I liked the music. The game was really short.

I liked the music. The game was really short.
Wow! Really feels you have a companion. Looks amazing, atmosphere is the best I have seen yet. I didn't really know what to do, I walked for a very log distance with the robot, but after half an hour ended the game, it seemed endless. Now I read that going right was the thing to do. Will try again, but already very enthiousiastic. No wonder you were mentioned on IndieGames.
Original game! Some points I found: getting the last bots to the finish can be a drag when you have a lot all over the place. Maybe if can end an level by keystroke (leave some behind)? And when zoomed out, things were not very clear.
There was audio, good graphics and a complete game including ending. I don't know why this has just one comment.
It could use something like damage and some things could be better like the jumping, but good start, just keep on making more games.
I like that you did a sandbox game. haven't seen much up until now. I do find it a bit hard to keep on caring about the creatures in the long run and an itch to nuke starts to creep in much to quickly. Maybe if you had more time they could have had more visual personalities.
Oh by the way: I liked the music. It a bit of an X-COM 2 atmosphere.
Great.
This is good. If I didn't have a load of other games to try, I would try to get even further. I like the music, how did you make it with a script, is it by algorhytm? Good puzzles too. Some more work on the controls (responsiveness) might help. And it wasn't always obvious at what height the platforms were.
This surely was tough! And all the old attempts keep on reminding you of your failure by constantly spewing blood.
The beginning of the game is the funniest I have seen.
Good game.
Looking at the screenshots, I have missed a lot by not being good enough. it looks very good. I also like that you made procedural levels, but some iterations were impossible for me.
I wish the music would be longer, it had a VERY catchy beginning. I couldn't get past the big cluster of enemies!
I thought this was unplayable until I realised you could click your building. This has got a lot! You got me rooting for the creationists. Funny sound effects. Very nice.
The graphics could be better.
Unfortunately I never got improved buildings because I won before I needed them. Good game!
couldn't run it, but my Java is up to date. Used Chrome on WinXP
I'm glad I tried a little harder, because it was more interesting than I first thought. It could use some more explaining. But that also made it more surprising. The music got a bit repetitive (all the more because I took so long to collect 5 diamonds), but sounded original with real instruments. There are some good ideas so curious what you will do another LD.
Boy, those are cute graphics! Like like like it! The evolution part looked very interesting, but the game was much too hard for me, to really see it in action. Overall I liked it. The windows link didn't work (maybe only 64 bits?) After seeing the youtube video I downloaded LOVE. Without the video I wouldn't have bothered.
Original take on the theme. I would have liked to hear a sound when I destroyed a bacterium. And it is a bit hard for me, but if balance is all you have to fix . .
I hope you will do an update, because it didn't work on my machine.
Wow that looks amazing. You guys really know how to make it look like the real thing. Good sound and music. The game is tight as well. Good menus, intuitive controls and steering. Except the dragging of DNA, that took me a moment to figure out.
I think I'll have to come back to this, when I have more time. It looks very interesting
Great game. Addictive and the music doesn't get irritating until very late into the game. maybe some soundeffects would be nice.
Like everyone else I loved the graphics. The story was unexpected in a very good way. Now I'm curious how it will continu, I want to see more.
it took some time to understand the logic, but then I understood. . . and realised I'm really no good a quick action games.
But it looks good and is original (although I don't see the theme in it).
It all fits, sounds and graphics style and theme. It looks funny and it IS funny.
There's just one thing: on my browser (Chrome on XP), not everything was visible. Only after seeing the screenshots I saw that there were THREE sequence positions. Maybe some autoscaling is possible or a notice telling people that its widescreen?
This one certainly rates on mood! It's certainly worth at least one play.
Plays like you're in a movie. Not knowing what will happen is a good thing here.
3 specialist I can tell. The music is good (nice retro sound), the graphics excellent and the game works very well. Excellent job. If you want to go further with this game, maybe some more difference in gameplay would be good.
Ooh this is one I REALLY want to see a follow up to. It has the potentional to be the next VVVVV. Good and original puzzles. The devolve is also clever. The different characters are nice. But the gameplay is a the moment somewhat stiff and clumsey (well, you only had 48 hours). Fx that, add some music and you'll be in IndieGamer in no time (maybe change the title).
It looked great, sound effects were funny! For me controlling two characters at the same time didn't work an it was buggy and could only be stopped from the taskmanager.
A lot to like here.
Darwin looks great. Nice touches in the border and a retro Arcade feel (including old fashioned no-save tough gameplay). I like the idea of Darwin as an posh superhero. Maybe could use some more tweaking in movement.
haha, it was too difficult for me (maybe it ran too fast?). Your first LD? Well done. Maybe to get more out of the 48 hours you could try to use a platform/framework that does a lot of basic stuff for you (like gamemaker), so you can work more on gameplay/graphicss/sound.
oops don't have java 7 yet.
ah, great opening picture. When playing I was surprised when I suddenly noticed I got smaller when moving. Made it a bit hard to evolve. Good effort though
Haha, short but maybe the funniest game I have played yet. The story with all the popular buzzwords combined, and 'of course you're naked' was terrific! Absurd!. Applause! Cheer! Next time make it longer!
Did you really make this with unity?
Looked good, and playing on a touchscreen was a change. I did feel uncomfortable bypassing the official app channel and it was buggy. Music was good as w ell. I am curious about corona now.
Good that you didn't give too much away in the instructions. This looked nice and was also an original idea.
Like others said: sound would have been nice to create an atmosphere.
The size of the screen and lettering were a good choice as well. Gave it a bit of character.
With some smoother gameplay, soundeffect and it could be a good puzzle game. You dont need enemies, because your playing against the clock.
I would love to see a finished game and try to save the dinosaurs (that must mean I have to score on mood, then).
Ha, this a fun one. This must be Japanese, is it not? It's different, it's definitely evolution, looks funny and good, and before you know it, vou've been playing for a half an hour. So, the gameplay is good as well, easy to understand, you can see what happens. Product X is a bit addictive to use. Luckily I do have sound.
I liked the midi music and the ability to design your own species.
I like minimalistic games (dwarf fortress!) and from what I read there is al lot of depth> I was too tired from all the other entries to really try it so I wont rate it. Maybe later.
Good use on the theme I think and I love the mouse and the plot-pictures. Music is good as well. I did find the controls a bit hard and I must agree with the 'blind jumps'. You have to guess what to do.
I'll try again on my desktop, because it looks intruiging, but it didn't run on my Windows7 laptop
I'll try again on my desktop, because it looks intruiging, but it didn't run on my Windows7 laptop. Started, but nothing happened (blank screen)
On up-to-date winXP32 desktop 3GB Dual core also not working. I've seen the video and it looks very good!
thanks, yes it sure needs more explanation. I'll do an update tomorrow.
Thank you for all the compliments!
The Ludum Dare scene is great.
I wish there was more to it as well. Amazing how time flies when you're having bugs :)
@samoojamies, great thanks for the tip. I was working on an autotracker (in Excel, yikes!) but didn't get results nearly as good as yours!
@Vigrid: yes I agree it is not very intuitive. I was totally blind to that, just trying to finish the game. I have an post-compo update where ESCAPE would give you a popup screen with more instructions.
But it still would hasn't a lot of gameplay. But as a first LD I'm pleased with it. Already made another game and if there is a miniLD I'll sure want to do that too.
And be better!
I think I don't understand everything. What can you do? Only buy upgrades and decide to speed up? I did like the look of it.
I like that you made procedural levels. The music is fitting because it is also procedural. it took me a try before i found out what was a good way to play this. The way the game started looked nice, maybe you could do more effects.?
I'm glad I tried this later on. Now I can try it. Works well. Weird idea to have two sort of identical parallel games with one control. Graphics are nice. Did you play the piano yourself? Funny, it's still running while I'm typing this and still responding every time I press space. Bit hard for me but otherwise impressive for 48 hours!
Oh. One thing though: it can't be ended a normal way. I have to press ctrl alt del!
This certainly had style. I didn't expect it, but it was good. Just much too much too short. Maybe with more practice a finished tale in the next LD?
Evolving levels. I haven't seen those yet. Very clever. And procedural levels that still can be completed, I'm impressed. The way you character moved was a bit weird but worked. Graphically it look finished. Very good. After about 10 levels, you sometimes feel the levels look too much the same, but also sometimes there is a surprise when a familiar corner has disappeared. The music was OK, but unlucky for you, I've played quite a few games by now and these procedural Python musics start to sound the same.
I feel you wanted to do a lot more. The diary is a good idea and suggested more interesting animals.
I felt the physics were OK. Darwin discovering species was a good idea. Some moveable enemies and some more challenging levels might be good?
What what? Gamemovement: just LMB? Ah and mouse. I was curious how it would work out. It makes the game controls very intuitive, but also very hard.
Bu I don't want to dwell on the negative because the game has a great mood, the text, the graphics, the sound and the music all work together to create a great mood. Even the game itself, where you have to work you way up out of the darkness. The darkness makes it a bit harder because you cant see how fast you move or your prey, so maybe a little bit of contrast would have helped (or maybe ruined the mood). You don't have much of a profile. Don't you make more games. judging from what you did here, you should (maybe get someone to check your English).
I don't get why there are so few comments.
oh dear, Java in a browser, always tricky. On Chrome and Internet Explorer it was unplayable for me because of graphical corruption.
It looks very slick and impressive for 48 hours! Too bad there is no audio. For me the controls could be better, but that is typical tweaking.
LOL. I like minimal animation and I dont mind little gameplay (just like my game :).
I also like that you enemy is partying with you in the end.
The size of the game (tiny on my large monitor) was also fitting to the game.
The graphics are so good looking and moody, I love them. The water drops are musical. Some good puzzles there as well. The controls were not so good, so after a while it got frustrating. But getting everything right in 48 hours is almost impossible (for me 72 hours was waaaay to short).
Very good gameplay, the levels were good, which I find impressive.
Ha, this is definitely a new take on the theme. Funny endings as well. The drawings look really good.
the posts that are advertising your game probably made your server melt. It must be really good then. I'll try again later.
It reminds me of some experiments I did years ago in Visual Basic. Iw was a load of rubbish, but something like this I had in mind. Really wonderful, visually and aurally.
I'm glad I tried again (after the server was unreachable)
Nice idea of the different strengths that can be combined. Could use some tweaking, but for 24 hours that is still impressive! I'm looking forward to future releases
Good start I think for a first game. You can certainly expand on this. See you on the next LD.
Sorry cant play it either. Based on the comments above it is because of the java version. Someone suggested reposting a recompiled version. I think that is allowed within the rules, so maybe? I am curious about your game
Oooh, I like this! Very original style and a gameplay I didn't expect. Nice physics. Not easy for me because I allways end up with a part on the 'front' that bounces the other parts away. Could be enhanced I think, to prolong gameplay. Very promising.
Looks good and you made me look at Blender again ('you can do THIS with blender?').
Could you make it faster though?
Loved it. Good for mobile.
Looks great. Sounds and plays a bit like a level of Spore. Very professionally done. Once I choose wrong and after an event I was left with the same kind of monsters. Unfortunately with this game mechanic it can never change. Maybe a little randomness?
Bu a very good game for this theme!
weird, psychedelic and unexpected. I liked it a lot.
played smooth, haven't seen a puzzle game yet in this competition and the idea of a survival of the fittest is clever. Sound and graphics excellent. The indicators on the side are very informative (in fact you canalmost play it without looking at the playing field), but I didn't notice them at first. I didn't find the collecting of items very useful, but thats just me. Very good game.
Not really an evolution theme (unless I don't get it), but pretty.
Very very good. Great design, sounds perfect. Maybe the best I've seen so far. I didn't look much at the weather though. it changed too fast so I didn't see a optimizing strategy.
if it wasn't ludum dare I would have been put off by the spammy download page. Maybe you could use Dropbox next time? Its free.
I was pleasantly surprised when moving up. Its an original take on evolution. Liked the graphics.
For me it could be more obvious when/how you lose your life. I found it hard as well, but thats not a bad thing.
aha machinae supremacy in the timelapse video. thumbs up!
Very good effort! It looks like you have a good base for the rest of the game. I do think it would be good if the scene transitions were faster.
I really loved the music! The game was a bit too hard for me to really see evolution in action; too much multitasking (steering in one direction and aiming in another).
haha, the link above makes it look like the game is meant for windows 1.0 I'll give it a try anyway ;)
haha, the link above makes it look like the game is meant for windows 1.0 I'll give it a try anyway ;)
I'm not good at tower defense, so didn't get beyond wave 4. I think you did a lot of work and its a nice game. But I was totally blown away by the music: The White Stripes could have made that. That is music with attitude!
Also liked the retro intro, but thats because I grew up with a Commodore 64.
Oh yeah: the autosave suggestion!
It looked good and I loved the music. I didn't have troubles with the game being sluggish. It performed well even on my laptop. Maybe for the next time a bit longer? I finished the game very quickly.
There's quite a lot going on. It is not always obvious, but that isn't a big problem. Maybe an ingame menu with your explanation above with examples of teh objects? All in all I find it impressive for 48 hours. The minimal music fits the game very well. I did notice the game did something with my screen. My whole screen dimmed (got a bit darker) and it took about a second to revert to normal after I exited the game.
I like the messages. Gives a bit of a dwarf fortress feeling. It makes you care more for the creatures. Good take on evolution. There isn't much interaction and therefore my mind did wander quit quiickly. I DO like the way your tiles look! If the rest of the graphics were in the same style it would have been great.
I thought for a minute you had the same idea as I had. There was quite more to it than I first thought.
I started the jam in Flash Cs4 as well, but coding is a nightmare. I would suggest using FlashDevelop, maybe with exported swc's. Nice use of the theme.
The game didn't look very good, but I think that if you make all the graphics in the same style it would already be a lot better. And you could expand on enemies, troops etc. Good for a first try I think.
Very interesting. I gathered som info from the comments. I don't know if I would have got it without those.
Original, but I don't see a winning or scoring condition, just an avoiding death condition. Give the game a goal and I think it will become much more fun. But a solid 5 starts for innovation.
DOH! It looks so interesting, but I don't have the time to really get into it. I'll come back to it.
It's a good start. It does need some winning and losing, but you were working on that? Maybe some more sound and effects when you collect a bonus?
A good shooter. I like the idea of the black sheep against the white sheep. Nice variation in weapons.
I found it very clever that you are yourself the cause of better enemies by erradicating the weaker. Though in the game this wasn't very obvious.
can't run it on WinXP
I like that you used Tiktaalik and I like your rocks. Well, more game the next LD, right?
Good effort for 48 hours and first game! The view was a bit confusing, you couldn't always see where you were going and where the enemies were.
A good game I think. Interesting and nice execution, because there really are all kinds of mutations. It needs some tweaking.
In the beginning I was only focussing on the numbers, but it looks like you can select for shape as well.
I like how it looks and sounds. Mayeb add some more variables later?
Ha, the description must be a nightmare for homophobic people. I couldn't figure out what to do, so everybody was making love but me. The graphics were Ok.
But don't be sorry, try again.
And try some more games from others, so you can also learn from them.
Smooth gameplay on my Android phone. Pixel look always works for me. I did have to force-quit the application. I wasn't always sure when dead pixels happened. I think this could easily be sold as an app.
that was an original game mechanic. Graohics I liked as well. I didn't make it to the end, it became to hard for me. It might be good if the ape achieved different things on each level.
It is an interesting idea. You eradicate the ones that don't have the traits you want. Maybe you can expand on it and have more variety in behavior, maybe going round corners, being able to defend or attack. But then you need a more sofisticated way to kill them. The spray gun you now have is not focused enough. And like other people said: it is quite easy.
It worked well, and played good. It looks a lot like SimCity though (but build in 48 hours, so impressive nonetheless).
Very nice , like it a lot. Maybe the screenshots give too much of the surprise away, but it still was great seeing the game evolve! I would have liked a save function, though. After a few tries, it becomes frustrating. But maybe thats also because I try a lot of games and at this point dont try as hard as I could.
Nice pixels, nice steering. I liked it.
For me there was a bug as well, when trying to go to the main menu. But I liked it. I tried to completely cover myself in pixels .. . and then I got an eye an had to start all over again :)
I'm sorry. Just installed Python, think I installed pygame corectly, but the games's not running. Maybe I'll try again after the compo, but with just a few hours 'till the deadline, I'll pass.
