Good starting point for a bigger project. Something was problematic for me though: On my set up the walking speed seems linked to the keyboard repeat rate rather than direct key press. This is a shame because the playability is impacted. I would probably have spent longer exploring if it wasn't for this.
This was my last review for the night (3 in the morning). Glad I got this in before sleeping. Excellent entry all round.
Had an alignment and screen fitting problem. Also, wasn't sure what to do. Nice music.
Wasn't sure what I was doing. Whatever it was, it seemed well put together.
Good concept. Bit buggy with the moons but fun when they work.
Woah that was tougher than NES silver surfer. Tightly put together though so was impressed.
I originally wanted every pixel to take you to a unique but fixed world. On each world you were to collect strange creatures and plants. After collecting I intended to have the player place them in their own Pixel-life zoo. The zoo would get quite colourful after a while and the creatures or plants would breed with each other to create new life.
When I started to create the creatures and plants in Photoshop I realised it was going to take to long. I was already tired from not sleeping much Friday night so I backtracked, ditched some of the partially made content and went for something simple and quick.
Thanks for the award. That made my day and has had me smiling and chuckling for the last 1/2 hour. :D
The whac-a-mole decision is what came of asking myself, "Given only a few hours left in LD and no game yet, what's the quickest and easiest thing you could pull off just to finish?" My first idea was an animation of a giant monster suddenly attacking the screen but I figured that's not *really* a game.
Good fun game. The difficulty ramps up a little too quickly imo.
This would be great as a Wario Ware style mini game. Had fun with the simple but difficult to perfect mechanics. Directional audio was a curious touch.
Good entry. Ambitious for 48hrs given how many factors were at play here. The way gravity was handled worked nicely. 3D models were appealing. The rotating background almost gave me motion sickness!
I always find instant death a bit distracting. Having three 'lives' per game would make it smoother to play imo.
Excellent mix of classic ideas. Was a lot of fun to play and the polish was a real stand-out factor.
Fun, curious game. Even though I don't quite understand what some of it is I like the fact there is so much going on.
Excellent idea executed beautifully. My favourite game so far.
Cute. Does the difficulty scale? I lasted a long time and ended up committing suicide by hurling the world into the sun.
I thought this was well put together and fun for a 48hr game. It would be excellent if taken further.
My first thought was, "Uh oh! This one wants me to read and play a turn-based game. I'm in a rush, etc." However, it was worth a little investment of time. I enjoyed the story, the events and decision making and the music was so good it kind of carried the whole game along with it. The central turn-based game was intuitive and fun.
Once I gained ant enlightenment and could levitate nothing could stop me.
I'm getting a dropbox 500 error when I try to download. Here is the text:-

The theme was creatively interpreted in a wonderful way.
Loved it. Fun to watch and imagine how to further add to and play with the mechanics.
Very hard but interesting gameplay. Its great that this was made entirely on an Android device.
Right click trap placement was a feature at one point. Arrow key control over Darwin was too. I disabled them because I was experimenting with a touchscreen friendly control scheme. Bit dumb really, since I haven't compiled for Android yet and the majority of people who play the game will play a desktop version. *rolls eyes*
@cakemonitor originally I wanted to have enemies, e.g. rival naturalists who would attack Darwin, mess with his traps and place their own trap. Unfortunately I ran out of time before I could finish that. It could have been worse. I wondered whether I was going to get more than just birds flying around with nothing to actually play. I was going to suggest if you watched them long enough they would evolve in realistic real time.
Played very nicely.
Does the game have dependencies on installed libraries, game engines or similar? I keep getting 'Unexpected error occurred when running the game.' System is Win7 64bit and reasonably fresh installation, e.g. 2 weeks old.
Great looking little game :)
Clever idea. I imagine it could've worked well as a mini-game embedded in a larger whole.
Very good basic mechanic for a space exploration/warfare game of some sort. I'm sure many will now steal it after having played it. ;)
BTW after reading "DO NOT MAKE INFINITE LOOPS WITH BUTTONS (really, don't)" the effect was a bit like trying not to think of pink elephants. So, yes, I crashed my browser.
Good stuff. Although it takes a lot longer to review a game like this I appreciated the writing. Was very immersed in the exploration of the spaceship.
I know the author says he feels like its unfinished but given the time limit it seems like a lot was achieved. I have to rate this highly.
This was a lot of fun. My collectors seemed to be getting stuck on the scenery but it didn't stop me progressing.
Not sure what I just played but I shot a lot of things. :)
That was really weird and actually quite fun.
p1x3lruckus thanks for letting us know. Which browser and OS are you using? Firefox, Chrome and IE11 are working for me here on Win7 64 bit.
Got to level 27. Excellent little game. Great sound, too.
