LD45 — Start with nothing

sheol by Silent Tower Games 2019-10-07T10:44:18Z

@musicblox thanks for playing! The wall jumping collisions are bugged unfortunately. I thought it still worked most of the time if I didn't place walls too close together, but it appears that wasn't true.

@cassowary thanks for playing! I agree with your criticisms; there should've been a bigger penalty for dying than just having to wait a few seconds, and the collision detection was bad in places.

I'm considering turning it into a full game, and those issues will certainly be fixed. Also I had to cut two bosses, platforming areas leading up to the bosses, and one upgrade, to fit for time.

Story Collabs by Maakep 2018-05-05T17:45:01Z

Cool game idea! I'm sure a very interesting story will come out of this.

PE@CE by bwalter 2018-04-23T04:58:27Z

This game is excellent. It has loads of interconnected levels, a beautiful aesthetic, lots of polish, and it's very fun. It feels like a real game rather than something made in a game jam. I highly recommend it

CCG Shoot 'em Up by Moczan 2018-04-23T02:40:01Z

I love the idea of slowing down bullet hells. The gameplay in this one was pretty well-executed!

Spacecards by Literally Void 2018-04-23T03:06:32Z

Cool concept, fun game, polished UI. The laser card was really fun! 2D space shooters are always good.

If this turned into a full game, maybe the card system could be a little more balanced. I got a "destroy all bullets on screen" card right after "laser", for instance.

Travis Beacon Teaches Fighting by niksg 2018-04-23T03:13:19Z

I liked this lot. it has a good amount of polish, the music is great, and I was caught off-guard by what appears to be messages in the letters haha.

The difficulty spikes pretty hard by the third fight, though.

Zoom: A Racing Text Adventure by cesque 2018-04-23T03:26:37Z

The theme is fun. The text is nice and descriptive, although it gets quite repetitive.

Slightly spoilers: ~~the text near the end was very fun. Also, I found a cheating method for most of the race: it seems links that are associated with "empty road" turn slightly purple, so instead of reading to find out which direction to go, I jst looked at the links.~~

Flappy Typing by Frodewin 2018-04-24T18:00:28Z

I'm impressed that you made a Commodore game and uploaded an emulator for us to play. That's really cool!

I had the same issue as the user above, where I needed to refresh to make my keystrokes register properly, but that's not a big deal.

The difficulty was too high for me to get very far, but I really liked what I played.

Felocity by Adam Wallberg 2018-04-23T02:48:50Z

Nice game. It feels fairly polished! Fun concept, too.

Puck Off by Matthew Roelle 2018-04-23T02:58:34Z

Wow this is really fun! It's more of a final game than a game jam entry. Very nice!

Modern Art Critic Hero by jeplmr 2018-04-23T01:28:10Z

Pretty neat, I got a couple laughs out of it!

ACCIDENTAL EXISTENTIAL by slovnoslomo 2018-04-24T14:11:28Z

The sound design was top-notch! That's an interesting part of your game to prioritize in a game jam. It paid off very well.

You managed to take a very simple control scheme and make it work across three different game concepts, good design there!

The games themselves were great. They had a strong, effective atmosphere that you can't help but be sucked into. They also have a high chance of personally resonating with people, and they explore some rather dark themes.

I don't really understand the third game, and it seemed really short -- it was over in about 5 seconds for me. I think it's my fault for not really getting it. But it would've been cool to be able to interact with that game the way I did with the others, also.

Overall, this is an excellent game. Very good job! I hope to see more games from you :)

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-23T17:10:54Z

I've got to say, this is definitely the most atmospheric ASM simulator I've ever played (it may also be the only but hey). Mixing that idea with a dungeon sim fits pretty well, I say. The music isn't bad, and it does help set the mood.

It's well-executed and polished. The UI was easy to use and understand, except that it would've been cool to go to the next level automatically instead of having to type it in every time. I assume that's part of the concept though.

