Composition with Yellow, Red, and Blue by DaveDobson 2013-05-03T18:16:00
Damn you splodgy rectangles! I like the movement mechanic. Some of the levels are a bit frustrating but overall I think the difficulty level is good.

Damn you splodgy rectangles! I like the movement mechanic. Some of the levels are a bit frustrating but overall I think the difficulty level is good.
Nice combination of ideas (one button and controlling 2 players at once). I also went down the one-button path with my game ;) Keeping track of two different viewports was difficult for me. If they were always next to each other it would've been easier to grasp, but also less challenging I guess.
Very nice music and graphics. It's cool how you can stay in the air for a while by "flapping" your sword :) Could use some more variety, maybe a way to do combos or something.
Hmmm certainly minimal. The "hit" animation is pretty neat.
Nice mood and dark humor. The music was great :)
Nice visual style, I like the minimal parallax scrolling background. Game mechanic reminds me of VVVVVV ;)
Very nice game :D I think the difficulty is fine, It's a bit of a challenge but that makes passing the game very satisfying. I really liked the idea of "reverse breakout" ^^ And yeah, the sound is nice too.
I too thought, that I supposed to give shadows to things that need them at first :D Luckily that influenced only my first choice.
Anyway pretty funny, the ending was a surprise :D
25% pervert, 100% goofy ^^
Nice idea and clever puzzles :)
It works, but only over HTTP, you need to run a local web server. Tip for linux/mac users: run "python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000" in the directory and browse http://localhost:8000/QatBeats.html
Next time I recommend hosting it on dropbox using the Public folder, quick and easy :)
Anyway nice idea and cute animations.
Neat idea. Could be nicer with some sort of time limit, and with not-so-impossible sizes at the end ;) If the player was forced to be quick, I think even relatively large squares could be mixed up in a panic.
Pretty addictive :D
Nice game, definately fits with the theme. Music and visuals were good too.
Pretty fun (while it lasts). I like the feel of the game, the graphics, music and color pallete work nicely together. Good job :)
Great mood, the ending made me go awww :)
Pretty neat. The art is nice, especially the little details like vines. I also like the music, very atmospheric. Thanks for making Jaws btw :)
One of the best uses of theme I have seen so far. Nice visuals and cute character :)
Love the mood. Lots of nice little details (both graphics and descriptions).
Woah, this game is brutal! I died a lot but made it in the end. Nice idea with the fires. Love the voices and the psychedelic laser effects :)
Nice art style and mood. Interesting gameplay ideas. Not sure if the 10s phases work all that well with this game, sometimes it felt like the time was up just when I started doing something cool.
Very fun! Landing on the new rocket is pretty challenging. Music adds to the excitement :)
Oh dear... that was interesting. The stat downgrading mechanic is kind of neat. Music is pretty catchy. Different characters would've made the awkward encounters more entertaining :P
Very, very challenging, infuriating even, but also rewarding (in the VVVVVV and Super Meat Boy way). Took me an embarrassingly long time to beat (last place on the board in fact ^^'), but I did it... Cheats a bit in the theme department, but still awesome.
@zedutchgandalf: The fishing rod actually helps out a lot... it's used for what fishing rods are normally used for ;)
Very good use of theme, simple but cute characters with adorable sounds :D
I liked the slowly progressing music :) Doesn't really fit the theme though.
Cool mechanic, and fun game overall, would be nice if you continued making it post-compo :) I found the time-shifting controls to be a little unintuitive, at least at the beginning. I think it would be better to have a stop/resume time button instead of the autoplay, because sometimes I hit the rewind button just to pause and think. Maybe R would be more intuitive for time reset, because a lot of games use R for retry/reset. And something like enter for the pause/play.
Very nice concept, the controlling of other characters reminded me a bit of Abe's Oddysee. I didn't read the text about the picklock prisoners properly and didn't figure out what they do, but I managed to beat the game anyway :P The overall mood is very nice and I liked the ending :)
Nice idea, though I mostly ended up clicking random moves. Maybe if the actions had icons it would be easier to keep track of what your opponent is doing and react.
The bird is great :) Mechanic is kind of interesting. Instructions should be within the game itself. I didn't read the readme at first and couldn't figure out what was going on.
Phenomenal gameplay and cool setting :)
Fun and addictive. Very challenging too, it's very easy to end up with not enough money/time/hp. Sometimes I used up almost all my time walking around without a battle, and other times I had one battle after another. But still I really like the concept of time as a resource instead of mana.
Quite long and frustratingly hard at times. Some puzzles required perfect timing. I would prefer to have a checkpoint after every room but maybe that would make death less meaningful. Anyway, very nice atmosphere. The audiovisual effects as the time runs make the game really intense.
Brilliant mood! And very scary enemies D:
Very frantic, exciting gameplay. The particles add to the general confusion, but they look great :) It's nice that the song lasts exactly 10 seconds, you can tell how much time you have left just by listening.
