blowing ships up feels really nice. really missing some terrible programming noises over the silence though
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD41 → Spacecards

Needs lots of polish, gameplay could be a bit better.
Great idea ! Love the cards animations and the game aesthetics. Innovative mechanics.
This was pretty fun! I actually lol'd when I got the laser the first time.
The integration of the card game was interesting. It has potential, but there weren't enough of them to really make it interesting. Several of the cards were nearly useless, and it felt bad to get the same weak card 3 times in a row. That being said, i did find several of the cards to be fun, and the first time I got the laser was awesome.
Which brings me to my next point- it was far too easy. I got bored before taking a single point of damage. As long as I went for the cards which let me kill things better, I was able to keep the enemy count down enough that it was easy to dodge everything.
Also, the only difference between enemy types seems to be their hit points and the points you get for killing them. They even look identical! This made it feel like there wasn't any progression aside from the score going up.
Hey! This was pretty fun :) I Really liked the 3d effect and the slight turning of the player model. I agree with the previous comment about sound missing (I did not have time to do sound this ldjam either, so who am I to judge?). The controls felt good and the "menus" were easy enough to understand and navigate. Good job :thumbsup:
Enemies that 'move' super slowly in the background seem to just stall and not move. It'd be more intense and fun if they moved faster.
A really polished entry, blowing up those ships feels great. The game could use an auto-fire/toggle since you want to fire all the time anyway.
The laser is really fun :) Simple but effective graphics. I too would like some sound! I want to be able to move my ship up and down too! I'd like the "discard" or "use" buttons to be something else closer to the space-bar.
@ORECROS I didn't have time to add sound. Maybe next time :)
@KRP I agree, probably should've added much more polish! It really adds a lot to a game.
@lavwa Thanks!
@the-dustin-holmes Haha :)
@notgreat Definitely agree.
@Tim Eriksen Thanks!
@Dakota Jones Agree as well :P
@Moczan Didn't think of that, it would've added a lot.
@Distrait Great points! I didn't really think of keyboard difference when making the keybinds, I'll be sure to take it into account next time :D
Cool concept, fun game, polished UI. The laser card was really fun! 2D space shooters are always good.
If this turned into a full game, maybe the card system could be a little more balanced. I got a "destroy all bullets on screen" card right after "laser", for instance.
Very enjoyable and very polished shooter. But it would be so much better with sound. Even the simplest "pew-pew" sounds on player's shots would greatly improve audiovisual feed back.
And 'Space' was a poor choice of key to shoot, because (at least for me) it meant, that every time I try to shoot, the page scrolls down a bit. A fullscreen button would solve this problem.
Anyway, great entry!
It looks great!
I have to agree with the others though, sound is _very_ important to getting a game to feel good. Don't neglect it next time! With some simple tools (Like Sfxr or Bfxr) you can make some fitting sounds in only minutes.
Also, the laser is sooo overpowered haha. Had to laugh when everything on screen instantly died.
This can become a fun game with some more work!
Pretty cool game! Sound would've made it much better though. Also, some variation in enemies and their behavior would've been cool. Art was good aswell.
@Jack Hipson Yep, pretty much. My art is pretty bad though.
Love that spread card! And the screen shake!
Nice little game :D Our game genre chose, looks the same, check out my game if you has some time :D Shoot them up + Cards become popular :D
i like this game, with some graphical upgrades this could be a really good game
Does it stop getting harder after a while? I made it to 8000 and felt like I could have kept going for a long, long time. I like the card mechanic, which makes you likely to ditch a Rapid Fire on top of your deck, hoping for something better, but a Rapid Fire 4th, you're like, "hoo baby, I'll take it."
also laser OP
- could have really used some sounds to round out the game - the balance on the cards was really odd. basically the weapon upgrades seemed to be the only thing worth it. - would have been nice to be able to take no card.. got a string of the 'escape plan' cards with nothing near me... so basically had to take a 10hp hit. - game could have probably gone on for ever shy of getting stuck with self damaging cards.