Wow, this looks amazing! Like it's ready to be published. Music is also very cool. The gameplay is simple but not bad. I can see there is some need for tweaking the balance; in the beginning the computer shot always everything away, but when I destroyed his military story, he never recovered and I went unimpeded to the end.
Incredible.
Ooh I like those graphics and the variety you get with such a simple concept. Mutating isn't always a good thing.
You know how to make cute and clear characters. The game could use more types to evolve in.
And maybe increase the speed a bit but decrease the number of males, so levels are quicker but are harder. Now sometimes for me the challenge was not to lose my patience :)
I was drawn by the bare-minimum screenshot, but there were a few of bugs (the programming kind). You were asked to select a cell type, but a non valid one would still be accepted? And a null pointer after selecting (probably because I had a non valid). Although I like a text based game this sort of game would benefit from a GUI and for a ludum dare it probably isn't that good of an idea to make it four player without AI.
But would like to see what you can do, and for me there is nothing wrong with an text based game!
grr all those enthiousiastic people and I cant play because the server doesnt work
Ha, I like that you have to do research for a game. I liked the graphics (if I looked beyond the graphical corruption, java and compatibility). It wasn't really clear for me what my influence on the others were and how the protesters were dangerous, but maybe I'm one of Award winners ;)
oh and I like that you used the Darwin Awards as inspiration.
Loved it. Look good and funny. And the best take on evolution (for me) I have seen so far.
Looked good, played good (for me keyboard controlled output, like '1' for rock would be preferrable). There is a winning strategy I think, and that is watching what B puts out and looking out for enemies coming close and putting out an defender at the last moment.
Nice.
I liked it. Yes your kittens looked great. Turn based I like as well, but it was so clear what had to happen and the influence of the changing stats.
5 star humor, 5 star music! What a great character and what great music. I may even be tempted to buy the soundtrack, but leave some DGP Space Lion quotes in there.
The game is glitchy and pretty unforgiving (died at the end of an level that took me a few minutes and I'm back where I started again) but what a game.
It is a good idea. Too bad you didn't have enough time to expand on it.
haha it sounds like the bass-voice of the music is saying meow meow. Cute and definitely evolution. Good one.
I'n not really a fan of these kind of games, but this looks very professionally done. Impressive!
TIP: After unzipping the folder 'gamedata' was recognized as an synchronized folder by Tortoise SVN. You may want to change that, otherwise other people could change your resources (it looked like I could if I wanted to).
after playing this game I wanted to dust of my old ant project and try to make something goodlooking like this. Inspirational. I did have I feeling for what the consequences of my actions were, but some more feedback would be nice. Stats or something of individual ants?
I like it a lot. Very original. I like that the birds have behaviors and different looks.
This was a very solid game. Easy to understand, built on a classic game but with a twist. And it was also good that the game got more challenging with other enemies when growing.
The graphics were also good. Just add a catchy soundtrack and you can put it online or as an app. people will play this.
Ha, but one thing: the Exit button in the Evolve menu. I pressed it because I thought I would exit the menu.
The graphics look great. It gives a good idea of zooming into cells. Good browser integration. For me it was a bit annoying to see so little of the playing field and the gameplay not so clear. Good effort.
Just played the compo version and understand what you mean. Well, trying the improved version is for after the voting :)
handrawn style is nice and in the menus as well. Music fits the style. Smooth gameplay made me play longer.
Hey this is nice. Graphics I like (waves), I like all the different kinds of enemies. The evolving idea is clever. It could use some more explanation, but that's with a lot of games (like mine ;)
haha, that was unexpected.I had fun playing this. Although I like the way it looks, less time on graphics and more on the game might have made it even moren enjoyable, with more varied gameplay.
Nice. Original artwork. The game has definite style and mood to it, not like any other entry I've seen so far. Music is OK as well. The buttons and menu don't really go with the other art. Would be nice if you could change that.
Nice.
It looks good, but the music was getting on my nerves very quickly. Maybe if trade it with more neutral soundeffects?
there is a very nice mood to it, for which the music is probably for a big part responsible. Played smoothly. It took a long time though, before an interesting evolution came along (other than growing) so for I while I thought it was repetitive.
Inspirational that you managed to do this in so little time. The small graphics were very nice, the monkeymusic was appropriate and gameplay kept me playing longer than I expected. Very good.
One of the winners for me, because it used the them so well. It took some time to figure out how to change the genes and I don't know yet what every gene does, but it was fun to watch and once I got it, I could make some useful mutations. The soundeffects were funny. This game I will look at the source, because I'm interested in using an physics engine with Flash as well (I think your using a physic engine).
That's an original take on the theme I haven't seen yet. Throwing the meteors was fun and looked very good, so I'm not missing a cool menu or awesome graphics. For me you can add some more gameplay, that you had to aim for something more than a highscore, but for 5 hours impressive.
maybe it only works on win64? on XP it said '. . .isnt a valid win32 application'
Good idea. A lot done for 9 hours! The graphics alone is a lot of work. The mechanics work good, it is quite easy. It does need some tweaking and for me the sound got annoying pretty fast, so maybe a feature to turn sound of might be good.
By the way: I use windows and most Java Applets on my Chrome browser have the flicker as well. But with your game it ended when the game started.
I really liked the look of it. The story is a bit like my game, but your way of telling it is so much better! The game mechanic is also comparabble but also better.
Unfortunately I was too bad at the game to get very far.
haha it almost seems, like cats are the theme of this Ludum Dare. A LOT of different mutations! Must be a lot of work. I liked how the cats looked. Found it a bit hard to do useful breeding; a lot of cats who don't deserve to die, but don't have any of the wanted characteristics.
That I don't want the cats to die shows that they are well made.
agree with wlad. Your game could use more attention, because I think its different. If you rate more, you get more ratings (or so I hope). The graphics were great, but some of the menus were flickering between two places. The music was very fitting and that the mouse pointer left a trail of things was a nice touch. A good way to make a weird point and click game more interesting.
Woo, that was some heavy bass drum in my headphones! certainly fits the pace of the game. Looks sleek too.
Funny and very well done. The graphics look simple, but they are more than simple squares. Gameplay was good and the levels original. Only downside I could find: If you get stuck at the same point the music gets a bit annoying makes the pause until you can try again, too long.
A good idea to do procedural graphics. And when not glitching it looks kind of cool. When you let it run it does get pretty big by itself and should come with an epileptic seizure warning ;) Not a bad idea, but it does need hazards first.
Ah, like other people wrote: too bad you didn't take longer to finish your game. I always like creatures that behave like they have a mind of their own.
For me the circular view doesn't work. It fits the them very well, but I do feel my field of view is too narrow.
Next time do more, its promising.
YEAH! Music like the old X-COM Terror from the deep. It fits the game and it doesn't get annoying after playing for an hour (the longest I have played an LD game so far). Old school graphics.
It feels very like a finished product (except maybe from the enemies getting stuck). For some maybe too easy, but for me just right. Dieing isn't punished too hard so you are still feeling you can progress. Evolution not just a story, but also part of the gameplay. Good gameplay, good level design. One of the winners for me.
I just have one wish: to actually see the people I have freed, and maybe more of an ending.
Wow wow wow. It's got a good story, well introduced, good voice acting. Funny sounds from all the factories and robots and the best music I've heard so far. Its got so much.
The only thing that might be better, is that it's not very clear what to do and what the consequences are. for instance :it wasn't always clear that the option you chose (like building a certain kind of building). And for a game that takes this long a save option might be welcome too (I clicked the x by accident, which was end of game). Something for a future release?
I especially liked the description of the lifeforms. I didn't see many of them, because control of the fish seemed very random to me.
I like my bullits like this :)
This was really funny and a great idea (I wish I would have thought of this).
NIce, but indeed a bit easy. If the levels changed you might get more variation.
A good game, looked good , sound was OK and it was an evolution theme. I didn't feel like my actions were very influental, though. But that's probably what being a creator feels like.
for some reason the graphics are wrong. It made it unplayable (but maybe it was because I used the cheat key at level 1, because I had NO idea what else I could do to escape).
Man, this game is messy! Its even worse than my desk! Sometimes the rules were not so clear. Some combinations I didn't expect. A lot of things were frustrating (your first spotted human bouncing out of reach, the music after 10 minutes) but you do keep on playing. Well I think I reached the end (it didn't fit so I dont know if anything else would come). Very original!
Lovely graphics (the character looks like a character out of the Tick comics). Good puzzles, sounds were good. The thinking was an interesting new game mechanic and was well thought of (thinking takes time), but was not really intuitive for me (wating for so long). Cool ending .
This one has it all.
Really good, I'm curious what you will do next.
Looks good. I wonder what you could have done with more time. For now it's just life I guess as we know it.
Very good looking game. The fox is cute. The music is also good. The abilities you get are surprising as well. I'm in awe.
I found the idea good. It was the game was a bit hard. It took some effort to get to the first evolution stage and I probably made the wrong choice and got butchered in the second round. Because it is hard you don't get to play with the evolution mechanism a lot, and that was a good mechanism.
For me the graphics were OK, the music was very experimental, but at least you had music (I didn't)!
I look forward to more stuff.
A great idea and the excecution makes it fun to play even without a goal. Are those aliens randomly generated? They look nice even when small. The only-a-few-pixels-small hero was great. But the real winner for me was the music.
I think the music with the looks and gameplay work great. It just needs some danger and score.
I'll play the updated version after the compo (so many to play).
The character looks great. You want him to evolve. The music is good and the rest of the game is also good looking. Playing the game was hard, the controls were not responding very well. Does it work better on a mobile device? It looks like a game you control by shaking your mobile.
Haha, very funny and very original as well. Sounds were perfect. Sometimes it was like herding cats.
It was a bit short. For me you could expand this.
A good start, but the compo version was indeed a bit short.
At the jame version I found out what the evolution bit was.
This works a lot better on an android. And its very well suited for phone or tablet because of the simple game mechanics. I think you used your time well.
oh no, I'm very evil!
Haha, what a weird game that was.
About Linux/IOS: you are allowed to port to a different platform after the 48 hours.
haha, German hockey players "AUA".
Funny one. Like it when it ends in a draw.
You should continue with this.
A boardgame on the computer. Looks good, and the gameplay is very intuitive.
It could maybe use an icon for instructions (and of course online multiplayer sound etc.)
Good game, but maybe too ambitious for 48 hours and you need 4 people to play, which I don't think many LD people will do when trying games.
Very good effort though!
The opening picture looked great on my phone and I like the graphics and music. But it didnt work very well on my galaxy note.slow , no bullits to see Nd wben I died the application quit. i do like that you made an android game, though
Haven't seen this take on the theme, very good!
I was the villain, but in the end didn't like it at all.
Graphics looked perfect for the game as well.
that was suprising
very quickly you go looking for people in blind alleys, stalking them and if someone sees youm you try to silence them
a quick as you can.
So you turn into a real jack the ripper. Great game mechanic. The graphics were simple but good.
It could use some more sounds, like people screaming, shouting, cops yelling.
And crime really doesn't pay: what a bunch of poor people!
what 'no decent art'? It's just minimal and the expressions are excellent!
I absolutely loved it and it goes so well with the theme.
I understand the point about 'bla' but I'm not sure if real language would be better. Maybe icons or fake letters would be good?
I like the bow, looks really good. Music was nice, in a next version you might make a different music if you choose evil?
Whoa, how do you program for the gameboy, in assembly? Looks nice (although very very small on my monitor).
Ah, I looked at your post, you did it in C.
Still good.
The lumberjack looks fantastic! Expressions in 3D aren't always as good as in 2D but here it is.
The tartan in the beginning was great as well. As a game I'm impressed what you did in little time, but I'm not coordinated enough to get beyond the second level. It was an interesting game mechanic.
Just a bit of sound would have been nice.
I didn't try it, because AVG thought it had a trojan virus.
This was fun and cute. And of course if you own a cat its very realistic.
This was fun to play! The graphics fit the game very well, and the physics were fun even though they were sometimes a bit weird.
A lot of different texts for the cat as well.
The silence while playing was weird though. I had the feeling as if my headphones were broken (must be the cat).
The mechanic with cat power was a good idea.
I will look at your source, because I was thinking of a game that would use a similar physics engine.
This was good. A lot of content. I like the way you show that I failed: "Look this is the Earth, it has not exploded". Hyper repetitive music fits the game. I like that you made a animation that shows the transference to another AI.
Some more music, a bit slicker graphics some more upgrades and I can imagine being a nice game to play on a mobile device.
Haha funny!
The music gets more frantic every level which I like. The goat looks seriously peeved.
There was some graphical corruption (a blinking yellow rectangle in the center). Somehow a lot of Java programs dont work properly with me (Java 6 up to date on a wondows XP32 bits).
I enjoyed this.
Wow, one of the best looking Java games I've seen. The midi tune I liked as well (after playing for a long time it can get a bit on your nerves). It has a memory of a festive christmas tune, but a evil take on it.
Good sprites and a lot of different guns.
My point of critiscism would be the movement/responsiveness of the elf. But that is typically the after 48hour tweaking.
I like the idea, but I didn't see what kind of things killed me and what didn't. It seemed kind of random.
Funny texts, though.
haha, funny. The first picture is the best, I think.
You should make the text more readable, because the text is funny too.
I like the music as well.
haha, man your controls were almost as hard as mine. It took me a while to get comfortable with them.
You created a funny character. It was fun to be an anti-eco-warrior. Finding ways to be an ass, sweet. Will we see more of Klause?
Alas, I didn't find the goat.
ah, all good and fair comments. I have a lot of options to tweak difficulty, but ran out of time to implement.
I didn't realise how hard the beginning was, because by the time I 'finished', I had played it A LOT. The controls were also not thought trough.
And people playing all those game don't try to get better at a game that isn't that thrilling.
Anyway, I finally had some time (between playing games) to do what I wanted to do with the game. Tomorrow I will do an update (especially for christmas!) so people can also see what game I intended to make.
And then do a postmortem.
The eye is great and a good choice of villain. Also agree that the heroes are good recognizable, but the game could use a goal, that there is hope for evil to destroy good, forever.
Something like that. You always get overwhelmed after a while.
Not that my game had an end, I didnt have enough time for that as well ;-)
Ha, I like the text when I lose.
Also love your progress indicator.
The music was good (although LOUD).
So maybe not the most original entry, but lots of fun!
sorry, same here
says it's not a valid 32 bit windows program
I would guess my C++ runtime would be up to date, so I'm guessing, 64 bit problem?
Great game. Easy to understand, and you keep on trying to beat the levels. The music was good too.
It's just a shame that I didn't get to see the poster in the game.
Wow impressive and fun. Scores good on mood as well. The music graphics and gameplay blend well.
A real Eric Cartman, love it.
haha, I liked the graphics. Music was good as well.
For some reason the goat reminded me of the goat of darwineatscake(http://www.darwineatscake.com).
The hard thing for me was doing the doublejump with direction with my left hand. I'm not used to doing so mouch coordinated stuff with my left hand, WASD is OK, but WASD AND space?
Good game, though!
ggreat graphics, the style and all the (fleshy, gory) particle effects. I also like that the remains of the slain heroes are left. It gets very bloody very soon.
Somehow it didn't feel right that there wasn't any sound. With this kind of polished graphics I had the feeling that my soundcard was broken :)
This was hard. I couldn't get him to jump.
I like the concept. The graphics were OK and sound is not really necessary for a text bases game.
When I read the instructions I thought 'will the program understand me?" and it didn't most of the time.
You are a good artist, the pictures looked great. In game they were a bit tiny.
Kicking the goat was fun.
I liked the idea although they were real witches, so I'm not evil then?
It did look like sometimes the witch would reignite without me being near, is that a bug?
This one I played for quite some time. This is a very playable game. At no moment did I realise that this was a game that was made in 48 hrs.
I wasnt't able to unlock the items 2 and 4 though.
Rooms overflowing with zombies. Cool!
This looked great, sounded great and being evil on the road was a great experience. . .
so a great game!
Well maybe more of a story than a game, but great nonetheless
For people who are no artists on their first game it looked pretty good. Nice intro pictures.
Good choice of music.
I also would have liked it if the collision would have been more precise, but that's something you do on your second Ludum :)
Monty Python is always a winner for me.
Plasticine graphics look nice and the music is good!
