LD23 — Tiny World

Microbial by LukeRissacher 2012-04-26T17:43:00

Very impressive. How did you think of all that in 48 hours?

Reached the end but I'll admit to having to skip two levels, one was level 20, the other was nearer the end but I've forgotten the number.

Enjoyed it a lot, nicely done.

Too Big For This World by Hallway 2012-04-26T17:49:00

Awesome, good game. I only managed to get 6654 feet but oh well, it was good fun!

Chromatic Breeding by artefon 2012-04-26T17:53:00

Interesting idea but I found it too hard to tell the difference between my bacteria and the target so I didn't do very well.

Extra points for innovation though.

Freddies by berkano 2012-04-26T18:33:00

Not a bad game though there was quite a lot of luck involved on the second level which I tend to think isn't a good thing in puzzle games.

I agree with CherryNukaCola that it would be quite nice to be able to select the freddies directly with the mouse, also it would be good if the selection box was a bit more obvious.

Cereal Prize Astronaut by MutagenMan 2012-04-26T18:19:00

As others have said, lighting is nice, controls and collisions not so much!

Baby Farm by MrEvilGuy 2012-04-26T18:14:00

I'm agreeing with Flyboy - What was that? Somewhat funny but I have no idea what just happened!

Arnold Bros (est. 1905) by fanatiko 2012-04-25T19:25:00

A fairly good little platformer, not sure how the double jump is mean't to work though, sometimes it let me and sometimes it didn't - I assume this was a bug?

Agree with Kvisle in that having a larger window would be a lot better!

Disastronaut by Jeffalisk 2012-04-25T17:59:00

Installers :-( I understand wanting all the dependencies there but it would have been nicer to include a separate executable as well so those of us who already had xna didn't need to rummage around in control panel trying to find the game afterwards!

Anyway, the game itself was pretty good, I especially like the ending. Would have been nice if the "0" digit didn't look more like an "8" - I kept getting confused thinking I'd lost fuel when picking up a can! Music was good too, nicely done.

Tiny Floppy by deneb 2012-04-26T19:12:00

A good idea, not overly sure how well it worked though. I ended up just building the odd thing and attacking repeatedly, I don't think I ever saw the computer fight back so I didn't build any defenders.

Got a bit frustrated at having to repeatedly click attack then the target, would be nicer if I could click attack then click the target multiple times, with right click cancelling the action (or something along those lines).

Extra points for innovation!

Endless Siege by flaxenflash 2012-04-26T17:11:00

Not bad, quite good fun. A visible health bar would have been nice, I had no idea I even had one until I died, also the dead enemy splats are rendered over the top of the player character which makes it a little awkward at times. Few updates though and it could be a cool phone game.

Bombs World by minimicro 2012-04-29T15:58:00

Quite fun, nicely done.

Hit a bug - once the bombs get larger the visible explosion is nothing like what they're actually doing - I had blocks disappearing around 5 squares away from where the explosion said it should have happened - possibly explains madflame991's comment too.

Sun Save World by castor 2012-04-25T19:33:00

Lasted about 150 seconds before my last two humans succumbed to hunger! Unfortunately there was absolutely nothing I could do at that point - there were no plants, grown or otherwise anywhere near them. I tend to agree with matheus23 in that it needs a bit more action. Music was good so extra stars for that.

T-Pod by Spiridios 2012-04-26T18:55:00

Would be nice if you could hold down the fire button! Far too many pressed for my liking :-) Overall a good game, fairly interesting paths from the enemies and I like that they destroy the defence laser when they collide with it.

Steel by Lupinius 2012-04-23T18:12:00

Loving the level transitions, nicely done.

These Planets Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us! by RadthorDax 2012-04-23T18:25:00

Quite cool, like the movement. Combat felt a little pointless - without something like knockback or stuns you just win by pressing the button faster.

love in the time of fishbowls by otaviogood 2012-04-23T18:36:00

Overall that was good fun, I would say that some of the sounds are a bit too similar though.

Rudolph the JUMPING SPIDER by zdanielz 2012-04-25T19:20:00

Awesome game, I caught that fly roughly 5 times.

Audio and graphics fitted the game quite well.

Hit a bug where the fly disappears out of the level a few times which basically ends in you dying since if you jump after it you die when you leave the screen!

Men not wearing hats by nilstastic 2012-04-25T19:42:00

Enjoyed for a while after which I just got confused! After picking up any of the resources I was unable to fire again even after the resource had been dropped, also I wasn't sure where to take the resource so this might be the problem!

