LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Snow, Wolves, and Explosive Arrows by HeroesGrave 2014-12-10T21:12:00

really cool interpretation of the theme. i love that it panics if you try to move the window off-screen!

the sandbox (or snowbox?) gameplay was entertaining, but it made me wish there were some "real" content.

$2000-$3fff by ianh 2014-12-10T21:24:00

didn't think i'd see anything like this in ludum dare! the gameplay was not especially exciting but the concept was good enough to be one of the most interesting entries i've played so far. was fun to play a few times and see the different ways things would break.

also, hello greasemonkey!

Drillguy 0F-8 by jcmoyer 2014-12-13T20:20:00

Interesting concept, but probably not the best implementation (well, that's a game jam for you). Sounds were a bit annoying; music might have helped there. Pretty good for 24 hours and had a classic arcade feel.

Stalactite by Lycaon 2014-12-12T23:46:00

Not much to do, collision was glitchy, and music was repetitive. Sorry!

Heartbreak by elemel 2014-12-12T00:23:00

Made it to level 3. I loved the color scheme. The bricks falling & breaking was cool. Nothing too new here, but a solid playable game.

Zombie Simulator 2014 by barrucadu 2014-12-13T20:34:00

Cool idea. I'd like to see more strategy games like this in LD. The main problems I had with it were that the pace was very slow, the pathing for the survivors seemed buggy or confusing, and the interface wasn't really intuitive. The buttons in the corner could have used some explanation, or at least a highlighted state if all selected units are in that state. Would have also been nice to have some sound and/or ambient music.

PicoMachines by Salamander3 2014-12-12T23:55:00

Interesting idea, but it doesn't really adhere to the theme (imo). Camera was buggy and AI was, uh, funny! I liked the basic mechanics/physics though. Could have used some music.

Erik Martin by mindlesslump 2014-12-13T00:07:00

The core gameplay had potential, but it was hurt by the paranoid hitboxes combined with the lack of feedback for being hit. Also, it doesn't seem like there's any way to get out of the credits screen!

Viewport by DeltaF1 2014-12-13T00:10:00

As you said, not really a game, and the collisions were messed up indeed. I liked the viewport effect though and it's a shame that you didn't do more with it.

The Condor by JNT 2014-12-13T00:24:00

Negotiation was a cool idea. Small blemishes: the starting point seemed unnecessarily far from the action, the constant shooting was annoying and negated any audio cue you would get from it, "fog of war" didn't fully cover the enemies sometimes, and it was very difficult to use the shotgun to kill enemies that were adjacent to hostages. Other than that it's a pretty solid, playable game for a game jam. Having to keep moving to dodge bullets was fun.

Too Many Cooks by squeaky-clean 2014-12-10T20:17:00

as the instructions in README.md say, you'll need python 3 to run the source code (it's not valid python 2). however, the code can trivially be made to run in python 2. i put a patch at: http://jangler.info/drop/0001-Change-calls-to-super-to-be-valid-in-python2.patch

use `git am` to apply the patch.

Arena of Cube by maxyan 2014-12-07T21:07:00

looks like the linux version is missing fonts? the UI at the end was blank.

PC WARS by Lafolie 2014-12-13T21:03:00

Professional presentation. Graphics in particular were well-done, and having a decent AI is impressive. It would have been nice to get to know the game in stages rather than being thrown in head-first, but it's hard to have time for a tutorial in a game jam.

Galaxy Force by KK 2014-12-13T19:59:00

Functional game, decent graphics, and funny sound effects. Not much strategy involved, though--if you just keep clicking you'll always do fine.

Klieu - Cargo Carrier by chipcaramel 2014-12-11T23:39:00

Had a cool atmosphere and felt like it had a lot of potential. Not much real "gameplay", but exploring the ship was fun. Took me a while to figure out how to jump down through the floors. I felt like if the time had been managed better (i.e. few fully implemented features instead of many partially-implemented features) then this could have been a cool game.

BaG by Kwarf 2014-12-10T20:32:00

shadows were cool, but the gameplay was lacking and didn't really take advantage of the tech.

A Gore-y Election by iggyvolz 2014-12-10T20:36:00

connection refused! you should upload your files to a "cloud" service and link to the files there.

Pieces by XxNiCeBuTtxX 2014-12-13T20:09:00

Lovely graphics and good sound. Movement was too fast and slippery for my taste, making some of the jumps hard to make. Global high-scores was a nice touch for a game jam. Nothing new mechanically, but overall a very solid entry.

Jumpy Cowboy by hator 2014-12-11T23:53:00

Often died a moment after a level started. Never got past all 5 cacti. Most patterns seemed impossible. The graphics are nice.

Silverwarrior by jangler 2014-12-12T02:44:00

Thanks for the in-depth feedback! I had wondered if people would figure out the utensils. I intentionally left them unexplained. Forks and knives are deadly, and knives can pass through and hit multiple enemies, but spoons are inert (unless you have a certain power-up).

Maze runner by chathony01 2014-12-12T00:00:00

Got an error on start:
X Error of failed request: GLXBadRenderRequest.

You also probably didn't need to include the .git/ files in the source. They're an extra 19M unpacked.

Asteroid Miner by pbdiode 2014-12-10T20:51:00

i got all the resources via the same method as gwilym. the ship/asteroid ship detection was pretty paranoid, so it was difficult to pilot the ship, and i just stayed stationary until most of the asteroids were destroyed. i thought it would've been fun to be hit by your own lasers.

sound was loud!

Orient Ation by Miltage 2014-12-10T19:59:00

graphics and music were simple and effective. would have been nice to be able to drag pieces from cell to cell on the floor instead of having to click them and then place them again. also would have been fun to have to place the belts while food is rolling out and adapt in real time.

it's quite easy to get stuck though, since the restart button doesn't take food away from customers that got food. next time food rolls out, they won't take it since they're already eating, making the level unbeatable.

haha @ the similarity between the previous comment and mine
