LD24 — Evolution

Player 2, start! by GSM Productions 2012-08-29T07:12:00

@MegaBrutal : Thanks for the bug report, we were really busy sleeping yesterday, but I'm going to check what's wrong with this file (it shouldn't even be loaded). As for "god", it's because we implemented a "god mode" for debugging purposes :D

@SiENcE : Thanks! It's planned. Also, today I'll be trying to make an executable out of what we have so far. You can definitely go through the five levels, with ennemies and a certain number of stars to collect in each. So it's more or less a game? :D

Player 2, start! by GSM Productions 2012-08-29T07:20:00

@MegaBrutal : It's fixed! You should now be able to launch the game :)

LD26 — Minimalism

Stargazers by Cake&Code 2013-05-06T10:26:00

Wow. The game feels very, very polished, and in addition the gameplay is fittingly minimalist. Presentation is really great, and the gallery was a great addition. Not only was it neat to catch the references you missed, the writing was very well done. Congratulations!

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-04-30T12:18:00

There you go, please tell us if anything goes wrong with it! :)

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-04-30T17:29:00

Thanks for the feedback! The idea was to have items placed around the maps (in particular the village) so that exploring it would have proven rewarding at least, but time and all that... ^^;

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-05-05T15:28:00

Finally, we have a 32 bit build for Linux. Sorry for taking so long, and hope you (and others) will enjoy the game!

Too bad you couldn't complete your entry, but assembly? Impressive feat. Will try it and give you some feedback :)

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-05-06T08:23:00

Thanks for the feedback! Should have prevented players from going back south when on the first map, we completely forgot to check that! Thanks for playing in any case :)

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-05-06T10:19:00

@Dietrich Epp : Thank you :) Just tried your game, really good one! The escape things is one of the bugs we found was still on the "to fix" list after we had published the game :o That's what being tired does...

The main menu thing we never got around to finding out exactly what it was. As for the dialogues, it was supposed to be a bit more spaced out, and there was supposed to be something more to do in the village, but we had to cut corners, same thing for why it crashes when you go back south : it was supposed to be possible, but we couldn't add it in time.

The names were playing on the idea that those guy are indeed almost the same, but with such a short time to get introduced to them all, it didn't quite gel.

For next time, something we definitely will focus on more is thinking about "restarting" right from the start. When we decided to see if we could, for example, restart the fight in case of a game over, the code was already not really thought to do that.

Thanks for all the comments anyway, and for reading the dialogs :D

@Cake & Code : That crash is really showing us we should have put the game into somebody else's hands. We almost never did that, so that bug was known, but we filed it as "detail", whereas it seems to be something people do quite consistently (and is logical, in fact).

Thanks for liking the story, one of us worked almost all weekend on it (writing dialogs, planning "cutscenes", ...), she will be very glad :)

The position reset thing happens randomly, and seems to happen more to some people, without any clear lead as to what in the code causes that. It is a complete mystery to us unfortunately :( But no, it is not intentional...

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-05-18T07:22:00

@R

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-05-18T07:26:00

Oops...

@Rastagong : Thanks for the kind words! You are right, the bugs left in there are pretty severe, and the difficulty having being set by us means it was a bit too hard. I guess that is our main lesson this time : put your game into the hands of others.

@Doublecaster : Thank you, and sorry for that bug, we know it is really annoying.

@MegaBrutal : No problem! A version including that missing file is uploading right now, so if you want you will still be able to play it. And yes the tileset of the village is not really "readable". Hopefully it will be better outside of it XD

Controlled Diet by euske 2013-05-06T07:37:00

Very nice idea, altough quite unforgiving at times. Really felt like an older game, loved it :)

Music with the sky by pinion 2013-05-06T07:42:00

Nice idea, but as you said using an Azerty layout did not make it any easier. :) After a while you got used to the keys though. The Enter key still worked after the end of the game, took me a moment to realize nothing would really be happening anymore.

The One Road by Dietrich Epp 2013-05-06T10:10:00

Great! I loved the music and sounds, and I loved how you really managed to strip down the JRPG formula to its very basic core. Really, really cool!

SQUARE TRIANGLE CIRCLE by danblack 2013-05-06T07:49:00

Very, very nice mechanic. Took me a while to figure you could drag the shapes before dropping them, but after that the game really became fun. I don't know how the difficulty progresses as time goes on, but it could have become harder a tad more quickly. As other said, you should polish this one up and release it on mobile platforms :)

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Hail Of Bombs by tinyworlds 2013-09-02T07:27:00

Well done for less than 5 hours! Went up to 330-something before I lost. The music was very nice, and kept your interest up!

SimDare by Michcioperz 2013-09-02T12:42:00

Nice idea (same timezone btw, I know how you feel!), but the execution could have had a tad more polish. I did not realised I was dead until a minute or so had passed :D But good idea though, always funny to come across such meta-games.

NSA's Where's Snowden? by Will Edwards 2013-08-27T09:17:00

Great and very, very impressive work! Game is a tad complex for me right now after the lack of sleep induced by the jam, but I will come back and try to really complete it. The theme is not really there though, but you still did an amazing job!

