LD23 — Tiny World

Tiny Dream by Kendja 2012-04-23T19:44:00

Wow, this was amazing!

LD24 — Evolution

TOWER of Evolution by SiENcE 2012-08-27T18:00:00

I thought the black and white graphics were lovely. By the way, that's quite a lot of character sprites you've got there. Impressive!
The death screams made my day. I died deliberately a couple of times just to listen to them ;)
All in all, a great game. Thanks!

The Darkness Evolve!! by juaxix 2012-08-27T15:31:00

Going in with an open mind I really enjoyed this in a trippy kind of way. As others have noted the sounds were a bit loud though, scared me good.

Critter Duels by DWallin 2012-08-27T15:50:00

Really fun to play. The monster combinations it produces look wonderfully funny too :)

Derpymon Blue by vidarn 2012-08-27T16:50:00

Yeah, the pokemon-like title and title screen was just something I added as an attempt at humor.
Regarding the attack power I've nerfed the enemies you meet in the first tournament - to try and make it less frustrating in the beginning.
Oh, and thanks a lot for playing the game!

Derpymon Blue by vidarn 2012-08-27T17:21:00

Hehe. The spells are pretty simple. The blue creatures (water) has an ability that does more damage to orange (fire) creatures, who in turn deal most damage to green ones (grass) with their special attacks. Green ones then have a special attack that is mostly effective against blue creatures.
So it's basically rock paper scissors.
Grey creatures (stone) has a special attack that deals equal amounts of damage to each creature type, but in turn they don't have any weakness against other types.
The effectiveness of the special attacks differ between monsters and is based on their "Fcs" (Focus) attribute.

Derpymon Blue by vidarn 2012-09-05T11:56:00

@juaxix:
Thank you :)
The .love file is actually just a zip-file. If you rename it to .zip and extract it you should en up with the source.
@mohammad:
I don't run windows at home and making a .exe didn't occur to me. However, I'm sad to hear this means you (and possibly others) can't play the game. I'll look into providing an executable. Thanks for the feedback!

Involucion by elxris 2012-08-27T17:04:00

I don't really understand how this game works, but at least it's fun to look at :)

SURVIVE by Ragzouken 2012-08-27T16:59:00

I found it both pretty and fun to play. Oh, and thanks for including a color-blind mode! :D

Badass by Sos 2012-08-27T18:57:00

This is amazing!

133 by fr_automatik 2012-08-27T16:20:00

Hehe, I spent way too much time battling kittens. It was a fun game, and felt really polished.

Life Will Find A Way by zookatron 2012-08-27T18:12:00

Got it to run under Linux by changing all the "\\" path delimiters to "/". However, when i use the ranged attack it keeps crashing with the following message:
Aborting due to Chipmunk error: Moment of Inertia must be positive and non-zero.
Failed condition: moment > 0.0f

The World Tree by shinD 2012-08-27T15:22:00

This was great! Challenging, fun and pretty. Loved it!

Digital Generation by Dietrich Epp 2012-08-28T10:14:00

I liked this a lot! Each of the different levels were both challenging and fun.
By the way, to get it to compile on my linux box I had to include cstring in src/sglib/src/client/type.hpp (it complained about size_t being undeclared) and cstdlib in src/level.hpp (NULL undeclared). Using gcc 4.7.1

Darewin's Missing Link by Nidjo123 2012-08-27T15:40:00

Haha, that was great! The art was both pretty and funny, and I found that the game was short enough that the gameplay didn't get repetetive.

RED PLANET by BuffaloPhil 2012-08-27T17:13:00

Wow! Easily my favorite game of this compo so far. The graphics were great and the mood and immersion were over the top. Then again, I'm a sucker for sci-fi adventures :) Loved it!

LD25 — You are the Villain

The Legend of Sneak Ninja Kill by vidarn 2012-12-19T08:32:00

Thanks a lot for the comments!
I use this usb cartridge to run games on my game boy:
http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card
Great stuff if you're into game boy homebrew :)
Oh, and I'm sorry to hear the detection system caused some of you problems. I had some performance issues with it and had to cut some corners I'm afraid. That's the penalty for using C over ASM I guess...

Dastardly Diver by Spierek 2012-12-17T18:28:00

Awesome!
The music and visuals were superb and gave the whole game a great atmosphere.