I like the "The End" sign dropping on to the level complete with collisions with the player and non-hatted men, unfortunately I had no idea why it had appeared - my character was still alive, running around stomping on little hatless people.

Why isn't the main character wearing a hat? :-)

Creature Collect by moop 2012-04-25T16:48:00

Nice, took a while to work out what I was doing - agree with dokidoki in that I didn't initially realise the deliver to merchants graphic was the actual target, might be more obvious if the merchants had collisions on them.

Good fun though.

BamSquitch by Valeour 2012-04-24T19:08:00

Nice game, I agree with Terra though in that having a lives counter in a puzzle game is somewhat harsh! Personally I'd like to see the shrink timer be based on the number of spaces you can move rather than actually on time but this way works too.

Oh and the movement animation is pretty cool!

Tiny Failures by whitetigle 2012-04-24T20:45:00

Like it! Gameplay is fun, graphics are great.

I think I managed to break it the first time I played (not sure how, I reached turn 3 and it froze), that only happened once though.

Would be nice to be able to skip the tutorial, it was quite annoying having to go through it all again the second time loading the game.

Planet Waves by attagcatc 2012-04-28T10:28:00

A nice take on the genre, unfortunately it felt more like luck than skill when things went well. If left and right are supposed to change the offset then that didn't seem to be working for me.

[Darkness Creeping] by AD-Edge 2012-04-28T10:43:00

Impressive little game, died just after getting the yellow key - not sure why though - do the spiders attack you? The other ones I'd walked past didn't.

Took a while to find the first cockroach but I managed it in the end. As others have said, the fall mechanic is a bit annoying, seems far too easy to fall over.

The possession mechanic works well, good game overall.

Flea Game by samueldr 2012-04-25T19:15:00

Not bad, enjoyed it. Would be nice if the mouse cursor didn't disappear thus making it quite difficult to hit the restart button!

Tiny World Cardgame by SusanTheCat 2012-04-25T18:37:00

Impressive, a reasonable card game including deck customisation in 48 hours, nicely done!

Controls were a little bit off - I frequently had to drag cards multiple times before it realised what I was trying to do.

Enjoyed playing this so again, nice one.

Path O' Invasion by ratboy2713 2012-04-25T17:26:00

A nice idea overall, managed to get to the level where there's a red enemy trying to capture everything (the one after the antibodies). Was a little tricky to control - would be nice if there was a drag select.

Short Life in a Box by tequibo 2012-04-24T19:54:00

Nicely done, I like that each new power up allows you to access more areas.

I thought it was broken at first though when the controls said press space to jump and click to fire, neither of which were doing anything! Figured it out though when I found that first powerup.

Downsize by Jwatt 2012-04-28T10:20:00

A good concept, I like it and it follows the theme well. Got a bit annoyed at the isometric view - doesn't map very well onto directions on the keyboard! I also got defeated by level 3, I could only kill the creeps by cutting myself off completely.

Tiny World Defense! by Ergo 2012-04-25T19:09:00

Settings screen is utterly broken!

Stats modifying was quite cool although I'm not sure on the difference between "fire rate" and "cooldown reduction" (I didn't experiment to find out).

Overall it was quite fun, nicely done.

Project AtReL by ningu 2012-04-24T18:36:00

Same here

Nom Nom Planet by Arkazon 2012-04-26T18:59:00

Thanks for all the comments people.

I've just started looking into doing a linux version, the game is written in c++ using allegro so it's mostly cross-platform, unfortunately I have little linux experience and don't have much time available at the moment so you could be waiting a while. Sorry I can't do a mac version since I don't have one.

Tiny Zombyz by Ados200102 2012-04-24T18:43:00

Interesting concept, very tricky to control though - I basically just left most of them to die and saved one. Also you can survive for a very long time by simply hiding in a corner.

Flyght by yosh 2012-04-28T22:40:00

Not a bad take on the side scrolling shooter genre. I like the art style, shame the game isn't a bit longer.

AAS Tiny World by 2A1S 2012-04-24T18:51:00

I played about 8 times, the first 7 of which were me being killed in about 2 seconds by lots of enemies spawning next to me - not great! Final go was a lot better, no enemies next to me and I actually got to play for a while. Would be a lot better if you had a minimum spawn distance so the enemies can't kill you right away.

Tiny Tim's Race World by pythong 2012-04-25T19:52:00

Not bad, enjoyed it for a while before simply trying to stay in the air for as long as possible! Couple of thoughts:
- The instructions page says you're the yellow car, I then subsequently had no idea which car I was since there were around 4 yellow cars in the race!
- As Tifu has mentioned, some cars don't jump and yet don't crash either, this lead to my first crash since I decided to see if the same rules applied to me. :-)

A Tiny New World by Gameko 2012-04-24T20:11:00

A nice start but as other have said, just needs finishing! Graphics are pretty good.

