it was intentional, but having to click NEXT in the top right in order to complete the level actually made it harder. It reminds me of some old flash games on like, addicting games. Its really good overall!
Only thing is some music or SFX would go a long way. And the one level where the yellow triangles are off to the left, totally on the border of the viewport, made it really hard to propel them to the right. I think leaving a "padding" area for clicks-only to be registered to ensure you can propel objects at any angle would be a great fix for that!
Fleabags by RPGWanderer 2024-10-07T23:17:32Z
Just tried out the game, its a cool idea! Honestly your platformer idea that you posted a screenshot of looks really cool! Sorry it didn't end up working out, we have all been there.
Little Guys! by RamChops Games 2024-10-14T03:31:57Z
Oh my god, the sound effects are hilarious, they remind me of like, Banjo Kazooie characters talking on the N64 lol :joy:
The background is a tad distracting like oliver had said but its a fun game!
Incoming Cellular Activity by Ariast 2024-10-07T04:04:32Z
Not bad, its a nice and complete entry! I do wish I could move the camera around a bit, or maybe have the camera follow behind the player, since the static camera angle makes it a bit hard to see whats coming from behind you.
Nice job!
Tiny Wreckers by SHAKIROVICH 2024-10-14T03:22:37Z
This is really fun! You got a lot done for the short time we had - I love the concept of playing as little dust mites, and being able to spawn more and attach them is a great idea as well!
The jump feels a bit unresponsive and kind of slow, and i wish the rolling animation on the dust mite was a bit more responsive as well. But I'm just being picky :) this is a great entry, you should be very proud of yourself!
Hive Mind by Ember44 2024-10-06T23:54:22Z
I like the idea, but the lack of instructions and text made it a bit confusing. Pathfinding would have been awesome for moving the ants simultaneously more but I understand that would have taken a lot of time up!
Congrats on the entry :)
Daredevil Ant by unloosed 2024-10-07T07:42:50Z
Its a bit rough around the edges, but its a nice complete entry!
Particle Wars by NickHellquist 2024-10-07T05:28:19Z
Reminds me a bunch of that new LoL mode. It plays well, the song is nice and catchy!
I agree with the sentiment of others, 10 min was quite a long time for what there was to differ on gameplay. Nice job overall!
Creatures That Are Tiny by Treeation 2024-10-07T00:37:54Z
Did you make this all from scratch with raylib/C? Very cool!
As far as a game goes, there isn't much here, but for not starting with Unity or UE or Godot I'm very impressed. Nice work!
LD59 — Signal
💥Boom Rail🚂 by Dingbat 2026-04-21T00:29:04Z
Ok, first off, this is a really impressive entry and has just about everything going for it - enemies, tons of tracks, a minimap, shooting, etc... Just a soundtrack is whats missing really!
I had fun stacking my train length and thought it was really unique to gear up by simply stopping at towns.
I really only have 2 pieces of criticism: the enemies need some feedback when you hit them, the bullet kind of just disappears and its a bit awkward. More importantly though, when the train is travelling at an angle more towards the screen, the Signal UI no longer accurately reflects which direction is left and which is right since the train's forward axis is now flipped. This makes decision making really tough after looking at the minimap because everything is flipped around.
Maybe having a physical flashing light on the train point left or right itself, or a different mechanism other than arrow keys would be better.
Great job all around its really nice!
A Signal in the Woods by Ethan Allwood 2026-04-20T08:24:28Z
The graphics are really, really nice. And the animations for the player and enemy are as well! Even the bushes flowing in the wind was a great touch. The world really felt alive.
I think I would have preferred something other than deck-building for this kind of game though, although I can absolutely appreciate the genre mishmash and see what you were going for. It just didn't quite stick with me.
Great job!
The Descent Of Johnny Baseball by Jajo 2026-04-20T04:25:55Z
I absolutely love the concept of this, and the humor in it is really great. I'm struggling a bit with the gameplay, but I immediately clicked on the game because of the ridiculous concept and the fact you named someone Johnny Baseball, lol.
Signal Back! by sinemual 2026-04-20T04:43:01Z
I really love the atmosphere with the scientist and the chalkboard you have going on. I figure this is kind of a take on an idler game combined with a bit of a puzzle game? It was fun! Really solid entry all around, there weren't any shortcomings.
