The upgrades look interesting but it took ages to get the first upgrade, so I couldn't try them out.

The upgrades look interesting but it took ages to get the first upgrade, so I couldn't try them out.
I really like this type of game, I've only seen so few of them. I'd like to see a version which saves your progress, or you can start at any level.
It was a long time since I played a commando clone. The game was fun, only a bit too easy to complete.
Interesting game! It was quite enjoyable, and I'd like to see a postcompo version. One boring but successful strategy is to wake the enemies one by one. You can prevent this by grouping enemies that wake together. Fog of war and more levels would be nice too. A healing feature would also enable more interesting strategies. In terms of user interface, it would be nice to be able to select mineable blocks more easily.
I never found out how the game works exactly. The number at the top is not the same as the group size, how come? How do you select individuals except by leaving some behind? How can I see if the stats improve?
Looks fantastic! Also looks pretty polished. Only some of the skill jumps are rather frustrating.
Interesting alternative tower defense game. The idea of having all towers aim at one target makes it rather different, but also seems to limit the available strategies to lining the enemies up on a single line. I am not sure it's a good idea to have the aliens get in the way of building. Much of the game then concentrates on avoiding alien interference while building.
It works well on my tablet. I like the presentation and mood of the game. Pity you didn't get more of it finished.
After several tries of trying to pass wave 2, I got stuck inside a platform. It's a nice start, it just needs some work to make it more fun. You have to shoot the zombies very often to kill them, yet they move very quickly and unpredictably. This means that standing in a safe place in the hope that you can hit some zombies is an optimal strategy.
Can't run this. Java complains that the 64 bit jvm cannot load a 32 bit lwjgl.dll.
Cannot play the game. The exe simply doesn't start.
The duck quacking sound is definitely the highlight of this game.
The game has potential, but is currently a bit limited. Often I can't avoid the bullets at all. The idea of evolving enemies is interesting, but I could not notice any of it when playing the game.
Really good puzzle game. I'd like to play more levels!
A superior rendition of the original Mario Bros :-)
Interesting experience. I did not seem to be able to influence game progress much though. It was not clear how the evolution improves survivability of the species.
I am not much into turn based fighting games, but I like this one.
The bashing concept is a good deal of fun :-) The theme is also funny. I'd probably like to zoom out the playfield, so there's more strategy to the game as you try to match your trajectory to that planets' trajectories.
There didn't seem to be any challenge to the game, just pick up everything and upgrade to the maximum score below the goal before passing it. I got to near 20,000
Can't run because I don't have Java 7. Are you really using java 7 features? Otherwise, just use -source 1.6 -target 1.6 to make it run on java 6.
At last, a game that elaborates on the theme :-) Overall nice effort, but a bit lacking in challenge. I completed the game the first time.
Great, an 48-hour roguelike that's actually pretty good! And it looks very finished too. I'd like to see a more extensive version with more monster types.
I liked trying to solve the levels within the time, but it would be nice to be able to restart a level. Bug: after game over, it is not possible to start the game again.
Won't run on my Win7 64 bit machine. It just says "GameTemplate stopped working"
Good fun. I do like games with a working evolution model.
Nice game, but rather hard. The WSAD keys don't seem to work (I used the arrows).
If you get stuck, press Q to commit suicide (sorry, forgot to mention).
well presented, interesting to play for awhile, but I could find little logic to the combinations. Slow end animation made me quit early.
I think this looks a little unpolished. The platform mechanics are not sound and most sprites do not animate. The bullets move too slowly.
Interesting experience. Looks polished too. Only in terms of gameplay, there is not much of a challenge.
You managed to capture an interesting atmosphere with the graphics and sound, though the gameplay itself seems rather limited.
A polished game, though I am not sure how to progress. Do I just have to collect a lot of 'N's?
I like the idea of watching ants run around do their own things, but I found it hard to control anything. It is hard to click each ant one by one (if you can make out which ones are yours in the first place). I placed some purple blocks and the ants seem to get stuck in them. It takes ages for something to happen, but I am now running the game in the background to see what happens.
I don't seem to be making any progress. I put some cats in the dome but then they disappear again as soon as I walk out of the lab. I like the music.
Couldn't run, I don't have java 7 because some software only runs on 6. If you don't use java 7 features, I advise using -source 1.6 -target 1.6.
Rarely do such large pixels look so good :-) I also like that the sounds are not sfxr. The game has an intruiging atmosphere. I did not figure out all the game rules, but I got stuck in a level with a lot of teleports and no way out.
Looks like a fairly complete shooter, with some interesting graphical effects. With more polishing, like more control over the action (more possibilities to avoid enemies or less randomness), a health bar, and proper explosions (not just the sheep disappearing with a pop), this could be a nice game.
The ragdoll effects are interesting, but there does not seem to be an awful lot of gameplay.
I could not figure out how to eat the red beetles, so I got stuck.
I couldn't discover much gameplay to it, just turn left, bang your spacebar, then turn right, then bang your spacebar again. 5 minutes later, still the same.
