LD45 — Start with nothing

L.D. Noire by karlipoppins 2019-10-10T14:54:26Z

Great music and a really polished gameplay, well done. The art direction is very nice too, although a bit too colorful to call it noir, perhaps? The pixel art is very nice but it got in the way a bit, especially in the inventory where I had some trouble recognizing the items I picked up. It also didn't occur to me at first that I could combine objects in the inventory and I had to look at the solution posted here. Some puzzles required the good old click-on-everything-and-hope-for-the-best method, but I consider this a tribute to the classics like Gobliiins and Indiana Jones games :)

The Legend of Sky Stones by Iluvatar 2019-10-10T10:43:31Z

A wonderful little game, well done! It brought fond memories of playing Gobliiins and Indiana Jones as a kid. The dialogues are well written (although I think I spotted one or two typos), and the puzzles are well designed; just hard enough to be a challenge without your trying to click on everything and hope for the best.

I liked the graphics and the sound design too, especially all the little ambient sound effects building the ambiance, like the sounds of birds chirping in the first scene. The only thing I'd improve is the font in the instructions and the book. I understand that the low-res pixel art dictates a certain style, but sometimes I had trouble reading the text. The font in dialogues is easier to read, on the other hand.

The idea of writing a chronicle fits nicely with the theme. I'd play a longer version of this game, I now want to know what those giants are and who had carved the stones!

Ship It by dxk2294 2019-10-09T08:10:26Z

OMG, those were very stressful 7 minutes. Great work! :) Sometimes it was hard for me to put things into boxes, but otherwise the gameplay and controls were smooth. Great concept and execution. Well done!

Nothing Left by Solah 2019-10-08T20:53:51Z

Good opening which sets the story nicely. I wish I was able to finish the game, but I didn't manage to beat the level with plenty of dashes and falling tiles. It might have to do with the fact that movement is controlled with WASD and my left hand isn't used to this much platforming :) The difficulty increased a bit too suddenly after a few introductory levels.

Necrofenser Hero by Guilb 2019-10-08T14:21:28Z

Great idea with building your army from nothing, I think it fits nicely with the theme. Nice graphics, especially the lighting. I liked the design of the characters, too. I'd prefer moving my character with the mouse rather than with WASD.

Mission interrupted by EndSSGamesStudio 2019-10-11T11:17:34Z

What an amazing horror game. It had me sitting on the edge of my seat! I second @trifectuh's feedback, however: I wasn't able to go past the door :(

Stickymoji by Lord Ean 2019-10-08T14:45:13Z

Haha, I love it! I played until the end and I really liked the pacing and how each level introduced something new. The controls are tight and feel great.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Escape The Unstoppable Gooey Blob by OddballDave 2022-04-10T08:23:59Z

Haha, I had som much fun with this, great stuff. The variety of weapons is impressive and each one plays so differently. You took me back to my Liero days. I think this may be my favorite game in the "survive as long as you can" sub-theme of the compo. I like it how at first it feels like I have control and can win, but after a short while, the boxes don't spawn anymore and I'm swinging my blade like there's no tomorrow, because well, there actually is no tomorrow and the end is nigh.

Numerus Maximus by SimplePotential 2022-04-07T20:47:14Z

I wonder if it would be possible to introduce constraints about columns and rows that the play could deduce from the visible tiles. E.g. what if the sum of all tiles in a row was some known number? Then, by flipping just a few tiles in the row and in the column, I might be able to predict where the 24 hides.

Gaia by kuro 2022-04-21T13:49:04Z

I played it to the end and enjoyed it. The graphics are cute, and the gameplay and the writing are engaging. I had a few minutes of fun with it :) Have you considered inflicting damage from many more sides than just NSWE, forcing the player to use all 10 fingers to heal Gaia? I imagine it could be pretty fun to have to press twisted "chords" on the keyboard.

Clear Skies with a Chance of Meteors by chriiis88 2022-04-07T19:47:23Z

A really interesting take on the "survive as long as you can" interpretation of the theme. I love the idea of controlling the flow of time, which lets me manage how long "as long as I can" actually is. I also appreciated it that the trade-offs between cards were meaningful and at the same there often wasn't a clearly better choice.