Also - your Steam game looks wild...enslaving Gnomes? You monster :laughing:
Signal-flag Shuffle by HacksawUnit 2026-04-20T04:34:15Z
The fact that you made the pirate have his face change animations to laughing and being scared depending on what your last action was icing on the cake.
This is my favorite one so far, nice job!
Footsypool by Antti Haavikko 2026-04-20T04:53:48Z
You have made a really addicting little game, and its so cute too! Love the music and the little characters. Lots of juice. Great job
Cheeky Cherry Choo Choo by Phlip45 2026-04-20T04:22:00Z
You had some very funny sound effects, I enjoyed the layered audio of what I presume is you talking - having a settings menu for sound was great too!
I was a bit confused by the gameplay in general, I got the gist of it though.
Peter's divine intervention by metalgear 2026-04-20T04:59:24Z
It took me a little bit to understand that every character only responded to a knock if they were within the confines of the sphere, but once I figured it out it was a cute little game! The interaction with the father was very heartwarming.
Flirting 101 by OadT 2026-04-20T22:59:02Z
Ah I tried this yesterday and was confused, but it looks like you fixed the bug on the Itch page - nice!
Its a cute little puzzle game. The graphics are simple but polished and its pretty appealing on the eyes. The levels themselves seem simple at a glance but as you play through them, the mechanics start to show depth (in a good way). For instance, the target "love interest" (man? lol) being placed away from a corner at the start but having him move into a corner later makes for different shooting decisions.
However, there isn't really any "pressure" or driving force to prevent me from just spamming arrows, and also after the first few levels I was really wishing there was some kind of fast-forward mechanic as it got tedious to wait for everything to arrive at destinations. And I do wish there was a different kind of shooting sound on the bow, and some kind of hypercasual soundtrack would have done wonders!
Such a solid entry all around. Great work!
Relay Runner by GettingRekt 2026-04-20T07:54:15Z
The use of physics in this game is really cool. I love the fact that when you hook an astronaut or a box and it starts to sway that your ship becomes impacted by the force of the object as well.
The signal loss and noise affecting ship control was also a great touch. And the atmosphere is really cool and spacey. This was a really good entry!
Dr. Cool Whale Against The Electronicles by Yorsh 2026-04-20T08:04:06Z
Its genius. Having the signal frequencies change visually and having the enemies _be_ electronics that operate at bigger or smaller frequencies is just genius.
On top of that, the art is insanely polished. I'm genuinely amazed. There is even an upgrade system!
My only constructive criticism would be that the bottom part of the map shouldn't have walls on it (or shadows), as you can get obstructed by the camera down there and the enemies will hit you without you being able to see them.
Really great entry, props to you, you should be super proud!
Licence to Fine by IndigoWolf 2026-04-20T23:15:19Z
First off - this is a really cool concept, I've played a few other wave matching games but none also have a city that you drive around as part of the gameplay. Its impressive how much you got done.
I will say - and god I hope I'm not making a fool of myself here lol - I'm pretty sure the Phase of a wave isn't supposed to affect the scroll speed. The phase of a wave is like an offset, that describes where the wave is in its cycle, but changing an offset shouldn't be affecting scroll speed in theory, only the starting location of the wave, which confused me a bit and made it difficult to match things sometimes.
I also felt the matching could have been slightlyyy more lenient to the end-user. I found myself getting a tad frustrated when I thought I was "close enough" but had to tinker past what I felt was neccesary.
I'm still mad impressed by all the different things you have going on in the game, including little text boxes and SFX and everything. Great work overall!
Canopy by jordantanner 2026-04-26T09:38:39Z
I love these kinds of games. Really awesome environment and atmosphere you have going on here.
For the most part the game plays smoothly too, there is some kind of weird hiccuping going on for me with the end of grappling (and in general grappling feels a bit odd)
The levels themselves have this mysterious atmosphere to them which is very enjoyable to be in. The level-design aspect of the levels could use a bit of work though, but I think you did such a great job at creating a place thats fun to be in (using textures, art, SFX, fx, etc.) that its not that big of a deal imo.
Great job!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T06:27:57Z
@sinemual Thanks so much! Yeah, I couldn't get a good jump noise through my synthesizer and I was getting frustrated and decided to smack a few things while recording and it sounded not too bad lol.
The backtracking is kind of annoying, the map is a bit big. I wanted to add objective markers to more things but didn't have enough time.
