LD38 — A Small World

Anger Birb: World by Jezzamon 2017-04-25T21:04:24Z

Nice! I like that you made a game about flying from San Francisco to Sydney while you were exactly doing this. Though I hope you were not catapulted there.

My world by Erkberg 2017-05-01T22:04:53Z

The initial story is great, but I kept on dying in the game. I like the graphics style, the sounds fits the gameplay.

Wrong Delivery by g12345 2017-05-21T08:34:59Z

I read your ranting about the bad rank and so i decided to play your game :-) I liked the game very much! I think I gathered the most items and abilities, except for the one at 1400,1760 is it actually possible to get that one using double jump or do I need another ability? I had laser and walk in air as well at that point.

I agree with your assessment that the final ranking for this game are a bit disappointing. I'm new to LD but I think this is an effect of most people avoiding mostly extreme ranks (so no 1 or 5 stars unless a game is exceptional great or bad) and that there is a high variability among the votes. Your game basically ended up with an average 3 in most categories, except theme and innovation. Theme I would agree, your game does not especially address the small world theme in my opinion. Innovation I would have rated higher, but only because I played your game long enough to find the power-ups. I would guess many voted just based on the first impression where the game does not look very innovative. So, I understand your frustration but on the other hand it is understandable how the ratings were made. I think that just 20 ratings for a game from a pool of thousands reviewers introduces just too much statistical variance in order to give a stable ranking.

Chunk World by TheSand 2017-04-25T21:24:32Z

The link to itch.io does not work, you gamejolt did work. Nice game, awesome that you finished this in 25h. I found your game by entering "survival "GAME: COMPO" site:ldjam.com" on Google btw.

World Jump by stefvanschie 2017-05-07T21:03:42Z

I love the idea of travelling to different cities and to have some national attractions in the background and some local things to jump over. Regarding the LD theme, I see the "world" theme addressed, but I'm not sure about the "small world". After all you show a big world with some particular cities. The animation was very fast in my case. Not sure if it is depending on computer speed, if yes, I recommend to add a timer to keep the speed fixed. The jumping in the beginning had to be quite exact in order not to land on an obstacle. It becomes easier later when the scrolling gets faster. Sometimes, there were multiple obstacles close to each other which made it impossible to succeed in the jump.

Tooth decay by Ithildin 2017-05-17T10:48:12Z

Ouch! From the description of the game I thought: no, I'm not gonna play this! But then i did. I quickly understood the game mechanics and started drilling. The game is simple and fun! It motivated me to go on playing, one gets very well into "the flow". For me, the avatar you play looked a bit odd to me, more like a pink ghost than an actual bacteria. I also liked the popup image of the kid, giving a hint about what is going on in the "macro" world. The small world theme is well addressed, the unit of microns contributes to this effect. Well done!

(Un)Happy by pcmaster 2017-05-19T07:48:28Z

Nice idea! I also found the controls and gameplay very intuitive, I immediately knew what to do. The game in its current form is not very challenging though, but it depends on your target audience. At the moment it is a perfect gateway game for children, having cute graphics and a goal where everybody is happy in the end.

Exoman by Rother Games 2017-05-13T18:53:27Z

Interesting and very innovative idea! When I played it, the exoman was always shooting to the left, even if I faced right. Not being able to shot things into the right direction, I just walked into building to crash them. This worked, but depleted my health after some time. When I played again, I tried jumping on top of the buildings, which worked well and let me get to the end of the city. There I kept running and killed some people on the way, but after some time, I was alone, without getting to a new level. I guess I would have had to go back to destroy what's left of the city. If you want to improve the game, i suggest making the weapons more useful (currently walking into a building/your opponent works best). The walking animation also shows the exoman sprite to be a bit short-legged, but this only came to my attention when I had a lot of time to look at (on the right side after the city).

A small world by CoderDozer 2017-05-01T21:59:40Z

I liked the opening and the LD islands. I was waiting for the story to unfold and building up suspense and thus was a bit surprised when it ended without a conclusion. The graphics and sounds are good, it would be interesting if you further develop this into a game!