Prism by LiamJPeters 2013-08-27T11:29:00

Wow, impressive work! I had trouble differentiating yellow/orange orbs, and the game was reaaaaaally fast for my tired self :D Does feel very polished though, from the intro to the gameplay itself. Very well done, would love to see this expanded into a full(er) fledged game.

Nyan's Invaders by VoidChronos 2013-08-28T13:56:00

Nice little game. Would have liked it if you got back on the screen gradually though. Still a nice effort. :)

6th Station by juaxix 2013-08-27T12:14:00

Loved the movie, and the game was nice, if bit too easy. No audio for me though (Linux), there may be an issue there.
Good job nonetheless!

Timestealers by Merkurius Team 2013-08-28T11:56:00

Couldn't play online either, sorry :(

House Of Wolves by albertelwin 2013-08-29T16:31:00

Nice and trippy, but more of a technical feat than a really engaging game in my opinion. The visuals were pretty neat though, and innovative rendering technique!

90 Degrees by HD408 2013-08-28T11:54:00

A great idea. Text-based games with a time limit is something you do not see often. I really feel there is something to be explored further here, and your game is a great proof of concept!

Tap to Whack it Back! by hardycore 2013-09-02T14:18:00

Unfortunately, it crashes instantly on my Windows 8 :( Sorry :(

Survive by Andresh 2013-09-02T12:18:00

Simple idea, and looks deceptively easy at the beginning. But then there is a rapid change from that to frantic movement. Loved it, even with the very crude graphics and no sound!

The Call by Yakka 2013-08-27T11:50:00

Brilliant. Nothing short of brilliant. I loved how the narration unravelled the more and more you played, and I think the idea fits the theme very, very well. I would have liked a bit of audio feedback maybe, but still, kept playing over and over to explore more of the paths. Have I said this is brilliant?

Pube by magicdweedoo 2013-08-30T09:54:00

Weird, but the good kind of weird! A bit reminiscent of what David Firth (Salad Fingers) do. Strangely fascinating, even given the subject matter that seem rather low-brow at the beginning.

Bomb Defuse Simulator 2013 by Aceria 2013-09-02T11:34:00

Disclaimer : did not rate in all categories (something like "Fun" is really meant to be felt while playing, for instance), but you deserve some recognition for your great experiment! Hopefully you will continue on that path and make many really innovative experiences like that!

Capitall by the.vaber 2013-08-28T11:01:00

Excellent work! Loved the atmosphere and the visuals, which are right up my alley anyway, but really well executed!
The gameplay was a tad too challenging, especially since it was relatively difficult to see holes when you have so little time to reach the platform. It felt like a game of luck most of the time. But great work nonetheless!

sine by timtipgames 2013-08-27T09:35:00

Took a bit of learning, but really good feel afterwards. Nice mechanics, and the whole game feels quite polished. Great job!

@archaeometrician
Hi! Thanks a lot, we did our best :) We're Belgian actually and indeed use azerty. I'll see what we can do for the W, that's kind of weird... To open the door, you just have to press <spacebar>, that's the action key ;)

@Generalgore
Thanks! You'll make us all blush :) Glad you liked it, it was a lot of work!

(Ephy, member of GSMProd's team)

Get well soon by GSM Productions 2013-08-27T08:48:00

Well those control issues are no more, we had changed them but the build we uploaded did not have this change for some reason. I have also put the builds in archive files to speed up the download :)

(Grungi, another member of the team)

PS : Thanks for all the nice words!

Get well soon by GSM Productions 2013-08-27T10:10:00

Wow, people... Now I'm really blushing. We're all so glad you like the game! We of course worked a lot on the mood, since this is a survival horror (where did you get that idea of us being inspired by Silent Hill, ahem, ahem, I wonder).
Thanks a lot to you all!

@Brejlounek
You're right of course about skipping the intro. Unfortunately, we didn't have the time to implement that feature during LD, but that's something we could add in the future!
For the monsters' attack, we'll have to see if some other animation is possible... that wasn't in our to-do list (yet) but we might think about it :)

Get well soon by GSM Productions 2013-08-27T10:42:00

@zanval
Well normally the monster shouldn't see you if you're hidden (in a room, behind a pillar, etc.); but then, perhaps it simply went toward you by pure chance.

@Larzan
Ouch, dvorak keyboard? We indeed didn't think about that... I'll try to see what the devs have to say ;) We didn't think to implement the arrow keys because you need to use the mouse to look around.

Get well soon by GSM Productions 2013-08-27T11:24:00

Hi, dev here (confusing with these team accounts :p)
@zanzal : The monster will try to investigate the last position it saw you at, then quickly move away. We must admit it is a tad too much based on luck though, we bit off more than we could chew and the balance suffers a bit in the end I think...

@Larzan : If you are on Windows/Mac OS, you have a config window that pops up when you launch the game, in which you can remap the keys to your liking. Unfortunately, under Linux, that window does not appear (yet). And we had no time to implement that remapping ourselves, unfortunately :( Sorry if you are out of luck, our call maybe was not the best one, but we had to decide, very sorry :(

Get well soon by GSM Productions 2013-08-27T12:54:00

(Grungi, aka a dev)
Thanks for the kind words once again!
@Tifu: Will try your own survival horror as soon as I am back on Windows if no one on the team tries it first. But the keycard was indeed the key needed to open the door to the stairs. There is a second keycard on the lower floor to open the door to the lobby and reach the ending. And sorry for the intro, we ran out of time for that kind of polish!

