zip download seems invalid or corrupted
nevermind, my bad. Can't locate the source though. Oh, see you are adding it soon.
is it possible to provide an exe that can be run without an installer? installers suck for this compo.
"Music" by Wolfram.
Who is wolfram and you know it is one person only for compo entry including all resources, right?
Haha my bad. Amazing game!
Can't locate the source code
wow, shockwave? Haven't seen that in a while. Thought that adobe killed that off.
What was it like to program in? You said you used javascript?
I was getting about 250 frames per second in chrome, pretty damn fast for a web app.
wow, didn't know that. Kinda sad to see it go. If it's insanely productive, keep using it! Your game is really nice, I've seen much worse in Unity.
can't locate the source
Actually found the source here: www.mikecann.co.uk/DumpingGround/ld/18/05/LudumDare18.zip
Mike, nice game, is that your own custom flash engine?
Wow, I just clicked the jar and it worked. Boggles the mind that it is java and just ran so easily. What framework did you use? Version of java?
source is missing or zip is corrupted.
The source files are available at the bottom of the site with the game on (the code is crazy messy so don't stare at it too long...)
Hmm, I still get a 404 error when I click or right click that link. Thx.
when I click the links it says 'documents not available'.
can't use music like that. all resources have to be made during the comp.

I love this game. Great job. Fun to play. Great music too.

I agree with jakkarth. Fun game, but I was waiting for it to switch colors on me. Would make it more challenging and would be so simple to do. As it is, it is kind of a color recognition test.
can't locate the source.
source not downloading for me yet, maybe try another free service.
got it, all good

Haha, this was a "literal" interpretation of the theme enemies as weapons. Clever.
Great game. Amazing considering the time available. I would like to see this fleshed out as a full game.
Especially effective was the algorithm you used to generate the floor (really felt like I was descending into the abyss). Also, the graphics effect that made it look like you are in water is great.
I didn't get it. I thought I was just picking random ones to create the alien. Did I miss something?
Ok, thanks for that info. Learning about Unity deployment ;) I have recreated the zip file with the Data directory. I tested it in an isolated folder so I think it should work now.
I just fixed a couple bugs, no new levels, so it is close enough to rate if the kongregate version is all you have access to. The only thing it really fixes is the jerkiness you will notice if you don't have a fast computer.
Just maybe mark it down a little from where that version is and you will be safe.
clever game. I like it, but there were some bugs. At one point I was controlling two squares.
numpad wasn't working for me sometimes. I tried many times. Sometimes I could get it to work for a while, but then it froze (numpad stopped working). Sometimes I spawned on an island.
Game looks like fun though. I would have liked it I think. Maybe too ambitious for a 48 hour contest.
cute game. I really like the character graphics and animations. You are an expert with working effectively with some amounts of pixels.
Also impressed that you generated the game levels. That keeps it fresh.
Combat is fun and I love drawing the enemies into the spikes.
Even though it is a familiar genre, you made clever innovations to keep it fresh.
Thx. Wow, I can't believe you got the good ending without running into one of the bad ones first. Actually some of the best meat of the story is in the death scenes. You find out a lot about the nasty creatures, what they are and what they do to people, etc.
winterblood, that's pretty good idea actually. I'll see if I can add some of that into the iphone verson. Also, i agree you definitely should be able to skip parts you have already been through. I would have put that in if I had time.
thanks guys so much for the ideas. I don't give a darn about ratings, but please keep your constructive criticisms and ideas flowing.
So far I have.
Speed up narrator
Offer subtitle option
atmospheric images/paintings for each chapter
disable/enable music and disable/enable narration
uncensored or profanity free options
rewriting story (this was of course just a rough draft)
micro choices. That is for each chapter have 1-3 player options that just slightly affect a few lines of the story, such as what is a player's favorite flower or favorite food or do they smoke, etc. Then integrate those micro-decisions into the story.
These are great ideas that I'll integrate into the mobile version. Anything else?
ok, that is just crazy good for a 48 hour game. You guys must work as a team professionally right?
just downloaded the source but didn't see the actual game code in there. did you intend on releasing it?