Exploitation by Jimbly 2017-05-07T21:20:07Z

Great idea, but I would have wished for more clues what to do when. I would suggest structuring the interface on the right into a haven and ship part, where you can load/unload between the two instead of having it overall grouped by items, this was a bit confusing in the beginning. I like the tutorial-style information on your home position, this was very helpful!

Communitas by hbocao 2017-05-17T10:38:42Z

Creative joint city building, yeah! I like the concept, but the timeouts were annoying me. When I wanted to build a road, I had to wait between setting each single tile.

Too Big For This WorLD38 by joemid 2017-05-17T10:31:55Z

The graphics look awesome and the sounds are great (but they are opted out for the voting) and in overall the game gives a feeling of immersion. I had trouble understanding the gameplay though. The avatar was a bit small (although I have a big screen) and my mouse lagged (which might have been a problem of my computer). I watched the gameplay video as well and saw that there is a zoom in function, but I still could not determine what I should do in the game. I think I would play this again but I would need a tutorial (TBFTW for dummies :-))

coollapse by nicruo 2017-05-12T18:46:09Z

Interesting game, took me some time to understand how to play it. I accidently left a row which caused a lot of gravity switches in the end. It would be interesting to hear the story why the ball is collapsing the world.

Anthill Multitask by Asturk 2017-05-03T23:09:04Z

Awesome game, well done! I first thought that this will just exceed my coordinative abilities from the beginning, but the tutorial was so well done that I actually survived for some time (and then, unavoidingly my coordinative abilities failed me). I love how the different screens have totally different gameplay and how it all adds up to a multitasking game with cute graphics and fitting sound.

A Tower in the Mists by sorlok 2017-05-20T18:19:52Z

Nice graphics and story, but the fights were a bit to lengthy. It was also very difficult for me to find patterns in the opponents' attacks, so it basically was mostly luck when I won. I managed to win the first two fights though. I like the idea with the three Scissors-Paper-Stone-like characteristics. I don't know what FP, DT and PL meant.

Attack of the Planetary-Vampires by Rolle 2017-05-15T21:09:36Z

Nice graphics, sounds and music do also fit very well and give the game a particular nice style. The hitboxes of the sprites seem to be a bit to large, enemies explode before the bullet is touching them. It is also possible to destroy an enemy when you miss it by a close amount. I like how the opponents come from a distant mist. The gameplay became a bit dull over time.

Edge of the Abyss by piscythe 2017-05-02T10:08:54Z

Great game, but it took me some time to figure out a strategy. The building names and graphics were not intuitive to me to figure out what they are doing. For example I would not know what Office or Cultist is doing without reading the description. The description mentions a generator, which is called Crystal in the game. Pretty hard game, after playing several times I could not manage to survive much longer than two minutes (I started building two generators and then towers, then the attacks started and weared me down :-) I saw that you opted out of audio, but this game would do great with some sounds and voice recordings, probably for a later version?

Dwarf World by rnlf 2017-05-16T22:58:09Z

Awesome game! The puzzles in the tutorial levels became a bit became a bit boring, but then the game caught me with its trickier levels. Almost gave up, but then solved them! I love the graphics and the animation, as well as the sound effects, these are great! The music gets a bit monotonous after some time. Very well designed levels!

It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things by simonhutchinson 2017-05-01T21:33:18Z

Awesome sound, great graphics. The sound of the star is very fitting! The game itself was a bit too easy, it was more a challenge of patentience than of skill to win the game. I loved to play it though!

Worlds Project by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2017-04-24T21:19:10Z

Cute game, I like that it is open end. My creatures all died because they left their proper habitat. How do you get the hut?

Worlds Project by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2017-04-25T21:11:17Z

Made a scenario with people and trees .. got the huts, thx!

Little Fortune Planet by Flaterectomy 2017-05-16T22:10:53Z

Pretty weird game, love it! I was not sure what I was doing, but I enjoyed playing! There were some performance issues in the web version. Or probably I need a new PC...

