Steven Seagal: Hard to SWAT by farmergnome 2013-08-28T07:03:00
Wow, this is just a perfection.

Wow, this is just a perfection.
blah blah blah blah... beep... beep... phew!
Always respect the sfx made with human voice. Very humorous!
By far this is the best bgm I've heard. Great rewind effect!
The most polished game I've seen so far. I loved that moment when I showed that clock hand who's the boss until stage gets difficult and table gets turned.
Always leave the player wanting more.
Timeless advice.
Wow, that was purely awe-inspiring, especially how the boss scenario is scripted. Great Job!
The game doesn't seem to work like a screenshot. :( I'd love to see some zombie birds.
That was by far the most satisfying sword swing for pixelated player!
Great entry! There are just so many hidden humors that collectively make this the most humorous game I've rated so far! Only if it had audio, the experience could've been near perfection. Great Job!
Whoa, look at the size of that thing!
1. Turn this into mobile game
2. ???
3. Profit!
Make it happen!
Thank you all for playing, rating, and commenting on my game. Every single remark pumps up a huge amount of adrenaline!!
Thank you all for commenting. I slept total 5 hours during compo, but reading these comments really help me get over this fatigue.
I had this concept weeks before the competition in order to prepare for themes like 'time' and 'end of the world'. You have no idea how loud I screamed when LD27 theme was announced.
@Empyrealhell All your criticisms are valid. Collision detection is this entry's biggest weakness and most of the graphics are rushed during the last quarter of the compo. Coming up with cohesive graphics for such a large world was nearly impossible to accomplish with my skill.
I will look forward for your entry, too.
@Dooleus I made the world too big that it blew out of proportion when I started drawing at the last quarter of the compo. After spending a lot of time on the character design, it was nearly impossible to draw background with the same level of detail and quality in less than 8 hours. I wish I could have done better with graphics.
Thank you everyone for positive comments. I would definitely consider full production once I gain enough experience on game development.
@Xotraz Not being able to delete or even edit comment is indeed a big inconvenience for community oriented website like LD.
@AdricZero Initially I put some melody but it really didn't fit with the theme of having the time stopped. I found simple chime beat good enough, but I wish I spent more time on it.
Just woke up now to see my comment section doubled (It's Asian timezone here). Thank you all for such a wonderful reception. It's very amazing that something I've worked alone in my room during weekend could mean a lot to many people far far away from where I am. I do carefully read every single one of them and it really makes my day. Here is my resolution.
I firmly believe the game deserves post-compo edition. Take away a unique mechanic, the game is acceptable for such a hospitable community like LD but still has long way to go for the world. I can't promise anything but I will die trying to get this more polished with better visual, better music, and better collision detection. This still will be worked on alone, so it's going to be a free web game. Thank you all for great support!
@KevinZuhn I figured some people might get stuck on the third zone. I noticed at the last minute that the building has very poor visual cue after putting that rushed drawn background in. My apology for time wasted to figure that out.
The second thing you pointed out was another anomaly. I will try to resolve this on post-compo edition.
@Alex Shestakov I had the same doubt weeks before considering 2dToolkit as my tool. I've managed to confirm that 'paid tools' are allowed since they are 'publicly available'.
Thank you all again! I am carefully reading through every single comment and every opinion, positive or negative, really helps me improve.
@TobiasW Thank you for the long comment. I love compliments but love opinions (esp. long and honest one) even more.
Yeah, it was a bit of mistake to unpause time after world resets. Also, animating with less than dozen pixels turn out to be really tricky. The car explosion was totally intended.
Here is how I did the time thingy with Unity. 10 seconds with 0.1 timestep means 100 sized array of positions and rotations. While the intro is running, I basically let each stage run the physics engine and store position, rotation, and sprite frame each 0.1 second. When the time is up, I got rid of all the rigid bodies and updated each scene based on rotation and position stored.
So yeah, 100 sized List of position and rotation (and some other information) for every single object in the game.
@Jordo76 Linearity was inevitable. I had to put physics entities and see if how that makes or blocks path on certain duration.
@thesunnyk I was thinking of reversing time a few seconds on each zone. I had it built but it just didn't feel right.