Get well soon by GSM Productions 2013-08-27T15:58:00

(Grungi)
Unfortunately no one in the team has a Mac to test that build so we really rely on Unity for it... That said I will ask around and search the net to try and see if there is something we could do to make it work for you. Does a Mac app need to have a certain permission to be run? And you did see that it is a zipped app I guess? (Just checking...)

@kristof
Thanks for telling me about the '!' This is definitely something that I think may cause problems! A web build and a (hopefully) fixed Mac versions will be incoming, today or tomorrow! Thanks again for the heads-up!
@motty:
Do you have a 64bits system? Do you think a 64bits build could help with your problem? We are on Arch Linux 64 (both devs), and it works there, but I have no clue about something that could be different on Ubuntu...

@everyone:
Thanks so much for all the kind words! It really means a lot to us!

@Mekuri (and others that want to have a little help).
There is a keycard on a table in one of the rooms on the right (when you leave the first room you start in). It opens the locked door to the stairs, and there is a second keycard in a room again on the right side of the ground floor that opens the lobby. Good luck, and be careful downstairs ;)

Thank you all very much for all the awesome feedback, we are really, really humbled!

@Lokarunith : It is not very clear, but the card is actually a key card (the inventory description says as much), which lets you open the door to the ground floor. Then on that floor there is another key card to open the lobby. You can take a look at the postmortem and the video (linked at the top) if you want to get hints and/or experience the ending!

Ss previously said, we totally agree about the skin intro, simply didn't have enough time to implement it. Same for additionnal animations. Thanks a lot for all the compliments though! We're all reaaaally happy you all find the game so scary :)

@Antidote
That was also planned but, again, not enough time :) Will probably do it for a following release though!

@Yakka
Hahaha, well, we're Belgian, so we all use AZERTY keyboards ;) We wouldn't have been able to test our own game without that!

Again, thanks a lot everyone!!!

@kraj0t : Thanks! As the guy making the music, that makes me very proud happy :D

@whiteravens : Yeah, the level design is quite simple. But you know, jam and all that. Thanks for the kind words anyway!

@Jupiter_Hadley : Thanks again for featuring us, and even more for being scared!

@Colapsydo : Thank you very much! That said, the elevatorish door is a texture problem, and actually the stairs are not that way, but in the door just in front of the nurse station. It will be fixed!

@EmptyFlash : We appreciate it! Glad you had a good time with the game!

@Atmospherium : That cursor thing is like number 1 on our to-fix list. This is actually our first unity game, so we did not mess around with the character controller that much. But thanks for the super kind words, and know that we are indeed planning on taking this game to the next level in the next few weeks/months!

The King's spin by Mironix 2013-08-28T13:14:00

Loved the voiceover, but did not really "get it" ? I ran around for quite a long time, but nothing happened, only more goblins :D

10 seconds to Dehydration by Dissing 2013-09-02T13:44:00

Interesting concept, but I cannot really put my finger on what was holding it back... Hope to see you expand on it further down the line!

Midlands Noire by Ysty 2013-08-28T12:08:00

Great atmosphere, and some nice detailing (statue's shadow, the second ending, ...). The mood was really eerie, excellent job for your first 3D game!

Rewind by sergilazaro 2013-08-27T12:56:00

Nice game! It took me a few minutes to get what was the objective but once I got it, it was pretty fun to play. Pity there weren't any music for such a game though. Very nice designs!

Get Out! by LordHellMaX 2013-08-27T18:49:00

Well done, fellow Survival Horror makers! Sometimes felt that space did not work immediately though. The environment was maybe a little bland. But good job!

Woodman for President by lcarpentier 2013-08-27T11:38:00

Loved how you worked the theme into the game. Feels like a very 'complete' experience, which is always great. It was really a good idea served by a very good execution. Well done!

Short Nightmares by Martin_Monosys 2013-08-28T22:29:00

Another horror game \o/ Unfortunately I was not able to complete the third night: the sensitivity of my mouse was WAY too high, and it made it very difficult to orient myself. That said, the aesthetics of your game are awesome. The textures are so perfectly fitting... And the audio is great too. Might come back to it to finish it if I have time. Very well done!

10 Seconds Quest by Nora Shishi 2013-09-02T15:15:00

Spectacular pixel art, as always. And very neat game, getting past level 3 was beyond me, but with some sound a tad more balancing, it could be a really great game!

CyberMaiden by NightShadow0 2013-09-02T14:31:00

Neat mechanics, second chamber was really hard though. But the idea is solid! Good job!

Love you more by Jod 2013-08-29T16:17:00

Great story and take on the theme! You really used the visual novel format very well, and produced an highly engaging work. Very good job!

Faster Than before by martijn 2013-09-02T13:00:00

First off, I got "Inside a Star-Filled Sky" vibes from both the graphic style and the gameplay (even though they are not really alike mechanics wise...). So that is a very good thing. Then too bad the audio was mainly the drum loop for a long time, it got a little grating after a while. Very good concept though, with enough polish, this would make a very nifty game.