Intertubes by Jack 2012-04-26T18:46:00

Quite fun, I got caught on terrain a fair bit but I suspect that was my inability to use simple controls over anything else! Would be nice to get some diagonal shooting.

Oh and the original didn't work (I'm on windows 7) so I had to use the post-competition version.

Spaceship Planet Merge by codeapparat 2012-04-24T19:35:00

Pretty cool idea, I finally managed to win after catapulting one of my guys into the sun and another into space! Agree with VDOgamez in that the orbit modelling seemed a little odd, some explosions seemed not to effect it at all whereas another explosion with the same number of plants managed to completely change it.

Link by Dax 2012-04-28T22:37:00

Very nice game, suffers from a frustrating control issue - really needs a deselect key!

Nice, well presented story. Enjoyed the game.

25 Rooms by V0ID 2012-04-24T19:41:00

Interesting idea, Might be worth showing the enemy briefly at the start - I had no idea what I was looking for - is it a powerup? is it the enemy? I can't tell!

I did eventually win but I've no idea how, I was basically moving randomly since I didn't really know what I was doing, finally caught a look at the enemy one square away from me and got him.

Professor Squeaks: The Circuitous Escape! by envy3d 2012-04-24T20:26:00

Like the idea - interesting little puzzle mini-game.

Controls are bit a fiddly when modifying the circuits though, I kept accidentally closing the mini-game by pressing the wrong button, also when navigating the level it would be nice if the game remembered I was holding a direction key even after I've hit an obstacle so when I jump it automatically continues forwards - not having this lead to a fair bit of frustration when trying to jump through some of the smaller gaps.

The sound at the end is genius!

Panopticon by kakuremino 2012-04-24T20:07:00

Very nice, love the atmosphere. Had to look at the comments to beat that 3 teleporter room though.

Rat Conquest by Canard Sauvage 2012-04-26T18:52:00

A bit too slow for my liking both in progression speed and general movement speed. Looks like it had quite a lot of potential but I get a bit too annoyed at the slow movement so I didn't get very far.

LD24 — Evolution

Helix - A DNA Editor / Creature Platformer by hirsch 2012-08-27T20:43:00

Awesome idea with changing the dna, few issues with the controls - wall jumps were somewhat dodgy but a good game overall.

You Made them! by garygreen 2012-08-28T21:34:00

A nice innovative idea but I couldn't get the hang of the controls and the lack of feedback doesn't help.

Age runners by balauru 2012-08-27T14:18:00

Not really sure why there are two tracks - just seems to confuse matters without adding anything, I kept expecting the routes to be different but I got stuck and had to stop before that happened (if it does). Also doesn't really use the theme much.
All that said, I enjoyed it for a while so nicely done.

Cube Miner: The Evolution of the Cubindustry by draxov 2012-08-27T11:41:00

Nicely presented but no link to evolution and there didn't seem to be any balancing required (i.e. increase wages to keep workers happy but that lowers your productivity), this basically means you end up just buying everything. Also the target of 10 million is really really high, I got bored and stopped at about half a million.

Deep Sea Evolution by atla 2012-08-27T10:12:00

Overall pretty good, I found myself dying randomly though - I guess I was probably in range of a larger microbe but it's not obvious what the range is so that's hard to avoid.

Also as Thurig said, load times are ridiculous!

Primeval Labs by BMacIntosh 2012-08-28T21:12:00

Good use of the theme, nice one.

Had a lot of trouble at first getting anything to happen before I realised I had an xbox pad plugged in - seems to cause keyboard and mouse controls to stop working which wouldn't be a problem except that the pad controls don't work - there's no way to fire and the y axis movement is inverted!

Once I unplugged the pad it was quite good fun. :-)

Darwin In Space by Misericorde 2012-08-27T11:22:00

Well that was random, and to think I thought my game's link to evolution was tenuous!

A nice fun little reactions game. Nicely done.

As others have said, a bit more variation would have been good.

An Astronomical Affray by reheated 2012-08-27T10:38:00

Download link just takes me to a google drive signup page. I suggest using dropbox - doesn't force other people to sign up in order to get your files.

The Horrifying and Viciously Aggresive Though Strangely Susceptible To Evolution Monsters From Some Mysterious Random Tomb by Ret44 2012-08-27T11:17:00

Love the title, not really sure where evolution comes into it though!

Game was fun but I didn't see any new mechanics.