Exo-bot by deathray 2017-05-07T21:33:09Z

Played only the compo version. I like the mining/buiding idea. I was a bit confused when drilling because I expected the robot to actually drill down. The small world theme is well addressed. It took me some time to get used to the controls.

Fixville by vladik-plays 2017-05-14T21:06:29Z

I tried to play it online on GameJolt, but the loading screen (the one from game jolt) did never end. The opening scene is fantastic, not only the garphics but also the camera path. I was expecting some music there, would be even more awesome! The gameplay itself was a bit simplistic. The walking sound could be damped a bit.

BAD RNG by internetpaulicy 2017-05-11T23:34:22Z

Nice idea, the 3D view on the console add greatly to the athmosphere, as well as the spiders crawling on top of the screen which gives a great effect.

What Remains. by Fiote 2017-05-03T22:21:56Z

Cool game! I especially like the graphics and the idea of a bunker survival game to address the small world theme! If you want to improve something, I would recommend the feedback to the player. In the beginning I told the people to do a lot of things despite the respective devices were not build yet.

Yours by binaryferret 2017-04-26T08:02:47Z

Nice job! I enjoyed playing it, it has a relaxing atmosphere. The music fits well, but is a bit too "pointy" in its sounds to my opinion (whatever that means). How do the people learn the map? Do they actually build an internal map or did you use somestigmergy algorithm like ants? Do they have a shared map or does each person have to learn the surroundings on its own? If you are going to extend the game, you could also add fish and dolphins.

SnowGlobe Warrior by Ethan Allwood 2017-05-14T20:54:51Z

Cool game! I absolutely like the music, reminds me of old games on the Commodore. The graphics are well elaborated and fit the theme. The small world topic is nicely addressed. I had however a problem with the controls, they appear to be a bit laggy. For example, instead of a quick swordstrike, one has to wait for the sword to materialize.

A lone colony on a small planet by makiki99 2017-05-12T18:48:43Z

Nice to see a rather complex game designed for a very reduced platform. The different keys between the pico-8 and web version were a bit confusing. I love the pixel graphics.

Drifting away by Nimbus 2017-05-03T22:57:40Z

Nice take on the small world theme by mixing in big and small worlds. I managed several stages until it became too hard. I know that there is no sound in space, but a little bit of acoustic feedback, e.g. made with [bfxr](http://www.bfxr.net/) would have made the game even better!

Newton's Cannon by xykvy 2017-04-27T23:25:20Z

Nice game! I almost never used the jetpack though, only one time when a lot of enemies had cornered me. I also like that the game plays in the browser (I also made a browser game), because I'm too lazy to download and install a lot of games.

Don't Make Me Stop This Car! by UncleChris 2017-05-11T23:29:36Z

I especially like the story of the game and the graphics. The music is repetitive, but that is fine, given that it annotes a highway drive. As far as I understood, I can only change lanes in the game, right? I was wondering if the heads of the the four people in the car are there on the left screen side for a reason? I won the game after playing (and losing) several time. It appears to me that sometimes one is just unlucky, being not able to evade a bulk of cars in front in time.

Sunken by j-nat 2017-05-11T23:43:51Z

Interesting setup, the graphics are cute! I was not sure how to interact with the treasure and the coconut, I got a sign on the game screen that looked like a squeezed latter U, what does that mean?

Ark of the new world by jojocanard 2017-05-07T21:28:14Z

Awesome concept! I somehow survived the levels, but I don't how what I did to succeed. Some things apeared elementary to me after the first level, like to place people not on the right or left border (enemies spawn there), to place them not to close or in water and to spread them a bit.

Grow Little Planet by jin47 2017-05-08T20:52:41Z

Nice relaxing game. I enjoyed plaing it, I especially liked the planet graphics. It seems there is no way to die in this game, is this correct? I was a expecting that I would run out of fuel or that something would attack my world. The small world theme is addressed in an excellent way, gathering asteroids to increase a small planet's mass makes sense.

