It's cute, and I loved the potatoes, but collusion with walls didn't seem to work properly sometimes and I got trapped in the bottom right corner on the third or fourth level.
I really like this game! But then again I'm biased when it comes to simple rhythm games where you go around in a circle. =) Relaxing, endless, and I love the subtle cues you put in in terms of the speed of the sweeping arm when a level's about to start. I wish there was some audio feedback for pressing space though!
This game is hard, but fair and very, very fun. Great job!
Oh my gosh it's like a mini SimTower. Downloading it now!
Okay, so I was wrong. It's not just a mini SimTower! I love the game, but unfortunately it crashes whenever my soldiers attack. =(
It *is* very hard, but definitely very fun!
This game is excellent. I really love the way you twisted the tower defense genre. Definitely very creative and fits the theme well.
I actually thought that your loading screen was part of the game since I couldn't see the bar moving, so I thought the game was frozen at first. I really like the mood/music/plot/mechanics/theme but I had to give up at the waterfall level. The controls were sticking and sometimes weren't responding, which was pretty frustrating combined with the challenging jumps.
This game is hilarious!
Okay, this game is a *lot* of fun! Great job!
I can't say I "get it", but I definitely really like what you guys tried to create here.
Love the color change mechanic.
Okay. Best game in jam, hands down.
Can I have a hint on what to do after the door shows up?
Okay, I figured it out. This was amazing. I really like it. =)
Turns out it's really hard to laugh and not blink at the same time.
Cute game. Simple, addictive, and probably the first time I've seen platforms all moving diagonally on a screen at once. =)
Once I realized that cars can't hurt me this became the Best Game EVER.
Great game! Can't wait to see where you take it after compo. One thing that would help, I think, is to introduce new mechanics more slowly once you have more levels. It did get a little confusing playing with new mechanics without really fully understanding older ones yet.
Loved the dialogue!
Great game! Simple, polished, challenging an gorgeous graphics. Loved it.
Simple, brilliant level design. Looks like what you wanted to do this time worked!
Really nice game. Great level design!
Cute little game. Just the perfect length.
Very nicely done. I love how you completely change the way the game feels just by making the player character a triangle. Only complaint is that enemy respawns were instant, meaning that killing enemies (which is hard!) is not actually that rewarding in terms of survival.
Nice take on the block pushing game!
Nice "one button" game! I love the scoring system and how it incorporates simplified versions of ideas like calculated and acceptable losses.
Love the combo system. Is it actually possible to one-shot all the apples in every level?
Wow, this game is awesome. I love the idea and the puzzle and the fact that it all takes place on the same grid. Great job!
Found you on Twitter! I was glad that I found it on Twitter and not here, because it really added to the experience not knowing what the heck was going on and having to figure everything out myself.
I think you have a wonderful RPG parody here. Throughout the demon king battle I was like "man I hope he put a final form and cheesy dialogue in there!" and I was not disappointed. Bravo!
I really like the way you implemented the spinning weapons. The fact that you don't take damage from simple collusion with enemies gives it a lot more depth.
I like the feel of the game, but having the inventory and the tree cutting and stuff really broke the minimalism mood, especially since they don't seem necessary for the completion of the game.
This is amazing. Love how just tilting the game a little makes the visual presentation so refreshing.
Doesn't work when I double click it and when running in console/command prompt it says I can't find or load main class Buried.jar. =(
This is a really solid game. The mechanics are simple but fresh, and the way the double jumping and the horse add to the game are simply brilliant. Usually double jumping is really just a key for a lock, but the way you implemented combat means that it's an extra, risky tactical option. With the horse it also opens up things like flanking and strategy. Really well done! My only complaint is that the key opening the door in stages where you kill all enemies is kind of redundant, and sometimes breaks the flow by making you backtrack to get it. But I can also see how it's easier to do that programming-wise.
Really cute game! It's harder than it looks, which is wonderful. With a little upgrade system I can imagine it being the next popular defense-type game!
Absolutely hilarious, unexpected and wonderful.
So much wholesome fun! I almost forgot about the fictional mutant cat army murdering everything I love and cherish outside my barricaded doors!