<SPOILER ALERT>
@AdventureIslands There are two ending routes, which depend on the completion time. Each has two choices while sharing one, making it three.
@TailyILoveYou I had perfect idea for dynamic music that fits with time mechanics but just didn't have enough knowledge and time to make it happen. :(
Thank you all for commenting. LD has been such a wonderful experience so far thank to all of you!
@Crowbeak Granted.
@Lokarunith Did not mean to make it sound offensive. It was my awkward attempt for pun.
@dlan Thank you very much for confirming that it works on Ubuntu. This LD actually makes me want to start learning Linux.
If there is a technological excellence category in LD, this sure earned five stars.
That was pretty compelling game with Minecraft style craft system. I do notice some performance issue in the beginning. Good luck!
Great concept, but it became great only in concept due to non-intuitive puzzle. 10 seconds restriction forces you to focus on execution after figuring out what to do during memory mode. It's hard to figure out what tool is good for what, which made me stuck past ventilation. Otherwise, very compelling game with humorous writing when you touch the needle!
I see someone was heavily influenced by FTL. The game crashed when the charging was finished though.
Wow, it's like every single one of your entries are all really fun to play. Great job!
These enemies sure know how to aim and shoot!
+5 humor for the title. Thank you for your coolness and the awesome game!
Great! That was the most gore pixel death scene I've ever seen.
Wow, such a haunting story. I really really love how you have to push your car away from other potential victims in the end. That was definitely best thing I had to do in LD. Excellent!
Love the dystopian take of the theme. The game is very polished. Counting ten seconds on the head is still challenging though.
Feel so alone playing this game. Mood is perfectly synthesized.
I like the plot twist created by adding gravity. That was truly genius!
Making a note here: huge success.
This game reminds me of Giant Boulder of Death!
If this game doesn't score #1 in Humor I don't know what to believe anymore.
Thanks for the comments! I really didn't know the game was unforgiving until I started hearing about it :(
@zconnelly13
I would encourage you to hop on the Unity wagon :)
@zzzev Due to many people pointing out the difficulty of the game, I uploaded 10 Lives version without touching the original submission.
@tklovert The theme was too limiting for mechanic innovation so I tried it on ending instead. Unfortunately, the mechanical flaw of the game overshadowed that attempt :/
@WhoaConstrictor
I'm starting to think whether I'm not only person who can clear 3 lives version without dying a single time.
1. Turn this into iPhone game.
2. ???
3. Profit!
I applied my standard MMORPG strategy until Queenpup came up behind me while I was picking up the arrow :/
The only flaw for this game is the control. It's certainly playable, but I don't think you have 100% fluid control that just feels right. Other than that it's strong entry!
Totally gives the new meaning to 'loose cannon'. Great!
I think you created a new genre here!
The only problem I have with this game is that you can keep the test subject going just with respiratory and digestive system. Other than that, it's awesome!
Simply marvelous.
The most thrilling entry so far. I got all of my senses put to the test there.
Reminds me of TF2 Spy.

There is this series on Youtube that can help you greatly with the 2d platformer on Unity. Hope this helps.
You nailed the death game trope perfectly!
Haha, I love the management sim entry for game jam. Path optimization as a gameplay triggered my love of this genre.
Very polished entry. Also requires massive brain @_@. I think the game would hit the sweet spot if it wasn't confined by the theme.
@ghostbomb oh I meant the whole "10 seconds" frame adds too much complexity (for my tiny brain). If there were fewer slots, I think the whole experience could've been elevated IMO
I really love the hex-tile presentation of the game. Very well done!
I really liked the art. The tightest life sim game ever! The most important improvement I can suggest is the game could've felt a lot better if each action gave you clear feedback.
Wow, this is very polished entry. The puzzle is simple but somehow you managed to sneak in a challenge in there. The factory aesthetics is just too clean and awesome. Excellent work!
As someone who had sickly & energetic cat, I can totally relate to this game
Amogus! See you at the compo top chart!
Theme: Every 10 seconds Game: Sick Pirate Tony Hawk game
This has to be the wildest entry I've seen in this jam XD.