There is a way too be invincible by standing in the right place and just pressing space.
salty licorice? Are you by any chance Dutch ;)
haha, 'look at them', funny. I think this was a pretty unusual villain, which is good.
I didn't get to beat the game. I was a bit tired after playing som many games.
haha, this game was bad! Bad game!
I liked it, although I cannot understand why. You made a few scenes some sprites, you made music (more than one!) so all in all a commendable effort.
And it made me laugh.
So the message is: no matter what you do, you will die in the end? Very realistic :D
I liked it although it wasn't very 'gamey'. The way the guy swayed a bit, the semi 3D, the way he changed, looked cool.
And I did feel like the bad guy (a bit).
Craftstudio looks interesting, especially the feature of collaborating online on the same stuff.
For a first game I would say, very good! The Zombie looks great. The music made a good mood for this game.
The biggest trouble I had was with the beams. Its one of those things that can take a long time to get right.
And a little short of 25 levels ;)
oops, you've got to continue after The End . . anyway on the second try I really could play the villain.
I liked it. It was a shame that it was in the ' loud' environment of newgrounds with all the advertisement. It deserves a spot on its own.
I liked the graphics and the icon balloons fitted that really well. Sound effects were good, although I think the walking/jumping sounds were a bit less good.
The mood was also good.
A bit more instructions would be good as well. I got stuck very early but didn' t know if I shuold use an action button of some kind or if it was a bug. Did I talk to the woman by going up to her or should I have done something else as well?
whoa, the warning was not for nothing!
There's a lot of good work gone into this one.
The discussion about the music is an interesting one. I might have used music if creative commons music was allowed.
I dont'really know, drumsamples ok, but complete music not? Somthing like that?
I actually liked the graphics, although the character didn't look very evil with his smile. I think the fairies deserved it.
Your game has music which is more than I can say. A few more sound effect would have been nice.
The music was kind of loud thought, but at least you had the option to turn it off.
Good effort.
Ah, I couldn't beat Speedy Jim no matter how much I squinted and twirled my moustache!
That was fun. I've always had a weak spot for low-interactive games since Settlers II so, I like this.
Good game I think.
I played like an old school retro kind of game.
Funny looking villain.
It could use some more goats to distract me more from driving.
Something different this.
I like the balance of the thing and how the Island looks.
I did find it a bit confusing in the beginning: I didn't see the water I placed because it was behind the green. After that it went Ok.
The music I li9ked as well.
A 5 for humor and innovation. Great job for making this idea into an actual game!
Fun to do as well. There are some surprises as well.
Just add some sounds and I'm a happy man.
I didn't get it. Was I playing against myself?
Looks good though, and I like the weird sounds of your music.
Funny character you created. The scenario is pretty wacky.
Having quests was a good idea I think. I played for some time.
It could use some more sounds and music, but other than that: good game.
I like your graphics and a funny evil-combined-with-goats theme.
Good music, but not you own alas. I found it also unclear when people would see me or hit me. Some sound effects would have helped.
I like the way your owl looks, but the exe didnt work and trying to remember how to get the python source to work was a bit too much for now. Sorry.
Such a game is ideal for a Ludum. It's funny, fun to play and it doesn't take a lot of time.
The movement works well, the game fits the feeling you get.
Like it a lot.
Just some sounds and a drunken music would be nice.
Nice.
Unfortunately not finished so at some point there is not much left to do.
Maybe something for the next october challenge :)
oh dear, the windows version crashed in Assets.as line 145. But the zip only contained a swf so I guess the graphics sound weren't zipped with the game?
I like the graphics, sant looks good.
There are a few bug though, falling off-screen, dying when getting a package, etc but for a first game good (I wish my fist ever game was this good).
although the music had a bug (after boss battle I got two melodies at the same time) I liked it very much! Real retro style. What did you use for the music?
I also liked the diversity of bird villains.
That was a lot of fun to play.
The graphics were small but cute. The bad guy was very good!
Good game.
You might say that it was a bit easy, but during a Ludum you don't play most gamres for very long and now I have seen all content (in contrast to my game that was so difficult that most people didn't even get to see beavers or lumberjacks.
Too diifcult for me, but it looked great and the music was great and fitted the game.
Wow, pretty impressive. Original idea (well not totally original of course, but to make it into a game is very well done).
I think it is a bit weird that you can't use soundeffect for the compo, but can use samples.
I think you would have been allright. Or maybe you could have done the sound effects by yourself (I think its fun to do that).
Original game, and very nice style (the opening picture was great). Reminded me a bit of Day of the tentacle/Psychonauts.
Best thing about it, I think, are all those movie references, one of the best takes on the theme I have seen.
Good music, that doesn't get annoying after many repeats (thats hard).
Interacting with the things was a bot hard and not very intuitive. Some icons I didn't immediately recognize (but that was a pleasant surprise once I did).
Great one.
Thanks for the warning, I played it anyway. Enjoyed it as well, altough it was a bit disturbing.
I like the hand made graphics and the humor. the music was impressive but got on my nerves after a while (but that might have been intentional). Were that real instruments.
just curious, but what scripts did you have to use?
This game also scores good on mood.
Original game.
someone mentioned the Mario theme backwards? Sounds funny.
Too bad you dont have more time. The movement is good, the graphics are good , you have collision, so all the ingredients for a game are there.
There is also a consistent retro look and feel which is good.
I'm curious what you could do with more time
What a lovely looking game. I like that it has a icon-feel to it, although it makes it a bit hard to understand what is happening.
Music is very good and fits the game.
oh dear Java, so for me that means graphical corruption.
unplayable (I do have Java 1.6 but I have a lot of trouble with Java products for LD).
The dragon looks great! I like the hand drawn characters and somehow it works with the 3D.
Very original take on the theme and funny.
I think there are some bugs, sometimes I got hit but there was nothing near me?
haha, that was funny. I liked the spiked food. Got me by surprise!
I like the dimensions of your game, it was different.
I had an error as well:
main.lua:145 bad argument #1 to 'ipairs' (table expected, got string)
traceback
[C] in function 'ipairs'
main.lua.145 in function 'drawfinish'
main.lua.129 in function 'draw'
[C] in function xpcall
I didn't read anything beforehand and just started playing, and I found it almost immediately clear waht was happening and what the goal was. Very intiuitive I would say.
Looks good and very VERY original.
wow.
oooh, that is nice! Using text this way as part of the landscape creates a ver nice mood. The way it ends looks great.
I think that idea is a keeper!
haha, go Rudolph! Now I now why he has a red nose!
It's the second game (of the four I played) with a misleading start.
This theme doesn't bring out the best in people ;)
I had fun.
This had a real feeling of the old lcd game consoles. Very well done. I think this would play well on an actual machine.
I played for some time, but didn't find a winning or losing condition. It would help if there was more danger of losing.
But nice.
Niiice. All well executed, nice pixel graphics, good retro music. played well.
I just saw your LD22 entry. I like that one as well, very funny.
Very original that you can be the villain in two ways.
Of course the music and graphics are fantastic!
A very good retro feel, whith very good music.
Impressive to have done this in so little time.
Great great great! A lot of locations, puzzles, nice and varied music. Plays well, you just run around and try things and explore.
And the dialog is very very funny, and theres a lot of it.
Best so far for me.
Good graphics especially the scenery. Easy playing on my phone. I had to force-quit the app though. I played on a galaxy note.
But I certainly had fun.
This looks nice. The black-white thing works for me.
A lot of stuff going on and it also looks expandable (I mean could be expanded)
The game is pretty hard (for me) though, al lot of different buttons to push (hmm, just like my own game:)
Gorgeous looking game. I like point and click as well.
The music was very nice, but personally I didn't think it fitted the game. In game maybe soundeffects would have been better. But I'm nitpicking here.
The scenario reminded me of Fable 3. The style of the game is very clean and clear. I like it.
I found it quite hard. I didn't get to prepare for the drought, all my people died.
Some sound would have been nice.
All in all very impressive.
Very nice looking, funny and apropriate sound effects.
The inverted mouse was a nightmare for me though. Any time I did anything fast, old relfexes kicked in and I went the wrong way!
It should be a Jam entry . . .BUT it was very pretty, very good mood, good music. All of this reminded me of Myst.
Makes me curious of your game. Does it have puzzles?
This is an original gametype! And its fun as well.
Its a shame that when you have the right solution right away, you don't see the AI trying all these different tactics in vain. But I understand that just watching the AI for hours on end wouldn't be very fun.
Thats a scary monster. Very well done.
Also very original take on the theme.
I like it a lot.
Original modern take on space invaders. It could use some sound, that would make it more engaging.
It can be a hectic game, but sometimes if you get it right, you can shoot all the reindeer in one go!
I like how the aliens open their mouth when dropping bombs. More people had the same idea, but I didn't so I think its a good idea.
The background was not right though and after destroying the hero, nothing happened. A bug maybe
?
The game wanted to use the Samsung voice recognition in stead of the Google one, and didn't seem to work at all.
That was a shame altough now my girlfriend doesn't have to doubt my sanity anymore ('who are you talking to?').
haha, gotta agree about the audio, authentic but LOUD (and I played with headphones).
Just like other people said: it had the look and feel of a real retro game.
I didn't know how to beat up a cop right away, because you didn't mention all keys, you villain :)
any chance of a port to anything else? I don't want to install sliverlight on my let alone another program
So that's how you do it. Simple but it all fits.
This was a lot of fun to play and the graphic style was fun and coherent.
I also like the whistling villain building his evil lair.
On a 1024x768 resolution not all things were visible though.
Inspirational.
What did you use to make this?
Quite a lot of types of enemies, weapon upgrades, graphics and music.
A pretty solid game.
I do agree with the comment for using icons for upgrades. They looked like coins. But the text revealed what the upgrades did.
I've played your previous LD entry as well and I think you have improved a lot on the fun part.
The other parts are there as well: music, sound, humor.
I like it. I would like it even better if I could really swing the bat.
I put it on my tochecklaterlist
Ah, you also made that storybook entry. Loved that as well.
This one had a GREAT mood. It was just too short.
I also think the silence was good.
Nice way to remind me too! Now I have an award :)
I'm not sure how and why but this is something different.
The Baron von Tater is a good villain name, but speaks pretty good English.
And I don't think it was a gentlemans fight, it was pretty dirty!
Not only mini animal but also a minimal interaction game.
You could sit back and watch or interact if you like, but just a few actions.
Of course it was also beautiful, great matching music (that stays with you even after the game ends:)) funny, cute.
5 stars for me!
I think you played some more with the autotracker parameters. It sounds different from other autotrack tracks. Thank you!
Anyway about the game: it's a shame that this game has so little comments because I think its VERY VERY funny. With some easter eggs as well!
I would have liked some more animations and to see my toast land on the plate, but other than that great fun!
Nice minimal puzzler. You should make a proper game of it. It is pretty complete.
Some more music would be nice, because the music you have becomes a bit weary after playing for longer periods, I think.
Oooh, an minimal interaction management RTS kind of thingy. I like that.
It takes some getting used to, to be tactical in this, but I think it's a great idea to keep it so simple.
If you add some more levels/variety in it I can imagine that it would be fun to play on tablet or phone. A quick hectic game played by tapping on planets.
Good one.
(except for autotracker, but that's just me).
Oh yeah, I like the title.
There is no sound but also no need for sound. Very clear and original. For me also a 5/5 score.
But it crashes in Chrome (tried it several times).
I had to play it in Internet Explorer!
I used the recommended mouse :)
Nice bleepy music. I thought the story was funny.
I generally like the management games where you can't control everything so I liked this.
It could use some tweaking.
I agree with not really being a game, but I find it wonderful.
Not sure how to rate it, so I'll rate it as an experience, and its a nice one.
A great original departure from the gaming.
OOOH! another programming game, nice!
Although after a while it became a bit buggy (some graphical corruption and some elements where impossible to connect anymore) it was nice and addictive.
The music is a nice touch and the speeding up possibility is very good, because when you know you have the sollution, you don't want to wait.
An extra plus for the simplicity of the user interface and the ease of which you can understand this game (I also made a programming game, but the UI was terrible and it was NOT easy to understand).
I will tell my friends about this game.
VERY VERY good. The minimal 8 bit style really works. Graphically perfect.
And like FenrisWolf mentioned, very easy to understand with a simple and clear GUI (a big contrast with my game). Mouseover and click.
I played on easy which is a good way to see what the game is.
Good good good.
The only thing is; after doing some Ludum Dares I'm not to keen on Autotracker anymore. The melodies all start to sound the same.
Wow, 5/5 for mood definitely. It's impressive that you could do this in 48 hours. Especially since you have to go around (Stockholm?) to make all these pictures.
Unfortunately I got stuck at some point. I could see two houses but there was nothing I could find to click.
The biggest problem for me is, that the main challenge was to find what I could click. But for a 48 hour point and click adventure it's hard to make the adventure not too easy.
So well done!
Tutorial! That's a good idea. Unfortunately I had no time for that.
I also found some big bugs when winning or losing. I'll try to fix them as soon as possible.
All good comments (audio production interface, indeed!).
It would benefit from a simple Lego Mindstorms/Scratch type of interface. But I'm glad I could do THIS in 72 hours.
Maybe I'll try to do that kind of interface. Would be good practice. Also add 'save/load rules' 'change rules order' etc.
Truncated text? Probably because I didn't embed a font.
Blinking is unexpected. I don't have it, but maybe my computer is faster or maybe I have a more recent version of FlashPlayer. I used Flashpunk so the graphics engine wouldnt take a lot of time, but I didn't expect blinking.
The longer I look at the game the worse it gets. Not much progress with a better UI, so this sounds like I need to refactor first.
At first I thought this game didn't run on Chrome but did on IE. But now I understand, because IE was on my primary monitor.
Nice original take on a classic. Nice effects (for me those count as 'fancy')
I understand using Autotracker but I have heard too much of those melodies (the first LD I was enthousiastic about it).
Next time add some bleeps of your own?
Wow, 5 stars for graphics. That style is really nice and really wel done!
And nobody else did a minimal style like this I think.
The game worked well for me so I think you know HaxeFlixel well enough.
It looks simple, but playing it is not!
I love the music, very good for this type of game. It's very soothing when you are trying a level for the n-th time.
Slick graphics, smooth movement looks like a good game for mobile.
A really good looking Java game! I'm gonna check out those libraries (like libgdx, box2dlighting). Maybe my next game will be in Java (not that I think that with those ibraries my games wont be ugly, but I like Java bu don't know the right frameworks).
The game was a bit buggy and sometimes would hang (or the husband just couldn't say goodbye).
This looks inspired by real life. Makes it very original.
I would have played it more if it wasn't so buggy. Still high marks from me.
This has a nice retro feel to it.
It's pretty gripping, in the beginning I was a bit annoyed by the scrolling and that it wasn't always easy to see if a emitter was on my path (sometime I was circling an emitter),
BUT you get sucked in and try to get all the emitters and bomb all the enemies. it was FUN.
Lots of instructions, looks difficult. . BOOH! (look at my own game) . . Oh actually it looks pretty straight forward ;)
I hated those critters but liked how I could shoot behind me, but still run forward. Very convenient :)
I would have liked a bit of music in the background.
I'm not sure how it fits in with the theme though.
The way you used minimalism in the game with the conversations worked good I think. The quotes also great.
the game reminded me of The Lost Vikings (maybe because of the conversations).
The music gave me a rushed feeling so I was running down the corridors trying to smash all things as quickly as possible.
The graphics are neat and everythings works very smooth (except sometimes large furniture in a small corridor would be hard to pass and to hit it if you approached from above).
It was also a bit too big for me. So many rooms!
It was a good thing that you wrote about the random generator. It makes me appreciate more what you did.
How much do you need for a game? Just rectangles!
It took me a little bit of time to get used to the acceleration, but after that I swallowed the rest like a cookie monster.
Fun.
like people said above: nice simple gameplay. keeps you entertained.
You made you own Font? Looks good.
This might also be nice on mobile?
Most beautiful game I have seen so far! You wouldn't think the game was made in a mere 48 hours.
It reminds me of old platform adventures like Head over Heels.
Looks and moves very polished. There is the thing about the perspective of course. But maybe if you added some shadow it would already be clearer.
Haha, funny. I played it with CAPSLOCK on just to be sure.
Why it had to be lincoln, I have no idea, but it makes it all the better.
