LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Kritter Keeper by Archimagus 2017-12-12T15:01:09Z

really nice and cute game, very relaxing at the beginning and appropriately difficult later. There could have been a "smartcast" option ( e.g. just hover the mouse over the kritter and press q instead of pressing q and then having to click ), which would have made things a little easier I feel.

My life as a cat lady by Samuli 2017-12-06T09:23:43Z

got up to 90 cats, playing it for the first time, the sounds are really funny, especially when there are A LOT of cats, it might get annoying at some point though^^

Traffic Troubles by TheOZoneBE 2017-12-07T11:14:07Z

a really nice idea, I got up to 1913 score. It starts to lag a little bit when there are a lot of cars on the streets and I agree it's not entirely obvious which roads get the most traffic, I mostly judged it by the number of cars I would see using the road, I didn't really see them turning red. And a minor thing, draw the roads ontop of the buildings, the semi transparent red buildings drawn over the road make it look a little bit red, so I kept thinking that those might be the areas that are congested, but they weren't

America 2018 by Antti Tiihonen 2017-12-06T09:07:08Z

I really like the low poly abstract artstyle and the music fits nicely as well. The only slight immersion breaker: (maybe webgl only?) the "invisible" mouse gets stuck at the edges of the screen, preventing me from turning further, which is a little bit problematic if there is a monster coming from that direction ^^

Witches' Brew by Likirus 2017-12-06T09:32:30Z

Thanks for the nice feedback :)

@nate-wec , @azuredraco : yes, the gases accumulate a lot quicker once the temperature of the cauldron gets out of the green temperature range ( the thermometer turns red when it is out of the range ), I should have made that a little more obvious I guess

Witches' Brew by Likirus 2017-12-06T13:05:24Z

@magmafortress : keep an eye on the cauldron temperature and drag logs onto the fire if it gets too low. I added a controls section above to hopefully keep it clearer how the cauldron temperature and the gas accumulation behave

@samuli : my engine isn't completely consistent when resizing, so I chose to focus on the rest of the game, instead of making sure everything scales correctly, but I realize it's hard to read on 4k, something to work on for next ld ;)

Snail: Diamond Hunter 2000 by ruba 2017-12-07T09:43:31Z

As a custom engine user myself, I'm always a fan of other custom engine games :) The game is nice, the graphics, the sounds and the general physics felt coherent But I agree, that the reversed controls were a little counter-intuitive, especially when a ghost was close and I didn't have time to think about it

Greedy Merchants by jlreymendez 2017-12-06T17:49:06Z

overall nice game, I haven't really figured out how to win yet though, I may just be bad ^^ At first I sometimes got stuck on the islands, but after a while I got more used to it and didnt crash that often And maybe the respawning could have happened at the same point where you died, so you didnt have to search the screen for your ship again ( or the above mentioned highlight either all the time or only when respawning at a different location )

Tax Evasion Hero by ebim 2017-12-06T21:26:21Z

nice idea, took me a minute to figure out I had to find items to destroy the valuable stuff instead of interacting with the valuables themselves, but especially smashing the golden statue with the katana was a lot of fun ^^ And to be honest it felt a little bit like an unreal engine showcase, maybe a little bit more focus on the gameplay instead of graphics would have been nice

LD45 — Start with nothing

Stealth.Run() by ping78 2019-10-14T13:45:01Z

this is literally starting with northing, not even a working game :D I love the idea of installing and upgrading a bunch of components before you can start to play - just like real linux. I struggled a bit with the stealth game part though, I'm probably not patient enough.

Survival of the Fattest by loveapplegames 2019-10-14T22:08:23Z

pretty fun game :) I beat the sumo diet and the balloon burst, but the car was a little too hard to control for me. The graphics of the replay and back to menu buttons don't really match the style of the rest of the game though, everything is mostly pixelart, but the buttons are very high res and modern.

Start with Nothing, End with Nothing. by Ongomato 2019-10-23T10:43:25Z

I love how you took the theme literally, its extremely difficult though, I think the random generation wasn't the best choice, I refreshed the page a few times to see how the generation would change and sometimes even the first level was very tough, maybe a few hand curated levels with an increasing difficulty would have been better

Mongol Space Program by mortus 2019-10-24T20:30:02Z

probably my favorite art style, music and ambience so far, but I have literally no idea what to do, I managed to build a yurt, but I cannot figure out how to launch a rocket :(

Leaf blower by Papaver 2019-10-25T19:12:50Z

such a great game, nice art style, good music and just hard enough to be challenging, but still beatable in a reasonable amount of time :)

De-Desertification by Likirus 2019-10-14T16:18:27Z

@sprotex hmm, which version of windows you are using? 32 or 64 bit? did you try installing the C++ runtimes in the redist folder ( them missing would normally result in a different error message, but maybe installing them helps )?

De-Desertification by Likirus 2019-10-14T21:29:50Z

@sprotex great that it works now :) It is in the readme.txt, but I should probably add it to the description on here too. No, there is no end game condition, but that's a great idea, maybe a progress bar and once 80% of the desert is green the player has won. Thanks a lot for the feedback :)

De-Desertification by Likirus 2019-10-26T09:45:28Z

@madbarron not really, but try making this sound: :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_JIUS9PPxw&t=19

`https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_JIUS9PPxw&t=19` embedding doesn't seem to work ...

thanks for all the feedback

Catsaway by A.Bond 2019-10-24T15:59:28Z

very nice visual style, but that death sound ... please dont ^^, the slight chuckle at the end of the death sound was nice though ^^

LD45 : We Started With Nothing by Captain Nakou 2019-10-14T21:52:10Z

very nice game with a nice mood and music :) As a personal preference I would have liked the camera to be movable via mouse too, maybe with the right mouse button, and maybe the limit on the time acceleration could have a little bit higher, sometimes waiting for resources took a little bit too long.

KOLENdor by MaxKlimenok 2019-10-23T10:10:40Z

very nice game, fitting mood and well polished, and I love civilization so you had me with the hex design ;) Is the combat completely random or is there any strategy to it?

Goblin Keeper by Darkmax14 2019-10-25T12:15:51Z

really nice ambience and visuals :) a resizeable window would have been great though, or at least the ability to zoom out further for better overview.

I Am Hobo by Japayne 2019-10-15T12:26:44Z

nice little game :) I dont quite get why the hobo is getting smarter just from staying in the luxury house though, maybe you could have had a university or something for end game knowledge icrease.

The Unknown Nude by romes 2019-10-14T14:30:38Z

relaxing music, but the gameplay is a bit repetative, at some point the merchant gave me the option to attack him, but it didn't really do anything?

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep it Olive by Nicso 2020-04-22T14:46:41Z

This is great! Made it to the end. It took me a bit to get used to the physics, but I found the trick was to press the jump button very quickly instead of waiting for the top of the arc like you would normally do in a double jump.

Birloon by sky_fighter 2020-04-24T12:47:57Z

I like the game, quite difficult, but fun :) is there something up there if you get to a very high level?

Turto! Virtual Pet by deathray 2020-04-24T12:38:10Z

Really nice game, made it to age 256 before I had to try to death ray ;) I was able to basically spam every type of item on the floor though, maybe you could have added a cost or a cooldown so the player would need to think a bit when to use which item or action.

Pig For Slaughter by PotatoAndTaco 2020-04-22T20:39:48Z

can the pig actually die? Maybe you could have added an HP bar that goes down and you have to feed to pig quickly enough to restore some of its health to keep it alive

Up Hero Down Enemies by regisclaus 2020-04-25T20:08:36Z

Overall a great game, nice graphics and music and the little voice over lines were pretty good. It's quite easy though, I think the HP of the hero should not be fully healed every turn, that would make it more difficult and require a bit more strategy, in the current form I gave up on debuffing the enemy at some point and put all my points into attack and that worked out very well

Squirrel Saver by Likirus 2020-04-21T19:21:59Z

thanks for the feedback! @brenno263 it is, when restarting the level the squirrels HP gets reset to what is was when the level was first started @dane-ziggler you probably took too long on the first level and the squirrels HP got too low, other people also had that issue, I'll have to think about how to communicate better that the squirrels HP is persistent over the levels

Squirrel Saver by Likirus 2020-04-27T20:36:50Z

thanks for the feedback everyone!

