LD22 — Alone

Ydunn by Randomasta 2011-12-19T11:02:00

Matches the theme really nicely, the graphics are impressive and the music is nice too so it makes for a good 'mood' score. However, the game's a bit short and needs a bit of polish to get the 'fun' score up higher. Still, nice work overall!

Alone by Dark Acre Jack 2011-12-19T16:33:00

This game has some great graphics and fits the theme well. I also thought the audio was great for one person to have made over the course of a weekend. But for me this game was far too slow paced and after and after 10 minutes of having my slow-moving avatar follow the dots on the floor without any decisions being made by me, or my reflexes being tested, I quit the game because I was a bit bored. Still, a great example of how a very impressive looking game can be put together in a very short time. Well done.

Project Robert Sean by vrld 2011-12-20T13:56:00

Great idea. However, I took my time carefully selecting the three items I wanted to take and then as soon as I was on the island I hit space a few times and had pretty much everything - so it felt as if my initial decision hadn't mattered at all. Then I explored and found nothing new, so I tried crafting with what I had and the game crashed. So I restarted and did it all again and then when I tried crafting it just always said "Result=???" regardless of what I tried to use. I had lots of items and tried lots of combinations, but I couldn't make anything!! Then I suddenly died of starvation without having seen any hit of food on the island or in my inventory. So I think this game needs better tutorials and more logical connections of crafting items so that someone new to the game can start playing easily. However, the mood of the game is good, I think the audio is above standard for a typical LD48 and the idea fits the theme really well. Nice work.

Sinkhole by Shaun Inman 2011-12-20T13:25:00

Nice idea, and really good graphics. It would be nice if the collision detection with wall tiles was a bit more forgiving (say, when the player holds the walk left button but hits a wall tile have them 'slide' either up or down along the wall depending on their last direction of travel on the vertical. or something :)). I like that you included a work log and linked to the cellular automata algorithm - it's inspired me to have a play with this.

Space Shuttle by Wukkopi 2011-12-19T10:14:00

Great little game, easy to jump straight in to. The audio could be improved a touch but that's no big concern (and at least there *is* some audio!). The pro tips are a nice touch. Good work.

Al-one by Meedoc 2011-12-19T10:49:00

As you say it's not really a game so, personally, I wasn't really driven to persevere with the 'experience' for more than about 5 minutes (sorry!). But I like the idea and it fits the theme very well! Well done.

'malone? by Norgg 2011-12-20T16:12:00

I don't really get it. Is it just shoot the other dots? I kept dying from the 'invisible bullet' bug and other dots often didn't die when I shot them. But sometimes they did. Sometimes bullets plainly hit me and I didn't die. It could do with a scoreboard or something to make the events a bit less arbitrary. Still, not bad at all for a 48 hour effort! Congratulations on getting it this far :)

The Invention of Colour by bach 2011-12-20T15:36:00

Wonderful! It could have used more blue though :p
There should be separate voting categories for 'fun' and 'gameplay' ... this game is a lot of fun, but there's (intentionally) little-to-no gameplay to it and I would like to reflect that in my scoring.

Solitaire by mooosh 2011-12-19T14:10:00

Nice work. As you say it could use some sounds/polish - but otherwise a very nice effort.

lonely robot by ericdpitts 2011-12-19T15:54:00

Great game, I really liked this one. It would have been nice to see some more background graphics. I thought the abrupt ending was fun :)

Glibber Alone by haubna 2011-12-19T14:48:00

Quite a fun little platformer. I felt it was perhaps a touch slow paced - maybe have smaller rooms / the character move faster. Perhaps some music too to set the tone a bit. Still a good game overall though.

Abandoned by Bryanwoot 2011-12-19T16:18:00

Good game. Personally, I would like to see a little more colour - but that's just my own taste. I had to use the double-jump for almost every single jump in the game - which made the regular jump feel a little weak and useless. Well done on your first game and congratulations on completing a Ludum Dare competition entry!

Alone in Space by Vic 2011-12-20T14:39:00

Very beautiful graphics and fits the theme perfectly, but is far too dark and the torch is utterly useless because you have no independent control of it and it always points slightly too far beyond where you need it to (e.g. you walk down a corridor to where there might be a door, but you can't see if there is or not because the torch is lighting up the room beyond the door [or possibly beyond the 'not-a-door' - who knows?] and you're left bumping around in the pitch black. Either way I couldn't progress into the next room where the torch was somehow able to illuminate. And this wasn't a one off - this essentially happened at every piece of scenery in the game. What you have here isn't so much a 'game' as a 'bumping in to things simulator' ... Graphics, Theme, Mood, Innovation, etc. = 5/5; Fun = zero. Such a shame when everything else about this entry makes it one of the best I've reviewed yet!

One May Pass by binarycoder 2011-12-19T14:25:00

Superb little game, one of the best I've rated so far! :) the graphics and sound are a little basic but it doesn't detract from the fun of this game at all. Good fun and fits the theme well. Nice job!

There Can Only Be Static by cards 2011-12-19T16:44:00

This is a fun little game - although it's quite challenging from very early on. I'm not sure quite how it fits the theme of 'alone' aside from being a single-player game which has no human characters. Nice idea though :)

Don't Touch Me by mklee 2011-12-20T09:27:00

Well done on creating this in such a short time

Maze Explorers by caranha 2011-12-20T14:16:00

Great little game and I loved your ideas for different types of help you can get from the various other people in the maze (although you're not exactly 'alone' when your game specifically involves teaming up with other people ;)). It was a bit of a annoyance that if I walked into a dead-end with a helper behind me I was stuck and couldn't walk back because they blocked the path so we had to both stand there and starve - I felt that's too stubborn on their part! Still, very good work overall.

Downtown Nazi Mission by HarryTorry 2011-12-19T14:33:00

A fun game - I enjoyed it. (I don't like the name though!) Well done.

The Diary by DalsGames 2011-12-20T12:57:00

I found it to be quite buggy, but since you say it very WIP that's fair enough. The sound and music really stood out over and above most other games I've rated so far. Nice work.

One-Player Co-op by Redbone 2011-12-20T16:01:00

This is a very fun game - out of the 20+ games I've rated so far I've not wanted to keep re-playing any of the others as much as this one. Lovely simplistic graphics and the audio is ok bout could be improved with a bit of music. Great work.

The Secluded Cave by Stargoat 2012-01-09T00:15:00

Great game! Good work. ... I didn't realise I could shoot the first time I played! :p

Like a few others have said it, it could have been better if you'd had time to get the sound working and maybe add a small circle of light all around the player and perhaps have the map scroll or the pointer position update as you move so that walking around the map doesn't cause your aim to change. But overall a great entry :)

A Typical Friday Night by merthsoft 2011-12-19T11:59:00

Short and to the point. It could use a command to list all the verbs which the parser knows (To save trying "pull" then "use" then "move" and so on...). Nice work though, and congratulations on submitting your first Ludum Dare entry!

Nightmares of a Wizard by TeamEpsilon 2012-01-06T08:16:00

The download size is too large. Sorry.

Abyss by Ryan Schaefer 2012-01-06T07:52:00

Good work! Very atmospheric and fist the theme well. I also got stuck - I would suggest a checkpoint system with a button for 'return to last checkpoint' so people don't have to go back far if they die or just get stuck on the scenery. Congratulations on your first LD48 :D

Mine Shaft of Doom by miloguy 2012-01-06T08:14:00

I'm sure you're sick of hearing it by now, but: Please don't use installers!

Like others have said, I didn't like that the bullets shoot to the side of the mouse pointer, or that you get no warning that a monster is about to spawn on top of you, or that a stack of monsters will just wait right behind the door.

It was annoying to have dodged back and fourth between the crafting room and the first combat room several times and then when I first tried the next door just to avoid a swarm of monsters found it locked and needed ore to proceed!! That should have had a padlock icon on it or something to let me know I wouldn't be able to keep myself alive by diving through there like I had done with the previous (identical-looking) door.

I think a few sound effects would have gone a long way too.

Overall I can see good potential in your work but sadly I found this particular game had too many annoyances for me to be able to enjoy it.

Well done none the less :)

Quiet City by Leverpastej 2011-12-19T12:20:00

I found this game a bit confusing. it could do with visual queues to let you know where you are, and/or a map, perhaps audio queues to let you know monsters are approaching, maybe some explanation of why you're supposed to find keys for the boxes - and an explanation of what happens after you've supplied them when the screen goes black. Despite the confusion it's still an impressive little game for just a weekend - well done!

Loquere by AndyRoth 2011-12-19T15:00:00

Has potential, but is too short really. Try adding sound, music and more challenges.

Forever a-zombie by fatto 2011-12-19T11:14:00

Sorry, I can't rate this game because I don't have access to a Mac. (Although just an idea: I've seen some people capture a video of their game being played and then they provide a youtube link. Then it can still be reviewed and rated. Or a few more screen shots at least). Still - well done on getting a game created and submitted!

LD23 — Tiny World

The Wizard Delven by Polar 2012-04-23T21:22:00

I also found this game a bit frustrating as it's unclear what I'm supposed to do (even after reading the readme). But it's a nice start :) Keep up the good work I hope you're able to develop it further.

A Pale Blue Dot by ronkmonster 2012-04-23T13:53:00

This is a very fun game - and it made me want to keep playing more which is a great achievement! ... only, I eventually found out that I could just leave the ship centred and weigh down my [d] and [ctrl] keys and it spun around killing everything without need for me to apply any skill whatsoever :/

Still, great work! one of the most fun I've reviewed so far :)

Flight of the Ladybug by robcozzens 2012-04-24T08:42:00

Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare! This game is a lot of fun and always leaves me with a strong desire to play again and see if I can get that bit further :) The sounds were very feint but otherwise I think it achieves everything it tries to do very well.

Tiny Religion by dagothig 2012-04-26T07:52:00

This is a great idea and the game has really nice graphics, but even with using the help menu I couldn't get to grips with the commands e.g. I wanted to try "do summon" but it tells me only a priest can do that, so I train a priest (it says 1 priest is trained) and it still tells me only a priest can summon so I think maybe the priest needs a temple and I build one but still it tells me only a priest can do summon ... that's a bit frustrating. Also, the god's reactions flashed up too quickly so it was difficult to tell what (s)he did/did not like - maybe you could have the text appear in the log coloured green for things the god likes and red for things the god does not like. Just a few ideas. Overall it's a very nice entry. Well done :)

Sun Save World by castor 2012-04-29T16:21:00

Nice entry with good music and lighting effects. I agree with some other that it could use a little more action, but otherwise great. :)

Immunity by Waffenwars 2012-04-28T10:26:00

The learning curve was too steep for me, I read the intro screens three times but I still couldn't work out how to build any upgrades other than the green squares, then I couldn't work out why some attacks lead to my blocks being destroyed in a chain reaction while other attacks didn't. Also I left it running for a while and there didn't seem to be any clues to whether I was winning or losing! ... In short, this is definitely a game which requires a tutorial!! However, this is a great game and has excellent graphical and audio quality and a really nice approach to the theme. Good work :)

c!ph3r by frosty 2012-04-29T06:37:00

This is a great game and seems very well polished. The only criticism I'd make is that the controls feel very unresponsive - you click to move, then it beeps to acknowledge your move, the the player character takes his crouched 'I'm about to move' stance then what feels like an hour after your initial click he begins moving. That is quite frustrating in a game about accurately times moves. Also, some path-finding would have been nice so you're not forced to click in the same row or column that the player is currently standing in. Otherwise a great game :)

Tiny Journey by Evil Sandwich Studios 2012-04-28T18:25:00

A very beautiful game, great work :)
Personally, I would have preferred a short list of verb-buttons instead of having to guess which commands the game will accept. But otherwise this is great!