An addictive game, though it took me awhile to figure out what's going on. When I finally started making progress the creatures got stuck in a fight and refused to go anywhere. I quit after 5 minutes of waiting. I'l definitely play this more if there were a save game feature.
Great work, very original. This game reminded me how much I like farming type games. I would have liked the possibility to destroy plants and seeds, as I had to carry away large amounts of seeds one by one by the time my plants were growing tall.
The audio must be the best I've heard. The graphics create an interesting atmosphere. There isn't much gameplay however. What I would probably do is keep the graphics and sound and try a different game concept.
Looks interesting, but impossible to play until you fix some bugs first. I got that cursor index error, and also some other error. Also, I can't see the entire map on my screen, if I change the resolution I can't even see the icons anymore. The creatures are too small for me to see properly.
Look and sounds pretty neat. But why bother having random tiles that must be placed in a fixed sequence when it's easy to dispose of them? I found myself spending too much time disposing of tbe bad tiles rather than solving interesting puzzles.
One of the best games I've played. I first though some of the puzzles were unsolveable until I discovered how the powerups work.
OK, so it's a jam because your daughter participated :-) I like the graphics and sound.
The first level contains a tough but unintentional puzzle, but I finally completed it!
The segments are supposed to stop in the middle of the screen to form the "E". However, if you fail to complete the level the first time you press the boom button, the segments will no longer stop and the first level becomes uncompleteable.
If you fail the move the segments towards the middle the first time round, reload the page before trying again.
Fun to play, well executed. I like the graphics. I got stuck in the tunnel with the spikes.
Very atmospheric. Couldn't figure out what the artifacts do. I got stuck after picking up the third artifact (could not get back through the maze).
The arrow controls do not work. Windows 7 64 bit.
This must be the most addicting game I've played yet! I have rarely seen such real evolving creatures in a game. It plays like a sandbox game. The possibility to "farm" species keeps me coming back for more. However it's very difficult to avoid the red dots so I keep dying again and again.
Great work! I always wondered what a cross-stitched game would look like. The stitchwork looks pretty seamless, which I thought would be hard to get right. I found the gameplay gets boring quickly however, it needs just a little extra strategy element.
I completed it. Actually the game looks surprisingly like my own game (nom's evolvathlon), so of course I like this game :-) I think the graphics are actually atmospheric (though I don't like your drawing of a monkey much:-)).
I completed the game. Quite an interesting and kind of original game.
Apart from the backgrounds, which do not tile seamlessly, it look very intriguing graphically. I have the impression I cannot really influence what's going on in the game. It is not clear whether I hit something with my bullets or not, and whether that is good or bad.
When I change 100% of DNA (not sure if that is the goal of the game), the game crashes.
In some ways very different from the other games I've seen. Great graphics, nice lighting effects. It's also nice to hear someone use voices in a LD game. Haven't heard it before.
I got to generation 10, then I rolled bad stats and died. Interesting experience, only I am not sure if I am really influencing the process, because I cannot really move, melee seems to be a random win or lose affair (though I cannot be sure), and the generation stats are very random.
Quite a nice arena shooter. Haven't seen many of those, strangely. I like the different enemies and tiles. The idea of different sizes is interesting.
Innovative game, but very hard. The game looks polished and complete. I like the sound and music.
Looks promising, apart from limited levels and bugs and flaws. Some items hurt you way beyond what you'd expect as tile boundaries or bounding boxes, and jumping randomly doesn't work. When you fall in the hole in level 2 you die instantly. In level 4 you can't see the difference between what hurts you and what doesn't.
Very polished, great art. Only I think there is not enough interaction and game balance here.
Fun game! Pushing enemies off the platform is an interesting game mechanic. Like the graphics too. The bullet sound of weapon 1 is annoying though.
Very original concept that works well. The sound is really atmospheric.
Simple but original game. It has a refreshingly novel feel to it. I never found out how to make the toast fly high though. Also I have to spend most of the time waiting for the toasts to bake. I'd have preferred to have less waiting and more action. Maybe have more than 2 toasters?
Looks promising, but I couldn't find much gameplay in the game. I tried digging deep but I did not find anything there. At daytime nothing seems to happen, at night I can only jump over monsters. Every now and then my block selection cursor disappears.
Fun game! With some better graphics this would be great. I see there is a lot of discussion about the controls. I actually like the reversed controls. Moving rather than shooting with the mouse makes me feel more in control.
Not original, but very well executed and a lot of content. My only gripe is that some of the sounds are a little grating. I got stuck at level 20 or so, where the first jump has to be pixel perfect.
Nice game, also has good graphics and a finished feel. Maybe it's possible to create more interesting strategies by allowing the player more control over the routing of the aliens?
Interesting idea. I found it rather hard to make the creatures do what I want, they kept passing through each other.
It was an interesting experience playing this.
Played it on Android. Interesting concept. Some of the best audio for a 48 hour game. I don't understand why there are different colours and shapes.