@icch-howw broken in what way? I'm curious, I don't have a high refresh monitor so I cannot try it myself, I am using delta time for all of my code, so refresh rate shouldn't affect anything, but maybe there is something I can change to make it work on high refresh monitors

Squirrel Saver by Likirus 2020-04-27T20:43:55Z

@douwe-ravers oh, you're right, I had fixed it for the restart game function, but forgot the restart level function, thank you

Squirrel Saver by Likirus 2020-05-08T08:08:04Z

@mudlee did you have the squirrel with you? you need to carry the squirrel through all the levels and to the vet, but now that you mention it, I probably should have added a popup that tells the player to get the squirrel if he gets to the end without it.

Squirrel Saver by Likirus 2020-05-10T08:20:02Z

@mudlee O.o how? I literally have no idea how that could happen, it can't really be a general image loading problem, because there are a few images, but for some reason not all... which browser do you use? can you do me a favor and press CTRL + SHIFT + i and see whether it shows any errors?

Bibou by PostMeridianGames 2020-04-22T14:23:01Z

nice little game, maybe a bit easy, maybe you could have incorporated random events, like I don't know, a bird flying by, drinking the water, forcing the user to refill or a friendly giant panda coming by increasing the fun stat

Keep it Fire by Mykola 2020-04-27T20:04:57Z

Really great game, lovely music and visuals, still listening to the music in another tab while rating, the only very minor flaw is that the flame can stick to the walls sometimes

My Friend Phil by Conroy 2020-04-25T19:11:33Z

Really nice game! I like the art style and sound effects, it's quite difficult, but that might just be me being bad at fast paced games. It's actually quite similar to my game where you have to save a squirrel and can also pick it up and put it back down like the fish, although you can't really throw it that far.

Duck Tails by guladam 2020-04-25T11:24:34Z

Overall great game, beautiful art and animations, amazing sounds and music, and I love ducks, I wish I could have freed all of them :)

Cactus Marathon by wormius 2020-04-24T11:28:22Z

Nice game, but that screen shake in the boss wave is way too intense and made me dizzy

PollUFO by OddSocks 2020-04-24T15:56:38Z

Really nice game! Made it to the end. The sound effects are just great and blowing up pollutors is always nice :)

Keep the Flame Alive by InsanityCode 2020-04-27T19:28:28Z

Really nice game, I am always a fan of people using their own engines, the game looks and sounds great, I am terrible at hitting the notes, but player skill isn't a category, so you're good ;)

Is anybody out there? by sansman01 2020-04-27T19:39:06Z

Such an eerie atmosphere and really fitting aesthetics and sounds, I couldn't stay alive for very long though

Manifest Destiny by SaltFactory Studio 2020-04-27T16:14:11Z

This would have been really amazing with a 3rd person camera, aim with the mouse, shoot with click and WASD to move relative to the direction you are looking. Still a very solid game though, especially the graphics.

Heart of the World Tree by Arttu Halonen 2020-04-24T15:46:54Z

Really interesting idea of creating a spherical breakout, the paddle was quite difficult to aim accurately with the arrow keys, especially once there were multiple fireballs, maybe a mouse controlled paddle with a higher speed would have made it a bit easier to stay alive

Build with Haste by Fryer 2020-04-24T11:21:34Z

Really nice game, I like the mechanic of creating your own path on the fly, rotating with the mouse wheel didn't work for me though

Spoon by Cadstor 2020-04-25T19:42:09Z

Simple but nice, chrome should replace its offline game with this ;) A few of the stones render in quite late while they are already in view of the camera.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Bob in Wonderland by smbe19 2020-10-08T18:57:58Z

Really fitting for the theme, I like how the past versions of the player stick around. Although I agree the controls were a little bit wonky sometimes, maybe you could have use a picking up mechanic instead of pushing, e.g. press "e" to pick up a crystal.

Color Coded by Random-storykeeper 2020-10-26T11:43:34Z

Overall nice game, but the automatic weapon type switching felt a bit arbitrary, when shooting at an enemy it often came down to luck whether the weapon happened to be on the right attunement for the enemy. Having control over the weapon switching might have been better, but maybe not quite as fitting for the theme

ShroomRoom by Likirus 2020-10-06T09:49:25Z

Thanks for the nice feedback so far!

@josh-roby but the other sound effects worked? I don't have a Mac, so I cannot test Safari myself, does the developer console show any errors?

ShroomRoom by Likirus 2020-10-13T12:00:14Z

@evgeniya-zapolnova glad you enjoyed the game, the bird strikes down and eats a random tile. He only appears seldomly, because too many tiles would be destroyed otherwise.

Rocket Factory by Matthew Roelle 2020-10-08T19:10:37Z

Really nice and fun game! Although the main menu says LD48, when the next theme is "robots" or something like that you can just submit the game again ;) :D

UFO taxi! by island-jam-2-group-3 2020-10-26T12:14:39Z

Very nice little game, I love the interactive tutorial, made it very easy to understand what to do, although because I knew immediately what to do, I finished the game a little bit too quick, a few more levels would have been nice.

Harvest Minute by Malai 2020-10-26T11:56:24Z

this puts me in the mood to play Stardew Valley ;)

Spooky Mansion by philipprapp95 2020-10-26T12:09:19Z

This is very nice, I love the haunted house look, I wish it had some spooky sounds though

Killing Count Time by NiKaDra 2020-10-26T15:14:58Z

This really gives off an Enter the Gungeon vibe. The game looks and sounds very nice. Unfortunately, I'm bad and always got hit by the homing shots so I didn't get very far into the castle.

Stuck in a FOR Loop by Thiago Nascimento 2020-10-08T19:36:33Z

This is amazing, one of the best tutorials ever, but how do you get the last bug off the stall? I tried forever, because I really wanted to complete the game, but I couldn't figure out how to get the last bug.

Stuck in a FOR Loop by Thiago Nascimento 2020-10-08T20:02:39Z

@thiago-nascimento aaahhhhh, of course, I'm stupid ^.^ Thanks! I even went back and played the game again, because I wanted to complete it, so here we go ;)

ld_tmp.png

Waves Industrial by Wolfier 2020-10-26T14:47:53Z

So why did Factorio need like 4 years to release their game when you can do half of the mechanics in 3 days? ^^ ;)

The Loopy Wheel by Anshul K 2020-10-08T19:41:01Z

When I was 11, I didn't even have a PC ^.^ This is amazing for such a young age, keep going!

A-Cornered by Chris Fagan 2020-10-26T12:42:26Z

Very nice and beautiful game, and I love squirrels, so you had me there ;)

Train Trouble in Cog Valley by Bea 2020-10-26T14:55:18Z

Pretty fun game, nice visuals and audio, a little short though, I would have liked to get to 30+ wagons and absolute insanity ^^

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-26T15:25:44Z

I agree with some of the above comments that it isn't obvious what to do. I actually had to look at the comments to get an idea of what to do, but even then I didn't get far into the game. If some floor areas have to be avoided at all cost, why not add a lava texture to them and then you literally have "the floor is lava" and most players will know to avoid the floor.

Monster Trapped by Terabyte 2020-10-26T12:37:23Z

The sounds are amazing ^^ game play is a little bit short though, also clicking the mouse in game doesn't seem to do anything bad, so why does the tutorial tell me to not click it? I'm like a child, telling me not to click it, just makes me want to click it even more, in the style of the game there could have been a popup with a "no, no no!" sound effect or something like that ;)

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Tourist Trap by Junber 2021-05-01T15:09:06Z

Really nice game. I managed to beat the game and it was a lot of fun. I like the almost Minecraft-like pressure plate redstone connection mechanic :) although I found the best damage dealing strategy was to manually right click a bow that I had lined up in a long corridor with a lot of spikes and crocodiles^^ Besides the blood effect that was slightly laggy, even the Web version was perfectly fine for me. And the background music conveys a nice mysterious pyramid ambience as well. Great entry!

Shoot Them Deeper by pndaa 2021-05-01T15:37:10Z

I'm getting a strong Tron vibe ;) Really nice and polished game. The task is quite difficult because you have to try to shoot and dodge while at the same time paying attention to the tasks and counting, but I'm bad at multitasking to begin with ;) Great entry!

Soil Surfer by bentglasstube 2021-05-04T12:09:09Z

Very nice game! Reminds me of my very first Ludum Dare game, which was also an Earthworm snake-like game ^^ The controls had me confused at first, because I expected more snike-like controls where you go up if you press up regardless of the orientation of your snake/worm. It would be problematic on a hex grid though, so I understand why you went with the point of view of the worm controls. After a while I got the hang of it and was mostly to able to control the worm ( at least until the centipedes scared me to death ;) ). Great entry!