Generation Ship by argensis 2017-05-20T14:48:14Z

What does the abbreviation AP mean? The userinterface is a bit confusing. You could disable (ghost out) the assets that cannot be build with the current resources. What does the sign with a person on a red background mean? It appears on my farm and power buildings. In one case the sign was oscillating between neighboring buildings. For graphics, the outer shape of the space ship could be made more space-ship looking, a slowly moving stars background would also contribute to the setting. When I played, the food stockpile counter did something odd - it went more an dmore negative although I was producing far more food than was consumed.

Planet Hopper by carrot 2017-05-20T11:27:59Z

I didn't look at the game before so I was surprised when I suddenly was in a platformer after touching that muchroom. Positively surprised, to say! However, I had a lot of issues with the controls. What looked like a simple task in a platformer become really frustrating to me. The main problem in my opinion is that the sprite's flipping point is not centered. So when I am on the edge of a platform and I want to switch direction, I fall off the platform. This caused also a problem when I went too close to the stair-like platforms from underneath. When I wanted to go back, I was stuck under the stairs and I could not get out again.

stuck.png

Stuck forever, despite having 7 lives left :-(

Other than that I like the idea, theme, sound and graphics of the game. You wrote that you opt out of the graphics, but the graphics rating is still there.

Little Mouse Planet by Frodewin 2017-04-26T07:50:24Z

Thanks for the feedback! You need to water the seeds so they grow into plants and then eat the fruits. Press space on the crank of the well to get water and then walk over to the seeds and water them (space). When you are tired, go to your house's door and enter by pressing space. When a plant has fruits, harvest them with the down key. As you already found out, the bush can be used to hide with space key.

Little Mouse Planet by Frodewin 2017-05-01T01:24:55Z

@simonhutchinson if the cheese tree is large enough you can harvest and eat with cursor down key.

Alone by mhaton 2017-05-08T20:59:58Z

I like the black and white ambiente and the music. I also like point-and-click adventures, but I was a bit confused by the different key controls, for example when I had to use mouse click or space depending on the action.

WRAP by lightblub 2017-04-25T19:46:57Z

Nice game, I played it through all levels to the end!

A Brief Retreat by Jakob Willforss 2017-05-03T22:39:23Z

The graphics style is nice, but it took me some time to figure out what objects are there (the empty hole looked like a basket to me :-) Game seems to be not very forgiving - at my first try, I immediatly starved to death. At my second try, I mastered to get food and tried to solve some of the puzzles (like building an axe.. but I never got mine done)

The Land We Must Take (La Terre qu'il nous faut conquérir) by kavehes 2017-05-03T22:27:59Z

Played it against myself, very innovative idea! I had some troubles understanding the user interface (for example it took me some time to find out I had to press the ending turn button). Nice visualization of the small world theme.

Cat Ed by Fedor 2017-04-26T08:11:52Z

Nice! Your game explains why a cat suddenly jumps onto a planet (this happens in my game where you play a mouse :-). What development system did you use to make your game?

Little Eco Planet by Wheerd 2017-05-01T21:27:18Z

Nice idea for a game, the tutorial is very informative. I like the cute graphics. In the tutorial I felt that I had to learn a lot for playing the game, puzzling afterwards through desert planet was a bit less interesting then.

Harry Inks Shrinks by Oxlander 2017-05-03T22:11:15Z

Made with Stencyl, awesome! I made [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/little-mouse-planet) with [Scratch](scratch.mit.edu) (also a drag and drop block based programming language). Your game idea is very innovative and funny! I don't mind that the game is not complete. Your graphics are nice, but you could have drawn the player in a top down view to better fit the environment. The music track is a bit too repetitive for my liking. I first tried to run the game on game jolt, butthere the loading screen never stopped. Not sure if this is because of my ad blocker or a different problem. I tried afterwards with the version on Stencyl, this one worked well. I played the game through to the end :-)

Eine Kleine Insektmusik by davidthelazar 2017-05-01T21:12:02Z

Awesome set up, very funny, but the strategy to survive a song is too simple. Probably the vibrating hammers are giving away too much information. Without the vibration indicator (or a much shorter notice), one would need to predict the hammers based on the music.

