Creative and interesting. I had some interface trouble - it was hard to figure out how to build things and connect them, with buttons serving several functions depending on gun mode, and there were some undocumented bits (like mouse wheel to scroll through building options). I was unable to shoot things near me - they had to be 5-6 feet away before the bullets would actually hurt them. I like the art and the premise, and it worked well for me.

Very well made! A really complex game made in such a short time. At first it was a bit overwhelming, but after a while I got the hang of it and survived longer and longer.

Graphics are really cool, I like the style!

- It could use some music, and maybe some enemy-audio so you can hear them coming. - In the beginning it is really overwhelming, it is hard to figure out what to do. I would've liked to see a buildup in complexity.

Overall very well done!!!

That is amazing you made this in 24 hours! The controls where a bit of hurdle, but once I got a hold of them it was a fun survival experience! It does a good job of making the player feel empowered once the first generator is filled and an ammo factory is made. Overall great submission.

tinfoilboy 2017-08-01 03:38

Nice job for a single day! I do have a few concerns though, the beginning parts of the game aren't very well documented, as for instance, in the help page, it talks about holstering your weapon, but nothing about how to do that. Also, the gun seems useless at closer ranges with the enemies, as it does seemingly zero damage. There's some polish to be done, but for a single day, this is a great creation. With some work, this could be a really cool game. Continue this!

captaindreamcast 2017-08-01 04:26

The graphics are really good, gameplay takes a little time to get into, but works. The survival stuff (with the generators) is pretty good already, but I feel the combat part could still use some polish.

And I know everyone and their mom already said it, but that's really a lot for a single day! Amazing!

uzyfeo 2017-08-01 11:42

I could not really understand how to play this one. You could have put the controls on the site at least :/

Oh well... From what I got, game looks nice, combat is a little clunky and thats where I ended, as I couldn't understand how to do other stuff :(

jolix 2017-08-01 13:42

24 hours?! Just Wow. The concept is creative and it is actually quite fun once you know how to play. It was a bit hard to figure out the controls and the combat in the beginning.

I think this has a lot of potential if you decide to polish it one day.

@uzyfeo: I have put the controls up on the game page, if you want to take another whack at it. I meant to put those in the help screen, but I'm not sure if updating that now would be 'legal' and it's probz fine for it to just be on the game page.

To everyone else: Thanks for your support! I wasn't expecting this many positive comments about the graphics or the building system; I figured there'd be more nitpickiness or difficulty in learning the mechanics. :P

Tried playing for a while but couldn't figure out how to build things or what was going on, I turned some bits of the main grid thing green, but then what? Seems theres a couple of bugs with shooting the zombies, sometimes just seems to go straight through them and sometimes your arm seems to get stuck on also. Just a suggestion but as its unity and you are keen to get as many people to play as possible maybe try putting a WebGl version up on itch also. Unity WebGl seems to work pretty well these days at least for 2d games.

gris 2017-08-01 19:39

24h... You should be proud! Here are some suggestions: Music: Definitely needs some, even if it's some crap just to start with. Better tutorial: Even though you explain pretty well what the player needs to do there needs to be more feedback yo know you're doing things properly. Collision Boxes: For some reason I wasn't hitting the zombies with all the bullets.

Overall a great accomplishment. Congrats!

crass-sandwich 2017-08-01 20:29

solid game! not my cup of tea genre wise, but it's well executed. some things it could use:

- better tutorialization - music - an indicator for where your base is so you don't lose it

cliffracerx 2017-08-01 21:49

To everyone: I'm working on the WebGL build (Unity's having a bad time of it so it might be a while ¯\\__(ツ)__/¯), and fixing some of the other critical/game-breaking bugs (e.g, bullets not working for some reason) and generally trying to make sure the game is as accessible as possible.

There's a proper list of controls on the Help screen now, which I'm hoping will help make sure people can actually play the game.

sublustris 2017-08-02 06:07

Well done! But you should add some ingame instructions at the beginning. It's hard to understand what to do.

lukezaz 2017-08-03 06:20

As I said on Discord, this is some surprising progress for 24 hours of work! All things considered, it is very well made for how quickly it was put together, and it shows.

