LD28 — You Only Get One

Beaver's Last Log by hadesfury 2013-12-17T03:11:00

I think this game was well-scoped for the competition. It was small enough that you were able to focus on the art and sound, and the couple puzzles you made were fun to play. I enjoyed the comic-style cut scenes and the humor.

Extreme Curling by Enneract 2013-12-17T04:36:00

Ha ha. Hilarious description in the play store. I approve of your humor. Unfortunately, the game crashes as soon as I open it on my Galaxy Nexus. Let me know if there's some trick to getting it to work, or if an updated version is pending in the play store, and I'll come back to play it. : )

Volcano Explorer by Gabriel 2013-12-17T04:22:00

Hey, game art looks cool and I would like to play but I get a dropbox 404 error when I click on the link. I tried to find a link on your blog but there wasn't one that I could see :( I will look back later, hopefully it will get re-linked.

The Social Avarice of an Adult Mayfly by Several 2013-12-17T02:58:00

I would like to have more interaction with the party-goers. As it is, there are only a few that you can interact with each round, which makes most of the game a frantic search for them. That could be good, but I think the reaction-time-flying aspect of the game is not as fun as the planning stage. It would be cool to emphasize the score you're getting in real-time.

The Chipper by Avichal 2013-12-17T03:42:00

I liked the one shot mechanic, and it forced me to be a lot more stealthy. However, sometimes the shot dissapeared completely, or no clipped through walls which made the game harder. Looks cool and was fun to play.

Monopathy by azurenimbus 2013-12-17T03:37:00

This game was perfect. Perfect learning curve, perfect level design, and an amazing idea. I loved how much thought was put into the level design and gameplay mechanics.

That one tiny Island by Cipher 2013-12-17T03:52:00

I really like the combination of simulation-strategy economy-investment and stacking physics. I would like more feedback on the game state, in some form other than the stats at the top of the window. I felt as if I could just build endlessly and I didn't feel much of a sense of accomplishment when anything happened. This game is complex enough that it could do with a lot of playtesting and balancing (as you know), but it shows a lot of promise for an early prototype!

World Of One by bigteddy 2013-12-17T21:34:00

Welcome to your first Ludum submission! You used Lua?? Wow. That's not very common. You realize this already, but since you ran out of time, it would be better to cut some corners in the dev process next time. Networking multiplayer takes a lot of dev time--which you clearly understand http://i.imgur.com/Ta0FPo5.jpg

Unity is awesome for quick game prototypes, so you probably could have gotten something a little more polished if you created a 1 player unity platformer.

Luminess by iiechapman 2013-12-17T04:02:00

I wasn't sure what the colored walls did, and I got to a level (this is probably the bug) where there's simply a room with no exits. I like the concept of "echolocation" or "pinging your surroundings" to navigate. Given more time to develop levels, I'm sure this would be much more fun.

brainstorm by cardboard 2013-12-17T04:06:00

I didn't play the game because the game wasn't packaged neatly. It required installing additional source code, like pygame.

Only One World by Calahagus 2013-12-17T04:02:00

I really liked this game. I was a little shaky on what each choice did but I finally made it to another world! There isn't just one!

RetroBall by timothyolt 2013-12-17T04:29:00

I liked the gameplay, but it was frustrating to restart the game each time I died. :P

Last Call by addNothing 2013-12-17T04:18:00

There is no link to the game, so I was unable to play.

One Strike by Jyrkface 2013-12-17T04:56:00

This game was really really fun. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer! I don't think there's a way of gracefully exiting the game also, just FYI

YOGOS - YouOnlyHaveOneShield by Muciojad 2013-12-17T04:36:00

A fun shooter. I found that the regular gun was not able to damage the enemies, and that I pretty much survived from one powerup to another or by crashing into enemies. I especially like the fact that my character started spinning mad fast when I got a powerup. It looked really cool.

One True God by kidder 2013-12-17T04:51:00

This is a very ambitious concept, and shows promise. It was created in a very short amount of time, clearly, but if you have more time to fix it up in the future I would gameplay testing. For me, the learning curve was very steep and it was difficult to tell when certain things would happen. How much is "good pay" for a bishop? Do bishops leave their posts when you train them? How much do bishops improve when you train them? How can I make money?

