Sooooooo good. The controls are absolutely perfect. I got 93, but I'm definitely coming back for me when I don't have work in the morning...

Sooooooo good. The controls are absolutely perfect. I got 93, but I'm definitely coming back for me when I don't have work in the morning...
I didn't think the controls were overly complex - I got to grips with them pretty much straight away. Also, I assumed the whole "falling out of the level" thing was a feature meaning the destruction had caught up with you.. maybe I'm wrong!
Anyway I thought it was pretty awesome and once you get a high speed going its pretty intense!
Beautifully polished game, but I'd definitely need some simpler levels to start with!
Awesome job! Loved the music and the style! Nice puzzles too...
Loads of fun... music was superb!
Needs a restart button, pretty badly... but pretty good fun nonetheless! I quite liked the graphics, they reminded me of playing games in Windows 95 when I was a kid (sorta like capture the flag: http://www.carrsoft.com/ctf/capture_the_flag_game.html).
Aaaarrrgh... that S-shaped room (in the screenshot) is a killer. Couldn't get past it...Good fun though!
I also went with "Escape Velocity" as the name ... so I had to come scope out the competition ;)
Good fun! I completed it. I'm awesome.
Really really enjoyed this. I had to stifle quite a bit of swearing while playing this at work! Good difficulty level for me
Nice! Cool variation on The Oregon Trail... I particularly enjoyed catching zombie aids (twice... xD).
It does need some control during the game to spice it up. Also, its incredible hard to judge the amounts to take if you don't find out how close you got on your last attempt. I never made it to the base sadly... :(
Hahaha... I enjoyed the crowds measured, rational reactions.
The infini-jump could be a pretty innovative feature, if there were some obstacles above, to make it not seem like cheating. Liked the graphics (there's something strangely enjoyable about playing a tiny character who can jump around like a flea)
Really, really cool. Tricky as hell to control though!
Me likey! Made me want to smash up my keyboard a little bit though :) - couldn't get up to escape velocity (is it possible??)
Wow, love the landscape the game looks awesome! I kept getting stuck around the corners when trying to go uphill, but otherwise very cool.
Also, looks like great minds think (slightly) alike:

;)
Really cool entry, closer to what I originally had in mind than my own entry! :)
Really nice, innovative little puzzle game. If you fleshed this out a little more and added rotation you could have something really simple but brilliant.
Really cool! I liked the music too. At first I didn't realize that the sunlight affected growth (in fact I just completely did not see the instructions down the bottom at the start, but maybe I'm just blind). I'm glad I went back after reading these comments, the people building up their houses was really cool.
The game was cool, however I'm getting a virus warning for this in the exe: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2000-121911-5753-99
It appeared after a minute or so of playing it which was odd. In case you are wondering this is the only game from the competition that I've downloaded.
Loved it! The different layers do an awesome job of escalating the tension as they get near.
This is AMAZING. I love the title music, the graphics, the game, everything! I didn't even have to look at any instructions to figure out how to play (I've never actually heard of shogi until now). Unbelievably good entry!
Got stuck trying to work out how to get a coffee for Matt. Its a cool concept but I think it needs a bit more hinting towards what you need to be doing.
Also, I couldn't see any reason why registration was necessary.
Brilliant! Puts my entry to shame!
Outstanding
I liked the style, and the tree growth was really, really cool. Makes me want to try making some similar organic growth in Unity. Adding some sound effects and giving visual feedback when you take damage would go a long way.
Boom!
@jrasmussen24 That's an interesting idea, I hadn't thought of using hotkeys. I'm planning to scrap the buttons in the post-compo version and have the construction integrated into the game world somehow, but hotkeys could definitely be handy.
@kroltan If there was one more feature I could have added before the time limit, it would have been a wider catchment area for the mouse, I agree! :) The other layers will definitely be involved in the future (with the ability to build underground)
Thanks for playing!
Thanks guys, I'm planning do re-do the gameplay in a post-compo version to focus less on swinging the mouse around madly collecting resources, and more on building and upgrading bits :)
@Toast - I really like that idea, I might use it to let the player reveal other hidden resources underground!
Really really cool. The intro comic strip made me laugh, and the game overall was really fun to play. Good music too!
Sorry, nothing but a black screen for me... (That said, I managed to blow up 20 planets in five seconds, so I'm pretty sure I'm so awesome at this game I don't even need graphics!)
Cool concept, and I the youtube frame is brilliant. Excellent music too - I stopped shooting halfway so I could just listen to it :)
So much fun to play with! I couldn't work out how to get more stardust though?
