awesome job, my only complaint is that it was too easy to accidentally remove shapes when placing near the edge. maybe some sort of visual indication that the piece is going to be in an invalid location would be helpful. lots of fun, and challenging!
thanks guys! I have started working on some proper level design, which is making it feel much more like a game to me. I will probably release an updated version sometime in the next couple of weeks once I've done, then I'll look into adding some more gameplay features. Not sure if I want to do enemies, but it does need some other challenge.
and nice work with the hackery BrainSlugs83 :)
@joe40001
yeah, i suppose I should have made it clear that there wasn't a definite end. There really isn't anything to do after that point. Sorry about that! I've branched this project and started redesigning the world from the ground up, and have made a good amount of progress, but I won't post anything about that until the judging time period is over.
nice take on the match3 style game. the shape of the board and the colors create some neat patterns to look at. good job!
Probably my favorite of the competition. Not ashamed to say that I played this for about and hour and a half before I finally beat it! Very impressive!
I've actually come back and played this game some more after beating it, just because I like it so much! Do you have any plans to expand on it after the competition period is over?
interesting concept. like others have noted, the camera movement was a bit weird at first. If you continue to work on it, I'd recommend adding some other visual cue that the camera is moving. good work!
Very cool, although I found it difficult to read the text on the right while dealing with the falling objects on the left. I didn't really get when I was supposed to hit them and when I was supposed to skip them. It was fun though, great job!
funny, i played this longer than I probably should have. In that sense, it's a success!
I can't believe I played the whole thing. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed that it stopped at level 10. I was preparing for a sheep shit-storm!
like the visuals, but found the running sound effect a bit abrasive. Also, i think the hitboxes could be smaller, I was often colliding with things when it didn't seem like I should be. Fun though!
neat concept, though I would have liked to have seen something more from the orcs. it'd be cool if they moved around or something. I like the movement idea. Nice job
nice style and some nice puzzles too. Good work!
i like the style a lot, although the gameplay became a little to easy. I would like to have seen a motivation for letting the player move left/right (ie, a reason to ever move to the right). Good job on your first ludum dare!
Very nice. simple controls, and good humor :)
Good effort. Obviously not finished, but it *does* fit the theme!
very nice, reminds me of jezzball. love the fill animation!
It looks great, but I honestly could not get past the first area. By the time I was able to get past the first jump, I always hit the green dude. I would recommend tightening up the controls a bit, and maybe easing into the difficulty.
awesome job, very enjoyable to play. great simplification of RTS style game
whoa. so, i'm not able to actually play yours because I'm on a mac, BUT.... i think we had almost the exact same concept! Even the graphics look very similar (based on your screen shot). Although, in my game, you CAN move through objects of your color (which I think is opposite of your implementation). Just thought that was funny! Good job!
Nice idea, though it soon became unplayable for me due to out-of-control spawning.
Nice. I don't know if its just me, but I kept thinking that I was the yellow square. Maybe I'm too tired to be playing right now... :)
I really like the idea. I had little idea what I was supposed to do (if anything) during the battle sequences, but they seemed to resolve themselves and they were cool to watch. Good job!
Well done. Nice graphics, and was quick enough to not be annoying. I tried several times but I never even got close to the top, but then again i only tried super far shots :)
thanks everyone. The blurry graphics are only a problem as far as I know in Chrome, though maybe in IE as well. Unfortunately the only work around is to either manually or procedurally create new assets for the larger window sizes, which I didn't have time to do, although maybe that falls under the purview of 'bug fixing"? If you are able to (and want to see it as intended", it should look right in Firefox or Safari.
I really enjoyed this, I especially liked the 'click'/'shunk' sould effects. I would like to see more colors to help ramp up the difficulty more. Good job!
Nice idea, but as Lazdo says, controls really killed it for me. Control responsiveness is one of the most important things for being able to enjoy a platformer at all, so my advice is spend a little more time tightening up the controls next time.
Unfinished, but a good start. I think it would have been better to include less things and have a more complete game, but I always struggle with that, too. Good work :)
Just excellent, well done!
i really like this, even though I couldn't even get past the first number :) I'll have to try again on a keyboard with a number pad
Nice twitch platformer here. I wish the view area were just a *little* bigger, but thats kind of minor. I never really got far, but did discover a nice shortcut :)
I don't know if it's just me, but I could not really figure out what to do. It seemed like I should be trying to hit the things on the right, but I couldn't figure out how to aim properly.
Really cool idea. I would like to see more variety in the ship pieces, but other than that its great. Well done!