Umbra Machina by TheMaster99 2013-08-27T12:37:00

It was a bit difficult to tell what was going on. The static background made the jumps look strange at first (since it looks like the platforms are going down rather than you going up). It also felt like I was teleported and smacked around quite a bit, again making it difficult to tell what was going on.
I also did not see any kind of animation for pressing the space bar? Was I really hitting anything?
That said though, the music was pretty awesome, and the graphics look nice. I really think the main thing your game need is a bit of "tightening" so that everything feels a bit more polished. But good job already!

#hindsight by ComicSans 2013-08-30T09:43:00

Very nice little point-and-click. The art was especially good. It did feel a bit "rushed" (the game, not the art), but it was still a whole lot of fun trying to get various endings :) Good job!

10 second roguelike by jackyjjc 2013-09-02T13:54:00

Nifty! At first I thought it was almost impossible to win, but I finally did! Kinda addictive, and very well made!

10 Seconds of Grey by Almax27 2013-09-02T11:52:00

Outstanding presentation! The mechanic was a little confusing, and there was a lot to read if you did not want to blindly mash answers and lose all your time and the same time. It is a shame that you were not able to add everything you wanted to make it a full experience though, because the game exudes flair like few other I have played so far, and I love how even the credits/game over screens are playing with the theme of the game. Also, is Mr Grey wearing an orange Pebble or something ? :D

YOGH@)!$Q#4$%7GDF: Destroyer of Keyboards! by greysphere 2013-08-31T07:34:00

Funny! Did not think I would play more than once, but I sure did! I love the name and the title picture, really well done. Simple mechanics but way too fun!

Chicks And Dungeons by Kotstulle 2013-09-02T11:44:00

Nice art style, too bad about the sound and music though, I think you probably should have abstained from keeping it in your submitted version, but that's my opinion. With that out of the way, I love gameboy-style games, so yours was right up my alley. The idea feels fresh, if a bit difficult due to some wonkiness in the jumping. But very good job for your first LD!

Dimming by Kep 2013-08-27T19:01:00

Well done for 48 hours! The audio was pretty tense, except for the scream when you fell, which was a bit funnier (sorry). The game is pretty difficult though, it is easy to get stuck without light. Nice job!

Dirty Rotten Seconds by siat 2013-08-26T15:20:00

It doesn't start on Firefox, you might want to note this :)
I got it to start in Chrome and I must admit it was fun! I like the graphics as well, simple but effective, they totally give a mood to the game. Just one thing bothered me: the AI started playing before I was done reading the rules, so I missed a few levels because I wanted to get what I had to do before starting.
Still a cute little game!

10 Seconds of Love and Anger by kcpunk666 2013-08-30T09:48:00

Loved the art style, and the mechanic is pretty interesting. Also, very good reuse of only 2 types of obstacles to create varied challenges. I also felt the length of the game was right for the amount of content you had. Very well made.

Backstep by ShiverGaming 2013-09-02T15:22:00

Nice idea, sort of reminding me of a game I made (with my personal account, not this team one) where I had exploration followed with a maze. Nicely done, too bad you did not manage to make it feel a bit more "complete". Kudos anyway!

A Living Shell by kraj0t 2013-09-02T13:51:00

Excellent work, very impressive mood! The camera implementation was really great, and your voice acting really added a lot of weight to the game. Sure, there was not much "game" in there, but it was impossible to not go until the end. A job very well done!

Cube Wave by justicegames 2013-08-28T11:27:00

Nice "juicy" effects (glow, pulsating while firing, etc...). It lacked a bit of variety though (secondary weapon maybe), and the shooting sound got kinda irritating, but it was a solid, well executed if basic shooter. Hope you'll build from there and make amazing shooters in the future (I love them) :)

Blinking by Anoarith 2013-08-30T10:09:00

Very well executed! The use of music and rhythm really made the game shine, it felt better than if you used a visual cue. And it is a nice touch that you change the music from level to level to keep it from becoming tedious. Very well done!

This One is Called Anger by TheOtherMario 2013-08-28T11:50:00

A little buggy, and very hard, but congrats on finishing your game after hitting that roadblock. Love the context you put on something that could have stayed more abstract and bland.

Deathwish Dan by JHollands 2013-08-28T12:37:00

A-we-so-me :D This game was great, art style was a bit McPixel-ish, as was the random humour/death/actions. And that ending... Very well done, good sir!

10 Second Shooter by mcbeckjr 2013-08-27T11:16:00

Simple but fun! Not a big fan of the music though

Hurry UP! by Sense 2013-08-28T07:03:00

Nice game. Good graphism (the character is cute).
Game play is fun...
Just one question: why no backward?

Hurry UP! by Sense 2013-08-28T17:27:00

Wow, amazing art! I really like it! The graphic mood feels great. I'm really lame at platformers so I don't manage to go very far XD
Pity the mood was a bit ruined by the jump sound though, I thought it really clash with the designs.