I love this, brilliantly innovative. It's crying out for some sound effects/music and an on-screen indication of how you rotate pieces (for impatient people like me that don't read instructions :) )
A nice little sim! The ant's pathfinding seemed to work really, really well. Needs a bit more complexity, but great work in the time!
Short and sweet! :D
Amazeballs!
Dooooh - posted this in a rush! Hitting Enter restarts!!
Awesome game! Took me a little while to work out what I was supposed to be doing at first, but once I did it was loads of fun! A nice, polished entry :)
The game looks great, and the explosions effects are awesome. I don't think its really fair to use a ripped sigur ros track as your music, but it does give the game a nice feel, so I ranked you high on mood instead of audio.
If you optimized the physics code, and had your own music and sound effects this game would probably be all 5*'s from me!
Horrific and brilliant entry! Even better than your last. I always have time for a bit of Shodan, but this is far, far darker stuff than system shock. It even had some great prometheus surgery-scene vibes. My only criticism (and I feel like a huge pedant considering the quality of the writing), is that there's a typo in aerosol!
Amazingly good fun! I have literally no criticisms!
SUPER SPEED!!! :)
Music and sounds were great, probably would have preferred keyboard controls. But the game was a blast!
Pretty cool! I couldn't work out how the hide action worked, do you need to do it when you're in front of certain areas? I liked how the music sped up towards the end
Man, I'm sorry... I tried and tried, but I just couldn't work out how to kill anything! I liked the villager characters and the daft comments that pop up over their heads though.
Very atmospheric, and really cool visual style! Incredibly trippy when the music starts playing backwards! Great job!
Pretty cool, especially when I came back to this page and noticed that there was an upgrades button in the game (no idea how I missed that the first time).
Managed to pummel a few heroes with upgraded spike traps.
Would be great to have feedback on how long your spike your traps are going to last, and how much the upgrades and traps are going to cost. Also the attacks might be better broken up into waves so you have more of a sense of achievement for holding them off.
I liked the way they hurled themselves at high speed around the level, scrabbling towards your hoard! :)
Thanks for the comments everyone! I'll hopefully be posting an update later this evening to fix the graphic glitches and to make sure the swordsman units (wearing brown) have the right idle animation (they're currently carrying a spear)
Its a shame there's not a bit more to it, as the presentation and sound are very good indeed. Visually it reminded me of a brighter version of Cactus' old game "Mondo medicals".
I gave the Android version a try on Galaxy S3, worked great (although the UI is pretty tiny, I had the same problem with my game on that phone) The crop circle drawing is great, I wish the android controls were a bit tighter so that I could actually draw stuff! Music was great too :)
very nicely executed!
Welp, there certainly was some nice lightmapping :)
Lots of fun, love some of the death animations!
Very impressive, the visual style and building models are really nice, and the concept is great. I was also really impressed with the pathfinding, the character seems to have no problems navigating those winding staircases.
The player needs to get a good idea where their character is before the timer starts I think, but overall a great job.
Pretty good fun! I thought the platforming might be easier with a narrower FOV, its currently quite hard to work out your exact position. You could even give some lee-way by allowing jumps for a short period after the player has technically moved off of a platform. It sounds like cheating, but will feel fairer.
From a level design perspective it would be really cool to allow high-risk shortcut dives between the different levels. And having hard-to-reach powerups is more fun when they don't interrupt the flow of each level - (so less backtracking to get them and more tricky platforming).
Great work!
Nice clean art style, and I thought the match-two gameplay was pretty innovative. I lost a couple of times because I couldn't see which doll I was walking towards until it was too late, and I had an incorrect match. The fog of war and lighting effects are nice and add a lot. Good job!
Nice... its a shame the theme of this contest gets in the way of actually enjoying the game!
The controls probably need to be a bit more forgiving for mouse input than they would be for touchscreen. Could be a lot of fun with a longer play time, more objects to cut, combo multipliers etc.
Nicely done
Bah, wish I had someone here to play this with... liked the music and the amusing characters.
Technically I think this kinda stuff needs to go in a post-compo version though:
* Changed background music.
* Added sound effects to title screen.
* Removed placeholder platform sprites.
I really like the art style and music, but I wasn't really able to discover any recipes apart from the basic harvesting actions. Some instructions would be really helpful for working out things like how many ingredients are needed in a recipe, maybe with one or two examples. Couldn't work out what the building ingredient represented, and how it needed to be used.
Just needs some instructions and it could be fun! :)
Nice little shmup! Nice work getting some varied boss patterns in there and the new ship added some replay value (Although I wasn't sure exactly what the difference was, faster bullets?)
