8-Bit? 4-Bit! by Polar 2013-05-02T18:53:00
It's a very buggy game. Jumping doesn't always work and I always die in the second level. It does have a nice concept though. Good job with entering the competition. ;)

Nice game! I like the lightning effects, although I think they should appear more often. (for the impatient players. :p)
Nice game. Multiplayer looked nice. :)
Really good game! I loved the fact that you can grow bigger and stronger. (and also more vulnerable!) Second boss was really hard, but I'll try again soon! Good job! :)
Great work! I like the story and the graphics. I encountered the same bug as theRestlessTaxidermists: I wasn't able to move my head vertically in the beginning. I solved it by hitting escape. (options menu)
Good job! :)
The gameplay itself wasn't really that interesting anymore after a few levels, but it was still a fun game. Such a shame there isn't any sound! (Although I saw sound files in ZIP file?)
Good job.
It's really a different approach to the theme. I quite liked it! Nice concept. :)
Good job!
Nice game! I found the keyboard controls a bit tricky though. It has great looks, the physics are nice and I liked to have to pile enemies! Good job!
Thanks for the comments! Guns can break chests now. :) (Just in time!)
Thanks for the comments so far! It's nice to read them. Will probably expand this game after the Ludum Dare. ^^
Awesome game! I simply LOVE the graphics and the simplicity of the game! Perhaps some sort of repair feature would be nice. Also: the humor is really good!
One of my favourite entries yet! :)
Nice game. I love the art style. It was fun to play against my friend. Perhaps you could add some music to make it more interesting. Also a sound effect when you hit each other would be nice. Good job!
It was fun to play! It was a bit hard though, so I couldn't pass Wave 7. :p Good job!
Fun little platoformer! I like the really simple graphics and the sound effects. It was a nice challenge to reach the end! Good job. :)
To be absolutely honest: I didn't really enjoy playing it. It's an error & try game, but you could have made it more interesting by adding some kind of light element. (example: a flashlight you can use for a short time) The audio was alright and so were the graphics. ;)
Good job with finishing your LD entry!
This sure is an interesting concept! The looks and gameplay are fitting the theme nicely. I liked it, although I think it can be a bit too frustrating when you're lost.
Good job!
Very cool game! Too bad that some levels are impossible to finish. I think a scoring system would be nice too. (like: how much time/turns do you need to finish the level)
Good job! :)
Nice game. Was a a bit hard, but the graphics are very clean. The game is also very minimalistic. :) Good job.
Congratulations with finishing your first Ludum Dare! It's gameplay wise kind of basic, but I like the fact that you get- or lose features. The ageing was a great part of the game!
Good job.
Nice little game. Too bad there's no winning-system. You might want to make the movement a bit faster.
Fun game overall!
Nice concept! Too bad it's getting a bit boring after a few levels. We love the graphics! Perhaps some music would be nice though!
Good job. :)
I like the concept, although I´m not sure how to find out which choice is right. It´s just a gamble, right?
Congrats with finishing your first LD. ;)
This isn't really fun to play. That's because there's no goal and no challenge. But it is minimalistic, the graphics are alright and the controls are feeling nice.
I hope you'll expand the game later on. I'll definitely give it a try then! ;)
I love the (simple) concept! Graphics are also very nice. It can be a bit hard, but that's part of the challenge!
Good job :)
Great game! I really suck at it though, so I didn't got far. :P Good job ;)
Great game! Graphics are awesome and the gameplay is very good. Perhaps it's a bit too easy though.
Good job!
Although I'm not a big fan of Scratch, I think this is a great little platformer with nice simple graphics. I like hard platformers, so this is definitely something I'd play.
There are some things that can be improved in my opinion. I think the player slides too much when moving: it's kind of annoying. I also don't like the collision with spikes, it seems a bit unfair.
Anyway: good job with the entry! :)
Nice concept! A rectangle size limit, as suggested, would be a good addition.
@all above: You can cover the whole screen, but you'll get a negative score.
The jumping feels a bit odd. Fun game nonetheless!
Too bad you have to restart the webpage when you're game over. Was kinda hard. I did like the art style though!