It had the old skool vibe to it, including the bleeps (also from me) and the difficulty.
Good one.
What is this, I'm just a bouncing ball? Wait , hold on I missed a few, go back, bit to the left YES!
This was pretty addictive. I didn't mind the music being repetetive, because your busy with the game.
My biggest criticism would be the smoothness of the animation. Maybe a bigger screen would help or moaybe if possible a higher frame rate. Sometimes it felt like I was scrolling an Excel sheet.
Well, I thought the music wasn't that bad.
I liked the game, I think you have something there you can build upon. Interesting game mechanic.
The biggest thing for me to adjust is the controls. They should be smoother for such a fast paced game.
But well done.
Hmm how should I rate this? Not much of a game maybe. But I did have fun, and the graphics were brilliant, the sound was just right, and great on the theme.
Ok then 5 stars it is!
AHa now I see. I should have read the comments first.
It is a good idea and the munch sound is good and the graphics are OK too, but I don't think it is very clear?
Just like the other people said: it isn't clear how you control it.
I think I have to be attached to a rail, but by pushing keys a lot I can get into areas without rails?
I think you can expand on this, but first make it a bit more clear?
ctrl-shift only works if you have several keyboards installed. I don't have that because I hit ctrl-shift by accident a lot.
It's a mystery without conclusion. The mood is perfect, the lighting and music do a lot.
It begs for more.
How does it fit into the theme?
I rate this very high. It's experimental en thereby very original.
I didn't expect the game to be like this at all, which was good. The surprise that I didn't control the movement was great.
I found the typing in your music funny and a great idea.
And I made it to the beach.
It is pretty difficult. Maybe ease people into it a bit more (after your exams)?
But I like it.
By the way: with Flash it is a good idea to make the game start with a mouseclick, because the game usually doesn't have the focus at the start so doesn't register key events.
Just as the theme ordered: minimal!
A good and very playable game design and well executed.
I like it.
This fits the theme very well, even dying is a minimal experience. The levels only have more lightspots and become harder, no change of scenery, no applause at the end of a level. This should rate high (if not highest) on Theme.
The downside is, that because it is SO minimal, it does not give me a sense of accomplishment so after trying a lot of times (I found the hints too difficult) I'm inclined to give up (imagine that, a civil servant who doesn't like unrewarding repetitive work).
But any more sensory rewards would lessen the minimal experience.
And I like the music.
Hey, don't feel bad about using the music. It was great and was indeed adding greatly to the vibe of the game!
I loved this!
What a great idea. I actually like this more than tetris, there is more strategy.
And the background story is funny and adds someting to the game.
I'm not sure if there would be a copyright issue with tetris, but I whink this would be a great game for tablet or phone. But then it would have to respond to touch (you move the layer where your finger is).
And then you could add maybe some more faces of the boss where he gets angries all the time.
A bit of a mixed bag for me.
I love the way it looked and sounded and the idea (and the potato), but the fact that you could only steer when on the ground and the mad bouncing made it a bit frustrating for me.
Still, I wish I could make something like this.
Ha this isn't what I expected. It's a sort of mininmalistic FTL.
Funny starting picture.
I like it. Seems like something you can add a lot too. If you do, make it with some animations or maybe it looks too much like FTL then).
Haha, have you been looking at Wikipedia? Being Dutch I know his name is actually Mondriaan.
Very good!
Good graphics and the music is good (I heard it end though, so looping would be better).
The movements look funny. Levelups make the game more interesting.
Maybe a bit too easy but for Ludum Dare that is a good thing (my game is too hard, so most people will not see most content).
I never had the need to refuel. I always died before I had to refuel.
Played well and looked good.
You missed the theme I think. You should have come up with a silly reason why it would be Miminalism (like I did).
Hmm, you might want to put a 'windows' next to the download so Mac and Linux users know they can't run this.
Another hint is, that most people don't like installer, so you should try to find out how to make it work without installer.
I have windows so I could play it. And it was a minimalistic game, alright. I like how the numbers on the enemies represent the strength (I think).
I didnt understand when I turned, was it random? Random could be alright, I had to move the right way so I could shoot at the enemies.
It is miminal, but a shooter without sound is a bit empty. I hope you find out why (if it's a bug you can repost it, maybe).
Anyway good effort.
Maybe you can add some more instructions, because I have no idea what to to do. There is for both men a little space to wander and I can see stuff on the ground, I can pick it up, but does it do something?
At the moment it feels like there is nothing to do but run around?
You guys gotta start rating or else you wont have enough votes!
That would be a shame because thsi game is pretty nice.
I like the Daft punk music and there are spawn points and evolving graphics. Nice controle mechanism,
For me there could have been some more variation, but its good.
I'm not sure if box2D would be much better. Wall jump isn't very real.
Anyway, I like the game and I think it is a nice take on the theme. The graphics are cute and the music has a nice old school pulse sound.
Good job!
A little story most people can see in its entirety, some different (d)evolving types of movement.
And the music matched the game (good thing that the levels weren't that hard because the music could get annoying I think).
I very minimalistic puzzler indeed. For me the controls would have been clearer if there was some movement of the pieces.
I didn't hear any music on any of the zips? The karate chop I heard, so the sound was working :)
Man, that control thingy in the beginning was a major hurdle for me! I like the idea that people can choose their own preferred keyset, but it was confusing for me at first (I'm not the one that reads first and plays later:)).
After that it was actually quite a bit of fun. It was a bit like a minimal Quake Arena.
Too bad you didn't have a place to host this, because most people would be able to play this online (it's Flash right?)
But I like this.
Good for you! For a first game OK.
It really is short and simple, but I like the beam (don't know what it's for).
I can't blame you for being ambitious (my idea was also too ambitious, I couldn't make it in 48 hours either).
It's says CLICK TO START, but for me it was PRESS ENTER TO START! so at first I thought the game didn't work.
Other than that it looked and played good.
Very polished looking graphics. Looks professional (which you probably are).
Are all those melodies free? (meaning: I could have had better music for my game but with less fuss ;-))
There was a bug with the sound, where I presume several sounds were repeating again and again after winning (it got VERY loud).
And I think that if you want to push this further you should do some syntax and grammar checking :)
PS: I think you had the idea of the game first and then tried to fit it into the theme. But maybe I think that because that's what I did ;-)
Clean simple graphics. I would try it if it were for windows as well.
At first I didn't know what to do, but there are cryptic clues about the poses.
I don't know Yoga, so I Googled some.
Funny pictures and certainly an original game.
I just checked if you did more Ludum Dares (I like weird games) but this is your first?
Thsi is some original gameplay! It is deceptively simple in its gameplay but has wquite some depth in gameplay. Strategy and planning in an easy package.
I saw thsi game in a video and reminded me of my game because it is about growing plants but I was pleasantly surprised with this game (this game plays very good I mean)
Great!
Haha, this is like a slow motion QWOP.
I loved QWOP, but got nowhere, here I get somehere although a LOT MORE SLOWLY.
I just would have like audio. Maybe for a future version?
LOved it.
I'm not sure if I got this. I could do stuff and some I couldn't but wasn't always sure why.
But I tried to keep everbody happy (and the haters separate) and fed and all things running and it work for some time.
Some more feedback would have been nice, but I like this gam with minimal animation :)
That's a big download for a Snakes/Pacman game :)
I like the music and the idea, but the game was too hard for me. At first just seeing, which object was me and after that controls and after figuring that out, the rest of the game ;)
Weird (but original) way of menu handling. It was not immediately obvious.
Good thing that you made a game, though!
Haha, this is something different. Funny idea and minimalistic in execution.
And it's not rubbish!I didn't even notice that the sounds were late because I had to watch the road.
I like the light and the tire tracks. Nice touches.
The anoying van was a bit weird, sometimes it was in front of you after you died then juped behind me.
Also you cannot really lose, only be slow. You might want to add a different winning/losing condition and maybe some more varied (but still minimal) environment.
Other than that I can see this as an app on a phone.
One of the best entries for me so far, just because so many things about it were right:
The jazzy music, the minimal but nice graphics, the originality,
All in all a great package.
I was sold by looking at the screenshot. And then I played the game and liked it even more. It was very pretty in its simplicity.
And a proper Villain as well 'how did you do that?'.
The only thing I would have liked was some music. It may have been harder but for a compo this is just right; you can finish it in a limited time.
I'm curious about the enhanced edition, but that will have to wait until after the compo.
A good idea, done in a very minimal style (which looks just fine) with nice music (is it random?).
Two things that might be improved (I think):
- the responsiveness: if you enter a green block you immediately move from the new position. A small delay would help also because of the other point:
- It's not easy to see where your block is transported to. Some transitional effect would help.
But a good game!
Oh yes: I think the game doesn't need the timer. Just progressing is enough I think.
Very nice minimalistic battle I think that was very original. There's more planning needed now for walking around.
Minimal graphics (makes me wanna make games in Excel again) and I like the music.
Good one
You had me at the 'wink wink nudge nudge'!
But there was a bit too much time before the zombies came. And after dying the game didn't end.
Good for a first try. Next time add some self made screams and try some own made textures.
That was funny.
This was minimalistic. I like that you used coins to give it a bit of a retro/arcade feeling.
Also quite a bit of variety in levels.
It could use some work on the levels I think. Some a bit more difficult, some a bit shorter. But there's lots of ways to expand this (some music would be nice)!
same here, doesn't work on win 7 64 bit.
Very good how you are able to combine the minimal pixelgraphics while still making it look so good! Nice music as well and background and all those different buildings.
Pretty impressive.
The gameplay was not really for me. Not my kind of game.
But that doesn't mean that the game doesn't kick ass, just that I dont :)
Bullithell is a type of game I always want to try to make.
This looks great and the gamemechanic where you get bigger when being is shot is brilliant!
Another autotracker, but here its speed is adjusted for the type of game.
I am used to using WASD but then combined with mouse in lefthand. This was a bit hard to steer.
So good it's something to tell my non-ludum friends about.
This has a great Portal feel to it (So I expect to see it in Steam this year :))
Well done!
PS: I do agree that the metal clang sound gets annoying.
Not bad. A wide array of brushes with sounds to match and three different types of villains.
A good choice of classic paintings.
It started out with the minimalistic theme but the more advanced brushes made the paintings more complicated in my opinion.
I think the difficulty was good for a ludum dare, so I played it to the end.
Some music would have been nice and next time just add the links in your post. You can change them after the deadline, you know?
For a few hours and a first try very good. I actually like the graphics.
Minimal game control with just the space, so fits the theme.
You suggestion of different routes and dead ends could be good.
'Save the potato' will probably be seen more (I know my game is about that).
Feels like this game is based on personal experience ;)
Quite an original game and it feels like your editing a page.
Funny as well.
The thing that didn't always work so well (I think) is that it was sometimes hard to grab a cat or something to throw away.
Maybe if I had an Ipad it would work better.
I don't know where that screenshot with the smiley face comes from must be from the post compo, because I didn't see it.
Anyway: a very funny game with the right looks (eventually).
PS: love your choice of avatar!
Very pretty.
It played very much like the 'real'push-the-ball-in-the-hole game. Unfortunately I dont like those games and this won had exactly the seem feeling. But I guess that means well done.
WASD: check, Mouse + WASD: check, WASD+ mouse + space: hmmm OK, WASD + mouse + space + move to platform when obstacle approaches and then can't shoot: AAAH!
Pretty hectic, but fun and because the enemies become predicatble after you played it, is is doable.
So I like it a lot.
Also a plus for the in-game music. Good build up!
HOLD ON! Where is the theme? Well I liked it anyway.
Dp the things in your own pace? But the assembly line kept moving.
This was a simple funny game, great for a ludum dare!
A fun game. I like the minimal color palette. I also like the three different steering mechanisms which work quite intuitive.
But for me the drive to play again wasn't that big. Just getting a better score isn't enough for me. Maybe some sounds or effects if you achieve highscores or something.
What also might work (but that's just me) is if you could die. It would bring more tension.
This is not a game, it's more of a statement or something to make you think.
I'm not good (patient) with reading instructions so I wan't sure what to do. At first I tried to shoot aim at the shooter then I tried to find out what i could do in this game.
Of course now I now it's not a game.
Oh no, autotracker! luckily I couldn't hear the music over the gunfire!
I like a dogfight so I had fun playing this.
I think I would like to see an upgraded version of this, but I don't know if would be checking up on you to see if you made one (so many games to play!)
Wow another programming language I have never heard of.
This is pretty much a finished product. Ready to ship. 5 stars!
It fits the minimalistic theme, but really doesn't need anymore.
If I had to name one point of criticism it has to be, that the flickering of the light in the corners can be annoying, but thats only when you're not playing but just watching.
It reminds me of Knytt.
Just out of curiosity: how does ooc compare to Java or As3?
this Space Captant did not make one mistake, but actually quite a lot. Crashing a lot, crashing so hard not all parts came back on the potato, getting stuck with the space ship, getting stuck on his back . .
But it had a great sense of exploration, also because I did not know how everything worked when starting. I would like to see a lot more of this game!
Also a different music on surface would be nice too.
Loved it! (I checked out your previous entries and recognized the Kittelutioning, which I liked too).
I like the beginning very much: a little back story why you are a dog.
It's funny and its short.
I think I would like to have a bit more detail to the graphics. And next time maybe you could do the menu in the same style, I think that would make the looks a bit more consistent.
This is a nice puzzler.
Reminds me of games made in Excel. So it has the minimalistic feel.
It could use some more levels and some more difficult levels, but it's a good start.
Are you planning to expand on this idea?
The art and input is very minimal indeed.
The art is also pretty and you dont need more input. It was well done all the nuances you can do with just some nods.
that I think for 8 hours you did a lot. I'm curious what you could have done with even more time.
I saw this game in a gameplay video with 290 LD games and I had to check it out (especially because I had an idea like this one but decided to do something different).
By now, I cannot add anything that hasn't been said above.
Just a magnificent game and the soundtrack, the best I've heard so far.
haha, just like my game this could easily fit with Evolution as well. Really original and good looking game.
I also like Noah at the beginning, very funny.
It sometimes was a bit frustrating to get things right (also because rotating was a bit counterintuitive), but I am very impressed!
Also the score mechanic didn't work for me. I didn't care about highscores but just wanted to make a good looking creature and finish the level :)
brilliant!
Haha, fun game. Nice game mechanic. Reminds of making games in Excel and using SelectionChange as a trigger.
Wow, impressive for one and a half hour.
Couldn't you have made it even quicker by just rotating one graphic in stead of making a few keyframes?
I like how you used the theme, clever idea.
I found this game to be a bit hard. It could be a bit frustrating, but parts of that can easily be fixed in a post compo version I think.
The scrolls for me were not obvious, so even with the instruction on this page I was still not sure if I had a scroll that would kill a tall blue guy or a small red guy or. It was also a surprise that walls were smashed by the bombs as well.
If you had some extra explanation on the game screen where you could see what scroll would remove what, it would help a lot.
Because you couldn't know before hand what kind of scroll you would get the game is a bit trial and error. That's OK, but because of the large amount of variables it took me a lot of work for a small amount of progress (but maybe I'm just too tired for this game at the moment).
Good idea, nice character, but needs some more work to make it sparkle.
That was great!
I really liked the broom of death. Curling should be that way!
And the music was great as well, did you make that too?
Nice. Galaga on steroids.
Nice sound effects and a good choice of music.
Played solidly and the little spaceships had its simple charm.
At first I thought 'who is the idiot that puts fire and movement for the same hand?" And then I found it had autofire :)
Consistent style also, the game, menu, choice menu and hi-score ui were all the same retro style.
It was pretty hard, because the ship moved so fast (the reverse of my game then :)
haha, I have games you can't restart too, but there it's not intentional.
Those graphics really are appealing. The way it moves the way it looks, the 'thoughts' in the background. Lovely!
I was no where near 628 :(
I can't wait for the post compo version.
This one is already lovely, with the brilliant graphics and music.
I didn't really know what to expect form this game, so I was a bit hasty at first, trying to get high level pigs and wanting to breed them by the dozen before the lord came back the first time, but the hints he gave made me realise you had to have patience.
Really nice!
Nice game. The way the levels are build are just right. You can go a bit wrong, it's not too much of a maze but also not too easy.
And the music is great!
Interesting color choice. because it was consistent throughout it gave it an other worldy feel.
It could maybe have used a bit of instructions on the 'sprint' mechanic.
