This took me back to the good ole text based days! Really like the balancing act, think I can win in a few more goes :)

falk-bruskeland 2017-07-31 14:40

Cool game!

hhsaez 2017-07-31 14:44

I like the balance of the game. Well done!

cakemonitor 2017-07-31 14:45

Initially this felt quite confusing - in particular I wasn't sure whether temperature had anything to do with power consumption so I didn't know whether to try increasing the temperature. Also, I couldn't tell whether there anything I can do about degradation or if that just a time limit on the game. I played multiple times and eventually got the power, research, and food stats all increasing while running on just mining (after wood & oil had run out) but the maintenance stat ran out long before I could plant 1 tree, let alone 1000! I think you could help players learn by slowing the speed of the game and only introducing text and buttons as they become relevant; i.e. once you have enough research to mine coal for the first time that is when the topic of mining should be first shown to the player - including the costs and benefits. Still, this was an interesting game that felt engaging to play. It reminded me of A Dark Room :)

Could use a balancing pass to be honest - it's too easy to run out of food (and humans) and then you're stuck for as long as you have power. Or at least another failure state in that case, as you can't do anything else than wait to fail.

Small things - could use a way to restart or stop the game without reloading the whole page.

bit confused about it saying suddenly i ran out of power, but when i look at the background it says my power is 95? hmmm!

chrissiq 2017-08-01 04:12

This is very fun, but very challenging. I couldn't manage to beat it, just got to do some coal mining and not quite over the hump. But I really like it. The concept is unique, I like the HTML game format, it's very different than the standard Unity games we always see and I just really like that :)

The constant need for more; is a driving force that pushes us all to eat our nearest and dearest coworkers.

fawaz-strawberry 2017-08-01 23:46

I was having fun playing this, although i could've used more guidance on how to access all the other options. The game however takes a different approach to most other games and I quite enjoy that aspect. I also found it interesting that cannablism was happening when I had hungry humans. Overall fun game!

I liked it and will be playing it again after the rating is all done. The text to the right of the buttons could use some formatting love. When I run out of power you have an alert popup that says you ran out of power but when you look at your power you see that its a positive number. Seems like you update the power internally before showing it to the player. Other than that I really liked it!

Oof! This one's tough! After a few attempts to learn the general rules, I only managed to survive until temperature=1 before running out of maintenance.

I like how it's appears to be a sort of idle-game, but with substantial time pressure added. I can't recall seeing that sort of thing before.

ellis-spice 2017-08-02 19:55

Interesting to see another clicker take on the theme. Fairly clear instructions and the balance seemed just right to provide a challenge once you start getting into it.

xel 2017-08-03 04:46

Really interesting game. The numbers move quite fast- I was usually dead before I realized what was happening. Had to play it a few times to understand how to balance everything out.

turbotfish 2017-08-03 18:40

Good dwarf fortress / old text based management games vibes :) would love to see some ascii art over this.

jake-cope 2017-08-04 01:05

Great game! I love me some incremental games and this one was especially challenging. I almost got 1 outside tree... I can't even imagine beating it in 10 minutes, but I am sure its possible. Overall nice job!

Edit: This is by far the most amount of time I have put into a Ludum Dare entry! :D

jimbly 2017-08-04 01:15

Fun little game! On about my 6th try I beat it. I kept on failing to click creater miner and turn on coal burner quick enough on 4 of the tries, seems like (at least with my 7 food/3research strategy) timing was way too tight. But, once I got past that, I managed to just barely win, which was great =). I had a little difficulty seeing what was going on, I think a little colored UI showing "+5/turn" etc next to each value showing the previous tick's change would have been very helpful.

vitasamode 2017-08-05 23:20

Interesting take on running out of power. Very applicable to the theme and quite complicated. I like it.

jaculabilis 2017-08-06 06:20

I like the resource management style, but I think the necessary information - current production/consumption rates, the various tradeoffs, and so on - were hard to understand from reading the UI. Some UI work to make the resource flow more understandable would do a lot.

Also, I planted just one tree, and it doubled into >1000 trees in just a few turns. I'm not sure if this is intended, but it means that as long as you're not on the brink of losing, you basically win as soon as you build one tree.

icylava 2017-08-08 15:45

Took me a few tries but I finally beat it. 6 farmers and 3 researchers in the beginning seemed to be the way to go.

There's really no reason not to burn your wood and oil right away, since there's no cap on the power you can hold. And so that means having wood and oil be separate has no advantage. Maybe you could make it that if your power goes above a certain threshold, the power you generate becomes less due to inefficiency. That way, you would actually have to make sure you don't burn anything when your power is too high or you burn only the wood when you are close to that threshold, so that you don't waste your resources.

Anyway, fun game, thanks for making it ;D

baby-dino-herd 2017-08-09 14:51

Really interesting take on the theme! I really like the concept, but found that it was a little difficult to read all of the relevant information with the current layout. It was an interesting puzzle to figure out the riht balance of food production!

tmpxyz 2017-08-10 11:48

interesting game, I would suggest give it a clearer visual and make the step slower, it's hard for the first-time player to follow the time speed.

schizoid2k 2017-08-11 00:36

I liked it... reminds me of the old mainframe type games I played so many years ago. I was a bit confused on what to do to at times though. I got to a point where none of the buttons were highlighted so I could not do anything... not sure if it was something I did good or bad.

I agree with others that with a few UI tweaks, and perhaps some sort of in-game instruction, this could be really cool. Congrats!

mhaton 2017-08-11 16:35

I feel oddly nostalgic for hugely old browser games. Not much to it, but 10 hours of work for what's here is pretty good. Good job!

tayopi 2017-08-18 15:08

You did a great job sticking to the theme. The game felt a bit overwhelming when being confronted with a wall of text. I would start with a few items and then increase them as the game progresses.

kromeboy 2017-08-20 16:04

Great idea, but the game could give more feedback

jason200101 2017-08-21 22:48

Nice game! The idea seems nice, but it lacks some basic stuff for games, like music. I can't really say anything about the graphics since you only used text, but the strategy involved makes up for it!

Overall, it's a great strategy game, and I'm guessing you didn't have a lot of time to create it. Good job!