It felt good to accomplish a level, and made me feel kind of smart, but the actual gameplay was mostly about counting tiles and remembering which number goes which direction. I only finished two levels.

But after all, it's a game about going to hell and being forced to write machine code. I think this is a fairly well-made game that's aware of its tedium.

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-23T18:33:50Z

@vilix64 oops, that's my mistake for only playing two levels in before judging. Sorry!

After playing farther in, it gets pretty deep. I really enjoyed layers 5 and 6. Layer 7 was a little much for me to do right now so I stopped there again.

Pretty Crowded Dungeon by sprvrn 2018-04-23T04:16:47Z

Neat game! I love the graphics, good job on those. The sound effects are simple, but they work well.

I assume the levels are randomly generated? Some levels tend to be much harder than others, and from what I can tell the difficulty doesn't progress. I didn't seem to come across any broken levels, though.

But the best part about the game is how well it fits the theme. It's a rogue-like dungeon crawler where you're tasked with grabbing a key and leaving, but your movement is straight out of a puzzle game.

Hook That Fish! by GhostGoatsGames 2018-04-23T03:46:39Z

I liked this a lot! It's got a few things going for it.

The sections where you navigate the hook to the fish remind me of the puzzle spinoffs that are popular now (Hitman Go, Friday the 13th Killer Puzzle, etc). They're challenging and well-made, in my opinion.

I thought that catching the fish by doing key combinations was a good idea. It's not terribly challenging, but mix it with the game timer and it's pretty fun.

Overall, I think this is a pretty cool game!

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-22T16:11:06Z

@parkinje enemy health intentionally doesn't reset. Thanks for the feedback!

@Serious07 thanks, the checkpoint system was a late addition

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-23T03:51:25Z

@Fanttum I appreciate the praise & critique. If I end up making something more out of this concept, I'll focus on improving the platforming and balancing out the RPG elements.

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-23T17:57:35Z

@steve-sparkes Thanks for the praise! :D I will keep making games! As for the tough jumps, I agree that it can be frustrating. It was just a fast way to make engaging levels. If I take this concept farther, there will probably be a lot more range in the difficulty.

@Handle good point about jumps being cut off by the screen. If I use this concept for a more serious game, I'll make sure that isn't an issue. Thanks for the feedback!

@neowhoru Thanks for playing! The "psychic" ability lets you see the enemy's health bar.

@CrispyPear I agree that health regeneration from falling death sort of throws off the balance. If I spend more time on the game, that's one of the things I'd like to fix. I appreciate the feedback!

@bitjester-media I agree that the jumping/vertical speed could feel better. If I take this project farther, I'll spend a lot more time ironing out issues like the jumping speed, as well as the other things you mentioned. More balanced battles, a way to dodge attacks, perhaps a different checkpoint system altogether, etc. Thanks for playing!

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-24T16:29:17Z

@croewens Thanks for the feedback! I agree that the RPG system could be stronger, and the jump feels weird.

As for the checkpoint system, when you die it restarts you where you won your last fight. Enemies don't respawn, and if you lose a fight to an enemy, it does not regain any health when you die so it's easier to defeat.

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-27T15:22:58Z

@acoto87 I played yours the other day. Good game!

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-30T01:20:59Z

@CalebLewis I appreciate for the feedback. I think adding a defense system could be a big improvement to the game. If I take the idea further, I plan on doing something like that. Thanks!

@Jamblefoot Thanks for playing! As for your question, when you level up, it just increases the effectiveness of your attacks. If I make this into a full game, there will definitely be a more robust RPG section.

Witch's Escape by cristiano.m.garcia 2018-05-08T15:06:38Z

Cool game! I think there's a lot of potential in this genre combination.

The graphics and audio were really well-done.

The gameplay itself was a little slow and simple, but it was fun enough. If you go farther with this project, I suggest leaving less space between obstacles.