Very nice music toy. Would like to see more like this, maybe it can be incorporated into a game too. It would be nice to have more instruments. Also I think you should stop the long notes as soon as you erase their squares.
Nice and original game, I got to level 6, which I couldn't pass. But why LEFT mouse button to move UP, RIGHT to move DOWN? I tried rotating the mouse but that's awkward too. I keep fighting with the controls. I would like to play a version with cursor up and down to control.
Nice game. Pity I have to start on level 1 every time. Also there are situations where I cannot avoid taking damage, at least I think so.
A promising start, though it could use some more work to make it more fun. The fighting seems a matter of just pressing the space bar fast enough, and the level seems to go on forever. I didn't hear any sound. That must be a bug, so I didn't rate sound.
This game creates an interesting atmosphere. It's a hard game, mostly because you can't see the objects coming. I keep crashing a lot, so I do not get into that flow experience you mention.
Nice game. I like the idea of choosing between upgrades and score. This would probably benefit from a more complex upgrade system. I preferred more bullets and shields.
Good game, love the graphics. You've got an eye for colour. Found the controls a bit too frustrating at times.
The game look attractive, only I got stuck in the 2nd level. Could not make the jumps, kept dying for no apparent reason. Is this a bug? I did not get any sound on Firefox.
Nice polished little shooter. I completed it. Maybe it is even more fun when you are able to shoot faster, and with some enemies with more complex movement patterns.
I played the postcompo version. Interesting concept and quite a complex game, I appreciate the effort of trying something new. The audio sounds like sfxr, but it is some of the best I´ve heard so far. As is, the game seems quirky though, maybe the game is too complex to get right within 48h? Sometimes the explosive ticks, sometimes it explodes immediately. The enemies also move randomly, sometimes they home in and kill you immediately and sometimes they wait or take a wrong exit, so you get more time and can complete the level. Completing a level seemed a matter of getting a lucky shot when the aliens open the door at the right moment. Also it did not seem useful to switch between the players, and I don´t understand when exactly the player characters die. Is level 4 the end of the game? It seems to be empty.
Hi all! Thanks for your comments! I now have a postcompo version with a restart game button, and without the black sprite glitches and other minor tweaks.
@madball, "Next time consider making one game, but doing it properly."
This comment doesn't seem in the LD spirit at all. Are you angry with me for creating these games? Don't you remember that once upon a time you yourself created 6 minigames as an LD entry?
Hi Madball, good to get a conversation going. Of course, this is just an experiment. The idea of minigames, the graphics, etc. I don't really plan to make minigames next LD, even if just because you don't seem to get specific critiques. What I do like about your critique is that it's actually the most detailed. So let's talk about that.
General: The games have flaws, like every LD entry, but I believe they are not gameplay breaking. I still enjoyed playing most of them myself after I submitted them, my favourite being Roof Escape. I am intrigued by simple games, because my experience is that, in the wild, people often like my simpler games (as simple and even as rough as these minigames) better than my more complex ones. Also, you have to be extremely efficient to get around in the game industry. Unfortunately there are only few people in LD submitting minigames overall, and I'd have liked to play your entry too if the file wasn't removed.
Dragonflight: the controls are essential to the game (Joust).
Larry: I copied the controls from the original (Fast Eddie). I do want to improve them because I like this game.
Icebreaker: press Z, then a direction, to push a block reliably.
Toad: thanks for finding that bug, it was a typo.
Digger: yes, this game is a little quirky. It's also possible to spawn stones if you stack them the right way.
R and Z keys: I used the R key for restart at first, but I really hated moving my finger off the Z key every time, so I changed it to Z.
Graphics: I think they are far more pleasing than having programmer-drawn graphics like most LD entries including my own (I am not a graphics artist). I know some people like these colour schemes. The black edges look ragged because Java2D does not support alpha blending. The sprites have been scaled using a "stained glass" distortion filter to make them look more organic.
You certainly got off to a good start! The game could be great with some fixes. It would have been nice to have safe points. The controls need some work. Jumping is unresponsive, and sometimes I make very small jumps (is that caused by the block I am standing on?). This is what killed me most of the time. Also I need three hands to play this. It would have been nicer to jump with the left mouse button. Also it is not clear where exactly I am landing. This is what killed me the remaining times.
Nice full-featured platformer. Good graphics and sound. The sound effects are a bit too loud in comparison with the music.
Interesting idea, getting powerups for abilities you need to solve the level. Platforming did not feel solid, I could float in mid air and walk through walls. The game was too easy. I completed all levels within 3 minutes without any sort of skill.
Great game! Innovative puzzle element. Clever idea to use the Mondrian style levels.
Nice start for a platformer, only having one level and no emenies is a bit limited. The graphics are simple, but atmospheric.
Well presented, only I didn't find it much fun to play. It is not clear what to do in the computer scene. The ending scene is too gross for me. I'd like to have seen more scenes.
Interesting piece of interactive art. Interesting enough for me to wait and see what happens when the pendulum gets to the top, but I think that part should have been a little more interactive. The audio is really unusual and atmospheric.