Inks by mahalis 2021-05-01T15:54:06Z

Agar.io in pretty! Simple but beautiful game. The ink has a really nice and satisfying shader effect.

Deep Cover by Liam 2021-05-01T15:27:57Z

Really interesting game. It took me a bit to understand all of the mechanics, but then there is a surprising amount of depth to the game.

Minor flaw: I normally have my browser window not maximized and the second tutorial screen has so much text that the "Let's go" button wasn't visible for me, I thought the game was broken at first, but then I discovered the button when I maximized my browser.

Daive Dangerous by kpded 2021-05-04T14:05:33Z

Very nice game. Many different mechanics/systems and two different movement environments for the player with not only jump&run, but also the tethered diving. It could get quite overwhelming when a lot of different systems failed at once and the sub became heavy lobsided. The only minor flaw was that the aiming on the gun turret is off by 90 degrees, which made it really difficult to aim and kill the enemies in time.

Gold Mountains by Likirus 2021-04-26T11:15:37Z

@sinusquell Thanks! I just added a timelapse of the complete development process ;)

@bigbadbison @xpycm Thanks! Yeah, balancing is always tricky ( and the AI even cheats a little bit ^^ ), I might try to tweak some numbers for a post jam version.

Gold Mountains by Likirus 2021-04-26T18:39:56Z

@jefvel Thanks! I like the idea of limiting the number of upgrades and increasing the price. Upgrades were a late addition in the development, they could have been more polished. Maybe in a post jam version. I also noticed the game gets laggy when there are a lot of enemies. It's the first time I used Babylon.js in a game jam and maybe there are some better optimization strategies so it can handle more assets.

Gold Mountains by Likirus 2021-05-04T15:40:36Z

@kpded @leggy Thanks for the feedback. The AI follows a good strategy for the first few buildings, because I have hardcoded its first steps so it doesn't do utter nonsense at the start. After a while, I let randomness take over and then it becomes quite beatable. A good starting strategy is to start with 2 mines, then 2 mining camps, then another mine ( because at that point the AI always builds a turret so you have some time ), and then more spawners and mines depending on what the AI mostly spawns. You can also abuse the upgrades because they don't have any limits in the compo version.

7 DEEPS by ardorugus 2021-05-04T14:30:18Z

I somehow made it through, I don't know how and why, but I did. The art pieces and the mood were really nice, the gameplay was, well, "slightly" confusing. But it's always interesting to see some games that are a little bit more out there and do things differently.

Deeper In The Night by Lorwon 2021-04-28T14:37:30Z

As a fellow C++/OpenGL fan, I always love it when people are using their own engines. Great game, especially considering it's written with your own engine. I have to agree with some of the others though, the controls were a bit "non-standard", normal WASD and looking around with the mouse would have been easier to control. Other than that, really nice entry!

Under the Surface by Wolfrug 2021-05-10T14:22:47Z

Great game! Very well polished (except for the ending) and a nice atmosphere with the sounds effects and art. Even though I'm normally not that much into story driven games, I made it all the way through and got to the ending, really sad that it cut out, but still a great experience.

Esophagus' inCRYPTion by Baconeta 2021-04-28T10:42:00Z

Very lovely game with great audio and visuals. The controls took a while to get used to though. Because of the 45 degree rotation I never knew whether the up arrow would move me top right or top left and similar with the other directions. A straight view would have been less confusing. Nevertheless, a great entry!

Deep Exploration by aposs 2021-04-28T15:24:13Z

Nice and atmospheric game. A few instructions at the beginning would be nice though, but it was fairly easy to figure out what to do so that wasn't too big of a problem (I may have missed something though). I also auto-collected a few upgrades when I was clicking fast to dive down faster, maybe you could have done right click to dive and left click to confirm upgrades so you cannot autocollect them without having a choice.

Dreadnought Parlance & the Magic Pearl by DecrementedPalindrome 2021-04-28T14:25:47Z

Really fun game, I like that the upgrades were all meaningful and had a real impact, unlike upgrades that are like +1% damage and you can hardly tell you got one. I played long enough to buy every upgrade in the shop, but I wasn't able to find the pearl. I agree with @scoobyben1 though: The perspective change near the bottom had me really confused for a while.

Deep Sea Explorer by Harmadillo 2021-05-03T13:49:59Z

Nice game. Interesting concept and I'm always a big fan of card games. One possible idea would be adding some sort of cost for playing the cards. I was able to pretty much play every card in my hand every turn until I had 3 identify cards and got stuck. If they had a cost, the player would need to way the different options and only play the cards that help the most in their current situation: e.g. if the sub was quite broken, maybe prioritize a maintenance card over exploring. Also, maybe a redraw mechanic for a small price when you get stuck at 3 identify cards. Nevertheless, great entry!

Deep molatoes by leggy 2021-05-04T14:18:54Z

Such a nice game. The molatoes are so cute. Most of them perished quite quickly, but Jeff made it all the way to the diamond! It reminds me a little bit of the old Lemmings game.

As other mentioned, the beginning is indeed quite chaotic and I lost most of them quite quickly. It was easier to only focus on one and keep him alive. However, once I had him set up and secure-ish, I would have liked a respawn mechanic. Maybe click on their hut and for 200 potatoes you can hire a new miner or something like that. Nevertheless, a great and very cute entry! :)

Search for the Undergem by FluffyGameDev 2021-05-10T13:57:11Z

Amazing game. This reminds me of a very old flash game I used to play. I played it all the way through and found the diamond. Your game was a lot of fun and the nice ambient music and the art style conveyed an overall relaxing and peaceful mining adventure. Also, I liked the initial instructions in the game. I always prefer a good ingame tutorial over three pages of text on the website.

48 Leagues Under the Sea by Micia 2021-05-01T15:46:24Z

Great game, I especially love the underwater ambience, the nice coral graphics and the muffled underwater conveyed a really nice atmosphere. I wasn't a big fan of the complete blindness though. I often got mauled from the back and spinning the mouse around constantly didn't feel great. Maybe you could have had semi-darkness everywhere so it's possible to at least see some shapes and still the lightcone following the mouse, or similar to curse of darkness in Binding of Isaac a small light circle around the character so you can see if a shark is biting you in the back.

Memare by jogo 2021-04-28T15:11:59Z

Really nice and atmospheric game, especially the sound effects. Repelling the sharks was very nice as well. A bit on the shorter and easier side, but just having a few minutes of nice and calming underwater experience in a stressful world is a nice feature as well :)

LD49 — Unstable

Cryptomancer by ninjacreeper47 2021-10-08T11:30:11Z

Interesting concept. It's nice to see some more areas that can be unstable like the cryptocurrency market definitly is. However, just like the cryptomarket, I wasn't able to follow any real strategies in the game. I mostly randomly bought what looked nice^^ Some nice coin sound effects would have added to the game. But overall, a solid submission and who knows, maybe it'll go to the moon ;)

penguin.exe by Yngvarr 2021-10-08T13:55:02Z

Very well made. The penguins are extremely cute, well animated, and their sound effects are hilarious (I love penguins in general, so I might be biased). The game is an interesting take on the theme, it could almost be a representation of how my desktop goes from clean to unusable within a few weeks ^^ Overall amazing submission :)

Catastrophic Journey by Abregado 2021-10-08T08:33:31Z

My hundreds of hours of navigating on hex tile while playing civilization finally paid off! Great submission with nice low poly art and music. There doesn't seem to be a victory message when you get to the rocket and it lifts off though?

Volatile Waters by Likirus 2021-10-04T10:15:12Z

@zarkonnen I was contemplating until the end whether I wanted to add a win condition at all. I ended up implementing one, but it would have been more realistic to keep adding more pollution sources and create a runaway effect.

Volatile Waters by Likirus 2021-10-04T20:18:25Z

Thanks for your feedback.

@appoxgames I'm afraid the fish are doomed. But that's an interesting idea. Maybe a fish would change direction when you click on it, so it wouldn't end up in a net or on a hook.

@jharler Ya. I probably went a bit too heavy on the realistic side and not enough on the fun side.

Volatile Waters by Likirus 2021-10-07T14:22:21Z

Thanks for the feedback!

@python-b5 Yea, I also mostly focussed on only a few items when I was playing it myself. Balancing with very limited time is tough and making every item unique and creating a balance so that all of them are required just wasn't possible near the end of the event. Maybe I should have only created 6 items or so and spend more time on balancing them.