Very very cool, and gross, and innovative, and gross! Awesome job! :D
lol.... I have no idea what just happened, but it made me laugh!
The core gameplay, but probably needs a little bit more complexity as time goes on, so the player doesn't get bored. It'd probably be better if the upgrades changed how the game played, rather than just adjusting the stats slightly. But good job on getting a html5 game working on mobiles, I played on ipad, and it worked very well - although tiny! :)
Wowsers trousers, this is outstanding! I'm confused though, is the music by one of your team, or not?
Nice work, seemed to work well on ipad, which is very cool.
Probably would be more fun without the theme, so that you can have longer battles against the UFO with more than one shot.
eeeehhh... the driving wasn't supposed to be too easy, but maybe I went to far the other way :)
I'd like for the steering to straighten out when your not hitting the keys, but that'll probably need to be a post-compo feature... Thanks for playing! :)
Worked really, really well on ipad. A pretty innovative puzzle game! And taught me Polish notation, which is pretty awesome. Would definitely play if it was on the App Store, good job! :)
Oooooh.... This is almost perfectly playable on ipad! Any chance of patching in the ability to click around the cannon to move it? :)
I still managed to play for a fair while, getting lucky with rebounds! lol
Nice implementation of the theme! The gameplay needs a bit more complexity, I never really had to make an hard decisions about who to send to bed, I just sent whoever was most tired. I think to make this work, each dwarf needs to have their own unique way of interacting with the mining ( maybe one prevents cave-ins, one boosts everyone else's productivity, one moves ore out to a stockpile, etc... Also might be good to have random events that deplete and refill the dwarves energy bars, to make it less predictable.
I enjoyed the drawings though, who is the guy with a tree in front of his head?? :D
Oh I almost forgot, I played this on ipad and it worked great, good job!
I like the art and music, and the controls felt pretty good. But I wasn't at all clear on whether I was supposed to be ramming the boats from below or jumping on top of them, or how to use the shield.
Also I couldn't tell how the resources in the top right, the icons you collect, and the prices in the shop related...
pretty cool! Took me a minute to realise that the popups were separate processes and that I should allow windows to fire them up, but that just added to the hacking aesthetic :)
Couldn't get past the red floor (if there was a way past).
Good fun!
Nice artwork, I really like the look of the huge red spider things dragging your ships down. Would have liked a health bar or something for the cities, its not obvious whether you're dealing any damage to them. Weapon upgrades would be great too, the player weapon seems pretty puny! A solid entry!
walk without rhythm, and we won't attract the worm...
NOMNOMNOM
I really like this, the tunnel crawling works really well (I even had to have a look at your source to work out how on earth you'd done it). And emerging out onto the surface is an awesome experience. Would be great if there were other AI ants that followed you, and you could set up routes.
MOAR LEVELS :)
Really nice presentation and sound though
Nice graphics and sound, though growth animations would be awesome. The main challenge at the moment seems to be not avoiding spending too much to be able to continue growing crops, which I'm not 100% convinced is all that fun. Maybe needs a longer chain of production where you need to carefully balance supplies along the way?
Awesome work! I won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
This is great, the way you put together the music as the difficulty increases is really clever. I think I'd prefer it if without the slowdown when you're carrying 5 mushrooms. It might be better with tile-based movement, but I'm not sure.
Overall, pretty great!
Not bad! I'm not sure there's any need for the player to take damage from the monsters, the cities are the only health bar you really need. By the end I was just defending a single city, spamming the fire button into the center, with no chance of losing, so it needs some sort of mechanic to avoid things getting into that dead end.
I thought the music wasn't too bad once in the game! Good work :)
Nice! Shame there's no audio, some music would really lift this up. The ballon physics and art (as other people have pointed out) are great, it almost seems a shame to include them in a game with so little interactivity, but I think what you were trying to get across worked. Good job!
Awww.... no turret!? :_(
Would be great to see some more work done on this, its a cool concept.
Woooo! $2096, I am an oil prospecting badman.
Took me about 3 goes to get the hang of the controls on keyboard without catching myself dangling over a ramp.
Overall, pretty awesome. Splitscreen multiplayer?
Hmmm... angelk's comments confuse me, I thought I wasn't earning any points until I started holding the mouse down?! :D
There were a few other confusing things: pressing the pause button to start the game took me quite a while to figure out, it wasn't really clear to me whether the shift button was useful as it didn't really seem to help push your score up in terms of targeting enemies, and I never felt that the punishment for getting hit by enemies was harsh enough to warrant using the teleport.