"The best" CCG by cantorfew 2012-04-23T20:48:00

This game is quite frustrating - I had positions 4 and 0 matching the goal, but turn after turn all my cards involved swapping either 4 or 0 with something else. I can't see any king of strategy to use to give myself better odds over this game - I seemed to be just randomly swapping cards around.

Kumiho by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-05-13T08:50:00

A really great game, I had lots of fun playing this. I nearly gave up on the third boss, but I'm glad I didn't! :) If I had to pick a negative I'd say it's not very closely related to the theme, but it's a fine entry all the same.

Pastor Mundi by Geti 2012-04-28T08:13:00

This game makes me wish Ludum Dare had a scoring category called "Potential" - if it did I would award 5 stars here without hesitation, because clearly a lot of skill and talent has gone in to this creation but as you say the gameplay isn't at all finished, there's no sound, etc. (also I can't yet see how you were going to have it fit the theme 'Tiny World'). I've scored it highly 'Overall' and in 'Graphics' (it's good to see nicely animated and textured 3D models in a LD game), but the other categories feel like they're not quite there. Yet. Hence the wish for a 'Potential' category. (After all, I think everyone's game is partly unfinished and has potential to become something more - that's the nature of a 48 hour competition!). I hope that makes sense and you think it's a fair assessment. Keep up the good work! :)

Ant, Bee, Cow, Pig and Spider BOSS by karnakgames 2012-04-23T15:18:00

I couldn't understand what to do after releasing the bee. But it's still a good fun game and nice to see an Easter Egg included ;) Great work!

Angle Isle by Rusty Moyher 2012-04-24T09:45:00

This is an awesome little game :) I got 98% of the fruit and the one I missed should have been easy to grab but I got caught in the wind which carried me to the next island before I could eat it! The ending seemed kind of sad though ... does the little bird try to fly off in search of new lands but instead finds nothing, runs out of energy, falls into the ocean and drowns?! :(

Cleansing of the tiny worlds by Scrapworks 2012-04-24T08:32:00

This is a great game and nicely stylised! :) I found it a bit difficult trying to use WASD and space _and_ the arrow keys when fighting the birdies ... I would have preferred something like: you shoot in the direction you're looking when you press space (if you have any bullets) and while you keep space held down you keep your mouth open to collect more bullets.
Anyway... good music, good graphics, good tutorial (if a bit long :p), in all this has scored more stars than anything I've rated so far

Shrink-O-Matic 9000 by GameNacho 2012-04-26T07:21:00

I think the controls are still a bit awkward... I couldn't jump if I was already moving sideways and also sometimes when I died a message flashed up but it instantly vanished because I was still pressing keys to control the character from a split-second before and this cancelled the message before I read it (I think a specific key should be used to clear down messages; one which isn't used for other controls). It's otherwise a good platformer. Well done :) A bit of audio would have been nice, and like Shackelford said, it would have been nice to see lots more use of the shrink ray... it doesn't even feature in about half of the levels which is a shame when it's the only thing in game representing the theme 'Tiny World'

(Tiny) Worlds of Illusion by madmaw 2012-04-23T13:22:00

I really enjoyed this game. It's a great idea (although I'm not convinced that it matched the theme particularly well). Still it scorec highly from me overall :)

Quaternion Nightmare by Dry Tree 2012-04-24T09:07:00

Thanks everyone for your comments :)

@tequibo It doesn't take you back to the start when you clear a level, it gives you a score multiplier and spawns even more critters so each level is tougher than the last. But yeah, there's no win condition as such - instead the goal is to just get as high a score as you can (30,000 is good, 150,000 is great) ... if I'd had time I would have added combat against the critters and ended the game with a boss fight :)

Globe by gavin5564 2012-04-24T07:42:00

This is a great game, I liked the music and the simplicity of the challenge while maintaining a sense of fun. I think the jumping could have been improved a bit (maybe only continue to climb while the player is still holding space - to allow for smaller jumps over little gaps?). Also the black background of the tunnels and the black background of uncovered squares was aesthetically a little odd - perhaps set a 'fog colour' for undiscovered areas?
Overall a great little game, well done! :)

Predominantly Tiny World by Graham Weldon 2012-04-23T13:33:00

A nice game, but a bit buggy and unpredictable (on one play through I seemed to get pushed away from the planet and all the UFOs and then the game started running at about 5 fps! on another play through it didn't register my score). Still, good work for 48 hours :)

Unterholz by wzl 2012-04-23T13:57:00

Could not get it to run - Windows 7 32bit. Error: "The type initialiser for 'AC.AL.Native.Core' threw an exception. Object reference not set to an instance of an object", then: "Unterholz has stopped working"

MyLittleWorld by guzzungo 2012-04-24T07:51:00

It wont start - after 5 minutes of installing silverlight updates it keeps telling me to enable GPU acceleration on the Silverlight plugin page. What Silverlight plugin page? I have googled for a solution to this but found nothing, looked at the settings in chrome://plugins/ and tried the game in Internet Explorer also. But after a lot of trying I simply cannot get it to run :(

Link by Dax 2012-04-28T17:55:00

This is a good game and seems very nicely put together. A little background music would be nice (but I can hardly talk - I didn't have time to include BGM in my own game!)
Good work :)

The Underground Court by caranha 2012-04-28T18:14:00

Great game - I'm not sure why people found it hard (except for the very fast cats who never give up the chase! I think they could be made slower and/or to give up after a few seconds chasing). I found if I avoided having the cats spot me in the first place then it was easy. The queen didn't die once and when I took her food supply to over 100 I gave up assuming that there is no win condition?
Overall a great entry. Well done :)

Dwindling Worlds by NiallM 2012-04-23T13:12:00

I couldn't understand what I was supposed to do, or whether I was making progress or not. I spent several minutes moveing the mouse around and clicking mouse buttons at random and the dot on the screen seemed to move a bit and change colour a bit in response - but it also seemed totally random and like I say, I couldn't tell whether it was progress or not. Maybe it would be a good idea to give the player a little more feedback about their progress, or perhaps this type of game just isn't for me. Still, good use of audio :)

Dwindling Worlds by NiallM 2012-04-24T07:11:00

So I came back to this and gave it another go, and this time I managed to complete it :D ... I think the main problem I had on my first attempt when I couldn't even complete level 1 was (despite what can be inferred from the theme being 'Tiny Worlds' and mention of worlds diminishing in the voice-over) it wasn't at all clear that I simply had to make each world grow larger until it filled the screen. Also, When it said 'press any key to start' I pressed any key to start - this was a mistake! as I now couldn't listen to both audio clips at once so on the first play through I'd had no clues as to what is going on. Personally, I think the press any key to start option should have been withheld until the initial narrative finishes and for the title screen to have an image showing a diminished world in one viewport and a full size world in another with some accompanying text explaining that you're supposed to use the audio clues to get from the former to the latter. I've scored it much more favourably now that I understand it! ;)

Prince of Leaves by evilseanbot 2012-04-24T09:32:00

This is a nice platformer - I was half way into the caves at the end of the game before I realised I could move while hiding in the leaves! ;) it's an odd mix of artistic style with the oil-painting background and the retro-sprite foreground, but it works well enough. Well done :)

Pixels World by Zerod 2012-04-28T18:44:00

This is a really nice game, I especially liked the animation with the spinning star when you complete each level. I noticed that on the penultimate level (the one which starts with the long jump then the monsters stacked two-high) if I held jump I could jump into the centre of that first trap and then jump *off nothing* and get a second bounce in mid-air to clear the jump. Aside from that little bug this game presented a really good challenge and was fun to play. I liked that it was quite difficult in places but had unlimited retrys and checkpoints so you could keep playing without getting sent back to the start. Great work :)

The Pioneer by Moth 2012-04-28T09:42:00

This game is a lot of fun and feels well put together and polished. Great work :)

Affinity World by Jilius 2012-04-23T14:28:00

This game is a lot of fun to play (although I think I was far from completing it!) Keep up the good work :)

Combat Cubes by bigbadwofl 2012-04-24T08:09:00

This game has a lot of potential and has great graphics and music, but the first time I played it it crashed when my party died and then next time I picked one strong player instead of a whole party which I couldn't keep under control but after killing everything and looting all items I couldn't find a way to leave the first screen. In the inventory I could scroll down through the things I had looted, but unless I was scrolled right to the top of the list the item I clicked on didn't seem to match the item being selected. Then I couldn't find out how to close the inventory so tried [esc] and it closed the whole game and dumped me back to the desktop without warning or confirmation!! ... Overall this is one of the better games I've reviewed so far, it just needs a little more polish ;)

The Lair by Lilleman 2012-04-29T16:33:00

Like some others have said it would be better with higher gravity/faster jump and also it needs to be more responsive to keys being pressed. Otherwise a nice game - I liked the idea of a monster which spawns more monsters each time it takes damage!

The World in a Bottle by Robotic 2012-04-26T07:33:00

This is a very well put together game - congratulations! I found it quite hard though - on my first attempt I captured 12 humans when the goal was only 10 and then in the bottle I killed them all for a score of 720 just to find out the target score was 3,000 so I hadn't even got a quarter of the way there!! Next attempt at the same level I only managed to capture 8 humans so I failed before I even got to the bottle stage :( Still, nice to see good artwork, sound and music making it in to a game, and I think this game fits the theme very well.

World of Destruction by PROWNE 2012-04-24T09:16:00

I tried to play this game, but after a lot of waiting there were no opponents to challenge and without any single player or enemy AI option it's just a lobby simulator :(

The graphics from the screenshots look good though

Flyspeck by amodo 2012-04-24T08:58:00

Brilliant game! Very well done! I got stuck for a little while though [hint]stare into space[/hint]. The dialogue was funny and I liked the Monkey Island reference :)
... I'm looking forward to part two!

Molecules by m4c0 2012-04-28T10:07:00

Just made me some propylene C3H6 :)
Like some of the others have said I think the controls could be improved a little, but this is otherwise a nice game and it's well stylised too.