Thank you for the Steam comment as well :grin:
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T06:28:22Z
@mdotedot Haha, no worries, shooters aren't for everyone. Thanks for giving it a play regardless!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T06:30:31Z
@tolviere Thanks for the detailed feedback of both the good and bad. I appreciate the time you took to write it all out.
I actually added a sensitivity slider after your comment (but I noted it was post-release in a changelog). Thats a great point, I have super high sensitivity lol.
And yeah another great point about running around, I wanted to add some POI/Objective markers to the stone areas to inform players that is where things happen but didn't have enough time...
Thanks again!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T08:46:20Z
@oadt thanks for playing! I wish I had time to make a checkpoint system too...I ended up spending too much time on random things like texturing, the terrain shader, and the soundtrack, and didn't have enough time for all the gameplay systems i wanted to finish (this seems to be a normal occurance for me in every Ludum Dare lol)
Also good eye, FOV is on the lower end at around 65 I think. I wanted to add a slider for that as well but alas...
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T21:13:26Z
@glem-fumeno the good news - I wanted to create a kind of mysterious atmosphere that gives people those thoughts
The bad news - I didn't at all think through any of the answers to those questions lol
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T22:14:41Z
@mr-flower Thank you a bunch! Putting the Monolith in the distance like that gave you the feeling I was aiming for, which makes me very happy. I was inspired by the feeling of playing Halo for the first time, where you look up and see the monster of a ring in the sky that you feel like is watching you or something :laughing:
Yeah for sure, there is a lot of little issues here and there. The combat in general could use some work...I didnt get it to a great spot due to the time rush.
Thanks again!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T22:19:23Z
@bonedaddy I totally agree about combat, its rough around the edges. Well really its just rough lol.
The feeling you're getting from the Monolith in the distance is awesome though, that was one of the things i wanted to invoke in people is this massive structure kind of calling to you and driving you forward. Cool that it got through!
And @julienlussiez I was absolutely inspired by Halo lol, the huge structure was an homage to playing the original Halo for the first time and looking up and seeing the ring.
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-20T22:21:01Z
@skale @termight thanks guys, i appreciate the time you took to play and leave feedback.
@metalgear yeah, the backtracking is a bit of a problem lol you're not the first person to have to do that - I wanted to have a better POI/Objective system but it didnt happen haha. Thanks also for leaving the feedback and playing!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-21T09:19:51Z
@rafa-fiedo thank you very much! Lol, the only reason it works is because I have an extra wide monitor too, so I'm used to canvas scaling issues :laughing:
Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, i wanted to add objective indicators to the battle zones but didnt have time...it was probably the one thats up over the hill, not the best place to put it lol. Thanks!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-21T18:26:23Z
@vladcfg thanks for your detailed review and feedback! I do have a decent amount of experience, but I don't come from a modeling background (programmer) but ive been working hard at modeling and texturing over the last few years so its awesome to hear that!
I really wanted to have an intro scene of the ship crashing onto the planet, and a final scene of some friends at home noticing the signal or something. But i definitely wasted some time redoing the music and SFX multiple times, and slept in a bit too much the first day lol.
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-21T18:31:28Z
@udfblr im glad you liked the list of objectives! That was one of the last things i got in. I spent probably too long on the character controller, at least compared to what else i would have liked to add.
@tanjou I love synthwave too! I've been making synthwave music on and off for like 8 years now
@frowsyfrog lol, the spikes are _not_ communicated well. I left a heart by the first spikes in an attempt to just show the player "these things damage you" since they didn't telegraph that well at all :laughing:
@dywanix thank you! its my (6th?) compo and ive done countless games jams, and have worked in the industry for a decade now. I still never feel satisfied though, theres so much more i could have done and i think the Signal theming could have been played upon a bit more...
@avhatar lol yes destroy those geological lifeforms! I would have loved to have another gun or a grenade or just an upgrade for your current gun, but ran out of time :(
thanks all -
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-22T02:13:47Z
@jesus-gonzalez haha that would have been an awesome little Easter egg - I’ll keep that in mind for next jam!