Driver by jbb 2012-12-19T13:09:00

A simple game, but I really enjoyed it. Great job!
Regarding compiling it from source, just running "gcc driver.c -lncursesw -o driver" did it for me (provided you have ncurses installed).

O TUTT'I CAVI LESI by Capro 2012-12-17T18:41:00

Great game and, as others have said, awesome visuals.
An unique (in a good way) experience.

DONUT HEIST: Nom in 60 Seconds by jcvsmc 2012-12-17T19:08:00

I loved the gameplay and how I had to re-think my strategy several times to find the best route through the level.
The adrenaline rush when there was one donut left and 2 seconds to go was amazing.
Very enjoyable game!

Glimmy by apeandskate 2012-12-17T19:12:00

Quite fun and interesting game mechanics. I enjoyed it!

Gobelin's dungeon by Manest 2012-12-17T20:50:00

Entertaining and well executed. Great job!

Escape From Prison Planet by gameXcore 2012-12-17T11:55:00

I love the amount of polish you've managed to put into this.
It feels like a really solid game and I had fun playing it.
Great job!

Villain Warehouse by Ramuh 2012-12-17T18:16:00

Haha. This was really fun.
While more minigames wouldn't hurt, the ones in the game were well executed and I fund the graphics and audio suited the playful nature of the game.
Overall I'm glad I played it!

LD26 — Minimalism

Nut Kick by IrfanFox 2013-04-29T18:50:00

Haha, this was pretty amusing :D
Great job!
Loved the ending by the way.

Russian Blob by alcazar 2013-05-01T12:50:00

Great stuff! Interesting game mechanics and really fun level design. I had a blast playing this. The dithering of the sprites were a bit heavy in my opinion, but that's just nitpicking.

simpLify by SonnyBone 2013-04-29T18:30:00

Wow! Simply amazing! I loved the second puzzle. It was challenging but quite rewarding.

Random Objects Smash by Moist 2013-04-29T17:59:00

This was a very fun game. The controls were intuitive and smooth and the game mechanics were simple in a good way, I guess minimalistic is the best word to describe it.

BLM by smealum 2013-04-29T18:45:00

Wow, this in insane (in a good way)!

MiniCrawl by Elemnir 2013-04-30T19:14:00

Cool game! I do love me some ASCII :)
A note to Arch Linux users (and perhaps users of other distros as well): I had to symlink libncurses.so.5 to libtinfo.so.5 inside the game folder and run it with LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./ ./MiniCrawl to get the game to run.

Potato The Destroyer by Cory Martin 2013-04-29T17:47:00

Great stuff! Lovely palette and tight gameplay. A solid game.

Hell Hole by somebear 2013-05-03T19:13:00

Good job on the post-compo version. It fixes all the problems I had with the original game. Keep it up!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

O-Inari Origami by Solifuge 2014-12-15T22:02:00

Fantastic! I am really impressed. I found it quite difficult to incorporate the theme any any special and interesting way. But your does this perfectly and adds an extra twist to it. Well done! Technically I think it is also quite impressive. I really like the art-style and all the graphics fit the paper style very well. Gave you high scores on innovation and theme! (and fun! :) )

The entire game feels very solid. Not just a quick prototype. Since there were many puzzles and very interesting ones as well.

And just so I am also a bit constructive and not just giving you well deserved praise :) I thought the page turning mechanism felt a bit slow. I don't think it would hurt if the game made some assumptions on when and where to let go of the paper. The control of the mouse I have feels a bit to exact and I feel spend to much time moving the paper into the exact place to have it work (even though I already see the solution).

But that is just a tiny comment in an otherwise fantastic submission!

Artful Dodger by Ashtom 2014-12-18T15:32:00

Really cool!
I _loved_ the music and the gameplay was interesting and varied enough to keep me playing quite a while. Great job!

True Story by OrangeeZ 2014-12-10T21:46:00

I never thought I'd say this, but I didn't understand the diharrea machanics :P
It seemed everytime i ate something, my character got diharrea, is that correct?
Anyways, I really liked the graphics and the weird ageing effects, good job!

Go farm! by vidarn 2014-12-09T21:06:00

Thanks a lot for the kind feedback!