Brilliant. What looks like a crappy solitaire rip off is actually an ingenious puzzle game wrapped in nostalgia. Nicely done!
Oh hey, I think I recall seeing you talking about this game on Twitter. I'm glad you finished it because it's amazing. I definitely did not expect a "Tetris derivative" to be so much fun and refreshing. The mechanic, the story, the voiceover and the execution were all top notch. Definitely one of my favorites this LD48 so far!
But I thought potatoes grew from booze!
I like the idea and once I got the hang of it it was pretty fun, but I think the background is a little too distracting. Covered up some of the dialogue too.
Great platformer. Gave me some Cave Story and Shift vibes, in a good way.
Nice little game. Love the music change when you press space!
Hint for people w/ wall jumping troubles: do a wall jump right before you hit the apex of your first jump.
Of all the LD48 games where the core mechanic is "you lose something after every stage" (and there are so many of them!) yours I think is the best. The game is fun, it's excellently done and while all the other games ended with you losing your items/abilities I did not see Chapter 2 coming at all. The wall jump is a little awkward because your vertical momentum doesn't reset when you wall jump (you need to reset the character's vertical speed to 0 when you do a double/wall jump because otherwise if the character is falling you won't get much added height) but that's really the only complaint I have with the game.
I did not expect the ending. Well done!
I have to admit, at first I thought "okay so it's a Night Skies clone with Bastion-style voiceovers". But then I started changing into a square, and it was a crazy mix between precision platforming and Sonic-style high momentum rolling. The final level really surprised me and put another lovely twist on it, and the voiceover really added to the mood. It's a really cool game, despite some hiccups like the vertical screen transitions being sudden and choppy, and I hope that you guys will be able to take this concept further post-jam.
Cute game! Started out thinking it would be very easy, but I was definitely wrong...
Really like the art and the concept! Nicely done! (PS Rarity is best pony.)
The first thing that really impressed me was the level change effects. But then as I got more into the game the level design really stood out too. I think of all the "change colors / things you can pass through" games I've played this LD yours is definitely the best.
Is there an executable / web version? Or do we have to compiler the source?
Great first programming project! It's definitely fun and more challenigng than expected!
Found this on the Stencyl forums. Loved it! My art is so terrible and magical.
Great game! Nice, relaxing, also fun. Have an upvote!
Simple game, but a really refreshing take on the concept.
Great game! I love how you guys were able to convey so much gruesome violence with by just moving one or two pixels on three pixel characters. Also, the diversity of enemy visuals on just changing the colors of three pixels? Brilliant!
This is one of those games that makes me happy we have Ludum Dare.
No potato for me. It's a cute little game though!
To be continued?!!!! Noooooo!
I have to say I found this exceptionally hilarious.
@Saturnyn Thank you! Yeah it's pretty hard, even I have trouble beating it! =)
@Mark: That's totally weird, because it's actually supposed to go off when you jump! I think it's another case of Flash sound lag, unfortunately. =(
@aare Yeah, I hear ya! I just got one of those "omg 5000 fonts" packages and I was dazzled, so I just picked some random ones and chose the best. Turns out having so many fonts isn't a good idea! Think I'll stick to the Fixel font next time.
@qdowngames Challenge mode is actually "normal" since the game was balanced around it, but yes I found it too hard which is why I made "relaxed" mode. =)
@cwilloughby Yeah, I think the menu was the weakest part of the game. It was hard keeping it minimalist but also keyboard only. Definitely something I needed to spend more time on if I had more.
@Beldarak Take a look at the gameplay video! That's why I made it. =)
@Zim: Thank you!
@Zim Yeah, the timing is really tight on the last three levels. That said, it *is* still possible to jump too rapidly.
@zhenshin Hooray! With like 2000 games out there that's high praise! =)
Thanks for all the feedback, guys!
@Exclamation Mark: That's a great idea! It makes perfect sense!
@EatenAlive3: You're the first person I've ever heard saying that! =D
@Taro Omiya: There were two reasons why I didn't put in a background music or at least a metronome. First was that there wasn't time. But the bigger issue for me is that Flash seems to like having music lag on slower computers (even now I'm hearing from people that the sounds don't play at the right time) and I really don't know how to deal with that. Making a game with in-synced background music is one thing I really want to figure out how to do though. :3
Really relaxing game, though I had trouble getting into it at first since I wasn't sure if I should destroy everything or keep moving. Once I let go of the "must do perfect run" mentality though it worked quite well.