Couple of issues - Buy too much armour and your health goes up rather than down when the enemies hit you, I had to avoid collecting health potions since these actually reduced my health down to 100! Also it crashed after about 4 levels.

minogear by Andrei Barsan 2012-08-27T09:44:00

Wouldn't run for me either. Win7-64bit.

Evolwar by headchant 2012-08-27T10:34:00

Nice game with a couple of small problems:
- On level 10 I had an enemy dinosaur spawned in the corner of the map with a mountain to one side and water to the other - I couldn't get to it to kill it.
- Can only change target between enemy dinosaurs and a single egg, if you're standing next to multiple eggs it won't let you pick which one to hit.

Overall good though, enjoyed it.

Super Conga Kat by steve 2012-08-27T10:08:00

That's one difficult game, I got stuck around the 29 kittens mark. Good fun though even if the link to evolution is pretty feeble!

Uberlution by Robotic 2012-08-27T17:21:00

Nice ending, also great nom nom sound effect.
Took me so long to find anything smaller than me to eat at the start that I thought the game was bugged! Eventually found something though.

LD26 — Minimalism

Don't Smash The Vase by CryoGenesis 2013-04-29T16:42:00

Really good idea - I'm a sucker for any game that involves messing with gravity!

Tech Troop Tim's Big Pay Day by Guardian_Bob 2013-05-04T19:42:00

I like it - messing with the views when you hit the walls is a really nice touch.

stairs by cardboard 2013-04-30T17:11:00

Dropbox link for the compiled version doesn't work.

Balls! by pknowles 2013-04-30T17:27:00

Looks good although I don't know about objects casting shadows onto the sun - pretty sure it doesn't work that way!

Obscure by Ysty 2013-04-29T16:06:00

Really nice, main issue is as naughtyloose mentioned - sometimes the player refuses to move and you have to jiggle about a bit in order to go down a path.

I managed to reach the sanctuary on my second attempt.

Bouncy Ball Extreme by Ray_Mickelino 2013-04-29T21:37:00

Nice game, same as Nsmurf says though - I ended up going too fast, went straight through the floor and had to start again (at least that's what I'm assuming happened!)

PATCh by egos 2013-04-29T17:41:00

Nice idea although it took quite a while before I worked out what the rules were.

As EggDestroyer has mentioned it needs some hint about the next block, even if it's only the size.

RGBCMY by ericlass 2013-04-29T17:48:00

Nice idea and well implemented but very, very short.

Minimal Blocks! by messiano 2013-05-04T19:50:00

Nice idea with the top down platformer. As others have said though it's really hurt by having to move in order to stay on the moving platforms, this is made worse by having no indication that they are about to change direction.

CatLife by Leoche 2013-04-29T15:54:00

Love the animations

Mandala by MuffinTrap 2013-05-02T19:15:00

My eeeyyyeeesss, what have you done? Ahem. Very weird looking game.

I had absolutely no idea where my trianglar character was in relation to anything else, as Fritzendugan says it's basically random whether you collect anything or not since you can't tell where the player is. Other than that the graphics were fun, just needs a little help on the depth perception!

BLM by smealum 2013-04-30T16:13:00

Controls are a bit fiddly - would be nice to be able to aim with the mouse. Other than that, great game. Nice concept.

Particles by Covenant 2013-04-29T18:01:00

A good game, I finished all the regular levels (would take me far too long to get 100% for that bonus level!). Program didn't close properly - I still had sound playing after closing the window and had to use task manager to finish it off.

Lightbyrinth by siondream 2013-04-29T17:45:00

Very nice mate. Liking the music, bit tricky with the camera being so slow and the ability to fire is pretty pointless since you can just outrun the enemies - I didn't need to fire at all to complete it.

Minimum by jlm 2013-04-29T16:11:00

Nice but a little hard to get into - could use some explanation on some of the mechanics and as others have said - the collisions being that imprecise makes it tricky to control.

The Quest for Minimalism by Arkazon 2013-04-30T16:30:00

Glad you're all liking it, I intended to make some of the levers do non-gameplay related things like remove background images or turn sound off. Ended up not having any backgrounds or sounds to remove though!

@pighead10 : Did the browser crash or just hit an error? Which browser are you using?
@FloatingGhost : Are you using a WebGL compatible browser? I suggest trying with Chrome.

You are the Minimalist by pighead10 2013-04-29T16:30:00

Very nice idea but it suffers from a couple of problems:
- Controls are very imprecise, I would prefer the blocks being dropped to be the same size as the player and for the player to be locked onto the grid - as it is it's very difficult to drop the exact size shape that you need to in order to proceed.
- Rules are a little unclear - why is a single width path counted as a single block but a double width path gets split into lots of squares and ends up counting as loads?