Art and sound both really, really nice though. The electronic guitar arpeggios were giving me some lo-fi daft punk vibes :)
Arrrghhh.... died at ~6000 meters... Would say that the platforming was kind of stiff and awkward, but it just made the super jump all the more awesome. Moar cubes!
Awwww maaan... this looks lovely, but couldn't work out what I was supposed to do... at some point I accrued 250 points for doing something... I think :)
Hope to see this turned into something cool in the future!
Holy crap. This is probably the most well-made ludum dare entry I've ever seen. Incredible amounts of polish and solid gameplay. Good job.
859s... I got pretty good at catching torpedoes towards the end :). I think all games should probably feature whales as anti-missile countermeasures from this point onwards.
The controls need a bit more physical presence, i.e. inertia and a perhaps particle effects to convey speed. Otherwise pretty good. A bit on the easy side, but its usually safer to make things easy in a game jam so that people actually play your game through :)
The recording feature is very cool, and I'm sure there's a game that could be made just out of that somehow, I like the gnome sprites and the fact that they all have their own jobs. Seems a bit lacking in goals at the minute though.
Had a nice atmosphere, and was fairly trippy. Could do with a bit more content and some puzzles though :)
Great game! I was really enjoying it, however both times I played I lost at a score of aroun 4300, because blocks were getting stuck at the top of the conveyor belt :(
I would definitely play more if I could, so great work!
Not bad, pathfinding works well. Can you gain new villagers? My game ended with one woodcutter, one stonecutter and three farmers, but no population growth.
Good work! :)
Very nice atmosphere, and a real sense of place. Really enjoyed it :)
Hi, great work! I got into quite a frustrating endgame, where neither I nor the police could quite get an edge over one another, Just marching around with huge 500 stacks. If you've managed to get the police down to one final station, that should probably be making things easier for you, so that you can have a decisive victory. If anything it seemed like they were spawning faster than ever. Good work though, I like the events system.
Hmm... couldn't seem to get into the game, it was stuck on the main menu, and only the fullscreen button was responding :( (Win10 Chrome)
Hell Yeah. That was awesome!
9/10, would be 10 if it played Ode to Joy on the victory screen.
Graphics are nice, but yeah it needs something to aim for. Couldn't buy the orichalcum generator for some reason.
I don't actually mind the fact that the meteor looks a bit different, at first I thought that the meteor would be a 3D model, which could have looked pretty interesting. Gravity effect is very cool, and jumping around the planet is really unique and fun. Good work!
Visually stunning, very well done. I couldn't get past the first level though, too hard for me.
Really liked this one. I got to 8, but then couldn't work out getting through the glass floor (or mirror?).
Great music and puzzle design.
Lovely graphics and music, I was having trouble picking up and putting down objects, so couldn't really play. The player would either drop them immediately, or get stuck with their arms in the air and no item.
Darn, I'm getting the same error as Khud0... I liked the music, opened it up outside of the game to give it a listen :)
Lovely graphics and music, lots of charm.
I'm impressed with what you tried to achieve with the gameplay, but its a bit muddled. As far as I could tell the only moneysink is mixing drinks, which give a random buff or nerf to your heroes. It's not a very compelling reason to send them out on missions.
Overall I think it maybe needs to be better at explaining how the different systems work, and to give you feedback on things like how mission difficulty, what hero's stats are when you're in a battle, how each step of the card matching game is resolved.
Hmmmm.... even with your tips I can't figure out how to progress from standing next to the lamp... there doesn't seem to be anything I can reach without getting caught...
Love the graphics and music. The text seemed to disappear really fast for me though, and sometimes I couldn't click again on an object to reread the description.
100... I killed 100 nightmares. Do I win?
Brilliantly weird. Pretty tough as well, I was never able to fully work out what I was doing. It maybe needs a slightly gentler difficulty curve to start.
Good solid fun. Well done.
Strangely soothing, painted most of the room yellow... and only trashed half the furniture trying to get the paint can out of the box.
Hell yeah, that was awesome. Chainsaw guns FTW.
Great work, very impressive for an LD entry!
Wowsers, the graphics are lovely!
The game is pretty tricky, mostly in hitting of specific hotspots to grab items and put them in place. I didn't mind guessing what the right equipment was, though I think I only managed to decode the dragonslayer, magic council and warrior outfits.
Still, very cool visually.
Graphics and music were nice... but it seemed odd not to be fighting against some AI... even if it was just picking random moves
Wow, that was great! A consistent head-f*ck the whole way through. I couldn't hear what you said at the beginning either though.
Very interesting...
Love the graphics and the midi theme tune is awesome. I have literally no idea what is going on though :D
Is there some cue I'm missing to know which panel has left-right control?
