Wow, for some reason i really like this game a lot! I like the sabotages u implemented, makes this so much harder than it already is x.x I wonder what made u decide on 6 Minutes? I mean it fits, but my tower was at 40m at minute 5 before 2 bombs came in in the last minute so i wonder WHY q.q Didn't find any bugs which is always a big plus in Ludum Dare ^^
Enjoyed my time with your game and will consider to come back!
@thoastbot I settled on six minutes for pretty much the exact reason you describe here! It’s just long enough for the game to have a lot of entropy, and for the player to have something going, but with enough time left for it all to be destroyed! In hindsight, 5 minutes would have probably worked fine, but by the time I realized that I had already timed the music to six minutes so it would have been difficult to change.
Odd that D moves right but A doesn't move left - arrows worked though. Missed the rotate option (is there one?) and thought it was a little odd it warned me about the platform stability without showing it rotating. Nice execution though.
@somecodingguy The A key not moving left was simply a mistake (I mapped it to W instead on accident) since I added that control option at the last second. Yes, you can rotate blocks using Z/X keys, or 4/6 on the numpad, or the left and right mouse buttons depending on what you prefer. The shaking sabotage (which I assume is what you're talking about here) just shakes the camera, not the pieces. I just felt that with all the really cruel sabotages, I needed a couple weak ones in there to water them down.
I was building incredibly high with a solid foundation and just sort of lost it! Everything toppled. Really fun stacking. Awesome job!
I saw that post you made during the jam "This is the most cursed asset I ever made". But I didn't know which game it went to. I laughed out loud when it fell from the sky.
The whole thing definitely lulled me into a bit of a trance. I could see getting good at stacking stable patterns. But mine was a giant dumpster fire. :D
Reminds me of a game I made for Ludem Dare 49: Horse Pile https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/horse-pile
You game is much better though. :)
This was quite a fun little innovative game, though I must admit I'm not very good at it - my tower seems to devolve into a heap of trash relatively soon after building it. I like the idea of the random events and bombs being thrown at the tower and I love the humor and light mood that you put into the game as well.
I really enjoyed being trolled a bit by the sabotages, thanks for this experience 👍 :) I need to figure out a way to protect against bombs.
This game has a great sense of humor and progression. It's cruel, but in a fun way.
Very entertaining and satisfying to build. Those sabotages though! We had a similar idea of background art concepts.
I love the graphics and music. The gameplay was solid too. While the random events are fun, it can be frustrating to see my well built tower destroyed by a random bomb lol. Still, I had fun, thanks for the game.
I found this super satisfying. A varied take on tetris that really paid off. Nicely done. Also, "it's raining snakes!" is my favorite phrase of the jam so far!
I love little details like a bird hitting the blocks ;) Also, the music works really were with the overall mood of the game.
I wish I became cool guy like The Sun one day
Super cute and funny. I built realllll wide then only started going for height after a few minutes. got around 35m.
Well done!
I love the different events that happen throughout the game. There is a lot of variety from bombs, to rarthquakes, to hissing cat snakes. The music is also very cool, almost as cool as the sun :sunglasses:
It would be nice to have a button to make the blocks fall faster but I get how the slow moving blocks are supposed to make the events more impactful.
The game was pretty fun! the bombs felt a little unfair and there wasn't any real counter play to it. I think the invisibility mechanic was a bit better since it did give me the opportunity to tackle the challenge. Awesome job!
Hi, I enjoyed playing your compo game - nice idea for a stacker with 10 second hazards. I wish it was shorter than 6mins and the sounds are a bit jarring and too loud. Also I wish I could use the DOWN key to speed up the piece fall, like Tetris. Simple but nice art, good execution. I hate the raining snakes! I was at 45 meters and a green snake caused my tower to fall horribly, I couldn't recover and ended at 25 meters. Good job!
I am not sure if 24.9 is good but I had fun playing. I was all the way up in space and everything went invisible and I knocked my own tower over lol. I like the reverse take on a popular game. The different enemies every 10 seconds had me laughing when it rained snakes. Great entry!
Very polished game! I'm a big sucker for 2D physics stacking game :)
Very fun and addicting game! Intro screen is great. The invisible mode was a bit frustrating. I was trying to carefully build a properly constructed bomb-proof tower, but everytime invisible mode was on I just had to throw the piece away. I think invisible mode punishes trying to come up with building strategies, and the most success I had was with a big pile of rubbish sort of construction (very sturdy :'D). Overall still quite fun and good amount of polish. Music and sounds are well put together. Well done!
A very well-used physics system. The every-10-second events makes the game pretty interesting. I tried first to match blocks, but suddenly realized that the game is about building the pile high :joy: Lots of fun in the music, the sun, and the faces on the blocks!
Well that was pretty amazing what a cool idea and a great execution. Loved the music and the graphics - they work really well together to make a mood. Really appreciated the small animations around the place they added a lot of character.
Always a fan of physics in games and this was no exception it felt like everything had the right balance between acting how I expected but also going pear shaped at the right (wrong) time. On that note the sabotages all felt really well balanced just annoying enough to wreck my plans but I never really upsetting or too troll-y.
I don't think I was very good at it kept building up to 40m then falling back down to 20m.
Also I'm kind of (very) impatient and wish I could have sped the blocks up while falling by holding down or something.
fun! it's satisfying to place blocks and see them not fall over
Man that invisibility always came at the worst time for me, great game overall!
Chaos tetris - lots of fun and made me laugh. The invisibility thing was not my friend :) Could do with more specific goal than just get as tall as possible, but in a jam makes perfect sense. Well done!
Quite a fun little game which brings you back to stacking bricks as a kid and many of my towers were equally as instable as those in the game :D I got to 25m. Although I would have liked a down function like in Tetris, so once I'm happy with the placement and rotation of the block I could instantly place it. That would have enabled much taller towers.
This was a really great take on the physics Tetris genre! I got to 30+ meters on my first go. Assets and random effects were nice. I think the round timer was just a tad too long to encourage repeated play as the randomness in the game is quite high and your whole run could be ruin during the last minute. Super solid entry overall!
15.5m
I'm not a puzzle/physics game fan but I always do like stacking games for some reason, like the warioware smooth moves stacking minigame, and tricky towers; so I do dig this a lot!
I had a lot of fun hitting 28m with the bomb being the main culprit behind my tower actually looking more like a landfill full of yaranaika-faced snakes than an actual tower. That explosive was both terribly unfun and yet hilarious at the same time, as it almost removed the player skill dynamic in favor of the cathartic feeling of seeing your bootleg jenga tower come crashing down in flames.
So as someone who could be labeled a tryhard by some who also does happen to be especially sensitive to absurd humor you have got my butt stuck between two chairs here. Bless you, but also, curse you!
Congrats on the really solid submission, it snagged a lot of time out of me!
Hilariously frustrating! Like Tetris + Getting Over It haha. Great concept, great execution, my only criticism is that I think 6 minutes for a round is too long