Nice job
It's a bit too easy when you shoot constantly from the same position. Also, a score system would be nice. Good job with finishing your entry. ;)
Awesome game! Best entry I've played so far :D
Too bad there was no one online in the multiplayer, so I had to fight against bots. But it was fun anyway! I loved the references to annoyed gamers. :p
Good job!
Nice game! I like the simple style. It's fun to drawn a line! Perhaps some powerups could have been nice. I also miss some music.
But it's a fun game overall! Nice job making this in only 48 hours. ^^
I took a while before I knew exactly what to do, but it's a great concept! It's fitting like.. perfectly in the theme! Good job pighead. ;)
Too bad there isn't any sound! The controls made it hard to aim too. But I quite enjoyed the game! Unfortunately I just had one opponent, but it was really fun! With more players it would be even more awesome!
Good job ^^
Nice and simple concept. Too bad there isn't any sound. Good job though!
Nice little game. It's kinda hard later on, but still is a fun game!
Nice little game! It's a bit basic, but I think it's amazing that you made this in one day. (especially since you're new to Unity) You made great use of the theme!
Too bad there is no music in this game. It would've been nice if the tempo of the music would go faster each round. Some powerups and more variation in the enemies would be cool too.
A simple thing like a rounds-counter can be great, because it will allow people to easily compete with each other.
Anyway, keep up the good work! :)
Haha, it's a funny little game! It's a bit easy since you just wait for the admiral to turn, but I think the concept is pretty fun. Good job :)
Thanks for the comments so far. :)
@sgehlich: which browser are you using? I might upload a .exe file, perhaps that will work.
Wow, thanks for taking the time to write all that! The teleporting back was on purpose, since you had to jump from pole to pole. However, this wasn't really clear in the game, and that part of the level was kinda rushed, so I really can't blame you for that!
Haha, you're not the only one who's having trouble with the boss. You're right when you say this was meant to be a throwback to old-school style games. Next time, I'll try to make my bosses challenging, but more fair.
About the sharks in level 1: I can only agree with you. I should've added more variety to the level/sharks. This is something I'll definitely remember for my future games!
Hey Alexis. First of all, I love the graphics! It's just a very colourful game and I personally love pixelart. :) The game sure is challenging, so that's good too.
Too bad there isn't any sound. Next time, I'd recommend to download a sound generator program like SFXR. They're very easy to use, and it adds so much to your game. :) As of the music, there are also simple music generators. I used abundant-music in LD28, which turned out to be a pretty good choice.
It's kind of strange that you can fly outside the screen, since you're always safe there.
And last but not least, I miss a little juiciness. By example, you can shake the screen when you're hitting someone, or you can add (exaggerated) particles to the screen. This will hugely improve the experience of playing the game! I'd recommend you to watch this video, which talks a bit about juiciness in a game: http://goo.gl/N7RfKV
Anyway, it's a nice game, especially since it's your first Unity game! Keep up the good work :)
I agree with Nighley, it's a fun concept! The pathfinding could use some work and the boomerang deals damage when it's laying on the ground.
Good work!
The controls can be kind of clunky, but it is a fun game to play! I like the graphics and the (hard) difficulty! Good job!
This is a really fun game to play! I love that the hammer bounces off the wall, because you can make multiple kills at once that way. :) The graphics are really simplistic and I like it a lot!
The controls feels a bit clunky in the beginning, but the player gets used to it. However, I would love the ability to stand still.

It's pretty difficulty, especially after the fifth stage. It's a fun game nevertheless! :)
Nice game
I really love this game! The graphics are really nice and the music was very relaxing. The length of the game was pretty impressive. Definitely one of my favourite entries so far. ;)
Wow, this is really good! The graphics are amazing and the game concept is really fun. Good job!
Thanks for playing all! I will definetely check out all your entries.
@Shire: this game is mainly optimised for the gamepad, so I agree that the controls for the keyboard are a bit harder. I should have focused on that a bit more!
@gikdew: Thanks mate! :)Your game looks awesome as well.
