LD23 — Tiny World

Disregard All Humans by Fireblend 2012-04-23T21:55:00

I liked it but there wasn't much of a challenge. Dodging missiles was basically random when you're at point blank range in order to stomp. Some gameplay tweaks might make this much better. For example maybe have the cities send out tanks to shoot him instead of doing it themselves. Then you have to juggle stomping cities to advance or stomping the tanks to survive and you have be vigilant while you are mashing cities

Tinysasters by Volute 2012-05-14T00:05:00

I would have cut down on some of the complexity of the game mechanics. There is a fairly large option tree which made it hard to initially make gameplay decisions. Mana in particular seemed fairly useless and often counterproductive. Overall though it is a solidly crafted experience.

Dusty by DWallin 2012-04-23T21:44:00

Use left and right to control the Character.

Angle Isle by Rusty Moyher 2012-05-14T00:15:00

I liked this game although a connection to the theme was tenuous at best.

Slime Mold by howieV (binarygirl) 2012-04-23T21:43:00

You managed to get a cool vibe going but the gameplay could be a bit more compelling.

LD24 — Evolution

The Darkness Evolve!! by juaxix 2012-09-14T01:30:00

Mixed feelings about this one. I want to like it but the issues with the camera and the utter lack of gameplay prevent me from doing so.

Embryotic by reverso13 2012-08-27T14:35:00

Gameplay got fairly choppy after a while, perhaps a memory leak?

LimiT by Sakuyan 2012-09-14T02:21:00

Nice job! The last level felt a bit out of place however and the bird kept flying the same exact path which made it too easy to just farm it. I would have tried to implement some sort of puzzle type thing to force you to work towards something while maintaining your food level instead of just focusing entirely on maxing your food intake.

Yellow Dog by Barry Abrams 2012-09-14T03:14:00

Nice pet sim! The connection with the theme is tenuous at best though. This is much more about growth than evolution.

Cellvolution by thewiseguy99 2012-09-14T01:02:00

The gameplay was solid, however the points system wasn't really compelling to me. Something that would have been more interesting to me would have been some sort of diverging evolution. For example, if you picked up mostly red's at the end of the level it would increase your speed, red's could increase your max health and blue's could increase the power up drop rate. Then you could implement more interesting powerups like a magnets, shields, etc.

UN-Natural Selection by Haddy22 2012-09-14T03:28:00

A nice job but there needs to be some tweaks in the gameplay to allow for a diverse population. You breed to get through the round and then the disaster kills off the rest. Eventually you get to a monoculture which then go extinct. More variation plus the ability to breed in several rounds before a natural disaster happens would go a long way.

Hard Life 3X by echa 2012-09-14T03:00:00

A simple soundtrack//sound effects would have gone a long way for this one. Some interesting mechanics although I feel they could be better explained.

Chomp! by Perry 2012-08-27T15:28:00

I had trouble with mouse input, it seemed to register wrong (if I clicked anywhere not on the far left or right the shark would keep moving to the bottom right until it went offscreen. Other than the technical problems I would say you need more of an indicator of whether a fish is consumable or not (a random fish 1/10th your size being able to shrink you isn't what someone would normally assume when you are controlling a shark)

Evolving Threat by JokerDen 2012-08-27T14:28:00

Nice job, my one suggestion would be to have the enemies do a very quick fade in about half a second before the round starts so it's a little less jarring of a transition.

IO VUOLE ZEN by Capro 2012-08-27T14:14:00

In the space ship stage the controls are jerky. My suggestion to you is using bad controls to make a game difficult is taking the easy way out. Make the controls as natural and well-designed as possible and then use intelligent and well-thought out gameplay to create the ragequit-worthy difficulty.

Boxy the Boxcat in Evolution Escapades by matthias_zarzecki 2012-09-14T00:46:00

Nicely done. I agree with what people said about the controls. Both the jumping and the walking felt off. The game definitely could have really used some sort of challenge (puzzles, enemies, etc) to really engage players.