I loved the graphics and for me no more explanation was necessary, because after a few turns you realise it's not just left/right.
Nice music in the beginning.
I found it so special I decided to check out some of your older entries, and I like the stuff you make!
But I have no idea where the them comes in.
I like how the mages look. The enemies look OK too.
The rest could use some more work. A moody music will help and some different terrain. A lot of the time you would have enemies on top of you which were hard to shoot. Maybe a flatter terrain so they can't fall on top of you and maybe some collission so they can't move through you?
Sometimes the aiming was buggy too. At some point I could only shoot to the right.
I like that the mages have different secondary spells, otherwise they would be very alike in playing, but I found the secondary spells not very useful. If you can make them more useful, you could have your favorite mage?
That was very good.
I rarely play schmups so it was very hard for me, but I liked it a lot.
Lots of bullits, lots of effects, lots of power ups. It played well.
Nice story.
I'm not sure how impressive your dragon can become, I didn't come very far, maybe someone can post a youtube video for a noob like me?
Just one thing: I didn't like having to install the game (and I think I'm not the only one). If you could make a stand alone version that would be great.
With gamemaker you could also create a version for the mac, no?
haha Christmas Zombies! I thought about it but couldn't make it fit the theme, but you guys did that brilliantly.
Great graphics and nice retro music.
Gameplay is fluent (except for the akward use of the mouse button for me)
I like the way Jesus bounces.
Good stuff!
That was cool (no pun intended, well maybe a little bit). And funny too. the sound gave it a chilly feel.
Nice take on the theme, I've seen nothing like that in the compo.
After the first two level I thought 'that's easy' and then it got a lot harder.
Nice game, I think you can expand on it. Some more options and maybe some more variety in the scenery, some less square ice tiles, smoother movement?
just some suggestions.
Sorry for people that may be trying to upload the game: I found a bug (a game breaker) and had to re-upload. Should be working now.
Yes the movement is still not very good (It's still about a 100% better than what I had after 48 hours, would you believe?).
The problem lies in my home-made collision detection. I think that it would be wiser just to do a complete overhaul of that than just try to fiddle with the way it now is.
So until I have a post compo version people have to put up with it (and it isn't that bad is it?).
That was a nice idea. I like the sinusioide ocean floor.
You should work on it some more, it has some promise; it can be a fun and hectic game trying to keep everyone oxygenated but also rescue them.
At the moment I found the game a bit too hard and too responsive or not responsive enough.
Maybe a different choice of keys would help as well. I easily got confused between J and K (and maybe they weren't always working).
And it would help if there was some audibel and visual feeback of what was happening so I would know that people were drowning, or I was drowning, I picked someone up etc.
Actually, not a bad take on the theme. A lot of people just made a regular game and just went 'you only have one laser/life'.
I really like this graphical style. Some nice touches in animation, for instance looking over his shoulder when pulling.
To be honest I: for me there were to many keys to press in the right order, so I didn't get very far (maybe a 360 controller makes it easier or maybe I'm just terrible at this).
But I can see from the comments that there are enough people who can do it:)
5 star graphics. Simple but so beautiful.
Where the game didn't work for me was the learning curve. I got the controls wrong at the start (and there is a bug there too, so the start was different several times, once I had to click a circle around the ball, then after it was never there) In level 2 it meant that I kept on dying because I understood the controls wrong. And having a split second before dying doesn't teach you much.
It got worse because when I did find out how the controls worked, there was bug that meant I couldn't end the level. I was again thinking I did something wrong. Only after trying another time I found out it was the game that was bugged.
If you iron out the bugs and maybe add a bit more instructions I think you have a winner. Now sadly, the game made me annoyed.
That was a nice puzzle game!
Cute blocky graphics and I also like that not all levels were the same size (I also thought about it, but had no time to implement it).
Good sound effects. They sounded 'blocky' too.
The last level took me some time. Nice puzzles but not brain breaking hard.
The undo mechanism worked very very good. It was a good way to try stuff and then go back.
It made your game a lot faster than mine, I see your point: my player was slow and if you made a mistake you had to redo the complete level in its slow pace. Maybe I can implement a kind of undo functionality in my game (have you played the compo or post compo version of my game? the post compo version is the same but faster).
The last level was a bit buggy. One of the two ladders would sometimes disappear if my friend and me were both picking it up. And one time ghost image of a ladder I picked up (in grey) would be left behind although I still had the ladder.
But that might be a bug of puzzlescript.
Ah snowball carnage. I couldnt resist a title like that. Little Southpark children (or should I say sitting ducks?).
I liked the music, relaxed and not something you hear a lot on a Ludum Dare unless it was found on the internet.
Is it midi?
AH, this was great! Addictive, some strategy, nice take on the theme.
Looked just right and the music never got boring.
The news head lines were a nice touch, somethiong to read while your clicking for your life.
Top marks for humor.
Too bad for the timer bug, I was doing well on my second attempt and then saw the time didn't run at all.
I'm glad I saw that before ruing my mouse :)
Thanks for your comments. Looking at your game mine is like a turtle. I've made a new version which is faster, so if you some time to play it again :)
aha, now I see how it works!
It could use some more explanation I think.
Two things that I had a hard time figuring out:
1. armies dont show up if you have 'manage' selected and peasant don't show up if you're in army mode.
2. space advances a turn so you get food and resources and barbarians advance.
oh and 3. you can add more troops to an army
After I knew that it was obvious what I had to do.
I like the idea, but its not easy to understand and play.
It could use some more visual clues I think. For instance what the army consists of, a bit more obvious in what mode you are, a bit more obvious that the building is placed, but not yet finished.
Stuff like that would really help.
Hold on, you're brothers? You're the Zestboi! With all your money made by the advertisments on your game page :)
I really liked the style of the game, the music, the overhyped tone, also a lot to choose.
But the driving needs some work, I found it unplayable. The idea of wrecking the car fits the theme but could use some more work.
Brilliant. I haven't solved the language yet but am intrigued enough to continue.
Great story, original and very beautiful graphics and a puzzle I want to solve.
Best game for me so far.
Of course I would have liked sound to make it more immersive, but maybe you can do that later?
This is a game to recommend!
Once again, very beautiful pixel graphics.
Great story, and the mood was well captured. The music fitted the oriental theme.
I like that there's a difficulty grade with other characters coming in. The enemies moved nice too, not just stupid drones.
What wasn't very clear for me was when I finished a level. At first I thought I died and had no idea why.
Pretty solid entry for your first one.
You really got into the spirit of christmas I see ;)
I agree that there is a lot of content. It just needs a bit of sound.
At first I thought that you couldn't do anything wrong, but later on I found out that you could and I did.
The thing I would change next time: it looks like the character can't fit through the doors, movement was a bit hard. Like other people who commented on my game: if you have to walk around a lot, better make it fast.
Haha that was funny and fun.
I really liked the destructible terrain and the randomness. Was it really possible to use multiple weapons? I thought that was a joke, but your instructions above suggest you can use more than just the laser.
Great game.
That's a nice way of telling a story. I also like that all parts fit toghether, the graphics, the sound, the story.
The red heart really leaps out.
I also like the twist when you enter the 'dark' part.
Although there was not much choice the game made you feel in control because you could walk around. That way you feel like you discover the story in stead of just being told stuff.
the message itself wasn't really for me, but with this kind of story telling you can't please everybody, it's personal.
Good job.
That was pretty nice. I liked the idea and the mood was well done. The graphics and music enhanced the mood.
I haven't played a game like this before.
You English could be better I guess, but I wouldn't understand much of the French version, so good choice there.
I would have liked if you had more puzzles than just the direction, but I can understand that 48 hours is not much (I needed 72 hours)
Haha, nice take on the theme. Good consistent graphics and the honky tonk piano sound was good with the wild west theme.
Did I hear 'shoot the perfects'? I had to look that up on wikipedia :)
Like other people I had some trouble aiming.
Nice.
You only have one . . . ball?
Cute goats and a nice game.
That was certainly something else.
I'm usually not a big fan of people trying to convey a message while I just want to play a game (and I don´t like to have to install something for a LD), but in this case it showed different views.
I have some views about the theme but I'l leave that for a post.
It's a bit ironic, that by making this game, you didn't really use the theme :)
amazing what a piece of music can do. It made the quest very melancholic.
The silhouet graphics work very well.
I'm not sure about using a physics engine for this type of platformer, but for the time you had, I may have been the right choice (I had a lot of trouble with my custom made platformer engine)
Wow, great everything. Music
that transported me back to the 80's, fun sprites (headcrabs!) and intruiging lines every time you die (that was a surprise when I found out you could continue!).
The controls were hard for me, so far I haven't been able to defeat the boss.
No music for me as well on Windows 7. Maybe something to do with non standard or multiple sound cards?
That's a shame, because your music was quite orginal (in an 80's kind of way) and would have fitted the game really well. I played them from the sfx folder.
Hold on! I just listened to loop4 and I think you have to credit other people for some of the music. Loop4 ended with something familiar from a C64 game I think (or did you make that music?)
I loved the bonus effect where your bullits would swirl in all kinds of sinusoid shapes.
The original game was too easy. At some point I tried to create music by shooting enemies in the rhythm of my bullit sounds, because I was never dying.
I also played 1.1 and that was certainly better, with a boss fight and more difficult.
That's weird. I wouldn't think this was an obvious idea, but this is the second orbital simulator I've seen this Ludum Dare.
Still very original. Ah! if only orbits in Kerbal Space program were so easy to change.
It looks very polished (very nice graphics!), simple but good sounds (I would like to have music, but it's hard to have music for a game that you play for a long time, like this one so it's better not to have music than annoying music).
The different constelations make it also more fun.
This was fun to do.
Great game, original mechanic.
What I like very much is that with just these simple options you still manage to make an interesting puzzle game.
Nice smooth graphics.
I understand why you have procedural puzzles (and they are good), because it saves you a lot of time (I didn't have enough time and my puzzles were too hard or way too difficult), but I think if you put in more options for your game, it will be even more fun with just the right well thought out braintwisters.
Maybe you can have a combination of procedural and none procedural elements?
The music was not really suitable for long play I think (it's playing while I'm typing this), but at least you made music (I do like the chiptunesound).
I found a bug (maybe already solved in the post mortem), I think it happened when the bottom character walked on a tile that just at that timestamp was activated; the character stood on then fell through the just activated block and from then on was one blocker lower than it should have been.
the game worked normally, but the character was just drawn lower than it actually was.
That's a very pretty game. The physics are solid and the sound is perfect for the game (have you ever watched 2001 a space oddysey?).
It's a shame though that the graphics were so small, and therefore I sometimes had trouble seeting which way I was pointing.
A bit too difficult maybe (just like my game, I think no one has finished that yet).
Like other people said: brilliant graphics, nice atmosphere! it could do with some more explanation and it was a bit buggy (you could keep going up on a ladder for instance.
Still pretty impressive after 48 hours.
Are you going to go further with this? Looks promising.
I love this! 5 star for the concept. A neat twist on the arcade game.
I like the all the arcade references, it plays like an arcade but you really have to change your reflexes.
This is one of those game I recomend to friends: 'look what they make at Ludum Dare'.
A mixed bag. A great idea I think, but it's not really finished I feel.
Great moody sounds.
It looks very polished and plays pretty smooth mostly, but clicking another part is then again not so easy.
I have the feeling that it needs a bit more work.
In the end I ended up playing rising lava of doom :)
Oops, I didn't read the instructions at first and didn't know it was multiplayer. Sorry about the random block spamming :)
But because I didn't read it was a nice revelation when other were adding to the world.
Original this was.
Ooh, I like the mechanics of this game. A bit like herding cats. Points for originality.
the graphics were weird, as if I was watching a VCR recording of a computer game from the 80's (hang on: that must be it!)
Ah, what the hell, I liked this game so much. 5 stars!
I loved the simple graphics, I loved the humor, I loved that you really had only one level up and the music is catchy as h*ll!
Maybe not the most innovative of games, but who cares?
Now I'm gonna try the 100 meter dash dreams.
Good mood, nice and short, cute graphics.
I especially like your take on the theme.
Not bad for 10 hours
Oh, but what I don't like is having to install a game for the Ludum Dare. I play 50-100 games. i don't like clogging up my computer.
Good entry.
The take on the theme was very original and the story was well told. The text graphics and sounds really conveyed the misery (and rats!).
My main tip would be to give the player infinite lives: I found it (like others said) a bit hard to avoid moving characters and with just a few lives you would easily have to start over. But with infinite lives you still would have progress and I wouldn't mind if the game got harder, especially for a Ludum Dare where I usually don't play games very long (sorry).
It's a good thing I also have IE, because Chrome didn't work.
And then I wouldn't have played this charming little game.
Simple but nice.
For me the sound didn't mess up. It just wasn't there.
That's a beautiful game! Very polished!
Nice idea about the color channel.
Its a good base for a game. On my wishlist would be: more sounds (jumping bonusses getting hit). A bit more difficulty in level design (I could get to the end without trying very hard and sometimes you got a bit stuck between the scenery).
A little tweaking on the movement: if you have to jump on a ledge you can't see when you start to jump, it can be annoying if you slide of the edge because you're a slippery toadstool.
I agree that a background behind the unity web player is nice touch!
Haha, funniest thing I've seen so far! 5 stars!
I'm impressed of the amount of animation done. In a marvelous style (reminded me of Day of the Tentacle).
It's a shame there is no sound, but the voice acting would have to be very good to fit the game and you would have to have it in Eglish or a made up language.
Maybe something like Wilhelms Escape:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-28/?action=preview&uid=28794
With a title like that I had to play it.
It was fun. Although defeating a frog and a cat didn't feel that brave.
It's pretty hard not to take the first item on a floor.
Reminded me a bit of gateway to aphsai. Nice!
Wow, this part of the jungle is WAY too dangerous, indeed!
And that egg is BIG, I think it's a cuckoos egg and you should lose it :)
As a story I think the 'you only have one egg' works. It puts a emotional drive to it.
There was something weird about the music, it only kicked in after a few minutes of play and several replays.
It became hard very quickly, but was compensated a bit because you knew beforehand what would come when.
Maybe you could add some savepoints?
I love the idea, quite original and it has the right mood. Good take on the theme. Here you really had only one.
It would have helped if you had a voice artist for this.
It was a bit too long for me, too long to try if I could do it differently.
But then again, playing it only once fits the theme.
haha, what a great game mechanic! I love how the package bounces and you have to scramble for it package while the enemies home in.
The mood is great too. Very good use of package and sound.
There is a bug. At one point I just got the package at the last moment, but became invisble. I anly became visibel again after I died.
Wow, this was great. Loved the style of the game, the graphics, good sound.
The voice acting was clever too. English subtitles, but a voice that conveyed the meaning in a universal way (especially the screams).
One of the best games I've seen so far (for me).
But annoyed that I still havn't solved it :)
I looked at the description and thought 'Oh no! that sounds like my game! And I thought I was original.'
They are pretty similar and you also seem to have a bit of a problem with collision detection.
Too bad you didn't get to do everything you wanted.
I used 72 hours (and so entered the jam) and managed to finish my game (in the nick of time).
Take a look and see if my game is something like you wanted it to be.
That was a cool concept with the teleporting.
Graphics and sound are good as well.
The levels look to be random. Sometimes I had the feeling that it was impossible to do.
Or maybe I'm not good enough :)
haha it's like I went back to the 80's and played an experimental game.
I found the music went well with the game, because it was weird.
I really liked the fashion show music, but could not figure out what the reasoning was between real and fake. Was one of them slightly different?
Maybe it is the point of the game to find out how it works?
Wow. To create such a game in 48 hours!
I also had fun playing this. I actually liked the sounds.
Well I just don't know what to say but: great!
I really like the style of your graphics. Good that you made three different ways to play.
Sometimes the monster would get stuck, but mostly it played well.
I thought, that if you made the game with Flash, making a mac version would be easy. Just change the publish settings? Or you zip a folder with the .swf and html files?
Nice idea!
I also like that there are different types of elements that do different things.
Visually it looks great to see all the trajectories of all your attempts to do better (a piece of art sometimes).
But that also made it more difficult at some point to see my last attempt. I already had trouble recreating my last attempt especially with slow speeds (it's hard to see where you are pointing when there's only a small line).
That made me feel a bit like shooting in the dark.