Also, I can totally relate to the crash you experienced. That's why my entry doesn't have audio :o
Definitely reminds me of super meat boy. Very impressive to pull off smooth wall hanging/jumping within 48 hours!
Love the twist! Would've been really strong contender if the 10 second darklord feature is included!
Honestly I'm a sucker for a color based game! Well done!
Geometry runner! I like it! I can tell how much fun you had with writing the intro cutscene XD
Unpublished. Sad :(
Oh man. All this time I was being chased by the giant meatball.
Haha, I got a strong Katamari Damacy vibe on this one!
There is always next time!
Metroidvanian game design vibe was massive. Very well polished entry!!
I really appreciate "game with secrets" type. For the time being, I really wish I can watch the full gameplay walkthrough in video form.
I was flexing the same muscles I used when I played "I'm on observation duty". Great visuals and production!
That was one of the best intro transition I've seen in the jam. This is one of the most polished entries I've seen!
Haha, I love how you have a series of LD entries :)
If the web version is not showing up correctly, try uploading it to itch.io instead.
Oh wow. I'm really blown away by this entry. You've managed to capture this semi-real perspective of shooting machine gun in a wide empty field while slapping in awesome humor in there.
I never expected two of my favorite genres would get merged for game jam. This is very brilliant execution!
Interesting twist of tower defense game! Dialogue can be a bit heavy, but the game was definitely enjoyable!
Oh wow. This entry is super clean and polished. Well done! I also really dig into Wario Ware interpretation of the theme!!
Interesting game! Pretty well visualized bullet hell in 3D environment!
Clock was a very interesting design decision. I really enjoyed the game!
Very polished game! I'm a big sucker for 2D physics stacking game :)
hahahahahahaha, 10/10 BRILLIANT
One of the top notch interpretation of the theme! This game definitely re-awakened the fear of light I've developed when playing V Rising!
DAAAAAANG! The sound design of this game enhanced the experience like 100 fold!
oof, I would have destroyed the computer or gotten depressed if this happened to me too :( Very cool game!
The physics engine for this game looks super realistic! :P
Jokes aside, the rules are simple and intuitive enough to turn this into small kickstarter project!
This game is really really polished and looks amazing! Unfortunately, the camera movement made me sick and didn't allow me to enjoy this work of art for long :(
Holy crap. This was one hack of a trip! Got a bit of pony island vibe in here (intended or not).
Wow, a TCG without battle system. That's 6/5 for innovation!
I think this is the most polished entry I've seen! I really admire how you managed to put all of this together in 48 hours!
Oh my goodness. The narration was awesome! The joke was spot on (time -> timed). Twice in a row, I ran into a bug where game loop froze except for the character animations. This happened when I tried to cast lightening spell (since I saw blue enemy) and arranged yellow tiles vertically.
I can play the game and it is one of the most polished entries! Really ingenuous pun!
This is one of those games where you have to invest time to really appreciate it. I'd say for the purpose of jam, make actions happen early and introduce the gimmick; otherwise, the first few ten seconds felt long.
Very cute art! I enjoyed Wario Ware take on the game!
Great concept! I kinda wish you could move a bit faster.
Stardew valley is not a chill game. I think this jam just captured that essence XD. I really enjoyed this Stardew speedvalley. I kinda wish the collision box was more generous.
One of the coolest corruption color palette I've ever seen!
This is awesome game! Good luck!
Instruction unclear. Kitchen is burnt XD
Haha, I wish I can give 6.0 for humor and audio. This is awesome!
At first, I thought this was a cliche puzzle. Then it hit me every 10 seconds XD
oof, I thought I was good with Galaga. This is like a Galaga on steroid!
Haha, imagine going back and forth between heaven and hell. I love the execution! Somehow oddly this game reminds me of the third stage of necrodancer.
I think you have a great idea here! If this game had more than 48 hours to work on, it can be really promising puzzle game!
Haha, you dialed portal mindset up to 12!
This was a fine entry. I liked it!
You had something really unique and cool going on here. I wish there was more time to realize them :|
I could not jump past the first few platforms :(
OMG. I cannot believe you pulled off the REAL horror in 48 hours. I got the chill and goosebumps!