Good job, it turned out well. The only annoyance for me was that the player always wanted to face up when no keys were pressed, which affected the way the light was cast. Thanks for including the scrapped game too, I always like seeing that kind of progression :)
well done. I would like to have seen some variety in the enemies, but even as is its fun enough.
Interesting take on the theme. I think the hardest part for me was getting up that damn staircase, though I suppose thats appropriate. Well done
This was pretty cool. I wish it was a little bit more challenging though. I died once on the first level, but then I realized that I only really needed to use one blocker and run along the edge of the screen. That worked for every level, which was somewhat disappointing, because the mechanic is cool. Good job!
Fun, though the controls are a little wonky. Took some time to get used to the speed of movement. Also, I somehow got stuck on a weapons upgrade screen in the first area, and somehow when I figured out how to close it, I had been teleported into an area with a bajillion monsters. I died promptly and was very confused, but the second playthrough was better :)
Really cool, and surprisingly challenging. Well done!
Good job! I had to cheat a little to win, I stood in the top left corner, where no enemies ever went except the 3-4 that spawned there. By the time the minute was up, all of the enemies had gotten stuck on the edge of the ring, so it was really easy to walk down and grab the belt :P
Pretty fun, and challenging. I gave up when I accidentally fell almost the whole way back down... Also, i discovered a bug: it seems that if you collect the 'cap' after throwing it _before_ it hits the ground, you are no longer able to throw it or jump, making the game unplayable.
For some reason, I decided to bring that falling thing back up to the ship (what is that thing?). With some effort and patience, I did, but nothing happened. I don't know what I was expecting. It looks nice and was interesting, despite the lack of things to do (unless there are things? I didn't explore more than 1 screen in either direction). Good job
Cool, but too hard! Nice artwork too!
The course is well done, but the controls _really_ need some work. This sort of game hinges on tight controls.
The web link appears to be broken :(
I can see how this concept could develop into something cool, but it really bugged me that suddenly became a random draw.
Very fun. The hardest thing about it is that it if pretty difficult to stay in one spot (at least for me), so there were a bunch of times when i accidentally ran into enemies. That could just be a side effect of playing on a trackpad though. Cool game!
Cute game. The interesting thing I noticed while playing it is that it has a sort of reverse difficulti curve - it gets easier as you approach the end. Not really a criticism, just an observation. Good job!
Very cool, definitely not the kind of thing I expected to see and well written to boot!
An interesting concept, but I couldn't really figure out how use it. i just moved some boxes around for a while, basically. Perhaps I'm missing something...
Art and music were great, as well as the concept. I love that its different each time! The controls were a little wonky, and there were some collision detection issues (walking over walls) but those are minor considering the type of game it is. Well done!
Fun game, though i wish it was a little shorter. It kind of sucks to spend a significant time in a game only to realize that you can't possibly win :( Shorter games would alleviate that pain
Seemed like a neat idea, and the style & music were cool, but I couldn't really get the combat down. I think it was slightly too difficult. Good job though
Well done. It was a little weird how trees don't conserve their momentum when released (i.e. they always drop straight down) though it did make it easier to actually collect the trees
Nice and simple. I played for probably too long. I think a very soft 'pop' or 'click' noise with each collision would make it even more satisfying to see long chain reactions :) Good work!
Yeah, this is good stuff. I don't necessarily think its a great use of the theme, but its a lot of fun and well done.
I like this, but I think I would have liked it more if it were turn based (i.e., the gnomes only move when you do). That, or if they moved a little bit slower. I got killed a few times just looking for the exit.
It seemed like I was never quite sure what I was doing, but I was getting places. Interesting, but I think it needed a little more time. Also, the controls were wacky for me, but I think that might have been Unity being confused about my keyboard layout
Nice lemmings clone. I think having a way to completely reset a level (i.e. remove all placed structures) would be nice.
I liked it a lot! The mechanics were a little weird when applied to the last scene, but in general worked well. Good job!
Very nice! I played several times and couldn't do better than 5 chests, so I think the difficulty is pretty good. Graphics and music are good, well done!
Fun! Pretty difficult to actually save people, though. Good job!
Enjoyed it quite a bit, up until the point where I got wiped out :P I guess I waited too long to build military units. Was fun though. Too bad about not being able to rate graphics, I thought they were nice!
Neat idea! I think it was just a little _too_ fast-paced, most of the stocks had died before I even figured out what was going on :P
Nice game, very simple but pleasant to play!