LD24 — Evolution

Lepton's Quest by rustybroomhandle 2012-09-01T15:33:00

Very beautifully stylised game. I hope you get to add some challenges to it soon so it becomes a bit more than just a click-through story. Great work :)

Darwin's Booby Snatch by Wampus 2012-08-31T23:38:00

I'm not sure if this is still quite unfinished or whether I just missed an essential element of the gameplay but there didn't seem to be much to do other than place traps then get birds out of them - I saw no threat or challenge to this goal and no apparent endgame? But still, it shows good potential and I like the graphical style, the sound is ok but I found the chirping a bit shrill/loud ;)

Oculus Battalion by Maxium 2012-09-15T09:04:00

this was a lot of fun :) good work

Vortex by IonProgramming 2012-09-15T08:29:00

felt a bit too slow, but has good potential :)

Cellvolution by thewiseguy99 2012-09-15T09:00:00

enjoyable little game. is there any benefit in picking up the "$" markers? - it only seems to make it tougher

Garbage Man: Return to Earth [HD] by nicholi 2012-09-10T21:09:00

Fun! I got a bit lost first time round, ended up not finding a darn thing then dying in space. But, its a tight concept, is a good take on the concept. It appealed to the sanitation agent in me. Great music too!

UN-Natural Selection by Haddy22 2012-09-15T09:14:00

lovely graphics and a great game overall. it would be good to introduce a chance of random mutation, because I ended up with three identical creatures that could only make more exactly like themselves ... the next even that they weren't suited to wiped them all out ;)

The life of Cat by Amoaeba Junior 2012-09-15T09:20:00

nice game, although a bit slow. good work :)

the Evolution from zx81 by zx81 2012-09-01T14:45:00

I got to the top on my 2nd or 3rd attempt but nothing happened and I fell back down - I later realised (well, I guess) I should have gone to the right-hand side of the top platform... but then I couldn't get back up - very frustrating! Fun though, well done :)

Growth by spcmnspf 2012-08-31T23:25:00

it kept telling me to plant more flowers, and then eventually I ran out of flowers and couldn't plant more - I guess this is to do with the game being unfinished. nice graphical and music work though. good luck with the post-compo version :)

spriters - evolution by Saltysandwiches 2012-09-01T10:22:00

I would have liked it to play a lot faster and for there to be more threat from the enemies because as it is it feels kinda slow-paced. I like that you physically build shields around yourself by manoeuvring into the white pixels :) and the animation on the background is nice.

Experiment X by XmmmX 2012-09-01T10:04:00

Great little game - especially good for a first Ludum Dare attempt! I felt it perhaps was a little slow to get going and the (final?) boos was too difficult so when I died there I didn't want to play through again all the way from the beginning.

Some music would round it off nicely - check out this link: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/12/13/if-you-find-it-hard-to-make-music-read-this/

Squid-wyn Happily Cleans Up Creationist Propaganda by pansapiens 2012-09-15T08:22:00

the controls were a bit counter-intuitive at first, it's a shame you didn't get it finished - I hope you're able to continue working on this and turn it into a great game

Unnatural Selection by goffmog 2012-08-31T23:18:00

I found this game a little confusing so spent most of my time just randomly clicking to see if anything happened then I went for a fly around the island instead :) But it has a lot of potential so keep up the good work.

Geomancy by lathomas64 2012-09-15T08:35:00

nice start, but really needs a tutorial

Boxy the Boxcat in Evolution Escapades by matthias_zarzecki 2012-09-15T08:50:00

good work :)

Evolve 'em all by kill0u 2012-09-01T10:10:00

One hit death makes it a bit difficult, and I don't know if it's just me but the frame-rate was really low - all the sprites flicked across the screen in a series of small jumps. The sprites are great and overall it's a good effort

Elefount 2: The Elementalution by EatThePath 2012-08-31T23:50:00

nice looking game with good potential, it's a shame you didn't get to finish it - I hope you continue to work on it after the compo :)

Plan M by MurrayL 2012-09-01T15:03:00

Wonderful stuff :)

Cat Breeder by caranha 2012-09-01T09:30:00

This is a nice concept (and good use of kittens btw ;)) but I feel it is let down a bit by the interface: the colours are quite jarring and I would like for the screen to be less cluttered and have more at-a-glance info available (e.g. tool tips / stat bars / etc.) Maybe consider adding a few tutorial rounds also.

Good luck with it :)

A Walk In The Park by PapyPilgrim 2012-09-03T21:59:00

Great music/sfx merge. Had a sort of otherworldliness to it. I really enjoy the subtlety of it, and the humanity created with simple characters. Nice!

TreeVolve by GetFun 2012-09-01T09:42:00

Both the graphics and audio make this game very appealing. The gameplay did get a bit repetitive and it would have been nice to be able to zoom out because it did feel a bit 'squashed'

Overall, very nice work :)

Human 2.0 by dengzo 2012-09-15T09:25:00

nicely stylised. it feels like there's quite a lot of waiting in this game - it would be nice if there was a little more to do while you wait (perhaps more meteors but smaller and less damaging to the creatures or something). Anyway, nice game - good work :)

LD26 — Minimalism

Chromatater by Jim Haslett 2013-05-10T16:47:00

this is a nice idea and a fun game - I'd like it to be a bit longer. Also, I think glitched my way to success on the final level ;)

Bear Necessities by itsZN 2013-05-10T16:40:00

Feels like Envirobear-2000 (without the car) :)
I sometimes found the display didn't scroll enough so I couldn't see what was just ahead of me - especially on the right-hand side. but overall a great job, I really enjoyed playing

Trapped in Minimalism by eShredder 2013-05-01T17:21:00

This is a great game! I died the first time I tried and it took me a while to realise that I have to be near the asteroids to shoot them, but then I played it through to the end. It was good to see a boss fight to finish on :)

Picture Frame by Herku 2013-05-12T18:10:00

good game but just a little too easy

Rainbow Rocket by Zccc 2013-05-11T18:50:00

Great looking game and a really nice concept. *Almost* perfect! Unfortunately for me the frustrating controls spoiled it and after completing the first five or six levels I didn't want to play on (sorry!). As other's have said - it would be better if the ship was always dead-centre in the viewport. Also, it seemed the steering system was, quite simply: 'define the centre of a circle and the ship will follow the tangent around that circle' but just sometimes in my experience this wasn't the case e.g. I'd click to the left of the ship to have it steer left but occasionally it would first veer wildly to the right so I'd end up on a much wider turning circle than I anticipated which would often cause me to crash. If you fix the frustrating controls (but keep the control concept the same!) then this would be a game worth paying for. Overall a superb job! :)

Zomblocks Blockiller by lfpetrini 2013-05-12T18:40:00

Kazimir's Revenge by Alex Shestakov 2013-05-11T14:46:00

great use of music. extra levels / replayability would be good

Duck vs. Balloon by lun 2013-05-12T18:19:00

simply but fun. it would be nice if the duck moved a bit faster and if there were mare stages

Minga-Me by blay09 2013-05-12T18:25:00

good game, funny too :)

Nirvana Quest by dremelofdeath 2013-05-03T23:23:00

A lot of fun and really nice graphical style, Good work!

John and the Stairway to Zion by Dissing 2013-05-12T18:38:00

good sense of mood and nice to see a game which follows a character through a story. it was a little slow paced for me but a really nice game none-the-less

The Parasite by jahlgren 2013-05-10T16:28:00

very nifty game, but tricky! great job :)

EpicQuestEssence by Mikel 2013-05-12T22:16:00

H48SJ4, the MINIMIZING robot by Aifryz 2013-05-11T15:00:00

it need some sense of challenge and some sound effects too, but it's a good starting point

Dwalk by Joritan Cety 2013-05-03T07:27:00

I really enjoyed playing this. A nice idea and good use of colour too.

Venture Ville! (Multi-player) by BrainSlugs83 2013-05-12T09:28:00

good work getting this far, I hope you can turn it into a finished project :)

MiniCrawl by Elemnir 2013-05-03T07:08:00

Good work! :) It'd be nice to see a way to outrun or dodge the monsters because if one spawns in the same room as you and the only exit is beyond it you're powerless to do anything.

Broken Sat-Nav, 3:12AM, 3013 by df2013 2013-05-11T15:08:00

It could do with some sound / music, but otherwise a good entry. I'm glad I read the .ini file (scored a few extra humour points there!)

Placeholder Title by The Jahn 2013-05-12T08:03:00

Good fun puzzle platformer with great music. Nice job

MinimalismRPG by Ernyz 2013-05-10T16:33:00

I like the line-of-sight effect - it would be nice to have a memory of where you've been also (perhaps not brightly lit and showing items etc. just the layout of the room you've already seen)

Spellbox by superjoebob 2013-05-02T06:39:00

Word games aren't really my cup of tea, but for those who like them this is a very sold implementation and as far as I know a nice original idea, good work. (Not sure it has much to do with minimalism ;) )

Unfinite by jonnopon3000 2013-05-11T14:21:00

I only saw a blank white page at kongregate under Chrome (after giving it over a minute to load and tried refreshing the page also), and the downloaded jar doesn't appear to do anything when launched - no window appears, no error message, etc. (Windows 7 64bit)

Alien Raid by LTyrosine 2013-05-01T16:52:00

This is a fun game and had me hooked for a little while :) I'm not sure it really fits the theme but is really good work anyway. I'd like to see slightly better AI for the astronauts - mine kept shooting into the side of a hill while the aliens on the other side of the hill shot down my buildings!

The Prospector by Steven Colling 2013-05-11T15:16:00

great graphics and an impressive game :) good job

City-States by recursive frog 2013-05-02T06:51:00

Great to see a card game in Ludum Dare and I really like your implementation of the 3D card table! I think your computerised version needs a tutorial of some sort as it was quite confusing. But overall great work :)

Awesome Artist by Zaszx 2013-04-29T07:09:00

I enjoyed this game, especially after the minimalists started using multi-shot patterned attacks. I would have liked for there to be a goal / win condition ... something more than 'delay your inevitable death', maybe use more of the screen and have a win condition if you reach the top.

Some sound effects and/or music would have really helped round it off and also I'm guessing that you didn't create the the artwork yourself and during the 48-hour time limit - so maybe this would have been better suited as a Jam entry?

Overall though it's a good effort - well done :)

Everybody Hates the Potatoes in the Magic Kingdom by kulhajs 2013-05-11T14:31:00

very confusing game, but good job putting an entry together in such a short time

Y.A.H.G (G for Game) by EggDestroyer 2013-05-11T14:41:00

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Great idea, and nice graphics too. Must admit I found it quite difficult

10 sec. Fast Beef by Alexander Ponomariov 2013-08-31T07:05:00

Nice graphics, good audio and a well executed gameplay idea. Overall a really great game!

The Super Fair Trial Show by Gabriel 2013-08-28T06:52:00

Very impressive for two days work - great job. Unfortunately it crashed 5 seconds into stage two and I had to bring up task manager and end the task.