Mind The Gap (First Ludum Dare) by Izunah 2017-05-01T21:06:00Z

Very interesting idea, but hard to play. Took me some times to learn the controls. The graphis look very interesting, it would be nice to have a story explaining what you are and why you are here being bullied by red people defending yourself with a hook. I would also appreciate an easier way to switch sides.

ZEUS VS MOLES by Fouralex 2017-05-01T21:39:34Z

Great graphics, interpretation of the small world theme was well done. The music reminded somehow of a martial arts game, which was a bit irritating since I was expecting to a lightning throwing god. In the beginning I kicked a mole over and over until I learned that they are dead at first strike.

A Small Hell by psychead 2017-05-04T23:24:16Z

Great! I have seen a lot of games with a small round world (including [my own one](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/little-mouse-planet)), so I am happy to see a triangular world implemented. I have not expected the hell to be a graveyard though, but since I have never been to hell I'm not qualified to judge this :-). The dialog on the bottom seemed to be a bit dislocated from the NPC that was asked, perhaps it would be possible to use a speechbubble.

Draw a Small World by ryan 2017-05-17T10:57:44Z

I'm not going to post my result here, because I didn't drew it nicely. I like the approach of decompising the scene. Your submission revives the old game vs. play discussion, I think it is "play": “Play is the aimless expenditure of exuberant energy” Friedrich Schiller

Obots: Robotica (asset pack only) by SeoungLance 2017-05-20T07:53:36Z

Great graphics, the fact that there is no game makes me fantasizing what the gameplay could have been. I could not find information about the asset's license, could you pack this into the readme file pls?

1964 World's Fair Engineer by Lone Spelunker 2017-05-17T09:20:40Z

Awesome graphics, the small world theme is well and innovatively addressed. It is an awesome results, even more so for a compo entry. Playing the game was a bit difficult for me, because I could not figure out if I should optimize for a low results (so not to rise the bar too high for the next round), on research points or money. So I felt a bit lost when selecting and discarding the cards. Regarding the sourcecode, I think there should be more than just the view source possibility, but putting a zip file for download is totally acceptable.

BUS DRIVER by Rombus 2017-04-27T23:35:15Z

I love this game! The graphics are very cute and the music is fitting. It is kind of a snake game, but the new theme is very refreshing!

Aquarium king election by boorik 2017-05-15T21:16:33Z

Awesome idea! I also love the graphics, and the sound, but the music was straining my nerves a bit after some time. The overall task to have all this animals voting is a bit too large in my opinion, I would have prefered shorter levels with fewer animals which you have to sole until you go to the next level.

Tiny Ranger by Crimid 2017-05-01T20:57:21Z

I love the music and the graphics. I also had fun playing the game for some minutes, but I did not feel the small world theme to be especially addressed. The controls seemed to be a bit unprecise, my jumps had different height. I could not find an indicator of my health points (I played the web version). When I died, the figure disappeared, but I did not know how to restart.

Le Petit Shooter by danisson 2017-05-20T09:55:06Z

It's a very nice game. It's fun to play it.

I Want To Explore by joekinglake 2017-05-01T21:46:06Z

The graphics implemented the small world theme very well, but the dark and limited graphics didn't invite me to play for an extended time. I liked the retro sound, although its a bit repetetive after some time.

A Hard to Control Fox by JLowry 2017-05-20T09:47:49Z

The fox is hard to control ;-) Actually not that hard, after a couple of times playing I managed to win the game. This could be a nice minigame in a greater context, currently things like a story, multiple levels, etc. are missing.

The Little Astronaut by zyglab 2017-04-25T20:46:52Z

I could not find your game, but I think I made a similar one. Only that I have a mouse instead of an astronaut and there is a big cat instead of robots. Here is the link, if you are interested: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/little-mouse-planet Where can I play your game?