Inevitable by orukinawa 2022-04-06T21:24:52Z

"Delay the inevitable" in its purest possible form. Well done and well scoped, given how little time you had to work on this.

International Shipping Simulator by Likirus 2022-04-04T09:21:52Z

I'm after a few play-throughs and I enjoyed each of them. The game manages to capture the feeling of strategic reflection; laying out the network of connections given the limited resources, and then extending it, is fun. It would be cool if ships had containers in colors matching the load they carry. Also, a hint about where a ship is headed to (once a connection exists) would help plan improvements to the network.

DashFight by antonsem 2022-04-04T18:31:40Z

I'm not very good with fighting games, but I enjoyed this one. It's a complete package: there's even a tutorial screen! I like the subtle camera movement when the game ends, the animations feel great, the screen pulsates when someone gets hit. I wasn't able to get far, however. I tried to time my punches and wait for my exclamation mark to appear to break out of a huddle, but I was getting stuck.

Goblin Escape by PinballJunior 2022-04-06T15:50:53Z

I love city-building games and this game is right up my alley. I really enjoyed playing it. It's cute-looking, very polished and well thought-out, and offers quite a lot of options, especially given that it was built in 48 hours. It's impressive!

I had the same issue as @sjpixels -- but I realized that a right click would make the transparent popup go away.

Snowmageddon by PurpledArtFrog 2022-04-06T14:00:30Z

I love the graphics, they take me back to the Windows 95 era for some reason. I also appreciate the extra effort of including a short tutorial! That said, I wasn't quite sure how corruption worked as a mechanic; does anything bad happen to the corrupted snowmen eventually? I was also only able to play the WebGL version and I'm not sure if it was representative of the native build. I experienced a similar bug to the one @weirdybeardyman described: lots of blood everywhere right after starting a new round.

Outside the Town of Malbork by kemp 2022-04-05T21:34:35Z

Amazing experience. The story sent chills down my spine a few times. Really unexpected at times, I loved it. The depth of the content contrasts with the simplicity of the form in the best possible way. I reached the end screen when it said that I had discovered 14 out of 13 stories; not sure if that was intended or a bug?

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-04T08:09:41Z

@william-corrin Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'm so happy that you had a little moment of fun with this game. I just pushed a small update which addresses some of your feedback, thanks for taking the time to share it!

In particular, I remember from early playtesting that it was quite easy to avoid the hands. Thanks to your comment I realized that after adding the furniture, the shadows of the hands no longer provided a useful hint to the player about which area to avoid. I didn't notice it because I got used to the rhythm of spawning and I got quite good at it. I tweaked the angle of the sun to cast shadows more vertically, so that it can better serve its original purpose. Hopefully it helps!

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-04T10:10:24Z

@tellyhead @genpaku @wavertron Thanks for playing! I'm sorry about the lack of audio. I'm not very good at composing music or creating sound effects, and I ran out of time to try. (Actually, I did record myself grumping, snoring, and making other drowsy noises, but without proper music it would have been a weirdly intimate experience to make everyone listen to these sounds...)

@wavertron Great suggestion about the screenshake! I had it on my todo list but way towards the bottom and it didn't make the deadline :)

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-04T10:14:55Z

@dennis-magnusson Ah, I wish I had thought about the boost! Or maybe a dash forward? That would indeed help avoid the hands. Right now, jumping only brings you closer to the hand above you...

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-04T10:40:30Z

Hey everyone, I had previously opted out of the Audio category but I think I misunderstood the purpose of opt-outs. I've now re-opted in and I'm ready to accept the consequences. No point in *delaying the inevitable* :)

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-05T07:43:52Z

@gameplicit @adroitconceptions I pushed a small fix to the bug which you noticed. Thanks for letting me know about it!

@adroitconceptions I appreciate the comment about the theme flip. Indeed, I spent most of Saturday thinking how to break away from the "survive as long as possible" interpretation. I'm glad that you liked it!