Some more indication of power and direction would be nice. Maybe not numbers, because that would make it too obvious, but maybe some circles around your dot as power indicators and lines radiating form the center at every 30 degrees to indicate direction?
That way you could more easily finetune your last attempt ("I was somewhere between the first and second circle and next to the 30 degrees line").
Wow, all this in 48 hours? I am deeply impressed. Lots of content.
I like the music (maybe just a bit too sad for the light tone of the game, but nice nonetheless).
The puzzles were nice, good mixture of puzzle and platformer.
You have thought about a lot of improvements, like the removal of the batteries. I think that's a good idea. The battery AND the time limit AND the coins were a bit much. I would get rid of the coins (and maybe the time). The battery cab have a function because you can use it to recharge and shoot and maybe more. I don't think people play puzzle platformers to get a highscore, but to make it to the last level.
All in all: well done!
Ok, that was a good idea, but playing it, was too annoying.
Maybe that is because I lose because the computer moves my character, it doesn't feel as if I'm the problem, it feels like the computer is the problem.
Maybe if there is more time between the computer moves so you can think about the right strategy and computer opponents that move in more predictable ways, would make the game feel less like a random loss.
But I certainly like the way the game looks.
Nice concept, but bugs kept me from playing. After a while I couldn't move anymore.
Nice mood in this game. The graphics, music and texts work nicely together.
I wish there were more choices and see more of the outcomes but it's still a nice experience.
I would have played it more but the adds on kongregate were really long!
Well I haven't seen an imp yet. It worked well (except for the mentioned bug), but it was hard as well and with the time passing I thought I would never make it anyway.
I will try the updated version later, because I am curious about the imps.
I really like the art style.
By the way: is there a way to stop Unity to offer me resolutions too small to play the game? It suggests tome 1024x768 but then a lot of the game is not in view.
Nice story and great music. Very VVVVV.
For me, I found the character and cube hard to control because they would slide so much.
It made me give up sooner than it would have otherwise. Sorry.
Haha the screenshots look like one large diner.
I think this is a good take on the theme. Easy to understand and play.
After playing it for a while I wished you could have something more convenient in stead of a mouse and then I saw there were Android downloads too.
I had a try on my android too. And like other people said: a good game for mobile.
That was interesting. I'm glad I persevered.
The surprised expression of the 'enemies' was funny. A bit similar to mine when I understood what I had to do.
The instruction were cryptic though, without the hints above and knowing there was a solution I would never have found it out. That's not your fault, but with the Ludum Dare some games have broken or not well implemented features because of time constraints. Here it was intentional.
Original this.
yay, i win!
The boss was a bit tricky especially before I realised I could attack ;)
I liked the sound effects.
Well done.
First game ver? Not bad.
I like the death animation the '1' bullits and the enemies.
I enjoyed shooting the enemies. If you could have added some sound, when shooting and killing and perhaps when reaching the money I think I would have enjoyed it even more.
For a Ludum Dare it's good you kept it short and gave it an ending. It could be more difficult I think.
It needs some work on the platform side, but just find the apropriate tutorial and you'll get there.
Well done, see you next time
A good mood in this game. And the music fitted the mood.
I really liked the graphics and it played very smooth.
Some disabbilities were harder than others. Playing half blind was just hit and miss and was too frustrating for me. Being illterate was so much easier.
A good amount of content.
Nice game. I like all those voices talking at the same time.
Good choice that 'game over' doesn't mean back to the beginning. Otherwise I might not have finished the game.
One of the best ways I've seen to incorporate the theme.
Nice graphics, and funny as well.
It reminded me in some ways of the very old game bugaboo. In a hard physics way you had to get to a point and it was very frustrating, but you had to try again and again and again.
well there was music and graphics but no enemies?
nothing happened I could walk around and sometimes shoot, but that was it
OK gave it another try. Those blocks are exits! That was totally NOT clear.
I must say I find the review of Strangelander a bit harsh.
Nice graphics and sound (nice idea with the affliction), but it didn't play very well.
I didn't get a good idea of what was happening. Some more audio and visual feedback would be nice.
Haha I win!
It played well for me and it was easy, which for Ludum Dare is a good thing.
An orginal and funny game.
What a good idea to make a roguelike for android. I think the way you did it works. Very simple controls.
If you decide to continue with this (which I would like) here are a few wishes: smoother visuals; the jumpiness of the scroll made it unclear what the movement did. Also put some more details on the character so you know which way it's facing. Some basic sounds would help, some more variety in enemies (maybe not only instant die?) And because it's for mobile, maybe less characters or a saving ability so you can play it more casually.
A lot of wishes, but I like your entry.
Hmm, all the parts are so good. Maybe one of the best I've seen.
The graphics are in a neat html5-style, the music fits the game, makes it more enjoyable and can be listened to for longer periods.
Well executed theme by not having a 'play again?' feature.
Wacky out of control controls that make the game suitably frantic.
But the best part for me were the texts. Very funny!
Just a tiny tiny remark: the instructions could have been a bit larger. But there is a good thing about that: if you play without reading you'll soon find out, that that's NOT the way.
OK, I'm beginning to hate Unity. First it didn't work in Chrome, you can choose a resolution and the suggested one leaves stuff outside the screen.
This game I couldn't get to start. I walked around, couldn't do anything. Then thought 'that door looks labelled New game'. Couldn't click it. Restarted in higher resolution, saw another door, but not complete visible. And no way to do anything but shoot a bullit and get a game over before I started.
Oh, that means I'm not rating the game yet. Maybe if I get it to play later on. The animations do look good.
Haha fun game. Like the music. At first I thought it didn't really fit the theme, but playing the game I found out it made sense.
It reminds me of my entry for the 'Blood in the water' mini ludum, but better.
There are a few minor bugs. Once I ran over a passenger, got blood in the water and the "death" sound, but also picked up a passenger. I'm also not sure if the accounting is right. At a end the game said I killed 10 and the sharks zero passengers? I'm pretty sureI saw some passengers being killed by sharks.
Nice.
That music is brilliant! Old skool catchy!
What a weird idea, ha!
haha, is that general winchester? Not a photoshop of your granny?
It played pretty smooth
It wasn't easy, but there's nothing wrong with that.
On my wishlist would be: (pew pew) sounds, so you get a audible feedback from what's happening (getting hit, shooting, destroying). And a skippablre intro after the first go.
I like that you took the effort of having random loading hints.
The music and the game go hand in hand in this experience. I think that is a big reason this game captures your mood.
It really takes you for a ride.
Niiiice.
Nice storyline, nice take on the theme and told with a good sense of humor.
The nice layered graphics and the 5 star music make this a memorable game. And for a platformer that is saying something.
Grr, effing Unity webplayer, makes my computer unstable. luckily only when I want to leave to game page so I could try this game.
It's a beautiful design, very clear and neat graphics.
The physics work smooth.
I'm curious what you're going to do with it.
didn't run I got 'runtime: panic before malloc heap initialized
fatal error: runtime: cannot reserve arena virtual address space'
Windows7 64 bits
The idea of just having one power up, I've seen a few times before, but for me this is one of the best implementations. It really mattered what you chose.
At first I wondered how on earth you would make it possible to get all stars no matter what choices you made, but at some point I concluded that it some were just not possible.
Still a lot of content and I really like the hand drawn graphics (not sure if they were, but they looked that way).
If you plan to continue with this I would suggest you make the interface (buttons etc) in the same style. Very nice.
Aha, had to Google that.
Funny.
Very nice that you've been able to keep the app so small.worked perfectly on my phone.
It looks very polished and the game mechanic isn't annoying(I expected that difficult steering would be).
I agree with the music. Something nice and polished would go better with the game, but I'm still impressed.
Although I agree with your thoughts about the theme I have no idea what to do about it. It's a majority vote (and actually I'm pretty pleased with what I came up with, it challenged me even more to think outside the box).
And you're game is still very good :)
The game reminded me of XKCD :)
A a bit frantic, but nice.
It took a while to get used to the controls.
although using a left handed mouse is a bit broken in XNA (I had to use the other mouse button) I had surpsrisingly good fun with this game.
I thought the elements were just right. A bit of tactic to hit as many enemies with one throw, but also a bit of randomness because aiming isn't perfect, so it becomes a bit hectic.
The monsters were nice.
If I would wish for anything it would be some more soundeffects (real gory ones, please).
Good game!
Wow, what a stylistic masterpiece. Very smooth graphics. Very good tutorial which also looks nice.
Impressive what you can achieve with minimal colors and shapes.
For the game I found selecting sometimes a bit hard especially with small circles. It would have helped is I could navigate about the planet a bit quicker.
by the way: I saw other people reply about the sound, but at first I didn't hear the sound. It was very soft (but had also a nice mood).
The graphics I liked, although our finest men did look a bit like skeletons :)
Nice concept, but meaybe a bit too easy. But for a LD that means I didn't have to be very good to see all content. YAY!
A lot of great looking mini games.
All the click and drag games I didn't get though. I clicked and dragged all kinds of ways, but couldn't get anywhere (hmmm, why did I type that).
It was a perfect package (ehm after playing this game everything sounds like a double entendre), the music fitted the graphics and type of game very well.
That was a nice game. Playing easy indeed was a bit too easy.
I like the dinosaur roar at the beginning.
Nice graphics too.
I played on Android and your finger sometimes gets in your view. Good thing you changed that.
The mood is well set by the gameplay and music.
With the title as it is, the aging process was easily understood.
The game got pretty hard when aging because not only would the path become unclear but quite suddenly your movement would slow down to a crawl. I've played VVVVV, so I can imagine that you meant the game to be hard.
But the purpose, goal, mechanics and other was not so clear and in this game I got a bit too little in return for my exploration to keep me curious. When I did find something it disappeared and I didn't have a clue if it did anything, changed anything.
I can imagine that with a bit more work it can really be journey of discovery and wonder.
short and sweet
I very much like the graphics. That's a keeper!
I think, what impressed me most about this game is the level design. It all fits so well. The flawless integration of new features, the puzzles, the difficulty.
This is top class puzzle design!
WOW!. You had me with the old school music, but the rest of it played like a arcade classic as well (summer games etc.).
It was fun to play, the gameplay was excellent and the minigame was surprising.
Just great!
Oh and welcome to the Surf Ace club ;)
Oh and
Excellent! Super cute! Fun to play as well.
Simple graphics that really go with the game.
I like Japanese pop, so a big plus for me there.
Small points: It wasn't always clear when you hit a note or not (same for the page).
Is it the case that catching more notes in a row doesn't matter much? I thought that the scores should multiply, so you would strive for faultless levels for ridiculous high scores?
Out of my own interest: how did you get the timing of the tambourine sound right? I found timinbg sounds in Flash always a bit tricky.
haha, the same idea! I'll try it after some sleep!
Ok, totally not the same game as mine, just the same title :D
And I thought I made a silly game.
Damn, I think I have to rate this highly now.
Well done (although the game could have done without the last sentence).
The best I've seen so far (not that I have played that many games yet).
There are with every LD some totally unexpected games. For me this was one.
Skip intro with 'S'.
@Lars: haha, sorry about that. I knew it was impossible to react to something thrown from just a few pixels away, but I didn't have time to implement a good solution, so my fix was, not having anything thrown within a certain distance from the boat. But now Ben is going with 3 pixels per second and nothing happens until you reach the boat.
I'll make a fix for that I think.
Oooh, nice nice.
I might grab the source to take a look.
It got pretty hard quite fast. I disagree with people saying there's not enough variation.
Hmm, this one's so retro I'm scoring it high on mood!
great effect with the waves!
Just add some frantic chip music.
Wow, those graphics, the sound, the mood really inviting to play!
Good game and creates a great sense of wonder.
For me it's almost perfect. As a puzzle game I found some things a bit repetitive and too much of a hassle, too many Gems. Or maybe I should play this game at another time.
woah, there are really not many reactions to this. maybe you haven't played many yourself, because this is interesting.
Not sure how things work, but it is intruiging and the looks and sounds of it make it worthwhile to play around for a while, even if I don't understand it.
What added to the confusion is that the icon for the animal/plant you're placing is quite different from the thing you see when placed.
So some instructions mighyt help.
Well done on the title of course ;)
You made the pun into a original game.
I liked the graphics (good waves) and the music fitted this type of game I think.
The steering was a bit odd for me. The mouse is somewhere on the screen, which makes the dolphin go in a certain direction, which makes the surf ace move and you have to scan where the surf ace is going and try to score points by jumping the hoops. It all was a bit much for my old eyes :) Wchich is a shame, because that way I miss some of the nice graphics.
So, good game but for me a bit too difficult.
Most original concept I've played this Ludum Dare so far! Also the most original gameplay.
It took me a while to figure out, because I didn't know what the 'switch screen' was.
As a game it needs a bit of work because with patience you can't go wrong so the biggest enemy is impatience. I think that's not the best gaming concept.
It took me while to figure out that the planes were not potential targets but moved the people.
After that I had mo0re fun playing this game.
Very nice take on the theme and easy to play with nice graphics.
Enormous scores! (sometimes to big to fit in the screen if I'm not mistaken?)
Haha, how do I score this on fun? Well it's a kind of fun.
Nice take on the theme and a great mood. I was curious what was beneath, but good horror also leaves stuff to the imagination.
I think it also was a nice way to present this short adventure. Just enough graphics to set the mood.
The only thing I would think you could change is the pixel font. I think it doesn't fit the game.
haha, I always find it a bit weird if people write about how their own game has beautiful graphics and awesome music. But I have to agree, the music and graphics are really good.
I think I could use some instructions. I had the feeling all I could do was plant one type of snapping tree, but I could see two symbols, but couldn't find out how to switch and the beat'em up reference suggested I could hit maybe?
So it might be a better game than I noticed. If you could add some instructions I could find out :)
Brilliant mood. From the screenshot it looked like a kind of H.E.R.O. but it's totally different.
A weird trippy puzzler.
It's hard too! I'm not getting far so far.
Oh: when I quit the game, the music keeps playing for a while and there's a stream of openGL errors. Maybe good to know?
OK, this time the Unity web engine worked, but only on Firefox.
You opening picture is great, also the take on the theme. And there's also a nice array of obstacles .
With the music it gives the game a nice old style arcade game feel.
That sure is a cute mole!
Nice take on the theme. I found it pretty hectic. I didn't think about hiring more dwarfs, the ones I had were hard enough to manage!
The opening picture I love.
If I could ask for one thing is some visual clues what was happening. It took me a while to realise that a sound meant that I had picked up a beer or a pickaxe. I also didn't find it very clear if I broght the stuff to the right dwarf. If you would be able to see the stuff the mole was carrying and when it was deliverd it would help.
Booh! 48 hours compo so you have to post the source too!
(really I wrote that so I could take a look at how you did the nice wind swirls ;))
Too bad it's not finished. Are you going to make a finished version? Then I would change the baddies, because they pixels don't look right next to the vector graphics.
Ha, what a nice idea. But sooo difficult.
Good music. I hope you're planning to work on it some more
Good on you, for doing the Ludum Dare!
And well done for making your won music. I like the graphics (I played on a low resolution, which I think works better).
If you have time, you might want to work on it some more: for me it was a bit buggy. I would get stuck on all kinds of places. I also didn't really get how the jump worked.
You still have 12 hours until the Jam deadline.
btw: the Jam has teams working with (some) premade graphics and music, so the overall level of that is even higher!
To start: great title ;)
Funny adventure which was short enough for a Ludum Dare. Good jokes.
I also like the music, really something different.
I'm sorry.
I'm usually not very critical, but this game is IDENTICAL to O'Reillys mine.
It's becoming pretty common to recycle old games and it really rubs me the wrong way (I recently saw a commercial Pharaos curse rip off without mentioning the original).
The trouble I have with it is, that by now most people have forgotten about the orginal or are too young to know it. So it's easy to do.
To be fair: you're not ttrying to make money of it and it is a good copy and you mentioned O'Reillys mine in the intro, but for me this crosses the border between 'influenced by' and 'a copy of'. Why not tweak the game a bit so it isn't so much like the original?
I DO like the opening picture, which shows you can do original things.
Hmm, I'm inclined to rate this 1 star, but I'll keep it unrated for now.
The originality of this is great. Cute graphics too, with animation as a reward. Could use some sounds. But there are some serious issues with the positioning of the pixels.
The snapping is sometimes just plain wrong. It made the second level almost unfinishable for me.