Gravity Trails by electr1ca 2017-05-03T23:02:13Z

Simple game, but nice to play! The game is well designed by starting with simple planet hopping, then introducing spikes, then rotating planets and stars... and then I died. Thanks for adding safe points I used them a lot :-)

Tinytown by kitijengames 2017-05-21T09:45:48Z

Awesome! Found this much to late, would have loved to give a rating! To my knowledge there are at least two more LD38 games made with Scratch btw, [Happy Little Guys](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/happy-little-guys) from [Smunders](https://scratch.mit.edu/users/smunders/) and [Little Mouse Planet](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/little-mouse-planet) from [me](https://scratch.mit.edu/users/frodewin/).

I played your game just today, awesome idea! The idea is awesome and the graphics are so cute! I had some problems understanding the use of the magnifying glass though. While I have to click people to feed them, the magnifying glass needs to be hovered over the monster, not clicked because this removes it. Since the effect of killing the monster takes some time, it is very hard to determine if one is using the glass correctly or not. Moreover, I would recommend to reduce the game time, since the score anyway mostly depends on your action in the last 20 seconds.

My Very Own World by SpaceSparkle 2017-05-07T21:42:12Z

Very nice graphics and presentation, showing the small world on a map is great! The game reminds me of civilization (meant as a compliment!). The players' avatars are a bit too similar, took me some time to understand the user interface. The audio is good, but it probably didn't need to be looped. For example the beginning of a round could have been indicated with a melody piece followed by silence/just UI sounds.

Wasteland Instincts by V_V 2017-04-24T21:11:50Z

I finally made it through the wasteland, but the chords still ring in my ears! It was easy for me to distinguish the chords, but hard to find the way and to figure out what to do. I like the game idea!

Desktop Adventure by Gama Croma 2017-05-19T13:26:38Z

Nice take on the platformer theme! The folder warp is very innovative, you could have used more different files though. Carefully chosen the filenames could tell a story.

Small World: Green Valley by ClassicFire 2017-04-27T23:04:16Z

Awesome to see another Scratch game here! I downloaded it and played it with the Scratch offline editor, but I did not know what to do after I got the two coins and bought the land.

LD42 — Running out of space

Warp Tunnel by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2018-08-24T20:03:14Z

I played the game, it went well but I failed at the boss. The fixed size of the game screen makes it very small on my 4K display, but it was well playable. The music is a bit dissonant, but is a very catchy tune, fitting the game. The used instruments reminded me of playing Ultima VII, some color schemes you used even amplified that. I know this is a very odd thing to say comparing a space shooter to a story-driven RPG, but that was how it felt. On some screens the number and density of opponents was overwhelming, but since the ship is quite sturdy I survived through that screens by just firing as much as possible. Although the ship showed signs of damage I was missing a healthbar giving exact status about damage. I also had the feeling that the rotating green projectiles not always hit me dispite having touched me, probably the collision detection is a bit off here, but hard to say since it is a fast paced game most of the time. I'm sorry I cannot rate your game because I did not submit something this time.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Infinite Space (C64) by Madbeagle 2020-10-14T19:31:49Z

Awesome! Has the right look and feel! Great work! Do you have made some other games for C64?

Infinite Space (C64) by Madbeagle 2020-10-14T19:32:57Z

I just went to your itch.io page, the answer is obviously yes!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Krakonsequence by JudgeZedd 2021-05-10T22:18:37Z

I was positively surprised after watching the video - nice job on both! I won the game although I was not sure if I did well until the end.

LD55 — Summoning

Sumi & Portia: Rescue Service '55 by jpbash 2024-05-26T19:38:26Z

Great game! I'm not so sure if I understood everything though. I elaborated a technique where I port the citizens to the roofs, avoiding cascading crashes in columns with citizens. Then I send them to the portal one after each other. But in a later level portia was on fire and then died I suppose? Without her I couldn't do anything because eventually everything else burned down. Could I have saved Portia or avoid her catching fire?

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Tombagotchi by TerraCottaFrog 2018-04-24T14:29:35Z

When playing, my Tombagotchi was immediately called into a tournament, which confused me a bit. I figured out how to use the three keys afterwards, although I don't use the 3 a lot. I must admit that I'm not a fan of these rudimentary interfaces, but this is authentic to the tamagotchi interface so it must be that way :-) The trainings for speed and dexterity require skill, while you cannot fail in strength, is this correct? BTW, I'm still playing.