@BruceDoh: Thank you! I did a little tweaking to the balancing, so it should be improved right now. (for the record: I didn't add anything new or change mechanics, so this is allowed)
@liamtwose: Yes, I found the reason for the crashes and fixed it. I agree that the walls are a bit weak. :)
PriorBlue: Thank you!
Hey Kyatric,
First of all, thanks for the long comment! There are definitely some bugs that I didn't get to fix due time constraint. I didn't even have a goal or real gameplay until the last three hours before submitting. This resulted in basically no time to playtest my game. I even didn't fully play my game until one day after submitting. :p That's the reason why there are still balancing issues and a few bugs.
Enemies can't spawn in greater number/getting stronger the further you went from your camp. There is a maximum amount of enemies that can be alive at the same time to prevent this.
I appreciate your critic, and it's nice that you spent so much time on it! :) I am considering a sequel/remake of this game, so I'll definitely take the time to polish it up. ^^
Thanks for the comments, it's really great to read them and learn from them. I'm considering to make a sequel with lots of additions. If you'd like to keep updated on that project, you could follow my Twitter. ;) (TumbleweedGames)
@JavadocMD: You can play move around with the arrow keys as well, so you can play with two hands. I have to improve the keyboard controls though!
Cool little game! I love the graphics and the simplistic gameplay. Good job. :)
Nice game! I like the graphics. Too bad there isn't any sound, since it could really enhances the experience. (Or was the sound not working for me?)
I like the fact that you also made a bossfight in your entry. It's also nice that you made a little story behind it.
I'd also like to see a reload function. I had to start all over again when I pressed 'R' during the bossfight. It was soon after that I realised I had restarted the game instead of reloading my gun. :P
Either way, you did a good job! :)
This is really addictive! Finished it with:
Claws level: 89
Money level: 21
Time level: 7
Good job! :D
Nice game! In the beginning, I found it a little bit difficult to get the hang of the controls, but this improved as I played the game. I like the concept and I think it's a quite original one! Good job.
Hey Kyatric,
I already played and rated your game earlier today, but since you wrote a nice long comment at my game, it only seems fair to give you a comment as well.
First of all, I think it's a nice concept, I think you can do some fun things with the light mechanic. But to be honest, I don't really like the execution of it.
It's kind of annoying that the candle goes out when you move. That concept could work, but it can be quite frustation when you have to stop every three seconds to get from point A to point B. (especially since the player is really slow) The fact that most of the game consists out of walking empty spaces doesn't really help. I died more often because of walking a little too long rather than the monsters killing me.
There isn't much else to talk about. I think you did a good job with the graphics and I definitely like some details like the staring eyes.
----
I didn't read the comments above me at first, so I could give you a non-biased comment myself. Lighten areas could be a nice addition, although I'd combine it with the idea of GertJohnny. You could add slow walking and a running system. However, make sure that there is a nice balance between the two of them, so the pacing doesn't get out of balance.
Congratulations on finishing your compo entry!
Very nice! I really enjoyed it. The graphics are great and the length of the game is really nicely done.
Thanks for the comments. It's really unfortunate that we didn't had time to add any meaningful gameplay. This is our first game with the Unreal 4 engine, so we weren't really sure how to fix the performance issues. We've learned a lot though, so we hope to deliver a more polished game in the next Ludum Dare! :)
@SaintHeiser: You're a space mechanic who is responsible for all the equipment on the ship. To accomplish this, you need to keep an eye on the big screen in the main room. This screen will there you what to do and what is happening in the ship. So there's the connection to the theme. ;)
The official servers are offline at the moment. (we need some sleep too!) We'll keep you guys updated on the status of the server on our Twitter account:
@TumbleweedGames
Thanks for the feedback so far! We have started working on the post-jam version of the game. Social features like usernames and a chat system are definitely things we'd like to implement in the game. We're really excited to expand Freeze Tank!
We'll probably livestream the development of Freeze Tank this weekend. If you'd like to keep an eye on the development or official play moments, make sure to follow our Twitter. :) (@Tumbleweedgames)
@omaha: Unfortunately, we don't own a Mac system which is required. We'll look into this matter though!