Interesting experiment. Looks something like the powder game. In that game every element is only 1x1 pixel large. I would prefer it if you could draw in the zoomed-out mode. Maybe the patterns and interactions would be clearer.
Nice game that offers a legitimate challenge. I like the graphics. The move controls seem unresponsive. Also some enemies move off the screen, often I spend ages trying to find and shoot that last enemy. Also the enemies shoot a little too accurately and/or have a little too many HP, making shooting them a matter of repeating a move/shoot/dodge sequence a number of times. This is sometimes tedious.
Nice little game. I like the graphics. I also like the sound, but since you can't use 3rd party sound on the 48h compo I rated as if no sound.
Nice idea! Sometimes I get to place three same-coloured pairs in a row, that doesn't seem fair! The instructions said that rabbits would disappear of their own accord but mine didn't seem to. Pity I didn't get to hear any music.
Looks polished, and the graphics look nice. The gameplay is a little limited though.
A complete tower defense game, very good. As far as I've seen it's not original in the slightest, but good nonetheless.
Nice start, the presentation is reasonable. Why move by pressing space, and not just cursor keys?
Some of the jumps are impossible! I don't advice having the player fall through invisible holes.
Very interesting take on the Tetris theme. The presentation looks good, only I think having the instructions permanently inside the playing area does not look so pretty.
I like your approach to breakout. The game looks polished. The moments you get extra balls are rather random, as the extra balls make the game much easier.
Nice polished game. You managed to make the minimalist graphics look good.
Can't run it. It unpacks but then it says the zip is damaged. When I run the game, it just shows a dark blue screen after the unity logo.
This game showed up in several favourites lists, so I thought, I got to play it. It's polished and well balanced even while the levels have some randomness, but I didn't enjoy it all that much. I suppose it's a little too simple for my tastes, or I've seen this kind of game a little too often (such as line runner which I also didn't like much). Also, minimalist graphics don't work for me (something I found out more than ever during this LD). This should make a good Android game with a bit of sightseeing added though.
Interesting game, nice music! I found cursor left for the right player and cursor right for the left player counterintuitive. The most successful strategy for me was just to keep both players in the same colour.
I ran it in Chrome because it was way too slow in Firefox. Nice, but just a little too minimalistic I think. I'd like to see more interesting things to jump over.
The graphics look interesting. Unfortunately there isn't much gameplay as is.
Nice and well presented game. Good music, pity about the loud beeps which afaik you can't turn off. I do not quite understand all the game mechanics yet, so more instructions would be welcome. I could not figure out why I run out of tiles without the game ending, and why the grey spots sometimes appear only after clicking on a black spot. Also I have no idea what the blue tiles are.
If you had implemented multiple minigames this would have been nice.
I like the idea of producing a "you have to burn the rope" kind of game in as little time as possible. The graphics are good.
Gameplay is simplistic, but it's funny. Avoiding the flashing objects is an interesting perceptual experience.
Great game! I played the postcompo because the controls were too sensitive for me. Good to have the walkthrough, at one point I thought I got stuck because of a glitch.
Look promising, considering I haven't seen many good shooters this LD. I could only play as player 2 in multiplayer. Graphics and sound are good. Nice thing to have a 2-player mode. The enemies are not very challenging though, until you run into that enemy that shoots at you. I never got past that part because player 1 keeps dying while I control player 2.
You really tried something unusual here, I like it. The game plays rather slowly though. Also I think it needs something extra to make it really fun.
Pretty nice for the development time. How about making the game a bit harder to increase play time?
This game doesn't play fair, but I think it's funny and entertaining. I never found out how I beat the first level, but after I'd seen that, the others were a lot easier. I think it's good to make the 1st level a bit easier, otherwise people will really think you have to jump over the obstacles, and will never see the rest of the game. Pity there are not more levels, this could be a hit with more levels. It said I beat the game but I never saw the level featured in the screenshot.
Looks promising. I like this kind of game, only there doesn't seem to be a goal yet.
Fun game! Graphics are great. I do lose track of the player cube sometimes, wbich slows down the game a little more than necessary. Also the movement seems a little laggy, again slowing down a little what I think is should be a really fast-paced game. Some block break sounds are heard in the left and right speaker only, which is unpleasant if you are using headphones. Better to balance them a little more to the center. But these are minor gripes
Link does not work:
Invalid or Deleted File.
The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on MediaFire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or MediaFire.
Interesting idea. I think it's a little too minimalistic as regards gameplay.
Fantastic graphics! However, the player is too hard to control because even the horizontal movement erratically follows the mouse pointer, making gameplay too random. I couldn't get past the second level.
Looks slick, only gameplay is rather limited. The controls make it more challenging, only they feel a bit inconsistent. In particular the vertical controls are so inconsistent I do not like to move vertically. The graphics are nice, only the rock features are hardly visible. Giving them more contrast may make them look more interesting.
