Great story. Games don't have to be complex to be amazing.

Great story. Games don't have to be complex to be amazing.
It's different, but not in a bad way. Unique. It's not a game, but it's interesting
To Steve Cochrane (and anyone else facing the same issue), press escape to return to the previous menu screen.
AdamHarte: Yeah, I know, the wolves just seem to pop up out of nowhere sometimes. It plays a growl sound when you're getting close to a wolf, but sometimes it's already too late.
sittaman: Sorry about that. For future reference, how could I help eliminate colorblindness-related issues?
Thank you for all the kind words, everyone :) I really appreciate it. Thank you for the feedback too, next Ludum Dare I will be sure to re-read these comments to ensure I don't make the same mistakes twice!
Reaperguy: I wanted to work on the wolf spawning script so it wouldn't spawn too close to you, but I didn't have enough time.
mollymus: Yeah, we didn't have time to actually add in that requirement, nor fix the text! Sorry about that :P And thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Made me sad (which is good), fantastic job.
Really love the way the car handles. Great game :)
Fantastic game! My only feedback for future projects is to make sure the GUI text stays visible at all times (it can get covered by asteroids; or maybe you did that purposely, what do I know?). Again, great game!
I literally laughed out loud at the escargot joke. Five stars for humor :)
Amazing game, one of my favorites in the competition. The unlockable modes give it great replayability. I love it.
As a fellow young dev (16), stick with it! You did a nice, solid job with this, keep at it.
Superb game, really great job on all fronts (music, art, dialogue, everything!)
Thanks for all the positive feedback!
pom9898:
Thanks! Second full Ludum Dare for me, first for my partner, but I did Shark Jam last month, and we've both made many games outside of Ludum Dare.
Hyde Wyvern:
Played through your game earlier (although I just realized I forgot to finish and rate it!), and I noticed the similarities immediately. So interesting how the same sub-theme can be taken two totally different ways!
aare:
-- Spoilers --
Unfortunately, early decisions don't much end up impacting future consequences, the consequences are usually immediate. No matter your early choices, you always end up working at the insurance office, if you deny money you become guilt ridden, if you give it you get fired, and you always end up dying. That's our take on the theme, you only get one ending. In a full game, you're right, there would be a more diverse system of choices and consequences and personality and all that stuff.
archaeometrician:
SPOILER
Not sure if I should reveal this, but there is no way to achieve immortality. That's the point/moral of the game, no matter how you live your life, it always ends, and you can never become immortal.
Fantastic graphics, feel very whimsical :)
Really fantastic game, on all fronts. Using premade/copyrighted music is a bit sketchy, but Parov Stelar makes up for it :)
Really interesting and unique spin on the "one bullet" aspect :)
These mechanics are astoundingly genius. For only three hours, this is absolutely incredible!
Very calming, and charming graphics and especially audio!
Really interesting concept!
Fantastic game. Truly special art and music :)
One of the best games I've played so far! Love the glitch aesthetic, and the whole concept is so unique :)
Super fun and unique, although a bit hard :(
Fantastic! I hope to achieve this level of uniqueness and creativity in a future jam!
Lovely game! The mechanic reminds me of Paper Mario :)
Really enjoyed this. It has a great feel to it, really unique.
By far the most unique game I've played so far!
Interesting take on Snake, and great music!
Really very solid on all fronts. Gets fun when the difficulty ramps up!
Great concept and execution! Although sometimes a bit difficult :(
Super charming art and story, and while it could get a bit difficult, it was so fun that I played through to the end!
Nice game, fun mechanic, and I loved the enemy variety!
So great and refreshing :) We need more innovative and humorous games like this
A game has never made me cry. This almost did. Bravo.
The sweetest (and one of the best) games I've played!
Truly amazing art! Unfortunately, there were some issues with the camera not panning low enough prevent this from being a 5/5 :(
Really great game, funny and great art!
My favorite of the competition. It reminds me of Cave Story, but with puzzles instead of combat. Great puzzles, and flawless art and music. Spent at least 20 minutes playing through the whole game, it was well worth it :D
Also, not that it needs to be longer, but I would buy it if you guys made a full game!
Really great social commentary and writing! Great to see games that push the envelope on what it means to be a game :)
Love the aesthetics, and the gameplay is really fun!