@rd127p77
Opting out from audio seemed the right thing to do since we used an online ambient sound mixer for the background sound.

@mortus
We're glad that you enjoyed the game! You are correct, the game is more of a "relaxing Zen thing", there is no way to fail and there is no real goal to achieve. Just farming and having fun I guess :)

Go farm! by vidarn 2014-12-09T21:59:00

@sorlok
I'm sorry to hear that!
What operating system are you on?
Are you sure you dragged go_farm.love to the love executable?

Super Snow Girl by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2014-12-14T19:45:00

I don't care that it's not finished, it was great nonetheless!
The art and music was fantastic and super polished. Great job!

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-10T21:01:00

I liked the panic I felt when Harvey kept moving closer and the rooms didn't slide the way I wanted :)
A solid puzzle game with a nice mechanic! However, the difficulty seemed a bit low. I might have liked a slightly more challenging gameplay.

Jolly Jolly Snowfight! by vanZeben 2014-12-09T21:46:00

Great game! I found the mechanics easy to understand and I appreciated that the controls were visible in the game the whole time. The reloading mechanic was fun but I found that the screen scrolled a bit slow, I often ran straight into snowballs since I didn't see where I was going.

Final Swap by blackmagic 2014-12-14T20:03:00

I love how you managed to distill the final fantasy battles to this extremely simplified version but still keep the complexity and the tactics. Amazing!
The graphics and the music were outstanding and I loved every minute of the game :D

One Does Not Simply Walk Into More Doors by Wertle 2014-12-22T22:26:00

Great game! The cute animations and the sound really made it feel polished and nice.
I also love how you introduce the concepts of the game in a very intuitive way.

Pixplorer by Nega Drive 2014-12-12T14:41:00

I loved the level layout and the exploration. Good job!

LArse by crazyrems 2014-12-10T21:23:00

I loved the creapy-weird graphics, they made me feel really sorry for the little creature.
Great game. Solid and well made!

Alex Takes a Test by Chris M 2014-12-23T22:44:00

Ran super great on my laptop (osx). I really liked the audio aswell. The starting dialogue really set the atmosphere and made me wonder if there was some metaphor going on, with more stages or chapters in the game and more sound I think you could get a very cool story and atmosphere. The puzzle was tricky, I was confused for a good few tries.

You are Green by Downtown 2014-12-15T22:32:00

I love the humorous mood in this, the "sketchy" art-style and the writing fit very well together. I really like the drawing, and animation work, they seem like doodles that someone drew in their notebook yet they are also polished and have a really good animation work, I was really impressed by that!

Gameplay-wise I thought it was fun, I thought the tutorial part (first few stages) was well done, the game got explained clearly and was still entertaining. The difficulty ramps up, which I appreciate but quickly I thought the problems were having a bit of an unfair advantage. (But that could just be me not being good enough)

Again, very nice submission. It made me laugh!
Thank you for your game!

Zoom by ChezPain 2014-12-15T22:54:00

I liked the mood of the game. The dark style, the music and the writing fit well together. I enjoyed it and it was challenging at times. I got stuck on the 3rd level (I think) with the two red squares between individual spikes, I could not figure out how to get past, but that is my problem.

It is a bit unclear at first how the zoom mechanic works and where the big square is placed when zooming out. At first I thought it would use the small square as the center for the big one, but after a few tries I realized that the position of the small square is used for the corner of the big one. It caused some confusion at first, maybe some type of transition would help?

It worked great on OSX and ran very smooth!

Thank you for your game!

A solid game, well done!

Great stuff!

Animal Roar by gillenew 2014-12-09T21:56:00

Wow! I don't know what to say. It was amazing!
It's obvious that you're a very skilled artist. The colors and the animations were spot on!
Great job!

The Shift by SoulGame 2014-12-22T22:45:00

A solid platformer with great graphics. Good job!

Swotch by Ulydev 2014-12-11T22:40:00

This is a really great submission! I thought it was great fun. I really like these types of games that are quick to restart and unforgiving. It really feels like challenge.

I really like the style, music and graphics fit very well together with the gameplay. Also like all the extra effects to add to shakiness. I thought about extra gameplay mechanics, such as power ups or extra lives but then decided that adding such features would not make it as elegant which your game very much is. Everything looks very crisp!

Very fun game! This is one I will keep on my computer.