@r3dleg It might have been an actual bug, but I also noticed that the feedback when you cannot place an item because of limited money or bad environmental conditions wasn't great. I probably should have added an error sound effect in addition to the red error message, so it's more obvious that a placement has failed. And I also ran out of time to change the color of the selected item next to the mouse to red and green dynamically to indicate whether a placement at the current position is possible.

Volatile Waters by Likirus 2021-10-08T07:55:17Z

@jose-bonilla @plomeg @fabioecco Thanks for your comments. The game can be won if the pollution is low enough after 5 minutes. However, it's quite difficult by design (but it is possible to win). I very strongly considered not implementing a win condition at all and just letting the pollution exponentially increase until everybody loses. It would have been very realistic, because the world doesn't seem to be able to figure out its pollution problem either.

CVC Presents - Unstable: Carrying a box of snakes through a hospital by The Enigma 2021-10-07T10:36:37Z

I like the idea, but it's very difficult to control. The gravity seems slightly too low, even when taking normal steps the cake launches off the platform. I love the dog in the level though, maybe the player could have been carrying sausages and the dog would attack because it wants the sausages ;)

Scootin’ Cubes by David Hunter 2021-10-08T11:22:36Z

A bit on the shorter side, but still a solid submission. Maybe it's just the web version, but there don't seem to be any sound effects or music, which would have really added to the overall atmosphere.

War Horse by Snorkelhead 2021-10-08T08:44:47Z

Nice submission. I couldn't figure out how to escape after eating all of the apples either and wandered aimlessly around the pen until eventually dying. Because of the wording of collecting enough energy I kept thinking that I would be able to break through the fence when I had all of the apples, but I couldn't. Although smashing through the fence with lots of debris flying around would have been very fitting for the game. Nevertheless, a solid submission with nice animations and music.

Rocky Roost by Andreas Roschal 2021-10-07T11:36:29Z

Absolutely amazing game. A great fit for the theme, it looks lovely and the animations are very nice. Also, I love birds (and raccoons) :D

Capt'n Slippy by emrod 2021-10-08T08:26:37Z

Great submission and a very good fit for the theme, it was very difficult to walk precisely on the ship, but I imagine that's what it would be like on a slippery wooden deck in high seas. I beat them nasty pirates on the second attempt arr!

Snowbody's Mountain by WeAreDev 2021-10-07T10:45:15Z

Nice game with a lovely look and atmosphere. I was only able to move forward by playing volleyball with my head, but I'm neither skilled nor patient enough to get far into the game ^^ Nevertheless, a great fit for the theme!

Exploro by MalusKhan 2021-10-08T14:29:19Z

Nice game. Easy to understand concept and I love the inclusion of a short tutorial. The complete randomness of the orientation switches always caught me off guard though, maybe you could have added a short warning before the orientation changes, something like "solar storm detected, navigation may encounter problems".

绝地天通(Babel Blocks) by ELITTK 2021-10-07T10:59:08Z

Really interesting idea and game. I love the variety of the disasters and the physics are well implemented. But I agree with some of the other comments, that there could have been better instructions and feedback what's happening, it took me a bit to understand what I had to do. A howling wind sound effect would have been very fitting as well. But still a great submission and with a bit more polish, it could be a great mobile or simple PC game.

Unstable Lava by Weenie Walker Games 2021-10-08T08:09:13Z

Very nice atmosphere in the game, especially the music is very fitting, it gives it a bit of a mysterious vibe and the lava feels very psychadelic, although real lava moves a lot slower. The art style is a bit on the simpler side though. After a few attempts I made it through the first level, but other than trial and error there doesn't seem to be much of a strategy in navigating the maze. Maybe the treasure chests could have included map fragments as a more tangible reward because they would help the player navigate the maze a bit easier after more and more of them have been discovered. Overall, solid submission.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Cardboard People on Fire by BoxedMeatRevolution 2022-04-11T15:51:41Z

Great game. I love your dedication to the cardboard art style, I especially liked the cardboard seagulls. With the nice ambient music and great sound effects, the game has a really nice atmosphere. However, can you actually lose? I have been playing for a while and tried to save the cardboard humans in the beginning, but stopped after a while and let them burn, but as I am writing this the game is still running in the background and I still haven't lost. If there is a loss condition, maybe it should happen faster. (Maybe this is the case), but I feel like the game should end with more and more people on fire, too many to reasonably put out, and eventually the city itself catches fire and then the game ends.

Donchar by MatLab 2022-04-11T07:49:45Z

Really interesting and unique experience. I really like the colorful visual style. The movement was a little glitchy sometime though. I wish I could have yeeted the objects, i.e. grabbing an object, moving the mouse quickly, let go of the object and it keeps its momentum so they can be thrown all over the area ;)

Delay the dancing fire by squirrelsoft 2022-04-11T16:05:49Z

Nice game and very fitting for the theme. I couldn't quite figure out how the fire hydrant works, but the other items were very straightforward to use. I felt like I didn't play too badly, but the loss was indeed inevitable (or is there a win condition in the game?). The WebGL version feels a bit laggy, but that seems to be a general Unity problem.

International Shipping Simulator by Likirus 2022-04-13T07:30:29Z

Thanks for your feedback.

@island-jam-2-group-3 Nice catch, thanks. I forgot to disable the button in the onclick handler and only made it invisible.

@0x746564 Yea, some kind of port worker display is a good idea and maybe even some stats like how many containers have been processed, average delay, earned income etc. And I fixed the source code 404 error (maybe you need to CTRL+F5 this page, it might be cached in your browser). Thanks.

Flupye Ranch by JOZGames 2022-04-11T07:58:12Z

Really nice and cute game :) Reminds me a bit of slime rancher. The instruction screen at the start is very helpful. It makes it very clear what to do and what the controls are.

Annihilation by Schuster 2022-04-11T10:40:23Z

Why is it so damn satisfying to smite the puny humans?! Maybe it's the amazing squishing sound effects... ^^ I also love the contrast between the well-produced happy sounding music while literally commiting mass murder. At the same time, your take on the theme is extremely true when looking at the state of the world and when you think about it, it's a very grim outlook, which again contrasts the happy music very well. I only wish I could delay the inevitable in the game (and in the real world for that matter) a little bit longer to keep squishing more humans because it's so satisfying. One of my favorite games of the event so far. Great job!

Grandma's kiss by Gaming Night 2022-04-12T13:59:28Z

What did I just play lol? Top 10 in humor for sure, the voice-overs are amazing and the extra detail with the huge open mouth when they get to close is nice as well. The gameplay fits the theme and is easy to understand without any complicated tutorials, so overall a very nice entry.

Hold it! by island-jam-2-group-3 2022-04-12T07:41:10Z

Now I gotta go to the toilet ... :D Nice game, although a bit on the shorter side. You did an amazing job with the tutorial. It's always a plus when the tutorial is in the game and you don't have to read one page of instructions on the website. Your step by step instructions with images were very helpful and I immediately understood how to play the game.

Vine Dash by Taximan981 2022-04-11T10:27:16Z

Really fun to play. I like that you added the extra little cinematic at the beginning with the vines consuming the skyscrapers. It sets the scene quite nicely.

Pyre by Foursay 2022-04-11T15:36:32Z

What an absolutely amazing atmosphere and mood, especially the sound effects and music. Not very heavy on the gameplay side but it made more than up for it with the emotional storytelling! Great job!

A Halting Problem by Honey Pony 2022-04-12T08:12:48Z

Amazing game. Very well polished. Although creating a programming game in a competition full of programmers, who can reasonably be expected to like programming games, might be considered cheating :D The only minor complaint I had is what others have already mentioned that the code gets reset when you fail. Differentiating between left and right is A LOT more difficult than programming, and I may or may not have created the right code, but messed up left and right and had to redo everything instead of only changing the direction. ld_programming_game.png

Time Lab by Srynetix 2022-04-11T09:16:36Z

Unfortunately, I got stuck on level 3 and couldn't figure out how to press the button there. Even double-jump wasn't high enough. The movement of the character was a bit fast in general, but still on the edge of controllable when thinking about the inputs beforehand. Other than that, it's a very well made game, the art-style and audio are fitting for a pixel art platformer and your take on the theme is interesting.

Out Of Gas! by mortalfosca 2022-04-12T15:29:30Z

Really nice game. Lovely music and the top down artstyle looks great. I would have liked to see the vehicles actually turning instead of just translating left and right, but building a fully fleshed out driving physics model might be a much for a game jam, so I understand your choices. The other improvement could be making the traffic move at slightly different speeds, at one point I got stuck behind a row of cars, all of them were moving at exactly the same speed, so my only choices were waiting behind them or crashing.