@BoneDaddy: And I never thought I'd make a typing game! Thanks! Yup, I wish I could have made it longer, but I didn't know quite what to add :P Thanks for mentioning the filesize, I just realized I accidentally forgot to uncheck "Embed Java" when I exported it. I've reuploaded it without the embeded Java, so the filesize is much smaller!
@Jupiter_Hadley Thanks again for featuring it in your video! Two things you may be missing: Firstly, the whole game is a reference to the movie Zoolander, so if you haven't watched Zoolander the game will probably make no sense, and the humor factor goes way down. Secondly, if you type the letters fast enough you "win", which I don't think you got a chance to see.
@KevinWorkman: Hmm, I keep getting reports of that. What OS are you on, and what version (eg. Windows 7, 8, etc.)? Sorry about that inconvenience, I have no idea why it's happening!
I've been getting multiple reports of the game not launching or the key presses not registering. I'm super sorry about this, and it really pains me that people are having trouble with it. I've also experienced on my own computer (though thankfully no one has reported a case of this yet) that the game is running extremely slow. I'm doing my best to fix these issues, but I currently have no idea what could be causing them. I acknowledge that I may not be able to fix them, and deeply apologize.
@Oddly Shaped Pixels: Thanks man!
@Moosefly: If you're willing to go into the code, there are two things you can try. First, try commenting out the lines "Music = minim.loadFile("MagnumMusic.mp3");
Music.loop();". @garygreen said that music might make it run slowly, and those are the lines that play the music. The other thing that might help is commenting out the line "frameRate(21);". I locked the framerate to 21 frames per second because I noticed it was running way too fast on some computers, and I neglected to make it framerate independent.
Really nice graphics and tight controls!
Really charming little game, and a fantastic puzzle mechanic. Art and music are great too :) Time to go try Angelina's entry!
Amazing game, five stars on all fronts. Very fun and suspenseful, great art and reward system.
Surprisingly deep and moody for a game about fish!
Pretty amazing game! The only thing that really feels missing is music and SFX.
Nice little platformer!
Nice concept, very challenging!
The controls are so tight and fantastic! It just feels "right". The graphics and VFX are all great, and really give it a great retro arcade feeling!
Really love the minimalistic art style, very relaxing when paired with the white noise!
Nice idea, and good graphics too! Just a tad to easy and "lacking a goal" though, not that a game necessarily needs one!
Nice idea, and good graphics too! Just a tad too easy and "lacking a goal" though, not that a game necessarily needs one!
Really like the game mechanic and concept!
Really fantastic overall! Love the concept and the graphics, and it's really fun!
Really interesting concept! Drilling didn't always work perfectly, but still fun!
Really solid and fun game! All I'm missing is a jaunty sailing tune :)
Really fun game, love the music!
Really unique and interesting game! The atmosphere is very Portal-esque to me. Great opening sequence too!
One of the best games I've played so far in the competition, extremely fun and addicting, with amazing graphics, music, and controls!
Controls felt a bit unresponsive, but I really like the Super Hexagon-ish concept!
Really charming and challenging game! The graphics and audio are both fantastic!
Really like the idea, I had a very similar one a while ago :)
Really fun game, and the graphics and music are fantastic too!
Kind of terrifying, I felt very worried whenever I turned a corner that there would be an enemy behind it. It's very similar to Angelina's last entry, but I guess that's to be expected. Next step is to have her (her?) make the templates herself! Keep up the good work!
Really fantastic graphics and music, and the combat system is very unique!
LOVE the retro art! The whole game is pretty fantastic, and the mole guy is so cute! It gives off a very retro and moody atmosphere.
Fantastic game, and super funny!
Kind of hard, but the graphics and audio are fantastic, and extremely polished!
Love the controls, the scrolling camera, and the art! However, I can't figure out what to do once I get to the treasure chest :(
Really nice, short game, with great art!
Really nice art and tight controls!
Really great overall, and I LOVE the controls!
Really top notch graphics and audio! And really fun too! A great badass "beat-everything-up" type game!
Nice fun game :)
Really like the music!
Really love "discovering" each of the new powers, and love the Greek-mythology setting!
Really like the concept, I think it would make a great finished game, and even what you have is really good!
Really love this concept, and the execution is really good too!
Interesting, I also considered doing a game about Id, Ego, and Superego! Somewhat laggy, but the graphics are great!