LD28 — You Only Get One

Data Stains by Evilion 2013-12-16T19:09:00

Atmosphere is really good but I've absolutely no idea what's going on!

The last Stand by grifdail 2013-12-16T18:51:00

Quite a nice idea, I got 69305 points using a gamepad. Thought I hit an odd visual bug a few times until I realised you can go off the top and bottom to reappear on the other side. Could maybe use some enemies that follow different flight patterns like a sign wave or similar?

Servassacre by doonay21 2013-12-18T21:41:00

Really nice idea but as everyone else has said it's very, very difficult - it's hard enough getting minions through tight passages, that the things have suicidal tendencies is a bit too much! Music gets annoying quickly too since it repeats too quickly.

I would also suggest not placing walls so close to the edge of the window - makes it impossible to move minions away from them in a controlled fashion.

Having said all that though, I do really like the idea - probably just needs a more gradual difficulty curve!

Battle of the Orange by TheThirdOne 2013-12-18T21:55:00

Love the ship movement, as others have said - shame you didn't manage to finish it.

Static Room by f7f5 2013-12-16T22:34:00

Nice idea - makes for a fun little game. My only gripe is with the enemies - a few times I entered a room only to die pretty much straight away. Not quite sure how the placement works on them, sometimes they seemed to stay where they were in the previous room, sometimes they didn't and sometimes new ones appeared as well.

Lost Gems by d__adee 2013-12-18T22:06:00

Agree with earlier comments - gem box should be in the first room. It took me a few attempts to find a gem and I never managed to find both a gem and the gem box! Maybe put a delay on enemy movement when you first enter a room - just a quarter of a second or so to give the player a chance to react before they die.

You only got one... HUNDRED lives! by RedPanda 2013-12-16T19:22:00

Graphics are nice.

I like the concept of killing the player off in order to make longer jumps, shame you didn't get that far (or I didn't that bit if you did).

Jumping gets stuck on the blocks sometimes which is quite annoying since the only thing you can do is drop down and try again.

YOLO Simulator 2014 by EncryptedCow 2013-12-16T22:26:00

I died of natural causes at 95, not a bad innings!

Interesting concept, not quite sure where the theme comes into it.

Neonian - You are the 1 (Ludum Dare 28 : You Only Get One) by Neonian 2013-12-16T17:55:00

Nice game, abilities were varied enough to be interesting and the coin improved version was cool.

I felt a little restricted by the controls - only being able to aim in the direction I'm moving in because both are controlled by the mouse, I also had no idea when my coin-based super shooting was going to run out!

No sound on the windows version?

One Blue Marble by Nighley 2013-12-16T17:48:00

Nice idea and I like the descriptions.

I won first time having invented everything so I didn't really see the effects until reading the rest of the comments here though! Could certainly use a little work to make what's going on a little more readable.

yolo one click by zhugolaf 2013-12-16T19:14:00

A 5 second countdown for a game that's over in half a second? Seems a little excessive!

Alert in Blockland by NikinCZ 2013-12-16T17:40:00

Interesting idea but it's really let down by the speed of combat - turns (especially attacking) taking over a second each hurts the game - I think speeding everything up would make it a lot better.

UniFlagellete by vanaficionado 2013-12-16T18:54:00

Looks nice but I had no idea what was going on!

Mr.Rect by Mindtricks 2013-12-18T21:45:00

I like the overall concept of choosing a single skill to take into a level. As others have said, this has more innovative features than a lot of the games on here even if it is a bit rough around the edges!

Bazooka guy by Wukkopi 2013-12-16T17:29:00

A game based on rocket jumping, awesome!

Nice concept, the single ammo aspect fits the theme but did mean that there weren't any real puzzles - you always know exactly where you need to go.

SPOILER ALERT
zonnelly13 - you need to press jump and fire at the same time, makes you go a lot further.
END OF SPOILER

Kill Only One by Arkazon 2013-12-16T22:21:00

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

GravityScore - Yeah I wasn't 100% convinced by the font myself but I wanted something a bit more interesting than Arial!
grifdail - Killing 1 enemy gets you 100 points and opens the spiral exit thing, killing further enemies before going through the spiral loses you 100 points per enemy so you're trying to kill 1 enemy each time before going through the spiral.
Masadow - The grid is there just so you can see a bit of movement, with a plain background movement felt a bit odd when there weren't any enemies in sight since nothing was changing on screen.