Middle way I said, "I'm too good at this. I'm never gonna die." Then I started dying and DIDN'T STOP. :p
Its so hard! Ended up by running off the screen over and over until I was given one with almost no cactus plants. :)
For some reason on the first two attempts I couldn't get through level 1. Eventually the cars just stopped coming and I was driving down the road forever. Anyway, good overall, and impressive to have so many levels given the time limit of LD.
For some reason I couldn't get any sound. Plays smoothly though
Good innovation, fun to try to solve, good music and looks pretty for a LD compo game. Had to use the walkthrough in the end. :)
Its like I was actually in a laundromat, getting annoyed at how long it was taking to wash clothes. Good, funny concept. Next game: Garbage day.
Interesting to see a live multiplayer game. Next you'll be doing server interpolation :)
This is the kind of thing that is good about LD. Short, sweet and well crafted for a Jam entry. Took me a bit to work out the mechanics. Felt so bad when the bear died. :(
Can't play it so won't score it. Have Java 1.7 on 64bit Windows 7. Looks like it would have been really interesting. :)
Not bad for a first game.
GUI is buggy and its a bit...suspicious that the snowman theme is used XD Better entry than most I've played tonight though!
I think the person who mentioned the bow thought you had to fully charge it before shooting, because I did that at first before realising it wasn't necessary each time. Play Skyrim. Oh, and well done on the game. Keep up the Unity work. :)
Refreshingly different ideas here. Liked it a lot. I sucked at scaring people but delighting people turned out to be my thing. Good going.
Couldn't play. Kept crashing when I open LD31. I have Win7 64 bit. Compatibility modes didn't seem to help. Won't score it but I really like the look of this! Trading games are awesome. Seems like this might be a bit like Space Trader (ancient game). Here is error report

Really like to see this kind of experimentation in a LD game. At one point I was being attacked by three enemies at once. Loved that. This could be developed into something much bigger I think.
You packed in a lot of action for a LD game. Reminded me a bit of Mega Man.
What I liked: The horror setting, sound and fixed camera position for atmosphere. What I didn't like: Kept restarting without an indication why. Also, putting a kind of tv screen as a frame isn't really trying to fit with the theme imo. Still, great going. Keep it up. :)
Beautiful graphics and music. I didn't shoot the guy, then I played again and did. So I have done all the things!
Dang. Keep just getting the message 'a Java Exception has occurred.' So, I won't rate it but it looks like it would have been fun. :)
I immediately died. Not once, but six times. Pretty fun, but what's this I hear about a bark attack? I mashed some keys, but never barked. It works, though. Nice going!
Could have used more mechanics and more player control. Leveling up with a second attack was good, towards the end.
I love that the "quit" button doesn't work. I played about four billion times.
For such a simple game this was really hard to work out. Heh, maybe its just me. Good innovation.
Nice concept. Had some trouble changing from foreground to background, etc. Still got quite far, though.
Good mood for a game. I kind of wish there were more game mechanics to play with but this is LD, so things are going to be minimal.
Living in a starry cubeeeeee.
Short but sweet. Good design, worked well, enjoyed it to the end.
Great audio and visual style. Like others have said, the controls were a bit difficult but overall this was an awesome entry.
Works well. This sort of thing could develop into a much bigger game. The random cards were interesting, though I wish I could collect play my own cards sometimes. Still, great for a LD game. Thanks.
I hate when kids randomly appear and start attacking the wall of hope.
Excellent little game.
Great writing. Really got into the story. Music is a nice composition and added to the experience. At first I was wondering when the game was going to start but then I got pulled in and realised it was a visual novel (I read your game description, heh.) Glad you could click to reveal the text before it stopped being written out. I'm a fast reader.
The visual displays at the bottom could have done with clearer indications about who was speaking in some scenes, or changes of expression to hold interest, because for the most part I ended up concentrating on the text. Also, it took me a little while to realise that sound had ceased to exist, too. Blame wine. I'm a bit drunk because I'm finally done with my own entry!
Anyway, I really enjoyed that. It will also be one of the longer times I'll spend on a LD entry this time around. Also, don't vomit on ambassadors from Vancouver. We're lovely.
Its not clear whether or not the music is original (which is great). I can't score it for audio without knowing that, but I'll score the rest.
Good sound and interesting take on tetris style game. Seemed a bit hard but like most LD games its experimental so you have to build it to see what it would be like. Impressive stuff.
Power ups, enemies disguised as walls, increasing difficulty, this game has it all!
The 'breaking the game' effect was an interesting addition, given the time constraints of LD.
Very good indeed!
Yup. Point well made. Well crafted given the time.
Very short but well crafted. Music overlapped with other sound later. Shame because the music was great.
Loved it for so many reasons. One of the games I've liked most. The whole retro look and sound was well mastered.