Thanks for the feedback 😁
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-22T02:14:51Z
@haln thanks a bunch for playing and leaving feedback! Out of curiosity, what part of the player didn’t control well for you? Movement, jumping, sprinting, all the above? 😂
Appreciate the feedback and thanks for playing!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-22T02:16:48Z
@kit-gorn thanks a bunch mate - awesome you can feel the Halo inspiration. It’s part of what drove me to use the Monolith to guide you forward 😃
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-22T11:03:10Z
@richjbaron I know this is like, a sin in todays world, but I haven't played Elden Ring yet :sweat_smile: I did look it up though and I totally see why you are getting a resemblance with that.
Its cool you caught on trying to separate out combat / exploring. Unfortunately there wasn't a ton to explore, I would have loved to expand on a bit of a story more but i ran out of time...I feel its lacking a lot in that department and solely relying on speculation.
Your ideas are also great - if my current Steam game fails, I guess I know what to work on next lol :wink:
Thanks dude!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-04-25T10:20:51Z
@graebor thank you! I'm glad, it took me like way too long to make that reload anim lol. @paroxysmal sorry, I didn't get that setting in :sob:
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-05-03T00:08:27Z
@dzejpi thank you very much! I have been making music on and off for almost 15 years now so that helps a bit...
Lol, I actually think that ended up being a mistake, as i know its cool to see the model, but I was going to potentially do a 3rd person game first. I could have done a lot more if I hadn't spent those couple hours at the beginning doing the model...thanks for the ambition compliment though lol!
You're right about the enemies, and same with the gun and pop-in. Lots of stuff that could be better, I think my time management wasn't the best this time around...
Thanks for playing and leaving great feedback!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-05-03T07:49:26Z
@pkenney thanks for the detailed feedback, I pretty much agree with everything you said lol, the combat is pretty shallow. I spent too much time in areas that were sort of unnecessary, as I do almost every time LD comes around... :laughing:
Maybe one day I'll nail the time management aspect of the Compo. Probably not though.
Cheers!
Monolith by William Corrin 2026-05-05T12:26:02Z
@richard-baltrusch haha, thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it!
You're one of the only people to comment on the heart next to the spikes. I'm glad someone noticed it :laughing: Fall damage is not a thing, but mostly because I didn't have time to add it, I would have liked to get it in. I could have managed my time much better this LD.
Thanks for playing!
TURN SIGNALS by Sthor726 2026-04-20T07:42:34Z
I don't want to re-beat a dead horse, but I agree that the gameplay is just a tad shallow and the turn signals are hard to pick up on. The concept itself is great though! Other types of obstacles or cars, or events and stuff I think would really help a lot.
The graphics are really nice, and the soundtrack is killer. Reminds me of old Sega games.
Still an amazing job for such a short time!
Avalanche by JulienLussiez 2026-04-20T08:34:39Z
ss_b.png
I _KNEW_ someone was gonna be up here, lol!
The concept is really neat, and you executed it well. The atmosphere, graphics, and sound effects really go good together as well. An extra juice would be some flowing snow particles in the wind!
I do think one thing is that it gets a bit repetitive after a while. I'm not sure what else you could add gameplay-wise, but it does feel like its missing a bit on the progression front.
Really great job overall on this.
Hidden Signals by soundgnome 2026-04-20T06:18:57Z
This is such an awesome concept, the second level took me a bit to isolate all the signals as I found myself moving back and forth between the different shapes trying to figure out which one was the problem.
I will say - this game in particular was in pretty desperate need of a SFX slider - I know the dissonance is part of the game but it was super rough on my ears that I had to turn down my computer volume by about 50% haha.
Numbus Crossing by Mavvy 2026-04-25T01:31:23Z
This is such a cute game. I really love almost all aspects of it, the game has a surprising level of polish with animations on text, background sprites, good music and SFX, its really a great entry.
The one thing is the gameplay controls are a bit awkward, I feel like the pointing kind of works in the opposite way i would expect, or maybe there needs to be some more visual indicators on what arrows are allowing which streets to cross and which ones are blocked.
Great stuff ovearll!
Awaiting Response by DzejPi 2026-04-28T22:24:49Z
This is a really cool entry. I was slightly confused after pressing the first button on where to go, but I figured it out haha.
The audio is well done, the backrooms-esk vibes are an easy win for mood, and the graphics are simplistic but i think they work really well.
I will say, every time I died, I really had no idea why I died or even where the monster was or anything like that. Plus, that one room does kind of turn into computer-restart-simulator. The button was a unique interaction, and i think having like, max 5 computers to turn off would have been plenty, but I want to say there was probably...14? haha...gameplay is a tad shallow in that regard, but these kinds of games rarely have intricate gameplay, so for what its worth it fits the genre just fine.