Doc 2 Da Future by mcburrobit 2013-08-27T09:11:00

Ten Seconds by motty 2013-08-28T12:11:00

So hard Oo But very fun and clever use of the theme! Well done!

Ahh! It's Chasing Me! by Zknet 2013-08-28T11:23:00

While the concept is good, I feel the execution lacked some important things (even keeping in mind it is your first attempt, which is something I congratulate you on :D). Mainly, the lighting was way, way insufficient. I would have gone for a flashlight or included lights in the environment itself, to give a better sense of position and depth to the world. As of now it was really a "I hope I stumble in the right direction" kind of things, even on repeated playthroughs, because it was near impossible to know where you were. That said, hope to see more horror (or other!) games from you in the next LDs to come!

Blobb has enough time by bitowl 2013-08-27T12:08:00

Nicely executed! I wish some hitboxes were a little tighter, especially when you need to move barrels and the like. But other than that, good use of the theme, and great variety of levels!

Navigator by osthekake 2013-08-27T12:51:00

Nice one! Could have used some audio, but apart from that it was a very good puzzle game! Loved all the takes on the same basic level too!

The Lost Robos by almightyzentaco 2013-08-28T13:03:00

Great stuff! Very impressive intro and polished feeling. The only thing I couldn't get to work (unfortunately kept me out of the game) was the special abilities... Maybe that's because I am not on a qwerty keyboard, so I'm using a layout switcher... But I could never get the shield raised... :( Still a solid experience, and the trailer was a nice touch!

ShitStorm by BubbleTea 2013-08-27T12:29:00

The controls felt a bit wonky at times, but it was fun for a while. After a couple of levels though, I was wishing the Mute button would work. Although I am not a big fan of this kind of humour, the gameplay was interesting, so well done on that :D

Muovt!!! by superfrog 2013-08-28T12:28:00

The concept is there but the execution is lacking, in my opinion. Some simple things you could have done are: 1) tighten the controls, to make the game feel more responsive, and faster-paced. It felt more like walking than running. 2) Limit the camera rotation, it felt pretty jarring when you could do 360 vertical rotations. 3) Give any way to better judge the length of your jumps. Or change some of the longest ones (I am thinking of level 4, after the first pickup). It was frustrating when it seemed you could make the jump, but then failed.
Finally, as you did not "slide" along walls when hitting them at an angle, and since the pickups were quite far apart, the game was fairly hard.
That aside, I loved the idea (I am a fan of that kind of running games), and loved the atmosphere you were going for with the sound and the color palette. Continue making games!

Final Glow by Yword 2013-08-28T11:14:00

Awesome effort! The production values are quite high, even if the music got a tad repetitive towards the end. But you could clearly expand the game and the mechanics and have post-compo version of this. Congratulations on the great game!

10 Seconds In Hell by tylorlilley 2013-08-28T12:44:00

Excellent roguelike. Loved the few colors and the theme. It was hard though, so I never finished it, but if the intro is any indication, I would have loved to see the ending!
Cheers for your first LD completion too!

Ten Seconds To Live by TiRSO! 2013-08-27T10:38:00

I got everything quickly except how to actually open the door of the room XD But the game was fun, though a bit short (but then, LD ^_-). And I really like the design!

The 10 (other) Seconds Journey by PaperBlurt 2013-08-30T10:33:00

Funny twine game, if a little disconcerting :D Managed to beat it on my second run though, felt pretty good. And all in all a very nice experience, really different!

Cosmic Commander by UnorthodoxGames 2013-08-27T13:00:00

Very very nice game, and one which I would love to see expanded. There was a bit too many ships the first time around to really grasp quickly what was happening. But with a difficulty curve well adjusted, or a tutorial, this could be really awesome! (Oh and with sound too :) )

Forefought by US_of_Alaska 2013-08-28T13:07:00

That was just great :D Presentation could have been better, but it was very funny. And that grey background... Yummy XD

Sigma Squadron: Ten Seconds to Love by Kyle Mac 2013-09-02T13:08:00

Very polished, nice tonematrix (or similar) music, and good gameplay as soon as you figure out the thing dropped are indeed clocks you should pick up. The graphics were really nicely done. The drop rate seems a bit random though, and I did not care very much for the voice over, especially when first time I died I did not, in fact, quite understand you were supposed to grab what I thought were enemy bullets :D But solid entry nonetheless!

10/10 by bobblehat 2013-09-02T12:13:00

You really, REALLY, should expand this one and make a full game out of it. I cannot even begin to list all the ways this premise could be explored in fun ways (actually yes, I can : multiplayer modes, more bombs/bots, different kind of arenas...). What you have here is great, with adequate production values, but this has the making of an awesome arcade game. Keep it up!

Seconds by kevinAlbs 2013-09-02T12:31:00

Very clever on various levels! While I have seen this interpretation of the theme several times, the way you used it alongside the standard "10 seconds timer" was really nice. You could have stopped at "you have ten seconds to get to the green circle", but that extra context gave a great deal of appeal to your game. I also liked the visual representation of time ticking as your "neuron" grew smaller, nice touch. The gameplay itself was really addicting, fast-paced yet you had to think and anticipate since the receptors moved through the walls. Really well made, and funny writing to boot!