Duke Dashington by AdventureIslands 2013-08-30T17:39:00

One of the best games I've played yet from this LD! Also I didn't even find it on this site, I started playing it from the 'Staff Picks' section on stencyl.com and only after the game started did I realise that it was made for the compo! ;)

Snap Encounters by Spiridios 2013-08-31T21:56:00

Nice graphics and the text was quite clever in places, however I'd like a bit more skill-based gameplay rather than the blind-luck which it feels like I used to get through this. Overall though nice work :)

Regular Dungeon by Syawra 2013-08-31T22:02:00

good job, nice work :)

Little Peeps by SmudgedCat 2013-08-31T22:22:00

I really enjoyed this game, it took me a while to get the idea - I didn't realise how important shift-clicking was early enough - but once I did I was very impressed with the gameplay in this. a little audio would have rounded it off perfectly but it's still a great entry overall

INSTIGATION by Steve Cochrane 2013-08-30T08:51:00

very enjoyable! and you really nailed the retro feel. good work :)

DINOstruction - Evolution in a matter of seconds by Tim Kaldor 2013-08-28T07:49:00

Good game and well executed. If you have time to work on it more it would be nice to see some audio, and a win condition perhaps

Clocked In by rylgh 2013-08-30T08:41:00

Very nice game, I like the very clean, tight aesthetic. A good challenge too :)

Con 10 Sedi by Capro 2013-09-12T06:38:00

Interesting take on the theme and great retro styling. Tricky though - I had to tone it down to 'childish' to beat it. :)

The theft of the magic potato by Dining Philosopher 2013-08-29T06:56:00

nice job. difficult though - I guess I had to get the red dress to enrage the bull, but the farmer kept stopping me.

Bragmor the Barbarian by Codexus 2013-08-31T22:36:00

One of the best games I've played yet! Amazing work especially when adhering to compo rules (well, almost adhering ;) ) I particularly enjoyed when I found the treasure room on my 3rd or 4th play through and I started kicking ass. If I had to be critical of something I'd pick hit detection as it seems Bragmor has to approach the enemies straight on and not just hit them from the side in passing. Overall though a really great game. Good job.

Mission Mars by gre 2013-08-29T07:29:00

Very tricky - the old school style is nice, but I would have preferred checkpoints because I didn't want to keep on re-doing my old work in order to beat the game. Overall quite enjoyable, good job

Lucid Journey by Purplescape 2013-08-31T07:54:00

nice graphics and music but I couldn't make sense of the controls - for example on the eclipse level I just wanted to move the moon towards the sun - but sometimes it went straight up off the top of the screen, sometimes it went to the middle and stopped for no reason, sometimes it went straight down... and I felt like I wasn't choosing any of those actions

The Hero's Journey (or get the treasure and run) by Ludipe 2013-08-29T07:38:00

Nice idea and quite challenging. I would have liked a restart button - while getting used to the controls I died a few times on lap one and although the game appears to restart all the obstacles were already active from the previous go.

Keg Quest by Crazi456 2013-08-29T07:20:00

fun idea and well executed, good job :)

The Aliens Came (10 seconds to choose) by porglezomp 2013-09-12T07:03:00

Excellent use of colour, and captured the mood just right.

Its always red by Szedouu 2013-08-28T06:43:00

This fits the theme well and is a good start - I hope you find time to add some audio and maybe something that give the player a clue about which wire to cut. Anyway, good work

Gone in 10 Seconds by panurge 2013-08-31T07:36:00

Excellent writing, funniest game I've played yet. Also the difficulty ramps very nicely with each level providing just the right amount of challenge. Great job!

Streaker 2013 by ashdnazg 2013-09-08T10:39:00

Short and sweet though a couple of plays is never enough - this had me hooked :)
Good humour and great use of the theme!

MegaPunch by Nick Weihs 2013-08-29T07:41:00

One of the best games I've played yet - great job!

Big City Goat Adventure by Sebby 2013-08-29T07:06:00

nice game - it took a while to get going and it would have been good if something a bit better happened at the ending, but overall great job :)

Black & White & Time by NachoDA 2013-08-27T07:00:00

I must have tried 50 times or more and EVERY time the guy gets killed by that first red car - what am I missing?! I tired clicking: 'plus car' or 'car plus' or 'minus car' or 'car minus' I tried the grey car that comes from the side (as well as other random cars in the world), I tried going really fast and clicking lots of times, I tried holding the button down in case this 'charges up' the time delay, I even reloaded the game (twice) just in case there's an intermittent bug at load ... but nothing ever happened. At all. Just the same two seconds of non-game happening over and over and over :(

The graphics are really great so I have scored you highly for those but taking your audio from other web sites is against the rules (even in the Jam and even if it's open source).

Black & White & Time by NachoDA 2013-08-28T07:27:00

Apologies, I misinterpreted the rules so I've re-scored your entry higher for audio accordingly. Also I've just found out why I couldn't get anything to happen ... you have to play the game *before* you hit "play", because after you hit "play" all gameplay opportunities stop(!?) I guess I see what you're doing there but you should probably pick better wording to make that a lot clearer! ;)

Hurry UP! by Sense 2013-08-27T14:54:00

Nice work. I'd like to see the red dots being positioned so they're always possible to avoid. Also I think it would be nice if the 'left edge' chased you at a rate based on your time remaining. Good game, well done

Angry Guards by Diptoman 2013-08-28T07:38:00

Good work. It was difficult to figure out what to do, but it's a nice game overall.

Lil' Kingdom Strives To Survive by lucidlarva 2013-09-12T13:33:00

really great game - could perhaps do with more of a beginning and an end to flesh it out a bit, but a lot of fun nonetheless :)

Game of Throws by ViPeOuT 2013-08-27T14:45:00

Awesome work for just one weekend!! I couldn't join either of the games listed when I tried to play (perhaps they didn't have their ports forwarded) so I just launched two widowed versions of the game and joined my own local server so I could check out the gameplay and review the game. Very impressed by the character model / animation and the audio too.

Flippin' Matrix by DaVince 2013-08-30T09:24:00

Great music, plus I like the reality-swapping idea. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing, I wandered around for a while, found server rooms and died falling from roof-tops and eventually got in a lift but none of it seemed to be taking me closer to any objective - so I guess a bit more narrative would have been nice. Overall though, really great work

Cowdown by RevelBase 2013-08-31T07:23:00

One of the best looking games so far. Clever use of the theme too and well executed.

Lost in the Darkness by TobiasW 2013-08-31T22:51:00

Polarity Countdown by Mental Atrophy 2013-08-27T14:32:00

I was going round in circles for a while on that last level :) some sort of end-game would have been nice instead of simply restarting. I really like the player sprite. Nice work

The Duellists by jay griffin 2013-08-30T09:01:00

I really like the look and feel of this game - great work! It's frustrating to lose when I had the cross-hairs spot on target but my bullet randomly goes wide then the AI takes their sweet time and scores a perfect head-shot (when I lose a game I like to know that it's my fault and not the game engine). But overall a really good game.

Campfire by BloodJohn 2013-08-27T10:38:00

Really nice graphics and a genuinely compelling game that made me want to keep on playing :) I hope you continue to work on this and maybe get some sound effects in there

The 10 (other) Seconds Journey by PaperBlurt 2013-08-31T08:09:00

Well written, could have used some sound or music. Each level felt unrelated and the choices felt random - instead I would have liked your story to create a world and for my choices to relate to what I'm learning about your world as I play.

10-Second Switch by oajfh 2013-08-27T14:20:00

Great job! It's impressive to get finished gameplay and sound effects and music in your first LD, so well done. I didn't realise what the button did until I finished playing the game and read the above text - so it would have been nice to see that explained in-game somewhere. Also, I would have liked better contrast between the bullets and the background colours. Overall though nice work!

Jimmy The Knight by torvik88 2013-08-27T14:35:00

Some indication of the player's health would have been nice because it felt a bit like I was being taken back to the menu for no reason (I assume I was being beaten by the skeletons?!) Great graphics, and overall a good effort.

Time To Say Goodby by Satyre 2013-08-28T07:08:00

Great job - nice graphics and the audio makes the game feel suitable tense. However it seems impossible to win?!

10 Seconds Before Flush by Geeks-n-chicks 2013-08-27T06:24:00

Great game. It took me a few goes at first because I didn't realise touching the flowers was costing me time - that could have been a little clearer. Overall a nice fun entry :)

A Maze Thing by TeamAMazeThing 2013-08-28T10:09:00

Nice game, good work. The lighting is great and the game certainly feels moody :) I found it a bit difficult - it often felt like I was getting hit without any warning, so maybe add some sound effect for when aliens are very near and/or when you're losing health? I also had some performance issues with this - quite a choppy frame-rate on both the web player and the downloaded windows version - but I've never had problems before with other Unity games. Still, great job overall - well done

Rick and The Ghost by TheGamingProject 2014-01-05T13:12:00

nice graphics and interesting concept. I played through a couple of times but I couldn't find the content shown in two of your screenshots (outside the house and living room, by the looks of it)

The Last Match by Ashtom 2013-12-20T20:29:00

really nice lighting effects, and a good concept too

You only get one.....life by desmarkie 2014-01-05T11:40:00

I really like games like this, and you've done a great job with this one. Like some others have said it's *far* too frustrating to take the player right back to the start of the game if they put a foot wrong. Some audio wouldn't go amiss and the only other thing I'd highlight is the jump animation feels too slow (sure, it's 'low gravity' space themed but once you've seen the jump a couple of times it starts to get annoying when it takes so long to move just two tiles)

Game Of Life by feizenbara 2013-12-16T12:16:00

nice job, good graphics too :)

Gods of Baloo by timtipgames 2013-12-21T21:06:00

nice start :) I hope you find time to complete the idea you started out with

brainstorm by cardboard 2014-01-05T11:55:00

Nice graphics. It was fun punching around the piss-poor theme that is "you only get one" :) A few collision detection issues. Overall though good work.

Boulder Boomerang by Kikkers 2013-12-23T23:54:00

Nice mood and graphics. The game was a lot of fun :) sometimes the controls felt a bit unresponsive, and it's quite difficult when the enemies are so random - I'd like to see more pattern to their moves so I could play a bit more strategically. Overall though a great game, good work!

Just One Minute by TheCze 2013-12-28T23:17:00

Shame about only being able to play once - I did clear my browser cache and retry, but I crashed again and couldn't be bothered with that process another time, there's just no fun in it. Otherwise good game I guess (not that I was allowed to see a lot of it!!)

Black Friday by lasergans 2014-01-06T18:27:00

The controls are a bit awkward but the graphics and humour are good. Congratulations on your first LD

One to Move them all by LandoSystems 2014-01-06T18:45:00

Awesome stuff! This is now among my favourites from LD28 :) ... I'm surprised there haven'e been more "once ring to rule them" games (or maybe I just missed them until now!)

You Only Get One Gift (for christmas) by Bw2801 2014-01-05T12:57:00

Nice puzzle game - and great work on your first Ludum Dare! :)

It was good how your started simple and introduced more elements as the game proceeded.

I sometimes found the wooden doors looked too similar to the floor so a couple of times I thought the corridor was clear and suspected your collision detection was bugged but then I realised I just couldn't see the brown-on-brown door!

Also it would be nice to have a HUD telling me how many keys I have, which coloured cards, etc.

Overall though, very well done!