Love the music and the humor! Couldn't quite figure out how to kill someone, but that's okay :)
So trippy and disorientating! I really love the aesthetics and the copious amounts of spinning :)
Really nice concept!
Really great graphics!
Really fantastic game, all the little visual touches make it so great! The music and risk/reward system are amazing as well!
So cheery for a fish combat simulator! Great game, super fun, five stars on all fronts :)
I reallllllllly like this concept. The Gameboy-esque art is also awesome!
Pretty damn near perfect. Five stars on all fronts.
A bit repetitive, but nice!
Love the retro aesthetic!
Took me a while to figure out what to do, but the art, music, atmosphere, and writing are fantastic!
Really like the risk reward system, and I found myself constantly asking "Do I dig this up? Do I get a beer? Do I run from the security guy?" It makes for very engaged and fast paced (and fun) gameplay!
Really love the mechanic, it's super fun, and the perspective effect is awesome! The graphics and audio are awesome too :)
Really neat game and mechanic. Works great for a puzzle game. The spell mechanic is really clever and cool! The art and music are top notch, but missing one heart piece and getting the bad ending was really frustrating :P
Art, music, mood, et cetera are all beautiful! However, the game was a bit slow and the physics/controls were a bit slippery. The combination of those two made the game very difficult at certain points.
@Samuel Arminana, Jupiter_Hadley, OnlySlightly: Thanks so much!
@BloodJohn: I feared someone would say that. I definitely see where you're coming from, and it's definitely not a traditional "game"
@Juptiron Thanks! Glad to see the message is coming through :)
@McFood Thanks a ton! Great to know that people are really understanding the deeper meaning. Also one of my first games where I'm really happy with the art, and the music too! The music was actually super simple (you didn't ask the process but I wanted to share it :P ), I just generated a three second audio clip here (http://www.earslap.com/page/otomata.html), cleaned it up in Audactiy so it looped properly, set it to loop, and added a slight random pitch shift every six seconds!
@Appocket Thanks! I chose to not make the main character white, as that would be a statement in and of itself, so my first thought was an alien ("The Abyss" Special Edition, anyone?). However, I settled on the ghost because it fulfilled the non-human requirement and was easy to animate. Symbolically, however, the meaning is up to the player to decide :)
@TrickFishPie @alvivar Thanks guys!
@zatyka Thanks so much! Means a lot to me :)
@jordanbloemen @ponywolf Thanks!
@Lord bobyness Aww, thank you so much!
@creative360 @LaFleur Thanks so much guys!
@McFunkypants Thanks Christer :D
@Lokarunith @DustyStylus @igoramendola @Moosefly @mrexcessive Thanks!
@MintArcade Thanks!
Interesting mechanic, cool art style! Feels like it could be a bit faster paced somehow, though
Neat concept, great art and audio! Very challenging puzzles though :P
Really love the aesthetics and style, and finding something was both satisfying or mysterious (although the things I found didn't help me find my partner :P )
Interesting concept, but not executed perfectly. The rhythm aspect felt more like a gimmick than a feature, and sucking up dark enemies felt clunky. However, the art is quite cute!
Interesting mechanic, the aesthetics are very slick, and the music compliments it well! A bit difficult and occasionally frustrating, though :(
Didn't get how to play at first, but once I figured it out I had a fun time! The transition between the worlds is devilish :) Next time maybe take a crack making some art to make it a bit prettier and more "you" (nice color scheme though!)
Fabulous game, the graphics and music both fit perfectly. It's also very funny, which never hurts! My fleet of the Galactica, Serenity, and Swordfish only made it to day nine :(
Really innovative and sweet project. The description (and the picture of Mullet Christer!) gave me a great mental picture of your journey. Hard figuring out to rate you in the technical categories, gave you middle of the road :)
Really great game. Super unique and innovative. Difficult too, but I love the audio!
Really like the art style, visual effects, and transitions when you "evolve". As another commenter mentioned, the first thing that it reminded me of is the first level of Spore :)
Felt insanely frustrating to have to restart after being one-hit-killed, but the roll animation was perfect!