Very good use of the theme. About the fading blocks: maybe they would have been nicer if you can clearly see when you can jump through them. Also, making them so that you can (temporarily) jump through them and stand on them as well would have been better. You can also make different types of fading blocks this way.
Cool and enjoyable game. Good graphics and level design. Overall polished feel. A minor gripe is that the score obscures the sign texts.
Interesting concept, transforming in different ways to get to different parts. The game feels solid, only it's a little too short. I think the controls are a mistake, simply use absolute directions instead.
Good start, pity you didn't get more time. What I didn't like is having to guess where my "feet" are.
Very nice, I like the idea of minigames following certain design restrictions (like using only three rectangles). The game modes make this game more interesting.
Pretty cool graphics, and interesting game idea. It would help just to explain the controls better.
Pretty polished, and innovative, though I get frustrated quickly after having to restart every time.
Nice idea! can't remember having seen anything like this before. I think a little polishing could make this into a fun game. Right now I have two gripes: (1) the + and - are not balanced, sometimes you get only + or - on the screen and you can do nothing. (2) selecting the circles is sometimes hard, because you don't get feedback until a second or so later, and sometimes it doesn't seem to register a click.
Graphics are nice enough, only the game could use some work. In particular the shooting mechanic is awkward. I keep shooting the fish that pop up on the left. Why not move the shooter a little more towards the middle? Also, what's the point of having a shot strength when the highest strength is always the best?
I like the graphics and the sound. The game itself is maybe a little too minimal. I beat it in only a couple of tries.
I've played with the idea of making something like this, though I would have expressed different political issues.
I like routing games, but this one is unfinished. I think you should not zoom in so far you can't see where the cars are going. I like the music.
Great concept, it feels like a programming game. It took some time to figure out what to do. The right mouse scrolling control is annoying though.
Nice, well finished game. Great graphics.
Playing this once was an enjoyable experience, but it seems you can't lose and the game goes on forever, so there is not much strategy involved. Maybe it's not so bad if you can't lose, but how about having an endgame criterion (like, buy and upgrade all castles) and using the time taken as the final score?
Nice game concept, and fun to play. I do want to be able to speed the game up, because sometimes you have to wait a long time for something to happen.
Looks very atmospheric, only the game itself feels as if it's impossible.
This plays like an original action game concept. The bare-bones approach does not really seem to detriment from the fun, which for me scores points on the theme. I feel this could be great fun if only I'd get a little more control over my character. Sometimes I get stuck in impossible situations.
A well done game, and innovative in some ways too. The timing puzzles are interesting. I don't mind the gentle difficulty curve, only I'd like to see more levels like the last few. I understand that will probably take a lot of time to design though. I have one gripe, which is that some levels require a bit too much "mouse dexterity", which may be off-putting.
Won the game with $31940. One of the most fun games I've played. There's an annoying bug in the scrolling. If I leave the webpage, the game never stops scrolling, and scrolls right off the map, so you'll never find it back.
The game suffered from huge flicker here, no double buffering? The game is a bit too minimalist as it offers little challenge.
I completed the game. There's something about this game that keeps me want to play to the end. The text works to create a story. Though I completed each level through what seemed more luck than skill, it was an enjoyable experience. I would have preferred to have more colours than brown though.
A lot of content here, I like it. The player hitbox is way too large, which is bad for a bullet hell style game.
Interesting presentation. I'm surprised it's so effective.
Pretty solid dungeon crawler. Could be great with more content. In some cases, enemies get stuck in the narrow tunnels, and there seems to be no way to get past them.
The story that the game tells is interesting, and is a good take on the 10 seconds theme. I can even interpret the game's repetitiveness as part of the story (have patience), but I think a little more depth to the game could make the story more compelling.
I completed it. Nice game with solid platform mechanics and good graphics. I'd like to see more levels! I first thought you had to control both characters at once to complete a level within the time limit, but it was in every case possible to control the top character first, then the bottom one. How about creating more incentive to control both characters at once?
Excellent idea, the replay mechanic. I got stuck at level 8 though.
I always love programming games, and using timing in this way is a novel idea. Very instructive for explaining a traditional microcode architecture. The biggest problem game-wise is that timing alone limits the kinds of challenges you can have. Adding sensors for example makes for more complex challenges. The game runs rather slow on my firefox, about 5fps, which is a bit annoying.
Great graphics and overall presentation. Shooting is difficult though, I can't always seem to shoot in the direction I want.
Nice finished-looking game, only way too easy, at least in the first 10 levels. There is so much food that there is no point to the time limit, and do I really need 27 lives? At around level 10 the game started slowing down and the sounds started looping and glitching (not sure if it's a bug in the game), so I stopped playing. It would also be nice to have more graphical variety in the levels, even if just different colours.
Link is broken. I managed to get a file ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/optimus/gamedev/ld27/bombDaBombFinal.zip, but it doesn't seem to contain a binary.
A good take on the theme. The game looks and plays well, only the collision seems a bit dodgy.