@cinnamon18 You can press the down arrow to tilt the camera up a bit temporarily, it helps sometimes. Most of the time I try to use the hands' shadows as a hint, however. That and I turn a lot :)

You Are The Snooze Button by stasm 2022-04-07T21:01:49Z

@puree-adventure Thank you for playing! I'm happy to know that you enjoyed the game. Developing my own engine is a form of "bricolage" for me, but to be fair, I'm pretty sure my life would sometimes be easier if I just used an established game engine :) I hope that you enjoy your coding adventures!

@ramil-dev Thanks, I was hoping that the balance of timing, speed, size and room layout would provide just enough challenge to be satisfying. I'm glad you liked it! Re. making it longer: Initially 5 notes were needed to wake the human up, but I took advice from a blog post about how most people spend only a few moments with each game during such jams (which is totally fair tbh), and reduced it to 3 notes.

Gladiwaitor by Lone_Wolf 2022-04-10T08:00:02Z

An original take on the theme and a fun story that breaks the fourth wall. I played this in the browser and I wish the game captured the mouse cursor. It was also a bit difficult at times to know which direction my little square guy was looking; the arms help a bit, but I still got confused a few times about which way is forward and which is backward. The combat was difficult in a challenging and satisfying way, with good pacing and interesting enemy AI. Good job!

Catch the corrupt by Gonzo13 2022-04-07T21:10:47Z

Neat puzzle game, well done. The art and level design are great. I like the challenge of having to plan the optimal path and also remember which shredders I've already used as well as which doors lead to where. Also absolutely in love with the timer being indicated by the clocks hanging on the walls; I really like it when decorative items serve a purpose in games.

Tree loves Sun by AppoxGames 2022-04-04T09:51:06Z

What an original idea! I wish there was a bit more gameplay here, but it's still cool to nurture the tree and see it slowly grow. The growing of segments and branches is well done, although I wish the shapes were more organic. I wasn't quite sure why branches turned red. I think this game has a potential to become a chill zen-like experience, perhaps even without the part where the user has to balance the night and day, and collect the flowers.

Summer Vacation by roryh 2022-04-04T15:08:38Z

Oh cool, a survival game! An unforgiving one, too! Perhaps even a bit too unforgiving? I wasn't able to even once collect enough wood and stone to build a shelter without dying of thirst first. I'm going to give another try in case I missed something. Overall I had fun playing and there are many details in this game which I find adorable, for example: * Waves washing the shores of the islands. * Rain that puts out the fire. * Health, temperature, thirst and hunger icons instead of numerical stats.

Keep It Up! by iDunnyX 2022-04-21T14:07:07Z

Great little concept and really well executed, too. I've not been the biggest fan of the "survive as long as you can" interpretation of the theme, but the idea here fits so well and it feels so relevant and personal... I'm impressed! Not only did I absolutely do this with balloons when I was a kid, but you also made me remember a tiny win9x-era desktop widget that made me click a ball to juggle it for hours.

Chess? by dreamscale 2022-04-06T18:11:52Z

What an interesting and original idea, well done. I reached level 17. I enjoyed predicting the interactions between my own pieces a few moves into the future; it felt as if I was designing a choreography for them. The models and sfx work very well here, and the gameplay is smooth and the understandable. It was interesting to see a few novel chess pieces like the Witch and the Wizard; I wouldn't mind a "classic" mode with the standard pieces, however — it could make it a bit easier to remember how the pieces move.

Debt Train (card construction game) by Christian Zommerfelds 2022-04-04T10:18:50Z

Very cool. The whole card-game experience is very smooth. The UI works great here. I wish I could preview the expected range of the stations before I lay the tracks so that I can plan the paths better. It also seemed like I was drawing a lot of stations and not enough track cards, but perhaps I was just out of luck.