March of the Mega-Machines by Arttu Halonen 2022-04-12T16:03:36Z

I always love a well-made tower defense game and yours definitely is. It works very well with the theme and the game is very polished. The only thing that confused me a bit were the constructions prices on the buttons. They didn't match the actual prices I had to pay to build the towers. I assume the prices increase as the game goes on and you build more towers, but if so, the building buttons should reflect that. Honestly, it speaks for your game when my only minor complaint is a bit of non-matching text ;) Overall very nice game!

Hero's Last Quest by Caym 2022-04-11T16:23:43Z

Really nice atmosphere. Great visuals and a relaxing ambient music create a nice excape from the stressful world to sit on the beautiful lake and fish a little bit. With the instructions on the website it wasn't too difficult and I caught a few fish. I like the minimal UI style while fishing, nothing to distract from the relaxing fishing atmosphere. I wasn't a big fan of the cutscenes (although I'm not a big fan of cutscenes in general so that's probably why^^), but they didn't really match the peaceful style of a fishing game.

Fair Dice Game by Dexter Liu 2022-04-11T08:07:30Z

I like your interpretation of the theme. Casinos are indeed a great example of only delaying the inevitable. I also like the roguelike direction of the game and the different upgrade paths with the shop. However, I have to agree with the previous commenter, I was very confused what to do. Also, I feel mouse controls could have been better because you are essentially only clicking buttons and that's faster and easier with a mouse and makes the navigation easier. But I like the idea and because it's an extra game I assume you are allowed to keep tweaking it.

Space Ninja by mhorth 2022-04-11T09:01:42Z

Very well polished and so much fun to play. A well-executed copy beats a poorly-made original idea in most cases. I should have increased my mouse dpi before playing though :D I had to move my mouse across half the mousepad every swipe^^

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-12T07:53:35Z

Great job, especially considering this is your first game jam. Creating a procedural generation algorithm in a game jam is always a big challenge, because there is a high chance that it creates very hard/impossible levels. Yours worked quite well for an algorithm that has been created in a few hours. I had a few situations where it was very difficult, e.g. only a single red block, which meant that I only had once chance (one opportuniy, to seize everything I ever wanted, oh wait :D) to make the jump. In my opinion the horizontal movement of the character could have been a bit higher though. The jump speed is like 10 times higher than the x-axis speed, which felt a bit inconsistent and made it sometimes difficult to reach the next platform when they were a significant x distance away. I agree with some of the previous comments, that a quick restart button would have been nice, waiting to drown in the goo wasn't great. Overall, solid entry!

Tominrigg Tactics by Dan Allison 2022-04-12T10:42:45Z

Really nice game! The pixel art is well made and the music is a banger. Turn based battles are a bit of a rarity in game jams so its nice to see a well executed example of one. My ambition was looking for a way to win the game, but the theme didn't really encourage winnable games. After rescuing some citizens I wondered what would happen when one of the heroes goes to an exit square and you thought of that as well. The heroes can flee the sinking ship and abandon their village :D

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

WeaponSwitcher by Rialgar 2022-10-08T18:40:52Z

Simple and good. Proof that you don't need a lot to create a very fun game. Plus, I am always a fan of non-engine games. The art style is very fitting with a clear design language and the animations are well done. I only wish it had a few sound effects when shooting and hitting.

Testers' wanted! by tinykidtoo 2022-10-11T11:08:54Z

Really nice game with a lot of atmosphere and great visuals. Unfortunately, I got stuck in the floor during my first attempt and I couldn't figure out how to get past the two floor switches room on my second one, but even up to that point it's very impressive for 48 hours. Also, the laser and time warping effects aren't great when you are sensible to flashing lights.

Nuclear Waste Disposal by Dining Philosopher 2022-10-11T11:18:21Z

Very interesting game that looks great, took me a while to understand how to play it though. The idea of the puzzle is quite cool though and requires a lot of speedy decision making to balance making enough space and burning the right colored trash.

Lights Out, Fright's Out! by TechnoNugget 2022-10-08T16:09:56Z

Very fun game and a new interesting spin on an old game concept. Not only do you need to worry about placing the boxes on the right squares but also leave enough space for yourself to escape the monsters during the night. The graphics look great but a few sound simple effects would have been nice to better convey the atmosphere.

Résumé by croze 2022-10-09T07:32:19Z

Luckily I don't work in human resources, I would have nightmares when looking at resumes :D Interesting and unique concept, the controls felt a bit slidy to me and I couldn't figure out how to get to the top most levels, but a solid entry nontheless.

Haunted Hollows by Likirus 2022-10-03T15:19:33Z

@thesnide yea, their HP increases every round. I wanted to start the first wave with one-hittable enemies, so I can understand why it's confusing that the second wave isn't one-hittable anymore. HP bars could have helped with that.

Arkentower by Rayne 2022-10-11T19:37:07Z

Really interesting concept and solid execution. Trying to keep some towers running while gems proved to be quite difficult though.

DODGE! CATCH! DESTROY! by Solah 2022-10-09T19:13:16Z

I struggle to make a single game in 48 hours and you made three :D The game is easy to understand, well polished, looks and feels great, and is fun to play. My only complaint would be that switching from catching where you are very close to the targets to the other game modes where they are deadly can be very dangerous when you don't realize the timer is about to run out and you are too close to one. Most of my runs ended that way.

Autumn Valley by ChuChuGeralt 2022-10-09T15:15:49Z

Yay, I got a pumpkin cake, no victory message though? Still a very nice and relaxing game with great music and graphics.

SENTRY_PROJECT_17 by eyedromeda 2022-10-09T18:59:03Z

Very nice game. Good graphics and well polished. I especially liked the detailed tutorial. Creating an interactive tutorial during a game jam is such an under appretiated feature. Maybe there could be a bit more variety in the opponents though.

Field O' Fiends by Baconeta 2022-10-09T11:21:29Z

Interestingly, a very similar game idea to mine, although yours is much more polished. The graphics are great and the audio is amazing. Sometimes it takes a while to find the last few enemies hiding in the corners though, especially when you have to wait for the next night to attack them. It might also be a bit on the long side for Ludum Dare, I have been playing for 15 minutes and I don't think I'm close to losing ( or winning? ). I had to pause to rate the game, but I might continue later on when I have more time because it's been quite fun, which is always a good thing.

It All Comes Crashing Down by Quinn_Patrick 2022-10-09T11:48:23Z

Quite a fun little game which brings you back to stacking bricks as a kid and many of my towers were equally as instable as those in the game :D I got to 25m. Although I would have liked a down function like in Tetris, so once I'm happy with the placement and rotation of the block I could instantly place it. That would have enabled much taller towers.

Planet survival by Last Angle 2022-10-08T18:54:31Z

Very fun game, played it for quite a while because it's a bit addicting :D Is it possible to win though? At some point my planet was massive and only a few tiny other planets were left, which meant every asteroid hit my planet and destroyed its shield while no other planets were hit to replenish my debris supply and I slowly ran out from buying planet shields.

Stalwart Planet Guard by rjmarzec 2022-10-08T15:52:00Z

Fun little game. I agree that it is a bit on the difficult side, but I'm sure it's possible to get better when playing more. For example, I noticed that you can click on another planet while mid-flight and do some crazy maneuvers. Also I'm a little sad that it's not possible to jump into empty space and lose that way, but I assume that would have made the game insanely difficult :D

Quick Charge by Soul Grinder 2022-10-09T19:06:19Z

Really nice and well polished game. It's quite difficult though, there isn't any room for errors, missing a single jump at the wrong time basically means you have to restart from the beginning of the level, which can be a bit frustrating.

Michael Finnegan Begins Again by madeofst 2022-10-08T18:31:58Z

Very nice game, one of my favorites so far. Creating a puzzle game that's challenging but doable is always a big challenge in such a short time. Nice graphics and lovely music too. Well done!

Snail Gale by moasip 2022-10-08T15:59:46Z

Very fun game and interesting interpretation of the theme. Quite difficult to espace the guards though, maybe they could ignore the player when in snail form.

Mages Arena by makar-ss 2022-10-09T15:37:42Z

Very nice game overall with nice graphics and a surprising amount of features and mechanics, although maybe a bit too slow paced for a game jam game. It takes quite a while to get going and get a few upgrades and it's fairly easy to die when you don't pay attention and you have to start over.