This is a nice take on PvZ, something I haven't seen before here. Very enoyable. Imo there is one frustrating flaw, which is that it's so hard to see in which spot you have to place a gun in order to hit a zombie. But that should be quite easy to fix :-)
I'm looking for games with the theme "destroy everything in 10 seconds" (which was my interpretation of the LD theme), and this fits the bill perfectly.
As is, most things about the game are great, only it needs more balancing. It's too easy, the meteors are too powerful and the floods hardly seem to do anything. I like figuring out the different gestures, but preferably not within a 10 second time limit.
How about having only certain disasters available in each level, or having a limited number of each available? As is, I just go for the meteor because it's the easiest.
Great to see someone else make graphics with my sprite generator. Your game looks good and plays well, though it could use a little more challenge. It appears almost everything is procedurally generated, I like that.
The minigames are nice, it would be great to see more of them.
You made quite an atmospheric game within 48 hours. I did not find the levels too difficult. A bit more graphical variety would further increase its sightseeing appeal, even if just different background-wall tiles for each level. The collision needs to be tighter. The music became grating after awhile.
Well presented, the minigames are a nice idea. The game just needs more levels and a couple less bugs :-)
Aha, another "kill everything in 10 seconds" game! Great game, full featured and polished. I got stuck at level 20 or so, I just don't seem to have enough bullets to kill all zombies.
Atmospheric and good-looking game, only the controls are frustrating. Sometimes nothing happens when I attack the red cell.
I find the idea that you have to figure out which character you control interesting.
You turned the theme into a very nice plot! Altogether very well presented. I'd prefer to have just the spacebar instead of spacebar and ctrl. Also I seem to lose keyboard focus sometimes, so I have to click on the scenery to be able to move the character again.
Great idea! I am surprised it is possible to manoever multiple blobs with this control scheme. Unfortunately there is little incentive to keep multiple blobs alive. In fact, in order to get the lowest death rate, it's best to kill off each spawn as soon as it appears.
I particularly love the sound and music in this game. The animations are a little floaty.
A nice little game. Sound is rather minimal. It should be easy to add a couple more sfxr sounds. I think that having more rapid firing bullets would increase the fun. When reloading after game over I had to wait for a long time for the resources to reload, for some reason.
Doesn't run on my win7 64bit machine. I get error 0xc000007b immediately.
The game feels very complete. The items and the left-right click control scheme work well, although I did get a sore finger from too much clicking at some point. This would be even greater with multiple levels (say, you enter a new room after level 40).
The game is great until it turns upside down, after which some levels become too frustrating, and you have to wait for ages to turn back to normal.
I like the concept! Clever use of the theme.
Looks and sounds very good, excellent work for 48 hours. I think the gameplay needs a little more work though. I couldn't figure out what the timer does, and being hit by a meteor seems random. Also, I found it rather hard to climb the hills.
Those look like procedurally generated ships! Nice shooter, though it could do with more varied enemy behaviour.
Solid and finished looking game. Quite complex and interesting mechanics. I played it a number of times but couldn't quite get the hang of it though. But this could be great with some easier levels!
Thanks for your comments everyone!
I have made the fire propagate about 20% slower by changing the delay from 8 to 10 (no other changes).
Note that you can start at any level by selecting it with the cursor keys!
Great idea! The graphics look good good too. Only, this game is decidedly unfair. Often I start at an edge with only an arrow pointing to that edge and die instantly. In other cases you also don't get a chance to survive.
Works great on Linux. Nice job, it's great to see physics games on LD48. I like the audio too. The obstacles are too random. Hitting the tower was mostly a matter of waiting until I got lucky with the obstacles. I only got to see one tower shape, having more towers would have been great.
Rotating between weapons is an interesting idea. It takes time to get used to the controls. Maybe a control where you immediately switch between the 3 weapons would be better. Before I knew it, it said "you won".
Graphics look good. This is a very promising start for a bigger game. I didn't find it exactly non-linear though, rather it seemed to me like those old-fashioned games where you get stuck when you make one bad choice.
Polished looking game. I like the interpretation of the theme. It could use a little more variation though. Letting the enemies steal all acorns except the last one, and protect that one, seems to be the winning strategy. There seems to be a bug in it, where the enemies take multiple acorns at a certain point, even though you only have one left. That's the point where I died :-)
Good fun playing a text adventure after such a long time. I managed to complete the game without being attacked by zombies.
There is a bug in the .sh script causing it not to work. It works if I enter this:
java -classpath .:./bin:./lib/lwjgl.jar:./lib/lwjgl_util.jar -Djava.library.path=./native/linux com.rynig.ld28.LD28
Great idea, and pretty fun game! The fact that you die instantly from one shot makes it a little random though. Could be great with some polishing.
Nice puzzle game! It took me a couple of minutes to grasp the echoes concept, after that it was fun. The first levels are a bit too easy.
This gets points for weirdness. Is this art? Why 3D graphics? It appeared all my responses were wrong, but at the end it said "bitard loves you".
