LD38 — A Small World

Little Asteroid by Wevel 2017-05-07T16:24:59Z

Addictive and ambitious! Good job. Did encounter an issue the first time around where the first refinery I built in the tutorial couldn't be connected to my space port (due to its position), which meant I couldn't advance through the tutorial any more (even after building a different refinery), but when I restarted and got it working I had a good time :) Solid concept, could obviously use some prettying up and polish, but this is Ludum Dare after all and I'm not exactly one to talk about having non-awful art...

Nice work!

Dr. Plumb by phi 2017-05-07T16:10:41Z

Neat little game, bit of an erratic difficulty curve, but otherwise pretty good!

Had some issues loading it at first, not sure why. Took a few refreshes for it to load properly, but once it had everything worked fine

A small world by CoderDozer 2017-05-07T17:12:04Z

Very cute :) Not exactly a game, but appreciate the effort nonetheless, and I totally get not having time to do more. Hope you have time next event!

A View from Above by OfficialCodeNMore 2017-05-15T05:48:34Z

I'm concerned. Also, goats.

Nice work, good to see something wacky and interesting

Exploitation by Jimbly 2017-05-07T16:50:04Z

Nice concept, could use a little more polish, but this is Ludum Dare after all!

I'd love to see this with a bit more work - being able to check on the status of colonies from elsewhere, for example, or upgrade your ship. But to me that's the essence of a good jam game - It's a starting point that leaves you wanting more. I hope you keep working on it and take it further now the event's over!

Cloud Garden by dwemthy 2017-05-07T16:28:48Z

Certainly very... different! I had a bit of an issue where once I reached a certain height (you can climb incredibly quickly by just frantically clicking and jumping up the side of what you're placing), my camera completely inverted (i.e. my normal camera had everything upside-down). I'm not sure if it made the experience more trippy or less.

Pixlets by MaggardJosh 2017-05-07T17:01:47Z

Help I can't stop.

It'd be nice to get a little more feedback on the return on the different pixlets, but I guess working that out is part of the game :) The audio is what going insane sounds like, but they're such adorable little guys that I welcome the madness. Great work, super addictive and an impressive amount of polish for a compo entry!

Hi Pluto! by nekoballs 2017-05-07T16:07:00Z

Simple and effective :) Good fun! I found once I muted the slightly ear-piercing sound effects and stuck on some relaxing piano music it was actually incredibly relaxing to play. Good job!

Naarrow by Ace17 2017-05-07T16:32:31Z

Very interesting! Fantastic atmosphere and fun to play, if let down a little by the controls, but then I'm also terrible at platformers, so perhaps they were fine. Great job!

Alone Together by Artylo 2017-05-08T08:25:51Z

I'm slightly freaked out by encountering another Matthew with a black and white Game Maker compo entry with Alone in the title (even if yours looks tons better than mine).

Really atmospheric and intriguing! Nice work.

Slimes in Panic by KayZ 2017-05-07T17:23:00Z

Fun little game :) Reminds me very much of the old Settlers games (and that's far from a bad thing) I can tell you were going somewhere very cool with this, and I know the pain of running out of time working on a concept you're getting into. I hope at some point you find the time to pick this back up again, as it could be really good!

Alone by mhaton 2017-05-07T08:25:49Z

@warbzz Thanks :)

@Inabox Wobble wobble <3

@Ace17 The statue has to go somewhere, but after that... who knows :) (side note: If playing the HTML5 version it is actually harder to tell when the game ends, the desktop version fades out and closes itself, but I can't close it in HTML5. Should've put a little 'Fin' card at the end. If your screen's black - you're done!)

@brandann Ew, corpses.

Alone by mhaton 2017-05-08T08:14:04Z

@ryte2byte I may or may not have made that decision based on how stuck the first few people to try it got >.> I'm considering coming back to this as I had a blast making it, but had to cut some corners on the puzzle(s) to get it done in time for the compo. I'm not a huge fan of the complete trial and error @quadtree mentions that's required in some cases, or having to right click to close boxes, so there's definitely a bit of polish needed there :)

@randomhuman I'm actually more a sound & design guy than I am a programmer or artist, and you're super right. The problem with feeling more confident in my audio abilities is I have a bad habit of doing sound last and running out of time. I actually have exactly what you suggested recorded (an echoey footstep), and had trouble implementing it in a way that didn't suck (back to the slightly iffy programming skills) in the time I had left. Lesson learned for next time :)

@akirassasin Strange, but I hope the downloadable version worked for you! I've not used the HTML5 export before, so it's probably got some weird bugs to it that I didn't catch :( Sorry about that!

