Wow this is really good! Love the art, especially the way the bright objects glow in the dark. The way you evolve your senses is neat too. It's *really* hard to find someone edible when you're at the first level, but once I did it was sweet.

Lucariatias 2012-08-27 15:39

When I extracted the ZIP I got a CPGZ file... What did you use to make the ZIP?

k1net1k 2012-08-27 15:42

Wow, very nice graphics. Nice little tune going on. The combat wasn't very expressive of what was happening. Nice smooth and polished seeming gamestyle. Reminds me of Spore

sgehlich 2012-08-27 15:44

I like it, but the end is quite... abrupt. Add some more levels and it'll be fun!

vamflax 2012-08-27 15:44

I love the eyeballs, and the om-nom-nom sfx. The radar is cool too. I like that you get to eat the dudes who you were running away from in the beginning... revenge...!! :D

I died really early on the first time, which was kind of annoying. But I played some more, made it to level 10 and genuinely laughed out loud! :)

ragzouken 2012-08-27 15:50

Beautiful, and funny too :) It seems like you have to mash spacebar rather than hold it down like the instructions say, which is a bit annoying. Overall I like this game!

omarshehta 2012-08-27 15:52

The title reminds me of that movie "Something something or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb" or something like that. Was that intentional? :P

My first impression: I really like the feel of the game! The art looks sweet and stylistic, the music creates a solemn and somber atmosphere, and everything looks polished!

I do like the game's concept, and I do love stealth games, but I think the small circle around the player may be hindering the fun more than it helps. A lot of times I'm just walking aimlessly until I see a big guy, but by then, it's too late to try to outrun him, so there's not much I can do.

Having it so that I can see the enemies before they see me would make a great difference.

I can totally see this being a super fun experience, but currently it's a bit too frustrating for me. That's just my 2 cents! (If you tweak anything or make the game easier, I'd love to give it another try!) I'm going to rate it on how fun I think it can be with these minor changes.

robotic 2012-08-27 15:52

No, mashing is to escape being attacked, you have to hold it to eat people :) (mashing it will work too but it's slower)

dalbinblue 2012-08-27 16:03

Haha, the ending was funny! Overall fun game. Two bugs though:
1) There is a point in the top right where to can squeeze through and exit the map.
2) In the lower right area there is a group of rocks where the enemies can get stuck. I was fairly low level and the only thing I could eat was stuck with two larger monsters, making it impossible for me to grow to the next level. I had to kill myself and start over.

omarshehta 2012-08-27 16:04

Also, since a lot of people are doing games where you eat smaller things, I think adding some visual indicator of who is smaller than me and who is bigger is crucial, so as not to be dependent on the player trying to judge two similar sized objects and trying to determine which is bigger.

Take a look at how Osmos did it. Smaller cells turn blue, bigger cells turn red, so you can instantly know who to attack and who to avoid.

robotic 2012-08-27 16:13

You're right, but after level 1 you unlock a radar that shows smaller foes. But I'll take that in consideration for a better version, I thought sizes were identifiable enough. Anyway your comments are very constructive and helpful, thanks a lot !

arkazon 2012-08-27 17:21

Nice ending, also great nom nom sound effect.
Took me so long to find anything smaller than me to eat at the start that I thought the game was bugged! Eventually found something though.

wumpus 2012-08-27 17:22

Really nice looking game and it feels quite polished. I liked the ending and the hud indicator was a welcome addition. Om nom nom indeed.

accidentalrebel 2012-08-27 17:49

Looking for the smaller noms was quite a chore at first that I was ready to give up. The bigger ones also always seems to find me. Haha. In the end it was an enjoyable experience. Great visuals!

markavian 2012-08-27 17:50

Wonderful game, beautiful and fun. Love the combat, exploration, eating, avoiding, all fits together just perfect. Love the ending too :D

bvanschooten 2012-08-27 18:03

In some ways very different from the other games I've seen. Great graphics, nice lighting effects. It's also nice to hear someone use voices in a LD game. Haven't heard it before.

mattrix 2012-08-27 18:52

@4urentertainment "Having it so that I can see the enemies before they see me would make a great difference."

"I think adding some visual indicator of who is smaller than me and who is bigger is crucial"

If you evolve your senses past the first level you can basically do that! :)

mclogenog 2012-08-27 19:18

Great art and smooth controls. It took me a while to find the first edible character, and played like a stealth game while I was looking, which I liked. I also enjoyed that there were always bigger enemies to avoid, speaking to the condition of these little creatures but also to the condition of human society. I might be reading too much into it, considering how silly that ending is, but it's a neat game all the same.

robotic 2012-08-27 19:32

Actually Mclogenog I had such thought while making the game too, but I do not want to indicate that in game, I don't want it to look like an art game or anything, just have a simple gameplay that you can interpretate how you want. And sorry if the ending decredibilizes the experience for you, I only did this because I lacked time, it was faster than adding a scoring and more levels, plus I thought it was a funny twist, adding contrast to the game.

mclogenog 2012-08-28 06:42

@Robotic There's nothing wrong with a silly ending, and I certainly understand the limits on a game jam game. I just like having some ideas complimentary to the mechanics that I can gnaw on, and this provided! Making those thoughts more obvious might lead to "pretentious art game" criticisms, but it would also make it easier to interpret in a way valuable outside the game experience.