Neat perspective. Had fun playing for a minute (I think I got to around 130 yds? what kind of football field is this!?) but it does get a little tedious. I think if the difficulty ramped up a little quicker I'd have played a bit longer. Well done!
Nice idea! My main issue was with the controls - with top-down shooters like this, its really best if the move controls are _independent_ of the aim controls. Nice work!
Hah, I enjoyed this quite a bit despite its simplicity. Pretty unbalanced but thats probably why I liked it so much :) Pretty quickly got to the point where I couldn't click fast enough to keep hiring more of the top-tier developers. Nice work!
I'm just getting a blank page on the web link.
Neat game! Looks good and was a decent challenge. I think I beat the king by glitching him out (I teleported onto his head, then he let me just attack him freely). Including the arena mode was a nice bonus, too! Well done!
Very cool. I tried to play both characters at the same time, which was pretty tricky. Nice style!
Pretty fun! I liked how you worked the snowman in :)
Seems like an interesting idea, but I couldn't really figure out what I was supposed to be doing. Intriguing game!
Nice take on the theme! I enjoyed it!
Nice job! I think maybe it was a bit too fast paced, but cool concept and the style is nice
Wow, really cool concept! I don't have anyone nearby to play with, so I haven't been able to fully experience it yet, but it seems really cool! Nice work!
Pretty fun, though in the late game i had a hard time doing anything but sit back and watch. Made it to wave 13 but got cruuussshed :P
Loved it! Very fun and the pace is good. My best was 1150
Fun and challenging! My main suggestion would be to have the 'replay' button on the game over screen immediately start a new game, and have the 'quit' button return to the main menu. Music is awesome! Good job!
Game looks cool, but I had a hard time understanding why I kept dying :P
Animations were nice! I could definitely see this expanded to a more complete farming-sandbox game. Very cool!
Very nice! The screen transitions work really well for the theme.
Looks like it might be interesting, but I just don't quite get how to play.
Good job! I think i got into the 500s for score.
Had a hard time figuring out what I was supposed to do, but its looking good!
Nice idea, not quite challenging enough for me though :P Some simple sound effects on toggling/completing a group would kick this thing up a notch. Itd also be nice if it scaled up in challenge (e.g start with one group of four, then 2 groups, then build to more groups of larger size, etc). Nice job on your first LD!
Really nice! Very fun, and the challenge was just enough to keep me playing. Well done!
Orbital physics-based games are always neat! I thought it was fun, but I didn't plan well and got stranded on a planet with no fuel or coins...
The first time I Played I had no idea what was going on and was dead before I realized it. I think having a 'game over' and then reset would be useful. Once I realized what it was about, I thought the fisheye effect was a pretty cool way to get the whole game world onto the screen. Nice work!
That tag line made me chuckle. I lost pretty badly, I guess I ruined Christmas :P
Interesting! I'm a big fan of non-game games, so I found this to be pretty cool. Some branching of the narrative or _some_ level of interaction would be cool. Good job!
What a strange game! I kind of like the exploration. I _think_ I won, but I'm not entirely sure... Very interesting, good job!
Neat idea! Would like there to be a little more to the game. Nice job!
Good job, I enjoyed it! Simple with decent level of challnge. I liked that the missiles collide with each other, letting you be more selective with your shots.
Very cool! Really nice interpretation of the theme.
I really like the idea of doing a choose-your-own-adventure, though I admin I struggled with the english version. I really enjoyed the minimalistic presentation. Nice job!
This is a pretty neat little game – the control scheme tripped me up at first and it took me a minute to really grok what I was supposed to be doing, but I figured it out after a minute. Nice work!
Interesting idea! I think my only complaint is that it took too long for certain actions. For example, changing direction is _really_ slow (e.g. steering). Nice job!
First couple of times I loaded it I couldn't get past the intro. Once I got in, the game was fun. Surprisingly difficult! Nice work :)
Nice fun little game, good job on your first jam! The only thing I wished for was full controller support (analog stick worked for movement but i needed the keyboard for jumping/shooting). Well done!
Nice job, good atmosphere! I noticed one little bug - when playing with a gamepad and moving with and analog stick, the sprite actually rotates when moving up/down :) Good work!
Cool idea. The creepy whispering really set the mood, I wasn't expecting that. Very challenging. My only suggestions would be to 1) add a brief period of invulnerability after being hit in the shadow state (several times i was hit, fell onto the enemy, and insta-died), and to maybe find some reason to be in the non-shadow state (there's not much reason to now since you can't attack and movement is harder). Great work!