Hunted by Back to Browse Entries 2013-09-02T12:46:00

I did not quite get the goal of the game, and the controls were hard (again, AZERTY keyboard here), and seemed to only work when they wanted to. Also, is that a Minecraft chest texture I spy? :p

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Kulomin 2013-08-28T17:12:00

Designs are beautiful and I really like the music, but having an azerty it's pretty hard to play...

Injured Eternity by Lissar 2013-08-28T14:11:00

Very well done! Still haven't completed it after 15 tries, but feel I am close... Great job and very good way to use the theme creatively!

Time Rupture by Tanser 2013-08-27T09:22:00

I am not sure the game is running correctly (Linux). No sound at all, and I run around collecting stuff but I can never do anything except get a game over after 10 seconds. Do I do something wrong or is it something else? Great visual style though!

I need to save the world! by sheigeno 2013-09-02T13:27:00

Very well executed! The graphic style just came together really well, and the gameplay was fun and addictive. Great job!

Ringtastic by Vectorious 2013-09-02T14:06:00

Cool idea, not really much to say, it is a simple take on the theme, but really well executed. The fact that the rings give off light is a nice graphical touch. Keep it up!

The Red Button by GreenyUk 2013-09-02T13:20:00

Very cool graphic style, kinda hard to control on an AZERTY keyboard (WASD is awful on those), and did not know about Shift. The music was also quickly irritating, unfortunately. But all in all, good variety in the level design and good job!

Houston, we have a problem by levsha128 2013-09-02T14:09:00

Interesting take on the orbit-based game I have seen elsewhere. Feels pretty polished, even if it would have greatly benefited from some sound. Good job in any case!

10 Seconds of Thrust by Kramin42 2013-08-27T08:55:00

Nice use of the theme, and very cool minimalistic idea. I do agree that it is very hard though, and I have not been able to get very far from Earth yet. Maybe a video or some tips could help making the game more approachable for clumsy guys like myself? Good job in any case!

Notes on departure by kristoffer zetterberg 2013-08-28T14:16:00

Very gripping. Some will argue that this is not a real 'game', but I felt that the single bit of interactivity was really what made the story so impactful. Masterfully done.

Justify by ChrisPugh 2013-09-02T14:13:00

Wow, such a great and well thought-out experiment! Hopefully you'll get quite some votes in the subreddit, and will be able to offer interesting conclusions. Stressful in any case :D

Decem Libros by Hitonagashi 2013-09-02T14:47:00

Did not really "get it", and it was difficult to play on my small-ish laptop screen. Seems that you do have a good idea though, just needs a way to convey it better.

Once upon a Night by zanval 2013-08-27T10:34:00

Great job! Arrow keys did not work (had to remap my keyboard because I am on azerty so WASD is hard :D), but after that smooth sailing!
I love the arcadey feeling of the game, it is paced just right, and I love the coherence of the graphic style (maybe the sun is a bit out of place, but then again it is easier to spot that way). The music felt also really appropriate. All in all, great job, and very cool idea that fits very well with the theme and scale of the game!

DEAD OF THE NIGHT by tiooonnn 2013-09-02T14:25:00

Fun, but is it just me or is it reaaaaally short? That's too bad, because I usually enjoy good text-based games... Keep working on it!

Antipodist by Zap 2013-08-28T12:14:00

Very well made. Simple idea, but the execution gave it a great sense of accomplishment when you managed to keep the barrel going for longer and longer stretches of time. Congrats!

10 SECONDS by Dark Acre Jack 2013-08-28T14:43:00

Very peculiar experience, with a strong punchline and the polished (even with the lack of sound) that I came to expect from Dark Acre :)
Another job well done!

Proletarian Ninja X by deepnight 2013-08-30T10:20:00

As always, very impressive, and very solid game. The level shown in your main screenshot is way too hard though :D

Distress Signal by Kohijin 2013-08-27T19:11:00

The idea is really fresh, but I guess 10 seconds is a tad too much of a delay, and the pictures are so bad... Well, they look great, but from a gameplay perspective they make it really hard to understand how fast you move and exactly where you are going.
I think you stumbled on a really innovative idea there though, one that I would really like to see expanded upon and turned into a more approachable form. Good job in any case!

Chronodrive by ekun 2013-09-02T14:03:00

Excellent mechanics for a shooter. It is indeed very hard, but the ideas inside are so great that I couldn't stop playing. Incredible! And I loved the retro style, too!

Black Hole Runner by MatrixBai 2013-08-28T12:53:00

The vertical movement was so slow it became a bit jarring. Other than that, it is a pretty neat game, if simple. But the speed issue made it too tedious to keep playing for very long.
But love how you adressed this issue on this page :D

Pro Crastinator by Jedi 2013-09-02T12:08:00

I cannot believe there was no "done" screen when I finished mowing the lawn :D I felt so empty... Too bad you could not finish it though, I'm willing to think it might have been really funny!

Tokyo Station by Mark Ffrench 2013-09-02T13:39:00

High production values for such a quickly made game. Very well done! I still cannot decide if I like audio of graphics more :D

Dig Dream by kill0u 2013-09-02T11:29:00

Nice game and concept, but the controls are sometimes a bit "loose". The art was great though, and the first level was pretty well balanced. The second one was too hard for me to complete. The music was also fitting. Very well made all in all!