I think you have something nice here, but just work on the pixelsnaps.
Actually I think you can do it under the rules too.
Man, you certainly know how to set a mood.
I really liked how the game looked, although it became at some point tiring for my eyes.
I like all the Java programmer references.
The difficulty was right for me, I played it till the end.
beautiful.
Oh, I just love how the troll looks lurking in the water!
I like what you did with the theme.
The graphics look great as well.
Quite a hard game to survive for long I think. I was misled by 'Troll regains energy in water'. Not if he's pooped on!
The music gets on your nerves pretty quick, but I guess you know that :)
haha, weird in the best possible meaning!
I like the graphics, the original game mechanic, the sound effects and music.
Just really funny!
Ooh, that's a nice color scheme!
We had the same idea (five star for theme!:)), but you have done more on gameplay.
It looks nice and plays well.
The music instruments sound a bit like those of autotracker. Is it that? If so, I also commend you for using the non-standard settings!
oh, and great lettering too!
This is so good, it makes me jealous!
Funny, good looking, sounds good and best take on the theme I've seen (and I don't think I'll see a better take).
Maybe I'll take a peek at your code too.
This game's style reminded me of the Neverhood. Which is great of course.
Well done.
I wasn't too sure about what made my shark explode, though.
I read in your post, that you never painted art before. That's hard to believe, because it looks very good.
This had a great mood.
But it's even less of a game than mine :D
Are you going to do more with this story?
It was fun to play and did get more difficult later in the game. I also liked the details like the seagull and the splashing.
Music fits the game well.
I saw your post of this game a few hours before finishing my own game. 'Damn' I thought, 'he has the same idea'.
And you have surf music as well.
I used more than 5 hours, but I had a lot more pixels (vectors actually). I think your choice is better if you're time constrained, like in a LD. my graphics took forever!
Welcome to Ludum Dare! It's nice to see you did post something. Now at least you can vote :D
Well, one step does not get you far. On the upside: the evil(?) martians can't get to me either :)
You description makes me curious what the game will be like when it's finished.
The art IS great, you are lucky with Angel!
It looked great and there quite a few different aspects to this game.
I personally didn't like the control scheme. You had to follow the boat and drag with the mouse. Controlling with LEFT/RIGHT would be more logical I think.
It is possible to get off screen I found out and then there is no other possibility than restart. Which would have been nice if there was a button for it.
The instructions (using space) were off screen for me, so if you made the screen just a little smaller, I would know a bit sooner how to deploy a net. Or put instructions on this page.
But those are all the (hopefully constructive criticisms I have).
I worked on a game about keeping the right expression, but I abandonned it after day one, because I couldn't find a way to make it fun.
You managed to do that, so I applaud you!
Original game mechanic, that combination of arcade and conversation choices.
It's a bit easy, but for a Ludum Dare that's a good thing (we all have another 100 games to play, right?).
You had so many posts on the compo page I HAD to try it. Being rejected by Apple for 'bad taste' also helps ;)
I also like crude graphics like 'just put a dogs head on a dolphin body' (which is well done by the way), so you rate high on the humor category!
Nice music, that gave me the strength to keep going!
Although this is technically a text adventure, I really like the graphics.
The mood was suberb, it really took me on a journey.
The video was not really for me. I found it didn't fit the mood. I think because your excellent texts made images in my mind that didn't go with the video.
For a Ludum Dare it needed some more interaction to be called a game. It's more of a linear story now. But I'm still glad I played it!
This game has a good mood. Nice idea to have sound beneath the surface.
'Trial version', so you're planning to expand on this?
With Flash 8? Well done.
It looks good and has some nice twists.
Funny scenes and enough nice sound.
All in all quite an original experience (maybe not really a game, but who cares?)
The simple art really fits the theme I think. Although it should really be more ugly, programmer art, right?
I'm not sure about the ending, was the crash to desktop supposed to happen? At least it gave me some sound ;)
If you expand on it, could you give a stack trace then?
Nice mood, great minimal graphics. only a few pixels were enough to show the character eating and doing push ups. Nice choice of colors.
The music was therapeutic too :)
12 hours, first Ludum Dare, good job.
I like the idea and actually think the graphics are nice. If the letters would have been the same style as the rest I think it would have been better.
I almost didn't because I had to install. If you find a way to avoid that I think you can have more people playing.
You could change that on your game now without breaking the rules, I think.
That was fun to play! Simple controls make it play well. I also liked the graphics and effects.
Maybe could have used some music.
Nice.
Looking at your screenshots I thought at first you played as an itenstinal worm :)
Good mood, good sound to go with it.
There was a decent build up of difficulty and starting out without weapons is a nice touch. I think some sound effects for the weapons would have helped.
I was surprised I couldn't go back through doors and was also surprised that I got killed. Some audio feedback would have helped there too, to give me a indication how much I got hit, how much I hit etc.
Otherwise, nice game.
At first I thought it was like other games I have seen on Ludum Dare, but after playing this for a while I realised this had a playability I had not seen in previous versions.
The game is addictive and a gives you the 'just one more try' feeling.
And nice (and functional) music of course!
This game is so subtle! The way the story is told . . I just love it.
I found the interface not very intuitive, if you can fix that and maybe add some audio, you've got a perfect game as far as I'm concerned.
Haha, nothing wrong with a pun!
I like the moody graphics. it clashes a bit with the silly pun this game is, but they are nice.
I saw in your profile, that you are a musician. This game could have used some moody or silly music. Or have I missed it? Maybe next time music and no applet attempt?
I can relate to your Java applet annoyance. It's a nice idea but too much hassle (and a fair chance it will not work on someone elses computer).
For a Ludum Dare a jar is fine, a lot of people post .exe files, so why not a .jar?
What a lovely game!
Charming graphics and a original game concept.
Some more sound would have been nice, but this is better than bad sound.
I would have liked a bit more visual feedback when someone's got what he/she wants. Maybe a bit speedier.
Other than that great!
Quite original this. The third level had me stumped though. I can't complain about teh game being to hard though, my game is virtually unifinishable.
Very good narration, good rhymes.
I also like the way it looks.
The interaction is a bit unintuitive. And it would be nice that falling to tour death would end the level.
haha, going for the Niche of niches!
I cant play this. Too bad.
@Dx724: That's weird. I found it working on several computers (all windows 7, though).
The game does need a good computer and a (browser with a) recent version of Flash
Apologies to all:
It turns the game was unwinnable at the state it was in (some last minute edit that I didn't test).
I fixed it, tested it, and it's now playable.
Sorry!
I'll play your game tomorrow, but first an apology:
It turns out my game you played, was unwinnable at the state it was in (some last minute edit that didn't test).
I fixed it, tested it, and it's now playable. It now also gives more heplful hints.
Thank you for trying!
Good music and nice clear pixel graphics (like the aliens). I don't think the game needs a gameplay video, it's pretty clear as it is. the aliens give helpful hints in a good non-intrusive way.
I also like little touches like frying the aliens.
The thing that I liked less was the mouse control, for me it was too sensitive so I had trouble getting the lasers get the lasers just right. And likt metioned above: the staring point of the rotation.
All in all a good puzzle game.
Wow, great game. I really don't have anything bad or good to say that hasn't been said before.
Love it.
The music for this game is fantastic. Although visually it's good too (the way tension is build up) the music is even better.
Nice simple gameplay and difficulty gradually building up: Good game.
Well, you're post was really attracting my attention. The game plays very well. Just running around and running up the stalks is fun.
Graphics look great the music is moody and voice acting good as well.
So all in all great (maybe more of a goal, but for a Ludum Dare good enough, I don't want the game to take hours (like my game :) )).
I made a game about love and planets and was curious if this was similar. I started without reading instructions and was pleasantly surprised.
I like how you the use of tacics is involved.
original game, this
Well executed theme, like the title and story. Man, it got pretty complicated after a while.
The music really grew on me, I liked it better after playing for a while, that's great for a puzzle game.
Did you synchronize the flashes and beat programmatically?
(nice touch by the way)
Best use of the theme for me!
A lovely story and I think it's great work you've managed to make so many mini games.
I had some trouble figuring out with one mini game until I realized I could talk to the patient.
Solved them all. Good work!
Very nice game.
The graphics are great for a game like this. The menu, ships, sea, land are all the same nice style.
Nice music.
Good job for making a strategic game in this short amount of time.
A lose condition would have been nice. The game continued without trade routes and money which is pointless.
And I'm not sure about the pirate mechanism. It works, but is a bit weird with not seeing anything.
Great mood and a very nice take on the theme. The graphics were simple but all the more atmospheric and enhanced the sory telling.
Wow.
Things moved, things died, things exploded, walked, made noise.
Lots of them in intruiging patterns and colors across lots and lots of worlds.
While the hupnotizing drone continued.
I like it a lot, but I don't know why :)
I love the retro feel of this game. The music fits perfectly. Charming title too.
The tutorial was nicely put into the game.
I had some trouble with the controls because overriding mt 'up is also jump'instinct was hard :)
Some parts of the game could be a bit more obvious perhaps: not everything was visible. You could stand on a part that was suitable for both characters, but the only way to find out was by switching.
Also sometimes going down a hole was good, sometimes deadly. If you could make that a bit more obvious you would have a good puzzle platformer.
First of all: love the 'SPAAAAACE'!
It took me a while to get it, because I played the intro and then the game didn't advance. (the text balloons were still in the air and no enemies coming). After a restart everything worked OK.
Too bad that there was no sound, because it's a nice game.
I couldn't finish the game on my own, but I can't complain about the game being too difficult, because my game is too :D
Wow, great music!
At first I found it too hectic for a puzzle game, but it is a bit more of a action puzzle game, so it kind of fits.
I would like it if it were more obvious which rectangle was playing.
I did find the second level quite hard for such an early level, though.
Aha, unexpected!
Nice graphics, nice music, smooth easy to understand play and then. . .
Yes,l you did alright for a first LD!
It's a complete game, movement is good, there's a story, a game mechanic, you can kill and be killed. It's a bout the theme. Simple graphics are clear.
Well done.
Next time, maybe some music, and do some spelling check on your english?
Weirdness should be a category as well. And this would be a winner.
Love the sound and graphics and wackiness. I couldn't find a point to it but, maybe I haven't cleared my mind enough ;)
it sounded interesting, but it seems your site is down
The graphics look great, but Chrome refuses to donwload it, claims it will damage my computer. Is it virus free?
Nice game.the graphics were small on my phone, but still big enough to be nice.
Worked smoothly on my device. I was a bit confused on the concept, am I playing one side against the other? I missed the connection to the theme a bit, I guess.
But it was fun playing.
'What am I doing wrong on this level?', I thought
I did not read properly the second level is the last level!
I really like the look of the game.
For me the controls are wrong, they should be rotated 90 degrees. But that's always a bit tricky for this kind of view.
Nice atmosphere created by the random-sounding-but-nice music combined with the lighting.
The randomness could use some tweaking, that there always is a solution and you don't die immediately, but still a nice game.
It's the first trading game I've played this Ludum Dare. And it's a puzzler too.
Well made for mobile, smooth experience.
Nice idea. The first few levels I thought it was impossible to go wrong, but out got harder.my only criticism is that the use of letters in a row is a bit confusing
Other bug random looking crashes (win 7 64 bit):
mogamet/libraries/hump/timer.lua:12 attempt to index local 'subject' (a nil value) which had in the traceback things like 'takeDamage''dealAreDamage' etc.
It happened several times.
Still a great looking game with lots of shooting options.
Also nice take on theme.
Overall I found the game quite good. Nice graphics and a really great take on the theme. The music was good, but not for the amount of time it took for me to solve the puzzles. But you had an option to turn it off.
I had trouble with the puzzles though. There were some that I think Idid right but were not recognized. And some I just didn't get. Good thing you posted solutions!
Haha, those were some GREAT weapons. Very funny. Good take on the theme.
Some noises would have been nice, but I had fun playing too.
You must use CTRL to throw the food
You can't throw, until the thrown food has hot or gone out of bounds
You only have limited amounts of every food stuff (for lettuce I think you have 5 portions). After you have thrown 5, you have to switch to a different food.
The game tries to make changes so there is always enough healthy food, but it doesn't always work.
To be clear (or more clear): some food will hurt zombies, but other food will heal zombies.
The game will try to keep the amount of damage you can do enough to kill all zombies, but if you throw everything without considering the effect you will probably run out of food.
And butter is considered bad for you, so it is initially good for zombies.
Maybe that's what happened?
It's a shame it's not completely finished. I liked the graphics that were finished (I really wanted to kill the walking guy).
The game is very hard (but maybe I'm just not good at bullit hell games). There's just no avoiding all the bullits.
I hope you will add sound, because this game could really benefit from it.
Lovely!
You really succeeded in creating a mood. Sound, music, graphics, the speed of play all enhanced the mood.
It shows that designers worked on the graphics.
I rarely see a .jar in a Ludum Dare that looks so good!
Nice moody sound effects.
I did get better after I got the hang of it, but never really good.
But that's got nothing to do with the quality of the game:)
A crosshair, my kingdom for a crosshair!
I actually liked this!
The title was good, the wacky idea was great. Ik liked the sound effects of the intro (very funny).
But not easy, because you don't have a crosshair. And death is not far away.
The only thing I did not like so much, was the music. I think it might even be better if you just used more of the sound effects (those were great!)
I enjoyed this better than I expected. I'm usually terrible with games that require coordination with both hands, but this was fun to play.
you can die extremely fast (sometimes I didn't even SEE what it was), but you just try again and again.
Good graphics, quite a lot of content for 48 hours.
But for the theme? Machine gun is not an unusual weapon, is it?
WOW! Great game, very original weapon!
And it looks, sounds and plays like a finished product (and I'm not just saying that because I'm from Groningen too ;)).
The graphics are cute and pixely, just like the music.
If I could wish for one thing I I would have liked some more spawn points. Sometimes you have to a lot things over.
Wow this is pretty ambitious!
The map is large, which gives a nice feeling of a complete world. The interface is easy to understand.
But the two times I played there happened not a lot and then I died without hope.
Just the day to rate this game.
It feels a bit like an 80's arcade game (only a lot easier), also because of the music.
I think the game could use some audio and/or viual feedback on the weapons/effects but other than that, it's fine (altough I would like an 80's arcade style high score list, but that's just me).
I think I've deserved that beer now.
Very funny take on the theme.
I like that you have face towards your enemies to kill them
Too bad there was no sound. A fast music with some funny sound effects would really enhance gameplay. Maybe for a post compo version?
It was still fun to play, though!
Nice game. The music really sticks in your head, but in a good way.
I like the looks of the enemies, not sure what they are, but that doesn't matter.
It's a good thing that you can keep the mouse pointer ate the same place between tries so you can improve on previous tries.
The feeling of progress kept me going. For a Ludum Dare it was the right level of difficulty and number of levels.
You made the game with libgdx for OSX? I thought that suppport for OSX was a bit lacking? Anyway I played on Windows, and it worked fine.
Lovely experience!
The artwork is great, the colours make everything come to life and the music fits (except maybe the end music, which sounds a bit dramatic to me)
I like the difference in the end level. It feels right.
I quite liked the question/answer system. The game wasn't too long or too hard, but you had to think a bit for the correct answers.
There sure is a lot of voice acting.
The german accent I like :D
The graphics look hand drawn and are great, the whole package looks smooth.
I can't fault you for the simple animations, I actually like that (that's what I do too).
I would not recommend the web version if you have to reload every time you make a wrong answer.
And nice that you are so open about the usage of music. But all the voice acting deserves a audio raring too.
Short but sweet. I actually found your game pretty easy to understand. You just walk and everything becomes clear.
I might take a look at your code how you made the game synchronise with the music. Nice music by the way.
Haha, I like the fact that you are on this dramy floating beautiful, idyllic island slaughtering the wildlife!
Graphics have a nice hand drawn quality to them.
Good piano sound, but the music was not really for me, after playing for a while it got on my nerves.
But nice game.
Ooh, nice! great idea and nice development of difficulty.
Our game mechanics are somewhat similar with the changing of right and wrong, but I'm sad to say that I think you implementation is better!
The only trouble is: when multiple people are at the same spot you can't tell the good and bad people apart.
Funny! The weapons are unconventional, as are the playyrs. Well done. Graphics look nice.