Anyway, thanks for making the game, it's my favorite of the entries I've played so far!

gfm 2012-08-28 13:52

It took me a long time to find a smaller enemy. >_<
So, I really think the radar would be more usefull when you are little...

But the game got fun when I got bigger. =]

buttercupsaiyan 2012-08-28 23:03

Ahahaha, the combat is literally button-mashing! I love that.

I'm had trouble finding something small enough to eat, though... Once I did, the game got a lot more fun! This is what Spore should have been. :/

Also, great tribute to Monty Python!

maple 2012-08-30 06:18

YOU DIDN'T CLOSE THE GAME FOR ME YOU LIAR!

skulls 2012-08-30 06:27

Good art, and I liked your evolving senses. I actually quite liked the end I felt pretty bad about eating all those people especially since I turned into a monster with horns and stuff. I'm also a fan of Dr Strangelove and I liked the humor in this game :)

jovoc 2012-08-30 06:28

Gorgeous game. I didn't really like the button mashing part but what a cool world and dripping with atmosphere.

timtipgames 2012-08-30 06:37

Mnumnumnumnumnum! I loved this game. It was really fun to mnumnumnnumnum all the others. The ending is hilarious ;) Looks great. I personally would have made the players light fade out to the edges more, but thats really just personal preference. Really, great job!

hatsun 2012-08-31 08:13

Now THAT was awesome. I'd like to see some sort of indicator for if I'm close enough to eat something though.

raohmaru 2012-08-31 21:35

The best game in this compo I've played so far!
Missing some animation when eating the others, but hey, it was a made game in 48h!

brotherst 2012-08-31 21:42

Nice game :) it was quite hard to progress at one point, I think I may have actually been the smallest guy on the map.. I like the lighting and the way the eyes move :)

aquasheep 2012-08-31 22:25

Absolutely excellent! When I played this I thought for sure it was a jam entry because of the graphics and audio quality. It reminded me so much of Spore cell stage running around and eating yummy smaller things and eventually getting large enough to eat things that could destroy you early on. Very fun!

38leinad 2012-09-01 16:00

one of the best games i have player so far: good mix between polished graphics, sound and actually matching the theme. liked rather surprising ending. nice!

atridas 2012-09-02 10:54

Love the graphics, sound needs some work and the concept is fantastic!

I found the game slightly unbalanced or plainly hard to play (larger enemies where faster than me and I couldn't understant the mechanic to break out)

echa 2012-09-04 15:13

Hahah.

haddy22 2012-09-05 21:52

Great game- very impressive for 48 hours! Art was stunning- code was solid- game play was fluid. Very nice!

cakencode 2012-09-09 22:10

I lost soooooo many times at the start because everything I could find was twice or three times as big as I was. Maybe consider scattering a few smaller enemies around the player starting position to ensure they get bigger?

Visuals were phenomenal. And the controls felt solid, despite the button mashing being a bit overwhelming on my poor keyboard xD

nosfer 2012-09-11 11:01

Finished :) quite fun, very nice graphics and animation.

someone 2012-09-11 12:23

Great work, I really like the art style.

djcsdy 2012-09-16 13:33

Although this is *beautifully* presented, unfortunately it doesn't really work as a game.

It gets much easier as it progresses, which is very much the wrong way round for a difficulty curve. The theme does make it rather difficult to avoid that, unfortunately.

The 'om nom' sound effect spoils the mood created by the beautiful graphics and music. I think you should have left the humour until the end, which I did enjoy :).

rawbits 2012-09-16 19:21

Nice and simple game with good graphics and music. The game suppose to exit after beating it like it says? It didn't do it...

alexandervrs 2012-09-17 20:56

Collisions were a bit "stucky" sometimes, and it seems the game could benefit from some other kinds of obstacles & powerups. The small creatures should be a bit more common to spawn though so the gameplay picks up kinda faster. Graphics, lighting effects and music were great though! :)

ncannasse 2012-09-17 22:17

Great game, a bit hard to get started but then the radar helps a lot. Really loved the graphics.

jplur 2012-09-17 23:21

Haha loved the monty python ending. This is beautiful, funny, and the perfect length for a LD entry, great job!