I didn't manage to finish, but I did enjoy this game. Especially nice since it was made in JS and I don't like that many JS games.
The music and one color background helped create an effectively creepy ambience.
The jumping puzzles were tough but fun. I really felt like a mountain climber trying to find the next position for my foot.
I felt like if it had been done in flash it might have been a bit smoother and maybe some lighting and smoking effects for the background could have been added which probably wasn't really feasible with JS.
Good show!
Yeah, it's a little tricky. I would have put in some easy levels, but I ran out of time of course.
When you put the boulder in th cannon, it should shot into the crane. Then go from there.
Btw, the "crumbling boulder" issue can be avoid it you wait more than six seconds to release th boulder. Wait like 10 to be safe.
btw, don't be dismayed by dying in this game. You were meant to die maybe 200 times before solving the level.
If you jump on the cannon thing below the crane, it should load the rock. The rock then should fire automatically out of the cannon. You should hear a sound too to confirm you did something correct.
Don't like games based on dying? That was the whole 80s man. I must be getting old. Sigh.
Ok, walkthrough added. I'm sorry I overlooked difficulty guys. Next time I will be more aware of it.
What ad? I never see ads? Hmm, maybe I need to stop using kongregate. I just use it to to get extra feedback. I don't make any money off this junk. I usually remove the games from congregate after a couple months anyway.
I think I'll reconsider using kongregate in the future. It's annoying cause fullscrren doesn't work Iin google chrome for me anyway.
It's hard but not unplayable. Lots of people have beat it. The only bug that that I know of that hinders winning is that you have to wait 10 seconds before dropping a rock.
I'll do a video walkthrough to show how easy it actually is.
Ok, I've made a video walkthrough that should help:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/08/30/video-walkthrough-for-scratchy-get-out/
I love that you used processing and I love mythology games. That said, I think the controls were a little floaty for my liking. I didn't really feel like I had the control of the character that I needed.
Got stuck on mountain side so couldn't finish game.
The attack was very inventive. At first I couldn't figure out what the point of use the left mouse button was, but then I realized I seemed to be able to control the point of attack by moving the mouse. It was fun and reminded me a of jedi fight (or maybe sith).
Wow, what a great art style this game has. I love the use of the sun in the background and the way it colors everything. And the sand storm is a wonderful effect. Looks great, and it shows that native apps are still worthwhile, because I don't think this would have been nearly as smooth in flash or html. Great job.
Really liked the concept of this. There's something interesting about stepping off into the unknown and having no idea what you are going to see next, if anything.
Wow, I bookmarked this baby! Fantastic game: quirky, original concept, fun as hell, deceptively tricky. You have a winner here. I don't know if there are other games out there like it but if not you should do a version for the app stores. I think it might do well.
Loved the story and the narration. The voice reminded me of Edward Norton. Did a good job with setting and mood. Great game.
Oh, I loved this game! Great job! This is game I could definitely go back and play some more. I wish things were a little bigger so I could see them better though. That's my only complaint. Otherwise fun and polished game with appropriate graphics.
What framework did you use to make this in, btw?
Oh flixel, awesome. Are you considering releasing the source? I would love to see what the source code looks like on such a professional game.
Really strong entry. Amazing graphics. In fact incredible graphics. Still trying to get through it but gameplay seems fun so far. Feels like a classic arcade game. Fantastic job!
Loved this game. Somehow as I got into this I realized it was going to be the game equivalent of one of those videos that you focus on and then in the end a monster jumps out at you. Especially because it got harder to see so I had to focus so much more to do anything. I'm a sucker for this kind of game. Great job!
Could not get to work on chrome or safari on macbook pro snowlion
Fine idea. Couldn't get through the platforming.
Unfinished game, but think there is potential. Would like to see where you take it.
Simple game. Simple graphics. Sorta fun. I got stuck on the dance like MJ level. Still wondering what to do on that level. I know I'm missing something.