Escape the Island by john-wuller 2022-10-11T10:53:01Z

Very solid game. Great visuals and audio. It would have been a lot easier to control if when world was rotated by 45 degrees though, it was a bit confusing to have to press two direction keys to walk straight along the tiles. Maybe click to move instead of WASD would be another idea.

A 10 second Cooking Hell by DEJVOSS 2022-10-09T15:25:02Z

This takes fast food to a whole new level ;) Quite difficult to get the recipes done in time because the picking up food can be a bit unprecise sometimes, I only managed to create a few. Nonetheless, a solid entry.

Aberration by waterfowler 2022-10-10T20:36:36Z

Great game. I liked the atmosphere and you even managed to create a short story. I like shorter games like yours for Ludum Dare that can actually be beaten in 10 minutes or so. I feel much more accomplished when I beat a shorter game than when I have to abandon a longer game or am not able to beat it. The graphics are nice and the game is quite polished. You basically made two games in 48 hours when counting the hacking mini game as well, very impressive.

Anti-Apophis Wristwatch by Trouv 2022-10-09T11:36:11Z

I love the idea and the game is very well made and looks and sounds great. Unfortunately, I'm struggling a lot of the controls. Normally, I'm a WASD person, but pressing WASD and XY (it's Y instead of Z for a German keyboard layout) below WASD is impossible with the timing required for some of the momentum based jumps. It worked a bit better when I switched to the arrow keys, but still wasn't great. I would have liked something like K and L for the time controls, so it could be one hand for WASD and Jump and the other to control the clock.

Pendulum by NUGameStudioClub 2022-10-11T19:28:28Z

Amazing to see an escape room game in Ludum Dare. Sadly, I wasn't able to solve it :(

LD52 — Harvest

Untitled Shooty Game 2: The Harvesting by hungryroy 2023-01-13T15:22:42Z

Dang there are so many bullets. I only got to like 2 upgrades at most and never managed to get to the point were the game felt easy like some of the other commenters are saying. Nevertheless, a very nice and well rounded game.

Anne & the Carrot Islands by bobo_oh 2023-01-13T15:44:31Z

Really nice and well polished puzzle game. Had a lot fun playing and managed to beat the whole game :) A minor improvement could be an undo button, I sometimes was a bit too fast and overshot a tile that I didn't mean to and had to redo the whole level.

Life in Libya by mmKALLL 2023-01-11T17:10:35Z

Really interesting concept, there seems to be a lot of depth in your game and trying to min-max the best strategy could be fun. I agree that a bit more visual feedback would have been great, it gets a bit repetitive looking at only the small numbers. Quick question though, would I actually need to survive for 365 days to win? That seems a bit insane, especially when you yourself only made it to 99. Maybe counting time by weeks would have been a better option, maybe with slightly altered numbers for the different tasks, so you would only need to get to 52.

Cute Baby Animal Organ Harvesting Simulator by TheOtherSamP 2023-01-14T11:42:05Z

While I STRONGLY disagree with the premise of the game, it's quite well made with the sound effects and the happy music creating an interesting contrast to the evil things you are doing. Not necessarily my type of humor, but humorous non the less. A little bit more gameplay and some way to win the game would have been great though.

Oh, and there is so much blood, my poor little laptop started lagging ... ^.^

Scythe of Souls by xaviarrob123 2023-01-09T20:07:20Z

Nice little game :) Some sort of feedback (visual or audible) when a ghost is hit would be nice, it's not always clear whether a hit actually connected or not. Oh, and there is a gap in the trees ;) I was kinda tempted to keep going and look for secrets :D Screenshot_20230109_210606.png

Corpse Circle by Jonathan Lorenz 2023-01-14T12:35:29Z

Very nice game, the angry looking harvester looks menacing at first, but once you realize that you can hide in the scarecrows, he is actually pretty nice and clears most of the way for you ;)

Seeds Must Grow! by Neon Glass 2023-01-12T11:03:01Z

I really like this game. The mechanics are interesting and it's a good take on the theme. It took me a second to figure out what do and I kept losing, but after a while I got the hang of it and won the first 6 levels. However, the dragging and dropping is a bit unintuative. It cancels the dragging as soon as you move over an unmovable tile, which was probably my main source of confusion in the beginning. I would have prefered that it only evaluates the drag when you let go of the mouse button, and if you are over an obstructed tile then it cancels, otherwise the start and end tiles are swapped.

Soil and Toil by squimmy 2023-01-14T11:30:45Z

Nice little game. Simple to understand, fun to play, and overall well polished - even including music and sound effect volume sliders. The web version works fine for me, I haven't noticed anything buggy, only the font is a bit blurry when in fullscreen.

V.O.L.E. by iCalm 2023-01-12T11:12:28Z

Interesting game. I admit, I'm not too familiar with text based games, but it's nice to see an example of it and it seems like something I could enjoy maybe in bed on my phone or something. I harvested 6 pieces of information, not sure whether that's good or not. Maybe there could have been better feedback what my action did. It sometimes just went back to the main action selection without any feedback and I wasn't sure whether I did something good or not. Another idea could be to have a "suspicion" bar that slowly fills as you and your actions get more and more suspicious and you lose once it fills up and cover your tracks and divert attention could lower it a bit if the action was successful.

Leafus by koboldskeep 2023-01-11T16:48:24Z

Really nice entry, especially for only 9 hours. I admit, it was mostly trial and error for me too. Visualizing all fields with all conditions in my head was bit too much, clicking and watching what happens was easier ;)

There Was A Day by T90. 2023-01-11T15:13:01Z

I never "played"? any of the anime type games of which there are so many on steam etc. I kinda thought there would be some decisions to make in the game? Like "X took the katana out of the box and showed it to Y. Give Katana to Y? "Yes" or "No". I guess maybe a visual novel is different from those types of games? Definitely interesting to experience and nice to see some variety in the Ludum Dare submissions.

Although I have to agree with some of the other commenters that I would have liked to have seen an opt out of the graphics category if you have used AI generators. At least you clearly mentioned it in the description, but I don't think it's fair to compete against human artists. I don't mind anyone using AI generators and you have certainly shown a great usecase for them, but in my opinion, it shouldn't be rated.

Oyster Odyssey by osh.studio 2023-01-13T10:51:26Z

Really nice and atmospheric game with the underwater sounds and parallaxed background. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the mega oyster. I was ~12 minutes into the game and for some reason my diver went down quite fast, but when I swam up again, he was basically crawling and I didn't make it up in time. Did you add a mechanic like real diving where you have to dive up slowly so the gases in your blood can equalize or was I maybe carrying too much weight/too many oysters?

Harvest Mouse by Surfa 2023-01-09T20:21:15Z

Really fun game and the boss fights were great. Managed to beat both of them and win the game :)

Happy Piggy Farm 2 by TomatoOmelet 2023-01-14T14:43:45Z

As a fellow pig game creator for this Ludum Dare, I approve! ;)

Very nice and funny game, I like the dialogues between the rounds of gameplay, it breaks things up a little bit.

Feeding Time at the Church of the Cosmic Void by Alex de la Cour 2023-01-14T11:57:42Z

Absolutely amazing game. Very nice graphics and extremely well polished. Impressive for 72 hours. Quite difficult to place everything in time and move yourself to the correct location too. It might have been a bit easier if the creature would always listen to orders, not just if the player is in front of it. Nevertheless, one of the best games so far.

Desert Harvest by math_daemon 2023-01-11T16:59:47Z

Always love to see some C++ games, especially when compiled to run in the browser (maybe I should look into emscripten myself, seems quite useful). I have to agree with some of the others that I didn't quite get why I'm needed. You did too good of a job building the AI for the drones, they seemed to be doing quite well without me. If anything, I picked them up, dropped them somewhere only so that they would immediately move somewhere else :D Maybe an option would have been to have some green fields in the lower area that slowly dry out and you (and your drones) have to keep them watered to prevent them from dying or something like that.

Plant, Harvest, Make money! by huozhedexiaoc 2023-01-11T13:18:16Z

Really nice game. The puzzle concept is great and the first levels are really fun and rewarding when you get to the correct solution. I'm always impressed when somebody can create great puzzles during a game jam. I probably would take longer than 48 hours to solve all of them, let alone creating so many levels that are actually possible to solve. Good job.