Super impressive to get all this done in 48 hours...nice work!
FINDER-1 by richjbaron 2026-04-21T19:00:38Z
The concept is just awesome, no other way to put it. I see in the comments you are a musician first and foremost and that makes sense because the atmosphere that the music provides is second to none. The simple vector graphics and black/white color palette also work incredibly well together.
The gameplay idea is really cool, don't get me wrong, but you have to get used to it. I think the concept-side of the gameplay is almost a 100/100, and is very unique - but the execution is more like 3/4 of the way there.
Without clear directions its difficult to understand what you're actually doing at first and what narrowing the width of the beam does. I eventually (think?) I figured out that it makes it so that you can survey the geometry at a more fine-tune resolution. And, although the odd distortion of geometry when moving looks cool, it kind of throws you off in a gameplay sense and makes it difficult to get an initial idea of where something could be - some kind of sound distortion, or maybe a slight change in pitch to the music that's noticeable to the ears when getting within 45deg of the target could have helped with this.
The fact you have a compelling story in here as well is just the icing on the cake. Hopefully you don't take my comments the wrong way, I tend to leave serious feedback and you've made such an awesome game which is part of why it got me thinking about ways to improve it so much.
Seriously an awesome entry. I loved being in your world, it gave me that rare feeling in a LD game that I was actually immersed in what i was playing. Super awesome stuff!
FINDER-1 by richjbaron 2026-04-21T19:46:29Z
@richjbaron Lol, wait, what? Are you sure? Thats crazy if true... :laughing:
The thing is, theres always stuff to change in these 48 hour Compos, but the fact of the matter is you created something really unique and in-theme, with a killer OST and atmosphere and I could totally see this winning.
FINDER-1 by richjbaron 2026-04-21T20:02:27Z
@richjbaron dude, email me at my work email: william@bytebackstudios.com
I gotta know if you actually know me lol but don't Doxx me here :laughing:
Sky signal by Kit Gorn 2026-04-22T10:57:54Z
Its a very ambitious game!
Cons: - The background music was a bit repetitive - Gameplay is kind of repetitive. Some kid of upgrade for Sky like a shooter that lets you blast stuff open would be killer - Shadows/lighting are too harsh - Flashlight is too soft - Terrain fidelity is too low (character got stuck a lot)
Pros: - The story actually made me care for the little robots. Poor Jade :( lol - The title screen having an intro animation was really cool. - The graphics meshed well together - The controls have no glaring issues or bugs - Having a return to checkpoint button was very smart in a game like this where you can get stuck and lose progress - SFX on the engine motor is good
Overall you did a great job!
Signal Blast: Alien Shooter by udfblr 2026-04-21T10:30:31Z
The graphics are really appealing and it drew me in to want to play. The canvas scaling looks like its broken (at least for my 2560x1440 monitor):
ss_d.png
The jump was a bit too high, sensitivity too low (for me) and the shooting was kind of awkward. But it was a very cute little entry!
Salvager by J4cko16 2026-04-25T10:29:55Z
Its really cute. Very replayable, and super polished for the time frame.
The audio all around is great. You added dynamic music I see, which is awesome. I love that the tracks fade in and out as you complete a level and rise back up
The graphics are also really charming, and the game works flawlessly with no bugs (as far as I encountered)
The gameplay is a bit shallow (no pun intended) but the shop helps with that. My only main issue is that I do think that the fish clambering onto the lantern and disrupting motion, although a cool idea in theory, is executed not the best - I found a coin off to the sides with 5 fish on my lantern, and i just sat there holding the right arrow key for literally 30 seconds as my character slowly moved to the right at like 0.001mph lol.
Its an awesome entry overall, great work!
Signal Hunter by Ilari 2026-04-28T22:15:18Z
The gameplay is really good. The control schema is a bit odd to me, I would have preferreda full-directional 360 controller with mouse and click to shoot, but maybe thats just me!
Others have said, no audio is a bit of a bummer, but thats mostly because everything else feels...really good. I have a few minor nitpicks here and there, like lack of taking damage detection on the player (it kind of feels like you just die suddenly) and the muzzle flash on the gun is a bit much (for me at least) but yeah its really great all around.