Our Final Chance by DesignerNap 2013-12-17T07:00:00

I liked the setup and feeling of panic, but gameplay essentially revolved around holding down the move button and mashing the interact button (until I prematurely launched the missle). I liked the art style and think that it could be expanded to revolve around legit info gathering (asteroid speed, position etc.)

Press R to Reset Rope by TheChris 2013-12-17T05:06:00

This is a really cool concept, but I can't seem to easily attach the rope to things, which makes the game a little tedious. I spent a lot of time trying to get it to stick to the things I wanted it to stick to. In spite of that, I found the game hilarious! Nice job with the audio.

There Can Only Be One... Ninja! by JeeshusChrist 2013-12-17T06:39:00

I thought the game was fun for a couple of minutes. After about 10 levels I got bored, mostly because the AI tends to charge you even when you have the shuriken. In addition, its really hard to see the shuriken and who has it. However, I think this would be a really fun multiplayer game but I didn't play that part.

The Last Realm by aviktorov 2013-12-17T03:03:00

I played the game versus Easy AI. It would be nice to have the countdown to each wave on the bottom of the screen where the rest of the purchasing information is to make it easier to look for(because I switched back and forth between them a lot). Also, I think there could have been more feedback when purchasing the ships and a way of clearly indicating my budget for each wave. Every unit in the game was clearly identifiable and nicely made. The objective was clear having read your instructions. In terms of game balance, I never won on easy mode and found it hard to develop new strategies to help me achieve victory.

You Only Get One Planet by dinos 2013-12-17T05:55:00

It doesn't seem to be loading for me. I'm not sure if it's a problem with my computer or the game, but I'm running the latest version of chrome with flash enabled.

Travesty by Jon Fischer 2013-12-17T04:18:00

Sorry man, I downloaded all the things but the application would not run. I tried re-downloading, but no luck. The description looked good though.

Rue by david_laskey 2013-12-17T06:00:00

I like the concept of a game you need to play multiple times, but I don't think this is the way to go about it. It is tedious to play over and over, with different letters to piece together the dialogue.

Disposable by Zuige 2013-12-17T05:05:00

This game sounded really cool, but it required me to login to bitbucket which was interesting. After I had logged in, it said that access was denied.

Escape from Planet Brobulon by Arcane Noise 2013-12-17T06:09:00

I would enjoy this game more if it was top-down 2D, with controls that feel less sluggish.

Candy Runner by AtomicVikings 2013-12-17T22:04:00

This game was really fun! I think the jump can use some physics adjustment. For one, it feels a little weird to instantly fall back down when you let go of your key. When you hit a "key-change cake" (as I now name them) I think it would be better to let the person continue pressing their current key (if they are in the middle of the air) instead of deactivating the jump mid-way through. The game play was great.

The Stingy Chef by bunnyhero 2013-12-17T07:05:00

Great game! I enjoyed it.

Medieval Fantasy Island by aayars 2013-12-17T06:14:00

The graphics captivated me to play this game. I dig the DnD mood. It got tedious after a while (I got to the flame skeleton). I realize that the point was to have only one spell and as magnificent as this game looks, it could have been better in how the enemies progress or providing a form of achievement for defeating an enemy(maybe the various spells I can cast as a reward).

Light Escape by grozamorei 2013-12-17T06:16:00

This game is interesting as a concept, but it's too difficult to get anywhere. I would recommend making it easier to dodge, and making the jump more responsive. The feeling of a jump is the most important part of a platformer.

faif by Beavl 2013-12-17T06:13:00

I really like this game. It took me a bit to 'get' it, even with the instructions (my fault not yours) but after I got it, I think its really fun. I can imagine this being really cool with some more features (1 or 2 more tiles types?). Awesome!

Last Squadron by Chaoseiro 2013-12-17T04:11:00

I had fun jetting around, but it was a bit unclear how to proceed from the first area like chabuduo said. I think I crouched by the middle of the floor and an upgrade/weapon select showed up, then it faded to the next level. From then on I was mercilessly killed by enemies. I had a blast!