10 seconds of hell! by djdduty 2013-08-28T11:34:00

Such a simple idea, yet such an addicting game. Really good arcade-style game! It runs really well, and it is the kind of quick thinking/reflex game that really get you to try again and again to improve. Really well done!

Countdown Hell by robashton 2013-09-02T14:17:00

(Hey Rob, Grungi/Bastien that guy from Belgium here!) So. Much. Particles. :D Makes for a great little shooter though (not only the particles, I mean). Got quite into it, and loved the audio cue that the timer was almost out. Very well done!

The 10-Second Murder by Rose 2013-08-27T09:33:00

I love investigations, so I quite enjoyed the game! I'm not sure I found all the possible clews though since a spot was left empty at bottom right. So I'm a bit frustrated I had to try several options out of feelings to end the game instead of having found one last good clue...
It was still pretty enjoyable! :)

I'll Give You A Head Start by Tifu 2013-08-28T10:44:00

Very well made! Loved the roguelike-ish lighting :) The mood was pretty good, even if the graphics were not "dark and gritty" like so many horror games (like ours XD). I loved uncovering the story by stumbling on ! marks and items. But the map is so big... Or feels like it because you do not see much at a time. I was startled several time by turning around and seeing Emily right behind me, good job on that. Audio would have been a huge plus, but for 48h, including the great intro/game over screens, you did amazing (and I have not won yet, even...)

Fragment by lesterpig 2013-09-12T08:44:00

Very nice game and concept. And very challenging, and very fun. The graphics are good and the universes interesting.

Getting the hang of the switch between words (even with the music) was tricky but not impossible, but more visual hints would still be great.

Still, very good work :)
(Meri from GSM Productions)

Lab of Broken Time by Kaslai 2013-08-28T12:02:00

Excellent variety of time related mechanics, you should really expand on it!
And as a Dr Pepper chugging game dev, I approve of your description :D

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

The Tower by Chaoseed 2014-12-09T11:56:00

A nice game. A shame it's easy to only read the possibilities without actually reading the poem, just to deblock the different possibilities. I like it to look like an actual map with different levels. However, even if the visual is nice I find it a bit simple.

P.Rick Airious by asobi tech 2014-12-09T13:50:00

Very challenging (never made it past level 30), but super fun gameplay! I loved how all the elements kinda did not "make sense" thematically, but what the hell, you do not care because all you are focused on getting that tricky jump to work. Honestly much more fun than I anticipated it to be from the screenshots, or the title screen. Good job!

Hard Winter by Taldius 2014-12-09T13:36:00

Absolutely loved how your worked the theme into your game! This was not only innovative, but I found it very elegant as well. The game is indeed on the easy side when you have more than a couple turrets, but all in all this is really working! And the music was great, altough the SFX could have used a bit more work I think. But well done, had a lot of fun playing it :)

Skyfarms by GagaPete 2014-12-09T11:50:00

I join the other comments about the scope missing and the difficulty.

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-09T10:38:00

(Bastien here)
@RonnyEGT: Thanks! :D

@aeveis: Yes, killing the robot was envisioned at some point, but you know how jam go... ^^ And the pathfinding is supposed to make you avoid the robot, but sometimes it does make you run into it. Thanks for the kind words though!

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-09T12:51:00

(Bastien again)
@all: Thanks for the kind words! The fact that a random room drops after each rotation is a bit confusing, that is true. And no, neither you nor the robot can be pushed off the ship in that way. We had planned to let you drop the robot to get some respite before a new one would come in, but no time to do that...

And an indication of the column that is about to be dropped would indeed be good, but again, lack of time :( Thanks again for playing it, though! :)

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-09T14:11:00

(Bastien once again)
@all: Thanks once again for the feedback :D

@Taldius: That board game was actually our starting point when discussing what we wanted to go with ;)

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-09T18:15:00

(Christel this time around)

@asobitech Thanks! We'll try to make the commands more clear ;)

@5you really? XD Now that's a coincidence! We'll have to check out yours as well!

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-11T18:30:00

(Christel again)

@all: Thank you <3

@vidarn: We've got some ideas to get this more interesting :)

@Teesquared: You have to keep trying! :D The first time around it's not that easy but when you get into it, it's possible to have quite a high score! Bastien is the holder of the title right now with 106 points ;)

A Maze in Space by GSM Productions 2014-12-13T09:12:00

(Bastien's back)

@all : Thanks! But yes, it lacks a bit of strategy, and the difficulty is not really high, and the game is kinda easily exploitable :) Now it's fun for a game or two at most. But thanks for the kind words and taking the time to play!

Tiny Adventure by FrankieSmileShow 2014-12-12T12:19:00

This was absolutely amazing! I loved the concept, and altough it would probably need some refining if you wished to properly release it, it had style to spare, and the game felt very polished, even if a bit on the hard side! Super well done though!

Chance Encounter by allurious 2014-12-09T08:51:00

(Grungi here :p) Had a lot of fun just using that lever, so so good. I love the idea behind the game, good choice for the theme. It is just too bad that when you complete the quest, you do not get another one via the objective slot machine at the top. Good job though!