Plus its made in cpp, so you get bonus points for that :stuck_out_tongue:
Pandemic Purifier by Zazzar 2026-05-08T20:16:47Z
I love the variety of AI behaviors you ended up getting in such a short amount of time.
I will echo what others have said, that the signal thing is a clever idea, but choosing color as the visual indicator for slimes and weapon types matched behind a hidden signal value was really confusing for the most part and didn't hit the mark I think in terms of gameplay and causing confusion. Some sound would have been nice, and also I managed to (purposefully) lag your game a bit by firing a crap ton of bullets without leaving levels haha, so a pooling system of some kind could have prevented that.
Anyways, the entry itself is really solid though! Lots of levels and content, and the graphics are cutesy enough to do the job i think :)
And I think I'm rating #20 so I'm glad you're going to get ratings, well deserved, this is a nice and complete game with real effort put into it. You should be proud!
Tipsy Tower by Timo5034 2026-04-20T07:06:44Z
As far as the game goes - its barebones (as you already said) and its definitely more of a tech demo to show off your physics engine - but, which by the ways, is incredibly cool!
RETURN//NULL by ShadyShade 2026-04-20T07:34:52Z
The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. How did you make the black hole? It looks seriously stunning.
Unfortunately, I get kind of sick with roll-based rotation so i had to stop after not very long of playing. But the presentation and graphics are just fantastic, well done!
Post Modem by No_Luca 2026-04-21T00:08:59Z
Tried to play on PC 2560x1440 and i think your canvas scaling is broken. Could only see the very bottom of a button in the top left corner
Signal King by Tetramollaxx 2026-04-20T07:29:55Z
Graphics are really nice, and the implementation of progression and unlocking new towers upon dying is impressive in such a short time!
It does get repetitive for me kind of fast. But so do most entries in this genre!
WORK FASTER by Vladcfg 2026-04-21T00:49:06Z
I really like the idea of the game, and having the voice say its going to crush you gives me this really odd callback to a video game on the N64 called DK 64, where there are these rooms that will say "GET OUT" that freaked me out as a kid. So thanks for that. LOL!
I ran into a couple issues, i was holding a box when i think the mission ended and it killed the box from my hands making it impossible for me to look around anymore. Also, the F key was a really awkward key choice i think for rotating and stuff. It got some getting used to. Would have preferred Mouse buttons!
The fact your VPN/other logos had a QR code on it leading to your itch website was hilarious.
Connect the Universe by alstegodev 2026-04-20T08:18:59Z
The graphics are really cute! And the concept for the game is definitely interesting. I think the execution could have been better, as just moving the mouse around (and having to be insanely fast at that) isn't really the most engaging gameplay.
Good job!
Cardboard Delivery Service by skale 2026-04-20T06:14:10Z
Its such a cute concept, I love the cardboard theming thats so ubiquitous and I can tell you had fun recording some of the sound effects. The camera controls really well for such a short time, as does the car.
I'm a bit bummed you felt the need to use AI just for the cover photo/logo. You did so much by yourself! I would have loved to see what you made for the soundtrack as well. You seem like you have a knack for sound design.
Deep Fall by qmdev 2026-04-28T21:57:33Z
I have mixed feelings about this entry - the concept is really cool, and parts of the execution are neat as well. Whatever shader you made to outline the peripheral geometry works well, but I think it needs to stay lit up for just a little while longer.
The pinging being automatic I'm torn about, on one hand, it contributes to the overall atmosphere of the game nicely and creates some tension - but on the gameplay side, its a bit frustrating more than anything to have to wait and not have control over what you're surveying.
And just to echo @winbion's comment - I had no idea I was even moving for the first while either. A more polished fix could be adding UI buttons to show you're moving, or having something other than just solid dark as the background - but even a super simple fix such as making sure you spawn near geometry to see the ping move could also have worked.
Hope I'm not too harsh. I really enjoyed the concept and I think you were pretty close to hitting a mind-blowing entry, but its missing a few things here and there. Great job for your first jam!
Green Screen by beareye 2026-04-28T22:06:18Z
I get it, but its really not hitting for me.
I think if you're going to make the player physically look down at buttons every single time they do anything, just to look back up at a screen to see where the cursor went, you either need to be in VR (still not fun tbh), or need to be doing something _really_ compelling alongside it, like a Stanley's Parable-esk story or something...which is probably beyond the scope of the Jam, let alone the Compo.