Spacedentist saves the day by StMatn 2013-12-29T01:31:00

The first level I played was quite easy but suddenly got very hard - there were three of those flying shrimp things in a narrow corridor just past a huge stalagmite so the choke-point was full of projectiles ... which although it was tough little things like that make games with random generation kinda cool because everyone can take away their own personal experience from it!

Yogo Boom by rogerklotz 2013-12-28T21:00:00

Great game. The upgrade feature gave it lots of replayability too :)

Rune Raider by nyytroh 2013-12-20T20:18:00

Great game, and well done on your first Ludum Dare! (nice to see another libgdx user ;) )

The Last Rock by JaviCepa 2013-12-16T11:45:00

The best game I've played yet! I especially love the arm-flapping animation as the character lands a jump!

My Champion by jacklehamster 2013-12-22T23:37:00

Great game, with good challenging gameplay (and I usually don't like football games - but this is an exception!!) on one game I managed to somehow send the ball over and past my goal and although myself and the gorillas kept chasing it we never found it - after a minute or so I just restarted. I found the sound a bit grating (and it's the only game so far when someone else in the room asked me to make the noise stop ;) ). Overall though a very fun and compelling game. Good work

Blast Miners by Zeno 2013-12-16T16:26:00

nice bomberman tribute. I really like the walking sound effect - it fits just right with that retro gaming style.

The YOLO game by OniiRam 2014-01-05T12:12:00

So many LD28 games say "each time you die you restart from the beginning" and that's really crap because it adds no fun or enjoyment to any game (well, almost any game). But I don't blame the individual developers, I blame the terrible choice of theme.

Anyway - looking at your game in particular, I found it quite tough, the graphics were very good and I liked the way the pick-ups and the HUD were identical - nice mix of the 'game world' and the 'player world' :) Overall great work.

Super Christmas Teeth Basher 5000 by DaanVanYperen 2013-12-28T23:03:00

good use of humour :) I couldn't figure out how to collect teeth ... I always ended up with 0. Also waving the arms was funny but without a clearer mechanism it was a bit frustrating trying to grab/throw some children but not others - I think I would have preferred grabbing the closest child one with a click - then hold the button to charge up a throw (or something!) Overall, really great work :)

Lost Gems by d__adee 2014-01-05T13:30:00

Nice game! A bit more time to think about each screen would be helpful (those monsters come right at you before you've seen what items there are and what paths/exits you have); I'd also like to see every colour sword available somewhere on each level so you can eventually beat all the monsters (and maybe have the wrong colour sword stun them for a second, just to give you a chance). I really liked the white outline on the graphics :)

Apocalypse One by jinxly 2013-12-28T22:39:00

Very good pixel art. I beat the first to levels / soldiers but Thomas was too hard. The collision detection seemed a bit too harsh, and if you hit a wall but keep the key held down then it no longer processes that key until you release it and press it again! Also, I don't get how it relates to the theme?

Fishbowl by auto_suggestion 2013-12-20T21:53:00

Really great work - especially for a first Ludum Dare! Having to tap E again to go through an open door was odd, it took me a while to figure that out. It says "you only get one key" ... except for that time when I was carrying three ;) Lovely graphics and great use of colour.

Fill-In Fantasy by frogcheese 2013-12-28T22:53:00

I really liked the writing in this - good marks for humour!

It was quite annoying that the text lingered for so long at the start of every encounter with no option to skip it and then, on beating the game, the text automatically advanced slightly faster than I could read! (hint: always make your text slow enough for dyslexic people but always with a button to breeze through it as fast as desired ;))

Stickman in a Cave by bitowl 2013-12-20T21:19:00

I enjoyed this game a lot :) and there's plenty of content too which is a great in a Ludum Dare game! It's very satisfying finding some of the hidden caches. Even with cheat mode I didn't get far enough to find the boss (mainly because I fell onto spikes or slimes and got hurt hundreds of times in one second (it'd be nice to have a half-second of invulnerability after taking damage). Great voice overs too! Overall this is one of the best games I've played so far in this LD.

The Terrible Battle Between Men and Turtles by saulopz 2013-12-29T00:05:00

Fun game, well done. (And finally! someone has chronicled the terrible battle between men and turtles! ;)) great work - especially for under 24 hours!

One Pickup One Spell - LD28 by ocirne23 2013-12-21T09:59:00

Great work, well done! It seems that in the first instant you are the only target? i.e. if you put a lot of enemies in hundreds of missiles will fly straight in your direction but none at anyone else?!

Great work on your first Ludum Dare!

In a maze with one by okmmjyygv 2013-12-16T16:59:00

Nice game, and good use of the theme. Like some others have said, the random maze generator isn't quite right so I'd recommend either enhancing that a little or loading some hand-made levels which have been designed to provide a bit of a challenge. Maybe also consider an alternate wall image that is just a small variation to the main image and use it vary occasionally to break up the repetitive pattern. Overall though, good work :)

Monogon by Rscar 2013-12-29T00:50:00

Lovely art style. The music didn't work for me but I extracted it from the .jar and played it on loop in Windows Media Player. (I also took a quick look at the code, as I used libgdx too, but I couldn't see any reason why the music shouldn't play! The only difference I have is I use .ogg files, and I've not yet tried adjusting my music volume in code. weird :s )

I beat the all three levels with 52 deaths - most of which were me trying to start level 3 by going right onto the only platforms I could see! :)

A fine game, well done!

Stabby Slimes by argontus 2013-12-28T23:42:00

Stabby times; I killed 8 innocent things :) When I played the web version the first time everything was grey and I could hear sounds but just died really fast, then it said press 'R' to retry - after that everything was normal. Well done on your first Ludum Dare (I hope next time you can get far enough along to include your theme idea - or better yet have the theme mechanic/charcter/rules/whatever present from the very start! ;))

Get Out! by SquareWorldStudios 2013-12-20T18:22:00

really tough game, but good work on completing your first jam! :) maybe start with a tutorial level and ramp up the difficulty from there? also, a little audio would go a long way.

Clueless by m12y 2013-12-29T00:11:00

Cluless indeed - adding a clue system would make this game better (so you can catch the killer before anyone dies), and some sound too would be nice too - maybe combine both additions in one?
The best I did was only 2 people dead.

Migration by lkpridgeon 2013-12-31T13:48:00

nice use of audio. a simple and calming game. good work

You Only Get One (Direction) by enosshenk 2013-12-28T22:14:00

I hope that's the last time I ever play a One Direction / Justin Beiber game! Nice beat-em-up though, well done.

You shouldn't use photos in the Compo - you should enter the Jam if you're using graphics you didn't create yourself in the 48 hours (unless you're a photographer and you did a One Direction photo shoot during the Ludum Dare weekend - that would be allowed but it seems very unlikely!!)

Nature's Howl by louis.denizet 2013-12-18T08:19:00

Good job, well done. I think like some other commentrs, I missed some of the tutorial text because I was busy looking at where the clouds of pollution were coming from so I no longer had time to read. Overall a good game with a great use of the theme

Graham Vs Lord Nebulon by Articulated 2013-12-16T23:13:00

I love games like this! You've done a nice job with the graphics, and a little bit of sound would have been good. Also, having a multi-file download which then launches a windows installer is a bit of a pain. Finally, having to click through those "you crashed, you have to go back" screens over and over again just gets frustrating!(but that's more the fault of a bad theme than of your game ... if you continue to work on this game after Ludum Dare please take out that rule - it adds nothing and is just a bit irritating! ;) )

Golf Quest by rojo 2013-12-20T08:57:00

I really enjoyed this, and I didn't that find moving the character in this manner was annoying at all, it just takes a couple of minutes to learn then all is fine!

I did clip a few stray pixels (down and right from the key platform) which sent the ball flying in an odd direction, and when trying to kill the slime in the far top-left I was, again, one platform down and right but even though I was facing left my Clever Staff often sent the ball either straight up or to the right (behind me)!! That was frustrating because I couldn't understand what was happening or how I could do something differently to avoid it.

Overall a really great game, the mix of wizards and golf is fun too :)

She Only Has One Day by sjames_93 2013-12-16T22:55:00

Really great graphics! I liked the drumbeat too, though a couple of jump sounds effect would have been nice. However, this game could do with some checkpoints! At first I only got about halfway through the day, then on my second attempt I got through all of the day and about 95% of the night when I accidentally double-jumped in mid air somehow and botched the landing - I wanted to see the story resolve, but I really didn't want to do all those jumps again from the very beginning! Overall though, great job :)

Tough by anvoz 2013-12-21T19:30:00

Innovative way to beat the game ;) You should make all your own graphics (and sound, music, code, etc.) if you're entering the Compo - else just enter in the Jam.

Monochrome by ApoorvaJ 2013-12-16T10:57:00

good work on the story and pixel art

One Hot Potato by Tomski 2013-12-21T13:20:00

Very nice game. A lot of fun, great graphics & audio and good use of the theme too. Well polished overall :)

-- deleted -- by lesspix 2013-12-16T11:12:00

Nice game, good level design too. I only read the bit about sound after I completed it - so I went back and completed it again with audio. (p.s. I really want that key!! :) )

you only get one fridge by gilborn 2013-12-16T19:58:00

Really great visuals and it's nice to see a point & click too. I hope you continue to work on it :)

You Only Get One Nap by Gtoknu 2013-12-28T23:59:00

Good work :) I didn't mind the difficulty, except that I would really like to be able to jump higher - I like to feel that I'm more 'heroic' than a pillow when I play a game!!

Gem breaker 28 by rezil 2013-12-28T22:26:00

Nice game, good work! I'd like to see a menu screen - or at least for the game to be paused when it starts so you have a moment to take in the text. I also didn't make much use of the bombs at all (in fact I only used them on my second play through and even then it was just to test what they are / how they worked) - it would be nice to see the theme take a more central role. Great work overall - well done on finishing you first LD :)

Cmdr. Yogo by rnlf 2013-12-20T18:45:00

Really great work! This was really compelling and I spent a lot longer (re)playing this than most other games I've reviewed so far! I can be a bit long winded getting from one level to the next, so after I'd seen the dialogue a couple of times I was just hitting escape to skip it and restarting from the menu - it'd be nice if you sped up that process a bit, oh and also allowed your score to roll over into the next level. Overall though great job!!

BONK by sensenmann666 2013-12-28T21:22:00

Nice lighting, and great work overall - especially for a first LD! Well done :)

Decisions by Kemoiz 2013-12-28T21:45:00

I couldn't make much sense of this; even with the help command I had to look at the source to find out how to proceed

Careful Now by Orangy Tang 2013-12-20T08:16:00

Really great concept and the artwork is very nice too. I found the exaggerated motion of the hands was too exaggerated for my tastes, but overall a great entry. Good work :)

Junktion by Kohijin 2014-01-05T12:27:00

I found it very difficult to hear any difference - I was playing with headphones on and walked up and down a corridor a few times in just 'audio' mode and still suddenly died out of nowhere without understanding what was different to the last time I walked up that same corridor listening to the sound!? ... quite frustrating and I must admit I wasn't having much fun - however, with a tutorial and a more gentle learning curve this could be really good.