Thanks for the kind words folks!

Bee World by InaBox 2017-05-03T17:11:23Z

Very relaxing and extremely pretty, a nice spin on a classic :) Oh also, 740 xD

RSV Resourcer by Brandon Diaz 2017-05-07T16:15:59Z

Ambitious! Always good to see a game with lofty goals in such a short period of time. Obviously you had a lot more ideas than you were able to get in with the time, but you should be proud of what you managed to accomplish :)

The computer generated voice over is a nice touch, and there are a lot of interesting ideas here, I hope you continue working on it now the compo's over and see what you can do with it!

Starbob by Gato 2017-05-07T17:18:20Z

A really interesting concept, if a bit tricky! The physics felt a little bit off in places, and the amount of times a flying box hit what i was trying to build got a little bit frustrating, but it's a very different concept to anything else I've seen on here, and strangely compelling! Good job

Barter by kpded 2017-05-07T16:20:49Z

Interesting concept, I was starting to get into it, but sadly kept encountering the bug people have previously mentioned where the 'Bye' button stops working. I believe it may have to do with a tutorial message triggering at the same time as talking to someone, but I'm not 100% on that one. Kudos for attempting a tutorial in a jam though rather than just typed out instructions, it's a nice touch that often gets missed (I know I always skip it with the time limit!)

Forget by zchen 2017-05-07T16:38:22Z

Weirdly haunting! It's like guess who, but 3D and...oddly worrying

Great job :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

Inefficient Plasma Weapon by schizoid2k 2017-08-11T16:38:45Z

A nice little twist on the classic asteroids-esque gameplay :) Good job!

The Fallen by CliffracerX 2017-08-11T16:49:00Z

Something interesting here, but could use a little more clarity in the instructions. The controls themselves were a bit lost in the wall of text (even when repeated at the bottom), and I had basically no idea what some things meant - for example when building it says it gives EU/t, I'm assuming it's something over time, but I have zero idea what EU is! It could probably also use some more clarity in how certain resources are displayed, for example ore costs are listed as a number, but ore itself is displayed entirely graphically, which makes it hard to see at a glance how much you actually have.

Other than those, it seems interesting! I'd be interested to see what you make of it if you continue :) Good job!

Powerless by g-o 2017-08-11T17:02:01Z

Difficult, but weirdly hypnotic. I like the concept of losing mechanics as you lose power, but it could stand to be a *bit* more gradual! All in all though, an interesting game (and props for making it without the internet to call on, I know I couldn't... although I also couldn't build my own framework!) Good job!

LD39:Running out of energy by johnnwfs 2017-08-11T16:56:56Z

Nice little game :) I enjoyed how I had the advantage going up, but my opponent was better at going downwards (although not being able to actively speed up my descent was a bit frustrating at times). The movement of the star field in the background could probably use a little tweaking as it seemed sometimes a bit disconcerting for no real reason. Neat concept anyway, and weirdly compelling to keep playing. Good job!

Power Tripping: Keeping It Cool by Sarah 2017-08-12T15:58:58Z

Thank you for helping me to realise my life-long dream of being a fridge.

Nyctophobia by mhaton 2017-08-04T10:01:17Z

Thanks @edmond00 :) I was concerned it is a bit overly difficult, but didn't really have time for much tuning. It's technically possible (I at least checked that), but the amount of time you'd probably have to put into it to complete the game by memorising the route and executing it perfectly is way beyond what most are willing to put into playing a LD game!

If anyone actually manages to beat it (there's only actually the one level) - props :)

Back Home by Simone 2017-08-11T16:15:08Z

Great work for your first jam! I enjoyed it!

Drain by morphine 2017-08-11T16:28:40Z

Wow! Extremely atmospheric, I love the main mechanic of having to move around power to succeed. The child voice synth was impressive (I'm assuming it's not yours because that'd be nuts, but still), and I really liked the feel of the thing. Didn't actually finish it due to falling off edges in the dark, but that's...the game. Good job!

Winter has come by GistNoesis 2017-08-11T16:35:49Z

I feel oddly nostalgic for hugely old browser games. Not much to it, but 10 hours of work for what's here is pretty good. Good job!

Cities by litill 2017-08-11T16:05:26Z

I like the style, very atmospheric :) I had a bit of trouble with the controls, but that's probably just me being bad. Good job!