Cute, I like games with lots of enemies. The problem with exponential increase of numbers means that you die more or less at the same wave every time. The bunnies move too fast to avoid them, so the best strategy seems to be to stand on the leftmost floating platform and shoot down. A more interesting "smartbomb" mechanic could also benefit this game.
I got stuck in level 5. Could not make the jump to the second ladder. I got too frustrated to continue.
The game look solid and well-presented, only the ladder mechanics are fiddly.
The game works on Linux. Cute game! The mega beam was the easiest, because you need so many shots to kill most enemies with the other weapons. The controls are jittery, the dinosaur wouldn't always stay in one place or go where I wanted.
Can't run this on Linux. It requires libGlew 1.10. My system (12.04) only has 1.6.
Very effective presentation. Would love to see a longer game like this.
Looks good, pretty ambitious for a ld48 entry! It took me a while to figure out this game, and there are still things I don't understand. More instructions would help. Sometimes I can dig ore and sometimes I can't, is that a bug or a feature? The player floats through solid rock to ground level when I jump in a tunnel, I assume that's a bug.
I ran this on Linux 64bit, and it works except I don't hear any sound.
Very well presented and polished for an 48h game! A bit limited in terms of strategic choices. After about 500m the game didn't seem to get more difficult anymore.
The game should work on any Java version from 1.3 up to 7. It was made with OpenJDK 7 and also tested with Oracle JDK 7. If the game doesn't work, could you please provide me with OS + Java version info, and stack trace if possible?
Wow, that was weird! I like the 3D objects. I had trouble aiming the grab though, it seems to go into another direction than my swipe.
A really interesting idea. It needs a losing condition though. I think you could also add more strategy by indicating direction as well as location. The game worked fine on Linux.
Original concept! The graphics look good. I didn't hear any sound. Avoiding the dark things seems a bit random. Though you can steer them into a corner with the plants, they also have random behaviour. At one point I got lucky as most of them got stuck. That's how I managed to complete the game.
Really interesting game. This must be the most original game I've seen this LD.
Cute little game. The graphics have a nostalgic feel to them. There is a bug that prevents me from progressing though. I keep falling through platforms, and eventually I fall through the bottom of the level and get stuck. Maybe this is because of the low framerate (less than 10fps). Also I get no sound, is there supposed to be sound? I am running this on Linux, Firefox.
Unusual and intriguing game. I like how it starts off simple, but adds new gameplay elements as the game progresses. Unfortunately the game moves a bit slowly and I got stuck at the "hungry" part. Worms keep popping up and I keep eating them like mad, but I die from hunger every time. It's a pity I didn't get to see the other parts of the game. There seems to be water physics in there as well, and what do the baby moles do? Maybe I'll play this again later when I have more time.
Funny game, sort of like lunar lander on acid! Found it very hard to get hang of the controls.
I like the graphics and procedurally generated screens, which produce an environment that is interesting to explore. It's nice to find out what items do and how to use them. I got hold of the chest but then got stuck in dark rooms.
One of the best games I've played yet! I would have liked to see more colour in the enemies, and pressing 'z' 120 times when giving the fish seems a little pointless. But other than that, great fun!
The graphics actually look good, but the game is rather minimalist. How about increasing difficulty level, and having different enemy behaviours? I think the collision bounding boxes are too large. I didn't get any sound, that's probably because I'm on Linux.
I think the graphics are simplistic, but the game is good fun. There is quite a bit of strategy involved in this game. Maybe it's better to have the mineable blocks in other places than just at the bottom.
This looks like a simple fun game. However, the game moves very slowly, is it supposed to do that? I ran this in Linux/Wine. The player also moves too slow to catch more than a couple of zombies with a power pill.
Interesting game, good work for 6 hours! The game has a number of flaws though, which can be ironed out easily enough with more time, but which mar the gameplay. The controls seem unintuitive. I expect left click to select and deselect, right click to move. Also, it happens often that I accidentally select multiple ships at once, and I haven't figured out how to select a second ship without moving the first one as well. The enemies can appear right on top of you when you're near the haven. Sometimes the ships won't unload when they are on top of the haven. I didn't hear any sound.
Great shooting action! Only I think this game needs a better goal. Right now you can just sit in one spot and patiently shoot everything that spawns in front of you. How about making the player run around to collect things?
Seems very complete and well presented, impressive for 48 hours. However, I got stuck soon. The first 6 levels were all too easy, then I got stuck at level 7, which I found very frustrating. First I have to make a split second jump because the jump cooldown takes so long, and then I am supposed to avoid and shoot at an enemy I can't see. Difficulty balancing is often a problem in LD48, such a pity. How about having the player start at any level?
Great to see who's jamming near you!
Yeah! A salami rocket! Did they add too much preservatives?
-------------Final version submitted-------------
Thanks all for the early comments! I now submitted the final version. Comments above here, except for the one by Duncan, are from older versions.
@pjimmy I added more instructions on how to enter the subgames.
Simple but very addicting. I completed it.