Anyway, graphically this game is superb! Great job :)

Space Adventures by Rialgar 2014-01-06T18:55:00

Nice graphics and good controls (though a bit slow). However, I couldn't see the theme in this?

Can you hear me? by Jago 2013-12-29T01:58:00

Nice idea, but I found there were not enough clues to make sense of it so I was just 'guessing in the dark' and although I tried for quite a long time I didn't feel I'd progressed at all so I just became bored and stopped playing. Sorry :/

Good work though for your first LD especially when you used a lot less than 48 hours!

This is not golf by bizn355 2014-01-05T09:05:00

Still getting the 404, both Web and Windows version

Mayfly by keksdev 2013-12-20T22:06:00

Very pleasant artwork and a nice take on the theme. Personally, I felt the lack of gameplay (i.e. player choices or skill) left something to be desired, but this was nice nonetheless. Good work.

Rocket Fuel by Maskl 2013-12-20T19:09:00

nice use of colour, great work for just a few hours!

Open Forest by koller-digital 2013-12-16T11:33:00

Interesting idea and nice graphics. I'd rather see the tutorial text slide off the top of the screen, not the right-hand side, it seemed to take forever waiting for it to slide out and the next one to slide in! I got overrun with monsters in the end, but I didn't experience any lag at all (like a lot of other commenters have said)

Going Around by daredevildave 2014-01-05T11:22:00

Nice graphics and animation. I also like that it's a 3D adventure game where you still 'point and click' instead of controlling the character directly (too many main stream 3D adventure game titles went down the awkward latter route for my liking!)

Fish Go Blub by Dry Tree 2013-12-30T11:33:00

Oops! Sorry about that, I've now edited the scores database by hand to show your correct position at the top of the highscores table :)

Gaea by bach 2013-12-24T00:44:00

Triangles: 34,841
Planets: 2662
Systems: 6
Clicks: 387

And after playing for a solid half an hour I think I need a surgeon to take a look at my clicking hand!

Seriously though this is really really good! Took me a while to figure out how to play, but once I did I was hooked. Very nice use of colour, a powerful message subtly portrayed, anything with fractals is cool in my books, and it's fun and compelling to keep playing (even if your finger is hurting!). One of the best I've rated yet - great work! :)

Concert Crashers by atombrot 2013-12-28T22:06:00

Great concept, nice particle effects and really good music :) On level two there was invisible stairs and weird stuff like that, but anyway very impressive work given the time limit

TITAN SOULS by Claw 2013-12-26T19:00:00

Great graphics and audio!

I think difficult games fall into two categories... 1) games with fluid controls and predictable scenarios/events where if you fail at a challenge it feels entirely your own fault and you're really compelled to play again because you're sure you can do better with 'just one more go'; or 2) games with either sluggish controls or sudden unexpected 'insta-death' traps etc. where, despite the knowledge that if you'd acted differently then you might have lived, you feel like defeat was the game's fault.

Because it takes soooo verrrry loooong to charge the arrow I unfortunately found your game fits into the second category - even after 15+ attempts, defeat always occurred during this sluggish bit of the game and then I was just not interested in playing on :( Sorry!

I spent a fair while trying to find out if there was a more enjoyable way to shoot the arrow - Perhaps you can shoot it instantly with just a tap, or a double-tap?... no. Perhaps you can charge it up and then strafe around before releasing it?... no. Perhaps you can maintain the charge during a roll?... no.

From me: very high marks for Graphics, very high marks for Audio, very high marks for Mood, but not-so-high marks for Fun I'm afraid.

P.S. Congratulations on getting a mention in RPS :D

superfrozenkittengetsonlyonesecretbottleforyou by evilindiegames 2013-12-21T09:15:00

Great style. Nice and moody :) Is there a special 'secret' bottle somewhere among the many 'normal' bottles I picked up? ... or did I find the 'only one' bottle about twelve times over and the game just loops every time?

Seven Eagles, One Lantern by MadcoreTom 2014-01-05T09:25:00

Great game! I really like the graphical style and you made good use of decoration to distinguish different areas of the maze. It took me a while to figure out that the hexagons were pressure pads (maybe have them activate when the player walks over them to make it more clear?), also I think I finished the game but I couldn't tell - I found all seven gold eagles but there was no victory screen/message, so I thought that maybe I had opened up a new area with an exit room or something and I wandered around for a few minutes more but couldn't find anything so I just exited with an unsure feeling. Overall though a really great game; good work! :)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Crayon Miners by Charimation 2014-04-29T17:12:00

Great work! Nice music and a good difficulty level too - however, I would like it if there was maybe a checkpoint at each miner... it took me quite a few tries to reach the 2nd miner though I eventually got the hang of it but then on dying near, say, the 4th miner and having to do (and sometimes fail and re-do) all the early tunnels over again was a bit of a pain. Still, it's overall very fun and compelling to try again! Well done :)

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Heart Star by AdventureIslands 2014-08-25T23:36:00

Really great game! Best I've played so far :)
A good design, nicely balanced difficulty curve, good use of theme, great graphics and audio.

Chromasis by jwin 2014-09-11T06:16:00

Very nice graphics and a good game overall. One thing though, I found the contrast of the pointer too low and it was hard to see seometimes

Nhelee by S0rax 2014-09-02T13:01:00

Great mood and the tileset is very nice too. It was difficult to find my way out of the last level, but I got it eventually. The jumps where there is a 'roof' 2 blocks above the floor are very difficult as I almost always hit my head, and the 'ladder' of jumps like this near the end of the second level was practically impossible - after several minutes of trying I just killed the character, respawned and picked up more orbs from elsewhere instead.

VRtist by wallmasterr 2014-09-04T21:39:00

Very nice art style. I'm glad someone made a project for Google Cardboard - I'll have to get around to building one now! I played the web version and got a x6 multiplyer but didn't see what my top score was because I hit a block - it would be nice to see 'current' and 'best' score tracked in the corner somewhere. It seems an odd choice to make a VR headset game in which you're only supposed to look through one eye at a time, but maybe that's just me.

Honko's Worlds by FrankieSmileShow 2014-09-06T08:23:00

Really great game and very nice graphics. I'd like to be able to stand still while looking on a diagonal more easily (it usually detects which key I released a few milliseconds later and aligns me to that axis). Checkpoints would be useful - or maybe passwords to continue with the old-school feel :)

Beaver CO-OP by SenorDiablo 2014-09-11T06:05:00

"404 - the file your're looking for has been moved or deleted"

ConnectTheWorlds by mrexcessive 2014-08-31T11:32:00

Nice game, good level of challenge. A couple of minor issues where old message windows would sometimes overlap new ones, also it seemed to me that the alert sound played too readily - I felt in control doing a slow safe landing that was successful but still the alert sounded anyway. Good job overall though :)

Milkyway Tycoon by jackyjjc 2014-09-04T20:18:00

Good work! A bit too complicated and numbers-heavy - it took a long time to get into it. I played for about an hour and got 14 routes and £300,000 but I couldn't get enough passengers so I dropped all my prices a bit and then I was just haemorrhaging money and eventually lost it all. I never did understand how all the different stats and numbers relate or how to 'game' those figures, it felt more like I was just clicking on stuff blindly. I think some colours, graphs or other visual cues would really help a lot for learning how to play and where the demand for travel is. Good game overall though and good fit for the theme.

Firevania by ShawnFeatherly 2014-08-31T10:20:00

Funny, well paced, and good use of the theme :) Nice work

The Bushrod Tapes by carlsommer 2014-09-04T20:59:00

I like my games to have (as a minimum) some player participation and meaningful choices, this didn't really do it for me I'm afraid.

FlyWheel by ColdBrain 2014-09-04T20:52:00

Nice graphics and good mood. I found the gameplay quite confusing as the instructions said to drag the balls into each other but sometimes I couldn't get them to move at all while other times I could, and I didn't understand what my goal was after dragging a few balls into each other. Still a very beautiful game and great work for just one weekend!

The MillionWood by frogcheese 2014-08-31T12:08:00

Great game that's strong across the board on fun, theme, graphics and audio. my only complaint is the strobing backgrounds are quite a strain on my eyes!

Rockmorse by eralpkaraduman 2014-09-04T21:25:00

Interesting idea and good audio / visuals, I found the gameplay a bit dull though (but I did make it back to Earth :) )

I would like to see this as a smartphone / tablet game but loose the astronaut and just drag the rocks around with my finger. also I'd like to not have the spots on the floor dictated to me, but instead a short message that I have to write and a morse reference sheet and for the game to simply detect horizontally-nearby rocks and superimpose whatever letters I'm spelling out - then I could write any words but the story only progresses if I write the 'target' word - or better yet have a branching narrative where I can choose different outcomes by following different conversations / messages - but all this would have to be faster to keep the gameplay interesting.

The Interplanetary Armada Defense Squad vs. The Neverending Saucer Fleet by alangamebot 2014-09-06T07:06:00

Good game. Nice idea and strong use of the theme. It would be nice to have 'lives' so some defence ships can respawn. Also, it's a small thing but I'd like the game to end when a ship is killed not 10 seconds later - games that make you play on for a bit even after you know you have lost are a pet peeve of mine (I've not marked you down for that, just saying :) ).

Interplanetary Messengers by DragonMaster21 2014-09-04T20:41:00

I had quite a few goes at this but gave up in frustration before achieving anything significant - the travel and rotation are WAY... TOO... SLOW... :( *ragequit*

However, the graphics and audio are very good and its a nice fit for the theme so I scored you highly for those anyway :)

Connected Worlds Defender by pcmccull 2014-08-31T13:01:00

Very fun game! I survived 135 waves... and then I was absolutely overrun :) (I assume there's no win condition and everyone gets swamped by attackers eventually?). Some audio would have been nice, but still a good game overall.

Arched Dimension by Tanser 2014-08-31T12:28:00

I just see a red screen. I have the latest versions of Java and Radeon HD graphics drivers (Windows 7 64bit). Unrated.

The SwitchBoard by paps 2014-08-31T10:09:00

Good use of the theme, and nice audio.

Four Worlds by MrJavaFrank 2014-09-02T13:18:00

Great game. I felt it got difficult quite early - I would have liked fewer places to fall off the world in the early stages. Also, the pressure plates were had to spot at first. Good job overall though :)

Connected Worlds by Vidsneeze 2014-09-06T08:44:00

The graphics a nice. It froze twice (once hammering fence posts and once outside the bar) so I had to keep relaunching it. Also, I played through again and tried to do anything differently/better/worse but it seems that my actions, choices and level of skill have absolutely no influence over the outcome so this feels more like an animation than a "game" per se. Also, dog killing sequences - not cool :(

Strangers From Space by ALobker 2014-08-31T12:35:00

it would be nice to have an indication of where your current mission goals are - like direction markers at the edge of the window, or something. also some audio would make a lot of difference. good work overall though :)

Defend the Planets! by alhvi 2014-09-10T06:51:00

Very good game, and well fitted to the theme. Just a thought: It would be nice if I didn't have to click to transfer energy and instead it tracked my mouse position and distributed energy automatically based on how close my pointer was to each of the three planets - I think that would make the game more dynamic and I'd feel more powerful playing it.