Grantchester Meadows by Laguna 2018-04-24T10:29:23Z

Great and fun game. I actually thought about making a combination of cookie clicker and tower defense myself, but I decided otherwise. I like the graphics a lot, I had a bit of quarrels with the interface. I first thought that buying knights increases the defense, but later I found out that the two parts are mostly seperated, only connected by money. Playing it for the second time I did not die anymore, in fact it became quite easy once I had certain investments done. There is also the possibility to wait with the attack and automatically gather money during this time, I guess this is not intented? Otherwise one could just wait indefinitely to get enough funds.

Advance Cookwares by Aurel300 2018-04-24T06:53:34Z

I defeated the cactus! The scorpions got me, it took me too long to get my burger ready. In the fighting I had a bit of a problem to aim at enemies because of the info overlays. The caravan can go off road, is that on purpose?

Zombie Soccer by JackLeHamster 2018-04-24T11:01:24Z

Just realized after three goals that I can knock out zombies by shooting at them. Dribbling mostly forward while evading proved to be the strategy that is working best for me. I like the game, but I think it would work better with just some sounds from soccer/zombie genre.

Spaceloop by smilewood 2018-04-29T21:50:51Z

Took me some time to explore the game: So first I though I couldn't jump over the obstacles or onto high platforms until I found out that I can multi-jump :-) makes sense, why should I need to be on ground to jump in space! I did then very well and had several loops when I fell off the bottom of the world - this did hurt a bit. I would have wished for a small radar scrren in the corner showing me where I am in relation to the ship. A small idea for improvement: the (re)start and loop buttons should be able to be activated via space key - otherwise on ehas to switch between keyboard and mouse whenever a button appears on the screen.

Harvest Rune by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2018-04-24T06:36:07Z

This game has nice graphics and the gameplay is incredibly complex! Did not expect this from a game made in three days, now I know why you worked on it until end of the jam! The sound is a bit repetitive, but fitting to a farmer's life :-) I first thought I can play the game without the tutorial, although having read the description on the game page I had no idea what to do. The tutorial enlightened me then. Took me some time to figure out that I have to use the hoe twice on a patch. This is an awesome game, however the Windows version had some technical issues on my system (Win10, 4K screen, 250% scaling): 1. the game started with a too small screen window, but after rescaling the window I could see everything. 2. the game crashed once after I clipped some plants.

CityDefense by JOrbits 2018-04-29T21:39:23Z

Really enjoyed the game, played it until I won and then a little longer. I had the feeling that the missile tower I bought was a bad investment, the laser turrents were much faster in killing the enemies and the missiles often found their target already destroyed. The missile explosion on an enemy seems to be a bit too early, which amplifies this effect. The music loop is simple, but fitting and I was fine listening to it for the time playing. I'm not so sure about the novelty of the theme, because games like Dune II already came with the builder / tactical combat combination, the two components fit well together!

Travis Beacon Teaches Fighting by niksg 2018-04-29T21:56:55Z

Awesome combination of a typing game with a boxing game! I also like how the rhythm of the music is incorporated in the speed of the characters. I didn't have too much time to look at the graphics but I found it odd to do such sophisticated fighting out in the rough grass instead in the box ring.

Court Invaders by Robber 2018-04-24T13:18:53Z

This genre crossover is amazing. From looking at the preview I thought this was easy. I was totally wrong! Looking at the balls, getting the timing right and aiming is very challenging (in a positive way). I had troubles getting my avatar to use the correct side, sometimes he played a backhand also the ball was clearly on the forehand side. When I died in level two, this came as a big surprise to me, a feedback would be good here.

Flappy Typing by Frodewin 2018-04-23T15:04:04Z

@Jacoder23 thanks a lot for your feedback. If I would have had more time, I would have definitely worked on the audio. For now I can only fix the bug with the music restart, beyond that I cannot make any changes until the compo voting is done. I might make a post compo version later.