Screen Protector by Megapiemanphd 2014-12-09T21:29:00

SCREEEN PROTECTOR! :D
(I loved the sounds)

The game looked simple at a first glance but after playing for a while it was obvious that you put a lot of work into it. Everything from the particle effects to the smooth movement of the player made the game feel polished and fun to play.

Orbit Jumper by Luminar 2014-12-23T23:11:00

Super cool game idea! I thought it was good fun and I can see a lot potential! A more polished and complete version would be my dream game! I love the Idea of harvesting from "planets", and flying around to collect.

I think more opportunities to earn coin would not hurt, (was stranded a few times with no way for me to make coin).

Again, super great idea, with more polish, more upgrades (items) and sound this would have been a fantastic game!

Good work on this entry!

Coded Universe by peterthehe 2014-12-09T18:36:00

I really like the idea but I couldn't figure out if there was more to the game than moving things around? I couldn't find any christmas dinner.
A fun experience nonetheless :)

The Beta Bank - A Paragon Pawns Production by DiegoHenriquez 2014-12-10T21:14:00

Wow, this was interesting. I love the unique mechanics. Very challenging but one you got hang of it (and learned the layout of the level somewhat) things got easier.
I would have prefered to have a life bar, instead of immediately respawning as soon as you made an error.
Oh, great graphics by the way :)

Soul Sleep by Technomancer Game Studio 2014-12-10T20:49:00

I liked the art and the sounds. The upgrades were cool and powerful. Good job!

Sorceress Wars by aidinviper 2014-12-11T21:46:00

Nice!
I will try to find a friend to play this with, seems very fun once you have someone else than the AI to play against.
The character portraits were great by the way!

Castle of no escape by BSOD 2014-12-11T14:55:00

I had such a great time playing this game! I will definitely be keeping it on my computer and come back to play more. I loved that the music and graphics that gave it that mysterious feel and I loved figuring out the mechanics. The spellcaster was my favorite character, IQ is such a powerful spell! :D

Viral 0 by DevFrank 2014-12-09T21:14:00

It felt like a solid and well made game. The music was sweet but the sound effects got at bit repetitive after a while.
The strongest part of the game was definitely the slick graphics. Great job on the sprites!
Oh, by the way, I was not that fond of having to install the game. I would have preferred just getting a .exe to run.

LiliLight by Carduus 2014-12-14T19:32:00

Sweet!
The graphics were amazing!
It felt a bit repetetive after a while, but you've definitely got the foundations for a really fun game.

Screen Protector by Rose 2014-12-09T21:38:00

First of, the graphics were great. One of the best looking games I've played so far this LD.
I liked the tactics involved in trying to pick the right moment to switch between the flyswatter and the hand and the slight panic of seeing the entire screen filled with files!
Great job, and fun game.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Glyph Valley by recursor 2015-04-22T20:09:00

I loved it. The game world was mysterious and it was exiting to figure out what each new word did. Good job on creating a compelling game that managed to hook me completely until I finished it. Great stuff!

Uncontrollable Robot by mr_tag 2015-05-10T06:43:00

Great entry! I had a lot of fun figuring out how to make the robot go where I wanted. The graphics were wonderful and I was reminded of Toy Story, which is a great thing.

Holokitten by vidarn 2015-04-24T21:57:00

@jpdev:
That's weird, I've had that happen with a few LD games as well. I have no idea what's causing it, I'm sorry. :(
I usually download those games using Firefox instead, which works fine.
@sebasRez:
Did you try dragging and dropping HOLOkitten.love to love.exe? It should fix the problem :)

Holokitten by vidarn 2015-04-26T12:40:00

@bakpakin:
Sure thing, I've added a link to only the .love file now. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Ice Story ( koori monogatari 氷物語 ) by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2015-04-24T19:59:00

It looked great, sounded great and played great, probably my favorite entry of this LD so far. Kudos!

Animancer by Nick Weihs 2015-04-24T20:43:00

That was amazing!
A fun, fast paced and beautiful game.
I think the game length was perfect, it was engaging the whole way through and the final boss fight was epic!