Most problems have been pointed out already, but I will of course note two things, those being that I don't know what the Sterilizer charge was for, and that if you right-click the same building twice, and *then* click another building, the game will crash.

xmiwah 2017-08-03 10:26

Huh I switched to build something but cannot switch back to my weapon? Anyway it's interesting although I'm not sure what the building blocks will do (i build somewhere randomly). Btw try to make the map smaller next time. I'm kinda an explorer and it was so lonely to walk around.

klianc09 2017-08-04 15:03

A lot of great things have already been said, I'm just gonna add some specifics.

I was completely confused when I started first time, because I first clicked "Play" and missed the "Help" screen. Then when I finally knew how to do things, I still didn't know what to do next. I tried building every building and connecting them to the pod, in the hope this would transfer the energy. Took me a long time to realize that you need a Generator for everything. That should be more apparent to "Build Generators First". Switching between three modes, was a horror and really cumbersome to get right, I was always reloading instead of bringing up the build menu. In my opinion it's cool that one has to be careful not to shoot/destroy own buildings. However I think interacting with buildings should be a dedicated button that is always available, like e.g. right-click. And connecting buildings should just be click and drag, I don't understand why I have to click 3 times just to connect two buildings. Also it wasn't clear how much, if any or which direction energy was flowing. I was having fun, until the last battery of the escape pod seemed to just not want to fill up, no matter what I tried. Also selecting a building should be easier, like selecting it with the mouse from a menu, or just display all available buildings while scrolling through it. Finding and building the correct building should be no issue within the heat of battle. The map felt a bit too empty, it wasn't really exciting exploring it. Would be cool if there was a reason to build stuff somewhere else than right at the escape pod.

It has a lot of content for 24h, but it's very rough around the edges. IMHO Audiovisual feedback and polishing came a tad too short :)

fledgeling93 2017-08-05 20:11

That's a lot for 24 hours! Nicely done, lacks some sounds (though he gunshot sound is too loud for my taste), but overall not bad. Controls are a bit confusing, but the possibilities are mind-boggling. It's cool that zombies are not the only ore suppliers, it was a nice surprise to actually be rewarded by getting away from the pod charger. The most confusing part is how electricity works in this game and what sterilizer actually does. Still great entry, good job!

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-07 10:51

Very very nicely done! I'd like some slightly more simplified controls. I love love love building games *and* defense games, and this scratched both my itches, thank you! <3 You should be super proud for finishing before the 24 hours!

deathray 2017-08-10 02:11

Really nice graphics, but web version seems to be unplayable.

cliffracerx 2017-08-10 06:30

@deathray What seems to be the problem? What're your system specs and the likes? I'd like to know, even if I can't fix it; being able to put up a PSA that it's busted on certain systemtypes would be helpful.

baby-dino-herd 2017-08-10 15:13

Really interesting take on the theme. I especially like the character graphics and animation; they're a very nice touch. I do wish the controls were a little easier to understand; I found that I didn't have a lot of feedback on what I was trying to do, and I wanted to be able to explore even further.

bog13 2017-08-11 13:00

I didn't understand well how to play and in particuliar how to connect the thing I built !

mhaton 2017-08-11 16:49

Something interesting here, but could use a little more clarity in the instructions. The controls themselves were a bit lost in the wall of text (even when repeated at the bottom), and I had basically no idea what some things meant - for example when building it says it gives EU/t, I'm assuming it's something over time, but I have zero idea what EU is! It could probably also use some more clarity in how certain resources are displayed, for example ore costs are listed as a number, but ore itself is displayed entirely graphically, which makes it hard to see at a glance how much you actually have.

Other than those, it seems interesting! I'd be interested to see what you make of it if you continue :) Good job!

joebeard 2017-08-16 16:52

I played the WebGL build and it seemed to work OK, although it took me a little while to find the gun. A wee bit more contextual help might have made it easier to understand. The lighting effects were very cool, it definitely fit the theme of the competition.

2017-08-29 14:33

Very complex game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHHnWvZj4oQ