Match Cube by lemmily 2014-12-09T12:30:00

Funny, even though the bugs make it really hard to play! Would win point if some music was integrated, too ;)

Sprotzel by Waterman7 2014-12-09T12:05:00

I tried the web version and nothing happened when I press Space? :( I have a really hard time understanding the game. You talk about blobs of colors but it's impossible to know how many are left?
Pretty designs though but...

Tiny BasketBall Game by Kirito 2014-12-09T18:31:00

Fun, but hard to get the ball up once it's on the ground. I had to start again to be able to play. But then I managed to get some points, so... :)
The sounds are bit aggressive to the hear, after a while, though.

Room Nr.6 by PriorBlue 2014-12-09T09:07:00

Very well done! When the gameplay clicks at the beginning of the game, it makes for a very good 'wow' moment. The game itself is a very good challenge for your spatial visualisation skills too :) The only thing I would have liked is, apart from some sound, a little more "tightness" and responsivity in the protagonist's controls. But other than that, excellent execution of the theme!

Screen Savers by VikingWarriors 2014-12-09T14:42:00

The controls were quite fiddly and a bit frustrating, but I loved the concept behind the game, and I did push until I got to the end, chuckling a couple times along the way :)
Congratulations for finishing and good luck in the voting!

No Rest When it's Over by ItyBity8Bit 2014-12-15T21:19:00

Loved the mood of the game, but you could just power through research and find the answer, even with most other people not being there anymore. Would have liked to see if there was something else to do. Overall a nice experience though!

Rringo by psydack 2014-12-15T21:23:00

Great mood and looks, and neat idea, but it was not super clear how I could find the apple, so I kinda killed indiscriminately until I somehow won. That title screen is A+ though!

A Fine White Line by Taunia Sabanski 2014-12-09T09:25:00

This was so intense :D The art style was super cool, and apart from that "duplicate item" bug (which did not prevent me to win the game on my second try), it ran very well. Hard to imagine it is the work of someone learning Unity from scratch. Kudos for that! The sound design in this is also stellar, as the timer runs out the whole escalation of police noises made the whole thing super tense. Really a superb entry, I think you could really, really take this further!

The Eternal Bee by palmar 2014-12-15T21:11:00

Really love the atmosphere of it. Even though really simple gameplay-wise, it fit the theme and the topic just too well. Nicely done!

Psychologist Simultor 2015 by Moee 2014-12-11T08:21:00

That was pretty clever and funny :D I love how the instructions only speak about the patient, but immediately when you get into the game you see what it is really about. Really good idea!

CSplatterX by akaPhil 2014-12-12T12:11:00

Some good music choices, but overall, if the idea is interesting, the execution was lacking. Be it in terms of presentation (no sfx, very little animations, bland arena, ...) or deeper gameplay. I kept at it for a while to see what other physics effects there would be, but soon even 20 seconds seemed like too long a time to wait. But think about taking this idea further, you could do pretty interesting things with the core concept I feel.

Tiny Miner by Maxw3ll 2014-12-09T09:42:00

Very funny :) Altough, I got a crash (some internal error) after buying a cow an walking a few steps. The idea is simple, but well executed, and I loved the tone of the dialogs. Very good, will try again later to complete it :)

FEMA Break by Selzier 2014-12-12T12:05:00

Well done for a compo game! The controls were a bit finnicky, and I did not try "space" for a while because I was clicking on things, but once I got that figured out it was fun to solve the puzzle.

SPIN-2 by hypnoticbytes 2014-12-09T12:38:00

Really hard for me, and the visual effects adding and adding are really too much I think. They make it all to psychedelic to be played and hard to concentrate :(
I like the idea though!

Soul Sleep by Technomancer Game Studio 2014-12-09T12:24:00

Fun, but really, really hard to play when you don't havez a qwerty like us poor French-speakers. It would be great to be able to use either arrows or qsdw

Ghoul Rush by ChaosCult 2014-12-09T18:39:00

Very funny! I liked the "braaains" they say all the time!

Castle of no escape by BSOD 2014-12-11T08:13:00

Really loved the idea, even though it was very, very hard. Almost impossible to clear out a floor, really. And had I not read the description, the "stats are health" would not have been super obvious (plus they make battles increasingly harder). But I think that is an idea worth exploring further. Good job!

rogodo by tomo 2014-12-12T11:58:00

The game is simple but enjoyable. Feels rather solid, and the audio is quite good. Well done!

PaintBoxWars by Mirakill 2014-12-11T07:38:00

I loved the overall mood of this, even though as a game it does not "play" very well, since the cubes just make it very difficult to navigate around the game world. And altough it is a bit too psychedelic to play for an extended period of time, I loved where you went with this!

She's watching you... by HUMANICS 2014-12-09T14:31:00

Very eerie! Props to you for using a custom graphics engine. While it made for some rough edges, I think you managed to convey the mood of your game really well! Gives off an old-school survival horror vibe, while being a twist on the classical 'fixed point of view'. I did end up being a tad disappointed by the actual ending, bug mad props nonetheless!