I've used a very similar concept in my own game, and by now have seen several others. But this one is definitely the one with the best graphics and sound! I prefer using the mouse to control the planets, as that would mean less challenging controls (for me at least) and more room for making the game challenging in other ways. This would also make it more suitable for touch screens. The game ran fine in Linux, thanks for including a Linux port.
This game look really promising, only I have no idea what to do when I get to the "gem room". I tried the debug mode but even that doesn't seem to help. Could you please give us more instructions?
Thanks for making this game, you've taken this concept further than most. Maybe you should have a gentler learning curve in the beginning? I never found out why there are texts "you can synchronize the worlds here" that don't seem to do anything. Is that where the players are supposed to wait for each other?
Looks promising. However the biggest challenge was getting the recipies, as the text box in which they appear tends to disappear before I could read it. The game works in Linux OpenJDK except for the sound.
Original and well executed. I think it takes a little too long at the beginning before the game gets challenging.
Pretty solid platformer, good job. I managed to get three skills, but I keep accidentally using the teleport skill, so I have to start over again each time. Ran this in Linux.
One of the few games that worked on my Linux box so far. The graphics look good! But I completed it in 2 minutes. How about more levels?
Interesting concept. Maybe it can be explored further. Is it just my browser or do you have to wait for a second before the character really moves forward? Played this on Linux.
The intro is interesting enough, but what is the goal of the game?
Very interesting concept! You managed to make the solid block graphics look good. Level 3 was too hard for me, one mistake and you have to go all the way back. Is there a level skip feature? The controls are really two-handed, so I suggest moving the color switch keys to the right (for example, J/K/L)
I've used the cursor keys now, and that works better. I'm glad I tried again. The levels get more interesting after level 3. I got to level 7 this time.
Nice and original game mechanic! The game is a bit too easy perhaps, better AI and bigger board? It's sometimes boring to convert that last enemy minion even though you've practically won.
Original idea, polished game. Well presented too, though I would like to see different color schemes.
Very atmospheric intro. Game looks polished overall. Interesting gameplay, though I found timing a little difficult. I'd say the main graphical elements could benefit from more visual or light effects.
That was a really interesting experience. Presentation is really great and the gameplay feels original. I found it confusing though, in particular the location of objects is not clear much of the time.
Nice concept. I like the "computer" theme graphics.
I think it needs a save game, and I'm only saying this because it's one of the few games worth replaying!
Interesting idea, nicely polished game.
Yeah, I love the water cannon! In some cases I can jump higher than in others.
Interesting mechanic. The bars at the top don't seem to do anything, so it's hard to measure progress. Is that a bug?
Looks pretty cool. I had some trouble relating the icons at the bottom to the creature types.
Wow, that looks awesome! I enjoyed the game, although mastering the controls is the game's biggest challenge.
Enoyable and original game. I completed it. In one case I had to shoot enemies not visible on screen.
This game feels like you spent most time on the things that matter most. It hooked me until I completed it. Could do with a bit more graphical variation.
Pretty good, as LD text adventures go. It was easy to complete, but found the story unfolds further after completing it multiple times, taking different paths. Perhaps this can be made into an essential element in the game. Making simple "ms paint" drawings look more interesting by animating them worked for me.
Cool, it's pretty finished looking and is a nice addition to the math games genre as is. Hey, where's the APK gone? I got it yesterday.
The Android version works fine on my Galaxy Tab pro. The game feels nice and complete, though it's rather short.
Creepy. I like the art style. Except the clipping in the sound samples :-)
I played it on my Android tablet. Works well, though the frame rate is slow (15fps or so). Nice graphics, though I'd like to see some animation. Nice music, though the sound effects are a little minimal.
Pretty cool concept, well executed. I understand the music isn't yours but it fits the game pretty well.
Great, a stealth game! Unfortunately it's sometimes impossible not to be seen when a human comes in vertically. I think having more humans with a smaller sight range would make the game more interesting. I think the gate is supposed to open at some point but I've never seen that happen.
Played it on Android. Looks and feels great! I find the gameplay a bit limited though. I think obstacles or holes to jump over would enrich the gameplay.
Played it on Android. Good looking and funny game! I think the gameplay is a bit limited though.
Great work! Must be the most original game I've seen so far. I'm happy it works on my Linux, unlike most entries that have a Linux link.
Cool, a political game! I like the idea of simultaneous minigames as security cameras.
Well presented and good looking game. I found avoiding the lightning bolts rather frustrating though.
Cool concept, graphically well presented with nice animation details.
Doesn't work in Linux. Keyboard controls don't work. This appears to be a problem with Unity as I've encountered it before. Didn't rate.
I tried the Linux version. Keyboard controls act weirdly making the game unplayable. So I didn't rate.
Cute concept! A pity I can't aim my sneeze.
Great storyline! However, it's frustrating to go through the dialogues every time you die.
Great attention to detail. Your game feels far more polished than most dress-up games.
Probably the best use of the theme I've seen so far!