Clashed by dusho 2014-09-06T07:41:00

A bit easy, but still a fun game. I would like to be able to see tiles within attack range light up when I click on an enemy unit, because I only got hit twice and it was from ranged units but I thought I was far enough away. Good job overall :)

This Little Piggy... by InfectionTeam 2014-09-12T06:50:00

Absolutely superb!! :D

GalaxyXX by DragonInstall 2014-08-31T11:45:00

Beautiful graphics - great work there. I don't know if you've updated the controls yet but I found it really confusing - I kept getting situations where turning the mouse left would rotate the ship to the right or into a nose-dive or something.

Troll Away by spolsh 2014-08-31T11:18:00

Amazing use of tech, top marks for that! It was difficult to tell which character was mine or my opponents, and the same for the markers - so I would have liked to see different coloured characters in the game and also to see a reminder of each player's marker shown in the corner of their screen. Both of my devices had trouble picking out the marker images so the red dot would flicker on and off, but I think the print quality is okay and the camera is reasonably good on both devices - maybe I needed different lighting or table surface? I had daylight from a window behind me and I was playing on a slightly glossy tabletop. Some instruction about that would be helpful. Also it would be useful if you provide a QR code to download the .apk file because having already browsed to this game from my PC it was kind of tedious to navigate through the Ludum Dare site again from my phone and then yet another time on my tablet. Finally, does it need to be network play between 2+ devices? I guess more people will be able to play if you can take turns from one phone. Overall though, really great work!! :)

Song of the Dodo by uvwar 2014-09-06T06:57:00

Awesome game! Would be even better with some comedy sound effects. It seems you can just walk out to sea and survive indefinitely though. Overall, very good game :)

Saphenous by AortaStudios 2014-08-31T10:29:00

Nice graphics and good use of the theme. I would like to have a mini-map on this game to make it easier to navigate around.

Think Fast by shico 2014-08-31T10:01:00

Good work - especially for a first LD :) It took me a while to figure out I had to push a detector block onto the button instead of triggering it myself, and the play area was way too big so I had to bring my browser zoom down a lot. Otherwise a great game.

I've Got the World On a String by kirbytails7 2014-09-04T20:28:00

Nice game and great audio, I felt the boss fights were boring as there was nothing to do other than wait it out (unless I missed something?!) ... at first I tried 'lassoing' the boss but that didn't do anything. Good game overall though :)

BOLYGOK by Chaoslab 2014-08-31T11:51:00

grow or burn by Silvio 2015-12-19T21:44:00

Very good. I'd like to see a real-time version

Grow In VR by hpearson2 2015-12-19T09:58:00

Great idea and nicely implemented. Congrats on your first Ludum Dare :)

Lab Rat by someone 2015-12-23T21:39:00

Great use of the theme. I couldn't figure out the level with the button at the bottom and the door at the top right!

Growing Xmas Tree by Webravenz 2015-12-19T21:22:00

Very merry :)

Snowman Builder Extreme by zenmumbler 2015-12-20T00:28:00

Nice game! I've never seen snowballs that are that bouncy, or that spin backwards when rolling forwards for that matter :p

Zyx's Adventure by Husky 2015-12-19T21:54:00

Really good use of just 2 buttons!

Grow Ray!! by angela 2015-12-23T21:13:00

Great concept, and good use of the theme. (also, 'Verticite and Horizontium' reminds me of the element names in Megalomania!) :)

Switcher by coywolf 2015-12-19T22:10:00

Nice job. Are the levels randomly generated? Some maps were a lot easier than others.

Vice Grip by wulfdesign 2015-12-19T23:33:00

Nice game. It took a while to figure out that I was supposed to throw food during the boss fight - I guess that's where the 'growing' comes in. After the boss it just went to a black screen with music playing; but it doesn't seem like that's supposed to happen.

Santavania by andrewkennedy 2015-12-19T22:28:00

Great retro feel. Took me ages to realise I could sled over the green wall!

Be A Man by Neil 2015-12-19T10:10:00

Good job. Fun idea and the music is good.

Toolip! by davekalina 2015-12-19T22:42:00

Good job :)
I think it would have benefited from a tutorial

Bug Plus Plus by Pat AfterMoon 2015-12-19T21:18:00

Nice game. The antennae showing which way you're about to turn is a good touch.

Seicho Boru by Robert 2015-12-20T00:40:00

Good audio and nice use of the theme

Growtye by Goutye 2015-12-19T23:53:00

Nice use of the theme. Fun but maybe a bit too easy. Also it glitched a little in the corners in the final rounds. Still good overall though :)

Marimo by comatomatoes 2015-12-19T23:41:00

Very nice looking game. Sometimes the ring was red (I assume this means I was too big) but I couldn't split.

Winter Wilds by Bastienre4 2015-12-19T22:03:00

Nice idea and very good audio - it really builds the mood

MutiVeg Labs by EwChap 2015-12-19T09:38:00

Fun little game. I couldn't hear any sound on the WebGL version though.

Karel by Dry Tree 2015-12-19T22:55:00

I'm not sure what's up with the Linux build and 14.04, but I'll keep it up in case it works for other people. However I've just tested the WebGL version under Linux Mint (based off Ubuntu 14.04) and it works fine.

Swordsman's Life by hcosta 2015-12-21T12:55:00

Nice :) As others have said, it would be nice to be able to restart from the last level your reached.

Hello Darkness by jcmonkey 2015-12-23T21:54:00

Good work. I would have liked the mobs to chase the player once they spot him - several times I dropped a mine in (what I thought was) a mob's path just for it to get very close but then turn back. Maybe allow the player to pick up and re-deploy unexploded mines?

push your button then punch by 525 2015-12-19T09:48:00

I assumed the 'two buttons' of the theme were 'G' and 'H' (or '.' and ';' for p2), but then there seemed to be no need for these buttons in the game? I just used up, down, left, right, and the mouse.

Nine Panels by Chaserbrown 2015-12-21T13:14:00

Great use of the theme and good level design too

All Ways Down by noddingTortoise 2015-12-23T21:27:00

Really nice idea. Somehow simultaneously soothing and frustrating!

Gardener Galaxy by pro-hat-switchers 2015-12-19T23:14:00

Very tranquil. Really enjoyed it :)

test by ddr2 2015-12-19T10:19:00

Best Ludum Dare MMO I've played yet :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

Betty Botz by recursor 2017-08-05T12:35:08Z

Really great game with very nice presentation. The only thing I didn't like is the steering... forward + right takes me clockwise (like I would expect) but backward + right still takes me in a clockwise circle; to me it would make more sense if it handled like a car. Still, great job overall! :)

Electro Evac by Remco 2017-07-31T13:48:43Z

I like that you can use conveyors as 'wires' to help you light up the level, but they're also a bit of a hindrance to movement once powered; that made for a nice balancing act. It would be good to start with a simple level and/or tutorial because the initial learning curve felt quite steep. Overall though, good work for two days! :)

The adventure of Dotty by Erkberg 2017-08-05T13:13:35Z

Nice work! I scored 22,940 in endless mode. I think it would be interesting if the bullets did more damage while dotty is not meditating but only a small amount when she is, and for meditation to take a little longer - perhaps typing whole words or phrases.

Depths of Mars by SuperEndeg 2017-08-01T17:43:53Z

Nice game, I enjoyed the text comments that showed up as collectables are found :) I completed it with 15/18 collectables found.

Spacesteroids by novotmike 2017-08-05T11:50:32Z

Fun game, nice music. I found that since shooting costs energy it was often better to not shoot at all and instead to treat every contract as a 'dodging mission', which rewarded me with more energy but also took a little fun out of the game.

Archetype - Running Out of Power by cakemonitor 2017-08-01T09:02:50Z

@gwinnell Did you try clicking on the copper sphere? The characters are not allowed to move unless they are connected to a power source, so WASD would be deliberately disabled until you supply power to that robot.

Archetype - Running Out of Power by cakemonitor 2017-08-03T13:23:27Z

@mcjammydodger - if you cut the power to the drawbridge mechanism too soon then it will stop moving but if you reconnect the power then it will come all the way down. However, you were one corner of a room away from completing the game so you pretty much saw everything :)

The Stonemont Chronicles by zedutchgandalf 2017-07-31T17:38:44Z

Great work. This is a fun game and it's very well written. Also, Godot! <3 On my first play-through I scored 60... I wasn't sure whether that's any good so I decided to compare it against another play-through where I just rapidly selected any response; on that second run I scored 130! So I guess I suck at ruling a kingdom! ;)

Power Ring Facility by Herman Chau 2017-08-01T10:13:43Z

Really great game! A nice original idea, very well executed, and crisp minimal visuals :) Also, made with Godot! <3 I got to 2.002 but then it got too difficult for me ;)

The Lunar Invasion by MCjammydodger 2017-08-02T18:04:11Z

It took me a while to 'get it', and it didn't help that I had some bad RNG to begin with so a lot of batteries were very hard to reach on my first try. However, once I gave it a few retries it became really compelling and I couldn't put it down. Good work! If you're planning to develop it further, I think it would be good if the aliens were more dangerous - as I sometimes felt it's fine to just let them carry me around for a while and it doesn't harm my progress (maybe have them steal batteries that you're carrying?), also the meteors can suddenly kill you out of the blue, so I think it would be good if they were slower but there were more of them - or perhaps create a health system (or 'space suit integrity' system) and have _loads_ of meteors which only do a little damage.

Running out of Sugar by Natrium729 2017-08-04T10:00:14Z

The graphical style is nice. As others have said, the game is a little too easy and goes on for quite a long time without changing. Consider having something like 30-second rounds with each round getting progressively harder.

Buzzy Bee by Estebe 2017-08-02T18:14:40Z

Nice work. I like the cartoon style of the background image.

The Big One by Likirus 2017-08-05T11:57:08Z

Interesting premise. I'm not sure if you're supposed to be able to interact with the bowls of food, but that would be a nice feature.

On Demand: Power by Remus 2017-07-31T15:20:42Z

Nice arena shooter! I don't think I should have bought the rifle when I did; it was the last of my money then I ran out of ammo half way through the boss fight! :) Good work!

Running out of steam by supremefist 2017-08-02T07:05:23Z

Very enjoyable, good job! The first time I tried the big hill I got to within about 10 pixels of the top but rolled all the way back down, however having run our of fuel & steam there didn't seem to be a way to restart the game? (I didn't remember escape goes to the menu, perhaps I should have done that). Anyway, I reloaded the page but now I cannot start the game at all!? Still, great stuff; very enjoyable :)

Midnight Manor by GeraldFIngBurke 2017-08-05T12:08:55Z

Nice concept and good pixel art :) I would have liked a little more time on the generator and/or for the game to pause whenever there's text to read.

< Mr. Plug > by Drachmor 2017-07-31T09:10:58Z

Nice game, and a good difficulty balance too, although the first section of level three (jumping between pink sections) was a bit tough.