It's pretty fun! My only complaint is that the two major mechanics (avoid potatoes and collect hearts) often clash because potatoes spawn at the same place where there is a row of hearts, so whether or not you go for the hearts you end up dying.
This game got me motion sick after about a minute even though I never get motion sick playing games, but besides that it's a really cool and refreshing game. Love the control mechanics, but I think it'd be nice to have a version where the screen is fixed as well because it's a shame that some people can't experience the game.
That was really nice. Good learning curve and mechanics.
Nice, simple one button game. I like it!
It was a little frustrating seeing my super awesome jumpers get stumped by a blue hurdle, but overall this is a great and really innovation game!
I don't know what is going on but it reminds me of old Geocities web sites. Also adorable cats. Can't write coherent sentence your game destroyed my higher brain functions. Meow.
Really liked the sudden switch in mode. Cute lil' game. =)
Only 3090. I am bad at combos.
Found your game from the Stencyl forums! I love the potato graphics. They're so adorable.
Great little game. It's definitely my favorite adventure game from this LD so far.
I have to say I have no idea what I was doing. I just clicked on pieces and they murdered other pieces and then everyone died. I think that's a very good metaphor on war.
Really liked it! The only problem is that it was impossible for me to get past a Tier 3 gatekeeper legion because I already did everything but I still wasn't strong enough for it and had no gold left. I think a way to grind or a better level generation algorithm would make this game even better.
Great level design, and definitely a fun and challenging twist on the lock and key puzzle genre. Well done!
Brilliant game! Loved the different modes and how the difficulty gradually went up. By the way I found your game through the IndieGames.com blog. =)
I just want to say I love your icon so much. <3
Really liked this game. Loved the lock/key mechanics and the balance of firepower between different shapes. Hope you guys take this further with more powers / varied level designs too.
I had quite a bit of fun playing this game, though I have to say that having the player character wrap around the screen instantly but not the holes kind of messed with my head a lot.
It's a nice little game, though I'd like a little more feedback on how much shit there can be before I lose.
I really liked this game! The difficulty spikes around the 4 minute mark but overall I think the difficulty curve is pretty nice. One complaint is that I can't select multiple blocks as once. It looked like I was able to do it, but when I let go of the mouse nothing changes. Great game overall though.
Really cool particle effects; definitely added the the minimal setting.
I really liked it! At first I have to say I thought it was just a normal platformer, but then I realized that it's actually a really nice physics puzzle game.
This is the best game. I don't know if I can say much more.
Great concept/mechanic! It's reminiscent of a few Flash stealth games but the way you combined all the mechanics made it very novel.
I seem to have encountered the same bug Hexicube had. Skipped the level with the cheat and the rest of the game was pretty cool.
I love how we had the same concept and almost identical core mechanic in our games, but we implemented them so very differently. I really love the minimalistic way you approached this. The disk was brilliant.
Cute game. Much more difficult than I expected!
Got a weird bug where Carol's ending had two texts imposed on each other. Think I chose 3 nights, don't shoot dog, give password, walk away, visit mother, and don't look in shed.
I had a hell of a time with this game. Loved the surprises and the connections between the characters. I'd like to see all the endings, but don't know how long I'd spend finding them...
I expected a tower defense game. I got something way better.
@lulzfish_4: When you say "100" do you mean 10 actual seconds, or until the timer reaches 10.00? The game measures time by the timer and not actual time, and that stage has the biggest time offset.
Cute game. The voice saying "Feed Me Words" is both creepy and adorable.
It's... like one of those ero anime games, except harder! (Pun totally intended.)
Really solid game. The beginning felt really slow but once the pieces met at the center of the board, wow that was fun.
I'm giving this 5 in graphics because my doodles are totally awesome.
Kidding aside, I love how the whole "draw something" mechanic becomes so fresh after you impose the 10 second time limit. It's much harder but also much more fun.
Solid defense game, and I liked the little night time monologues. The game crashed on me when I lost at Day 10 though.
