8-Bit? 4-Bit! by Polar 2013-04-29T18:47:00
This game is extremely buggy to the point of significantly diminishing the player's enjoyment.

Doesn't work for me. The walls don't show up, even when I pulse.
It's very hard to figure out how to play. Some more prompts would help matters. "Click sector to take energy from," etc.
The invisible blocks are a real pain in the ass.
Also, you can't move diagonal?
Pretty good! It's a little frustrating that touching the collapsing ceiling kills you instantly, though. I might not mind if it was a laser or something, but I feel like a falling ceiling shouldn't kill you unless it crushes you against the floor.
Wow, this game is really complicated. It has a really steep learning curve.
tnovelli, HaxeFlixel can compile to HTML5 as well.
Errata: No, HaxeFlixel cannot compile to HTML5. Oh well.
Hmm, that's a shame. Did you try pressing X? The whole game is keyboard controlled. The first click is only to make sure the game has focus.
If that doesn't work, can you tell me what browser and OS you're on?
Fun! Breaking off parts of the level feels great.
Fun little maze-solver. The best part is how it zooms out at the end and shows you where you've gone. Can get tricky; one time I found myself trapped in a closed room, and was forced to use a bomb to get out.
Man, is that time limit rough. It works in Katamari because you DON'T have to get everything, but here, it looks like you have to get most everything to even rank up to the next size. That means a lot of frustrating backtracking. Although it is somewhat mitigated by how the world gets smaller as you progress.
Nice game.
A lot of the rooms feel big and empty. The game would probably feel a lot tighter if you reduced the resolution.
Interesting premise; fun to play around with. It needed WAY more words; all of the "unknown word" errors really hampered my enjoyment of the game. A thesaurus would have really helped this game out.
Also, it would have been nice if it let you write whole sentences and score the sentence.
Interesting concept, but almost impossible. It's really frustrating how the blocks you're working so hard to build up keep disappearing on their own, even creating combos sometimes.
I have no idea what to do.
Neat! You've implemented a really cool upgrade system. It would be interesting to see this implemented in a game where you can't just give yourself all the upgrades for free.
(I did that and it crashed the game =D )
Can you upload this on Dropbox? That file hosting site looks sketchy.
Please make the text bigger or add a 2x size option, it's really hard to read.
The Windows version is hardlocked at 1280x960 because I didn't have the time to change it. The Flash version should automatically pick the right scaling factor for the window it's in. I'll add "more screen size options" to my to-do list for the post-compo version.
Wow! This is great!
The game won't go past the first level for me. I get to the green square and then nothing happens. Am I missing something?
Ahaha, OK. Now that I've actually played the game, it's quite fun. You got a nice retro-computer vibe to this game.
Exploring was a little tedious because you have to clear out the room each time in order to leave, making backtracking a bit of a pain. Pretty good apart from that, though!
Nothing have ever screamed "virus" more than this. I'm sorry, I'm not gonna install this.
The game looks really slick! Nice work.
The game should at least load now.
Sorry, I've been messing around with my website the past few days. I fixed the link. Thanks for letting me know.
@Tanser: Since using your key at the wrong time can cause you to lose the game, I deliberately put it as far away as possible. You can rebind inputs in v1.0 (Windows) anyway.
@oskardevelopment: Since using a key on a door is very context-dependent, it didn't seem like a major problem at the time. Nonetheless, I changed the warp button to W in the final release, and version 1.0 (Windows) lets you rebind inputs.
@Jezzamon: You don't die, exactly, but the game becomes unwinnable, forcing you to restart.
@JaymeeMak: No idea why that's happening, but on Windows you can press Winkey+Left or Right to bring it within reach. It'll make the window the wrong size, but at least you can grab it now. This
@Novodantis: If you use your key on a door, it's lost and you must restart the game. If you lose your key to a flying lock enemy, you can warp back to the start and reclaim the key. This issue was resolved in the 1.0 release, in which K is ONLY used for opening doors, W warps back to the start at all times (even if you have the key), and R resets the game entirely.
@epb9000: 0.5 is bad, rate it accordingly. Given that there's more than 10 doors, the door is randomly selected each time, and **there's no way to actually figure out which door is the right door**, actually trying to beat 0.5 is an exercise in futility.