Toast Up! by gwinnell 2017-07-31T13:36:47Z

The game could benefit from a little balancing because after the first two 'balloon-stages' the enemies seem to no longer produce any energy cubes(?!) let alone steal them, so it seems the best way to earn is to repeatedly just do the first two stages and deliberately die, then do one big run when all the upgrades are in. However, the graphics are nicely stylised, the sound effects are fitting, and the music is suitably upbeat. I also like the mechanic where you can risk delaying an important shot to try to touch more energy cubes.

Lost Cluster by Raymoclaus 2017-08-05T12:18:22Z

Nice and atmospheric. I found the controls a bit odd at first; I was expecting forward for thrust and left and right for rotate anticlockwise and clockwise respectively. Also apart from the two very obvious batteries right at the start I only found one other battery in two entire play-throughs.

iPowerless by Norakio 2017-08-01T17:29:45Z

Nice work. I think if the rooms & enemies totally reset when you entered it would be too hard, but seeing as you can take out one enemy then leave & re-enter the room to take down another after everyone's positions have reset it's quite manageable. That felt like an odd way of playing at first, but there's something quite satisfying about the urgency of it. Nice pixel art and a great UI. For a first game jam this is a really great game!

Winter has come by GistNoesis 2017-07-31T14:45:06Z

Initially this felt quite confusing - in particular I wasn't sure whether temperature had anything to do with power consumption so I didn't know whether to try increasing the temperature. Also, I couldn't tell whether there anything I can do about degradation or if that just a time limit on the game. I played multiple times and eventually got the power, research, and food stats all increasing while running on just mining (after wood & oil had run out) but the maintenance stat ran out long before I could plant 1 tree, let alone 1000! I think you could help players learn by slowing the speed of the game and only introducing text and buttons as they become relevant; i.e. once you have enough research to mine coal for the first time that is when the topic of mining should be first shown to the player - including the costs and benefits. Still, this was an interesting game that felt engaging to play. It reminded me of A Dark Room :)

LD44 — Your life is currency

Once Upon A Plague by icxon 2019-05-05T09:42:12Z

This is one of the most fun games I've played from this LD so far, good job! It would be good if the health pick-ups had a bigger hit-box because I sometimes had to walk over the same one three times before I could actually pick it up! The game became a little easy when I realised that I could just kite the enemies around. Maybe consider using a few enemies that are a lot faster than the players to force use of grenades/traps. Also, It'd be good if my units stayed selected even after I'd told them to move, and for me to be able to select several at once (say, via shift-select or box-dragging). As it was it seemed the main challenge in the game was fighting against the control scheme: rapidly pressing 1-right-click-2-right-click-3-right-click-4-right-click...

Robot Town by quadtree 2019-05-13T09:33:32Z

Nice work. I think a little more ambient light would help because the areas in shade appeared pitch black.

Graveyard Ghost by Jesús González 2019-05-09T08:53:05Z

Great looking game. Good job.

Carl Currency - Expert Exchanger by yazara 2019-05-03T12:43:39Z

A slow-burn puzzler that's compelling to play through. Very nice graphics too. Good job! :)

BULLDOZERS! FROM OUTER SPACE by auxC 2019-04-30T18:50:34Z

The game both looks and sounds great. The gameplay was fun, although at the start it was confusing and by the end (as in: by how far I could get) it felt too hard. a little more balancing and being forgiving of new players would help a lot. Overall though, great work! :)

Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno 2019-05-03T09:55:50Z

Good job! And a good pun too :) The victory screen for 1,000 cultists appeared abruptly and without fanfare so at first I thought I'd lost! Also, as other have said, this game is crying out for hotkeys! Other than that, excellent work.

Temple of Life by ProdigalSon 2019-05-05T08:26:55Z

More often than not I couldn't move at all when a level started - this happened 80% of the time for level 1 and 100% of the time for level 2 - I restarted over and over, and even reloaded the game a few times (playing the web version on itch.io) but I was not able to experience level 2 at all - other than seeing the initial room layout. I've not left ratings because it wouldn't be fair to judge based on that experience.

Pucamuc by Mors 2019-05-03T10:53:52Z

Overall this was a really solid entry. The music was awesome, the graphics were great, and the gameplay concept was very good. However, I wish there were a few little changes to take some of the frustration out of it. For example, I understand that the character can only move by jumping but when some of the puzzles and navigation require a near pixel-perfect setup it's annoying to have to make a series of several small jumps while just tapping left or right to get into position - so being able to walk very slowly would *really* help but wouldn't compromise on the design vision. Also, I think the game should have a checkpoint at each baby so even if you hit the gameover state you can restart from the last one (or maybe choose any of the baby screens completed so far). This is because I got the first two babies but then while trying and retrying one single challenge I lost all of my blood and hit game over. Have to redo the same content from scratch annoyed me a bit, but then when I was half-way through the game and hit the same problem - just retrying a single punishing single screen cost me +15 blood so I hit game over again, well I had no motivation at all to replay the initial content for a third time just to probably hit the exact same problem over and over again before being able to win. This just sucked all the fun out of what was otherwise one of the best entries I've seen so far (and by a wide margin at that!). I think with a few small edits this game could be utterly amazing :)

Haemogoblin by Dorkulon 2019-05-12T07:23:38Z

I was sold on the title alone. Really great game on all fronts. Good job! :)

jon needs 10$ by schrunkin 2019-04-30T18:07:14Z

This was a lot of fun, and quite compelling to explore too - I replayed a few times and got three different endings. It also reminded me of Hidden Folk :)

I struggled a little at the beginning while trying to figure out the controls. For the next jam, even if you didn't have time to make an in-game tutorial, it would have been good to see a simple text file in the zip or just on the ldjam page.

Overall, very nice for a few days work. Good job!

Lifeforms In Space by Eric Smith 2019-04-30T18:33:40Z

Very nice work. It took a bit of time to get into and I had to restart the game to re-read the instructions after I found engagements to be kind of confusing. It would be great to see a tutorial with, say, a half-size map and just two or three planets while the instructions are displayed alongside (maybe even context-sensative instructions depending on the game state), then after the tutorial unleash the bigger complex challenge onto players.

King's Alchemist by Vlad Dae 2019-05-03T13:31:56Z

The game looks great, the iconography works well, and it's good fun to play. I lost first time but it felt very fair so I was compelled to retry and get the win. A little audio would have helped a lot. Also I think it would be nice if you could leave the book open on a particular page (i.e. see those two recipe pages but smaller in the corner of the screen)

Rollin' Bonez by J. H. Freedman 2019-05-13T09:38:16Z

I've never played craps before so I had no idea what the dice rolls meant. So some further explanation or a tutorial would really help players who don't already know the game. Otherwise, the graphics and audio were good.

Blood Quest by shaner421 2019-05-03T13:10:54Z

The 8-way movement was looked and felt good for a game jam, the music was nice, and the game felt fun to play. It was a bit confusing at times - i.e. what were the 3 sliding blocks for? I also fought a non-boss character and got an item but I had no way of telling what it was.

Chaos Indeed by STREETGEEK 2019-05-05T07:47:26Z

This game looks good and the music is nice. I found the controls took a while to get used to - especially when the player has to act very quickly if an asteroid appears on the opposite side of the planet because a single hit from even a small asteroid can be immediate game over. I would consider having each asteroid to hit the planet do a single amount of damage based on its size and then get destroyed. Still, very good overall and especially for your first game game.

Blood and goods by selewi 2019-05-09T08:41:59Z

Great looking game! But that game over screen is s...o... ... s...l...o...w... it's literally quicker to quit and reload the game!! The balance seems off (or maybe I'm just really bad at it) andthe best strategy seemed to be never fight, never purchase, and hope for good RNG at fountains.

Escape from Hell by Becher 2019-05-03T10:20:05Z

This was fun to play althouth I wish movement speed was a bit faster and that the attack animation didn't stop movement - I wanted to run and swipe at the same time! It would also be good if there was more of a progression system, say more variety in the 'blob' creatures such as a different size or colour tint, and with increasing toughness & damage ability as well as amount of souls they drop. Then the upgrades could cost more each time (say, +1 point costs 30% of current value rounded up). That would make the player feel like they are becoming more bad-ass rather than just repeating the same thing. Still - just a thought. Overall good job :)

Necromancer Duel by redmountainman1 2019-05-05T08:13:31Z

There's some very interesting potential to this game but the AI isn't satisfying to play against; a good computer-controlled opponent should be designed to put up a good fight and then lose (if the player has played to an ok standard). A little randomness to simulate AI mistakes might help with this, say every turn there's a 10% chance that the AI acts as if the blue necromancer is on a random empty spot on the board.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Efi by ludipe 2020-04-24T20:16:31Z

Loved it - really good fun. On seeing the description I thought: "oh, this one's described as a 'short' game - that's good because I haven't got long" Some time later... 2020-04-24 21_12_39-Efi by Ludipe.png

Kingdom Trainee by ukirain 2020-04-30T21:47:10Z

The art really drew me in to this. I didn't understand why some of the events and chocies were a bad match. The music was nice too :)

Chicky's Delivery Service by Jelle Vermandere 2020-05-05T21:20:08Z

Nice job. It would be great to take control of the next object sooner. Say, the the instant the egg has left the bounding box just above the provious object then control switches to the next object, or something. It would be fun to be able to try to catch the egg and recover from a misaligned fall! Nice visuals too, the faces drawn on the eggs are a good addition :)

Square Loves Circle! by meelo 2020-04-29T19:21:05Z

Nice job overall. The puzzles were good and the music was great. I didn't get past the "seemingly impossible" level, though I felt like I - the player - knew how to solve it, but the character controls were a bit to awkward for me to be able to do what I wanted. If you take it further, then imho I'd recommend making the acceleration and deceleration forces higher so the controls are a bit more snappy, and consider a higher 'gravity' force when the player is decending/falling than when accending/jumping (like Mario has). I was really compelled to keep playing but after several dozen attempts I couldn't get past the level mentioned above. Still, nice work :)

Luna The Woodcutter by Floxnu 2020-04-30T07:46:11Z

Very nice. It can feel a bit like progress is made by accident so maybe a kind of breadcrumb trail would help guide the player - e.g. early in the game nudge them towards seeing the chest that is enclosed by rocks so that when they get the pickaxe they can for a meaningful plan rather than just eventually bump into it. Just my two cents. The mood was nice, neat graphics and calming music. Nice job :)

One of the best I've played so far! Really nicely done :)

Dryad's Quest by Cyborg Studio 2020-10-06T10:45:53Z

Very nice. The mood and graphical style are great. Clearly you were emulating a retro point and click style, so maybe the choice was deliberate but I'd like to see the delivery of text modernised a bit.

[while'd] by Celuloide 2020-10-06T20:15:31Z

The game looks and feels great but the conditions were hard to understand and the game was quite punishing - both in terms of difficulty curve and in forcing me to re-watch the rules screen - which often takes longer to get through than the playing the level itself! Still, really nice work overall :)