Neat and challenging, makes for a very tense game! Got to wave 8, score of 358
Very interesting mechanic, love the use of theme. Graphics are fantastic, and the 2D/3D effect is amazing :) Only criticism, like the other commenters, is too much sliding
First five star overall score I've given this Ludum Dare. Very frustrating, dies 45 times, played for 15 minutes, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The art and music are both fantastically simple, and the story is D'AWWWWW :)
Had a very difficult time playing (lots of error messages, I have no idea why), but the art is beautifully simple
The writing and story is super cheesy (no offense), but the platforming felt really solid and the art was beautiful :)
J'aime cette jeux! L'art est incroyable, et l'intrigue est tres interresant et pertinent. C'est tres amusement aussi! Sorry if my French is no good, been two years since I stopped studying it, and I had to use some Google Translate :P
Probably my favorite entry this Ludum Dare. While it brings nothing new gameplay-wise, the art is beyond beautiful, on an emotional, more-than-aesthetic level. It feels like it should be a book. I want to explore this world. I want to meet its inhabitants. I want more! Bravo.
Was gonna give you five stars overall, but then I realized how short it was. Nothing new or innovative or substantial about the gameplay, but the graphics, oh, the graphics! They're beautiful! The music's also very, very nice. Wish it were longer!
Another Ludum Dare, another creepy game by ANGELINA! Virtually no apparent connection to the , and the mechanics are exactly the same as ANGELINA's last two entries. However, the "music", as well as ANGELINA's signature creepy vibe make for one scary game.
Neat game, reminds me of an old iOS game (think it's called Alchemy?) that I played a couple years ago. Got 53 out of 61!
Very clever concept! Art is very solid. Some music and sound effects would be nice, and something to collect (coins?) might be another cool edition. Or some kind of enemies maybe? But overall, nice job!
Really like the use of theme, and the graphics are solid. Got stuck in the shop, unfortunately. Definitely bump up the movement speed next time. I also love the music, how'd you make it?
Graphics and mood are great, but at the beginning it's quite hard to find enemies, and the enemy pathfinding could be greatly improved. The often landed right on top of me, or vice versa :(
Reminds me of Taquito Tower (http://whybotherplayinggameswhenyouwilljustdieandforgetthem.itch.io/taquito) and Katamari, of course. Great weirdness! To paraphrase the Bhagavad Gita, "Now I am become noodle, destroyer of worlds."
WOAH you're the Taquito Tower guy! No wonder I was reminded of it!
My idol <3
Gameplay got a bit repetitive, but the 3D art and animation is stunning.
Graphics weren't bad, but killing skulls was very difficult
Quite difficult and the music sounds a bit buggy, but I really enjoyed the art!
Really nice game, love the mechanic!
At first I was super confused... then after reading through the comments I thought I figured out what to do, but couldn't get it to work predictably. You have guts for making such a difficult mechanic, which I both love and hate you for. The art is top notch, but some music would've helped a lot. I really wanted to help those people... :'(
Like the story in the description, but unfortunately it's not conveyed anywhere in-game :( Great art style, though! Some collectibles/coins or a score would've been nice, and the sound effects were a bit jarring.
Funny little game! I got a bug (I think) at the kiss, the planets moved apart instead of towards each other (guess it wasn't meant to be :P ). Lovely art, and the audio is a nice touch!
Five stars all around (although I feel a bit guilty about giving it that, because things got WAY too hectic and hard to control/manage after the screen split). The graphics and audio are professional level :)
Really love the art, but the game was a bit difficult
The collisions and difficulty feel a little off, but I really like the art and music!
A very hard game, but I dig the art and audio :)
The rotation was kind of difficult and clunky, but I really like the missile animation :)
I really like the use of theme, and the game feels very tight and responsive. However, some audio would've been nice, as well as some health bars. I also experienced a glitch were I was able to still shoot, move, an no-clip after dying :P
The mechanics you have are pretty solid, but I would've loved to see more art, enemy variation, powerups, etc. Congrats on your first completed game!
Well that was... quite an experience. A moody masterpiece in weirdness. Five stars!
Fantastic game. Manages to be both chill and relaxed and challenging and stressful at the same time. Extremely polished for 48 hours, all around amazing.
Very interesting take on the genre, and very challenging!
I adore the art and music!
Really fun mechanic, and unique too! Got to 25 seconds.
Quirky, charming game that left me with a smile on my face
Controls felt a bit slow and unresponsive, but I really like the enemy sprites!
Overall really solid game! Kudos to you for pulling off multiplayer in 48 hours!
A cute game, reminiscent of the good old days of Motherload. Very satisfying to find something :)
A fun idea, but it felt a bit not-tight, and the rules were also a bit confusing