Nice work! I like the idea, can definitely see a lot of potential here for a good platformer experience. The controls need a little bit of tightening up but its a good start!
Good job. This is a fun little arcade game! I couldn't get it to work with my gamepad for some reason, but it was still good with the old keyboard :)
@Dynamic Panic Studios – Thanks! Yeah, i think there's a bunch of really easy steps that'll make a big difference. I think it feels fun right now, but as some folks have pointed out, you can get pretty far just by spamming the primary attack. One thought is to tweak the balance of that (add some cooldown, etc) to make that less viable, or to add different enemies with different attack patterns, etc. I may try to work on it some more over the holidays :)
Nice idea! It seemed like sometimes the ball would 'snap' to a 90 degree angle and just bounce between the same two points infinitely. Interesting take on a classic!
Really nice work! Great graphics, nice sound effects and fun arcade-style gameplay. I played a couple of rounds, got a high score of 4100. Really good job!
Funny concept, and neat idea with the 3d "spot the differences" - I don't think I've seen that before. Funny too! Good job!
Very neat little game! Great graphics and music. I felt a little weird when two of my original folks died and all the offspring started looking identical - maybe you could add a chance for children to have some variation from their parents' colors? (or maybe there is and i just didn't play enough).
Wow, really nice work! I tried several times but kept getting killed by the monsters. Really neat concept and the whole thing is surprisingly polished. I'd definitely play more of this!
Wow, really fun game! Nice challenge, funny concept. The controls were a little touchy in some cases but I kept wanting to play it! Really nice work :)
Nice little game! I thought the difficulty ramp up was great, the last wave was just hard enough without being impossible. Nice work!
Nice take on the theme – I was a little lucky in that the needle was in the first house I checked, but it was in the _last_ room of that house :P
I enjoyed this idea - the only thing I wished for was that the earlier levels incorporated the red squares more. It seemed like levels 1-3 were very easy and required no using the red squares, then the last level was craaazy hard :) Great work!
I was pleasantly surprised by this game – interesting idea to have the level rotate on the second play through. It would be cool to see more levels designed with this in mind. Nice work!
Really nice and polished game. Loved the overall style and theme. I did run into a unity error when jumping over the spike pit with the dog, so I couldn't get past that part.
Nice little game, neat idea :) I could easily see this being a fun mobile game
Really nice idea! I struggled in my first playthrough because I made it several rounds in with only one of one of the room types (exercise room? the greyish one). That made it _very_ difficult to balance. The second playthrough had a more even distribution of the room types so it was a lot easier to manage. Loved the little voice overs! Great work :D
Nice little game, has an old school arcade vibe to it. Is there any way to defeat the turrets? Or is it just "survive as long as you can?".
Nice idea. I think the enemies were a little overwhelming and it wasn't always obvious where my hits where landing. Nice little game though, I made it through 10 waves. Good job!
Nice work - a good start on a tower defense. The two biggest things for me were 1) the difficulty never seemed to ramp up, i never needed to build more than 1 turret per lane and 2) my turrets seemed to disappear in between rounds. Also, i never quite figured out what th $300 item did. Still, great start, good job!
Nice looking game, good atmosphere! I think I ran into a bug or something, I killed off all the monsters but it never went past level 1 and they stopped spawning. I think the camera control is a bit wild, its a little hard to navigate, but nice work overall!
Nice graphics, I agree that sound fx would've pulled it together. L was never quite sure if I was hitting the bees with some of the attacks. Good work though! Why bees?!?
Seemed cool, but I couldn't figure out how to move/control anything. Graphics looked good, nice work!
Nice work! Good difficulty progression and I liked that it had an explicit time limit. If you were going to develop it further, I think adding some additional power up types (e.g. bigger bullets) would be cool. It'd also be interesting to play around with the firing mechanics – right now there's no reason not to always be shooting, so adding some reason to _stop_ shooting (e.g. maybe your attack charges up when not shooting, or maybe your weapon will overheat if you shoot too much) could add an additional layer of strategy to it.
I'm really impressed with how much you fit into this small game. It really feels like a complete package in a way that a lot of entries don't – the start menu, end credits, cutscenes, multiple types of gameplay, and visual storytelling all come together nicely, so well done!
My only gripe was that some of the side scrolling segments dragged on a little too long – I think it would have been nicer to have split those up into smaller sections interspersed with more of the ring-based levels, and maybe 1 or 2 more segments featuring the antagonist.