Egg Egg Chicken by JUMPirate 2023-01-12T11:40:24Z

Very nice game with easy to understand mechanics. It started quite relaxing but got hectic soon after. Maybe the items could have lasted a bit longer, so it would be possible to accumulate a few more before they time out. I never really got to a critical mass of items so that they were actually helpful and I still had to collect and kill most things myself. A few simple sound effects for collecting, killing, buying, and selling would have been great too, but still a very solid and fun game. Good job.

LD53 — Delivery

Cave Couriers by Wevel 2023-05-03T12:44:36Z

If an ASCII game and Unreal Engine 5 had a baby, this would probably be it ;) Love the art style, but the gameplay might be a bit repetitive. At first I thought I had to pick items on what seemed useful, like getting a sword, some armor, and food to gear up and prepare for some fights. It took me a bit to figure out that I only had to deliver the items.

Astroxite by MAT4DOR 2023-05-12T10:19:40Z

I agree with some of the other commenters, the UI is a bit confusing. I can see the potential in the game and it's the kind of game I would probably enjoy. Trying new technologies for Ludum Dare is always a challenge when you aren't 100% familiar with the tool yet. Sometimes trying something a little bit less ambitious and making it a bit more polish is better. But your game has a lot of potential, and you went all out by even getting the domain name for it, so I assume you are going to keep working on it?

Don't read all about it! by ThaProfesional 2023-05-03T12:29:56Z

Very interesting concept. You basically made my dog's dream scenario ;) I would have loved to see a few more levels, even some simple procedural increase like adding one additional mailman per level and see how far you can get before you are overwhelmed would have been nice.

Crystal Courier by Likirus 2023-05-01T10:24:13Z

@jclardy Thanks :) There is a small arrow, but maybe it should have been bigger.

Screenshot 2023-05-01 122244.png

Crystal Courier by Likirus 2023-05-03T14:13:21Z

@glove Thanks :) The range upgrade is indeed for increasing the crystal pickup distance. The stat is correctly named Pickup Range at the top left, but for some reason I only named it Range in the shop lol :D

@stellarr2 Thanks for the novel-length feedback :) The weird beeping you mentioned is probably the backwards driving indicator like trucks beep when they drive backwards. You probably only used "backwards" to slow down and the vehicle only was in backwards driving for a split second, triggering only a single beep. Ah, I was afraid there is some cheese strategy like not buying or only buying very few upgrades to win. Balancing is always the hardest challenge for me.

Crystal Courier by Likirus 2023-05-18T05:10:23Z

@m2tias thanks, glad you like the driving mechanics :) Looks like you found a bug, the crystal number resets when restarting, but I forgot to update the UI... when you collect some crystals in the second game and drop them off, the number is correct again.

Banana's Invasion by coatline 2023-05-10T08:48:26Z

Very fun game, easy to understand, and well polished. I kinda wish the game had some health potion that dropped, or a little bit of health regen at the beginning of every new round.

Beetle Dynasty by Hakro 2023-05-12T08:05:14Z

Very nice submission. Love the visuals. The only criticism is the length, a few more missions would have been amazing.

Delivery² by ThatMisterM 2023-05-10T16:11:50Z

Still a little bit rough, but with a bit more polishing I can see how this could be a lot of fun. Keep going!

Worm Eats Inc. by sillyman987 2023-05-10T16:06:37Z

Simple but effective. The game is very relaxing and the music fits very well. Even though it's relaxing, I wish the upgrade paths were a little bit quicker because it gets a bit repetitive/slow. Also, I feel like the deeper dirt/rock types should earn more money, i.e. normal dirt: 1 per, rock: 2 per, rich dirt: 3 per, etc. This would give the player a bigger incentive to dig deeper.

Order Up! by Fractal Flower Girl 2023-05-12T10:46:34Z

Very nice game. I love the hand-drawn artstyle. The only minor improvement could be changing the delivery to a drag and drop method too, to avoid hitting the wrong plate by accident, i.e. only check whether it's on the correct plate when the player lets go of the mouse button.

Chompus McSnapperson's Bubble Baby Bouncing Bonanza by Peter Ondus 2023-05-12T10:38:06Z

Very nice game, but dang, this is difficult. So many things to balance, keep baby alive, keep yourself alive, defeat monsters and storks all at once is a bit too much. At first, I thought the storks were supposed to get the baby and I handdelivered it to one lol :D who would have thought that crocodiles are better at delivering babies than storks ;)

Anvil Express by Zykra 2023-05-12T08:13:48Z

I like the concept (if I understood it correctly) of using the anvil as a stepping stone to reach the platforms and then pulling it back up. However, the physics were quite glitchy and it was very difficult to control the character. Also, jumping while running gave me almost infinite speed.

Next Day Delivery by OminusGalaxy44 2023-05-10T10:10:46Z

What did the delivery guy take? He's going crazy, I wish real-life delivery guys had this pace :D Overall solid entry, I like the song, it really fits the speedrunning theme. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the package recoil jump to work, but lucky for me(?) there seems to be a glitch where you can walk up walls/double jump on walls. However, the glitch only seems to work on right walls, and not on left walls so I got stuck on the next level. Not so lucky for me, I also somehow managed to glitch through the floor and fall forever. Nevertheless, a good and fast-paced platformer.

Dungeon messenger by Gastar 2023-05-10T10:19:56Z

Nice Isaac-inspired game. Although, I would have liked to be able to walk through the enemies (still taking damage of course), but I kept getting stuck on their hitboxes and couldn't escape anymore, so a single hit often was game over.

Delivery of Duty: Same Shift Different Package by Surfa 2023-05-10T07:48:39Z

Very nice game, love to see some voice acting in Ludum Dare games. Played through the whole game, but got an F rating, lol :D The precise handling required to pick up the cargo while dodging the missiles was a bit too difficult sometimes, so the cargo dropped a few too many times. And the ascend and descent velocity could have been a bit higher. Nevertheless, a very good submission.

Nuclear Delivery by DaniilPrasolov 2023-05-10T08:55:14Z

Nice submission. The car controls took a bit to get used to and I wasn't able to beat the game. Very nice pixel art though, especially the main menu background.

Delivery Guy by GordienkoGames 2023-05-12T10:05:59Z

I bet this is how many delivery guys feel for many parcels (or maybe just when our dog wants to bite them...). Very nice game, I only wish it would have been possible to kick while pressing the directional keys, maybe even taking the momentum into account for extra powerful kicks. Having to stop to be able to kick was a bit unintuative.

The Antidelivery Room by kaliuresis 2023-05-11T08:07:55Z

This was crazy. There was so much going on, I had no idea what I was doing most of the time. Spin to win for the win :D

Happiness Delivery by apiffer 2023-05-12T07:59:52Z

Such a nice little wholesome game. I wish there would have been calming ambient background music. Maybe I missed it, but I don't think there were any instructions how many flowers to collect, I arbitrarily kept going until she had 10 and it turned out, it was correct, but this could have been clearly, maybe even just something simple like changing the UI to 3/10 etc. Also, for a bit more gameplay variation, she could have asked for different colors, like "Oh dear, do you see the red flower over there? These remind me of my childhood, would you be so kind and get it for me". Nevertheless, a very nice entry.

Castaway Crates by James Laird 2023-05-10T16:21:14Z

Very interesting concept. The reading can be a bit too much, maybe you could have asked ChatGPT to give it's answer in one or two sentences each, which it totally could. As long as AI-use is clearly stated, I like to see what people can come up with and how they use it to create games. This reminds me of very old text based games and ChatGPT can clearly be a good solution for these types of games (even though I'm personally not a big fan of the genre).

DIVE or DIE! by PabloAbraham 2023-05-11T08:29:12Z

Absolutely stunning looking game with a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, I wasn't really able to figure out how to progress, all I managed to do was to create a few robots and take them with me, but then I got stuck. Also, a bit too much text at the beginning. After reading a bit, I skipped the rest, so maybe that was my problem, but with so many talented people on your team, maybe you could have made the turotial a bit more interactive and slowly introduced the features one by one, instead of a big wall of text in the beginning.

De-LIVE-ry by Supermango 2023-05-11T10:32:29Z

Overall a good game, very fitting for the theme. The one thing that would have put it over the top for me would have been if it was possible to run over the zombies, maybe with a nice "splash" sound effect too. Also, an arrow that points to the warehouse where you can refill would have been helpful. Once I ran out of package I drove around cluelessly trying to find the pickup location.