Ulovetion by Colapsydo 2012-09-14T02:12:00

Cool Mechanic. I think you really just need a bit more of an explanation of how the mechanics work though. I eventually won and didn't even understand why.

How evolution really works? by keenblaze 2012-09-14T02:32:00

Nice job! My one nitpick is some of the cutscenes got annoying with no way to skip em (or speed them up) if you kept dying (aka. the last level) I wish this game was longer!

Biovolve by Cryptix 2012-08-27T14:47:00

The trees are a bit too thin and make awkward blockers/platforms from both a visual and gameplay perspective.

In the second lava level you can get stuck and be forced to use the restart key. This is jarring to gameplay and can be solved though thoughtful level design. (for example water/lava/spikes instead of a plain floor.

Human 2.0 by dengzo 2012-09-14T01:22:00

Increasing the pacing of the game would have gone a long way towards making this a much more compelling game. There were a lot of moments where I was just waiting for something to happen. This can sometimes be good thing if you use those moments to build suspense (the eerie soundtrack helps) but the meteors aren't really that scary. Otherwise this game had great atmosphere thanks to the sound and art.

Dissolution by Sergey Mohov 2012-09-14T02:42:00

It's very pretty with a great sound track but it doesn't quite make sense, is far too short and being forced to jump in order to not die isn't explained at all. Not to mention all the items that aren't explained at all.

I was really excited when the game first started and was a bit dissapointed. Overall I feel your ambition for this game was above and beyond what you were able to put out in time for the compo but I hope you will keep working on it and I can't wait to see where you take it.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Evil Inc. by DWallin 2012-12-19T08:06:00

Thanks for the feedback. We are working on finishing it to the point of matching the description we described. I'm hoping to be able to post it before or early this weekend for people to check out. We are also considering creating a more advanced version with a ton more room types and character types and a more interesting upgrade system.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Insert Token(s) to Continue by Sestren 2013-09-15T02:54:00

A cool idea. it could have used a bit more of a ramp up period to give players time to become comfortable with the controls and mechanics. Also having to repeat the same actions every time you restart made replayability take a big hit.

Graveyard Shift by Kortuga 2013-08-27T01:25:00

Slightly more time before I'm swarmed by monsters and a gentler ramp up would do wonders for player engagement and setting the mood. Monsters are much scarier when they can surprise you, like when you hear a monster in a cave in minecraft but you can't see it. Too many monsters at first takes away from the eeriness of being alone in a dark abandoned cemetery.

The Saddest Landscape by BradleySmith 2013-08-27T00:45:00

A great example of the aesthetic first approach. Excellent music and soundtrack fed into great mood and atmosphere. I just wish there was deeper gameplay to back it up!

Crazy Genetist by ratalaika 2013-09-15T03:07:00

The game has a promising mechanic but the execution of it needs some work. The better you get at this game the more success relies on the luck of the draw but games like this should generally have the opposite quality.
A good use of randomness should dictate the nature of the challenge more than the difficulty.

10 SECONDS by Dark Acre Jack 2013-08-27T00:11:00

An interesting experience. Some parts feel a bit dragged out and very clearbut overall it piqued my interest. A simple soundtrack could have really pumped up the ambiance, even if it was just white noise.

Every Ten Seconds A Kitten Drowns by matthias_zarzecki 2013-08-27T00:25:00

A solid game with a good dose of humor. I ran into a bug where cats would apparently show up and drown all without showing up on my screen or radar.

10 Sec Hero by StabAlarash 2013-08-27T01:14:00

BOO-YA, Beat it. I think this game was purposefully designed to give people carpal tunnel.

Sound effects would be super useful for a game as fast paced as this as people are able to process sound slightly faster than visuals.

Also I think a lot of the initial confusion is due to people not realizing that items carry over despite "death", this is counterintuitive. One way you could make this more clear is by changing it thematically to the dungeon teleports you out after 10 seconds instead.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Gem Worm by DWallin 2014-04-30T21:04:00

I didn't have time to implement the final parts of the mechanic which were the worm getting longer and him pooping gems.