Flappy Typing by Frodewin 2018-04-23T18:26:56Z

@SeaHam did you try the web version? It might run better locally, but for this you need to get the C64 VICE emulator. This is probably too much effort for playing my game, but on the other end it enables to play a lot of good old games :-)

Flappy Typing by Frodewin 2018-04-24T05:32:15Z

@__init__.py That was meant on purpose :-) , thanks for your feedback and playing the game!

Flappy Typing by Frodewin 2018-04-27T21:33:05Z

It's mostly the tools, I made some poorly written code in assembler (rasterline interrupt) and C (game code), compiled with cc-65, made music with goattracker, packed everything together with exomizer, put that into a webversion of VICE - if these tools would have been available in the 80ies we could have had 1 hour game jams with the C64. What I find amazing is that the hardware from that era is still good for some games today.

Treated the text advaneture part like a text adventure first and was heavily confused. After a restart and closer look at your screenshot I understood the game and made the points easily. Then the game announced that the bug is fixed and we can go back to graphics mode and I got a Windows message that the Godot engine has crashed. I think this is a real bug but it was funny in this situation after this moment. I really envy you about your idea - this is a great combination of incompatible genres and good storyline around it, thanks for the game!

Horror House With Mickey and TED! by PUARSLIBURF 2018-04-23T20:29:30Z

Awesome game, but took me some time to figure out the controls. In the beginning I thought Mickey stands in a puddle of blood. After I figured out how to play, it was very logical, although the scrollwheel interface needs getting used to. I absolutely love the music of the game, how did you compose this to be so awesome? I also love the graphics, but I'm a retro fanboy, so that's nothing to wonder about. Doing the fights with the zombies was a bit cumbersome, also sometimes you could attack them diagonally, sometimes not.

Horror House With Mickey and TED! by PUARSLIBURF 2018-04-24T13:08:00Z

Thanks! I just downloaded it from http://codeminion.com/blogs/maciek/2008/05/cgmusic-computers-create-music/ and it ran without asking for DLLs under Windows 10.

Karaoke Ninja by GastricSparrow 2018-04-29T22:35:28Z

Tried it with singing mostly failed - but that's not due to your game :-) Awesome combination Karaoke game and puzzler, could solve a couple of level with mostly random sounds.

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-24T05:52:07Z

Awesome game, nice idea and great graphics and sound! The voice acting was very good, but the animation of the characters moves the lips a bit too long, if you synchronize this it would be perfect! Is there a visual clue about the current chain? I was too busy trying to survive and could not find one. The game was a bit too hard for me, could not get any chains done, but that's because I am a lousy gamer :-)

Bullet Heck by equa 2018-04-24T06:11:44Z

Awesome combination of themes! The controls were a bit hard to learn for me, since I am on a german keyboard (similar layout to english one, but y and z are switched). But after I figured it out I had quite some fun dodging bullets, running from goblins and getting lots of precious treasures!

Erglow by benbusby 2018-04-23T20:38:24Z

Awesome idea, I especially was overwhelmed by the first part jumping onto the button. The latter part however was mainly me dying, I would have wished for another checkpoint inbetween. After all I used to "save" in choose your own adventure books a lot ;-)

Stutter by Jisam 2018-04-29T22:26:14Z

The concept sound very interesting, but I could not catch a word... probably that should be the experience. Getting off the desk was almost impossible for me without falling, was I supposed to do that or should one stay on the desk?

The Minstrel of the Kings by Jacoder23 2018-04-23T13:04:01Z

I spent some time on the first page where I had to scroll to get the options - probably I should have read the instructions :-). Nevertheless, the scrolling, at least with my mouse's wheel, was quite cumbersome since it required a lot of turns to get the text to move. This is a pure technical issue which could be easily fixed for a post-compo-version. The music is nice, that was what I expected by your avatar. I like the combination of the two game mechanics, but the action parts where you had to hit space were a bit underrepresented and basically easy to complete.

Cyclevania by Allen Oliver 2018-04-29T22:12:51Z

Nice combination of themes, though I agree with the previous comments that multiple speeds for acceleration/braking would be a nice addition. I like the portal at the end, although you seem to lose the key when dying, while the text still says that I have one key.
