Please, please make more!
Defense Grid Jr. I love this!!
I could play this game for hours. Very relaxing.
OH GOD! This game is crazy good!
I accidentally clicked on the JPG and stared at it for a wile before noticing I wasn't playing the game. =) The game is much better!
Although it didn't register a win, I'll always know that I conquered the universe! Started out slow, but I eventually steamrolled my enemies. Fun!
My click finger hurts. =)
Nice minimal Mario. Good mechanics.
Awesome job. This is one of my favorites!!
The best strategy is definitely to capture the bases in the middle of the map to spawn your blue legion. This brilliantly captures the minimalist theme and manages to pack in a lot of gameplay. Good job.
Awesome! This is about as minimalist as you can get with a platformer. Nice level of difficulty.
Addicting!
Unique gameplay. Awesome mood. Kept urging the man to move faster!
Simply beautiful.
Hey this is a pretty cool game. It's simple, but you've managed to pack a lot of fun in there. Good job.
I made it to the second level! =) Nice idea.
Love the artwork. Very challenging. Would like to see a very simple first level to get the hang of the mechanics.
"No graffiti permitted after 5pm." =)
OMG! My fingers are not up to the challenge!
Hehe. I need that. =)
The difficulty ramps up perfectly. Found myself grinning wider with delight with each successive round. Great job!
Very satisfying. Well done!
Perfect amount of description to engage your brain. It fit the theme very well.
Difficult, but fun!
Thanks, Perry. I see you also went with CreateJS. Congrats on finishing up! I knew going in that it was going to be rough. Having never attempted LD (or any game compo for that matter), I didn't fully appreciate the need for pre-planning, rigorous time management, etc. Didn't do any pre-work... just began with that accursed, cold cursor blinking at me in that vacuous, empty text editor. (*shudders*)
@zanzindorf "Un Chien Andalou" OMG =(
@Perry @Ludipe @netguy204 Your feedback really helped me to stick with this thing until it was done (including a post-mortem). Thank you!
@Richard Matey You can now shave his beard. But I don't know if this is a dream or nightmare.
@thatwhichis :o
@ahm99 @vilya @MinionStudios Actual gameplay (what little there is) and win screen (technically) now available in post-jam version.
@goerp He starts with a smile, but looses it if you hit his nose or eyes too hard. Your goal is to keep him smiling through the whole ordeal. =)
Thank you, everyone! This has been a blast!
This is incredible! Great game.
A good bit of strategy here for such a minimalistic game.
Really captures the feel of the old Atari games. Now because of you, I'm so nostalgic for my 2600, that I'm going to have to dig it out of my closet tonight and play E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, and a little Barnstorming! Great job!
Cannonball!!!
WTF!?
Very nice vole animation! Hurry up and make more levels!!
Very suspenseful! Never know if you can reach the next treasure. Well done.
Crapped my pants laughing!! Can't see though tears of exaltation! My sides hurt.
Thank you all! I really appreciate you taking the time to play and provide feedback. The slippery controls were my attempt to mimic the trackball the original Missile Command used. As muramasa observed, you can control the cursor more precisely with the mouse by holding down the LMB (this is an undocumented debugging tool accidentally left in the game). There wasn't time for much play testing or balancing, but I do intend to continue working on the game and release a post-compo version in the next week or so.
I just released a "win condition bug" fix. Several people have mentioned that you can essentially play forever by parking the cursor above one of your guns and firing missiles as needed to protect it. The fix gradually increases the explosion size of the incoming missiles every level after level 6. Please let me know if this is against the rules and I'll put back the original version.
Reminds me of my job. =(
Hypnotic. Pure awesomeness.
Snorrrrrt!
Was that a tapeworm?
Really difficult, but you can get into a flow. Simple and addictive. Well done.
I always suspected I was a robot.
I love the simplicity and the difficulty... easy to learn, difficult to master. Well done!
I couldn't get past Pong!! Most games, I'd start off 0-2 (and went downhill from there) simply because my paddle wasn't fast enough to get to the ball. Didn't seem fair!! =) It seems to me the only way to score points on the AI was to get the ball going fast enough that he couldn't catch up with it, either. But most of my attempts to do so ended up in me missing the ball. I think it'd be more fun if the paddles moved a bit faster and if the AI made mistakes now and then.
Here's some good insight on the original Pong from "Racing the Beam" (and elsewhere): "Effective game AI needs to simulate good, 'intelligent' human behavior. But convincing AI also needs to simulate certain types of *unintelligent* human behavior, in the form of mistakes that make play more fun. The AI in the Robot Pong games does this by simulating both the correct placement of the paddle and the occasional imperfection inherent to a real human opponent."
You may have built this into your AI, but I didn't see it in the 5 minutes I played. The AI seemed to track the ball exactly and only "made a mistake" if the ball was moving too fast for it to keep up. Maybe that was your intention... to force the player to master the angled shot. I think, though, it would be more fun if you sped the paddles up a bit and allowed the AI to sometimes make a mistake.
VICTORY! I made it to the chopper! Nice mechanic of switching between drone and soldier.
Darn that cursed crying baby to heck!! This is a good start. Are you planning to do a post-compo version?
Once again, time got away from me. The result: horrible gameplay. We had plans for multiple turret types and upgrades, maze building, and more. I just didn't deliver (again).
I feel really bad that the scaling I chose for the game, and the overall mechanics, didn't highlight the tremendous artwork that Jason created... the stuff he made is incredible. You just can't see it 'cause I scrunched it down and all detail was obliterated.
I also feel bad for the people who play this game. You are heroes in my book. I salute you. I will do better next time!
This would be a perfect mobile game! I seemed to always get the middle taken care of, but left the sides to tower skyward with no hope of tearing them down. The guitar strumming sound was inspired. Addicting gameplay. Well done!
LMAO!! Difficulty kind of ramps up quickly there at the end. =) The game lulls you into a nice contemplative, zen-like mood... then destroys your world in an instant! That Santa is going to have one heck of a headache after catching all of those gifts with his forehead. Well done. I'd like to see a reindeer fall from the rafters every once in a while. =)