Monogon by Rscar 2013-12-17T06:22:00

I liked this game. It had solid gameplay and I liked the graphics also. I'm not too good at these sort of things so I gave up after the first save point (?). Still great game.

The Ninja by kingofzombies 2013-12-17T06:44:00

Download link appears to be broken (Google drive unavailable)

One Bullet by AshkoreDracson 2013-12-17T07:17:00

I downloaded the OSX version, but it was a rar file, which I am not sure what to do with, and I ended up not being able to play it.

Don't Lose It! by OneDee 2013-12-17T07:25:00

Great gameplay. It was very fun, and nerve-wracking to play.

Last of Kind by Mr.Cassels 2013-12-17T07:23:00

I had fun playing this game. The attack mechanism was a little hard to get used to but it was fun once I figured it out. I didn't understand the various weapons on the start screen. The objective was clear having read the instructions but the game could communicate the objective more clearly.

Drop Down by Me4502 2013-12-17T03:24:00

I liked the implementation of the theme as well as the general game play. However, the controls, especially the crouch jump (requiring you to move and crouch and jump at the same time) were a little hard to pull off, although this could have been on purpose. I also did not figure out what the 3rd weapon did, although it looked like a camera?

You have only one... by teamMightyFingers 2013-12-17T07:32:00

The graphics are great, but I'm a little confused about the gameplay

Afterwife by Bribz 2013-12-17T06:02:00

I only got as far as the second level, looks like a solid platformer but there is something strange about the 'glide' that doesn't feel right, I can't quite place exactly what it is, sorry. Ambi, I did not have that problem on windows.

BULLETS ARE FATAL by pele 2013-12-17T21:55:00

This game has a lot of potential, as long as the bugs get ironed out. When I was playing, I often got confused as to which surfaces I could jump through (the wooden catwalks were particularly pernicious). I would make sure that it is very clear where what objects you can pass through, and what objects you can't. It's fun to play, but frustrating to die because of something I didn't intend. I would also like to see the jumping and movement physics tweaked a little. Right now, the keyboard controls feel sluggish (I haven't tested it on a controller, but I assume it's probably better on that). Other than those few things, I think it's a great game! I loved the music. Short and sweet. I must've played at least 10 rounds.

Lestac by almightysuit 2013-12-17T07:16:00

The game is so beautiful, and the music is awesome. The gameplay is great, and responsive. The only thing lacking is captivating level design, but that takes time, and user testing, so it's understandable that the game doesn't feel super complete in that regard.

Michxioperz, there is no need to rate the graphics. Simply leave it as "NA".

fued: there was actually a great deal of thought behind it. We decided to do a physical game because it gave us much more time to play test and think of concepts, and didn't force us to spend hours coding. We went through many iterations of the game during play testing to eventually arrive at this version. In one of the earlier veraions, the point of the game was to control a blindfolded person by voice, and have them walk around the room and do some action that was communicated down the chain through charades. It ended up not having as much interaction, because once the orator understood the pantomimes, there wasn't much work to do. In this version, the ghost is forced to draw something bit-by-bit on the person in front of them (it's hard to feel a complex drawing on your back), which naturally divides the communication into small chunks in which everyone has a role.

Cappelnord: we intentionally let the actor see the drawing so the team could work to revise incorrect drawings. If a drawing ends up not being what the actor is trying to pantomime, we've noticed playtester actors often shake their heads frantically, trying to indicate to the orator that something has gone wrong. Now the actor is faced with the job of explaining what has gone wrong to the orator using only gestures. It would be interesting to try a version where no one could see the drawing, but it would mean that there is no feedback loop (ie, communication would be one-directional, just like telephone). Since the game only has 4 links in the chain, it would be a very quick game without that feedback loop.

Speaking of feedback, thanks for the great comments everyone! It sounds like many of the people who've had a chance to play it have enjoyed themselves. Let us know if you have any other rule-change suggestions.

For anyone having trouble rating us: leave Audio and Graphics as NA (Not Applicable). Mood may be NA as well, depending on how you interpret it.