Waiter Tray by Ramil Dev 2022-04-05T22:08:37Z

Nice work! An interesting variation on the "as long as you can" interpretation of the theme -- making the game about balance is relatable and realistic. Having a time constraint forces suboptimal moves which then require corrective action, which I thought was a fun way to introduce chaos to the game. I wish I could tilt the camera up and down a bit too. It's cool that I can check highscores recorded by other players! (I contributed mine, 78, too).

Study Breaks 📚 by Puree Adventure 2022-04-05T21:03:49Z

Fantastic game, I loved every minute of it. Beautiful and cheerful. The art and the music are on point. It's a complete package and that's very impressive for a compo game! At first I didn't understand if I needed to do anything on the screen between minigames, but otherwise I wouldn't change anything. It's a great little gem, well done!

Tomorrow's Problem by Dorren 2022-04-09T21:27:42Z

What a great little gem! The art direction and sound fit the game very well. I love how simple and original the idea is, and how well it fits the theme. The message is a powerful one, too, and I really hope that in real life our efforts to take care of the environment do more than just delay the inevitable... Also, I agree with @rolly: the "start game" view being a simple tutorial-like level is great design.

Glide by FloatingVertex 2022-04-09T14:27:44Z

What a relaxing and serene game. Gliding fits the theme very well. The visuals are great and the controls are smooth; I really like it that only a mouse is required to play. I don't know how gliders turn in reali life but I found myself wishing the glider in the game rolled to the sides a bit when turning. Also, the glider appears to have solar panels on its wings -- does staying directly in the sunlight help maintain my speed?

The fact that I can see the ghosts of other players is interesting visually and impressive technically, but what I really like the most about it is that it plays an important role design-wise: when my glider is out of speed and getting lower and lower, I can use another player's ghost on the ground to gain boost and relaunch myself up into the sky to continue my run. It almost felt as if all the previous players were trying to help me fly for as long as possible.

I managed to get myself high enough to glide over the caldera and see what was beyond the horizon. I found Unity :)

Hydropy by lantto 2022-04-06T21:16:37Z

An interesting concept. I like the graphics which make me think of a custom-made tileset from Drawf Fortress. The zoom effect is well done, and so is the expanding range of my clicks. In fact, I wonder if you could do away with clicking altogether. I ended up holding the mouse button all the time and I just kept waving the cursor in the middle of the screen.

LD59 — Signal

Satellite Days by lectvs 2026-04-24T08:08:41Z

I'm going to be honest -- I did not expect such depth from this game judging by the screenshot. Lesson learned and I'm so happy I gave it a try and played to the end! It's one of the most polished entries I've played and one that I've rated the highest so far. Mad respect for fitting so much variety into this in just 48 hours. Scene transitions look great, the audio fits the gameplay well, and I really liked how the difficulty progression was more than just "things move faster" sort of thing. I did not expect a boss fight either, and in particular I love how you incorporated the upgrade UI into the gameplay itself. So many good ideas! The game kept giving the longer I played. It's the kind of games I'm here for. Loved it!

Licence to Fine by IndigoWolf 2026-04-20T20:08:52Z

This looks impressive for a compo game, nicely done. The 3d models look great and in particular, I love it that the mirrors render the street behind me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to match the waveforms of the telly rebels. I'd always wanted to try driving a right-hand drive car, but I hope it's a bit easier than driving as implemented here :)

Adventures in Xenolinguistics! by kristinamay 2026-04-20T19:45:21Z

Did you... invent a whole alien language for the purpose of a jam game? Amazing. I wish this was a whole game, I would have loved to decipher this language clue by clue. Also, I have a thing for win95 UIs in games, so yeah, well done.

!> The large Lassilan and the small Lassilan were my first clues.

Eat. Poop. Love. by stasm 2026-04-21T19:13:29Z

Thanks for playing, everyone!

@henk I really thought no-one would ever find that easter-egg. I'm impressed that you found it so quickly! It wasn't meant as a complete second game, just a tiny prototype I developed on Saturday morning when brainstorming ideas with my wife. Thank you for being gentle and for your thoughtful comments :) To anyone interested in how to play it:

!> Wait 25 seconds on the win or lose screen; the "tap to play again" becomes "tap to play something else" which links to a Gameboyesque flappy bird clone.