Unfinished but shows promise. It is one of the smoothest html5 games I've played in a while. Feels like a flash game. Sound works well too. The tune is fun. I'll definitely have to check out whatever html5 engine you're using.
Amazing concept and execution. More a sim than a game. Still I found it fascinating and beautiful. Great job!
Simple game, but enjoyed it. Got about 10 levels in and then got stuck. At first it was surprising and fun because I'd never played anything like it. But after a while, it got repetitive and I just ended up smashing all the keys on the keyboard to figure out the keys.
Clever concept for game, but didn't grab me as being fun. Still, definitely well executed game for time frame. Good job.
This is a great game. Took me back to the time of the early 90s quarter munchers. Obviously, it helps to have a big team. Is this the biggest ever on a ludumdare? Anyway, good job. Very fun, although much too short of course. You should continue this one and put it on steam or something.
This game just goes to show you that you don't need great graphics or tons of polish to make a fun game. This game is just fun, no other way to describe it, in a hit my head in the forehead kind of way. So many times I got close to the top, but then my luck would change and I would end up rapidly falling near the bottom. Arrrgh. Still fun though, good job.
Nice unity game. These dodge obstacle while running game are always fun. Not original. But I like the "evolution" game play aspect that added a lot more challenge to it. Nice job.
The gameplay is simple, but fun. I like the graphics. I like the atmosphere. I like the multiple scrolling backdrops. But the game makes me sad. Why is my body decaying and falling apart as I move through the level? It makes me very sad.
Really enjoyed this game. Played it quite a bit. Great idea. Super fun graphics.
Wow, cute little role playing game. Simple, but kinda fun really. Certainly more fun than "questing" on zombie jombie! I wish there was more of a story to keep me wanting to move forward in the game.
Funny as hell. This is true creativity. Keep this up!
Liked this one a lot. Really nice work. Graphics, sound and game play polish. It was an interesting concept. Seems really hard though to survive a wave.
Mach, that's a bug. Once you have it open you are set. Now you just got to figure out what to do from there. You are doing great! Can't wait to see if you like the ending.
Raul was supposed to give hints and details of the backstory as you played the game, but I ran out of it. Hints got left out. I'll give hints on here, if you run into any particular things you can't get past.
ps, mach, let me know if you want more of a hint on what to do next and I'll give it to ya.
yettatore, what computer(or device)/os/browser are you using?
I just checked it and it's up. Is it still not working for you?
hint for popcorn: try searching around. it is where you think it is.
Has anyone made it to the Kat-A-Klone machine yet? That's where I think it starts getting interesting ;)
Hint for seed card: where do we sometimes lose stuff in real life?
Anther time. The command SAVE creates a URL with all your state so you can resume the game at that point at any time.
Another tip I mean.
RxiI, where did you get stuck? Did you get through part one, getting some sleep?
rxi, you got to figure out where to use the grenade.
Try this, 'attach grenade to [something that looks like it's in your way]'.
I think I added "place" too as a verb. Good luck!
Ah, but did you survive? That can only be done through evolution, lol, or at least DNA merger.
Raptor85, yeah I agree, I put in the basics to solve the adventure, but there's an endless about of details and actions I could add with the proper amount of time. 20+ rooms is really ambitious for a 48 hour contest. What I'm doing is capturing the transcript of everyone's play and I'm going to go through them when the contest is over and use that information to fill out the game. The transcripts provide great information on what people are actually trying to do in the game.
For example someone typed 'cook' in the kitchen, and I should have a response for that, but the game currently doesn't even understand the verb cook.
Jamiebell,
As I mentioned just before the end of voting, i intended to put it up just before voting ended. The natural language source reads like a cheat guide. I wanted to give people a chance to solve it without having the option to cheat.
That said, it looks like some people have already solved it, so I'll put it up shortly.
Source added.
Oh man, looking at these transcripts is amazing help.
I found a bug with the popcorn, and i realize right away where I need to give more hints.
Worse of all someone made it right to the end and then got stuck in the Kat-a-Klone machine because of a bug.
I think I'll be able to improve it greatly. Thanks for all the feedback and playthroughs guys.