I found myself just being frustrated and audibly saying "really?" after starting the node minigame and still being locked to the keyboard, lol.
Your cover art, page, and even audio and graphics in-game are very intriguing, one of the more curious entries I've played so far, so it was a bit of a let down to be met with this kind of gameplay. Its just not for me.
I can still appreciate what you've tried to make though, and others may like it. I'd love to see you create something very different next LD!
Defend The Radar by Allexeee 2026-04-21T19:15:01Z
My favorite thing about this game is that its fun - I think during Compo (me included) people tend to focus on the theming too much and forget that a game is supposed to be fun, which yours is! It even has powerups which is great.
A few issues I had with the game:
- The camera is so zoomed in at the beginning just to zoom out to the preferred angle after seeing the first big guy (i think thats what triggers it). I would prefer to just always have it zoomed out like that - The UI being way off to the side, and no current health on your tower, and no enemy defeated count - The player ship collision is awkward, i would have loved to get to ram into other ships, and although its not a huge problem since youre firing so fast that your bullets usually kill them, i did have a few weird instances where i was sitting on top of an enemy ship and just colliding with it and nothing was happening :laughing:
The ship shooting SFX was also not annoying which is really important for a game where you're shooting stuff 10x a second lol. Nice job overall!
Signal Strength by NikiProT 2026-04-23T23:32:45Z
The concept of the game is cool, and the graphics are quite appealing. i love the 2D Billboarded grass you have going on
The towers look great too. The sound effect once you light a tower is also great. The SFX of walking around is kind of a lot though, same with the high pitched bird noises
The character controls well at times, and pretty poor at other times - the animation for falling and bouncing is really slow, and its incredibly slippery. Also as others have said, the unlocking of the mouse button is quite tedious and kind of detracts from the experience.
The world you made is pleasing to be in though which is a huge accomplishment!
Its a clever idea. And the soundtrack goes surprisingly hard!
I have two small issues with the execution: the buttons eventually describe the opposite way that the player is facing, so when the player is headed towards the screen downwards, the buttons then actually flip him the opposite direction from what they show on the image since the character is flipped around.
Also, some of the levels have you just guess at the end to use your last flip before you even know where the ladder is going to end up. Maybe a marking on the floor of some kind to show you "lead the character this way" so that you don't have to reset at the very end if you dont hit that ladder that you couldn't see.
Cool concept!
While You Were Here by jpat 2026-04-26T09:30:16Z
It is really cute. I'm very impressed by the quality of the art, sound, and animations - along with the cohesive look of the levels and backgrounds. It meshes together super well!
The puzzle gameplay is fine, I like what you were going for but I think its just a little too slow...it gets tedious having to wait for the golem for so long, and the player doesn't particularly control well and feels too slow.
That being said, the whistling effects (and differing ones at that) are great, and the audio for gameplay-related events is also spot-on. Nice job all around its very impressive!
Last thing though - I noticed when going to your itch page that you don't have your source code linked. You need to upload your source code and link it here to your submission. Its part of the community aspect of the game jam for Compo games :smiley:
i love you, too by tolviere 2026-04-20T07:00:06Z
Got it! ss_a.png
As an enjoyer of audio engineering this was a really awesome concept. My only piece of constructive criticism would probably just be that it feels like its lacking a bit of content - the person speaking to you after syncing the wave was really cool, I would definitely have liked to explore a bit more of that!
Just wanted to let you know, on your itch.io page you have
"Entry for Ludum Dare 60 - "Signal""
But its Ludum Dare 59 :) I even see in your game you have the boat that says LD 59 lol.
Aside from that, the sound effects are absolutely hilarious and easily my favorite part. The first time I got a low signal and heard the "mmhmm" and then a 2 bar signal up to a 3 I laughed.
Inside a Sun by bonedaddy 2026-04-20T22:51:23Z
Took me a bit to figure it out, but once I did I had a lot of fun! I'm super interested in whatever technique you used to construct the mesh of the sun. Marching cubes? I'm very impressed by that system, nice work.
Some kind of ambient soundtrack would have been killer to listen to while exploring the odd Sun-Mesh though, and a few of the SFX I would have liked to be more pleasing to the ears.
Programming/design/theme wise I think you nailed the mark though its such a fun concept! Great job.