Aqua Mama Drama by aqua mama 2023-05-11T10:43:48Z

Very nice little game. The salmon look pretty cute. Unfortunately, the game gets very laggy very quickly. Did you use the canvas html5 drawing api or is this just html elements being moved? The former shouldn't lag at all, while manipulating the dom could explain the framerate issues.

LD54 — Limited Space

Little Cart of Junk by auxC 2023-10-04T10:42:10Z

Overall a nice, good-looking, and polished game. Some of the physics were a bit inconsistent though, with most items hardly moving at all, but when they collide in a weird way they yeet themselves into the stratosphere. Also, I assumed that collecting everything on the shopping list would complete the level, but I collected all of them on the cart a few times and it didn't move on.

Mousetropolis by Likirus 2023-10-06T10:47:10Z

@geronimo thanks :) Yes, it's Compo, so I worked alone. And creating mouse voices is indeed a lot of fun :D

Mousetropolis by Likirus 2023-10-08T07:54:07Z

@christian-zommerfelds @defrag Thanks for your feedback.

You are correct, the placement of the buildings does not matter, but if this was a more polished city builder, proximity boosts for something like the police would make a lot of sense.

I should have explained somewhere how money is generated. The housed mice pay taxes. Also, the homeless population increases crime. If you lost to crime and didn't have a lot of money, my guess is you didn't build a lot of houses.

Escape the Box by Ja_viera 2023-10-07T07:48:38Z

Very nice puzzle game. I got out of the dungeon, although I first went to the lock of the chest after I picked up the key, assuming I had to escape through that. I agree, a slightly faster way to place and rotate the tiles would have been useful, maybe drag&drop with rightclick to rotate or something like that. But good job overall, I enjoyed it and it felt satisfying to escape.

Happy Lockin' by Srynetix 2023-10-06T08:06:09Z

Very nice and polished game. I especially like the music and sound effects. The red flashing effect of the scanning is a bit too intense though, but adding a "toggle flashing lights" accessibility feature to a ludum dare game might be a bit out of scope ;)

Limit at Infinity by APG 2023-10-05T12:15:58Z

It's not very intuative that you have to move to the edges to be able to build, but after I figured that out and with your build order above, I was able to complete the first map and build the abysall building. However, it took quite a while and was a constant struggle because I could never really control the enemies. Your game is a very interesting concept and has some nice RTS/Starcraft vibes, but it could have used a bit more polishing to truly shine.

Unlimited space by Recher 2023-10-08T10:31:04Z

Interesting game although I'm not sure how unlimited space adheres to limited space ;) I didn't have too many problems understanding how to play with your descriptions and I managed to deliver a few passengers. I like that the alies only speak in emoji so you have no idea what they are saying, it adds character to the game. Stricly following the coordinates gets a bit tedious after a while and a graphical direction indicator would have been nice, but you are right, you shouldn't alter LD games during their rating period (although you could add a second post-jam version so people can still judge to original version, but also experience the improvements if they want). As a fellow self-made engine user, I always like to see custom engine games. Good job!

Space - Limited Edition by Thibaud 2023-10-06T08:15:09Z

Very nice management game, I like the animated start sequence and as nice as it is, the ability to skip it after you've seen it a few times #SkippableCutscenesFTW. Some sound effects would have been nice though, especially for the rocket launch.

Terrain Tactics by Asieke 2023-10-07T09:24:43Z

Interesting tactics game. I would have liked finer civ-like unit controls, i.e. first reposition and then attack, but I guess it's either move or attack, which is fine, especially for a compo game. Repositioning before attacking would have helped to last a bit longer, because some of my units tended to get caught on sub-optimal places. I really like the concept of your game though and with a little bit more polishing it could be even better.

BEAT 'N' DEAD by Proz 2023-10-06T11:50:36Z

Very nice rhythm game and well polished for a LD game. Did you create the music during the event? I tried to stick to the rhythm and it mostly worked (although I'm bad), but I also tried just mashing the buttons as quickly as I could and it also seemed to work, is there no penalty for missing a note? Also, the music bar seemed to slowly wiggle itself out of frame :D ld.png

Abyssal Edge by Mateu 2023-10-07T08:02:29Z

Very interesting game. It took me a few attempts to figure out how to play. I didn't get that shooting back at the robot would regrow the tiles, so I slowly ran out of room to dodge and died. In hindsight, it makes a lot of sense and is actually pretty cool that everything is balanced on a single value. I managed to defeat greg in the end, very nice game overall!

In the Shadows by KeichiTS 2023-10-06T14:23:20Z

Nice game with great ambience and mysterious atmosphere. Overall a bit too dark for me, it could be my monitor too though. It's quite tricky to dodge the enemies when you cannot see them, but I managed to kamikaze dive to one of the keys (there are like 3 seconds you can still move and collect stuff after you die^^). I got out in the end.

Exodus by Lachlan James 2023-10-07T09:44:29Z

Very nice game and well polished (maybe with the exception that the restart button does not seem to work). I got a bit screwed by the random events and only got events where I lost crew until I had none left ( I had like 500 of each resources and was desperatly waiting for a "get more crew" event ). Maybe you could have done the events with a Rimworld-style storyteller in mind that keeps things a bit more balanced (i.e. crew join events are more likely when the crew is low and vice versa ), but maybe that would have been a bit out of scope for a game jam submission. Nevertheless, one of the best game I have played so far. Good job!

Reborn----I am the king of APP by Saumon 2023-10-04T10:32:02Z

It works for me even though the UI is slightly cut off at the top and bottom in fullscreen on my 1080p monitor, I assume you used a 1440p+ monitor for development. While the goal of the game is clear, it's not really clear to me what the different attributes affect and what causes which app to go up or down in storage space. Also, the typewriter effect on the text gets a bit annoying after a while, it would have been great if clicking the mouse instantly showed the whole text. This type of game doesn't require Unity either, if you are familiar with web development, this could be done with basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript too, which makes the screen scaling issue you mentioned much easier for example.

Escape The Walls by purplexy 2023-10-06T10:59:17Z

Very nice and well-polished game. The atmosphere created by the music and the dark theme is great. Some of the hitboxes are a bit unforving and I couldn't make it through the red-green-light area, but the rest was a lot of fun and just the right difficulty that's challenging but doable.

Defrag by henk 2023-10-06T11:14:22Z

Very interesting puzzle game, probably one of the best puzzle games I have seen in Ludum Dare in a while. It took me one attempt to understand the rules, but when you do, it's very interesting and rewarding to find good solutions. Great Job!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Bullet Hell Typing by BlazeXenon 2018-05-09T16:47:59Z

Bonus points for sound and music volume sliders :)

Rythmer by TheWGBbroz 2018-05-07T19:48:26Z

Nice idea and game, I managed to beat the first level, but it probably took me way longer than it should have, I kinda went for only the easily distinguishable beats, and there were a few too many beat changes in the music, once I got the hang of a pattern, it already changed to another one ^.^ Also a minor point, maybe make the enemies flash or something when they take damage to provide some user feedback

Froggy Froschy by Likirus 2018-04-26T12:06:24Z

@harark , @arche-san : Thanks for the feedback, I changed it so pressing R will now restart the level at any time

Froggy Froschy by Likirus 2018-05-12T09:01:43Z

@carlosvVk nope, it's not right, there seems to be a bug ( or rather no bug(fly) :D ). It works fine in my firefox, so I'm not really sure how to reproduce it. Maybe refreshing the site would fix it.

Cornivore by nardandas 2018-04-25T16:17:47Z

nice and relaxing game, the controls felt a little weird to me, I would have prefered to control the walking/looking direction with the mouse instead of A and D, and use A/D as strafe left/right

BBall by carlosvVk 2018-05-05T19:52:44Z

it took me a minute to realize that I could move the platform, maybe you could mention how to move it in the "how to play" section ( Edit: Actually I realized that I'm blind and it's in the description here ^.^ maybe have it in the game too though ;) ) Other than that I really like the combination of genres you got here :)

ROYAL HEIGHTS ! BattleRoyal/PlateFormer ! by SphinxFr 2018-05-12T11:03:26Z

Impressive game! Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to try real multiplayer, so I just explored a bit on my own, but even that was an enjoyable experience. The only thing that was a bit annoying was the extremely high mouse sensitivity.

Fishing Fighters by Lucnatber 2018-05-12T09:20:10Z

Nice game :) the fishing part felt more polished than the fighting part tho. The fighting felt sluggish and I won every time by just walking to the opponent and spamming J and K until he was dead, maybe there could have been a block or a dodge mechanic in the fighting to add some variety to the fights.