Fun game. Really innovative. Reminded me a little bit of angry birds, pool and pinball combined. Nice work.
Cute concept and graphics. Found the short time to find a new mate a little irritating. Also, I could never get jumping to work I think. But still really well done.
Really like this game. Good job! Very polished. I got stuck on the first island because I couldn't figure out how to fly off of it. Every time I tried, no matter what I did, I would turn around and fly back for some reason.
Still, good game.
Great game. At first I was annoyed by the jumping, but them after a while I just accepted the physics and started to understand the way the world worked. It turned out to be challenging and fun and I can't recall playing anything quite like it. Really nice job!
Very cute and fun game. I actually really enjoyed the scale of the large playfield. Graphics reminded me in a good way of joust. Just wish there was some sound and music. Great game still.
Good game. I liked the graphics. But I didn't really know what was going on with the powerups. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to catch them or avoid them. I mostly tried to avoid them. Also, not sure what objective was because after a while, there were no more girls for me to touch.
Really impressed with entry, especially considering it was done with C++. Fun game. Getting an in-game editor in there is amazing work. Great job!
Any game with ninjas is cool. Reminded me a lot of that game mode by the guy who created flixel. Music a tad hectic. Too many enemies for me to get too far. Can you finish a level, or do you just keep fighting until you die?
Enjoyed this game. Quite challenging! Good job.
Great game mechanism. Quite creative idea. Great children's game. Not really a challenge though. Nicely polished. Great work!
Very fun take on a popular genre of game. Clever use of cat's nine lives, lol. This is one of the best games I've played this competition. Fantastic job! Simple yet fun and challenging.
I tried. I got stuck somewhere in the menu. Cool idea though.
Cool game. Really enjoyed game mechanism. Made it seem different and it was challenging. Great job for javascript game.
Simple graphics yet strangely I really enjoyed this game. Liked making the progress and growing in strength. Do players actually do damage in battle? It didn't seem so.
Overall great effort though. Enjoyed this quite a bit.
Amazing graphics! Wish it was finished. Looks quite promising. You should flesh it out.
Wow, memory game. Reminds be of Simon. Pretty clever actually. Enjoyed it for a bit.
Great game. Really simple yet clever. Excellent game design.
Pretty cool concept. I like it.
Had difficulty because it seemed like it wouldn't shoot properly.
Wow, I really enjoyed this game. Genius if you came up with this game mechanic on your own. Kudos! Great game that might work well as a commercial release in some form.
Cool graphics and thought it was going to be my cup of tea, but I just kept dying. Couldn't make jumps at all. Not sure if I just suck or what, lol.
Liked this one. So hard to do an action rpg like this in 48 hrs. Good job. I really like the game mechanism of how you recharge your mana. Shoot small enemies seems a little difficult though.
Yeah, I could add a countdown on each turn letting you know how the events are progressing. Good idea.
Tompudding: yeah, needed more choices. Also options expire four turns so it is possible to miss turns. If I set that to three turns, a lot of choices would be missed on each play, but then it wasn't possible to reach the win condition, so I left it as it was. Definitely needed more options which I would have done with more time. Had a whole alien race invasion storyline when you explore the galaxy which had to get cut.
Crowbeak: yeah, I debating whether to offer a 'pass turn' option on every turn. Probably would have been a good idea. If you use it though, you probably won't be able to win the game. Every turn counts to win.
Mikelovesrobots3: That was my favorite line, lol. That and the whole concept of resurrecting and consuming your wife over and over again for eternity, lol.
Really cute game. Fits the theme perfectly. Quite polished. Starcraft lite lite lite lite, lol.
Remind me of astrosmash from the Intellivision! Good job replicating the 8bit console era. Definitely minimal back then, lol.
OMG, it's just as hard a real casting - DRAT! Lol.
But amazing game. VERY well done. This is one of those that is hard to believe it was actually done in 48 hrs.
Great job!
Liked this game a lot. Fun platformer. Nice style with graphics. Impressive for javascript game for sure.
Cute game. Reminds me of the classic arcade games of the 80s. Good job.
