LD24 — Evolution

Evo Dash by Karel 2012-08-27T04:24:00

I really liked this idea, actually. I find that indefinite games usually get too repetitive for me; you always have to spend several minutes in every run as it builds up difficulty, before it finally gets interesting. With this game the events are always in different orders, leading to a more interesting beginning/middle/end. Good job!

It got really laggy for me as it progressed though, not sure if that's just me.

Cows VS Wolves by FatalCaca 2012-08-30T01:57:00

Cool! Controls took a bit of time to pick up. As others have said, cool concept, slow gameplay. But if you were to continue working on this I think there are some simple things that could really help with the pace. Being able to move multiple tiles in one click (ala most tactics game) would speed things up enormously, for instance.

Anyway, this is a good idea for sure. A TBS game where you create units not through 'factories' or resources, but through the interaction of existing units. Just needs polish.

The Window by Andy Go 2012-09-04T16:02:00

I had fun with it once I realized that you can survive the meteors with more people. First play through got blowed up, second play through overpopulation killed all the sheep and then humans starved, third play through got it right.

I have to say though that putting the "Back" button so far away is torture considering how fast commands need to be given. D:

Wouldn't have predicted my favorite game so far would be a TD. Very impressive!

Was it that bad to play? D:

Thanks for the feedback! This is true, sometimes based on the map you start with it can be really hard. For what it's worth, it should get easier after the first generation, as the game will give you stats that worked better the last time around. At least, that's the theory. :\

Yeah, I definitely need to learn to give users more feedback in my games. :S

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

LEVOLUTION! by xk 2012-08-27T04:07:00

As others have said, didn't see the theme. But the controls were smooth and the levels were varied, and that's more than half the battle with platformers. :P

The Chamber by yajtheman 2012-08-30T02:08:00

Hey, not bad mechanics/ideas! Of course the pity is that the game ends before they're used in really interesting ways. D:

No Tap Enis by Nile 2012-08-30T01:33:00

As Cake&Code says, it would've been good if the whole width of the stick could hit circles. As is, getting bigger is actually a hindrance, not a boon, since it simply becomes harder to judge where the middle is.

That said, props for infusing sexual innuendo with basic geometric shapes. :P

LD25 — You are the Villain

Dark Dream by eShredder 2012-12-17T11:35:00

Great aesthetics, clever way of demonstrating health. I finished the game, but wished there was some way of measuring progress; perhaps when you return to the altar you would be shown the percentage of collectables left.

Prison Break! by tnch4_ 2012-12-17T11:52:00

Surprisingly interesting. Generally you can find a place where you just hold 'shoot' and are invulnerable, but the catch is that you then have to go over and collect the hats while avoiding incoming guards.

I think there's way more room to explore in terms of the level design.

Your Mind Hates You by Peltast 2012-12-28T22:01:00

Thanks! I've never had anyone refer to my code as fun! I found coding it to be fun, so maybe it carried over. You're right, some keywords are things I didn't get around to implementing in acceptable statements ("clock" for instance). Some are there, but in obscure ways.

The entire list of acceptable commands isn't actually visible in the source, since I used an embedded text file for that. If for some odd reason anyone's curious, I added an "Assets" download which contains it. It's not very flattering, but oh well.

Anyway I completely, 100% agree with all of the feedback here; the game is way too hard and unresponsive. This was my first text-based game, and I took the task of making a good text-parser way too lightly.

The Fall and Rise of Rome: Patient 0 A.D. by Prelucid 2012-12-17T11:25:00

Awesome graphics and idea! The game is a bit unclear though with spacing/when an enemy takes damage.

The Princess Killer by jahlgren 2012-12-17T10:59:00

Aaaaaagh, I got her to like 1/20th of her health and then ran out of time. :( Maybe I'll try again later.

It's hard, but the only thing I would change is to add a little bit of reach to your attack. The number of little guys was fine, you just had to kite them a lot, which I found kinda fun.

Pet Mr. Snugglebutt by JoeProgram 2012-12-17T14:34:00

Oh my god, I loved this! Took me a bit to understand how to properly pet Mr Snugglebutt, but once I did I really enjoyed this. Very fun idea.

Hopesington by Norgg 2012-12-17T11:09:00

Wow, really nice. It was fun just messing with the little ecosystem, finding the best way to pick off citizens without being spotted, keeping enough citizens so new people are added, and so on.

Closest I've gotten so far is 93% glory. Really good job!

BREAK! by LucaPavone 2012-12-17T10:25:00

Very nice! Given the story, finishing the character sprites would have reeeaaally helped with the mood. When he starts talking about humans vs monsters, one can't help but be struck by the fact they're all just circles. Oh well.

But seriously, I had fun and played to the end. Was hoping the leaning mechanic would be used more during the advanced levels, but otherwise enjoyed it.