I played against myself. I had the feeling that love does not conquer all.
'it's just a flesh wound!'
Haha, this ticked a lot of boxes (ahem) for me!
Humor, weird game mechanic, nice puzzles.
it gives fear of separation a completely new meaning!
great!
Hey, you don't want to be rated on your audio? Well there was not much of it.
At first I didn't see what the things were, because of the shadows.
I think the game could be improved by implementing a win/lose condition. Because throwing the seed too late or in an empty area is now without consequence.
Ofcourse I didn't read the description and just started playing. "Hey, this game is not finished!"
But you said so.
Well it's working, just a bit buggy.
Better luck next time!
No weapons, just unbridled consumerism!
Just joking, this was a serene gaming experience. Although it could use a goal it was relaxing (especially when I found the exploit of putting a weight on the up key and going for lunch :)
Oh dear, I'm not sure what I should do.
I think I caught the two mice, but I don't get any feedback, the game just stops. If the second mouse is gone, have you beaten the mice?
Are there any more levels?
Nice game.
Graphics look good and played pretty smooth for me.
I found the controls actually pretty hard. You have to walk with WASD or CURSOR and press SPACE with the same hand, because you use mouse with your other hand. I really couldn't get the weapon on the place I wanted it to be placed.
I later watched the lets play video and saw that I had the right idea.
Also I didn't know you could retrieve your weapons.
I think this is an idea you can expand upon. Maybe some more levels and later on you get less hints, so that you can place the weapons anywhere and you have to figure out what the right place is?
And then add some music and sounds?
It's al very well done. Impressive.
Too bad there is not much of a game to it.
Had fun anyway.
Well you got a game finished ;)
It is a bit minimal, but it does have an unusual weapon!
I would have liked some more stuff (lose condition, maybe win condition, sound), but what I miss the most is a score. That would have helped a lot.
I just can't resist a good pun, so I had to try this ons. Funny picture too.
Nice game, althoug pretty soon I found the game getting too hard. I think the improvements you have planned all make sense.
I was looking for the sound rating, but then I realised you didn't make your own.
Good choice anyway, beacuse it is really moody.
Brilliant game. Great story and mood and I like the graphics.
I would have liked the graphics to be bigger, and I find the game a bit hard.
If you would make the room a smaller size with bigger graphics I think the game could be even better.
Oh and some sound !
Nice variation on tower defense game. The tactice you have to use are very original and it is a great take on the theme of course.
Very good!
This is not just an unconventional weapon, everything's unconventional.
What a weird idea with the pinball on the right side.
I like the graphics and the sounds, they go great together. Although I cannot see very clearly if the teachers are looking angry.
very very original.
Great sounds on your music and very moody. Lovely sprites too.
Lovely mood, it wasn't what I expected.
For Ludum Dare it's good if the game is easy so, you can see all content (but it could have been a LITTLE harder, maybe?)
So it was a duck that can do karate? A little sound effect on the kick would have done wonders! There is still time for it, too!
I also found the bug where you can walk off screen on the first screen and then you can't return.
HAHAHA! You found my weak spot, cat videos! I've got to give this five stars now.
Man, I'm going to spread the word about this game. It's so weird, just my cup of tea!
I also like that you used comic sans. The sign of a true rebel thinker!
Nice relaxed simple easy to understand gameplay.
I liked the music and the simple graphics, but 999 houses were to much for me. Especially when I forgot to pause the game went on a break and had a game over moment.
In the screenshots I saw blue houses, but never played long enough to see them I guess.
I think I will come back to this game to try again. It is a bit addictive.
Very very retro, so I very very like. Also very very old school hard.
I must admit I did not have the patience to try to win the game.
I found it a bit hard that the steering was on the left hand.
But overall very nice.
The idea, originality, music all top marks. I also like the very simple graphics.
It's all very impressive.
But to be fair, I didn't have the patience to go beyond two rounds. So maybe gameplay could be imporved a bit, but other than that: very impressive!
Haha, this was GREAT!
Short and not to hard, which is good on a last evening of Ludum Dare, the graphics I wasn't so sure about when I same them little, but I like them.
Funny, nice story and most original I've seen.
I love this one! It's REALLY addictive, although I find it hard, I always want to do one more try.
The graphics are so effective, including all the 'swapped mosquito'stains!
And surprisingly, the music doesn't get annoying after playing for quite a while (I would have given sound a good vote, you know?).
OOH, very original. Never seen a game like this in a Ludum Dare.
I liked it, played it through in one go. And then played again, because I realised I had not read all of the stories :D
For me, best take on the theme I have seen!
Moody, funny, nice pixel graphics.
Well done!
As simple as the idea might seem, I found it quite addictive.
It played well and was fun and I like the home made sound effects.
I think you got something here. maybe some more sounds (music!)and some more different enemies and maybe bonuses ?
Those were most definitely non regulatory bananas, much too straight!
Haha, what a weird idea! I liked that. I did find thegame very very difficult.
Also my instinct kept on saying 'you cant't jump on a banana, it won't hold!'
haha
Very very original! It was an unique gameplay for me. I've played games with sound before, but thinking about harmony was never one.
The game is also very very hard: I could go from harmony of 80 to 0 in 1 second.
And is there a way to skip tones? If I know the next tone will be the same or a dissonant I would like to skip it.
Nice one.
Making a game from an idea of Terry Pratchett is great to start with. Making it about Couterwise Wine is quite ambitious!
Understanding the game is quite hard. I got to level 4, did something wrong and the plant stopped and reloading on Kongregate is pain with the commercials, so after two tries I didn't try beyond that, sorry.
I took a look at your post jam version and that solved most issues. Might try that later on.
Well done!
Aw what a cute little killing machine.
Cool concept and looks great. I love the idea.
Too bad there is nothing when you beat all the opponents. But maybe that's just what it feels like if you killed everone else.
I'll play until I pass my gym test (or until I get a badge)!
I like this, very funny.
yay! I got a badge. Sadly I missed the message, so I don't know why.
Nice one,
With this game you've got to let go of your shooter instincts.
Therefore it takes a bit of time to get used to it, but it's fun trying and getting shot is good (for a while).
I'm pretty impressed with what you did.
It reminds me of Wacky Wheels. The sound effects are very good. Too bad my competitors would outrun me very quickly and I didn't see them again.
Maybe if the penalty of going of the track would be less harsh?
That was a lot of fun!
I really like the graphics, those are great! The gameplay is good too.
It's only missing music.
What did you use to make the graphics?
The main picture on this page is great.
I played it on windows and I think the game is really for mobile, but thanks for posting a windows version too.
Graphics are funny and good, good sound.
Based on the story and picture I expected it to be a bit more than a 'drag stuff to the circle', but good game nonetheless.
Hehe, another one making a game for an old platform. I liked the very simple control scheme and the premise. But I don't think I completely got the game. Is there a downside to always shooting? It makes my bounty go up I think, but is that bad? I ended up always shooting (which was kind of fun).
I got here because you used cats as well. It is very beautiful, great atmosphere and the music combined with the grunts of the attacker works very well! I've never been very good in rhythm games and this one is no exception :) In the end I was beating my fingers in rhythm on the keyboard so I would only have to move the right finger on a key, but even that didn't work.So I played the training a while to enjoy the music
Maybe gamers that are good at this type of game can tell you if the game is balanced or not.
Nice!
Nice game. reading the description I thought it didn't do much with the theme, but it did. It was the preview image that enticed me to play and I wasn't disappointed. It was a bit distracting to see all the console messages in the background also seeing my zombie die after I've won :). Too bad there wasn't any sound.
Heh, I didn't know how to publish properly so made a comment by mistake
@christina-antoinette-neofotistou, @le-slo Thank you. There were moments I really doubted the wisdom of making a Commodore64 game, and the game certainly isn't (yet) what I had in mind. But I'm glad I did it. Will certainly work on it after the compo. By-the-way: both your games look interesting, will try them tomorrow.
@hamrathdoesldjam: Thanks, I had trouble finding an idea as well. I have seen quite a few nice ideas, but no WOW moments yet, I think most people struggled with the theme. The idea of using a cat only came in day two, and then things started to fall into place, at least idea-wise. Game wise I struggled a lot getting something working. A lot of things were put in in the last two hours I worked on it. I knew making a C64 game would be difficult, but it was the only idea I had I liked :)
Sorry you didn't get any inspiration, but thanks a lot for stimulating me to do a C64 game. It's not good, but it is something I like to work on some more.
@soggybreadhands haha, it's hard NOT to have a retro look with a Commodore 64 game! Thanks
@luckydaisy @foumart @mashas @trifectuh Thanks for all the kind remarks. I'm pleased I made a pretty much working C64 game in three days, although it's not (yet) what I want it to be.
@tamail : did you play the online version on ib-goerp.nl or the online version on or c64emulator.111.de or did you play the downloaded one? And just to be sure: you did buy bullits (you prpbably did, but every helpdesk needs to ask these questions :)) Thanks for the compliments, I'll tell Roel you liked his music.
Well it looks like you made the main criticisms yourself, so no need to do that for me. Leaves only the compliments: great graphics, loads of nice puns, quite a lot of different characters and content. Losing limbs is a definite disadvantage, like it should be. Actually I didn't mind hjim losing his eyes, because he looked nicer that way, not so rude ;) And the musics are nice interpretations of classicals.
I edited this comment after answers from adrian0901 First try I got stuck in the tunnel and the game was stuck, but after rerunning, the game worked. I think it is a great take on the theme and I like the graphics. I'm still trying to work out the complex math, though.
@adrian0901 ah, I see now. Sorry! I will try the game again (I didnt want to rate it before i could really play it). It's been a while since I last did a Ludum Dare and some things are a little different I see.
Music was great, it reminded me of little big adventure! The different takes on the theme surprised me in a good way! Nice mood and the upgrades were a good take on the theme. They sure made a difference in playing. One of the best games I've played so far. I hope you get enough votes, because this game deserves to be rated!
Nice! Thanks for inviting me to play this. This has a real old skool vibe to it and the cats are cute as HxLL! (If HxLL is cute). It made me dedicated to eradicate all aliens. Good powerups. Maybe for added difficulty you can make those destructible? The graphics work. The game is easy, but for a Ludum Dare I don't mind. It is a shame that you don't have sound, it would have made it better.
A nice tribute to your cat.
Like the other people said: great work for making something for a NES. It played well. The music was good, the graphics simple but good enough (were those otters?). But a 5+ (or A+ or 10+, whatever) on the total package. Really really engaging storytelling! The best I've seen so far! And I think the right difficulty for a Ludum Dare. Wow!
What great graphics! And nice idea to use a voice controlled game. After I read about using a harmonica I tried to use my Commodore64 as synthesizer. That made shooting reliable, but I was never able te reload completely. It always got to a certain point and then got stuck. So I didn't come very far, but had fun trying. a FUN entry.
It's already a pretty complete package I think. The graphics are great and all go together and the atmospheric music is nice but doesn't annoy after hearing it for a long time (trying to solve the puzzles). I'm not yet at the point where I feel I really get the the mechanics. There are still levels I solve by accident. But very very nice game.
Haha, great cat game! Thumbs up!
Ha, you used the same idea as I did. But with a better game as result. Maybe some tweaking of the cost could make it better, but easy is good for a Ludum Dare. And cat puns are always a plus of course!
Nice retro easthetic. A bit Vectrix-like. Sound effects fit with that. I see that you wanted more time to tweak the difficulty. That would have helped I think (I thought it was hard to gert upgrades) but you still have a fairly nice game. I wanted more tweak time too, but my game is no way near as playable as yours. So well done. For me I would like the possibility of playing with mouse only, where one button is shoot and one is thrust, but not all mice have two buttons (and I'm not sure you can use two buttons in HTML5 games?).
One thing I noticed, it might be coincedence, but I had the idea the game got more difficult every time I played. The first time I played, I only had blue guys in wave one. Then green guys started to appear after that yellow, then red. After a while you could start and immediately have reds greens and yellows surround you. Maybe there is no complete rest of variables in the game?
Boy, there were a lot of people working on this one! The game has a great atmosphere and the 'cutscene' graphics are marvelous (a bit like the cutscene graphics from Psychonauts). I wanted to retrieve all memories, but I found it too hard. Please let me know if there is a Youtube video of this. I'd love to see how it ends (but not enough to play it while there are so many other games, I must admit).
Like the other people said: great graphics (although on my monitor also very dark, I didn't see the menu at first), the blobs are good, movement great. A bit hard for a Ludum Dare entry. Two player coop you don't see that much. I haven't tried it, but great that it's there. Already a pretty good game, I can imagine seeing it released after the compo.
The game crashed on me after I answered that I didn't know how to fight, playing as a thief: Script Game_Troop line 30: NoMethod occured. undefined method 'members' for nil:NilClass (maybe the same crash mentionedd above?)
Playing as a fighter without asking about fighting did not crash. I like the mood and graphics. You're right about the balancing though. Dying is very easy! I'm not sure how the scoring goes.
After a while I gave up, because the Game Over sequence takes so long.
@xoxo4c756c75 the crash isn't a big bother. I mentioned the crash because it might be helpful. The game is playable if you know what to avoid (and I didn't read the instructions so well the first time)
Interesting! The choice of sound is great, to really feel life ticking away. the secrets idea is very intruiging, but I'm not sure if it works in the end.
The graphics I like. Too bad it is in Unity. You get advanced effects while the rest is very sparse. I think graphics like this would be more in the right setting with a true 2D engine.
OK, mission succesful I would say. Good level design. Music enhanced the mood, so good choice. Too bad you didn't get to add sound effects. Twenty levels! I didn't play them all (yet). Got up to level 12. Level 8 stood out for me.
I had some trouble at some points, because graphics didn't always line up completely with the tiles. Like the 'upcurrents arrows' that worked almost a complete tile to the right of what you saw. Maybe a resolution kind of thing or browser compatibility (I played on windows/chrome) on a relatively small window.
I've got nothing new to add here. Like the idea (I like the non standard game size), impressed with the music. Had a bit of a hard time getting the coins to do what they should :)
It was the picture of the man that drew me here. The expression pof the man fits the game very well. I did miss sound a bit. For me the running and the expression conveyed the message, and would have been enough but I understand you wanted to put an ending on it.
Ha, this scores 5/5 for the theme! Great atmosphere as well! Good storytelling. Having two game mechanics for day and for night I like a lot. For a first game jam I fond it very impressive.
Playing the game a bit annoying at times, because there is so little room to evade the priest or the mob. I think it would help if you could see your position and teh positions of others on the map.
All in all my favorite this far.
Nice game. You didn't want to be rated for the music? For me, the game could be a bit more difficult. Once you remember which monster goes with which button you can go on indefinitely. So maybe changes of the keys or faster monsters. But for a Ludum Dare it's also nice to see all of the game.
I do like the simple controls, although I did feel that sometimes my keypresses were not recognized.
For a first game I think this is pretty good (a lot better than my first game at least). It was a bit hard to make out where the coins were. Somehow the shadows were a bit 'vague' to me?
haha, I didn't get @woofdog99 comment. I found the audio not relaxing at all! But I mean that in a good way, the slashing sound makes it into a kind of horror game. It took some time to get the hang of it. The grey haze didn't bother me (maybe my monitor has a lighter setting). I like this game!
Becoming an astronaut is hard! The funny thing about this game is: stories develop in your own head, 'what do I want to do', 'I've got a kid now, maybe I should work more' Great graphics.
I played the post compo version because I wanted to see how you wanted the game to be. Very nice graphics, good idea but very very hard especially with the almost invisible button. Good start. Some better time management next time (did you make a todo list?) and you could have a cracking game!
I really liked the title and it does good on the theme, I think
Zelda on speed and then some more! Wow, the speed is really over the top! I had no opportunity to see what happened. which is a shame because I think the pig looked great, and maybe the rest as well, because I had no time to really see what happened. I see now above that you can attack as well. There's hardly time for that. Will try it next. The graphics also look a bit glitchy, maybe the game wasn't completely finished? Not that I'm criticising, you can hardly call my game finished.
But I did manage to lose and win!
I must commend you for having an Exit button. a lot of games made in Unity dont have that.
Neat graphics, nice storylines (or maybe not NIC-nice), great atmosphere. A lot of content! I dabbled a little in Gameboy development (not during the Ludum Dare, though!) and I'm impressed you did this in one JAM. And cats are always great of course!