Mirror Mirror by Kevlanche 2015-04-20T19:37:00

Great stuff!
Fun puzzles and a bit of action :)
My only complaint would be that I think the controls would have been simpler if they were keyboard only, using the mouse felt a bit awkward at times.
However, apart from that (minor) issue, the game was very well polished and I enjoyed both the graphics and the sound.
A solid game, well done!

Cluedont by KamikaziUk 2015-04-20T20:26:00

I think it was great! Keeping notes on paper helped, but it still took some tries figuring it out (at least for me). I liked the fact that the bad guy changed each time you played.
The intro sequence set the mood and the graphics and audio were great.
Oh, and I wasn't offended by the "you suck"-message at all ;)

Dreamfisher by Tanser 2015-04-26T12:56:00

The art was amazing and very moody and I had fun playing for a while, even though the actual gameplay felt pretty standard.

Fathom by Joe Williamson 2015-04-22T19:44:00

Extremely well done. Gorgeous graphics and solid gameplay. I allways expect great stuff from you and you never fail to deliver. Congratulations on a solid game!

Mass-X by hexagore 2015-04-20T19:52:00

Super nice! I had a lot of fun playing the game. The graphics were great and consistent and I loved the fun and helpful speech bubbles.

Quadrata lux by Maek 2015-04-20T18:44:00

I liked it a lot! I found it to be a fun casual game as long as you did not try to "cheat" by just spamming one side of the screen (which was a great tactic, but made the game somewhat mind-numbing ;)
Trying to place blocks in a tactical way to get the best bounces off them was a fun challenge.
Great job!

Ghetto Engineer by Nysten 2015-04-20T20:05:00

Haha, very cool! I liked experimenting with the weapon combinations. I managed to get to the cookies with one of them (spoiler: vacuum cleaner and knife) but most of the other ones I found were hilariously useless :D

Unconventional Earth by GameDevExtreme 2015-04-21T21:45:00

I liked the tutorial and found the game easy to understand. It took some tries until I got good enough to beat the enemy and I had fun playing it and figuring out the mechanics, great job!

Treasure of the Hellbeast by Shpuld 2015-04-24T13:08:00

Fun combat and nice graphics. The game plays very smoothly and is overall very polished.

Bottom : Unconventional Weapons at bug scale by SuperUserNameMan 2015-04-24T13:37:00

Very interesting. I liked the graphics and the music. The controls were a bit difficult at times, when you had to be in exactly the right spot to go around the branch but apart from that, the gameplay was fine! :)

Aqua Marine by Bashabookoos 2015-04-22T20:24:00

Cool game. I liked the different weapons and the fast paced combat. You had a lot of levels with a nice amount of variation. The entire game felt polished and, most importantly, was really fun to play :)

Dabbag by 2k16's Andrei 2015-04-22T20:34:00

Very original. The graphics looked good and the controls were nice once you got used to them. However, the best part was that it was... hilarious :P loved the way the ducks and bears bounced around and the way the other people waved their bears.

Pizza Panic by peecestudios 2015-04-22T20:43:00

Clara Stirzaker and the Crypt of Time by vidarn 2015-12-14T14:17:00

Thanks a lot for the kind feedback! :)
I'm sorry if some of the later levels were a bit challenging.. :P

@5you: Yeah, the embed seems to mess with the keyboard input for some reason. The web link further down the page should work better, however (or the windows build, as you mentioned).
I'm glad you figured out how the controls worked, I was worried it would be a bit confusing.
By the way, I really enjoyed your game too, you can never get enough picross ;)

@_stice: Haha :D

Clara Stirzaker and the Crypt of Time by vidarn 2015-12-18T22:13:00

@Masuno: Thanks a lot for the feedback, I really appreciate it. You've got a good point about the weird mix of fast and slow paced gameplay. I wonder if more well thought out level design could solve some of the issues you mention. I would ideally like the game to be fairly fast paced, but I agree that some of the levels feel slow, probably because of their layout. I will try experimenting a bit with it, thanks a lot for the input and for making me think :)

Drought by Kep 2015-12-16T10:51:00

Took a little while to understand the mechanics, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Might be a little bit too easy though?

Really nice graphics, I love how well animated everything is. I will try playing it with some friends later, the multiplayer modes seem fun.

Poor santa, I crashed a lot! XD
Great job on the graphics and mood. The gameplay could use a difficulty tweak, as others have pointed out. Overall though, well done!