Signal Desk by fnelix 2026-04-21T21:39:06Z

What a polished gem of a game. The mood is perfect and it reminded me of an old dogfight simulator with a very similar looking main menu screen. The gameplay isn't too hard, but it's engaging and I like how it creates opportunities for story-telling. I could see a whole narrative play out via radio messages, especially given how we're supposed to trust certain actors but not others. I played to the end just to see if Lynx was actually the good guys. Were they trying to warn me about Orion and prevent civilian casualties? I'm not sure if it was intended, but the instruction on the sticky note from day 4 onwards were all the same and very simple to follow. I liked how at some point you introduced more conditions, like the wavelength, but then it seemed like you dropped this idea.

New London 3D Turbo 2000 by Revetoon 2026-05-02T13:04:31Z

I had lots of fun with this one, great job! I like how you were able to come up with multiple different weird and funny rules in a way that felt both fresh and fair. My favorite were the fragile signs appearing randomly out of nowhere. I loved the police cars spawning above me, just pure mayhem and very fun. Played it to the end and had a blast. It's a very "complete" game, which is impressive for a jam game.

HeliRescue by darkshadow 2026-04-20T19:53:36Z

I really like it that you made audio the centerpiece of this little game. Too often, sound is relegated to just decoration, or a mood-builder at best. I applaud the effort to make it part of the narrative. The movement and the winch action felt good. It took me a few playthroughs to notice that there's limited fuel! Perhaps a visual gauge would make it clearer.

V.P.N. by torte478 2026-04-20T19:15:45Z

Great little game. Initially I thought it would be more of a puzzle, but I ended up clicking the connection lines and towers like crazy. In fact, I had more success completely removing connections and then rebuilding them than disabling and enabling the towers. I just enjoyed making the aliens look for something else to munch on. I also like how this is balanced and timed to be a 3-4-minute-long game.

CRASHDAR by Roroto Sic 2026-04-24T20:11:09Z

Nice work, I love it that you shipped an actual Gameboy ROM and wrapped it in a WASM emulator on the web. The gameplay is rather simple; I wish there were more puzzles and challenges like the minefield. Right now the game feels like just the first chapter of something larger. I dig the way map coordinates animate with the player's movement.

Outpost by henk 2026-04-24T18:00:32Z

I was drawn to this game due to the interesting premise (who doesn't like stories about stranded astronauts confined in claustrophobic space stations!) and due to its visual style. I really enjoyed the low-fi 3d look and feel, including the beautiful starfields outside the portholes and the zero-g movement.

I checked messages, performed scientific research, exercised, and slept, and I have to be honest: I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I didn't understand at first that out of the three actions (research, exercise, sleep) I can only fit two within a single day and that I had to chose between them. It also didn't occur to me that exercising or sleep would be required as preparation for the rescue mission. Instead, I was looking for ways to activate the oxygen tanks, and I was hoping that with enough research I'd manage to fill up the power meter somehow.

The very idea of using my own escape pod to rescue the other astronaut didn't feel right at first either, especially given that I kept dying every time I tried. I thought it was the game's way to hint that I should not use the pod at all and look for other things to do instead.

Finally, I gave up and checked the game's source code to understand what the goal was and then to figure out which combination of actions triggered the good ending. (The secret ending is rather creepy, well played.) One way that I think you could remedy this is to give better feedback about the preparedness to indicate that exercise and sleep are important for the mission.

Farwatch by Liquid 2026-04-21T21:15:53Z

Amazing work and a nearly complete RTS game with lots of the genre's staple features: harvesting resources and constructing buildings, queuing production, command hotkeys, scrolling, group selection, control groups, right click to issue the default order.. Visually, the pixel art is readable and very pretty, with a lot of detail on building sprites despite the low resolution. I spent a good amount of time playing this game, and it's so easy to forget it's a Compo game! I don't know how you decided to do an RTS in a weekend, but I'm sure glad you did :)