Quite addictive for such a simple game :) Almost did it on my second try, then I started sucking again... but I beat it in the end.
Very fun, silly gameplay :D Makes me want to make something with box2d too, maybe next time :) Countdown sound goes well with the general wackiness. A little challenging but not too much, I think the difficulty was just right for a short LD game.
Looks and feels great. Very nice animations and controls. The time circle mechanic was interesting. Would be awesome with some music and sound :)
Some very interesting ideas. The tool switching was cool but it was a bit annoying to have to go back where you left a tool to change to it.
Interesting use of theme. Very nice sounds, especially the breathing.
Very nice art style. I like that the sound effects feel just as "tiny" as the graphics. Pretty addictive too.
The time! It's like rubber!
Great visual effects :)
Solid platformer. Very polished art (including animations), sound and gameplay. I liked how the skill-learning mechanism opened up new areas, which were previously inaccessible leading to non-linear map traversal. Climbing and double-jump made a great combination! Nice idea with the "reverse stairs". Althlough damn, that last one was hard (actually I had to pass it a few times because of my stupidity...).
Aesthetics are quite heavily influenced by Fez: the patterns, the colors, the chests... but it looks great nonetheless. Especially the character sprite. Adorable! ^^
I like the mood, feels trippy thanks to the minimal graphics and vivid colors, but most of all because of the audio. Great job on that! Not really sure how it fits the theme, I guess maybe the triangles going beneath the surface of the sieve?
Nice ansi graphics and interesting gameplay :) Though the white-on-yellow left punch text was really hard to read for me...
I liked the planet generation and explosion animation, planets sure take a while to blow up...
The drills are a bit too easy to operate: you can just set them all off at the beginning and forget about them. Could be more interesting if they required more maintenance, e.g. ETs trying to break them.
Frustratingly hard but really satisfying. Nice twists keep gameplay interesting. Visuals and sound are also very fitting. Quite impressive for 48h, well done :)
Checkpoint frequency is about right, but it needs a save function... I started playing late in the evening and had to quit early... Hopefully I'll come back and finish it.
Wow, that good ending took me a really long time to get. Somewhat chaotic but pretty fun :)
The concept and aesthetics are great! Controlling the ship is a little difficult. It would be nice if it was easier to stand still.
Great art and character designs. The plot is pretty much a collection of gags but there is some nice humor in there.
Sorry! I had a bug that prevented the game from ending. Should be fixed now.
I liked the emotion-reading element. I think it made following the dialogue and choice-making more engaging. Decent story and some nice unexpected humour :)
Great graphics and ambient music. Solid game system, some nice details like slowing down when carrying a lot of stuff. I was missing some animation/sound while being attacked though, I felt invinsible sometimes while I was actually dying :P
The music and visual effects set a nice mood. Some of the messages are more subtle and interesting than others, like the part where you have to stop grabbing the coin.
Short but quite fun. I liked the little background details, like the paintings, statues etc.
The final boss seems very easy, but takes so long to kill, you end up running out of hp... very sneaky :P
Cool gameplay concept along with some thought out levels :)
I also loved the camera visual effect. The graphics are minimal but perfectly balanced. Music is simple but sounds very nice.
Good job on the music and graphics :)
Interesting backstory and great audiovisuals. Nice touch with the music changing when above the water surface :)
The controls are a bit hard to get the hang of (though I think they feel better on a controller). Jumping is not very responsive, but I guess that's because of the bug you mentioned. On the plus side I really liked the enemy sprites, that's some nice style :)
Nice explosions and great song :) Gameplay is pretty solid too. It takes some skill to predict where the bomb will end up.
Oh the horror! I feel my sanity slipping away!
Also, strangely addictive. I wouldn't have figured out the one-shot-on-screen thing myself, seemed a bit unintuitive for torpedos to work like that, but it made the game interesting.
The control scheme is innovative, but hard to get the hang of. Great visual effect with the water! Could use some sound, though I know it's hard to find the time to get music in...
Great mechanic, and some nice tricky platform-placements. I found the "jumping through walls" parts a bit too frustrating though. I'm guessing some audio-visual feedback on the switch action could help. With a little polish this will be an awesome game!
Fantastic mood. Interesting combination of pixel and traditional graphics. Looks ands sounds great!
Gameplay above the surface feels more fun than below, but the recoil for movement mechanic is interesting. Needs some element to encourage switching between above/below.
Great commentary, makes you want to pass the level just to hear the next part. I also liked the background audio and general look and feel. Gameplay is very simple, but it doesn't get boring since the game is short.
Interesting idea. Gameplay is very simple yet very engaging. The background audio is also simple but effective (speed increasing when the situation gets dangerous, nice!)
Nice narrative :) Jumping mechanic was a little confusing as others have mentioned.
Nice graphics :) Seeing the other cars made me think it could be fun as a multiplayer game, though right now there isn't a huge motivation to be aggressive towards the others.
